[GENERAL]
Prerequisite: You must be at least 6th level.
Benefit: You can use any skill untrained, even those that normally require training.

I was hoping to cross-class those two ranks in Knowledge (Religion) without taking any other classes.

(I've a tedency to think I understand things I don't, and completely overlook even the simplest of facts and answers XD)

You don't need Jack of All Trades at all. You can always crossclass the skills you need to meet a requirement. The feat lets you use skills like UMD and Tumble, which normally require at least 1 rank to use at all.

JoAT doesn't have any effect on your skill ranks or skill cost. It only lets you make "trained only" skill checks when you don't have any ranks.

You don't need Jack of All Trades to do it, and Jack of All Trades won't help you do it. You can always put up to (Level+3)/2 ranks into a skill, so long as you spend the required skill points to do so.

Aww... so, basically, all I have to do is pop in those four points for the two ranks and he's all set, huh? XD

Apart from the Hide and feat requirements, then yes. The fact that Hide isn't a barbarian class skill means you can't enter blackguard until level 8.

The real question is why you'd want to. Blackguard is really, really bad.

You could always take Able Learner from Races of Destiny, it lets you take cross class skills at 1:1, but not take more than the normal amount of cross class skill points. As long as you're a human.

Is not!

.... yeah, yeah it is bad. Really, really bad. It would be much better suited by removing all the requirements and just making it a base class.

I actually hadn't planned on giving him Blackguard until 21 (tieing in with Dark Speech), going with 20 levels of Barbarian first; I just keep picturing him as eventually becoming this menacing, dark lord-type with a demonic edge to him. Blackguard just seemed appropriate, more for flavor than versitility (since even as a Blackguard I can't wait to give him those yummy Epic Rage feats ^_^, even though I'm not worried about additional rages/per day and DR)

Since you're planning on Bar20 before anything else, if you want that "dark" feeling, how about Warlock. Invocations are great.

... oh yes, first level invocations at 21st level are reeeally evocative of a "menacing dark lord"... :P

I don't see him as too big of a spell user, aside from a cure spell to get him by now and then, and I like Aure of Despair and Dark Blessing. Plus, he'd get a magical pony!

..warhorse. I mean't warhorse.

I'm pretty sure there's a way (though for the life of me I can't remember how) to get a Nightmare as a mount, which is far more fitting.

(though I still think the best is a Fiendish Winged Pyrohydra, but I'm not sure how many DMs would ever let someone have such a thing...)

Googled it, apparently it was a feat in an issue of Dungeon.

Oh come on. A mean, large, epic level barbarian, riding a magical pony... It's just perfect!
I can picture it now... 6 foot five half-orc barbarian complete with greataxe and many - many scars. on this pony:

Perfect match!

You know, I would actually be MORE afraid of a barbarian riding that than I would one riding a Nightmare.

Maybe Able Learner will help you? You'll pay only 1 point per rank even on cross-class skills, but you're still limited by the [(level+3)/2] maximum rank points.

I think it's in Complete Adventurer or Races of the Wild

Don't forget, the greataxe would be on fire (I don't know why, it just looks cool). And the armor would have to be black and spiked.

Actually don't take jack of all trades under any circumstance...and for a barbarian, why not take weapon master (with great axe/sword) instead of blackguard?

Which book is that in? I'm limited to the Core Books, Complete Mage, Complete Adventurer, Complete Scoundrel, Complete Divine, and BOVD for my classes.

Weapon Master sounds nice, since one of his beginning feats was Exotic Weapon Proficiency for Bastard Sword, although because of how I planned him out the feats so far were going to be: Lv1 (Exotic Weapon Proficiency/Endurance), Lv3 (Diehard), Lv6 (Power Attack), Lv9 (Cleave), Lv12 (Great Cleave), Lv15 (Quick Draw), Lv18 (Improved Sunder). Certainly not the best set up, I'm sure, so as a warrior he's quite the late bloomer (but atleast he's only at Lv2, so there's still time to change things around). Looking back now, I probably should've started with Power Attack/Cleave. Sigh... >.<

(I'm starting to think this thread should be moved to the optimization section)

If you're set on Bastard Sword, splash in one level of Exotic Weapon Master (Complete Warrior, shouldn't be an issue if you have access to Adventurer and Divine already) and take the ability that allows you to add *2 Str (rather than *1.5) to your damage when you wield your one-handed exotic weapon in two hands. As a barbarian, that will add up to a significant damage increase, particularly at higher levels.

The prereqs are relatively easy. Exotic Weapon Proficiency, Weapon Focus (same weapon), and a few ranks (3, I believe) in Craft (Weaponsmithing), along with BAB +6

Ooh, I could do that. Heck, the way I had him planned if he could eventually grab a +12 Belt of Epic Strength or Bracers of Relentless Might, he'd have a 50 Str when raging; and I think one of the players does have the Complete Warrior. Yay, 40 Str bonus to damage. ^_^
