A variety of beings, ranging in profession and race, walk the streets, work the forges, cook the meals, build the structures, and generally run the city. While being more Human-dominated, Aervenia is relatively diverse in cultures and backgrounds, and its capital city is a sure representation of that. While not everyone can enjoy the priviledge of wealth, almost any poor citizen you pass on the street will expound to you the greatness of their rulers and the kindness of the king. An ever proud and patriotic people since its separation from Tyranor, the kings of Aervenia have ruled peacefully for more than 600 years. |

| Dyne02-17-07, 01:34 AM | Okay, that should be enough posts reserved. I'll try to edit in the rest of everything tomorrow. Feel free to begin posting and roleplaying. The Founder's Festival celebrations will begin shortly. |
| Dyne02-17-07, 01:48 AM | Founder's Festival It is the time of year when the people of Aervenia celebrate the founding of their great kingdom and the rulership of their kings. A two week long celebration, the Founder's Festival is a kingdom-wide event that features many competitions, parties, and other sources of entertainment. A special celebration, limited to special guests and nobility, is taking place in the castle courtyard. Each of the heroes and antagonists will be attending this celebration, enjoying the refreshments and special events provided (and possibly further their own secret agendas). As you approach the castle gates, a well-dressed man waits outside. "I must see your invitation, please." |
| Demonfey02-17-07, 01:38 PM | A half elf in nice clothes walks up to the man and presents an invitation. It's legit. "Everything checks out, mister..." "Marxis." Marxis then heads in, and begins taking note of the people. |
| CaptainShar02-17-07, 03:54 PM | A very small halfling walks up to the palace, eyeing it and the man warily. Did I really get invited to this? He asks the man, gingerly displaying the invitation with the royal seal. As he walks through the gate, his reluctance is overcome by curiosity at all the wealth and pomp displayed before him. He walks toward one of the refreshment tables, but then sees that it is loaded with fresh fruit arrangements. He turns away to a sweetmeats table instead and starts picking at the food, looking at all the rich people here. I look pretty much like this, but with leather instead of chain. http://www.ravenmimura.com/images/full/Swordsman.jpg |
| turalisj02-17-07, 04:45 PM | Shrean flashed his invitation, hurrying past the guard as if the guard was diseased. He went almost straight towards the wine section, pouring himself a large glass of fine wine. |
| Wilds02-17-07, 04:52 PM | Alth shows the guard the invitation. Smaller then the guard, the invitation is held above his head in an attempt to let the human guard read it easily. After a nod from the guard Alth walks into the courtyard. Looking around he wanders off to take part in the beverages and look over the people there. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-17-07, 11:22 PM | A man, carrying himself with a noble stride approaches the gates. He wears blue leather leggins and sleeves. A white breastplate covering his chest over the leather along with a pair of white bracers. A rapier with a blue and gold pommel rests at his hip and the symbol of Bristol resides in the center of his breastplate. Handing his invitation to the guard the man bows with a flourish and makes his way inside. Once inside, he approaches the refreshments table and leans against the wall nearby to watch the others. |
| Zombomaniac02-17-07, 11:40 PM | Striding in from the wilderness a woman walks up to the gaurds. She is dressed as one who never leaves the forests, in well worn natural colored green leather, and she bares her short spears and bow openly. As well hanging from her neck is a disk dipcting a wolf at the base of a tree. Handing the invitation to the guards she warns him. "Return to the trees soon, sir, lest you be eaten by the wolf." Once the invitation is check she walks through the gate with open hate on her face. |
| CaptainShar02-18-07, 12:19 AM | Beauregard notices the wolfish woman scowling and walks up to her. I take it you're not used to these surroundings either. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do. He looks around awkwardly, then again seeks comfort in the only other person who seems terribly out of place. I'm Beauregard Sweetwater. He bows deeply. |
| Zombomaniac02-18-07, 12:37 AM | Brae returns the bow and seems in a lighter mood to have found someone who dislikes the civilized taint of this meeting. "I am Brae Moonwrath, Druid. Like you, dear sir, I do not find this...city very comfortable." Brae looks around seeking others who, like them, look to dislike their surroundings. "Tell me, sir, what do you think the point of the gathering is?" |
| CaptainShar02-18-07, 12:56 AM | Well, I've heard of it every year, but I've never been invited. I'm guessing it was some kind of mix-up. But free food is free food, and I was curious to see what the uppities are like in their own environment. I guess they can be friendly with other people after all, as long as those people have money. This is a yearly celebration of the founding of Bristol. It also happens to be the anniversary of the day Bristol ruined my family. Beauregard grimaces. |
| Zombomaniac02-18-07, 01:10 AM | Brae looks directly to Beauregard as he mentions his family and with a steely look void any pity she places her hand on his shoulder. "Beauregard...worry not for the loses of the past, they are meaningless. It is the now and tomorrow you must focus on, but do not forget how this vile city has wronged you. Take your revenge on it whenever you can." Brae looks back out to the party with hate in her eyes. "You say this is a celebration of the cities founding? Disgusting! Truely this day must be cursed." (Nice RP Captian, but unfortunetly I am going to sleep now since I got work in the 'morrow. G'Night!) |
| CaptainShar02-18-07, 01:34 AM | The past also has hope... Reg whispers, turning away from the suddenly cold woman. He sighs and walks to the drinks table. 'night, Zombo. The nickname was going to be Beau, but I think Reg will make the Brae/Beau thing a lot less confusing. I hope no one has a name similar to Reg... |
| Dyne02-19-07, 05:23 PM | Each guest is approved with a nod, and the man in fine clothing beckons them inside. He seems put off and confused at the comment from the wild woman, but he lets her inside anyway. Though many of the individuals at this party don fancy clothing and are clearly of the upper class, this is not true of everyone. A few characters with weapons and armor are also present, and judging from their gear they seem to be adventurers. They must have been invited as the special guests of noble patrons. The courtyard is arrayed with decorations and filled with tables and chair. One area has tables filled with food and drink, and waiters and waitresses deliver the delicacies to their masters and mistresses on silver platter. In the middle of it all stands a wooden platform, a stage constructed just for this event. An agreeable and well-dressed man stands atop it, welcoming the guests. "I welcome you all to the 611th Annual Founder's Festival celebrations, presented to you by the kindness of the king himself. Once all guests have arrived, the festival can officially begin. Until then, enjoy yourselves with fine food and drink." |
| Wilds02-19-07, 05:29 PM | Patyr wanders around the gathering casually noting who has weapons, who doesn't, what valuables if any they might be carrying. He keeps to him self, noting the conversation between the wild woman and the other figure (not sure what form captain's char is in). |
| turalisj02-19-07, 05:29 PM | Shrean walked over to one of the guards and asked, Who's the old man? |
| CaptainShar02-19-07, 05:32 PM | After taking a glass or two of wine, Reg hops up onto the table, hands on his hips. He bows to the assorted folk before him. He glances out of the corner of his eye to see if any guards react to this. |
| Dyne02-19-07, 05:32 PM | The guard gives a confused look at Shrean. "I do not know what old man you are referring to. Now, if you will excuse me, I do not have time to chat with patrons." With that he walks off, continuing his patrol. The guards do not give any special reaction to Beauregard, though he does notice they have been watching him closely since he arrived. The other adventurers present seem to be under similar scrutiny. |
| Demonfey02-19-07, 06:03 PM | Noting the crazy druid lady, Marxis makes his way over to her. He then stands next to her. "So. I've heard that the city guards are very watchful around here." (ihh:pleasenotherpleasenotherpleasenothe r...) |
| CaptainShar02-19-07, 06:28 PM | Reg calls out loudly: Here's to the Fouder's Festival. Fine wines, pretty girls, loads of fresh fruit, fancy nobles, cunning servants, and watchful guards! Thinking he's attracted enough attention, Reg jumps down again and says, in a normal voice and to the group around the drinks table, The girls are pretty, ain't they? He chuckles as if two glasses is quite enough for a halfling that small, and winks at a serving girl. Too bad the guards are watchful. |
| turalisj02-19-07, 06:30 PM | Shrean nodded. Aye, the guards watch. But can they see what cannot be seen? |
| CaptainShar02-19-07, 06:51 PM | Now there's a good question! He pours himself another drink and tosses it down. But I can see the pretty Missy here thinks I shouldn't have more tallfolk drinks. Shall we go away over there so she can't see me with a fourth? Reg grabs an entire bottle of the wine and loops his arm through the elf's, pulling him to the far side of the courtyard. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-19-07, 10:27 PM | The armored man standing against the wall smirks at the most recent comment from Shrean. He leans forward a bit and approaches the drinks table more closely, taking a glass for himself. With well-kept ear-length blonde hair and blue eyes, Sireon is a fairly handsome man, wearing fine and well designed armor. He smiles at the group around the table, the ones left after the halfling has pulled Shrean away. "Surely not all here are so... eager to test the fine and quite skilled guards of the kingdom. Such comments are not well accepted by those who defend the people you know. It is insulting, truely, to be taunted in one's own halls, and these knights I assure you will be more than enough to handle 'what cannot be seen.' So there is nothing to worry about should one of our fellow guests grow a bit... grabby for that which is not theirs." With a smile and a slight bow the man waves his cape about."Ah but where are my manners? Greetings to you all, I am Sireon Licarnus. Swordsman and soon enough, Knight of the crown." |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-19-07, 10:51 PM | A man clad in black robes with long pale blonde hair and pale white skin enters the room, tossing his invitation to the guard at the door without slowing down. He rushes over to the table and grabs a bottle, downing half of it in a single gulp. He spins around on his heel and looks at the other people in the room. Tossing a small amount of black powder into the sky and snapping his fingers, a bright blast of light flashes and a low bang echoes. The man cackles and grins, leaning against a pillar and drinking from his bottle. "I love a good entrance." |
| Wilds02-19-07, 11:54 PM | Walking over to the wild druid. "Yes they are." Turning to the druid, "try not to attract to much attention to your self, you might not like the result." |
| CaptainShar02-20-07, 12:03 AM | LOL! I'm not the druid. The "wild woman" and the "druid" are the same person. Didn't you see the purty picture of me near the beginning of the thread? Anyway, I'm a (male) halfling with a rapier. The halfling whirls around and his mouth twitches the tiniest bit into a smile at someone else who's his size. Ah, thanks for the warning. But I've been living on the edge of causing too much trouble all my life; I think I've found the appropriate balance by now. So what brings you here? Reg smiles and gives him a pointed look. |
| NightScreamer2002-20-07, 02:16 AM | The young male human, dressed in garbs fit for a man-on-the-road, his shirt grey cotton, with a brown leather jacket and matching boots and gloves. A broad chain hold up his heavily patched pants and secures his many pouches and a rope with his wrapped around his body as if a vest, holding his backpack in place. He removes his loose leather cap and pulls out the invitation from inside. With a broad smile and sweeps the hat back onto his head bows respectively to the guard as he hands it over. He has no issue revealing his scarred face and crooked mustache, which match with his curly, but combed back, brown hair. As the guard allows him in he nods and looks around adjusting his "belt" and making his way towards the drink. Time to do some scouting |
| Zombomaniac02-20-07, 09:18 AM | Brae notices the newcomer with the out-door-sy appearance and wonders over to him, first grabbing a bottle of wine (she hopes is Elven). Upon hearing his statement of "scouting" she takes him as some breed of woodsman. "Sorry to say, woodsman, but scouting will be difficult with the gaurds as watchful as they are. Here." Brae hands him the bottle of wine she procured. "Give them some of that. Enough of it and the gaurds will stop watching us and start watching the inside of their eye lids." |
| NightScreamer2002-21-07, 12:43 AM | Raising a crooked eyebrow he looks at the lady who came over to him. Holding his hand up he politely denies her offer. I apologize miss, but, it all 'epends on what you're scoutin' for ya see. Now if you believe I may be a brigan' and am scoutin' for a pocket to pick, you will be happily mistaken. No, no, I am no thief or scoundrel by trade, but forgive me that I do not drink with ya. One has to keep 'is wits about 'im in a place like this don-cha-know. With a keen smile he leans against the bar and turns his eyes skimming the crowd for other faces that fancy his natural curiosities. However he continues to speak directly to her. Aye, what a gal like you being so far from yer grove? Must be something exceptional. |
| Wilds02-21-07, 01:10 AM | Alth scuttles off in embarrassment. Worse yet, he did it too him self..... He lurks on the outside of the crowd waiting for something interesting to happen. |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-21-07, 01:29 AM | The albino man in black walks over to the elf woman and swings an arm around her. A distinct smell of smoke and sulfer about him as well as other powders and liquids one might expect in an alchemist's lab. He looks the woman over and nods approvingly, taking a swig from the bottle in his other hand. "So... what brings a girl like you to a place like this. Its me isn't it? You saw me and just couldn't resist a chance to speak to me. I knew it. Theres no need to hide it. But we should go somewhere else, as you all keep saying these guards are too watchful for my taste. A man can't get away with anything fun here. Ah well. Who wants to play some drinking games?" |
| Sssargoth02-21-07, 02:07 AM | A young-looking human wanders up to the front gate and presents his invitation to the guard. Any one that glances at him notice that his red hair appears to be greying prematurely and that he is dressed plainly, possibly to not draw much attention to himself. Anybody giving him more than that cursory glance will notice that the "grey" in his hair is actually a similar shade of silver as the scales of a silver dragon. They also notice that his eyes have a similar silver color to them. After being let in, he takes a look around to see if there is anyone interesting here. Upon noticing the elf with the tatoo, he glares. "Damn. One of them has been invited too... Things could get very interesting here. |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 01:35 PM | To the tattooed elf: He scuttled off awful quick, as if he was afraid of something. But he, ah, did seem to know what he was talking about, same as you back there. It's odd, the impressions you get about people. You know, I have this funny feeling you brought me a present, even though we've never met before. Something a little spicier than this to drink, maybe? |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 01:44 PM | Ignored by the druid lady, Marxis decides that he should just sit back, drink a bit, and listen to what people were talking about. (Gather Information from comments around him, total 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885069)) |
| NightScreamer2002-21-07, 02:06 PM | Ignored by the druid lady, Marxis decides that he should just sit back, drink a bit, and listen to what people were talking about. (Gather Information from comments around him, total 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885069)) Just mentioning, you know thats going to take up to 2-5 hours right...? Taking a look around, his eyes on bodies and his ears taking in the very essence of the room... He wonders who here is worth trusting and who here in this room is a cheat, a liar, and a scoundrel. So attuned to this, it takes him only a moment... Sense Motive for a Hunch of the people in the room 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885080). |
| Wilds02-21-07, 02:08 PM | Alth wanders over to Marxis. "Interesting stuff isnt it? All politics and crap." |
| turalisj02-21-07, 04:50 PM | To the tattooed elf: He scuttled off awful quick, as if he was afraid of something. But he, ah, did seem to know what he was talking about, same as you back there. It's odd, the impressions you get about people. You know, I have this funny feeling you brought me a present, even though we've never met before. Something a little spicier than this to drink, maybe? Shrean raised a bottle with a smile on his face. He took a deep drink from it, then opened his mouth to the sky and let out a line of flame. Personaly, I prefer the elven wines they serve back at home. Did you happen to find the contact yet? He added the last part quietly. |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 06:43 PM | Also quietly: It's not you? You gave the response. Hmm. I think almost everyone here heard me earlier, but maybe our contact ain't too bright. Louder: So let's mingle a bit, shall we? Introduce ourselves personally to all these lovely folks. Name's Beauregard, by the way. What's yours? Reg winks and walks back into the crowd. |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 06:48 PM | @Nightscreamer: The other way wasn't working too well for me, so I just decided to use plan B, which takes more time. Also, bluff of 16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885395) versus your sense motive, I'll let Dyne decide what you glean from it. Alth wanders over to Marxis. "Interesting stuff isnt it? All politics and crap." "Yeah. Though I wonder why the lady over there-" Points out Zombo's character "-decided to come. Doesn't seem like she likes it here too much." |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 07:28 PM | To the gnome: Hi there, I wondered why you ran off so soon earlier. You seemed to have something to say about the guards, or was it the city watch? Anyway, I've lived here a while, and I may be able to help you out. My name's Beauregard, by the way. And you and your friend here? 4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885464) Bluff vs. Nightscreamer's Sense Motive. Gotta love rolling a 1! |
| Wilds02-21-07, 07:37 PM | @ demonfey's char No it does not look like she likes it here. Strange, that is highly unexpected. @ captain's char Turning to demonfey's char "We just met actually, and nice to meet you. I am still new to this place and am just getting adjusted to it." Hmm a 3 Bluff (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885484), go no cha bonus |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 08:04 PM | "Name's Marxis. Pleasure to meet you, Beuregard, and gnome who hasn't introduced himself." |
| turalisj02-21-07, 08:33 PM | @ demonfey's char No it does not look like she likes it here. Strange, that is highly unexpected. @ captain's char Turning to demonfey's char "We just met actually, and nice to meet you. I am still new to this place and am just getting adjusted to it." Hmm a 3 Bluff (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885484), go no cha bonus ooc: This is going to be funny. I rolled a 20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885529) for bluff, and an 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885532) for sense motive. Well, I happen to be born from elven nobility, and I traveled here with a massive caravan. Unfortunatly, most of them got wiped out before we got here. Shrean sad to Alth. He laughed quietly to himself. |
| Zombomaniac02-21-07, 09:05 PM | Brae seems to come to her self after seeming to stare at nothing for a time. She takes in a look around the room and quickly sees Beauregard and the others grouping together. Wodering over, and not even realizing the albino man in black had said anything to her, she sees Marxis. "Forgive me, sir, but I just realized you had said something to me earlier and I seemed to have lost attention in what was around me. Was it anything important?" Bluff 20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885567) |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 09:07 PM | "Not really, miss?" |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 09:18 PM | So, ah, anybody know what the schedule of events is for this festival? I heard there's going to be a feast of particular importance the last day. Reg puts his hand to his rapier hilt for just a moment. |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 09:23 PM | "You know, I'd heard the exact same thing..." |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 09:33 PM | Quietly: Brae, Gnome, you in the "Watchful Guards" club? Just want to make sure we're all getting along here. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-21-07, 10:22 PM | Sireon watches the other people with a raised eyebrow as he is ignored. He keeps his eyes on the rude individuals who seem to make quite a show of speaking on the topic of the guard's watchfulness. As they all begin to gather together and speak in hushed tones Sireon makes a thoughtful noise. Approaching the group with a smile Sireon bows with an elaborate fllourish. Straightening and adjusting his breastplate. "Lady and gentlemen, no need to speak so quietly, we are all friends here. Come, join the others, there is much celebrating to be done on such a glorious day. If we do not celebrate the founding of this wondrous city, then we should be ashamed! For it provides a place for our homes and jobs, a place for our loved ones to live, and a place for our people to grow strong! Come, won't you have a bite with me, I'm sure there are some interesting topics for us to speak on." |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 10:30 PM | "And you, my good man, are?" |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 10:32 PM | Nice to meet you! The name's Reg. As you can probably guess by my outfit... He looks down at the plain brown work clothes. ...I'm not used to these kinds of shindigs. If you can introduce me to anyone here, I'd be grateful. And I agree with you about the city. It's certainly provided a permanent home for my family! On the last line, Reg's tone seems just a tad sarcastic. |
| Wilds02-21-07, 10:36 PM | I'm Alth quietly to the halfling "No...I am interested in learning about it though." |
| Zombomaniac02-21-07, 10:41 PM | "And what topic are there to talk about, O' Great Sir?" The last few words come out of Brae's mouth sounding as if they were poison to her. |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 10:44 PM | Stepping in between the knight and the druid and draping an arm around both their necks, Marxis asks them both "Before we begin getting along so well, maybe we should have some introductions, hm?" *italics means sarcasm. Diplomacy: 19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885867). |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 10:55 PM | Reg nods in relief. He seems to have enough self-presence to take care of himself, but was getting a little worried about the others. 20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885868) on his own Diplomacy check. Willing to count this as "aid another" on Marxis's next check in this situation, if applicable. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-21-07, 11:28 PM | Sireon smiles warmly at the woman and bows a bit, slipping away from the other man's arm. He clears his throat and nods to each of the others individually. "I, as I had said before, am Sireon Licarnus. Expert swordsman and soon enough, Knight of Bristol. As for a topic my overly sarcastic tree friend, perhaps what brings those who so obviously have a distaste for this celebration to it's center? Or perhaps, we could speak about whatever it is you were talking about so quietly. Whatever you would like to speak about I should say would be well enough. Though I would prefer that we keep to plesant things, as this is a day I would like to be... well, plesant!" ((To note, Diplomacy can never be used to influence the attitude of a PC, to do that you need to use words.)) |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-21-07, 11:32 PM | The albino man walks up un-invited to the gathering and smiles. He throws his arm around the woman's waist and whistles innocently. Glancing about quickly, being rather obvious about it, he pinches her on the backend then quickly scurries to the other side of the Knight. "Hi there folks, names Richard. Some people call me Richard the destroyer, Richard the Exploder, Richard the AAAAUUUUGGGGHHH, they never really say that one quite the same. How is everyone, good? I do hope you are alll good. It would be bad if you were bad but oh well, some things happen that way. You know, I think she wants me, shes been hitting on me all night." |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 11:39 PM | Marxis quickly backs away from the probable zone of albino punching. The man brought it upon himself. Should be entertaining, at any rate. (I did use words. Wouldn't diplomacy be to see if those words had the desired impact?) |
| CaptainShar02-21-07, 11:42 PM | How about Richard the Rude? Or Richard the Bad? Holding a whispered conversation in the middle of a party might be, say, a 2. Making unsolicited advances towards a lady I think merits a 10, on the scale of rudeness and badness. Turning to Sireon, Reg says, We were just talking about how we're looking forward to the big finale on the last day. I take it you've lived in Bristol a while, sir? You seem to have a fondness for it. Alas, most of these here are newcomers, so please forgive their unfamiliarity with the customs here. Reg was using body language to communicate his approval of "people getting along-ness." Nothin' too serious. |
| Demonfey02-21-07, 11:47 PM | Marxis turns to Sireon "Greetings, my name's Marxis. Now, you miiiight want to move and give the lady a clear shot." (Yes, the extra i's were on purpose) |
| Zombomaniac02-21-07, 11:59 PM | Brae sees the peaceful body language of her new Halfling friend, Reg, and shows surprising self control by not drawing her short spear on the spot, though you can tell she would love nothing more then to do so. “Richard you said your name was? Well, I will be honest with you mage I have never known you existed before this moment and I would gladly sell my soul if it meant not ever knowing you existed. The very idea of mating with you sickens me! You are weak, loathsome, rude, and stink of the taint of civilization. If ever you touch me again I will see to it that you eat you genitalia and if ever I see you in the wilds I shall feed you to the wolves.” (Red=barely controlled murderous rage ) |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 12:06 AM | "Sell your soul eh? Well, I think I have a spell somewhere that might take care of that, I'll just need to get a contract written up and then you can go ahead and sign your soul over to me. Shouldn't be too hard. But then again I wouldn't be able to get away with things I should be getting away with, what with all these nice people here. Ah well. But my dear, feeding me to wolves and making me eat my own anatomy would prove QUITE difficult what with us being in the middle of a heavily guarded courtyard and my own special powers of might and mayham. But enough of that. I like your style my dear, what would your name be if you would be so kind as to grace my genetalia with it before you make an attempt to rip the family apart?" |
| Demonfey02-22-07, 12:07 AM | Listening to the speech from Brae, Marxis just stares, then comments "...gotta remember not to get you angry at me. Now, madam, if you would be so kind as to share your name with us, please?" |
| Zombomaniac02-22-07, 12:30 AM | (OOC: We're level 1 and your a mage. How much HP do you have? 4?) "Brae Moonwrath that that name with you TO HELL!" Standard action to draw short spear. Roll for intitive Skull. Init: 20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885973) |
| Demonfey02-22-07, 12:37 AM | "Please, Lady Moonwrath, is this drunken cur really worth bringing the wrath of the guards upon yourself?" Diplomacy: 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=885974) (Might not actually affect anything, but it can't hurt) |
| Zombomaniac02-22-07, 12:45 AM | Brae pauses at the mention of the guards. Speaking mostly to her self. "The guards....yes. That will be perfect." Brae puts her spear away and takes a deep breath and yells at the top of her lungs. "Guards!" |
| CaptainShar02-22-07, 12:45 AM | Speaking of the guards... Reg calls loudly: Ho there, guards! This contemptible fellow has been making advances on the lady here, and is probably drunk. Please remove him from the premises. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-22-07, 12:59 AM | Having remained silent so far Sireon clears his throat and holds his hand up. "While I agree that this man's actions are reprehensible, and should not be allowed. Nor will they be allowed to continue..." Sireon glares at Richard and rests his hand on the hilt of his rapier. "I can also not abide by the threats on the man's life in the middle of this celebration. Madame, if you reach for your weapon again I shall run you through before you have a chance to use it. While you may not follow, or even know any laws, here we have them. Now calm yourself, this fellow will not be laying his hands on you again. Nor will you be removing any of his anatomy to feed to your forest creatures." |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 01:06 AM | "Yes! Let us speak with the guards." Richard clears his throat and waves toward the guards that are across the room. "Oh gentlemen, may I speak to you quickly? This crazy woman here has drawn her weapon and threatened to remove my gentials and feed them to her family. I must say shes very violent and most likely insane. Please, come and assist me before this violent witch attempts to run me through!" Richard slips behind the knight and smiles over the man's shoulder. "Ah perhaps I went a bit too far, but who can resist when someone looks so uncomfortable and angry about being invited to one of the biggest celebrations of the year? Really, one wonders why shes come and has such interest in the watchfulness of the guards." |
| NightScreamer2002-22-07, 03:14 AM | Smirking he glances at the folk. Listening in on their conversations and the like. To his heart's content he is minded on whom he should keep his words to, and with that he leaves the bar and goes to mingle. Feeling the urge to eat he wanders over to the food, stepping besides the man in the armor and glances a few times. Murmuring before turning to face something other than his sandwich "Good to see we have a swordhand here... even better... one that is worth the time to trust..." And with that he rips into his sandwich, chews, smiles broadly and scoops up the man's hand heartily. Thats the idea chaps! Now to fill our gullets to the brink of explosion! Name's Arthur by the way, Arthur Blackenfond! This is all in a manner that screams 'Change of subject!' as to try to calm the whole courtyard from an uproar. BTW for the above: No one here thinks I'm a changeling nor has the vaguist idea I might be a changeling, being that we're all total strangers, and I haven't taken "Changeling" form in over 8 years, having spent my lifetime forming and perfecting multiple personas on my own... |
| Demonfey02-22-07, 04:06 AM | "Easy, could be Lady Moonwrath's giving a new thing a try. New things can cause discomfort and anger, after all. But anyway, why don't we follow this bloke's lead-Arthur, right?-and eat, drink, and become at least a little merrier?" |
| Zombomaniac02-22-07, 11:43 AM | "Quite true Marxis. I have never liked being in the city and this is the first time I have ever been to this celebration. A fellow I know to respect nature brought me this invitation and said it would prove beneficiary to me and nature. I was hesitant and was right to be! I come here and do nothing to anger or insult anyone and then this mage insults my dignity and thinks that simply because I am also here and that he can cast a few cantrips that I will bed with him! I have never been so insulted in my life!” Brae looks to the nearest gaurds. “I demand he be removed!” |
| CaptainShar02-22-07, 11:49 AM | Reg goes toward a small-sized table and gets himself a plate and a biscuit and a chicken leg. Hello, Arthur - and where might you be from? |
| Wilds02-22-07, 01:24 PM | Takes a step back. "Wow this got crazy fast" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-22-07, 02:08 PM | "Madame, I feel I must inform you before you start demanding things from the guards that, though his actions are... rude and foolish. He has broken no laws of the land to my knowledge. Where you have drawn your weapon and threatened murder. I assure you that he will do nothing of the sort again, now please calm yourself." Keeping himself between the woman and the albino man Sireon speaks with obvious irritation at the continuing conflict. He pushes the mage away with one hand, keeping the other up infront of the woman, but not too far from his rapier. |
| CaptainShar02-22-07, 02:26 PM | Reg pipes up: I seem to recall "disorderly conduct" being a good way to get oneself arrested. He turns quickly back to his chicken, eating it serenely. |
| Demonfey02-22-07, 02:29 PM | Noting the fighter's movements "Brae, it might be for the best to just walk away for a bit. Calm down, get a little fresh air, possibly smack a wall a few times. And if you still feel like murdering the guy, then he'll at least have a head start so he'd have a sporting chance. In the meantime..." *Casts presdigititation, makes Richard look like he wet himself, as well as makes his booze taste like raw sewage* "No one says you can't exact revenge through funnier means." |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 02:29 PM | "Well I don't recall saying anything about bedding you, but if you'd like I'm sure we can arrange something of the sort. Maybe a nice bed of leaves, make you feel more at home rolling around on a forest bed. But I'm not going to be doing anything in a tree, you may like 'hugging' trees but I don't. Dignity however, I'm not so sure you had any with the way you came in here with threats and loud noises and all sorts of angry anti-guard commentary. Why, if I didn't know any better I'd say you were some sort of anti-government individual, which would make sense with your incredible hate of the city. Why, you wouldn't happen to be here trying to say... infiltrate the party, do some terrorist activity and whatnot would you? Why, I bet you are! What did you have planned, feeding genetalia to your distrubing wolves that for some reason seem to like genetalia for dinner? Perhaps you are planning on planting trees to overrun the city! Is that it? Did you bring some of your bedfellow trees here to get a little freaky in the city huh? Well we'll just see about that won't we?" Richard hums a tune as he reaches into his bag and pulls out a round, hard leather sphere. He places a stick in his mouth and tosses the sphere up, catching it when it comes back down. "Anybody want to play a game? A game other than calm the raging tree hugger." Without pausing in his speaking Richard snaps his fingers and cleans his (most likely un-noticed them being black) soiled robes. |
| CaptainShar02-22-07, 02:36 PM | Go ahead and explain it. If I like the new game, it may just make up for that bad first impression. Reg looks curiously at the ball and stick. |
| Wilds02-22-07, 02:59 PM | "Game? May I play?" |
| Zombomaniac02-22-07, 06:19 PM | (OOC: I'll be frank this whole experiacne with Richard is just so stupid I dont even want to make a post about how Brae hits Richard in the face and leaves. So everyone just assume this post was some RP post about her calling Richard a Whor*sone and then walking away. @Skull Nice RP but Brae will have to kill your PC sooner or later. No hard feeling?:P ) (Also she will be walking around making idel convesation about watchful gaurds, trees, whor*son mages (:P ), etc.) |
| Demonfey02-22-07, 06:32 PM | After that last bit, Marxis watches Brae leave. "If you'll excuse me, I believe I'm going to stick by her. Someone has to try and talk her out of punching any more of the guests, after all.";) And with that, he's off after Brae. When he gets alongside her "Madam Moonwrath, if I may have a moment of your time, may I please speak with you in private?" |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 06:38 PM | (Since Zombo doesn't want to make the post, or roll for it :P, I shall do the following!) Richard stumbles away from the punch, possibly due to the Knight standing infront of him. He laughs and holds his leather ball infront of him as if to throw it then stops. Turning toward the guards he whistles to get their attention and calls out. "Oh yoo-hoo, guards, this woman has attempted to assault me! I should say that she should be arrested at once! Perhaps a night in the jail will do her some good and teach her not to attack people. Savages, you can just never teach them a lesson without a whip and club! Go on, shoo wolf girl, go find the nice guardsmen and get tossed in a hole." ((Its not stupid, its fun. At least for me. Pfft, just abandoning RP! Bah I says to you! Also, you'll need some luck killing me, I'm a crafty one I am!)) |
| turalisj02-22-07, 07:02 PM | And, of course, you have shown what pigs humans can be. She may have been removed from civilization, however she wields the power of nature. Think of this, human, in a few decades when you are sitting in your home, old and unable to properly swing a blade, she will be able to summon forth every denzien of the forest at a whim. the was a strange fire in Shreans eyes as he speaks. A bit of smoke was beginning to rise from his mouth aswell, as if there was some cauldron of flames inside of him. Now, human, perhaps acting with some chivoulry would be appropriate? Or is trying to force yourself on a women a humans way of introducing themselves? |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-22-07, 07:23 PM | With a gracefulness and quickness, Sireon draws his rapier and points the tip toward the elf's throat. Clearing his own throat and speaking in the language of the elves Sireon appoligizes. "I am sorry sir, but I have seen your fire breath demonstrated already. As it seems you wish to use it once more, I must insist that you stop. Otherwise, we will see how well it works with my rapier in your throat." Turning his head toward the others and changing to common. "I believe there has been quite enough threats and taunts here. I suggest, that either we all act civil toward one another, or we part ways. Are there any objections?" |
| turalisj02-22-07, 07:46 PM | Shrean did not speak to the knight, but backed away and turned around. He faced towards the councilers. Is this how your so called knightstreat those who you have invited? I have done nothing to offend anyone here, but he brings his blade towards every person to openly speak thier mind. ooc: The second he has his back turned Orcy, I'm roasting his ass. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-22-07, 07:53 PM | "As I have said repeatedly, I am not a Knight, yet. But you will NOT be attacking anyone here today. You have shown hostility and were, if I am not mistaken, about to breath fire upon this man for his rudeness. Yes, he is rude, but he has comitted no crime unfortunately or I would drag him down to the prison myself. If you are so determined that blood be shed here today then I will be happy to assist you in that end. If you would, however, be civil for but a MOMENT we could perhaps enjoy the festivities and not threaten the lives of others! There has been enough madness and stupidity here and I do not wish for there to be more." Sireon lowers his blade a bit, keeping it in hand should the elf decide he would indeed enjoy a battle. His other hand slips down to his belt, and grasps a pair of manacles hanging from it. With hard eyes and a set jaw he watches the actions of the elf, and takes care to keep track of the wild woman as well. |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 08:00 PM | Richard smiles and tosses his leather ball in the air a few times. Spinning it on his finger he drops it to his foot and lobs it back up into his hand. "Come on now, can't we all get along? I've done nothing to force myself on anyone. Indeed, all I've done was compliment a woman! Elves! Can't even tell their men and women apart most times. Why, I wouldn't be the least bit suprised of some of their women WERE men. I mean honestly. Anyway, lets play a game shall we? Catch!" Richard throws his ball into the air, angling it just enough so that it comes down toward the elf's head after hitting it's arc. |
| turalisj02-22-07, 08:10 PM | Shrean brought his leg around, kicking and sending the ball straight towards the human who threw it. |
| NightScreamer2002-22-07, 08:14 PM | Arthur looks on in amazement, how far this predictament has escalated. He vanishes backwards away from the obnoxiously enraged crowd, looking onward he spots the Human and her friend leave... and begins to tail them. Hide check: 16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=887273); keeping a 60 ft distance behind them. |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-22-07, 08:18 PM | Richard bounces the ball into the air with his knee, catching it, he tosses it up into the air the same way. Letting it fall above the elf's head. He grins, slightly confused as to how the elf brought his foot up that high, but amused none-the-less. "See! Fun! No reason to be fighting now is there elfy?" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-22-07, 08:22 PM | Sireon glances toward Richard with a raised eyebrow. His sword lowered toward the ground but still ready in his hand should the need arise to use it. "Are you... seriously playing catch with a man who was moments ago ready to burn you to death?" |
| Wilds02-22-07, 10:57 PM | "....You tall people never cease to amaze me. Stop your quarreling so we may all make it through the night. I doubt the guards will take kindly to a fight and will most likely take all of us away, dead or alive. So I suggest we stop all of this stupidity because I for one do not like sleeping in a cell. Even more so in the ground. Now go your seperate ways if you must but act civil why dont you. Theres no point dieing now, the fun has only begun. Come there is free drink." He points towards the table with the drinks on it. Hoping the people would calm down and relax. |
| Zombomaniac02-22-07, 11:51 PM | (Brae is to far away to hear the conversation between Richard and all them, but with a spot check of 19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=887603) I am sure she sees Shrean arrguing and possibly getting ready to kill Richard. Also Dyne do what you wish with my spot check in regard to Screamer's tailing of DF and I.) After that last bit, Marxis watches Brae leave. "If you'll excuse me, I believe I'm going to stick by her. Someone has to try and talk her out of punching any more of the guests, after all.";) And with that, he's off after Brae. When he gets alongside her "Madam Moonwrath, if I may have a moment of your time, may I please speak with you in private?" "Yes, sir Marxis. Getting away from the fool will do me some good. Lead the way so we may talk." (Do druids have anything that is the equivalent to "Sir" or do they use "Sir"?) |
| CaptainShar02-23-07, 12:09 AM | To Alth: So, wait, it was Alth, right? All that excitement, want to make sure I'm not mixing things up. Reg moves next to Alth at the "small" table. (@ Zombo - I'm sure you weren't a Druid forever - use whatever you grew up with. Or "Good So-and-so" is generally useful.) |
| Demonfey02-23-07, 12:23 AM | "Alright." He leads her away from the party, to the nearest garden. When they get there, he begins making small talk with her about a myriad of things, including wizard w*******s, until he says something that sounds like it would be an obvious lead in to a pick up line and leans in to whisper "The city guards are very watchful. Now, it'd probably be a good time to act as if I tried to invite you elsewhere, maybe to food and drink." (For the record: he's just paranoid at this point. Always seems to be someone about to walk up.) |
| NightScreamer2002-23-07, 01:20 AM | lthough he does not hide himself from being sighted, this was not his intention... He was just walking away from the outlandish acts in the courtyard. That's it...right? Arthur continues to peak over his shoulder at the courtyard as if wondering what is to happen. Bluff, pretending to be doing just above whilst tailing: 28 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=887777) He still continues to look, as unsuspcious as he can, and listens carefully. Listen check: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=887778) |
| Wilds02-23-07, 02:21 PM | Nodding to the halfling. "Ah another smart one, come let us drink and forget the quarrels of these people." Taking a sip from his drink, "What brings you to this.....amusing....place?" |
| CaptainShar02-23-07, 03:04 PM | I received an invitation from Senator Felnan. I assume I'm intended to represent my patron in some business here, though I haven't heard too much about that, yet. Probably in a competition - some of the pansy nobles hire folk like us to win contests for them. I've lived in the city here a while, but I've never been invited to something like this, before. I work down at the docks. |
| turalisj02-23-07, 04:15 PM | Funny, the good senator invited me aswell. It was my understanding that a senator normaly only invited one guest. |
| Wilds02-23-07, 04:23 PM | Interesting....it would seem something is up." |
| CaptainShar02-23-07, 04:36 PM | He must have a wide spread of contacts - you two look as though you hail from elsewhere, if I'm not mistaken? |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-23-07, 04:43 PM | Richard watches as the elf, not paying attention to his second throw, is thumped on the top of the head by the ball. Richard smirks and folds his arms over his chest, shaking his head. "Well if you start playing a game, you can't just stop or something like that happens. I mean really, taking your eye off the ball in the middle of a game, thats just not too bright." |
| Wilds02-23-07, 08:17 PM | I'm from my home village, nothing more." |
| CaptainShar02-23-07, 08:27 PM | I guess not everyone is chatty. I was born at sea, actually. My parents were sailing merchants until they lost a cargo and were forced to settle down here. I've tried sailing away on another crew, but I never could leave them for good. So, I do a little of this and little of that, mostly hard labor down at the docks. Since they settled down they had quite a few more kids, too; that kept them put. So many little kids can get annoying after awhile, though, you know? |
| Zombomaniac02-23-07, 09:52 PM | "Alright." He leads her away from the party, to the nearest garden. Always seems to be someone about to walk up.) Whispering aswell. "That is fine with me." In a louder voice. "Yes that sounds wonderfull. Lets be off." Spot check: 26 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=888996) |
| Wilds02-23-07, 10:00 PM | "Yes children can be annoying at times. Normally they are fun to be around" |
| CaptainShar02-23-07, 10:37 PM | Perhaps. You a family man? |
| NightScreamer2002-24-07, 12:07 AM | With a smirk Arthur wipes the brim of his hat and trots u next to the two keeping an eye on the ruckus. "Whew! That was a pretty strange altercation don't you think?" As he speaks his hands do an act of their own, reaching around towards Marxis and grasping his invitation which he then slips into his sleeve without notice... hopefully. "Ah well! Better be off... the night is getting much to interesting for me." Sleight of Hand 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=889148) |
| Wilds02-24-07, 12:19 AM | "Family? No not really, always found the next generation to be useful though" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-24-07, 12:20 AM | Sireon blinks as the ball lands on top of the elf, who appears to have forgotten it was thrown in the first place. Sheathing his sword he shakes his head and walks away from the group to sit down at a table and have a bite to eat and something to drink. The foolish albino man was going to get himself killed. Of course, were the elf to attack it was certain the guards would strike him down as well. Sireon didn't quite care anymore however. |
| CaptainShar02-24-07, 12:26 AM | So, have any idea where the guidelines are for the activities scheduled for the final day? |
| NightScreamer2002-24-07, 01:44 AM | Invitation tucked under his sleeve, Arthur smiles under his brim as he pulls it down and wanders off. He goes off and sits at the bar next to that human warrior that attempted to help the pale one. "Quite an interesting day hasn't it been?" And with that, a smile and a glass of strong spirits he raises his glass to the other man. "Cheers?" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-24-07, 01:54 AM | Sireon glances over at the man beside him and scoffs. Laughing loudly he clanks his glass against the other mans and shakes his head. Looking over his shoulder at the others he had just left behind. "Yes... quite a day. Not quite the celebration I was looking for, but I suppose it's no suprise. Why such... easily angered people were invited to such an event I cannot fathom..." |
| NightScreamer2002-24-07, 02:01 AM | With a chuckle to himself and downing the drink at once he rests it against his cheek covering it from the view of anyone but the man besides him. e speaks in a low soft voice, barely audible to anyone farther than a meter away. "Those five... the Elf, the Half-Elf, the Halfling, the Gnome, and that Human woman... up to no good they are. Something devious is going on. You seem like a man on the straight and narrow... thoguht maybe you'd like to help see what they're up to... or if we can stop them." |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-24-07, 02:07 AM | "I had wondered at the friendlyness of some of these individuals. Truely it seems the crazy flows freely here. I suppose another drink wouldn't hurt if you happen to be buying." Sireon nods toward the man beside him with a smirk. Drinking a bit more before resting his empty glass on the bar infront of him. |
| NightScreamer2002-24-07, 02:10 AM | Arthur cringes slightly and his eyes widen a bit... "We have to PAY!?" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-24-07, 02:11 AM | Sireon laughs and shakes his head. Looking around at the food and drink laid out around them. "You know, I don't believe we do. I suppose I was mistaken." |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-24-07, 11:52 AM | Scooping up the ball and tossing it into his bag, Richard heads over to the bar with the Knight and the other man. He plops himself down on the stool and slips the ball back into his pack. With a stretch and a yawn he turns towards the other two and grins. "You know, its quite a lot of fun angering the most suspicious looking people in this place. Not only does it distract them from their whispering and talking about watchful guards... but I also got a handfull of she-druid. A little on the rough side for me, but hey, we can't all be picky. I was hoping they'd be stupid enough to attack me, being that I am an alchemist for the crown, that would have been hilarious! Oh well, the names Richard by the way, and thanks for helping me out back there. I didn't like the idea of my family being removed from the private property and fed to wolves." |
| Wilds02-24-07, 11:57 AM | "Actually that never occurred to me...Haven't heard of any activities going on either. Perhaps they are keeping it a surprise? Nobles like these have to be keep entertained or else they start plotting." |
| CaptainShar02-24-07, 12:45 PM | Happens every year. Some poor strong bloke will come back after the festival, boasting about how he won the contest, and what does he have to show for it? A few coins from the noble who hired him, while the titled family gets the trophy. Guess I'm getting soft, to come and try for it myself this year. But who invited you here? |
| Wilds02-24-07, 04:48 PM | "Senator Felnan which seems rather strange as he invited you too I believe and others. This could be interesting, it would seem a noble is playing a game. Well we will see, my kind are not well received at times." |
| CaptainShar02-24-07, 05:04 PM | Well, I think we can look out for each other. It isn't too hard to stay out of sight, anyway, in the midst of these tallfolk. Shall we see if the druid has calmed down? Not that I blame her, though. I'm only too grateful most of the rich folk are tall and not ones to look at my sisters. Reg gets up and heads toward Marxis and Brae. |
| Dyne02-24-07, 05:26 PM | (Quite a lot to catch up on. If I miss anything, let me know.) As Marxis listens to the discussions around him, he hears a lot of talk about the Founder's Festival. This festival is a celebration of the founding of the kingdom and the reign of the kings. The citizens seem to be proud of their nation, and they are glad to be independent of Tyranor, which they view as vile and corrupt. The Founder's Festival is a 2-week long celebration; each day features a skit that covers a part of the nation's history, followed by a competition related to those events. The last three days of the festival involve an arena tournament, culminating in a championship match and an award feast on the final day, when the Founder's Cup is awarded based on the results of the festival's competitions. The guards seem to take a special interest in the outspoken group of adventurers during the confrontation between the druid and the alchemist, especially when Lady Moonwrath draws her spear and threatens Richard. A few minutes after they disperse, a patrol follows after Marxis and Brae. A pair of guards approaches Richard and company as they are sitting down drinking. "We apologize for the inconvenience, good sirs. The situation is now under control. Threats against the lives of royal agents shall not be tolerated." As the crowd begins to settle down, the agreeable and well-dressed man steps up to the wooden platform again and addresses the assembly. "Once again, welcome to the 611th Annual Founder's Festival. As I'm sure you are all aware, this is a two-week celebration. Each day will have festivities and competitions for the coveted Founder's Cup to accompany our celebration of national history. Participation in the competitions will be rewarded with gold, and whoever wins the most gold at the end of the festival also wins the Founder's Cup. The scores for each contestant of the Founder's Cup will be tracked throughout the festival, and they can be viewed at any time at this table," he says, gesturing to the table in front of the stage. On top of the table is a row of silver cups, each engraved with the name of one of the contestants. Also upon each cup is written, in prismatic lettering, "Score: 0 gp". The man on the stage continues speaking. "The first competition for the Founder's Cup will begin tomorrow. All nobles and their champions should meet here by noon day for the parade into the Merchants Quarter, where the competitions shall take place in front of roaring crowds. If you arrive before noon, breakfast will be provided." "Also, the seventh day of the festival is a rest day, as well as the young Prince William III's birthday. A special birthday celebration shall be held at the castle, and your attendance will be an honor to the prince." "Enjoy your food and drink. When you are finished, servants will show you to your sleeping quarters." As the man finishes speaking, a servant approaches and bows before each table, offering to take orders for food or drink. |
| CaptainShar02-24-07, 08:20 PM | Reg notices that the main meal is coming and quickly sits back down. I'll have duck, sir. And a glass of water. |
| Sssargoth02-24-07, 08:58 PM | "Heh. And to think, this was only day one." Orn slowly makes his way to where Arthur, Richard and Sireon are sitting and takes a seat for himself, while keeping an eye on the elf. "As much as I would have liked to see that elf get slaughtered, it would probably be better to leave it alone for now. You never know what contacts it might have. The names Orn, by the way, Orn Sauriv." |
| NightScreamer2002-24-07, 11:14 PM | With another smile and a raise of his glass to his newfound "friends" Arthur tips it back and drains it. Letting out a sigh of delight he leans back a bit in his stool. He thinks for a second and picks up his third glass and raises it in toast. "Ah, see? No matter what the dwarves speak and the elves whisper, we Humans always work together! No matter from what lands we came, no matter our religion or strife, us Humans stick together men, us Humans friends for life! So when the shadow falls upon the land, for when the fire rains, for when evil shows its face... Us Humans shall be its bane!" Throwing back the glass and with a final thought of I must be insane he downs the glass and slams it down with a whoop! |
| Wilds02-25-07, 12:45 PM | Alth sits next to Reg and orders some wine and a side of beef. "Interesting, what contests do you think there will be?" |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-25-07, 01:01 PM | Richard grins and raises his glass, tipping it back and drinking to the other man's speech. He turns toward the waiter and rubs his bare chin a bit. After some short thinking he smiles. "I'll have some baby ribs. They'll be so delicious and tastey, I can see it now... ah delicious. Oh, and bring me some mead and eeeehhh.... lets say some potatoes. That should do it. Oh, and is it possible to have that woman killed and cooked?" |
| CaptainShar02-25-07, 01:18 PM | OOC: ZOMBO IS PLAYING A HUMAN. I'm guessing the usual - some wrestling, some archery, some jousting; don't know if there's anything I'll be particularly good at. Unless they happen to have a duel in an obstacle course. Or if they have a general competition of marksmanship, I might have a shot. He pats his sling. But I'm like my rapier, light and fast. You look about the same? |
| Wilds02-25-07, 01:45 PM | "About, more a fan of the short sword personally. Still getting the hang of quickness with it though. That and some abilities my race is known for." |
| CaptainShar02-25-07, 02:15 PM | Such as? |
| Wilds02-25-07, 02:51 PM | "Some whisper gnomes, that is what I am, have been known to have abilities similar to those of earth gnomes and a fewer still can create quiet." |
| Demonfey02-25-07, 08:10 PM | With a smirk Arthur wipes the brim of his hat and trots u next to the two keeping an eye on the ruckus. "Whew! That was a pretty strange altercation don't you think?" As he speaks his hands do an act of their own, reaching around towards Marxis and grasping his invitation which he then slips into his sleeve without notice... hopefully. "Ah well! Better be off... the night is getting much to interesting for me." Sleight of Hand 24 Stunned that anyone could actually hear him, Marxis fails to notice the theft (would no matter what). After he left, Marxis just says "Well, nothing we can do about him now. Anyway, shall we go? I'd like to know what languages you speak, by the way." |
| CaptainShar02-25-07, 08:16 PM | Ah. Reg speaks a little more quietly, and in gnome. But I assume you do know why we are here. Did you manage to find the, er, wine-taster? Or was it the chef? |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-25-07, 08:29 PM | Ignoring the comment about eating the druid, and smiles, nodding to Arthur and clinking his glass against the other man's. He tips it back and drinks down his glass. When the man comes around for orders Sireon sets down his empty glass and thinks for a moment. "Yes... let me see. I shall have the steak, and... a bottle of Elven Moondrop. I will also have a bit of swordfish as well... yes that will do. Ah and let us not forget the potatoes, I'll need a potatoe with all the usual spices and seasoning and whatnot that should be on a potato. Oh, and please do not forget the steak sauce." |
| NightScreamer2002-25-07, 08:35 PM | Snickers to himself at Richard's final comment. With a thought he stands from the stool and looks at the two men. "If you'd excuse me sirs I must... pick up on some unfinished business... I'll meet up with you later on." With a short bow he flops his leather hat back onto his head and heads towards the 'stalls' and then vanishes into the batch of people. Taking 20 on a Hide check for a total of 25 in order to Blend into the Crowd and to sneak into and empty "bathroom" or outhouse like area. |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 08:40 PM | Stunned that anyone could actually hear him, Marxis fails to notice the theft (would no matter what). After he left, Marxis just says "Well, nothing we can do about him now. Anyway, shall we go? I'd like to know what languages you speak, by the way." Following Marxis Brae seems to be enjoying the outdoor air. "I speak the common tongue of man and the secret language of the Druids. I am afraid that is all I currently know. What languages do you speak friend?" |
| Demonfey02-25-07, 08:51 PM | "I speak human, elven, auran, and draconic, myself. Drat, I was hoping we could use the language of my other ancestor to talk for a while." You notice that his ears are slightly pointy. |
| Wilds02-25-07, 08:54 PM | Alth leans in and speaks quietly. "Yes and unfortunately I have yet to sample the chief's fine cooking." Leaning back a little as too not appear too conspicuous. "I am looking forward to it though, it will prove interesting, surely the challenges here will be worthy of our skills?" |
| CaptainShar02-25-07, 09:13 PM | I suppose we'll focus on the first contests first, then, and wait for further adventure to come to us. |
| Wilds02-25-07, 10:34 PM | "Yes why not? Take each as they come and defeat those that we can" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-25-07, 10:43 PM | Sireon coughs and clears his throat, taking a sip of water. He nods to the place where the other man had just been and shrugs, apparenlty missing him when he strode off. (Wilds, you are up in Orcy's game) |
| Dyne02-25-07, 11:10 PM | As the servants carry out their orders, a detail of four guards approaches Brae Moonwrath. "You are under arrest for unlawful assault against an agent of the royal crown. Surrender yourself peacefully and you will not be harmed." Their hands rest on the hilts of their swords. |
| Demonfey02-25-07, 11:13 PM | "The drunkard hitting on her was an agent of the crown?" |
| Dyne02-25-07, 11:16 PM | "Sir Richard is an alchemist employed by the royal court, yes. Now, if you will come with us, lady," they say to Brae. |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 11:25 PM | (OOC: I am withholding my post for a moment. This is not an act of disrespect. Dyne please check your PM box.) |
| NightScreamer2002-25-07, 11:26 PM | Elegantly emerging from a crowd stands a Half-Elf dressed in nice clothing, carrying a small satchel besides him and smiling broadly at the crowd. To those who have seen him before, the half-elf male known as Marxis yawns politely and walks throw the people greeting them and chit chatting among them. Turning around he stops dead in his tracks, staring forward. "Y-y-y-you!? What in the name of... GUARDS! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS OUTRAGE!?" His arm extended and his finger pointing in the direction of the true Marxis. His face full of fury and his voice a decible from being thunderous. "AN IMPOSTER!? How could... you... GITS let this man IN!?" Disguise check: 37 (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/772051/2/istockphoto_772051_natural_20.jpg) Bluff check: 26 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891508) |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 11:28 PM | Disguise check: 37 (Do we not roll for those? ) |
| NightScreamer2002-25-07, 11:29 PM | No, I took 20; Dyne knows Sorry for the confusing, editted above for your enjoyment |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 11:31 PM | No, I took 20; Dyne knows (OOC: Changlings can do that? Dang. Do they also get a huge bonus on bluff since you are getting a 23+ on your rolls a lot. I can't find my MM3 to check.) |
| NightScreamer2002-25-07, 11:35 PM | (OOC: Changlings can do that? Dang. Do they also get a huge bonus on bluff since you are getting a 23+ on your rolls a lot. I can't find my MM3 to check.) Its not that, just look at my rolls so far, its just dumb luck... however click on the '37' link... do it... dare you. |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 11:35 PM | Its not that, just look at my rolls so far, its just dumb luck... however click on the '37' link... do it... dare you. I did. Very nice that. LoL.:D We might want to get back to the game now. I am just waiting for a response from Dyne before I post Brae's reply. |
| Zombomaniac02-25-07, 11:40 PM | (Got my responce.) "Sir Richard is an alchemist employed by the royal court, yes. Now, if you will come with us, lady," they say to Brae. "What is the meaning of this? That man violated my person. Drawn weapon or no I did not touch him but he certianly did me!" |
| Demonfey02-25-07, 11:45 PM | He checks for his invitation, then mutters to himself. "If I may, before this gets more convoluted and uglier, suggest a solution to this new issue, though." He takes a napkin and some water, and wets it. "Now, there is one of two ways to make an imposter. One would be magic, the other simple makeup. Now, I am willing to undergo tests to prove my identity, involving a detect magic spell, and, if that fails, attempting to wipe off any makeup or disguise. Preferrably from someone besides Richard, considering how there was unpleasantness involving him. After all, invitations can get stolen, so that's no way to truly tell who's who. Is that not a fair way to ascertain the truth of that matter?" He wipes off his face, showing no make up. He hands it to the true imposter. "Care to take the risk, good sir?" Diplomacy: 14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891530):censored: |
| Dyne02-25-07, 11:45 PM | "Sir Richard violated no laws. However, you did. Now, come this way, please." When the changeling emerges disguised as Marxis, the guards look confused. They scratch their heads in bewilderment as they look from the impostor to the true Marxis. "I don't know what trickery this is," says the leader of the detail, "but we will have to detain both of you until this is sorted out. As I said to the lady, come peacefully and you shall not be harmed." |
| NightScreamer2002-25-07, 11:57 PM | Looking angrier he strides up to Marxis. Pulling out the invitation and holding it towards the guards. "Look here sir! I doubt that anyone would allow someone access to their invitation to such a prestigious event! Someone worthy of invitation would keep it considerably safe, as I have! That way mongrels trying to sneak into our personal business or the business of those that invited us here, would be kept at bay!" He snarls and steps back taking a deep breath and calming himself. Correcting his hair and wiping off the sweat from his brow he closes his eyes. "Guards. Please escort this man away from this party, and myself." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:06 AM | "There're always nimble hands that can take anything you tuck away. You won't go to such lengths as even magic, or even do something so simple as wipe off your face with a moist napkin, to prove your identity? And you seem to be much more...defensive. Like you have something to hide. And further more, what fool would look exactly like someone who no one at this party would recognize? It would be easier to just look like themselves and use a false name." |
| Wilds02-26-07, 12:09 AM | Leans in again, "amusing isn't it? picker picker..." sipping his wine |
| Dyne02-26-07, 12:11 AM | The guard captain sighs. "I assure you both, we will get this figured out. Now, if you will accompany me back to the post, we will deal with this there." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:13 AM | "Agreed." He looks closer at the face. "Ah, you got something there." He cleans off a fleck of spittle. "There you go.":D And he walks over to the guards and Brae. "Shall we, Lady Moonwrath? It'll be easier to talk to them without everyone staring." |
| NightScreamer2002-26-07, 12:26 AM | The man seems taken aback as the other man touched him. "Sir, if you do not see the sweat I wiped away from yelling, then I deem you an astonishly bad representation of Senator. In fact, I believe someone would try to replace me to sabotage his reputation here at these events." Shaking his head he smiles showing off his own mouth. "And besides, your teeth are all wrong. Look at that! Ghastly. No, please if you would like a member to scan me more magical protections, please do. In fact... we have someone employed by the Royals in this very room. Furthermore, it was the same man she is trying to get kicked out..." With this he narrows his eyes. "I see... You were trying to get a member of the Royal Court kicked out of this party so that they wouldn't be able to discern any of your tricks. Clever you two... Very clever indeed." Crossing his arms he looks to the Guards. "Guards... I would process these two and see if there have any reports about anyone fitting their true descriptions around the kingdom. They were also trying to disrupt the actions of an employee of the Royal Court. Please, on behalf of Senator Felnan, remove them from this courtyard and into holding cells for the night if you would please. We will send a member of our deligation down in the morning in order for release." He turns, the stops and speaks again. "Keep them seperate, we cannot allow people like them to continue their plotting." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:32 AM | "But it wasn't sweat. It was spittle. If you're going to be a good representation of a senator, you should remember the flecks of foam that come out of your mouth when you're mad. And I did say besides Richard due to the unpleasantness with him, if you remember. I didn't even know he worked for the crown til the guards said so. After all, he may be biased. And they want you to come along too, if you forgot." |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 12:35 AM | To Alth, still in gnome: Huh. That gave it away. But how to reveal him without getting ourselves in trouble? |
| NightScreamer2002-26-07, 12:39 AM | "But it wasn't sweat. It was spittle. If you're going to be a good representation of a senator, you should remember the flecks of foam that come out of your mouth when you're mad. And I did say besides Richard due to the unpleasantness with him, if you remember. After all, he may be biased. And they want you to come along too, if you forgot." OOC: No... it was sweat from being angry... as I stated above. |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:40 AM | And what I said I was wiping off your face was spittle from your rants, to be mocking. So there. |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 12:45 AM | (If there's a crowd gathering around the disturbance) Reg gets up and joins the crowd watching. |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:49 AM | "What're you waiting for, my good sir? If you're the real Marxis, then they will have nothing to go on and you'll get to come back to the party, free of my pestering. If not, well, you'll still probably be free of my pestering." |
| NightScreamer2002-26-07, 12:56 AM | "Guards, to be sure I won't leave this courtyard until the evening is through. If you need anything I shall be here or at my place of residence. I would also... if you could... Contact the Senator on my behalf and explain this curious situation about them trying to 'sabotage' his Champion. Anything else, or would you please remove the filth from my sight?" Standing back he looks stout and unnerved at Marxis then at the guard, nodding. Diplomacy check: 23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891596) |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 01:02 AM | Hey, doesn't this city claim to be fair? The two guys even look the same! Take both of 'em in. If you don't, you'll be dishonoring the law. |
| Dyne02-26-07, 01:06 AM | (Nightscreamer's Diplomacy check won) The guard captain nods. "I am sorry for the inconvenience, sir. We will get this sorted out. Enjoy the party," he says to the impostor Marxis. He then turns to the real Marxis, believe he is the fake. "We will sort this out at the watch post. We shall reveal your plotting, you fraud." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 01:06 AM | Sighs. To the guards "if Lady Moonwrath's ready to go, I am, too, and I'd like to plead on her defense along the way, if that'd be alright with you. And what will happen if, in the end I'm Marxis? Will he be arrested?" |
| Dyne02-26-07, 01:06 AM | Hey, doesn't this city claim to be fair? The two guys even look the same! Take both of 'em in. If you don't, you'll be dishonoring the law. (You would need to make a Diplomacy check to convince them of anything.) |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-26-07, 01:11 AM | "Whatever that imposter says will be lies! ALL LIES! Why, they've been plotting since they left I bet. I think you should perform a full strip AND cavity search. Make sure they aren't hiding anything the wicked thieves and killers I say! Do it for your own saftey!" Richard slams his fist on the table then winces and shakes it rapidly, blowing on it a bit. |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 01:12 AM | Reg's above statement was made in a mildly convincing tone. Diplomacy 10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891618) Sorry; I tried! |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 01:14 AM | "...Okay, that's it. I can take besmirching my name, but now your just getting nasty about it. Can we skip the part that Richie suggested? That'd just be demeaning to the lady and myself, and bring shame to the name of Bristol. Probably only suggested it as revenge for striking out earlier with her." Diplomacy to have this not end with a cavity search: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891620) |
| Dyne02-26-07, 01:18 AM | Sighs. To the guards "if Lady Moonwrath's ready to go, I am, too, and I'd like to plead on her defense along the way, if that'd be alright with you. And what will happen if, in the end I'm Marxis? Will he be arrested?" The guards are unconvinced by Reg's argument. They turn to Marxis to respond. "Plead all you like, but it will not change the fact that she was witnessed by members of the watch as performing an illegal act. As for yourself, I assure that you shall receive fair process under the law. We use all means at our disposal to ascertain the guilty and the innocent. And do not worry, we shall not unnecessarily violate your privacy." He rolls his eyes at Richard. |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 01:23 AM | "Fine, then how about bring in the other guy? If not now, then at a later date? And keep guards on him? If he is as he says, he should have nothing to hide and no reason to say no to you doing this, since it would make him look better. And maybe something to help sober Richie-boy up a bit so he'd stop making such a scene." Diplomacy, get him stuck in the act indefinitely: 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=891630) |
| Zombomaniac02-26-07, 09:21 AM | "This is why I never come to the city." Brae sighs calming herself. "People lying about who they really are and, apparently, the law supports the violation of women. What are women considered in this city? Property? Don’t bother answering my question. I know you will only say some useless statement about how he 'broke no laws.' Gods, I miss the animals of the forest. They never lie." She looks off into the distance obviously not caring about anything here any more. "Guards I know you are only doing your job, and I actually respect that, so to make this fast just place a couple guards on the other Marxis." Brae jestures to the fake Marxis. "That way if he is right and we are 'wicked thieves and killers' then any other allies we may have out here wont be able to kill the 'real' Marxis." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 12:25 PM | Marxis gets an idea. "By the way, since he says he's Marxis and all, get him to sing a bit for you. His invitation does have 'bard' on it, after all. After all this, it'd be nice to give the crowd a good show that doesn't end with someone going to jail.":D Diplomacy, get him caught having to sing: 25 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=892079) |
| Dyne02-26-07, 03:34 PM | The guard captain sighs in annoyance. "Just come along." (The next person to roll a Diplomacy check will have their virtual fingers broken. One should've been enough, I don't need another for each addendum you think up.) |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 03:43 PM | Shrugging, he goes with them. "Sorry, but he made it so fun to egg him on like that." (Sorry. Seemed like a good idea at the time.) |
| Wilds02-26-07, 05:53 PM | Alth sits quietly with his drink, watching all this transpire" |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-26-07, 08:54 PM | "I'm hungry... where did that druid go? Maybe I should buy her and make her cook and clean for me. Why, that would make her mad just to hear I'm sure. I should go down to the dungeon and suggest it to her. That would be funny..." Richard appears to think for a moment and then quickly covers his lower regions and coughs. "Then again, it may also be hazardous to the health of my family. You know, she may not have a spear but I'm sure that crazy witch would try to bite me." |
| Dyne02-26-07, 10:45 PM | Shrugging, he goes with them. "Sorry, but he made it so fun to egg him on like that." (Sorry. Seemed like a good idea at the time.) The guard detail escorts the prisoners out of the party. However, there are still plenty of guards left behind. The adventurers are constantly under scrutiny of watchful eyes. (Don't worry about it. It's just that you don't need to make another roll each time. You should've been able to fit several requests under just one die roll.) |
| Wilds02-26-07, 10:49 PM | To him self, "well well, this could be amusing now couldn't it....." |
| Demonfey02-26-07, 10:52 PM | The guard detail escorts the prisoners out of the party. However, there are still plenty of guards left behind. The adventurers are constantly under scrutiny of watchful eyes. (Don't worry about it. It's just that you don't need to make another roll each time. You should've been able to fit several requests under just one die roll.) He whispers to the guard "Faster, before Brae hears Richard." Probably one of the few times a prisoner has ever wanted a faster trip to a prison cell. |
| NightScreamer2002-26-07, 11:18 PM | With a sigh and a bow to the guards as Marxis and Brae are lead away, he excuses himself from the group. Passing through the crowd of people, he vanishes from "sight" from any people trying to catch a glance of him, making his way back to the loo almost as if he was invisible. Hide to 'Fade into Crowd' (taking 20): 26 |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 11:19 PM | Reg follows him. I assume he can do that before the "twenty" is up. |
| Wilds02-26-07, 11:45 PM | Stands up quietly and follows Beau. |
| Zombomaniac02-26-07, 11:47 PM | Stands up quietly and follows Beau. (Who?) |
| CaptainShar02-26-07, 11:52 PM | (Either nickname works - Beauregard.) To Marxis lookalike, whispered conspiratorially: Hey, Marxis, wasn't it? I think we should discuss this business with Brae and that other half-elf getting taken in. It might change our plans. Y'know what I mean? Reg winks. |
| NightScreamer2002-27-07, 12:52 AM | Stopping and looking at the two, Marxis raises a brow, then speaks in a whisper. "Yes! Perfect idea! While everyone's attention if focused on ME we'll have this conversation! Brilliant you two!" He grumbles and speaks in a snarling whisper. "Now go entertain the others, we should talk when the crowd has calmed! Now go disperse and stop paying attention to me. They might get wise you know..." He turns around and uses a quick motion and gesture to try to switch their attentions elsewhere, and attempts to escape amongst the crowd. Diversion: 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=893584) Hide: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=893585) - 10 = 11 The Diversion and Hide are only in case you fail your Sense Motives (and possibly Guards... but i believe they believe me by this point as well), otherwise... I believe you should notice how dumb it is to speak of conspiracy in a crowded courtyard and disperse embarrassed... |
| Dyne02-27-07, 01:04 AM | (Ignore Nightscreamer's Bluff check of 19. Since he's not actually lying about anything, there's no point to making a check. I suppose he just got a little "Bluff-happy". Also, can Reg and Alth make Sense Motive checks against Nightscreamer's original Bluff check (DC 26)? I would also normally ask for Spot checks, but I'm not sure if it's possible for either of you to match his Disguise check (which was 30-something). Anyway, if you fail the Sense Motive, you should RP as though you truly believe Nightscreamer is Marxis. This should get interesting....) |
| Wilds02-27-07, 08:17 AM | OOC: so its not possible for us to have been watching and noticed a second marxis come out of no where and do that? kind of strange |
| NightScreamer2002-27-07, 10:33 AM | OOC: so its not possible for us to have been watching and noticed a second marxis come out of no where and do that? kind of strange OOC: The point is you did see the second Marxis arrive, however because his performance was so convincing you believe he is the real Marxis and the one there was an imposter. |
| Demonfey02-27-07, 11:33 AM | OOC: but how do they know that you are the one they're meant to work with, and not the other one? Or either one of us at all? If I remember correctly, I never said anything to them about watchful guards, only Brae. |
| CaptainShar02-27-07, 11:47 AM | OOC: Can we get a circumstance bonus, because real Marxis is still being nice to Brae, and we saw him do that before? That was my reasoning for why Reg would know which was which. |
| Wilds02-27-07, 12:20 PM | OOC: The point is you did see the second Marxis arrive, however because his performance was so convincing you believe he is the real Marxis and the one there was an imposter. OOC: your char walked out and made a fool of people and or raised a general rucse. that is enough to note who is who |
| Skull_of_Shadow02-27-07, 12:28 PM | OOC: But the fact is you have never MET the real Marxis. You've been talking to a man who claims to be Marxis. But how do you know he wasn't a fake to begin with? Sure, hes been talking to you and acting nice, but how do you know that wasn't a ruse to get you secure and get info out of you? You don't. |
| CaptainShar02-27-07, 12:37 PM | True... Is Screamer trying to convince us that he really is a half-elf bard named Marxis, and that the man we were talking to before is not Marxis at all, or, Is Screamer trying to convince us that he's the same man we were talking to before (the name of Marxis being largely irrelevant in this case, because even the original one may have been lying)? Two different tactics. I was working with the second one. |
| Demonfey02-27-07, 12:38 PM | OOC: Can we move this to the OOC thread? Also, my point about not having mentioned any guards to Shar and Wilds above. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder02-27-07, 02:03 PM | Sireon watches the events as they unfold, waiting for his meal he smiles a bit as the druid is taken away. He didn't really like that woman, too angry and violent. Of course, he didn't much like Richard's treatement of her either. Sighing, Sireon watches the second Marxis walk away, and the others rush over. They immediately begin acting suspicious again, winking and whispering to the man who just arrived. Sireon approaches one of the guard and leans in, whispering to the man. "I would say... that you and your men should keep an eye on the halfling and the gnome, perhaps that violent elf as well. They've been whispering and acting horribly suspicious since they arrived. I'd watch them myself, but it seems I'll have much else to do during these coming events." |
| CaptainShar02-27-07, 02:48 PM | Please pause on the "Reg and Alth following Screamer" thing; I didn't quite understand what Screamer was trying to pass himself off as. If allowed, I'll change my past two actions (following him and talking to him), based on what Reg was really bluffed into believing. There's no way Reg can beat Screamer's bluff. So Reg now believes that Screamer is Marxis, the half-elf bard. However, he still thinks Demonfey's character is his ally, and Screamer's is not. Demonfey's guy just picked the wrong person to impersonate to get into the party. So Reg just lets Screamer's Marxis walk away, if we're allowed to retcon (remember that my previous actions were based on an improper understanding of what, exactly, Screamer was trying to Bluff us into believing). |
| Dyne02-27-07, 10:16 PM | (Moved to OoC thread.) |
| Demonfey03-01-07, 04:06 AM | Meanwhile, as everyone else was deciding on where to talk about what just happened and how it affected their characters, Brae and Marxis are being led away by the guards. "I've been wondering: how long would each of our stays in your cells be?" |
| CaptainShar03-01-07, 01:47 PM | To Alth, quietly, (still sitting at the table, did NOT follow the new Marxis): Now that I think about it, did that guy going to prison ever officially join our team? Maybe that other half-elf is the real one, or maybe neither of them is at all connected with this business. I suppose Felnan could have invited unrelated guests. |
| Zombomaniac03-01-07, 02:00 PM | (OOC: Screamers Shaperchanger doesn't know anything about the secret phrase that hasn't been loudly said by The Elf Warlock (Which would only be the "watchful guards" part). The invitation would only say he was invited by the same person as us. Just making sure thata clear.) |
| Dyne03-01-07, 02:09 PM | The guards escort the two prisoners to their cells, closing and locking the barred doors. The captain speaks but a single word in answer to Marxis: "Indefinite." (OOC: Screamers Shaperchanger doesn't know anything about the secret phrase that hasn't been loudly said by The Elf Warlock (Which would only be the "watchful guards" part). The invitation would only say he was invited by the same person as us. Just making sure thata clear.) (Anyone looking at this thread knows about the "not-so-secret-anymore phrase". You guys said it so many times in such a suspicious way, it was painfully obvious to any onlookers. And I'm not saying that to be insulting. The the players of the protagonists [Orcy, Nightscreamer, Skull] figured the phrase out a long time ago, and I didn't say anything to them.) |
| Wilds03-01-07, 03:15 PM | Quietly, "I say we keep them out of it. The possibility of getting things mixed up and ruining our fun is not good. So until one of them can prove their side, we keep them out of this. Or at least our fun. So now we wait correct?" |
| Demonfey03-01-07, 03:35 PM | Marxis lays back on his bed/cot/whatever, and begins humming a little tune. Eventually, he casts prestidigitation and begins playing with that, too. |
| CaptainShar03-01-07, 03:37 PM | Best plan anyone's proposed yet. Reg continued with his meal. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-01-07, 11:46 PM | Sireon looks over to the whispering small folk. He watches them, having heard, quite a few times, the same phrase repeated over and over. Sireon finds this rather suspicious, and watches them in case they are planning something. He knows that they intend something because of their constant mention of the guards, but he isn't quite sure what. Perhaps this would be an interesting celebration... or perhaps he was just imagining things. |
| Wilds03-02-07, 08:15 AM | "I wouldn't say that, no one else has thought of a plan. So about those contests, play them fair and see who wins?" Eating his meal as well |
| NightScreamer2003-02-07, 01:45 PM | Walking over to the bar for a glass of Honeywine, Marxis wanders near the small ones table. Taking a sip from his glass he looks down at the too suspciously. "Sorry to be rude but, I could overhear you... well I don't think anyone couldn't overhear you... and I must ask, were you two both sent here by the Senator as well?" His tone is soft but loud enough for any onlooker. Unlike the others he doesn't seem to care about hiding his voice like a rat. |
| CaptainShar03-02-07, 02:08 PM | Indeed. He hired us in a rather roundabout way - most nobles don't like personally combing the dockyards for participants; never actually met the guy face to face - but we're here to compete under his name. Reg looks the half-elf over. You don't seem to be much of an athlete there, though. Why'd he invite you? |
| Wilds03-02-07, 02:57 PM | "Really? I don't remember yelling while I've been sitting here. This should be good, I am looking forward to the competitions. Yes what are you here for?" |
| NightScreamer2003-02-07, 04:23 PM | With a smirk Marxis moves and sits on the ground... for the chairs at the "Small People Table" were well... too small, and placed his glass on the table. "Same as you folk I can only assume... as for Brae, you know the Forestwoman who was just hauled away... We may have to pull some strings to have her released for tomorrow." Marxis grumbles and takes another drink from his glass. "She doesn't deserve to be in prison for being assaulted by a ruffian like that..." thinking a bit he adds "...not to mention, with that man in there... who knows if she'd be safe." |
| Wilds03-02-07, 05:19 PM | "Probably safer in there than out here. Not making friends with the guards is never a good thing. "Accidents" might occur and she might be in more trouble, on the other hand, it could be useful to help her." |
| NightScreamer2003-02-07, 05:36 PM | He nods and looks at the grouping of Humans at the bar, then back at the small-men. "Given time I think I can arrange her release in the morning... Now my friends, I'd hate say this but... I think I'm going to call it a night. There is much work to be done, and the sooner I get on it the better." Marxis stands and gives a small bow and a smirk before heading off. "Keep your wits about you, although a Gnome and Halfling... it is pretty redundant to speak those words to you lot." |
| Wilds03-02-07, 06:58 PM | "That a challenge? I look forward to the contests tomorrow then." |
| CaptainShar03-02-07, 09:28 PM | Reg discusses combat strategies with Alth, speculating on various tactics for use in various combat situations, focusing especially on the use of terrain of varied levels, such as walls, tables, stairs, and chandeliers - Reg is a city man and an acrobat. i.e. I'll help you sneak attack when I can. |
| Wilds03-02-07, 09:44 PM | "Interesting, never thought those objects could be used in such a way." Questions some of the tactics and explains tactics on the plains and forest areas. |
| CaptainShar03-02-07, 09:52 PM | I've always meant to get out of the city more. This is quite useful. I haven't been on a long sea voyage since I was a child, but... And he explains about pitching decks, rigging, etc. |
| NightScreamer2003-03-07, 01:12 AM | "Keep your wits about you, although a Gnome and Halfling... it is pretty redundant to speak those words to you lot." OOC: It's a compliment, fyi... I'm saying your kind is already cunning and that =P |
| Wilds03-03-07, 12:58 PM | Alth nods his head. "Interesting, though I am not one for the seas." OOC: @ nightscreamer, O lol. i couldnt tell from the way it was said, soory |
| NightScreamer2003-04-07, 02:29 AM | Alth nods his head. "Interesting, though I am not one for the seas." OOC: @ nightscreamer, O lol. i couldnt tell from the way it was said, soory OOC: NP, ask Orcy I have a soft spot for the "Small Folk" =D |
| Demonfey03-05-07, 12:52 AM | In the mean time. "Well, I'm bored. Want to hear any stories, Brae?" |
| Zombomaniac03-05-07, 12:54 AM | From either the same cell or the one next to it (depending on what Dyne chooses to do). "I would love to." |
| Demonfey03-05-07, 12:57 AM | "Alright. Now let's see..." He tells a story to pass the time (I'm tired of not being part of things, but don't wish to dirupt things too much. This story will be going for quite a while IG, and is more a 'meanwhile' thing). |
| Zombomaniac03-05-07, 09:22 PM | Brae makes random comments and asks questions pertaining (sp?) to the story from time to time. |
| NightScreamer2003-06-07, 01:13 AM | Marxis makes his way from the party, making for the streets of Bristol to take in the rest of the night before heading off to sleep. Mostly this requires himself to vanish into a dark alley... ...And to come out as the ol' traveller Arthur. Now, time to find a place to stay the night... |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-06-07, 01:15 AM | Sireon finishes his meal and sits back, watching the goings on at the party with a bit of interest. He keeps special watch on Richard and the Elf that had made the threats earlier in the night. (Hoping Dyne will give us some guidance here...) |
| Dyne03-06-07, 09:32 PM | (Hoping Dyne will give us some guidance here...) (Day 2 of the festival will begin as soon as everyone is done socializing at the party. So basically, whenever you all are ready.) |
| Zombomaniac03-06-07, 10:42 PM | (We're all ready.) |
| Wilds03-07-07, 02:09 PM | Alth finishes his conversation with Beau and tries to find his place of rest. To go to sleep OOC: rdy |
| CaptainShar03-07-07, 02:12 PM | Want to stay at my place? Reg asks Alth. If he assents, he takes him down to his family's home above the shipwright workshop. |
| turalisj03-07-07, 10:34 PM | Shrean, meanwhile, has been in the bathroom. It seemed the chicken he had at the party didn't agree with him. When Reg makes the comment of a place to stay, Shrean wandered over. I could use a spot to stay. Don't have much money on me right now.. ooc: when in doubt, claim to be in the bathroom. can anyone give me a paraphrased update? Thanks shadow. I have so many character's going on, I can't keep track of all the names :/ |
| Skull_of_Shadow03-07-07, 10:36 PM | ((Psst, Turalisj... wrong character. You are Shrean in this game. Also, I'm ready to move on as well)) |
| CaptainShar03-07-07, 10:40 PM | Hmm. You're also here because of Felnan you say? I suppose we should get to know our teammates. If you don't mind ducking your head, you can stay with me as well. Let's go, people! And Reg heads out trailed by Shrean and/or Alth. |
| NightScreamer2003-08-07, 01:01 AM | OOC: Ready as well... |
| Wilds03-08-07, 02:14 AM | "Sure, that would be nice" |
| Dyne03-10-07, 09:24 PM | As the hours grows late, the nobles and adventurers start to head off to their quarters, hoping to get an early start tomorrow for the first event of the Founder's Cup. RP Experience Awards: Sireon Licarnus: 55 XP (good roleplaying, exercised the authority of a guard and peacekeeper) Richard: 60 XP (very convincing roleplaying [you play a madman very well]) The Changeling: 75 XP (very clever roleplaying, practically dominated the RP with clever use of disguise and manipulative diplomacy) Orn Sauriv: 10 XP (need to post more, I only count 2 posts in this whole thread) Shrean: 55 XP (good roleplaying, managed to stay out of trouble despite a natural mischieviousness) Beauregard Sweetwater: 55 XP (good roleplaying, developing backstory of character) Brae Moonwrath: 20 XP (failed at subtlety, and points were deducted for exiting in the middle of RP [the OoC part of "this is stupid, just pretend I left" thing]) Alth Shrenan: 50 XP (not very involved, bit of an observer of everything that's going on) Marxis: 55 XP (good roleplaying, made a decent attempt to prove innocence but it's difficult to compete against Nightscreamer's die rolls) Honor Brae Moonwrath: 4 points of dishonor for being accused of a crime (current Honor score is -4) Day 2 post incoming. |
| Dyne03-17-07, 04:43 PM | The second day of the Founder's Festival begins, and the castle courtyard is once again filled with nobles and their champions socializing, getting in a good meal before the day's festivities. A couple hours before noon, the speaker once again climbs atop the wooden stage and addresses the crowd. "Welcome to the second day of Founder's Festival. Today will begin the competitions for the Founder's Cup, so I hope our worthy adventurers are ready for the challenge. But first, the Ruby Theater Acting Troupe will perform a skit in honor of the founder and first king of our great kingdom, Richard I." He steps down from the stage, and the curtain behind him lifts, revealing the scene of a typical noble manor, of fine furniture with paintings and tapestries hanging upon white plastered walls. A man walks out onto the stage and bows to the crowd, then begins to narrate the scene. "Behold this scene before you of our great king's origins, the manor in Tyranor City of the Bristol noble family, a line which is traced back to the formation of Tyranor." After the narrator speaks, a blonde-haired young man dressed in noble garb enters the scene and begins ordering servants in the carrying out of their duties. "The magnificent king, Richard I, born and raised in this house, inherited it at the death of his parents, being the only child of the family. Being a young man with no guidance, his sense of responsibility was lost in the riotous lifestyle that followed the young heirs of so many noble families." When the narrator finishes, the young Richard quickly ushers the servants off the stage as a knock is heard at the door. He answers it and is greeted by a friendly face. "Ah, Sir Veldivere, how pleasant to see you!" The dark-haired man bows to his friend before entering. "The pleasure is mine, good friend," Sir Veldivere answers. "I am pleased to have been able to make it to this little party you are having." "Yes, indeed," Richard replies. "It is fortunate that your knightly duties have brought you closer to home, if only for a little while. Please, sit down, have a drink. The others should be arriving soon." Sir Veldivere takes a seat at a table and pours himself a glass of wine. Sure enough, knocks are soon heard at the door again, and Richard greets yet another guest to his party. In a few moments, the stage is filled with people dancing, eating, drinking, and the party is underway. Richard and Sir Veldivere are sitting alone at a table, enjoying their glasses of wine. "There are many fair young maidens at this gathering," Sir Veldivere teases his friend. "You should make acquaintances with them. Is it not time a man of your age finally settled down?" Richard chuckled in response. "Man of my age? Very well, which young woman caught your eye first?" Sir Veldivere points at a lady who is clearly the prettiest on the stage (though they are all quite fair, mind you). She has on a pretty silk dress, with long brown hair tied in a pony tail and held in place by a gold and jeweled barrette. She exudes a sense of confidence and strength that utterly captivates the young Richard. He stands and heads to meet her, kneeling at her feet. "Fair maiden, forgive my intrusion," Richard tries to explain. "This lord of the manor is so awed to be in your presence. Your beauty captivates and humbles me so, I feel as though a lowly servant before your magnificence. Please tell me your name, so that I may know by what word I may worship you." The woman is taken by surprise, and she giggles a bit at Richard's words. "You do me a great kindness with your compliments, but they are not fitting of me. Rise, for you are not a lowly servant." She lifts Richard up by the hand. "As for my name, you may call me Catherine. And by what name may I call you?" Richard kisses her hand. "Your name is as pretty as your figure. And as for this humble worshipper, you may call me Richard." "Your words are too kind, I fear I am undeserving of them." Catherine begins to blush. "You are more than deserving of them, for your beauty is truly greater than that of the Goddess Vena." Catherine smiles. "Then I shall be your goddess, and you my saint." "This saint shall be your champion," Richard answers. The two kiss passionately as the curtains draw closed. "Young Richard and fair Catherine fell in love at once," the narrator explains. "They met at many parties, until Richard's inheritance ran out...." The curtains open once more to reveal Richard pacing back and forth about the room. A soft knock is heard at the door, and Richard gasps as he answers it. "Catherine! My darling, I thought we had agreed to put an end to these meetings." "My love," she answers. "I cannot bear to be apart from you." "But Catherine," Richard explains. "My inheritance is spent. I am not more than a common man now. Your family would abandone you if they saw us together. Only a hard life lies before me, I do not want that life for you." "I don't care!" Catherine exclaims. "I do not care what my family thinks, or anyone else for that matter! I do not care if we must both lead a simple life without the wealth and riches we have become so accustomed to! I love you Richard!" The young man almost faints from surprise. "As long as I am with you, I will be happy." "Oh Catherine!" Richard embraces and kisses her. "As long as I am with you, I too shall be happy." They kiss once more as the curtains close. "They loved each other so much," the narrator continues, "that no material thing could come in their way. They married and moved to the outskirts of the city, where they labored on a manor farm. It was a harsh life." The curtains open to a different scene, with men (including Richard) laboring in a field while women (including Catherine) sit off to the right knitting clothing. One man whips the laborers as they work, compelling them to work faster. "It was at this time that Richard finally realized the harsh and humble lives that so many of the common folk were forced to lead. There was no joy in that life, only harsh work. The nobility grew rich off the suffering of the laborers, and so much was wasted on entertaining the wealthy as people starved in the streets. It was at this time that good Richard finally decided to do something in the name of those common people." The supervisor starts to whip Richard, who howls in pain. Catherine sees her husband, and she is on the verge of tears. At long last, Richard catches the whip and pulls it from the man's grasp. He then begins to whip the supervisor, who flees off the stage. Richard throws the whip to the ground as the other laborers stare at him. "This life we lead is not right. We do not deserve to suffer while others reap the benefit of our labor. We have as much right to live as any other man, and this is not living." He spits on the ground, and the other people cheer. "This is no place for us here, it is time we found a new home." The curtains close for the last time, and the narrator addresses the crowd. "Richard led his people out of Tyranor and into this land, where they established a city. The city was called Bristol after its leader, and Richard Bristol was chosen to be the king by his people. That city eventually grew and expanded into the great kingdom we have today." The narrator bows to the crowd and exits the stage, the whole courtyard being filled with applause. A moment later the narrator reappears on the stage. "The piece performed for you today was an adaptation of the Ruby Theater's play Richard I. Come visit our theater in Golden Heights Theater District to see the full version." He then gives a short bow before scampering off the stage once more. |
| CaptainShar03-17-07, 10:41 PM | Reg claps loudly at the end of the performance, standing on his seat and shouting "Bravo, Bravo." Before the applause dies down he sits again, silent. He finally says quietly; thoughtful, and obviously moved: If only Richard was here today. |
| Sssargoth03-17-07, 11:10 PM | Orn starts to nod off shortly after the play starts, not being one for unnecissary theatrics. The applause wakes him up again, however, and he looks around in a semi-concious haze. "Huh? Did I miss somethin' impotant?" |
| Demonfey03-17-07, 11:21 PM | The next day (still in jail)... "Wondering what's happening out there...ah, well." (Haven't thought of an escape plan yet...:embarrass ) |
| NightScreamer2003-18-07, 01:17 AM | Arthur passes by the extravagant event without pause. He looks around for familiar faces, knowing today is mostly likely the day he will have to put his muscle to the test. For that reason, it would be good to know who his allies were. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-18-07, 02:13 AM | Sireon claps, sitting back in his seat and smiling as the play ends. He gives a wink to a girl or two who performed in the dancing party where Richard meets Catherine as they pass or bow. He adjusts his chestplate and stretches, looking around the room for familiar faces or any more problems. He is a bit on edge, but doesn't let it show, knowing full well what happened the day before. |
| CaptainShar03-18-07, 05:38 PM | Reg looks like he's pondering. Later, as they're getting a few refreshments to stay them through the competitions, he remarks to Alth: That's what this city needs! We need everybody, 'specially the rich folk, to be like old King Richard...I wonder if we can bring the good old days back? |
| Wilds03-19-07, 02:12 PM | Alth applauds quietly in his seat. Turning to Reg, "The good old days? The days of king Richard? Yes that would be nice, one must wonder though how that can be done" |
| Dyne03-19-07, 04:06 PM | Trumpets sound at the gates of the courtyard, announcing the arrival of men on horseback flying the blue and white colors of Bristol from their lances. Near the front of the group rides a handsome young man garbed in chainmail with his long blonde hair tied in a pony tail behind his helmet. Someone shouts, "Make way! Make way for the prince!" The procession makes its way along the paved path of the courtyard, the young prince greeting notable men of the kingdom along the way. The first man he comes across is Counselor Rozzel, a stout older man whose family is steeped in military tradition. The Rozzel family believes in keeping a strong grip, and the good senator was recently involved in arguments over the creation of a controversial new law that would strengthen the power of the military and limit personal freedoms. The prince next greets the wife of Senator Falur. The senator is nowhere to be found, likely working hard in his office as usual. His household lost a great deal of honor when his brother was convicted of thievery and other crimes. Senator Falur has been trying to rebuild his position ever since. In stark contrast to Counselor Rozzel is Senator Felnan, a thin man that comes from a respectable and hard-working family that grows crops for a living. Felnan has been butting heads with Rozzel recently over the enactment of previously mentioned law, arguing that it would be unfair for the common people. The last notable face is that of Senator Rualon, a tall and handsome man from a family that takes pride in their intelligence and graceful gift of speech. Senator Rualon can be very convincing, and he assumes the role of negotiating compromises in the Senate. The Rualon family has been involved in law and politics for generations, and many of them hold positions as lawyers, judges, and other government appointments. |
| Zombomaniac03-19-07, 04:33 PM | In the Jail. "Tell me Sir, why did you choose to impersonate Marxis?" |
| Demonfey03-19-07, 06:13 PM | "Who says I was impersonating someone at the party? Have you ever met the real Marxis in the past?" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-19-07, 09:35 PM | Sireon smiles when he sees the prince and stands from his seat. He stretches and heads over toward the procession. Once it has stopped he steps out from the crowd and grins, bowing elaborately to Prince William. "Ah, greetings my lord... it is good to see you here, of course it would be better were you a fair princess... but what can one do!?" |
| CaptainShar03-19-07, 10:10 PM | Reg goes up to the most athletic-looking of Rualon's servants (flexible over brawny, if there's more than one who fits the description)... Hello, the name's Reg. Planning to enter any competitions today? (I'm trying to become acquainted with the fellow or gal. Should I roll diplomacy?) |
| Faithful_One03-20-07, 12:39 AM | Coming up shortly after the Price and his men a well built and jovial looking Human fellow follows up at a respectful distance. He displays his invitation to the guards and enter, quickly routing around his majesty’s group and making his way toward Senator Rualon. "Forgive my lateness Senator, I was held up in the forests, have I missed anything out of the ordinary?" (OOC: All the while my PC has Detect Evil going. If he sees any one evil just post it or PM my please. There race and class are known. :) ) |
| Zombomaniac03-20-07, 12:43 AM | "Who says I was impersonating someone at the party? Have you ever met the real Marxis in the past?" "Well sir, though I have never met him and have nothing against you, the signs seem to point to him being the real Marvis. Forgive me if I am wrong." |
| Demonfey03-20-07, 12:53 AM | "Well, I can say for a fact that he's not. He got too angry, and spat too much." |
| Zombomaniac03-20-07, 12:58 AM | "Well, I can say for a fact that he's not. He got too angry, and spat too much." Brae sighs at the reasoning. "Well I'll say that spitting isn't plesant to look upon, but it doesn't seem like a sound reason for why he is the fake. Truely I would like to believe you." |
| Demonfey03-20-07, 01:04 AM | "Meh. How about the part where the real one is registered with the local bard union?" |
| Zombomaniac03-20-07, 01:17 AM | "Meh. How about the part where the real one is registered with the local bard union?" "Well mabye you should us that as proof, if we ever get out of here." |
| Demonfey03-20-07, 01:52 AM | "First, I need to make them uncertain enough to check." |
| Zombomaniac03-20-07, 01:54 AM | "First, I need to make them uncertain enough to check." "If there as any way I can aid just ask. If nothing else it will help to pass the time and I will get to learn more about you friend." |
| Demonfey03-20-07, 02:08 AM | "You have yet to share anything about yourself, Lady." |
| Zombomaniac03-20-07, 10:53 AM | "Never was good at sharing as a child. Well Marxis I haven't simply becuase there is little to share. I was raised by Druids in the forests and I have no love for the city. Sorry to say, but that is the story of my life." (OOC: Ya she has no life.;) ) |
| Wilds03-20-07, 11:56 AM | Alth watches the arrival in silence. He notes the new comer to the area. |
| Dyne03-21-07, 05:12 PM | Sireon smiles when he sees the prince and stands from his seat. He stretches and heads over toward the procession. Once it has stopped he steps out from the crowd and grins, bowing elaborately to Prince William. "Ah, greetings my lord... it is good to see you here, of course it would be better were you a fair princess... but what can one do!?" Prince William III laughs at his friend. "Well, you know my family's reputation for bearing daughters. It has promted some to claim that the royal line is somehow enchanted to produce a disproportionate number of sons. But, at least there is always an heir to the throne." He dismounts his steed, which is led away to the stables by a servant. "How goes your training of knighthood, my friend? It has been some time since we last met, before I had to leave to handle the problem with Orc raiders." |

"Forgive my lateness Senator, I was held up in the forests, have I missed anything out of the ordinary?" (OOC: All the while my PC has Detect Evil going. If he sees any one evil just post it or PM my please. There race and class are known. :) ) The senator smiles at the paladin that will represent him in the festival. "Glad you could make it, for a moment I feared I would be without a champion. I'm afraid you missed a rather outstanding performance by the Ruby Theater Acting Troupe, illustrating the humble origins of our founder and first king Richard I." |
| Sssargoth03-21-07, 07:30 PM | Orn looks over to the procession, before getting up from his seat and wandering over. Upon hearing Serion's comment he gets a wicked glint in his eye. "Well, we could always make him look like a fair princess. I'm sure he'd be quite the head-turner too." |

"Then truely I have missed much for I have always enjoyed the Ruby Theater. I do so rarely get to see them." |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-22-07, 12:57 PM | Prince William III laughs at his friend. It has been some time since we last met, before I had to leave to handle the problem with Orc raiders." "My training goes well enough, though I do wish some of those I train with would put a little... finesse into their fighting. Swinging wildly and hacking away with a sword seems so... barbaric. But, I suppose we shall see if my training has paid off when I take to the field! I do hope I don't disappoint. But, how did your tangle with the orcs go? Well I must assume." Sireon smiles and waves his hands about as he talks, patting his rapier at the mention of finesse. He shrugs his shoulders and sighs, smiling at the prince once he has finished. |
| NightScreamer2003-22-07, 03:05 PM | Arthur looks up and smiles, seeing the few humans he met the other night at the bar... along with, wait a tick, is that Prince William? He must go check this out! Making his way towards them he pauses before interupting. "Sireon! Orn! Good to see you fellows after that dismal party last ni... Oh!" Arthur takes to a small bow. "Prince William, I apologize for my interuption, I didn't see you standing there!" |
| CaptainShar03-22-07, 09:27 PM | Reg takes up similar discourse with one of Rozzel's servants; again looking for an acrobatically built fellow or girl with whom to discuss the upcoming contests. | Dyne03-22-07, 09:46 PM | Reg takes up similar discourse with one of Rozzel's servants; again looking for an acrobatically built fellow or girl to discuss with which to discuss the upcoming contests. (I don't know how I keep missing these posts. Sorry about that.) The servant stares at Reg with a blank, bored look. "I will not be competing in the Founder's Cup as I was not selected as a champion. However, there will be a few booths set up in the Merchants Quarter for small contests in commemoration of the festival. A few of us were going to head down there when our duties are finished here." (If you're trying to make friends, roll a Diplomacy check.) |
| CaptainShar03-22-07, 10:13 PM | Mind telling me where they are? I'd like to join you when the formal contests are over. (Diplomacy checks added to my previous post.) |
| Demonfey03-22-07, 10:31 PM | As he waits for an idea, Marxis looks around at the prison, figuring out what he has to work with. |
| Sssargoth03-24-07, 12:27 AM | (I don't know how I keep missing these posts. Sorry about that.) (And you wonder why I dont post alot. Then again I should probably use a different color when talking IC.) |
| Wilds03-24-07, 12:33 PM | Alth walks over to stand behind Reg to the right slightly. He nods to Reg and looks around. OOC: my char isnt good at communication, sry |
| Dyne03-25-07, 04:54 PM | "Then truely I have missed much for I have always enjoyed the Ruby Theater. I do so rarely get to see them." The senator nods in agreement. "Aye, they are my favorite group of performers. We were actually planning to head over to the Ruby Theater later today for a show. You are welcome to join us, if you wish." Mind telling me where they are? I'd like to join you when the formal contests are over. (Diplomacy checks added to my previous post.) "I'm sure there will be several in the Grand Marketplace. The Pavilion will most likely be hosting a few special events of its own, as it does every year." (Rualon's servant is indifferent. Rozzel's servant [the one you're talking to currently] is friendly.) As he waits for an idea, Marxis looks around at the prison, figuring out what he has to work with. (I'll get to this in a little bit. I'll get you a detailed description of the prison, and perhaps from it you'll be able to formulate an escape plan.) Orn looks over to the procession, before getting up from his seat and wandering over. Upon hearing Serion's comment he gets a wicked glint in his eye. "Well, we could always make him look like a fair princess. I'm sure he'd be quite the head-turner too." The prince raises an eyebrow in Orn's direction. "I'm sure that won't be necessary, thanks." "My training goes well enough, though I do wish some of those I train with would put a little... finesse into their fighting. Arthur looks up and smiles, seeing the few humans he met the other night at the bar... along with, wait a tick, is that Prince William? He must go check this out! Making his way towards them he pauses before interupting. "Sireon! Orn! Good to see you fellows after that dismal party last ni... Oh!" Arthur takes to a small bow. "Prince William, I apologize for my interuption, I didn't see you standing there!" Prince William gives a short bow in acknowledgment of Arthur. "No worries, friend." In answer to Sireon's question, he then begins to recount the events of his mission. "The expedition to counter the Orc pillagers went as well as could be expected. We quickly found their camp in the forest, as they made little attempt to conceal it. Their warriors met us with aggression, but we had the advantages of number and skill. The deaths they caused were avenged, and we rescued several hostages in the process. We also recovered much of the goods they pilfered, as well as some additional loot." As he rambles on, a carriage rolls into the courtyard, the guard bowing to admit it. High-pitched voices can be heard arguing within as it draws nearer, and suddenly what sounds like a small explosion. One of the doors opens, and a dark-haired Gnome, with a scar under his left eye and a scowl on his face, steps out of the carriage. He is followed by a similar-looking Gnome, this one with light-brown hair and seeming much more personable. The dark-haired Gnome smokes on his pipe as the pair scuttle toward the group around Prince William. The light-haired Gnome pleads with him, "But brother, it was only a joke." As he says this, smoke shoots out from the dark-haired Gnome's ears. "It was in extremely poor taste, brother." He continues to scowl and smoke on his pipe as they walk. They stop before Prince William, and they bow in unison. "Your royal highness," they say together. "Senator Fitzwinkle at your service, sir," says the light-haired one. "And Senator Winklefitz," says the still-scowling dark-haired one. Fitzwinkle fidgets slightly in nervousness, and Winklefitz's eye starts to twitch. The two half-twins were infamous for not getting along with each other. Fitzwinkle was a fast talker, with a quick wit that sometimes got himself in trouble. His brass dragon heritage made him a friendly and sociable Gnome, in contrast to his half-twin. Winklefitz, on the other hand, was stern, serious, and ill-tempered, and he was always frustrated at people "fooling around". (Introducing the noble patrons of Orn Sauriv and Arthur. Fitzwinkle [the friendly one] is the patron of Orn, and Winklefitz [the grumpy one] is the patron of Arthur.) (And you wonder why I dont post alot. Then again I should probably use a different color when talking IC.) (Excuses, excuses. I haven't even skipped any of yours yet. If I've missed any posts that you guys want me to respond to, let me know.) |
| CaptainShar03-25-07, 05:07 PM | Excellent. Truth be told, I enjoy a little competition amongst friends more than all this formality - although I do admit it does get one a better audience. Reg looks around at the crowds pouring into the stadium area. Any of the competitions in the Pavilion which reward style over brute strength? |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-26-07, 10:24 PM | "A well deserved victory, I am sure. Well fought too I might suspect with the royal knights at your side eh? Orcs... to think what those poor hostages might have had to deal with. Ah, but your actions were swift and they were spared such terrible fate. That, I am sure, we can all be thankful for." Sireon waves a hand about dramaticly as he speaks, then when he is finished her turns toward Arthur."Ah, hello again. You left just before a great deal more trouble found its way into our midst. Apparently, some man had been impersonating Marxis. What he was attempting, who knows. But he is locked away in the dungeon for his deception!" |
| Sssargoth03-26-07, 11:25 PM | Great... I wonder who he blew up this time. Well, better at least say hi. Orn bows quickly to senator Fitzwinkle before addressing him. "Ah, senator Fitzwinkle, I'm...uh...not getting dragged into whatever that explosion was about... Anyway, I see your doing as well as always, and I could use your oppinion on something. Serion here, just a minute ago, said that the prince would make a very beutiful princess, and I happen to agree with him. Unfortunately Sir William doesn't seem to share our oppinion. So, what do you think? Would he, or wouldn't he make a beutiful princess?" |
| Faithful_One03-27-07, 12:29 AM | The senator nods in agreement. "Aye, they are my favorite group of performers. We were actually planning to head over to the Ruby Theater later today for a show. You are welcome to join us, if you wish." "As always you are a gracious patron, Senator. I would be honored to join you.” "Ah, hello again. You left just before a great deal more trouble found its way into our midst. Apparently, some man had been impersonating Marxis. What he was attempting, who knows. But he is locked away in the dungeon for his deception!" Over hearing this bit Ausric noticably cranes his head his head. "Impersonation?" Turning back to his honored Patron Ausric gives a curt bow. "Forgive me Senator, but I must take my leave for the moment." Turning and heading the short distance to the Knight Ausric gives a deep bow to the Prince. "It is an honor and a joy to see you returned Majesty and forgive me rudeness, but I must ask this fine sir if what he said about impersonation is true." |
| Skull_of_Shadow03-27-07, 12:16 PM | Richard hops out of his seat finally and trots up to Senator Rozzel. He waves reaching a short distance away and jumps the last few steps. "Heya boss! Good of ya ta show up, but you coulda been here yesterday. I coulda used some support and someone to stab a crazy elf that apparently was offended by my wondrous compliments! Bah, elves. Also, I never got my baby ribs. Ah well! So boss, whats the news, what're we doing, and do you think those gnomes over there make funny little poping sounds when they explode?" Richard semi-whispers the last part, leaving in uncomfortably close and smelling an awful lot like sulfer and other various chemicals used in his line of work. |
| Wilds03-27-07, 03:14 PM | Alth walks over to the two senators (if able). "Greetings cousins. I did not expect to see fellow gnomes among the elite here" |
| Dyne04-12-07, 11:26 PM | A wagon comes riding down the road at great speed, and as it turns a corner, one of the barrels it was carrying falls out and spills over the ground. Out comes a bushel of gold coins, and a crowd swarms around the money, trying to gather as much as they can. The fastest ones make off with the most. (Roll a Dexterity check, and you gain that many gold coins. Something to keep y'all occupied.) |
| Sssargoth04-12-07, 11:39 PM | Orn is one of the first to pounce on the spilled gold, and manages to grab a fair ammount before the crowd gets too big. Dex check: 14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=972240) |
| CaptainShar04-13-07, 12:21 AM | Dexterity: 10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=972371) Reg jumps into the press of people and fills both hands with the gold, stuffing it into his boots before emerging from the throng. |
| Faithful_One04-13-07, 09:02 AM | Ausric makes no move to gain the fallen gold and obviously disapproves of their unlawful collection of gold. |
| CaptainShar04-13-07, 03:52 PM | Reg notices the disapproving stranger, blends into the crowd again, and reemerges with the gold in his hands again. Paladin, huh? You just have that look. You know, it'd be a lot easier to return that gold to its owner if you'd grabbed some when it fell. But here - Reg holds out two handfuls of coins, four in each hand, and drops them into the Paladin's - You probably know who this belongs to better than I do. My name's Reg, by the way. What's yours? |
| Wilds04-14-07, 10:08 AM | Alth turns his head and watches the gold fall, contemplation crosses his face but he remains where he stands. Showing obvious greed in front of these nobles would be bad. |
| Zombomaniac04-14-07, 03:55 PM | In her jail cell Brae is taking a nap. |
| Faithful_One04-14-07, 11:12 PM | Ausric hands the gold back to Reg. "I am Ausric Faith, Reg. And keep the gold. I am sorry for my rudeness; I simply don't know how to act around others sometimes." He visibly sighs. "Besides I won't be able to find who owned that gold and with how some of our nobles handle their money they'll likely never even know it was missing." |
| CaptainShar04-15-07, 12:16 AM | So why not do yourself some good if it's not going to harm them? Reg tucks seven of the pieces into his money pouch. Keep one, at least, for good luck. See? It's got a little nob by the king's left ear. My mom always said that was good luck, if a coin had a scratch or a stain or something by the head's left ear. So, who's your patron? |
| Skull_of_Shadow04-15-07, 02:07 PM | Richard leaps through the air and dives beneath other as he slides across the ground. He grabs as many coins as possible and stuffs them in any pocket or bag he has available at the moment, rolling around from stop to spot and gathering coinage. Dex Check: 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=977956) Yeeaaaaah... natural 20... badass. |
| Dyne04-15-07, 03:41 PM | (Still waiting on Orcy, Nightscreamer, and Turalisj before we can continue.... While we're waiting, everyone [that's not locked up in a cell] select which square your character is standing in: Map (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/CityIntersection.jpg) Little brown squares are crowds of people, big brown squares are wagons, tan squares are the road, gray squares are buildings. All rules for crowds [from DMG2] apply [you can stand in a square with a crowd, but movement costs are doubled and you gain cover. Also, -2 penalty on attack rolls, Reflex saving throws, and all skill checks that are affected by armor check penalties, and you lose Dex bonus to AC. Also counts as "vigorous motion" for spellcasting (DC 10 Concentration check). If the crowd moves, you may also be forced to move with it.]) |
| Sssargoth04-15-07, 04:13 PM | Orn at O10, since I'm asuming that the large crowd is where the gold spilled. |
| CaptainShar04-15-07, 04:26 PM | L7, sittin' on the edge of the wagon so I can see above the people's heads. Also, I ought to be near Ausric, because we were talking. |
| Faithful_One04-16-07, 12:29 AM | Ill go with L8. Ausric takes the coins with a smile. "The Senator Rualon is my honored patron and your's, Reg?" |
| CaptainShar04-16-07, 12:59 AM | Felnan. Just looking him over, though, he seems a little odd. I've been trying to speak with some of the other nobles' servants to see if I can find out what's going on with him. But, I suppose a humble dockman can't be choosy. What's your trade? Something churchy? |
| Wilds04-16-07, 07:28 PM | OOC: where might the senator's my character is attempting to converse with? |
| Dyne04-16-07, 10:22 PM | OOC: where might the senator's my character is attempting to converse with? (Hmm.... *Goes and edits the map* Green area. Pick a spot Thick black lines are walls, thick brown lines are doors) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-16-07, 11:35 PM | Sireon shakes his head and watches the crowd gathering to take up the gold. He stands back and looks towards the prince frowning. "It would seem old friend, that the people are eager to gather themselves some free money. Disgraceful I must say. But I suppose not all are willing to work hard for that which they are given." Sireon does not go for any coins, he'll be standing beside William, wherever William may be. |
| Faithful_One04-18-07, 03:10 PM | Felnan. Just looking him over, though, he seems a little odd. I've been trying to speak with some of the other nobles' servants to see if I can find out what's going on with him. But, I suppose a humble dockman can't be choosy. What's your trade? Something churchy? I do try to spread the faith as I am able, but I primarily patrol the forests and aid my mother in the caring of any ingured beings, man or beast, that come under her charge. |
| CaptainShar04-18-07, 04:30 PM | Country boy at heart? I know I was born at sea and I've never gotten the sound of the waves out of my head. You work for your mum? Same here - my parents own Sweetwater Shipwrights. What's your mum's name, and why does she live out in the forest? |
| Wilds04-19-07, 02:40 AM | Alth is at J18 |
| Faithful_One04-19-07, 02:32 PM | "And here I thought it was Gnomes that always asked question. Or was it Halflings?" Asruc give a good hearted smile making it obvious he is only joking. "My mother, Maria, and father, Ausric Senior, both live out on the edge of the forest running a healing house for the settlements outside of the Capital. We also sell hunting goods and often patrol the forests. The settlements pay us for every monster we sight, extra if we kill it." |
| CaptainShar04-19-07, 04:41 PM | Well, if you'd rather just watch the greedy riff-raff, I'm happy to oblige. I've been wondering if I can climb this wall, anyhow. (Dyne, how hard is it to climb the building next to the wagon?) But no, thanks for the info. If I'm ever roaming around outside the city, I'll be glad your folks are there. (Hopefully sitting on the roof by now.) What competitions are you going to enter? |
| Dyne04-20-07, 05:23 PM | (Dyne, how hard is it to climb the building next to the wagon?) (Climb DC 20) |
| Demonfey04-20-07, 05:34 PM | Meanwhile, Marxis pokes at the bars of his cell while waiting for an idea on how to get out. |
| CaptainShar04-21-07, 01:26 AM | Reg is indeed sitting on the roof, closest square to where he was. Climb: 23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=990652) |
| Dyne04-21-07, 02:03 PM | Suddenly, four men with weapons appear at the scene, surrounding the crowd that is still swarming over the gold. They all wear filthy clothes and have a rather nasty appearance, and each carries a different weapon: one uses a longsword, another a rapier, a third wields a dagger, and the last holds a staff. "Hand over the gold," the one with the dagger demands. "In fact, throw in all your valuables as well, while you're at it." The one with the sword chimes in, "Do it! Or we smash your face in!" He brandishes his sword, threateningly. "And if you expect the guards to help you," the rapier-wielding bandit exclaims, "I'm afraid you will be sorely disappointed. They are rather distracted at the moment by a few friends of ours." (Everybody roll initiative. Here's where everyone is: Beauregard - J7 (on the roof) Ausric - L8 Orn - O10 Alth - J18 Sireon - J19 Prince William - J20 Winklefitz - K19 Fitzwinkle - K20 Staff Thug - N5 Knife Thug - N6 Rapier Thug - J10 Sword Thug - R10) |
| CaptainShar04-21-07, 02:46 PM | Reg hops to his feet. Initiative: 14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=991477) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-21-07, 03:06 PM | Sireon blinks and turns towards the commotion, reaching down and placing his hand on the hilt of his rapier. "I'm afraid you'll find that you've made a very poor choice gentlemen. I assure you, you will be lying upon the very ground on which you now stand soon enough." Initiative: 12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=991512) |
| Sssargoth04-21-07, 03:13 PM | Orn looks around at the bums making demands, and shakes his head. "Y'know, with a tone like that I'd almost think y'all were serious, but if ya were serious, you woulda tried taken the price over there hostage. Init: 7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=991492) |

| Wilds04-22-07, 12:46 PM | Alth hears the commotion and suddenly becomes focused. He bows to the senators looks around. Int 23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=993052) |
| Dyne04-22-07, 04:54 PM | (The initiative order is this: Alth Beauregard Knife Thug Rapier Thug Sword Thug Sireon Orn Staff Thug Ausric Alth's turn is up) |
| Wilds04-22-07, 08:21 PM | NOTE: edited due to dynes post after this one Alth walks up behind the bystanders at M15. He looks around them and sees 2 of the assailants. He pulls out his shortbow and watches. "You people better get moving" he says to the people in front of him. |
| CaptainShar04-22-07, 08:32 PM | Reg pulls out his sling and takes a shot at the fellow holding the rapier. He uses the height to his advantage, preparing to send a series of small but accurate little metal balls down at the man. Attack: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=993964) Damage: 1 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=993969) He also smiles to himself, knowing that none of them can reach him. |
| Dyne04-22-07, 08:42 PM | Alth walks up behind the wagon at M15. He crouches behind wagon preparing to climb it, he drops his backpack under the wagon wheel. (now not encumbered) (Umm, you're about 10 ft. away from the nearest wagon. M15 is next to a pair of pedestrians. EDIT: I just edited the map, to prevent confusion. Bystanders are now orange.) |
| Wilds04-23-07, 06:48 PM | ooc: i modified my post above as too not cause confusion to me going twice |
| Dyne04-24-07, 01:51 AM | The rapier-wielding bandit growls in annoyance as Beauregard's bullet is slung at him. He sheathes his blade, drawing a crossbow instead. The knife-wielding bandit adopts a defensive stance, weapon at the ready. "It's not worth the trouble, folks, just hand over the goods and we'll be on our way." He waves the dagger back and forth in front of him, pointing at each person in front of him. The sword-wielding thug forms a similar stance, sword held defensively in front of him. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-27-07, 05:03 PM | "Hah! I think not!" Sireon moves into a crouch and launches himself forward, charging across the open ground between him and the sword weilding thug. As he moves he pulls his rapier from it's sheath and brings himself to a stop. Using the momentum of the charge he thrusts his rapier in the mans direction as he stops himself. Attack: 11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1005996) |
| Sssargoth04-28-07, 02:25 AM | Orn shoots at the thug with the rapier before running towards the wall. "Ah! Get a job ya bums." Ranged Touch Attack: 6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1007087)... Moving to P14. |
| Dyne04-30-07, 10:32 PM | (I'm assuming Orcy moved to R11) The staff-wielding thug glares at the fools who resist their peaceful offer. Weapon in hand, he rushes across the street to where Orn stands, deftly swinging his staff at the silver-browed human. However, the warlock dodges out of the way at last second, and the stick slams into the cobblestone road instead. (The thug moved to O13) (Ausric's turn. At the end of the round please wait, because the pedestrians/wagons may move.) EDIT: (I nearly missed this. Ranged weapons do not benefit from a height advantage, only melee weapons do. As such, Beauregard's attack barely misses the bandit.) |
| Faithful_One05-01-07, 09:29 AM | "You will not take this cart, Thieves." Ausric takes a defensive stance and prepares for the thugs’ attacks. |
| Dyne05-02-07, 12:53 AM | Frightened by the threats of the bandits, the crowd splits up, every man fleeing for his life and possessions. Other passersby are oblivious to what is going on, and continue about their way. (New Map (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/CityIntersection2.jpg) Red squares are PC's, blue squares are bandits. It is now Alth's turn.) |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-02-07, 11:19 AM | As the crowds of people flee and part Richard is revealed crouching down. He looks up and spits, seeing that his cover is gone he stands and looks around casually. (Sorry, I've been busy and haven't been on much, just been posting when Orcy jabs me and tells me I'm up in his game...) |
| Dyne05-02-07, 04:20 PM | As the crowds of people flee and part Richard is revealed crouching down. He looks up and spits, seeing that his cover is gone he stands and looks around casually. (Sorry, I've been busy and haven't been on much, just been posting when Orcy jabs me and tells me I'm up in his game...) (Roll initiative and pick a spot, then.) |
| CaptainShar05-02-07, 04:50 PM | (Methinks Reg is going to jump down soon - how high is the building, and I guess roll a jump check to avoid damage? And would that be a move action?) |
| Dyne05-05-07, 01:11 AM | (Methinks Reg is going to jump down soon - how high is the building, and I guess roll a jump check to avoid damage? And would that be a move action?) (Effectively 10 feet from the roof to the ground. And I believe it would be a move action to jump down, but I could be wrong. Since Skull seems to have disappeared again, just continue on with the round. If he comes back again, maybe he can join in next round, 'cause he is taking way too long. It is now Alth's turn.) |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-06-07, 12:07 AM | Initiative= 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1024453) Yeah yeah, I forgot to roll the thing, I read it but forgot ta actually do the rollin. |
| Dyne05-06-07, 05:02 AM | Initiative= 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1024453) Yeah yeah, I forgot to roll the thing, I read it but forgot ta actually do the rollin. (Lucky everyone else is slow to the draw, or you'd have to wait until next round. You still need to choose what space your character will occupy. New order is: Alth Richard Beauregard Knife Thug Rapier Thug Sword Thug Sireon Orn Staff Thug Ausric Alth's turn is still up. If I log in tomorrow morning to see that nothing has progressed, I might be tempted to take his turn for him.) |
| Wilds05-06-07, 11:16 AM | Alth steps forward slowly to M13 and turns to face the assailant in O13. He curses something colorful in gnome and fires his shortbow at the man. attack: 16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1025243) damage: 2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1025246) ooc: dont think I sneak attack him and sry dyne |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-07-07, 02:50 AM | (I'd wager I was around Q8 since I'm thinkin that was the most people sittin round there. Round where I grabbed me a buncha them coins to. So yeah.) Richard screeches like a banshee and cowers. He then stops and blinks, standing up and pointing at the sword weilding thug. "Wait a second, I've got magic! Why am I cowering!" A ray of sickly green light leaps from his finger toward the sword weilding bandit! Striking him in the chest unless he has a great deal of swiftness about him. Ranged Touch: 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1026862) Enfeeblement: 2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1026865) (lousy 1s...) |
| CaptainShar05-07-07, 03:58 PM | Reg taunts the rapier/crossbow thug: Oops again! as he dives off the building, tucking into a quick roll and coming up completely unhurt and with rapier out. Tumble (DC 15): 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1028300) J8, ground level |
| Dyne05-07-07, 06:08 PM | The apparent leader of the band steps around the wagon, facing Ausric. "Think yer brave, eh? Don't worry, I'll give you a death worth remembering." He stabs at the paladin with his dagger, but the attack is easily blocked with his shield. He then watches Ausric's movements, preparing to dodge his counter-attack. (Moved to M8) The thug in front of Beauregard takes aim with his crossbow and fires at the Halfling. Unfortunately, the bolt releases wrong and flies harmlessly into the wall a good distance away. Frustrated, he puts the crossbow away (hanging from a strap on his shoulder) and prepares for melee. The sword-wielding thug lets Sireon's attack harmlessly graze his hide armor, retaliating with an attack of his own. The blade slashes through the air, nearly chopping into the knight-in-training's neck. However, Sireon barely shifts away, causing the blade to cut into his shoulder instead (11 damage). He gasps from the wound, realizing how close he had just come to getting beheaded. (Sireon's turn) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-07-07, 06:25 PM | Sireon shouts in anger, he grips his wound with his free hand and stares at the swordsman infront of him as he shifts position. His stance has shifted to be noticibly more defensive oriented and he moves to strike his opponent when he is the most open. Watching carefully before thrusting forward. His attack however, lacks much of the force he needs. Attack: 10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1028550) (Using combat expertise for -2/+2, AC is now 21... actually, nevermind that. Theres that BAB limit, so its an 8... because I'll have to fight defensively to get that +2) |
| Dyne05-09-07, 11:26 PM | (If Sssargoth does not take his turn soon, I may be tempted to take it for him. And from now on, if someone delays for 2 days or so, they will miss out on their turn. This game is getting way too bogged down.) |
| Sssargoth05-10-07, 01:59 AM | Orn uses spiderwalk and full retreats up the wall. (Sorry about the delay, didn't realize it was my turn. Also can we just assume from now on that he uses his beificial invocations, like spiderwalk when he wakes up since they usually last for 24 hours.) |
| Dyne05-10-07, 04:10 PM | (Sorry about the delay, didn't realize it was my turn. Also can we just assume from now on that he uses his beificial invocations, like spiderwalk when he wakes up since they usually last for 24 hours.) (Sure. Invocations with 24 hour durations are basically continuous effects.) The staff wielding bandit turns his attention to Alth, spinning his weapon with great prowess as he approaches the gnome. He releases a flurry of attacks, one barely striking Alth on the arm. (4 damage to Alth, and it is Ausric's turn. Map will once again be updated at the end of the round. P.S. I forgot to calculate in Richard's Ray of Enfeeblement spell. Sireon should've taken only 10 damage from the thug's attack.) |
| Faithful_One05-10-07, 11:29 PM | Ausric gives a glance toward Alth and seeing his new friend injured Ausric begins battle with a vigor launching his axe at the lead bandit. Attack roll: 22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1035695) (dang almost a crit) Damage: 9 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1035698) |
| Zombomaniac05-10-07, 11:31 PM | (OOC: Ya know -- this could go by faster with, I don't know, another PC fighting. Mabye a Druid perhaps?:P Just making sure you all know I am still here.;) ) |
| Dyne05-12-07, 01:22 AM | The streets shift around once more as people go on their way. Wagons push their way past the skirmish, intent on getting to their destination regardless of a few fools getting in their way. (Map (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/CityIntersection3.jpg) Order is still as follows: Alth (M13) Richard (Q8) Beauregard (J8) Knife Thug (M8) Rapier Thug (J10) Sword Thug (R10) Sireon (R11) Orn (P14) Staff Thug (O13) Ausric (L8)) |
| Zombomaniac05-15-07, 09:31 PM | (ooc: So who's turn is it?) |
| Dyne05-15-07, 09:39 PM | (ooc: So who's turn is it?) (Alth's. It's the beginning of the round, and the order is right above you.) |
| Dyne05-16-07, 05:55 PM | Alth hesitates, wasting his chance to act. (Richard's turn. Wilds took way too long.) |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-16-07, 06:08 PM | "Ouch, that... that just had to hurt. Though I do applaud your use of a sharp weapon to hurt things... well, yes, I applaud it! But I'm going to hurt you anyway." Richard hums a tune and yanks a bottle off his belt. He holds out his hand and begins speaking arcane words. Then with a might rushing of robes the flask flies from his hand... as he pulls back and throws it. "Dramatic!" Flask Attack!: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1049421) Acid Damage!: 4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1049438) |
| Dyne05-16-07, 06:14 PM | (Beauregard's turn. Also, the knife thug was killed by Ausric. Ignore the blue square at M8.) |
| Faithful_One05-16-07, 11:57 PM | [ music] Go Ausric! Go Ausric! It's you birthday! Got your first kill!:D [/music ] |
| CaptainShar05-18-07, 05:57 PM | Reg runs up to the now again rapier-weilding thug, and takes a stab at him with his smaller rapier. I win! Attack: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1054180) Damage: 5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1054183) |
| Dyne05-19-07, 02:38 PM | The bandit pulls Beauregard's rapier out of his side, stumbling from the wound. He tries to counter with a slash of his own blade, but the small Halfling easily dodges out of the way. The sword-wielding thug turns his attention away from Sireon, instead turning to face Richard. He takes a step forward, chopping down at the alchemist, but his clumsy strike goes astray. (5 ft. step to R9) (Sireon's turn) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-19-07, 11:06 PM | Sireon steps forward as well, taking the opportunity while the man is partially distracted to thrust his blade into the man's side. "Do not turn your back upon your foe fool!" 5ft step to R10 and attack Attack: 16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1056519) Damage (assuming a hit): 6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1056528) |
| Dyne05-19-07, 11:32 PM | The thug collapses to the ground, unconscious from the wound. (Orn's turn) |
| Sssargoth05-20-07, 12:55 AM | Orn, from his position on the wall takes a shot at the rapier wielding thug across the square, but his shot goes wide. |
| Dyne05-20-07, 11:11 PM | The staff-wielding brute attacks the Alth once again. The first swing finds its mark, slamming into his shoulder. (2 damage to Alth. It is Ausric's turn, and then it will be the end of the round.) |
| Faithful_One05-22-07, 08:56 AM | Ausric moves from his downed opponent and takes up battle beside his Halfling ally. Move to beside the rapier-weilding thug. (K10) Attack of oppertunity from him? If I am still able to attack: 20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1061075) damage: 6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1061078) |
| Dyne05-22-07, 10:54 PM | (No attack of opportunity. You didn't actually pass through his threatened space, you merely entered it.) The bandit is impaled upon the paladin's sword axe, taking one last breath before falling lifeless. Seeing that he is greatly outnumbered, the last remaining thug flees the scene, and the fight is over. "Bravo! Bravo!" says the prince, applauding. The other spectators of the battle cheer the heroics of this band of adventurers. "Such heroics," the prince continues, "should not go unrewarded." He adds some coins to the cups of Alth, Ausric, Beauregard, Orn, Richard, and Sireon, which then each read "Score: 100 gp." The other challengers for the Founder's Cup scowl, but do nothing. "A nice start for the competition. But yes, the competition is waiting; we should be heading to the arena about now." (100 XP to each participant of the battle +20 XP to Ausric, Richard, and Sireon for outstanding combat performance [AKA kicking major butt] +10 XP to Alth and Beauregard for excellent combat performance -10 XP to Richard for arriving to the battle late [you missed one full round of missed attacks! ;) ] +10 XP to Ausric and Beauregard for good roleplaying +1 honor to Alth, Ausric, and Sireon And now, we have a period of RP/chitchat while I take care of Zombo and Demonfey [which I should have done earlier, but I didn't think of it]) |
| Wilds05-22-07, 11:32 PM | Alth bows the prince and walks over to pick up his pack. He then returns to where he started. Looking around at the others, "....soooo that was new...." |
| CaptainShar05-23-07, 08:38 PM | Reg picks up the rapier from the thug and looks at it. Too big for me to use, oh well. I just don't appreciate anyone crowding my style. He kicks at the body a bit. Poor guy. And thank you, oh Prince William! Are we allowed to look these fellows over, or have you got somone else on cleanup duty? Reg looks at the other combatants, many of whom he noticed the day before. He's happy to see that Alth carried himself well. To Ausric: I do all the stunts and then you get the killing blow? Ah well, I suppose that's fair. |
| Faithful_One05-24-07, 01:23 AM | (OOC: Ausric uses a Axe not a sword. ) Ausric inspects all of the bodies to see if any still life (if any are I'll roll a Heal check to save them). He gives a brief prayer over those who have died and then moves to see if any one still living was hurt (once again I will roll a Heal check if it will help). |
| Dyne05-24-07, 02:01 AM | Prince William nods. "There are no objections; it is law that the one who brings an outlaw to justice may claim his belongings for his own." (OOC: Ausric uses a Axe not a sword. ) (Edited. Is that better? :P ) |
| Faithful_One05-24-07, 09:01 AM | (Edited. Is that better? :P ) (Yes, thank you.:D ) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-24-07, 01:00 PM | Sireon sheaths his sword and shakes off his combat stance. He moves to stretch but cannot manage it, wincing and gripping his wound. Looking down at the sword slash that left a mighty cut in his side, Sireon looks up toward the Prince. "Thank you Sir... but.. would it be terribly too much to ask... for a cleric?" |
| Wilds05-24-07, 02:13 PM | "Yes" Alth says his head jumping up, "how much would a cleric require for healing?" |
| CaptainShar05-24-07, 09:20 PM | Reg goes through the pockets of the rapier thug, and holds on to the rapier as well. He moves to the sword thug after that, if someone else hasn't gotten to it. |
| Dyne05-24-07, 10:29 PM | "Ah yes, of course." He calls one of his priests over. "Albert, you will see to the wounds of these two heroic adventurers." The priest bows to the prince, then begins using his healing magic on Sireon and Alth. Rummaging through the corpses, Beauregard acquires a light crossbow, 10 crossbow bolts, a dagger, and 13 gold pieces. |
| Faithful_One05-24-07, 10:30 PM | Ausric searches the bodies of the dead for anything unusual. Otherwise he takes nothing from them. |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-25-07, 02:06 PM | Richard does a little jig of victory, skipping and dancing about, he then ends the jig by stomping on the halfling's hand when he reaches towards the swordsman's body. "You eh... tryin ta take something that rightfully belongs to ME... shorty?" |
| CaptainShar05-25-07, 10:42 PM | Reg looks around for the attention and approval of the spectators: An injury and a name-calling, eh? Two counts of provocation? I believe a duel is most certainly in order, here, pleasing your Highness. Reg backs away, bows, and settles into a duelling stance, keeping his rapier sheathed until the combat is legitimized, however. He has a hand resting on the grip. |
| Dyne05-26-07, 02:54 AM | Ausric does not find anything that seems unusual on the bandit corpses. They seem to have been a group of perfectly normal rabble. The prince seems taken aback, but he nods at Beauregard Sweetwater. "If both of you agree to it, a duel is a perfectly legal and civil way to settle a disagreement in Aervenia. That is, if both of you agree to it." He looks to Richard for confirmation. |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-26-07, 09:43 AM | Richard pops a stick into his mouth and holds onto it with his teeth. Pulling a leather ball out of his bag he tosses it between his hands and cackles. "Well ya little runt thief, you wanna go eh? Ain't name callin when yer tryin ta take that what ain't yours. You may have had a part with the other one, but this one was me and ol pointy there. So thief..." Richard tugs a small bit of what appears to be candle wick out of the leather ball and grins madly. "Hope you don't mind... there won't be much of you left! Gather round folks, but not too close, this is going to be loud and flashy! Cover your ears and ya might want a tarp, theres gonna be midget bits a-flying!" |
| CaptainShar05-26-07, 08:50 PM | That's right, everybody, stand back a little. Going to be some flashy fighting, all right. If you're ready with your, eh, string there, then En Garde! Init: 12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1069051) Position: (Why don't you assign positions, Dyne, since the flow of the people and the indication of the prince would determine things like that?) |
| Wilds05-26-07, 10:57 PM | Alth bows to the priest in gratitude. When the provocations start flying he steps back to watch. |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-27-07, 01:03 AM | Richard raises an eyebrow at the halflings continued insistance on battle, he cackles and grins at the bomb in his hand. His attention isn't on the fight though and he moves very slow... Init: 4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1069373) (My worst damn roll of the game so far, unless you count the enfeeblement) |
| Dyne05-27-07, 01:13 AM | Prince William directs the grounds for the duel, and a crowd gathers around to watch. (Map (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/DuelField.jpg) Beauregard goes first. Richard is the blue square, Beauregard the red square.) |
| Faithful_One05-27-07, 12:15 PM | Ausric stands to the side and watches the duel unfold. "Let this be a just and fair duel, Gentlemen." |
| CaptainShar05-27-07, 07:06 PM | Reg whips out his rapier and charges straight toward Richard, thrusting quickly forward and puncturing a lung. His blade flashes red in the sunlight as he withdraws it from Richard's chest. Location: C18 Attack: 26 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1070440) crit threat Confirm: 27 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1070443) nat 20 Confirm: 8 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1070512) nat 1 (Whoops...added 2 to each of those because of the charge. Not that it made any difference.) Damage: 2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1070446), 5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1070515) Total: 7 |
| Zombomaniac05-28-07, 02:41 PM | Can we continue the duel? I want to see it end.:D |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-29-07, 02:14 AM | (What battle? I'm a damn wizard and of course, the only way to one hit me was with a crit, but lo and behold, a damned crit. Just my damn luck isn't it? The only damn way I can get one hit by reg, and there it is!) Richard blinks and looks down at the sword sticking out of his chest. He looks up and coughs a few times. "Nobody.. said we were... starting yet." Richard falls forward onto the ground bleeding. (Here I was thinking, "oh, I should be fine, the only way I can get one hit is with that crit and what are the chances of that in the first round?" well look at this ********! Its a ****ing crit! Ugh... shoulda seen it comin with the damned 2 on initiative.) |
| Dyne05-29-07, 03:40 AM | The prince nods to Beauregard. "The winner of this duel is clearly Beauregard Sweetwater. Richard surrenders his claim to the spoils. But since this duel was not decided to be to the death, I'm afraid we will need to quickly see to the Royal Alchemist." He signals to the cleric, who begins to treat Richard's wounds. (Dicebots can be extremely cruel. I sometimes wonder if they are conspiring against me, what with the rolls I often get.) |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-29-07, 02:11 PM | Richard groans and sits up, rubbing the back of his head. "I surrender what? When did we agree that we were dueling for claims to the spoils that I have valid claim to and he has no claim to what-so-ever? I don't recall doing that, nope. Unless the runt stabbing me in the chest while I was unawares knocked some memory out of me. As far as I'm concerned, we were fighting to determine wether or not he was a midget, and he won, so hes not, just a runt. My claim is still wholely valid since I did the fighting against this particular bandit, where he didn't even so much as glance this bandit's way. The fancy man with the sword here, Sireon, he has claim to the spoils, as do I! But theres no right anywhere that I can be seeing where runty here has claim." Richard scoops up the leather ball he dropped and takes a dramatic 'I'm right' pose. |
| CaptainShar05-29-07, 06:57 PM | I'm inclined to go with the prince's ruling...but then again, I'm willing to split the loot with Sireon, wasn't really fighting about that. But a little gold wouldn't go amiss to healing this poor hand of mine you stepped on. And you are NOT to insult me again, unless you like the feel of a poker between your ribs. You provoked the duel; you make some kind of forfeit. Then Reg finally gets around to seeing what's on the sword-bandit, and shows whatever he finds to Sireon. |
| Dyne05-29-07, 07:12 PM | Prince William scratches his head at Richard. "I suppose you are right, hmm. The honor is Beauregard's, but claims to property have been unaltered." (Oops, sorry about that. Beauregard gains +1 Honor for winning, and Richard would lose -1 Honor but he has none, so no change for him.) |
| CaptainShar05-29-07, 07:19 PM | Reg shrugs, and bows to the crowd. Well, that was a nice warm-up. On to the contests, I suppose? |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-29-07, 07:26 PM | Richard tucks away his leather orb and bends over, taking the things from the swordsman out of Reg's hands. He whispers before standing back up. "What would you like what is left of you to be buried in? A jar or a jewelry box?" He smiles and sifts through the items in his hands, humming a tune. (well, what did I just get horribly raped and screwed by the dicebot for? What did the little bugger have?) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-29-07, 07:34 PM | Sireon shakes his head after watching the duel, he appears to be a bit disgusted by the fight as a whole. He too takes a look at the swordsman's things though he doesn't appear to be all to interested in taking the items from the dead man. Still, he examines what Richard holds... primarily so as not to allow him anything thats going to get him in too much trouble. Or at least, too much more trouble. |
| Dyne05-29-07, 07:35 PM | (The dagger and 10 of the 13 gold pieces were found on the swordsman. Also, he had a longsword and scale mail armor. So, the loot distribution is: Beauregard: Rapier, light crossbow, 10 bolts, studded leather armor, 3 gold pieces Richard: Longsword, dagger, scale mail armor, 10 gold pieces) |
| Faithful_One05-29-07, 09:40 PM | Ausric shakes his head, thoroughly disgustated with Ricard's display and pointedly ignoring Ricard's existance. He moves over to Beauregard and gives him a congratulatory pat on the back. "Well fought, friend." As always Ausric has Sense Evil going 24/7. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-29-07, 10:26 PM | "Oh yes, well fought stabbing a wizard in the chest while hes gloating over how well hes going to do in the fight. How courageous and noble of you. In fact, I agree with Richard, not in his manners or ways of doing things, but in his statements of your attempted 'thievery'. In fact, you did nothing to deserve taking the spoils of battle from the swordsman. Yet you approached and attempted to take these things for yourself. If that is not thievery, then sir I know not what would be considered such. Well fought indeed." Sireon shakes his head and takes a share from the items Richard holds. (We'll figure things out amongst ourselves, who gets what) |
| Faithful_One05-30-07, 10:09 AM | "Sir, I suggest you calm yourself and think upon your manners. By the laws of nature all things are first come first serve; survival of the fittest and the fastest. If Richard wanted the spoils then he should have moved to get them as compared to standing idle. It may be the duty of we as good people to see that everyone can live in peace, but it is not our duty to see that certian individuals get 'special' treatment." |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-30-07, 02:41 PM | "Thankfully it is not the laws of nature that I serve. Because that sort of thinking is exactly the kind that leads madmen to become warlods and killers. I serve the laws of this kingdom, and the judgement of the prince himself. Richard makes a good argument, it was he and I that slay the swordsman, and as the prince said 'one who brings an outlaw to justice may claim his belongings.' Not 'one who witnesses an outlaw brought to justice may claim his belongings.' Your first come first serve idea is directly contrary to the laws of the kingdom in this case, Sir. I would thank you kindly to think on the laws and common sense before you take sides on account only of personal opinions on the individuals involved." |
| Wilds05-30-07, 08:49 PM | Alth watches all that has transpired in amusement. Upon seeing the two seeming congratulate themselves on their self righteousness. "Well congratulations to you too for being so noble and righteous. The rest of us are trying to live our lives. Care to make way?" |
| CaptainShar05-30-07, 10:03 PM | Um, thanks? I was just going through their pockets before the crowd trampled over the bodies, nobody else seemed like they were doing anything about them. Maybe you folks are all rich enough you don't care what a poor bandit might own, but I thought it was at least worth seeing what they were carrying. I'm perfectly willing to let other people take a few weapons I can't wield anyway! Reg sticks his hands in his pockets, thoroughly enjoying the attention, but still trying not to make any enemies, well, besides Richard. (All I've put in Reg's inventory is the stuff from the rapier guy.) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder05-30-07, 10:40 PM | Sireon looks over at Alth apparently one hundred percent confused. "I... have no idea what that sort of statement is meant to be other than rude and insulting. My good sir, if that was your goal you've succeded. That was one of the most rediculous, ill thought out, and un-intelligent statements I've ever heard. In no way am I blocking your path, nor am I preventing you from 'living your life' in any form. In fact, I feel my intelligence has lessened merely by listening to it." |
| Wilds05-30-07, 11:25 PM | "If you believe so then that is what you believe. I was merely trying to say that we could be doing something when you arent talking about the law and kingdom and such. Action gets work done, not talk. That and that fight was.....rather boring in my opinion. Too straight forward, not enough sneaking. You know, fun stuff. Just wondering when we can start" |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-31-07, 02:08 AM | "Rich, what makes you think that I'm rich? Oh I know, I look fancy and smell wonderful, but really I'm not that rich. I guess tall things might look rich because they're so much bigger than you. It must be hard looking up everyone's nose. Which reminds me, is there anything up there, I'd check but it would be rude in this company. Ya know, Alf... if you were a wizard who was caught unaware by a runt with a sword, you'd get stabbed pretty good too. These things happen when lunatics try to steal what you've rightfully earned. Little thieves, but I'm sure you'd fit right in wouldn't you? Sneaking talk and all that. You should move away from me, I find anything missing I'll bury you in a shoe box." |
| Wilds05-31-07, 08:11 PM | "Alf? What do you think I am? An Elf?! I am a whisper gnome, which doesnt bode well for you wizard, so dont push it. I have better things to do than to bother my self with petty fighting over loot from foes like that. Idiots I tell you, they charged into an event the Prince was known to be at. Not smart if you ask me. By the way, my name is Alth" |
| CaptainShar05-31-07, 08:22 PM | If I'm not mistaken, there's still a downed fellow or two to look through. I wouldn't presume to touch one again though; perhaps Ausric would do the honors of sifting through their clothes? Nobody objects to a nice fellow like him doing that? Reg wanders away from the group, bored with all the arguing since nobody seems to be doing anything about all the insults, and one duel was probably enough for the morning. |
| Skull_of_Shadow05-31-07, 10:52 PM | "A whisper gnome you say? Shouldn't you be quiet and... not loud and obnoxious then? Whats the point of being a 'whisper' gnome if you talk and make yourself loud and annoying? Oh well, guess it's just another name for midget with a big head. You little people really need to watch yourselves, ya keep comin over here and insulting me. Do I have 'annoyed by tiny people' written on me somwhere, and you feel you need to obey this invisible sign?" |
| Orcy The Green Wonder06-01-07, 02:49 PM | "Alright, thats enough. Let us go our seperate ways and let this drop at this before someone else gets hurt." Sireon shakes his head and moves away from the group. Heading over to a table and taking a seat, he rubs his forehead... this day was becoming a headache already. |
| Faithful_One06-01-07, 03:42 PM | Ausric nods in agreement to Sireon's statement and moves back to the side of his patron Senator. |
| Wilds06-01-07, 06:50 PM | "Funny wizard....." Alth walks over to Sireon and mutters an apology to him. "I met no offense, I tend to find talk less useful than action. My apologies for being obnoxious." He bows slightly and then turns and looks around, seeing nothing of interest he starts wandering around. |
| Skull_of_Shadow06-02-07, 12:14 PM | Richard blows a kiss to alth and spins about. Walking over to someplace or other and looking for a drink, his new items tucked into his bag. He watches the halfling and the gnome out of the corner of his eye just in case they feel like they need to be stupid again. |
| Dyne06-04-07, 08:49 PM | (Since Marxis is now the only one that needs to escape from prison, [and since Demonfey is never on AIM], I will run this here.) The half-elf bard Marxis spends the night in the prison of the Aervenia City guard tower, though the imprisonment seems much longer than that. From what he has observed, the three-story tower is always garrisoned with two guards, which rotate out every few hours. The prison itself is a filthy place on the 2nd level, a circular room 25 feet across with four separate barred cells, each with three sets of manacles, and no windows. The guards spend most of their time on the 3rd floor guard post, scanning the surrounding neighborhood for disturbances. They occasionally walk down the spiral stairway to check on their sole prisoner. The key to Marxis' cell rests on the wall of the prison, and his belongings are stuffed in a chest several feet away. Marxis is not chained up, but all his possessions have been confiscated, and the only things he has in his room are the clothes on his back, a straw mattress, and a bucket. (You are free to ask questions about the layout of the prison, as well as to make attempts to escape. When you are finished, I will continue on to the next part. The map of the prison can be found here (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/GuardTower.jpg). Marxis is in square B3, and his belongings/key to his cell are in square C1.) |
| Demonfey06-04-07, 09:41 PM | (Sorry, but it didn't look like you and Zombo were on at the same time. Any pattern to the guards coming through, or is it just random?) Marxis, in the mean time, has been using prestidigitation to clean up his cell, so he can get a better idea of what weaknesses there might be beneath the grime. |
| Dyne06-04-07, 10:06 PM | (The guards check on the prison during rotations, whenever they hear disturbances in the prison, and occasionally at random times. On average it is at least once an hour.) Your efforts do not reveal any weaknesses. The floors, ceiling, and outer walls of the tower are all made of thick stone masonry. The iron bars are spaced close enough together that it is impossible for you to entirely squeeze through, and they are secured solidly to the floor and ceiling. The gate to your cell is locked from the other side, but the bars are spaced far enough apart that you can slip an arm or a leg through. |
| Demonfey06-04-07, 10:10 PM | (How about strength of the masonry around the manacles?) |
| Dyne06-04-07, 10:15 PM | The manacles are bolted securely to the stone wall. However, Marxis was not shackled in the manacles, instead given free range of movement within his cell. |
| Demonfey06-04-07, 10:19 PM | He looks at the manacles, and realizes he can't pull them out. "Drat." (Plan A: take the manacles, use the chain to reach to the keys and knock them off their ring. Time for plan B: make the guards like you.) He begins using prestidigitation on everything, to clean the entire place. |
| Dyne06-04-07, 10:37 PM | After nearly an hour, most of the prison is sparkling clean. During that time, you can hear a key clicking in the locked door to the prison, and one of the guards walks in. "Don't like the grime, eh?" he says, seeing Marxis work. |
| Demonfey06-04-07, 10:41 PM | "The way I see it, as long as I'm here, I might as well help out." |
| Dyne06-04-07, 11:47 PM | "Well, that's nice. You know what? You've been so well-behaved, I think I'll let you loose." He grabs the cell key from off the wall, then walks over to Marxis cell. He is about to put the key in the cell door- "Oops, I just remembered: you broke the law, and now you have to face the music. No amount of cleaning will get you out of your punishment. Sorry, my poor memory makes me forget sometimes," he says the last sentence with a rather sarcastic tone. He winks before putting the key back on the wall and turning to leave. |
| Demonfey06-04-07, 11:51 PM | "You guys really have a low opinion of me, don't you. And you haven't even proven me guilty yet, just that someone's more convincing than me." (Seriously, give me some credit. I need them amicable so they'll hear me out) |
| Dyne06-05-07, 12:11 AM | "You have only been in there for one night. You are scheduled today to be moved to where you will have your trial, so relax." (They don't really care how filthy the prison gets, otherwise they'd clean it themselves. Although they do hire someone to come in and clean every once in awhile so it doesn't get too bad.) |
| Demonfey06-05-07, 12:40 AM | "It's more the fact that they decided to only take me in, as if the other couldn't have been using a simple spell and quick fingers to do the same thing, or better disguise materials than most if not spells. And no one answered why I should be the impostor." |
| Dyne06-05-07, 01:04 AM | "Well, I was not one of the arresting officers, but according to the report, the accuser had proper documentation to prove his identity, whereas you had none. That is plenty good reason to believe you are the impostor and the other man innocent. But like I said, you will receive your own fair trial to prove your innocence." |
| Demonfey06-05-07, 01:10 AM | "Yes, but it would have been so much more satisfying to do it while facing the impostor. Can I make requests during the trial to prove it, such as magical means of verification?" |
| Dyne06-05-07, 03:54 PM | "You can try whatever you like. But look, I gotta get back to my post, don't have time to stand here chatting all day. Good luck with whatever you have planned, though." He exits the room, locking the door behind him. You hear the guard's footsteps echo up the stairway, then the muted voices of the patrol above. You are observing a peculiar arcane mark that you just noticed on your right hand, when an explosion behind you deafens your ears and pelts you with rubble. "What the hell was that?" "Look!" you hear the guards shouting from the floor above. They hurry down the stairway to the bottom level, one shouting "Look after the prisoner" to his partner. When you look, you see that the back wall of the prison has been blown away, leaving you with an escape route if you can climb around the bars without falling off. If you can climb around, you can get to the chest with your things, the key to it resting on the wall just above. (You take 3 nonlethal damage from the explosion hitting you with debris. You can make a DC 15 Reflex save to reduce it by half (well, by 1 point). Climb DC 10 to climb around the bars, failing by 5 or more makes you fall, you cannot take 10. You can make a Knowledge (local) check to identify the arcane mark on your hand. Map of the blasted-away prison is here (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f169/Omnidux/GuardTowerblasted.jpg).) |
| Demonfey06-07-07, 12:24 AM | First off: 17 reflex (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1089534) "Gah!" Once the debris clears, he looks around. "What the hell?" Before looking intently at the mark for a few seconds, to try and place it. Second, Knowledge check: seems I'm full of 17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1089546)'s today. |
| Dyne06-07-07, 01:52 AM | (You take 2 points of nonlethal damage instead of 3. And I already made the knowledge check for you [since you were taking forever], but: ) You recognize the mark as being the one placed upon prisoners when they are first arrested. Each mark is unique and identifies the individual prisoner, and they are used to identify prisoners that have managed to escape before their trial. The mark can normally be removed only by agents of the crown, which is done after the prisoner's trial. If the suspect is deemed innocent, he is released; if he is deemed guilty, a different mark is placed upon him that identifies him as a convict. Certain members of the criminal underworld have developed techniques to remove the marks (for a price, of course). However, even if you went that route, you would need some way of identifying yourself lest that impostor who stole your invitation accuses you again. |
| Demonfey06-07-07, 02:09 AM | With that, Marxis backs away from the other walls (just in case), moves his bed by the bars, and lies down. Sure, he could run, but that wouldn't be the smart thing to do. And after all, if he's allowed to request some magic, it should prove things easily. From there, its just a matter of trickery. |
| Dyne06-08-07, 12:10 AM | After some time, the guards return to the tower. Marxis can hear them speaking from outside the door. "What happened? What caused the explosion?" "I don't know, it was some man in a black robe with a red eye symbol on the back. We didn't catch him, though." "Another one? We have reports of these black-clad men attacking guards across the kingdom. Rumor has it there's some conspiracy against the crown taking place." "And our little prisoner is probably part of this conspiracy. The explosion was targeted right at the prison level, and did just enough damage to blow open and wall and let our little prisoner escape." With that, the lock to the prison clicks open and the two guards walk in. "Well, will you look at that? He didn't escape, even though he had every opportunity to." "Maybe you're just getting paranoid, partner." "Hmm, maybe. It's about time for his trial, in any case. Actually, we're a little late." He unlocks the gate to Marxis' cell and opens it. "Wake up, pal, it's time to prove your innocence." |
| Demonfey06-08-07, 12:17 AM | "Ah, about time." With that, Marxis gets up, and walks out with them. |
| Dyne06-12-07, 03:30 AM | (I apologize for the lag of this thread. I intended to finish up this RP for Demonfey this morning [not to mention several days ago], but various things somehow took my attention away all day. I will be on early tomorrow, and we should be able to have this all resolved and begin the first competition that day. I hope you all will still be around for it, I have some interesting things planned that I think all of you will enjoy.) |
| Dyne06-12-07, 09:03 PM | The pair of guards lead Marxis down the steps to the first floor of the tower. Several spears, swords, and other pieces of equipment are stored in this room, which is used as sort of a small armory. One of the guards pushes open the fortified wooden door of the tower, and Marxis takes his first breath of fresh air since being arrested. As they walk outside, the Half-Elf can see another pair of guards that have been waiting to take their post in the watch tower. Marxis is led through the town, flanked by the guards with their hands constantly resting on the hilts of their sheathed swords. The rest of the city goes about its business in the usual manner, though there does seem to be some commotion over an event planned for that day. Marxis passes many signs on the walls advertising "The First Day of Founders Festival Competitions Has Begun!", directing people to the Aervenia Arena in the Merchants Quarter where, for the small price of a ticket, they can watch the noble champions compete for the Founder's Cup. At the bottom of these fliers is an ad from the Arena Betting Booth, inviting gamblers to bet their gold on the outcomes of the matches. However, the competitions are not scheduled to begin until noon day, and since there seems to be at least an hour or two of morning left, perhaps Marxis will have time to make it back to the competitions. That is, if he can find some way out of this mess. (I've gotta go, so "part 2" of this [the trial] will be posted later tonight.) |
| Dyne06-13-07, 05:10 AM | The group enters the Civic Square, where many clerks and lawyers and politicians scurry about, important parchments in hand and garbed in formal robes and cloaks. They arrive at a courthouse, where other prisoners—some in chains—wait under the watchful eyes of the city guards. One of Marxis' escorts goes to speak with a clerk, who looks through a pile of parchment on his desk before finding what he's looking for. Holding up the sheet of paper, he nods and gestures Marxis follow him into the courtroom, and the two guards exit the building to return to their duties. As the clerk opens the doors, the judge, a man in black robes and wearing a large white wig, looks up at the newcomers. Strolling across the courtroom, the clerk hands him the piece of parchment, whispering something in his ear. The judge nods, and the clerk goes back to his desk in the other room. "Back to the business at hand, before that interruption," the judge says, looking at the frightened man in chains standing before him. A different clerk sits in the corner of the courtroom, readying his quill to record the trial. "After reviewing the evidence against the defendant, this court finds the defendant to be guilty of the crime charged against him, which is the murder of an innocent citizen of the kingdom. By the power of the crown, the defendant is sentenced to death by beheading, as according to the law. May justice be served, and may your soul rest in peace." The judgment is finalized with the sound of the judge's hammer. Hearing this, the prisoner begins to shake, then starts to scream. "Death? But I didn't do it! I'm innocent!" A pair of guards move in the restrain him, and he flails about as he is dragged from the courtroom. "Next case," the judge says calmly. Marxis is gestured forward, and a lawyer dressed in fancy robes takes his place opposite the Half-Elf bard. "Prosecutor, please present your case," the judge says to the lawyer. "This person," the lawyer begins with an air of dignity, "is accused of impersonating the representative of a senator, and of conspiring against the crown." The judge seems to take more interest in this case, and he leans in closer to listen. "After I present the evidence against this suspect, his guilt of these crimes will be undeniable." The lawyer pauses before continuing. "I present to the courtroom my first witness: the officer of the law that made the arrest of our suspect." The guard captain enters the courtroom, taking a seat next to but lower than the judge's elevated position. "Captain Kernaw, please give your account of what happened the night of this man's arrest." The guard captain clears his throat before speaking. "It was yesterday, the first night of the Founder's Festival, and he was purported to be one of the champions in competition for the Founder's Cup. This man, and the group he seemed to associated himself with, seemed to be acting suspiciously almost from the start. They caused all sorts of disruptions at the event, and the woman from the group was involved in a confrontation with a royal alchemist of the crown. I testified at her trial earlier today, and she was decided to be guilty. I am sure it is obvious that this ally of hers is equally guilty of his crimes. The main issue arose when another man, looking nearly identical to this one, accused him of impersonation. This accuser presented his invitation to the event, proving his identity. This suspect, on the other hand, did not have an invitation nor any other means of identification. This suspect was also whispering suspiciously with the aforementioned woman at the time of the arrest, both of them off by themselves away from the others at the gathering." The lawyer nods to his witness. "Thank you Captain Kernaw, that will be all." The guard captains gets up and walks out of the courtroom, his job finished. "And now," the lawyer continues, "I would like to present to the court, as evidence, the possessions of the suspect." A clerk enters, carrying Marxis' personal belongings, and he displays the short sword, the crossbow, and the armor. "This suspect," the prosecutor continues, "was obviously well-armed, and fully capable of inflicting harm against the royal crown and innocent citizens of the kingdom. This man is a threat to society, and he should be punished for his crimes." The lawyer seats himself, concluding his argument. The judge takes a moment to think about the lawyer's statements, looking over his own notes of the case. Finally, he addresses Marxis. "Defendant, you may now present your case." |
| Demonfey06-13-07, 11:43 AM | ihh: easy stuff first. "I would like to begin with the charge of not being who I claim to be. On that charge, I would request a mage besides Richard to cast a spell that would remove any disguise I formed magically, mainly because I fear Richard might lie out of spite. I would also like someone to come up to help prove that I am not wearing a disguise. The reasoning being, if I have neither, I wish to know how I looked like the supposed Marxis?" (Want a diplomacy?) |
| Dyne06-13-07, 07:46 PM | The judge nods, and a man in scholarly robes comes forward. "I will start," says the man, "by dispelling any magical auras around him. If it is a magical disguise, it should be removed immediately." He makes some arcane gestures, followed by magical words in some strange tongue. Marxis glows momentarily, but nothing happens. The judge looks on with interest. "As you can see," the mage goes on, "this man is clearly not using a magical disguise. We can now also be sure that he is not under any other magical effect that would interfere with my divinations, as those will have been dispelled." He takes out a balm of honey and a lotus flower. "However, mundane disguises would not be affected by dispel magic, of course. Additionally, there are some creatures that possess the strange ability to change their form at will. These shapechangers cannot be made to change form with such a simple spell as dispel magic. So, this next spell will allow me to discern the subject's true form, allowing me to pierce nonmagical disguises and the alternate forms of shapechangers." He applies the honey and lotus flower to his eyelids, then begins to cast another spell. After a moment, he says "The Half-Elf standing before you is not using a disguise of any kind. He appears before you in his true form." The mage sits down, taking a cloth from his pocket to wipe his face. The prosecuting lawyer stands, obviously not satisfied with the mage's presentation. "This does not prove anything. I demand his thoughts be read to identify his true intent." (You should make a Diplomacy check.) |
| Demonfey06-14-07, 02:13 PM | (This post reserved for when I have a good enough coherent lie to try. Might take a while.) |
| Dyne06-18-07, 11:05 PM | The judge shakes his head, gesturing for the lawyer to sit down. "That will not be necessary. At this man has demonstrated," he says pointing to the mage, "the suspect is not using a disguise and so clearly is innocent of impersonation. It seems the suspect is simply a victim of misunderstanding and a mistaken identity. As for the charge of conspiracy, there is no evidence to support your claim." A clerk steps forward, clutching a piece of paper in his hands. "Your Honor, I believe you should take a look at this." The judge takes the paper from the clerk, then curiously looks it over. His facial expression seems to change as he reads, going from surprise to contempt. Finally, he lifts his eyes from the page. "This," he says holding up the paper, "is a letter from an unknown source to the defendant. Disturbingly, it makes clear an assassination plot against Councilor Rozzel that our defendant seems to have been involved in. With this new evidence, I am forced to change my previous views on this case. The defendant will undergo magical divinations to ascertain his intent and involvement in this apparent plot against Councilor Rozzel. Unless something turns up to prove his innocence, he will likely be found guilty of treason and conspiracy against the crown, the punishment of which is death. Councilor Rozzel should also be informed of this plot, so that he can take measures to protect his life." The clerk that has been recording the case nods. "I will send messengers to the councilor, the king, and the commander of the guard. The councilor's security should be increased, for his own welfare, until the other conspirators are brought to justice." Elsewhere in the city, the champions are getting ready for the first day of the Founder's Cup competitions. (Giving Demonfey a chance to introduce his new character before we move on.) |
| Demonfey06-19-07, 07:01 PM | At the Founder's Cup, a late arrival's just getting in. For the most part, he doesn't stand out from the normal crowd, wearing the clothes of commoners, except for a shield on his back with the symbol of Aura painted on. There's also something...strange, about his eyes, as they shine unusually. As he reaches the guards, he stops, and pulls out an invitation. "I apologize for arriving so late. As it says, my name is Konthrien d'Quixo, cleric of Aura." |
