yet another power attack question. [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-08-07, 11:34 AM Now I may just be a newb, but when a player asked if the base attack penalty form power attack stacked with the one he took for combat expertise, I didn't know the answer.

EX: Dave the level 6 fighter is kinda a cautious guy, so almost always takes a -5 to his BAB. One day, his friend the door made him quite upset, in the normal fighter fashion, Dave manifested his anger in the form of violence. Now, Daves not so bright, so when he power attacked to overcome the doors hardness (at a -5), he was still fighting defensively (at a -5).

Does Dave have a -5 to BAB, or a -10?

PS. sorry for the dumb example and newbish question, but I am trying to entertain myself with this post (and failing)

03-08-07, 11:48 AM That's right, they do stack. Dave has -10 to hit against the door.
By the way, that's more or less the situation in which you would use both expertise and power attack: assaulted by an horde of enemies, while you destroy the cell bars/ temple altar/ world shattering gnomish contraption/ princess bound on that temple altar (:eek: )
