In the early years of the city of Jeleng, watchposts were placed far and wide throughout the wild land. The watch fortress on Shadow Watch Bluff was one of these. Here, men and women watched the movments of the orcs that lived in the caves far below at the base of the mighty hills, more like mountains at this altitude. When war came to the land the watchposts were left behind in the effort to guard the riverbanks from the Dromkarian forces. In the meantime, it was assaulted with it's weakened forces and taken by the orcs of Shadow Watch. Since their time taking the fortress their numbers have dwindled severely. A lack of caravans to raid and the increased security provided by the guilds has caused a noticable decrease in their population. But that has not stopped their boldness and courage.

Shadow Watch is one of the watchposts left over from before the war. Here a band of orcs is known to reside, and indeed the have been known to kidnapp noble women and demand a ransome for them. They are also known raiders, but their success as of late has been somewhat lacking.

Still clutching his wounds, Dench Bloodfeng trots up to Shadow Watch on horseback. When he reaches the fortress, he addresses the Orcs. "Dench Bloodfeng, here to lead you against the filthy outsiders. Now take me to shaman before I bleed to death." He sits precariously on his horse, looking like he is about to fall off.
Orcy The Green Wonder

02-26-07, 11:08 PM
The Orc tilts his head and barks a command to another of the nearby orcs, who then rushes off toward the broken down fortress. The other turns back toward Dench and grunts.
"Who you think is telling me whats do? Yous not boss of mes. Shamans say what do with redskin orc."
Dyne

02-26-07, 11:33 PM
Dench shrugs, still on horseback. "Then bring shaman."

If he wasn't badly wounded, Dench would be pounding on that Orc with his fists right now. Just so you know. How dare he challenge the authority of Dench Bloodfeng....
Orcy The Green Wonder

02-26-07, 11:50 PM
The shaman approaches and looks Dench over. Circling him a few times and prodding him with his staff should Dench let him that close. After examining him he nods to one of the other orcs. Bent and old the shaman coughs and holds out his hand, motioning for Dench to follow, but not saying a word during the whole encounter. The other orc, who had questioned Dench, grumbles and stomps off into camp.
Dyne

02-26-07, 11:56 PM
Nearly stumbling to the ground as he dismounts, Dench follows after the shaman, leading his horse with him.
Orcy The Green Wonder

02-27-07, 12:10 AM
The shaman leads Dench into a room in the fortress and motions toward a mat on the floor. The shaman takes a few powders and sits down beside the mat. He waits for Dench to take his place, but begins powdering his hands while waiting.
Dyne

02-27-07, 12:33 AM
Dench stumbles forward, then passes out on the mat. He snores loudly, drool dribbling from his mouth.
Orcy The Green Wonder

02-27-07, 12:41 AM
When Dench awakens, the shaman is stretching his back and itching himself in a place Dench likely doesn't want to see. He turns around and nods to the, now healed, blood orc. He motions toward a piece of paper folded neatly beside the blood orc and leaves the room.
Dyne

02-27-07, 12:53 AM
Dench yawns and stretches, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He then goes over to the piece of paper, curiously, and picks it up (opening and reading it, if it's a note).
Dyne

02-27-07, 01:30 AM
After reading the note, the Blood Orc tucks it away in a pocket. Stretching once more, he goes outside the tent. Calling to the other Orcs, he gathers them about him and speaks.

"The Outsiders come to destroy us. By the fire burns in my blood, I not let them succeed." He pounds his fist into his palm, prompting a few sparks to fly forth. "I lead Orc clan to victory over Outsiders. But, need be prepared."

He gestures to the collapsed wall that's filled with rubble. "Hole in wall, no good. Also, need weapons. Who you trade with?"
Orcy The Green Wonder

02-27-07, 02:12 PM
One of the orcs steps forward and leans on his spear. He grunts and looks at the wall.
"You want wall rebuilt? That take lot of time. Trade with goblins and hobgoblins from fleshripping cave, come by lot. We sell Kraag, they buy and sell what else have. Lot of things trade for, but raids not do well, not have things get things with."
Dyne

02-27-07, 10:05 PM
Dench points to the ruined watch towers outside the fortress. "Pile rubble in hole. No time rebuild now, outsiders come in few days." The Blood Orc nods for emphasis. "Lead me to goblins. Need weapons, we raid tonight."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-01-07, 10:32 AM
The orcs mutter but after a few minutes some start to wander off to gather the rubble from the destroyed towers. They then move it to the wall and begin tossing it into the holes.

Another orc steps out of the group and nods to Dench. Waving a hand toward the north.
"Gobs live far north, not know when come back. Maybe coming, maybe not. Come when have things to trade, so not know if need. Might use after big fight on bridge.."
Dyne

03-03-07, 01:42 PM
After observing the 'fortifying' of the wall, Dench nods to the Orc. "Lead me to Gobs."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-03-07, 05:15 PM
"If outsiders come in few days, we not get all the way to gobs in time. Maybe if gobs coming here we meet them on way. Outcast might know if gobs coming, keep watch on gobs so know when hide. We talk him if want."
The orc scratches his head and looks around at the others for any sort of assistance then shrugs. Waving Dench to follow he begins walking off into the surrounding hills.
Dyne

03-04-07, 02:46 AM
Dench follows after the Orc to meet this fellow named Outcast.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 02:52 AM
The Orc leads the way through the hills for a few hours until the two reach a cave with a set of crude spears crossed to one side. These spears are nailed to a wooden shield and each carry a skull impaled on them. Painted crudely above the entrance in Orcish and Gobbish both are the words (if one can call this writing that). "Not disturb"
"That where Outcast live. Big angry bugbear, but might be help."
Dyne

03-04-07, 12:33 PM
Dench nods, entering the cave. He announces his arrival to the darkness of the cave, "Dench Bloodfeng is looking for Outcast. Want to trade with Gob merchants." With a last thought, he adds "Apology for disturbing."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 01:01 PM
A bugbear, large for even his kind, comes from deeper within the cave. Carrying a greataxe and wearing a shirt composed of chain links he growls at Dench. The bugbear was not only large but had many scars, suggesting much experience in combat. Striding up to the blood orc and stopping about ten feet away he grips his axe.
"You come to me to find the goblins? Why not go to the goblins themselves. The last I heard, your kind had no hatred toward them."
Dyne

03-04-07, 01:42 PM
"That good question." He turns to the Orc, scratching his head, "Why we come to see Outcast?"
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 02:17 PM
The orc pokes his head into the cave and clears his throat.
"Because Outcast know what gobs up to, watch gobs so know what doing. I tell that already."
The bugbear glares at the orc then smirks and laughs.
"Yes... I know what the goblins are doing. That is true. But they are much easier to find at their home than out here in these hills. Unless... you have need of finding them quickly. Then I am your best bet. Of course... it would cost you."
Dyne

03-04-07, 04:02 PM
"Cost?" Dench rubs his chin, thinking. "How quickly you find them? And what is price?"
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 04:15 PM
"They will not be hard to find, it will not take long. For you, it would take longer to find, maybe not even find them at all. But that is why you need me, I know where to look. Price depends on why you need to find them, if I like the reason, I may help more... cheaply."
Dyne

03-04-07, 04:49 PM
"We buy weapons from Gobs. Use to kill city-dwellers, who seek the deaths of all 'non-civilized' folk. You benefit from Orc raids, we keep Humans from attacking you, because they too busy fighting us."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 04:59 PM
"Humans not care about a lone bugbear in the hills. But they do when Orcs raid too much. You do too many raids and humans send their guildsmen out to kill those like me. You want weapons from the gobs so you can go kill humans do you? What do you gain aside from bit of coin?"
Dyne

03-04-07, 05:11 PM
"Human soldiers on way to wipe out innocent Orcs. We fight for honor and survival. Perhaps if we win, Orcs and Gobs and kin unite. One grand army, drive the Humans from these lands. But if not, at least we survive. Humans come to purge these lands; when we are gone, they come for you next."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 05:23 PM
The bugbear rubs his chin and nods.
"You are correct. They will come when they are done with you. It would be in my best interest to see you win wouldn't it? Maybe I can help... I know where the fleshripper's traders are. They are not far, but are well hidden. I can show you to them, but they will not like to see me. I am an outcast for speaking out against their warlord, the 'Dragon Lord Ganuknuk' is what he calls himself."
Dyne

03-04-07, 05:30 PM
Satisfied, Dench nods to the Bugbear. "You do an honor to our kind. I believe Gobs be happy to help when they hear our cause. They are enemies to the Humans, and recently suffered an attack from their kind." He nods again. "Lead us to them."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 05:36 PM
The bugbear called outcast nods and heads deeper into his cave, gathering a few things he returns with rope across his body and a chain around one arm. He grunts and heads out of the cave, staring the other Orc down as he passes. The scarred bugbear starts out across the hills with suprising speed for one his size, heading in a different direction than the Fleshripper camp far to the north. The other orc watches Dench and begins to follow after the big bugbear.
Dyne

03-04-07, 09:15 PM
Shrugging, Dench does his best to keep up with the Bugbear, his barbarian upbringing granting him an extra boost of speed.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-04-07, 11:31 PM
The bugbear stops every now and then to allow Dench to catch up, keeping a fairly tiring pace and after about four hours of travel he slows down. Stooping low and then lowering himself down into a crawl he makes his way to a ridge as the sun goes down up above. Waving his hand to the valley below, a goblin can be seen coming out of a cave to look up at the darkening sky with a grin. The bugbear looks back to Dench and nods.
"There are your goblins."
Dyne

03-08-07, 01:03 AM
The Blood Orc descends into the valley, walking over to the Goblin and giving a short bow. "I am Dench Bloodfeng, leader of the Shadow Watch Orcs. I heard your band was attacked by the Humans. We seek to avenge the city-dwellers for the wrongs they have caused us. We need weapons for battle, and we seek to trade with you for them."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 01:06 AM
The goblin, shocked at first, listens to the orc and calls back into the cave behind it, a hobgoblin walking out and looking Dench over.
"Usually orcs wait for us to finds thems. What does yous need?"
Dyne

03-08-07, 01:14 AM
"Humans wage battle against my Orcs. We make preparations for war, and we need weapons. We make the city-dwellers burn." He pounds his fist into the palm of his other hand, sparks flying from the impact.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 01:16 AM
The hob rubs it's chin and looks Dench over.
"What exactly want from us? Have idea of what needed?"
Dyne

03-08-07, 09:03 PM
"I am looking for seven longbows, seven quivers of arrows, and eight longspears. Also, I hear you train dire bats. I would like one as my mount."

(The longbows are supposed to be Mighty Composite Longbows with a +2 Str bonus, but I don't know how to describe that outside of game terms.)
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 09:09 PM
The hobgoblin rubs his chin and nods.
"We have things that need. Very lucky with longspears, we bring because thought orcs might have use for them with barricades. Have recurved bows too... should have some that good for what you need. You in luck too, we have a few bats with us. Hard to carry so we not carry a lot of them. But we do have one. Let see... you ride bare back or you want saddle too? Without saddle it cost you 2,497 gold. If you want saddle, you pay extra thirty for normal ride saddle, sixty for one that good for fighting."
Dyne

03-08-07, 09:57 PM
"I take good saddle. However, I have proposal. The Humans seek to destroy all who they deem as "savages," including both our clans. I know of the Goblin lives lost at bridge. Such destruction not end until they kill us all, or until we kill them. The Humans are the greatest enemy of both our clans. If we help each other, stronger stand against the Humans. Perhaps we vanquish the city-dwellers and live in peace between our clans. If you give good deal on weapons, we able to kill more Humans, and we trade exclusively with you. Benefit to both our clans."

Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 10:12 PM
The hobgoblin scratches his chin and then it and the gob next to it begin talking in their native tounge. After a few minutes of speaking they both turn back toward Dench.
"You make good point. Trade only with us, and we give discout. We give you whole deal for 2,250 gold. It not much of discout... but if you only trade with us, then we can make deal. Just make sure to spill lot of human blood."
Dyne

03-08-07, 10:25 PM
Dench smiles, nodding at the Hobgoblin. "We spill much Human blood." He hands over several bottles of Orc Kraag, as well as a sack of gold coins. The total value of the drink and gold equals the price asked by the Hobgoblin. "We thank you. Our clans will do well together."
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 10:29 PM
The hobgoblin nods, calling back into the cave to bring out the needed items. A few hobs and gobs come out carrying a bundle of spears and a stack of bows. They also bring out a cage with a large bat inside of it, a saddle set on the side of the cage. Finally, a crate with quivers is brought out and set down for the blood orc.
Dyne

03-08-07, 10:43 PM
"Also, we have few Orc warriors with which to wage battle against the city-dwellers. Have you any mercenary warriors amongst you willing to fight for a wage? And what be their asking price?"
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 10:56 PM
The hob's eyes light up and he calls back into the cave. A few armored hobs exit alongside some more lightly armored hobgoblins with heafty clubs.
"You hire some of these men? It cost you... one hundred and fourty for light armored, and one hundred and sixty for armored me. Two gold a day for light, four for armored after up front payment. Armored men are cavalry, they good with horses and lance. You want hire some?"
Dyne

03-08-07, 11:47 PM
"I would like to hire two of your cavalry warriors. They would make a fine addition to my force." He hands over the gold, then picks up the crates and heads back toward the Orc fortress.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-08-07, 11:56 PM
The hob takes the gold eagerly and turns to the two riders behind him. They re-enter the cave and appear from within carrying lances. Mounting horses they grin and nod to Dench, one speaking.
"You lead way."
Dyne

03-09-07, 12:03 AM
Dench orders the Hobgoblins, gesturing to the Bugbear. "You not attack Outcast. He our ally. Now, follow me." He departs for Shadow Watch, carrying crates and leading his bat mount along beside him.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-09-07, 12:08 AM
The hobs stare at outcast and grumble in gobbish, riding on the opposite side of the group that Outcast walks on. Outcast, likewise, glares angrily at the hobs, helping to carry a few things as well. Though mounted, the going is slower for the hobs as a result of the rough terrain they must guide their horses over. The group makes it back to shadow watch by the morning, Dench and his Orc companion both rather tired from a long day of traveling. The hobs dismount and stretch their legs, looking around and wondering what their orders are.
Dyne

03-09-07, 12:16 AM
The Blood Orc stretches, obviously fatigued from traveling. However, he refuses to rest, as there is work to be done. He orders his warriors to train and prepare themselves for battle, for the enemy will be there soon. Dench then descends into the caves at the back of the fortress.
Orcy The Green Wonder

03-09-07, 12:25 AM
The orcs grunt and head down into the caves as well, a few staying behind to watch for anything out of the ordinary. The hobgoblins as well stay up above, taking up residence in the crude barricade rooms established by the orcs.

Once down below, the orcs head to their training hall to fight and practice their weapon skills.

Coming over the hills he approaches the ground quickly to keep himself as disguise as possible. Slowly but surely, Greenspine makes his way towards the Towers, his eyes keened against the stone building.

Greenspine can make out from here a pair of orcs at the entrace to the old building. It appears that a hole in the side of the far wall from his position has been filled with rocks to make it more difficult to climb. As well, there are a pair of, what sound like goblinoids and horses based on the speech, in one of the barricades. At the moment, the base seems to be little prepared for an attack, most of the orcs are not in immediate sight.

Greenspine again goes un-noticed. From this vantage point he can see two horses tethered to the rocks that fill the broken wall. The gobbish language is heard well now from the barricade ahead of him, but apparently they aren't paying much attention. The orcs grumble in their own language about slow and boring days.

One of the hobs pulls a longbow from it's back and rides forward, taking a few shots at the lizardman when he is in view. However both attacks fall short of the horribly quick lizardman. The second hob rides into view as well, firing it's own pair of shots, but failing miserably.

Orcy could have sworn he mentioned the damage to Dench... it was 20. He apparently forgot to post that. Alright... now.

Despite the accuracy of her shot, the arrow fired by Girial strikes the barrier infront of the orc. The angle all wrong for the shot giving the orc much more cover than most archers would like.

The hobgoblin rider roars a challenge and lowers his own lance, spurring his mount he charges straight for Dalag. Before he can strike however his horse nearly trips over a stone and he stabs the earth instead of his intended target.

The spear weilding orcs roar and being making their ways toward Dalag. Two strike at him while the others circle around and ready themselves to strike him when they can. Each of those that strike at him peirce his body, both orcs grinning eagerly for more blood, and bringing the others to cheering and taunting for their own taste of the battle.

The pair of orcs behind the barrier ignore the orders, their angle being a bit wrong to fire upon Girial. They instead fire on the plainsman archer, one of the arrows striking their target but doing little in the way of harming the rider.

The other two however move forward and take aim, both shots are good and peirce Girial's defenses. One striking her hard and the other grazing her body. Her natural defenses manage to protect her from the majority of the arrow's strength.

A spear weilding orc roars and charges forward with his spear. He thrusts the weapon into Dalag's side and draws blood, which seems to only spur the orc onward, another battle cry issuing from his throat as he raises the spear of his head.

Two of the other orcs each hurl a spear at Girial, but fail to hit her, possibly given the distance of the throw, and perhaps because their spears are not designed to be thrown all that far. The final charges forward and thrusts his spear at Greenspine, but, yet again fails to harm the lizard.

As the orc Greenspine has been battling falls, two others charge at him from across the field. One fails to catch the quick little lizardman, the other however thrusts his spear through greenspine's armor and into his shoulder.

Girial finds herself the subject of repeated bow shots. Most of the arrows falling short of their target or flying too far past. One does strike her though, peircing her defenses and sinking into her leg despite her own protections.

Greenspine, by some miracle, some fluke of luck, some extremely strange circumstances... takes 15 damage.

(I meant closer to the main tower; I'm at O15 45 ft. up at the start of this turn.)

Girial is quite full of holes at the moment; she stops straining to fight amidst the constant blood loss, and releases a flood of light over the area. (Should catch the orcs in N11 and K15 in the bright area.) She flies swiftly upward (Now at O17, 95 ft. up) to catch her breath.

(Daylight at-will ability; should have the same effects as Greenspine's pellets.)

(I'm going to spend four rounds using my wand to heal up; I'll just post the rolls now. As she's healing herself, she'll keep moving out of range, circling around the tower to take a look at the other side, if she can get that far (60 ft. move speed). They quickly gather around and drag her off into the fortress as the others of her group flee from the battle. Greenspine makes out tracks heading back through the hills, heading in the direction of the city. Meanwhile, under shadow watch... Girial awakens from her unconciousness in a dark hole in the ground. An earthen smell surrounds her and a set of bars rest over the opening to the hole up above. To one side of the large pit that would appear to be a prison of some sort sits a young woman in tattered noble's clothing. She has many a bruise and sits quietly watching as Girial stirs. Little else can be made out from the angle and lighting, supplied by a single torch somewhere in the room above. Upon hearing movement, an orcish voice calls out from above and a young orc is dispatched to fetch Dench.

Are you Sarah?

Girial moves over next to her.

Did they beat you?

She uses 'Lay on Hands' for twelve, and smoothes away most, if not all, of the bruises.

I think they're coming for me. When I get back, we'll figure out how to get out of here. Or, if that takes a while, the next rescue group your father sends should have an easier time of it, now that we've weakened their guard.

Try to think of everyone you've seen - guards, other prisoners, defenses, weapons, anything - and tell me about it when I get back.

"Why you attack us?"
CaptainShar

05-14-07, 07:26 PM
We want Sarah returned to her family. Also, your people here are known to attack the city, as far as I can tell; the city needs to be kept safe if we are to rebuild this country after the wars with the Dromkarians.

Girial flies up to the top of the cell, near the orc.

I admit that fighting is not always the best answer, and perhaps you will not listen to me since I fought first and you now have the advantage. But my goal is not to kill you; fighting seemed the fastest way since this girl was suffering every minute she stayed here. Talking would take longer, but now we are talking.

Why did you keep me alive, even heal me? My guess is that you want to ransom me as well. Well, I will tell you this: my father is dead, my mother is very far away, and I have only recently moved to the city. It would be of more advantage to you, I think, to let me help you fight against our common enemy, the Dromkarians. Are any of your people suffering under them? Do you seek to send out a warband against them? I will gladly join you in such a plan, adding my force to yours. I have an advantage against the shadow warriors; they cannot jump through the shadows near me because I banish all shadows.

But perhaps I talk too long. What do you want with me?

(Also, Detect Evil on everyone in range.)
Dyne

05-15-07, 03:11 AM
Dench looks down at Girial, arms crossed over his chest. "No, we not ransom you." He seems to think a moment, then speaks.

"Orcs not attack humans for love of violence. Orcs only attack to survive, never forget that. More cannot be said without trust. As for Dromkarians. Their forces are scattered, no more threat to peace. Roam in bands, trying to avoid enemies."

"But perhaps threat is not all gone. More Dromkarians will come across sea, some say. Where they come from? Why they attack? Questions remain in wake of battle, lie unanswered. Perhaps Dromkarians come again."

He faces the winged Elf. "Can you stand beside an Orc? Seek answers together?"
CaptainShar

05-15-07, 03:25 AM
I will not do anything that would make Tephana ashamed of me. But it matters little to me whether I make my base here or in the city; I am sworn to protect this land from savage monsters whether they attack civilized orcs or humans.

But, I ask, if I stay with you, let Sarah go home. By adding a warrior to your ranks I have more than repaid what you might have gotten for her. And let me send a message to the Defenders' Guild of the city, along with the badge you took from me, to explain that I am still working for the good of the land.
Dyne

05-15-07, 03:29 AM

CaptainShar

05-15-07, 03:40 AM
Then at least stop beating her, and let me send a message to her father that she is alive.

But I would advise you to send her back; you will only attract more trouble from the city if you keep her here.

Girial slips off the overhead bars she's been clenching this whole time; she bangs against the side of the pit and stifles a yelp of pain.

And can you take me out of here? I've already given my word to stay, and a paladin's word is worth much.

A lone figure moves through the orcs toward Dench. It makes no noise but is shrouded in darkness and cloaked with heavy black leather, it's face hidden. Approaching, the figure extends a gloved hand toward Dench, a ring with a bleeding eye upon it's back glitters on the gloved hand. Held within said hand is an envelope, sealed with the same symbol that the ring bears. Most of the orcs pay no attention to the figure, or rather, make it a point not to look.

Finally, the defender you captured. Do what you wish with her, if you choose to ransom her, we will do our best to ensure that such a ransom is paid by her guild. We have our ways of influencing events, and hope that things work out to your liking. Good luck."

"Dad... sent you? Of course he did... hes too much of a coward. He didn't help me, he watched them take me. Now he feels guilty doesn't he? Hes guilty because hes a coward."
Sarah shakes her head and tears up a bit, attempting to control her emotions for a minute. When she has calmed down and gained control of herself she looks at Girial.
"The orcs are... pretty smart for being so dumb. I can't climb out of here very well... but they do have to open the top sometimes. They don't really give me anything good to eat... but when they have a good hunt they sometimes throw a leg or something down here. It's a little hard to get through the bars so they open them. But with you here, I don't know if they will. I don't know the new one... his voice at least. I haven't seen him yet."

<Well, whether or not your father is a coward, you're here and you need to get back. But tell me; is he rich enough to pay the ransom? I may be less insistent if that is just as easy for him.

I'm sorry to hear about the food, but you can have all of mine, too. Don't tell them, but I actually can survive without eating and sleeping. I pretend to, though; it usually comes in handy.>

(Outsider type.)

Dench goes to the prison and opens the hatch himself, no longer trusting his own warriors quite so much. "Task for you, Elf woman. Perhaps you make self useful, to all us."
CaptainShar

05-19-07, 07:41 PM
Girial flies out and stands before Dench, stretching her wings out to their twelve-foot span after the hours being cramped, and thoughtfully dimming her glow.

Yes, sir. What is it, sir?
Dyne

05-19-07, 07:44 PM
The Blood Orc holds out an enveloped note. "Take to Human woman's father. Collect ransom. On return, your equipment given back, Human woman freed. Then we find Dromkarians."
CaptainShar

05-19-07, 07:55 PM
Yes, sir. If I don't come back it is because I have been attacked. I am still rather weak; however, there is a good chance that by flying high I shall make it safely.

Girial takes the note, leaves the main hall and with a leap ascends to the sky.
Dyne

05-19-07, 07:56 PM
Dench heads back to his quarters... and waits....
CaptainShar

06-07-07, 08:26 PM
As Girial sights the fortress, she lands and removes the message from her belt, holding it in her hand. She then walks up the front walkway towards the tower.
Dyne

06-07-07, 08:31 PM
Dench Bloodfeng heads out to meet her, flanked by two of his most loyal Orc warriors. "Took long to deliver message, us wonder if ever coming back. You bring ransom gold?"
CaptainShar

06-07-07, 08:42 PM
You expected me to fly all through the night?

I contacted Sir Dehney; he seemed very surprised at whatever you asked him for, and refused to give me anything but this. I have not read it; I do not know what it says.

She holds out the still-sealed envelope.
Dyne

06-07-07, 11:16 PM
Dench snatches up the envelope and begins reading, not saying a word.
Dyne

06-07-07, 11:58 PM
The Blood Orc snorts after reading the letter. "Small man not pay ransom. Speaks of some agreement with 'employer'. So, we set up to kidnap girl, fight off soldiers, and for no reward?" He grunts, still furious.

He turns to Girial. "Told you to bring back ransom, not stupid worthless letter. Go back to small man and demand ransom, or he never see daughter again. Though, Dench unsure if small man care. What father has daughter kidnapped? Filthy humans have no honor. If he not pay, we take her with us to find Dromkarians. Now fly, Elf woman."
CaptainShar

06-09-07, 11:46 AM
He arranged for Sarah to be kidnapped?

Girial assumes a fierce expression.

What say you to this: I will ask the Guild of Defenders to take her in and ransom her; it would not do her much good, I think, to go back to such a father.

Do you have another message for me, or do you want to actually tell me what you're asking for, this time? Speaking of messages, if you give me that letter, I can present it as evidence of Dehney's corruption.
Dyne

06-09-07, 04:35 PM
Dench thinks for a moment, then says "No letter. Your word better than Orc's. Take girl to Guild of Defenders, ransom her or just leave her. Then, we leave for Dromkarians."
CaptainShar

06-09-07, 07:41 PM
Good. I will go get her, then? And shall I buy anything while I'm in the city?

Girial moves toward the fortress entrance.
Dyne

06-10-07, 09:55 PM
Dench tosses Girial's pouch of gold at the winged Elf woman. He then heads down to the prison and unlocks the cell of Sarah Dehney, somewhat relieved to be rid of the girl.
CaptainShar

06-10-07, 09:59 PM
Thank you, eh...?
Dyne

06-10-07, 10:02 PM
"Take girl to Guild of Defenders. Tired of delays, anxious to leave. And take this." The Blood Orc hands Girial the letter he received from Sir Dehney.
CaptainShar

06-10-07, 10:06 PM
Turning her attention toward Sarah, Girial pulls her easily out of the pit.

Sarah, we're going back to the city. Now, it's fine either way: would you like to fly facing up over my shoulder so you can look at the sky, and hold around my neck if that would make you feel better, or would you like to face down so you can see the country below us?
Orcy The Green Wonder

06-10-07, 10:13 PM
"I uh... uhm... I guess... I'll fly watching down. I'd rather see where we're going. Lets just... get out of here."
Sarah looks around at the orcs and shudders.
"Where... are my things?"
CaptainShar

06-10-07, 10:18 PM
Next to my things, I would imagine. Mr. Head Orc, are you going to return the lady's things as well?

Girial moves behind Sarah, circling her waist with a thin but sinewy arm and easily lifting her off the ground in preparation for flight.
Dyne

06-10-07, 10:24 PM
Dench signals to one of his peons, who grunts before retrieving a rapier, dagger, bracers, and Sarah's other belongings.
CaptainShar

06-10-07, 10:29 PM
Girial gives Sarah's things to her to hold.

All right, let's go! I should be back this afternoon if I am not detained.

Girial walks quickly out of the tower and takes to the skies once more, holding Sarah tightly, with both arms, for the moment.

Once in the air, Girial speaks to Sarah:

You'll be safe, now. I'm taking you to the Defenders' Guild. You might want to think about a friend or maybe an aunt or a cousin you can tell them that you want to stay with. I'm afraid your father may be facing charges from the city soon for his ghastly mistreatment of you.
Orcy The Green Wonder

06-11-07, 05:33 PM
"My father's mistreatement? What do you mean by that?"
Sarah looks up at Girial as best she can from beneath her, apparently very confused.
CaptainShar

06-11-07, 07:49 PM
Girial sighs.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but your father is a bigger coward than you thought. I don't know all the details, but apparently he arranged with someone - not the orcs themselves - to have you captured and held for ransom. For such an act, he ought to be tried.
Orcy The Green Wonder

06-11-07, 08:06 PM
"He... did what? Why would you say something like that about my father?"
CaptainShar

06-11-07, 08:19 PM
Girial lands for a moment.

Here's what he wrote. I should look at it myself too.

Girial reads the letter.
Orcy The Green Wonder

06-11-07, 09:21 PM
"But... thats. You're lying. Dad wouldn't just give me to those orcs."
CaptainShar

06-11-07, 09:27 PM
I don't lie.

At least be happy that letter got you your freedom; if it means anything else, the city will decide what is to happen to Sir Dehney.

Girial takes to the air again.

Are you trained in the use of the sword? I noticed you have a rapier.
Orcy The Green Wonder

06-11-07, 09:34 PM
"Nothing, my father didn't do anything. You'll see."
Sarah looks at her sword.
"Yes, my father taught me. He's pretty good with a rapier."
CaptainShar

06-11-07, 09:41 PM
I hope I will.

But I do suggest staying with someone else for a while.
