| sculyblast05-25-07, 12:43 PM | Eyah All, Welcome to the New thread of CoA. The Council has a lot of branches stretching over all of the CoA boards, This is the mainthread for Discussing of Pretty much everything, I do believe there will be a spell contest organized in thread soon. What else is there? There is the Conscientia, The Acadamy of magic, A roleplaying thread, Conscientia (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=852014) We have a Library of previous council brew spells, Magic items, classes and the like. Library in Archive (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-450096.html) And I plan to start a more epic/heroic Council of Archmage Roleplaying thread in the near future, though until it is created you’ll just have to be satisfied with Conscientia. How Do I Join the Council of Archmage? Well it’s quite simple, Ever Archmage in the council specializes in something. That specialization is called a domain. The current taken domains are: Aramar the Black--Archmage of Ice Demonfey--Archmage of Fire Dyne-- Archmage of War Turalisj--Archmage of Serpents, Naga, and other Snakekin Sculyblast-- Archmage of Shadow magic Damior--Archmage of Abjuration CaptainShar – Archmage of Snowballs Master of Flames - Archmage of Wastelands Thasis - Archmage of Death Frostbite ravenheart - Archmage of Music and Enchantments Make sure you don’t pick a too Strong or Vague Domain, such as Archmage of Dragons, Archmage of Armageddon, Archmage or Wizardy, etc Our Current Thread keeper is DemonFey, Obey him. ________________________________________ ____________ For Clearity and Surveillance I mentioned most of our former thread here. Many Former Threads are Archived, those can be contacted at Council.of.Archmages@hotmail.com Note that there is no one maintaining that email adress, it is merely a way of saving the threads, if you wish to see any of the threads, pm me and I’ll send you the password, Maybe In the future we’ll find a Site to Archive our threads on Former Council of Archmage Mainthreads The Council of Archmages (first threads ever): Deleted, alas The Council of Archmages (2.0th thread): In Archive The Council of Archmages (2.2th thread): Deleted, and of no value Coa's first forum: Deleted Little thread, created by finwe to lure more DnD boards to the CoA forums: Deleted, and of no value Council of Archmages - Reloaded (Third thread): In Archive CoA (Fourth thread): In Archive CoA's second forum: To be Archived soon CoA at Conforums (http://archmages.conforums.com/) The Council of Archmages (Fifth thread) In Archive Council of Archmages (sixth thread): In Archive The CoA philosophy mailing list Deleted The Council of Archmages V7 to be archived soon, Thread 7 (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-331988.html) (Unofficial) Council of Archmages V8 to be archived soon, Thread 8 (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=533268) Council Libraries I, II, III and IV All in Archive. Council of Archmages, The Tyrrany of Xantoflamis in Archive I don’t know whether or not I should ad Renegate archmages to this list, the Rpg didn’t attribute to much, and nothing interesting was done during it. Only the gathering of some players and the other mages being ******. Conscientia, The Academy of Magic: part 1: to be archived Conscientia I (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-505189.html) part 2: current version Good, if I forget to mention anything, please warn me. p.s.I am planning to save Chat dialogues about the council and such documents in the Archive as well, if any of you have any left, please tell me. p.p.s. Also I need to Write a full account on the In game Council history, is there anyone who cares to enlighten me on the Out of Game History For the Gaps when I wasn’t in the council? -Sculyblast, former Zenith Archmage of Shadow Magic |
| sculyblast05-25-07, 01:15 PM | I just posted a Spell thread in the Magic and Spells forum in the DnD Section. I named it "The Archmage's Spellbook", It deals with Spells and Magic items Created in the Previous Eight threads of the council, which are currently accessible in the CoA Library. in the thread we Check if they are balanced, and if they are not suggestions are offered to correct them. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12498824#post12498824 |
| Damior05-25-07, 02:26 PM | Aha! First post "Hm, I seem to have joined at the right time, a spell contest would be an excellent opportunity to prove myself. I think I shall enter when it begins." |
| Aramar the Black05-26-07, 01:54 AM | No no, your post is the third. ;) I will be in charge of the spell contest; and for clarifications, it will be a contest for the creation of new spells, and I think I shall determine some sort of "theme" as soon as possible. If I spurt nothing before the weekend is up, you can all hunt me down. Sculy, if you're writing an IG history, then you've got multiple stories to choose from: IFGW, the RPGs we've played, and if you look in the Archives, both Finwe and Bait have takes on Histories. |
| Dyne05-26-07, 03:01 AM | A "theme" for the contest should be based more on the utility of the spells than their flavor. For example, the first contest could be to create a spell that hinders opponents in a unique way (ability drain, penalties, etc.), or it could be any spell that allows you to command other creatures, and such. That way, since each of us seem to prefer certain "themes" (reflected in our Archmage domains), we aren't limited to something that we aren't familiar with/don't prefer to use. So if I prefer undead themes (for example), I could create all sorts of undead spells that would fit all the different "themes" of the contests while each having different uses. |
| sculyblast05-26-07, 06:16 AM | on a side note, should I count the Thread Renegate Archmages as a roleplaying thread, or should we just ignore it. Just like to roleplaying threads "demonbinder's Birthday" and "zollex Cheese" on the Conforums? I mean, the Background for the Thread wasn't that Great, it didn't attribute to anything, and it didn't have a lot of post. if you guys choose to recognise it as a full rpg thread, I want to discuss a proper ending, which is in correspendance with the demands of both parties, and has a relation to the OoC actuallity of The CoA. sculy. |
| sculyblast05-27-07, 02:12 PM | aramar, where can I find the histories of Finwe and Bait? sculy |
| Aramar the Black05-27-07, 06:42 PM | Well, the Renegade Archmages RPG is currently happening, so don't worry about it now; we (or the future Council) can decide later if it deserves to be included in the "canon" history. Sculy, follow the link in my Sig to the Library; it's about the 16th post down; not that far in the thread as a whole. Aye, Dyne, I was thinking utility-wise. Although, you mention flavor, and it could be interesting to have a contest to make the most "fun" spell. Like the old Don't Fear the Reaper Spell. My first thought is a spell that deals with creating some sort of bond/fusion between two creatures; whether it be physical, mental,or spiritual, far or near. Barring that, I'm personally a sucker for utility spells; or a way to harm a foe and not worry about (avoid) thier Spell Resistance. So, this being the end of the weekend, I will say that the spell contest involves spell that deal with mixing/switching two types of creatures (or parts of creatures) in some way. |
| sculyblast05-28-07, 05:51 AM | actually, I quite lost interest in Renegate Archmages and am planning to just stop with it. it is going nowhere. sculy |
| LordOfWolves06-10-07, 02:14 PM | Hi all, a quick question. I've been reading through the "unofficial" Council of Archmages thread but I'm still only at page 11. I'd like to join but I'm unsure of where to post. Is this the new thread or are both being used? |
| Aramar the Black06-10-07, 07:05 PM | Here is good. May as well encourage it while we have it. What domain would you like? |
| Master_of_Flames06-10-07, 07:11 PM | is*the*position*of*archmage*of*wasteland s*open? |
| Dyne06-10-07, 07:24 PM | Hi all, a quick question. I've been reading through the "unofficial" Council of Archmages thread but I'm still only at page 11. I'd like to join but I'm unsure of where to post. Is this the new thread or are both being used? This is the new thread, but people aren't really posting here probably because Sculyblast jumped the gun a bit in creating it (I believe Demonfey is still the guildmaster/threadkeeper, so he would've been the one to post a new thread). Then again, the entire forum is in a lull, so not many people are posting anywhere right now. |
| Aramar the Black06-10-07, 07:29 PM | is*the*position*of*archmage*of*wasteland s*open? Aye. |
| Master_of_Flames06-10-07, 07:33 PM | ok*I'll*lay*claim*to*the*title*since*fir e*is*taken. |
| sculyblast06-11-07, 04:22 PM | This is the new thread, but people aren't really posting here probably because Sculyblast jumped the gun a bit in creating it (I believe Demonfey is still the guildmaster/threadkeeper, so he would've been the one to post a new thread). Then again, the entire forum is in a lull, so not many people are posting anywhere right now. I find that offensive, I created a clear web of possiblities for the existing posters to flourish within the council, but except for Aramar all of you abandoned the thread at the recreation. none of you ever replied to my question on how to align the Renegate archmage thread with the rest of council history or any of the other questions noted in the first post. second to that, Aramar somehow didn't feel like posting the spell contest, which is another reason why no one posts. no person responds to a thread to which isn't responded. ...... that was my 5 minute rant, I hope we can discuss renegate archmages now and I will try to revive the spellbook thread. Aramar, could you please post the spell contest? Master of Flames, welcome to the council, I hope you will enjoy it here. on a side note is there something wrong with your keyboard? I hope it can be fix. if there is nothing wrong, if would like to ask you for a favour: could you please just use spaces instead of Stars? thank you very much Lord of wolves, Welcome to the council, There is no need for you to read through the former threads, because there are eight of them, but if you like doing it, go ahead. you can simply join by stating a domain you would like to master. there is a roleplaying thread: Conscientia, you can have a little fun there if you'd like. sculy |
| Dyne06-11-07, 05:10 PM | I find that offensive I do not mean offense. But with all due respect, you seem to be trying to take control over too many things when you are not actually the guildmaster. Also, Demonfey said that a new thread wasn't necessary at this time, yet you went ahead and posted one anyway. It just seemed like an unnecessary and inappropriate move, with all due respect, and it seems like it may have caused some confusion to posters. As for the "Renegade" Archmages thread, IMHO it should be forgotten. It doesn't look like anything worthwhile happened there, and it doesn't look like anything will any time soon. |
| Aramar the Black06-11-07, 07:20 PM | none of you ever replied to my question on how to align the Renegate archmage thread with the rest of council history or any of the other questions noted in the first post. I apoligize for not filling you in on OoG history, but I'd of probably gotten things mixed up anyway. I did direct you to previous histories, as you said you were writing one. second to that, Aramar somehow didn't feel like posting the spell contest, which is another reason why no one posts. no person responds to a thread to which isn't responded. Actually, I did post the contest; though admittedly, I suppose my post on the subject could well have been misconstrued as a bout of indescision rather than a definitive answer. So, to reiterate, I will give my (new) definitive answer: Spell Contest: Please create a spell that uses multiples schools of magic. |
| thasis06-12-07, 01:17 AM | I wish to return with my old title in-tact. As one of the elders of the boards, and a hopeful future dedication of time to this boards, this might be a good place to be active in. |
| Aramar the Black06-12-07, 01:38 AM | Of course. Your title has not been taken. You are most welcome back. |
| sculyblast06-12-07, 02:30 AM | I do not mean offense. But with all due respect, you seem to be trying to take control over too many things when you are not actually the guildmaster. Also, Demonfey said that a new thread wasn't necessary at this time, yet you went ahead and posted one anyway. It just seemed like an unnecessary and inappropriate move, with all due respect, and it seems like it may have caused some confusion to posters. well, I posted it might be better to start a new Thread, seeing how I was going to start some new initiatives and a new thread would be a bit clearer for new members, then I posted the request to post a new thread, and after everyone posted on the old thread but failed to answer my question, I assumed no one minded and just went ahead. sculy |
| sculyblast06-12-07, 02:32 AM | I wish to return with my old title in-tact. As one of the elders of the boards, and a hopeful future dedication of time to this boards, this might be a good place to be active in. thasis, what used to be your title? once I have it I'll put it in the opening post. sculy |
| Aramar the Black06-12-07, 02:55 AM | He's the Archmage of Death. |
| thasis06-13-07, 12:43 AM | Mmmhmmm, if I remember correctly that was it. |
| LordOfWolves06-14-07, 06:21 PM | I would like the title of Archmage of Sword Magic if that is available. Some questions: Are there specific rules for spells using several schools of magic? Is it just any spell that covers two schools? Are there any other parameters to this competition? Finally, when do they have to be completed by? |
| sculyblast06-14-07, 07:30 PM | I find the quest of creating two school spells a bit odd myself, though, once I get to it, I think I'll figure something out. as for your domain Sword magic, no it is not taken. thus granted Though I have to admit I am curious in what ways you would want to make this more specific. I mean, Wizards Created a book that is one third based on my Domain (Shadow magic). even though I don't like what they did to shadow magic in the Tome of magic, Shadow magic appeals to the general imagination. I really am curious what creative ideas you have about Sword magic. I have to confess, my poor imagination stops at creating magical swords. I hope you will suprise me with great Ideas about sword magic which will change my current views on gaming and just randomly hand out DMG Magical items sculy Ps. also, maybe We should propose the Thread in the Guildhouse called "the Warlock Cicle" a fusion. The thread has a few active members which check in once in a while, but the bulk of the members left, just like over here. Also Feel free to respond to the thread "The Archmages Spellbook" Linked in the Second post of this thread. the thread deals with Spells in the councils library, it checks if they are balanced and Poses suggestions to make them more balanced if they are not. Thank you all. |
| Dyne06-14-07, 08:04 PM | I would like the title of Archmage of Sword Magic if that is available. Hmm, very close to my own domain of "Archmage of War". Interesting. A spell of multiple schools is an odd challenge, but I'll see what I can come up with. |
| Aramar the Black06-14-07, 11:20 PM | I wanted something unique. And dual-school spells have appealed to me lately. @LoW: Dual-school spells are a recent desgin idea, presented in some Dragon articles and the PH II. As far as rules, it is often thought that a wizard cannot learn a dual-school spell if he is prohibited from even one of the schools. I'm being pretty open on this thing; two (or more) schools is hard enough without additional requirments. Time....how's two weeks sound? The 28th? |
| LordOfWolves06-15-07, 08:01 PM | I really am curious what creative ideas you have about Sword magic. I have to confess, my poor imagination stops at creating magical swords. Sword magic is the combination of swordsmanship and magical skill. I don't just mean being good at both, I mean using one to compliment the other and vice versa. I'm working on a PrC at the moment- the Swordmage (Working title :P). The mage imbues a weapon with a part of themselves. This both augments the weapon and their magic. I haven't decided exactly how this'll work yet but some ideas I'm toying with include the ability to use their weapon as a focus for spells, channel spells through their weapon and change their spells (metamagic?) if they're using the weapon. I know this is a lot and I probably won't use all of these abilities in the PrC but it's a start. Munchkinism's also countered by the fact that they are linked to one weapon and one only. If the weapon is damaged, they incur a penalty and if it is destroyed, the effect would be about the same as losing a familiar. If any of you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. if I can find the time to bring it all together, I'll post it here for a critique. Dyne- I was kinda worried I'd be stepping on your toes a bit. It dosen't pay to irratate the Archmage of War...:D |
| Dyne06-15-07, 08:26 PM | Dyne- I was kinda worried I'd be stepping on your toes a bit. It dosen't pay to irratate the Archmage of War...:D That's all right, perhaps we could work together on some ideas. I'm a big fan of war-type magic and classes (probably why so many of my characters end up as Eldritch Knights). |
| LordOfWolves06-17-07, 05:26 PM | Just out of curiosity, does the council still RP on the main thread anymore or is it just on Legends of the Guilds and so on? Do you have characters? |
| Aramar the Black06-17-07, 05:41 PM | Yes and no.We have "in-character" personas that we use on and off, but we're not really a part of the IFGW. We used to do a lot of active RP soley within the council itself; coups and games and everything. |
| thasis06-17-07, 11:57 PM | I'd probally participate more if their was more RPing going on. That's the main reason I come to the Guild House anyways. |
| Niek06-18-07, 09:27 AM | Same here |
| LordOfWolves06-18-07, 03:42 PM | Ah but here's the difficult part, if we were to RP, in what way would we do it? The Renegade Archmages looked promising but I think Sculy is going to cancel it. An idea that just occured to me. Why not try some of the arcane competitions in Complete Arcane? Formalised Spellduels, The Grand Illusion, The Spire Perilous? Just as a bit of fun. What do you think? |
| Aramar the Black06-18-07, 06:11 PM | Aye, the whole Renegade Archamges thing could have been interesting; there was just a lot of taunting and such befroe anything really happened, and I don't think sculy was able to get a good renegade force up and going. Not his complete fault, of course. The arcane competitions sound interesting, now that I think about it. They require stats, though, which means we are all going to have to agree on ECLs. |
| thasis06-19-07, 01:12 AM | I think we need a thread dedicated for such a tournment, kinnda like the arena Orcy set up previously. Or we could use that arena with Orcy's permission. We could have diffrent levels of tournement. A low level (somewhere like 5th level) a high level (somewhere like 15th level) and a epic level (somewhere like 40th level). What we could do is create a single character and advance him to 5th level, record his stats, advance him to 15th level, record his stats, and advance him to 40th level, and record his stats again. And say that depending on the degree of tournement, the arena limits the competitors powers to that specific level. Intresting idea? |
| Aramar the Black06-19-07, 10:18 AM | Quite. |
| LordOfWolves06-19-07, 01:42 PM | Roughly how many people do you think would participate? |
| Niek06-19-07, 01:53 PM | I would, though lvl 40 seems a bit high, even for epics. Maybe 30 would be a better choice? |
| LordOfWolves06-19-07, 01:57 PM | What about people who aren't familiar with Epic-level spellcasting? This could give some an advantage over others. Unless we stuck to normal spell levels? |
| Aramar the Black06-19-07, 01:59 PM | I would, though lvl 40 seems a bit high, even for epics. Maybe 30 would be a better choice? I can see where you're coming from, but in the olden days, we of the council used to do things with lvl 40-50 characters. ( not that it never got out of hand) |
| LordOfWolves06-19-07, 02:28 PM | I can see where you're coming from, but in the olden days, we of the council used to do things with lvl 40-50 characters. ( not that it never got out of hand) ...oh :mymy: Aren't gods lv. 40-50? |
| thasis06-19-07, 02:35 PM | Depends, quite a few people have houseruled against that, and made gods post-rules. That's what I generally do in my campaign settings. Either that or I put them so high that your never realy going to get to that level. The farthest I've ever gotten in a campaign, was one I was DMing, and my cousin soloed and got his character to level 105. That was like 10 days of straight playing (we were up at a Cabin, we didn't have much else to do). |
| LordOfWolves06-19-07, 05:17 PM | If you're lv. 100 and the Gods are still far more powerful than you then what the hell were you playing against? DM: You are attacked by a swarm of augmented half-dragon, half-fiend, half fiendish dragon, warblade tarresques. PC: Aw man ...again? |
| thasis06-19-07, 10:42 PM | Well in my world level 100 isn't actualy that high. Like for the general populace yes, but as far as it's been seen to go, no. At the time he was attempting to destroy a high level cleric of Pelor I think. After that we decided to make him a demigod (demigods come anywhere from level 100 up, it's just past that it's near impossible to reach). As for the duels, for people who aren't familiar or intrested in epic levels, that's why we'd have the 5th and 15th level. I just picked 40th level for the epic because that's when it really starts to become cool epic, and wizards can have a LOT of fun with epic spells and the such. |
| Master_of_Flames06-20-07, 02:11 AM | The more epic you get, the more broken the rules become. |
| thasis06-20-07, 02:51 AM | Depending on who the DM is really. It's only as broken as the DM lets it get. |
| Lady Rolindin06-21-07, 03:48 AM | The ideal of having the arena is a good ideal, there are sites that let players with epic spell battles, epic fighters battle it out. (there are no limits to levels, just need to be close in levels to battle. Magical epic spell battles are fun to view in some ways.) Doing the same thing here would attract more players. Having partaked in a few epic spell battles (in the different epic arena's, and against other epic spell casters in different worlds.) with my dwarven arch mage does help make your charcter stronger. Having arcived most of the guilds in the library 4 should help this guild. Thus giving a lot of knowledge and history to the newer arch mages. I do like my title of The Netheril Arch mage and would like to keep it. Most of the knowledge and spells, magic items, classes, races should stay with the coa in what every form the coa takes. |
| sculyblast06-21-07, 12:25 PM | I do not want to sound stern, but mage battles just for the sake of mage battles, sounds very pokemon-like to me. I think we can intergrate an system of mage battles in a future roleplaying thread, which will make mage battles neccisary between mages from different sides. For example, if we should restart the renegate archmages thread, we have two groups of Mages who could duel each others. also, there is another guild, "the warlock circle" it has been dying the last past months, maybe we should suggest them a fusion. also, everyone please reply thread called "the archmages spellbook", it is described and linked in the second post of this thread. sculy |
| LordOfWolves06-21-07, 03:39 PM | I do not want to sound stern, but mage battles just for the sake of mage battles, sounds very pokemon-like to me. Mage-battles have a long tradition in fantasy of being used to test a mage's nerve, skill and imagination. It's no more "pokemon-like" than warriors dueling or entering tournaments to test their ability. Also, it's not only fighting, there are two tests of skill -the Spire Perilous and the Grand Illusion- as well as the dueling. I think the council throwing an Arcane tourney will present enough of a RP reason to duel. Also, it will lead to non-lethal duels as opposed to potentially lethel duels if there is a grudge involved. | Demonfey06-21-07, 04:27 PM | It only becomes pokemon in battles between summoners.;) |

The way it should work is if a wizard from the counsel gets involved in the guild wars. This has happened before, wizards from the coa not to be helping one side or the other. The coa was neutral at that time. The fact remains that wizards helped one side our the other. What could be done about this: the areana, make the epic wizard duel for thier lives against one of the wizard's from the counsel who will enforce the punshiment of nonentefearment of the guild wars game. That sounds like fun, but no matter what we do, the main question is, will people participate? yes the offending wizard will have to, or if two wizards can't get along. Then let them battle it out in the areana. Who will we send as envoy to the Warlock's Circle? What do the rest of the council think? would not hurt to ask them. sculyblast having high level arch wizards battle it out is not any thing like a battle wizards battle. Most of the areana's I have visted on other sites, are for epic level characters of any class. Not all the wizards are battle wizards, most are regular wizards who are epic level casters, and the player wishs to test out their wizard. See how they fair against another epic level wizard, or figher/ wizard. This was done on both side of the guild wars, if we had an areana to take the coa offending wizard's too for breaking the neutrality stand. Then alot could have been done to restore the blance of the game. pokeman like, not at all: a fight to the death for the offending wizard or sorcerer. |

| Aramar the Black06-22-07, 12:53 PM | Alrighty, to summerize: - Gerald volunteers to be an envoy to the Warlock Circle. I myslef raise no objection; what say the rest of the Council? - It appears that a fair number of active members are intrested in some sort of arcane competition, of varying levels and challenges. It should be noted that not all members necassarily need compete at every level and in every challenge. Where will we hold these competions? Who (singgular and plural) wants to get things organized and be the arbitrator(s)? - Entries in the Spell contest are due before July 1st. The only criteria is that the spell be of two schools. - The thread "The Archmage's Spellbook" could use some activity. Anyone willing to offer critique of Council Spells is invited to post. |

To me it should be a punishment for breaking the non enterferance rule of the game, giving an advantage to one side or the other. All other magic realted things could be authorized by the GM's (whom ever they will be?). This could be used as done before to train guilds in spells or to make magic items for that guild. Or we could use Armar's school to train the guild members the spell they request to learn, this is up to you Armar if you wish to use your school for this. we should get gm's permission to do thiese things, and not do things brhind the gm's back as done before. - Entries in the Spell contest are due before July 1st. The only criteria is that the spell be of two schools. The spell contest does give me some ideals for spells though. - The thread "The Archmage's Spellbook" could use some activity. Anyone willing to offer critique of Council Spells is invited to post. Of course some ideals did come to me as far as the "Archmages Spell book' thread. How I got the ideal is my husban bought me a Kit Rea sword, Valermos "The sword of Fire". What spells could wizards use to make such specialty swords and weapons. Valermos is a flame tounge, and sharpness, and controls the spirt's. Even shadow spirts. The Ten Swords (of Kit Rae) The primary Swords of the Ancients in the tale were ten swords created by the Ancient Ones. They are: Kilgorin The Sword of Darkness. It gave the wielder power to bring darkness and enchantment over ones enemies. It derived its strength from the Neverworld and was possessed of a great evil by many years of use by the Dark One. Elexorien The Sword of War. It gave the wielder strategic power and command to unify great multitudes for a single cause. Forged by Mahgnim, it was used in the Black War by Queen Vaelen. Morthoseth The Sword of the Shadows. It influenced mortals by its power over the shadow world of thoughts and dreams. It was wielded by Vardor and Borloth in the War of the Shadows. Luciendar The Sword of Light. It revealed to the user that which was hidden and showed the true nature of creatures, both natural and enchanted. It was wielded by Barlodir in the War of the Shadows. Anathros The Sword of the Earth. It gave the user power to reshape the earth and its elements and was wielded by the king of the Uldurin and later by Aluen in the Shadow War. Valermos The Sword of Fire. It gave the user the ability to command creatures in spirit form and created and controlled the flames of Ammon. It was wielded by Vardor in the Shadow War. Cinthorc The Sword of Justice. Cinthorc had the power to deal just punishment to wrongdoers, seen through the eyes of the wielder as being wrongful. It was wielded by the sorceress Morgolien in the extermination of the Mithrodin, and later by Vaelen. Molotoch The Slayer Sword. The user received boundless skill and speed from the sacred blade, as well as great focused rage to beat down an enemy. Mere mortals could not even lift this enchanted weapon. It was wielded by Naegolus in the slaying of the Mithrodin. Avaquar The Sword of the Deep. Avaquar held power over the waters and seas. It was forged by Mahgnim and was the mate of Anathar. Vaelen wielded it in the Last Battle. Anathar The Sword of Power. The last of the Ten Swords to be forged, Anathar held within it a part of each of the powers of the other nine. It was forged by the elf Toukol and wielded by Naegolus in the Last Battle. |
| LordOfWolves06-22-07, 05:06 PM | I also have no objection to sending an envoy to the Warlock's circle. As far as an arbitrator for the competition, perhaps a nuetral party from outside the council might be best. If nobody has any objection, I'll try to organise the competition but between work and just about everything else I can't always use the internet regularly. :( If we are to merge with the Warlocks, maybe the Tournament should wait until then. It would be a good way to celebrate bringing the groups together and provide a good IG reason to have one. Opinions? EDIT: Lady Rolindin just reminded me that we are not agreed on how to implement this competition. The two options seem to be A) Lethal dueling as punishment for breaking CoA laws. Or B) A formal (non-lethal) tournament as a test of skill. We need to vote first on which to do. |
| Lady Rolindin06-22-07, 05:20 PM | LordOwolfs]EDIT: Lady Rolindin just reminded me that we are not agreed on how to implement this competition. The two options seem to be A) Lethal dueling as punishment for breaking CoA laws. Or B) A formal (non-lethal) tournament as a test of skill. We need to vote first on which to do. The way we could have dueling contest is like in one of the Fr books: they did this in Halruaa. They have wizards contests that you have two circles. One wizard in each circle. The object is to make the other wizard move out of their circle. When you make the other wizard move out of their circle then you win. A big sport in Halruaa. wizard duals to see is the most powerful. We could use Orcy's areana for this, and place wages on wicth wizard will win. Orcy's could do this if we ask him. |
| Niek06-22-07, 07:53 PM | "So am I free to send word to the Warlocks Circle?" |
| thasis06-23-07, 02:45 AM | I agree, we should wait until/if we merge with the Warlock's Circle and use it as a in-game inspiration for these tournements. Also, I'd be willing to help schedule these tournaments, but my commitment might be limited, as I am engaged in many other outer-D&D and inner-D&D projects. |
| Lady Rolindin06-23-07, 04:53 AM | Niek "So am I free to send word to the Warlocks Circle?" Yes please do. Another thing that crossed my mind is Mage Fares! The COA has never held a Mage Fare, we could set one up for the characters from the different guilds, and have all the other classes come also. This would show the guilds that the COA does have interest in what is happeing and also let them know that we would like to see their magical skills and we could show them ours. Such as Ed Greenwood said, that all wizards, sorcerers and other class that can use magic such as a fire ball. Each one is different according to how the magic user shapes it and the different colors they use. Each magic user fireball is unquie according to the user. WE could have a good show for all to see. Of course we would have to arange this with the new gm's as for dates and such. If the rest of you think this is a good ideal. |
| sculyblast06-23-07, 07:27 AM | niek, I would request you to first post your "reply to the Warlock circle" thread in our thread so we can check if it is not too offense, too bold, too childlike. We do want the Warlock Circle to have a good impresion of us and want them to join you. I am posting this because I have no knowledge about your skills with words. good luck writing a beautifull reply. sculy |
| LordOfWolves06-23-07, 08:59 AM | Yes please do. Another thing that crossed my mind is Mage Fares! The COA has never held a Mage Fare, we could set one up for the characters from the different guilds, and have all the other classes come also. Sounds perfect. |
| Niek06-23-07, 10:36 AM | Ok, here goes. "It has come to the attention of the Council of Archmages that your guild has become somewhat inactive as of late. Likewise, we too have had a recent decline in participation. It is the oppinion of the Council that the best course of action to benefit both our parties would be a merger of our two guilds. You warlocks are, afterall, fellow practitioners of the arcane arts, albeit in a different manner than most of our members. I await your response." -Lord Gerald Deaus, Governor of Monim Province, Archmage Graduate of the Academy of the Guiding Moon, Heir of Petor, and Archmage of Abjuration |
| sculyblast06-23-07, 12:46 PM | very eloquent, if no one has any objections to the text you are free to post it. sculy |
| thasis06-23-07, 05:27 PM | Sounds good! Very well crafted. |
| Lady Rolindin06-24-07, 12:40 AM | THe letter is well written, and should help. Ideals for the mage fair and guild fair. The guild wizards and other casters could have a magic contest, in the circles. If there is enough from the guilds, (from the current talks of 15 level's starting again), there could be 1st place: Master Champion, 2nd place Champion: 3rd place: standing Champion. By the same way of making the other magic user move out of their circle. We could have the fighter's guild contest with the same champion ranks. We would have to ask the gm's if in other such contests that the three winners be awarded gold and a magic item also? The contests I have had characters in before usally won for 1st place Master Champion 10,000 to 15,000 gold and two magic items. 2nd place Champion 10,000 to 7,500gp and 1 magic item, 3rd place Standing champion 2,500 to 5,000gp and one magic item. of course these gold prices and magic item prizes are for 10 to 15th level charcters winners. So should we have a guild fighter contest also or not? |
| Aramar the Black06-24-07, 05:43 PM | Wait; a competition between fighting types, or a competition based off a fighter's competition? I assume the latter; but I just want to make sure. |
| Lady Rolindin06-24-07, 08:28 PM | Aramar the Black Wait: A competition between fighting types, or a competition based off a fighter's competition? I assume the latter; but I just want to make sure. We could have both, one fighting with weapons and one with a monk type. Or we could combuine both and have weapon and monk type's. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have played characters in such tournament's. I had a dwarf in one such a tournament in a dwarfven hall between clans. The way you would win is a judge would have adifferent colored flag in each hand. The only way to win was to score 20 points. To win a point, you had to use the flat side of your weapon, and hit your oppoint only in the upper body, no head shots. When you scored a hit the judge would rise a flag to the fighter with that color, and anounce 1 point. If you hit above or below the striking area: you would lose a point. A score keepr would anouce the score then, such as Kern in the red 5 points, Arn in the purple 8 points. My dwarf fighter won Champion standing, but was very sore from all the hits. Flat edge of the sword, or flat side of a war hammer, or war axe. The other was an half elven fighter, who did not make the top three. You can wear your armor, it does help some. |
| redhase06-25-07, 11:43 PM | A red mist appears amounst all the wizards talking. Then a red robe clad figure with red eyes and dark red hair then looks at them and laughs. The figure then disapears in a red mist again, before she disappears you hear in the whispery red mist, " So it begains anew, I'll be around here and there ." |
| Aramar the Black06-25-07, 11:51 PM | I love how old members just seem to come back randomly. And its even better that it all at the same time. |
| redhase06-26-07, 11:12 PM | Well it seems a party of sorts is being orgizined for the characters, with prizes to boot. Armar does your acamdeny have necromancers teachers who teach the black arts? |
| Aramar the Black06-26-07, 11:58 PM | Ah, the material benefits always brig them back..... We currently have no necromancers on the academy staff. |
| redhase06-27-07, 12:48 AM | Then it's too bad my arch wizard being a true necromance, diabolist can't use the plagues on the crowds at the fair. It would be such fun too kill so many. But you gm's won't allow her to do so, but if an evil character wished to learn how to make the plagues and use them, that would be fine by me. The Medusa plague would be so fun to let loose at the gathering. Youy do need a necromancer, one who loves to use necromance spells and vile magic and show others who like to kill by spells and vile magic. |
| Aramar the Black06-27-07, 01:56 AM | Always with the killing....... We have no necromancers, but we do have abjurors and other high-level magi (and divine casters) who would not stand idly by as you pestered the fair. |
| redhase06-27-07, 02:10 AM | What else is there, you understand death. Then you learn how to best others. I did say it would be good to use a plague or plagues on the gathering, but one can dream of such things. |
| Aramar the Black06-27-07, 02:23 AM | There is understanding life. |
| redhase06-27-07, 03:23 AM | Aramar the Black There is understanding life. To understand death is to learn about life also. We of the necromancy field just tend to focus more on the death part. But you have to learn how life works also, or how else can you make a living dead. Such a nice thing to do to a goody fighter type, turn them into a living undead and have them obey your every command. If there is a fiend killed you can be sure that one of my people will be there to gather parts, unless the arch wizard of death beats mine there. You do know you can subsitute body parts for spells, an heart of a devil or demon is very powerful and adds more power to a spell. This place does need a dread necromancer to make things interesting. |
| sculyblast06-27-07, 10:10 AM | Let me request this once again: I just posted a Spell thread in the Magic and Spells forum in the DnD Section. I named it "The Archmage's Spellbook", It deals with Spells and Magic items Created in the Previous Eight threads of the council, which are currently accessible in the CoA Library. in the thread we Check if they are balanced, and if they are not suggestions are offered to correct them. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthrea...4#post12498824 sculy |
| Aramar the Black06-27-07, 10:52 AM | To understand death is to learn about life also. We of the necromancy field just tend to focus more on the death part. But you have to learn how life works also, or how else can you make a living dead. I have seen many who claim to be the "living dead"'; that is not life. You do know you can subsitute body parts for spells, an heart of a devil or demon is very powerful and adds more power to a spell. I know. But this is where such things dance the line between necrology and alchemy. This place does need a dread necromancer to make things interesting. So long as said necromancer doesn't have any designs against the Council. @sculy: Infuriating, isn't it? ;) Believe me, I'd post there, but I think the last three posts are mine; I've done bumping and offered critisism. |
| sculyblast06-27-07, 10:58 AM | The problem with you and me posting, Aramar: it is clear that we have some sort of responsiblity to the thread, bumping it in that way would not lure in new posters which are potential members. if your members however would take a little trouble in looking at the spells and posting it, the thread may become fruitfull. hmzz, I must make up another way to get non-guildhouse members into the council, once that is done we can start appointing responsiblities and I can leave. sculy |
| Aramar the Black06-27-07, 11:07 AM | ooh, so now they're "my" members. It is true; many people disregard/forget/whatever looking into information linked off-thread, and often in signitures. This doesn't apply only here; but it is affecting here. I can really think of nothing short of relocating the Council that would draw new members, other than starting threads which exhibit council material. |
| Niek06-27-07, 01:04 PM | The warlocks circle appears to have had more off a drop off than previously thought, ie, it was completely abandoned when I got there and is still completely abandoned after I left. What to do now? |
| sculyblast06-27-07, 01:20 PM | I think you are being a tad to impatient, the thread had two replies today, that is more that in the last 2 weeks, so I think they will Eventually come to an understanding whether to join us or not. I think I'll throw in a little reply to parry the negativeness of the last reply by drake. I do think we should not mess around in that thread too much and give the thread an opinion of their own. sculy ps. Aramar another option is to start a roleplaying thread in the Map of the planes. If we want to keep it simply I could restart Renegate archmages, plan out the moves a bit, and have NPC Characters support me in the begining to make sure quarius has enough supporters. |
| Niek06-27-07, 02:18 PM | Those two posts I did not see until just this moment. |
| redhase06-27-07, 05:12 PM | And you believe that your the only two has feels some kind of responsiblty to the thread. WE all have things we need to do as indivuals, the guild has never really had all the arch wizards present at the same time. Just as long as you make some attempt to vistie in some form does help. We should hope that the past does not repeat it self and things happen as before. Much has gone on in the past and very little done to stop things from happening. Such vague talk is not vague to those who where there, and know what the coa members are capabile of. |
| Lady Rolindin06-27-07, 06:01 PM | Lets see whats been going on since I've been busy else where. After reading the posts, let me say that we are trying to take care of such things as wizards helping when their not suppost to. That is why the contests for the offending wizard, so it will make them think about it. As for a necromancer's in the guild we had them before, they are welcome. Like I said before keep your undead to your area and don't let them escape. Or the guild might have to take them back to the necromancer, the first time, the second time they can be destroyed. Thats the rule of thumb I use, first time take back the wizards or sorcerer's creations to them. After that it is up to the wizrd to deal with the creation. Since some do like to make living constructs and play with them. Unless someone else would like to talk about necromancers undead being set loose in the hall. And how to deal with them. If an evil character wishes to try and learn how to make the things you make then they need to go through the gms first. If it is allowed by the gm's to sabtague the event then that can happen. BUt run all ideals of such by the gm's first. Such as the event for the characters, will be ran through the gms, for the characters and they will have to decide upon prizes. If they allow that. Sponcership with the guilds could be a good thing. |

| redhase06-28-07, 04:12 PM | Sculyblast are you talking about aproximately thread 7 t/m 8 or are you talking about thread 1 t/m 6 ( which is what I am talking about) Whae I,m talking about are two issues. First, we as indivuals have different time tables that we live and only certant amount of time can we give to the tread. The game, and we have to make time to do so sometimes. 2nd in the past certain wizards ahve used their powers to do things to help eithter side of the guild wars. Not the first time this has been done. Stick around for 1 or 2 generations of the games and you will see wizards helping the side they like. Good and evil. Now that being said lets do try to obey the rules this time. |
| sculyblast06-28-07, 05:51 PM | Well, some people may be dealing with intensive time tables, but in my view the Council has always been supported by members of juvenile Age, whom have loads of time and, because they enjoy being in the council, gladly spend some time on organizing the Foundation. As for the guild wars.... I thought we always remained Neutral, then again, I always ignored them. sculy |
| Aramar the Black06-28-07, 11:26 PM | The Council itself remained nuetral, though individual members were allowed to aid other guilds, if they were so inclined. So long as they didn't attack the Council. the guild has never really had all the arch wizards present at the same time. No kidding. Over two hundred official members, yet only a fraction of that active at a time. Still, though, our growth rate has slowed. It gets worrying when the oldies are away long enough that one things they're gone forever. We can't all turn into "lurkers/watchers", or we shall simply watch this place fade into oblivion. |
| thasis06-29-07, 01:15 AM | I tend to lurk until something intresting happens that I can actualy contribute to. |
| redhase06-29-07, 04:51 AM | Sculyblast: As for the guild wars.... I thought we always remained Neutral, then again, I always ignored them. It's too bad other wizards from past games haven't done the same. I try too ignor them also. Lets just hope this group can not get envolved in the games behind the gm's backs. Making things is much better and such as the Plauges I made. It would be good to train lower wizard on how to make them from an evil guild, them have them release them on the gathering. I have no control over evil wizards "who are gm approved" to learn such things or what they do with them. Aramar The Black We can't all turn into "lurkers/watchers", or we shall simply watch this place fade into oblivion. Then how about trying to pm the old members and see how many come back. If you need help doing so then, others will can help pm them. even for one visite would be kind of nice. |
| Aramar the Black06-29-07, 11:28 AM | Then how about trying to pm the old members and see how many come back. I've tried that. More than once. I think maybe a couple visited, then disappeared again. I tend to lurk until something intresting happens that I can actualy contribute to. Like....a spell contst? (hint, hint) |

| thasis06-29-07, 08:40 PM | A spell contest would be intresting. I'd probally attempt to cut into my creative juicies. We'd need a set of perameters, rules, etc. Ever seen that series of contests in the What's a DM to Do section of the D&D forums? Something under a similiar format maybe? |
| Lady Rolindin06-30-07, 08:49 PM | I'm not trying to take over the contest these are just possibilites for thr contest. You mean Thasis some rules like this witch the Master DM Contests, in the Ask the DM Thread. If so How about something like this for rules. Counsel of Arch Mages Spell contest! The spell must have the following cirtea. One entry per contestant. The spell must be a new orginal spell that you make. The spell must have two or more of the history's involving any of these events: 1. That the spell was need to combat some form or evil or good in the past or will be used in the future. 2. That the spell have been created by one creature. (lore part) 3. The spell has been created by two or more creatuers. (lore part) 4. The spell was lost and now is found. (lore part) 5. The spell is a new creation. (lore part) The spell has two or more schools, any fields. The spell has one or more of the components fields: V, S, M, D, DF, XP How the spell can be judge: Creativy, history, usefullness, castability, readability: Creativy: 1 to 10 points on how creative the overall written article is with the other creatia mixed in. History: 1 to 10 points on the history of the spell, since all spells have a history. Usefullness: 1 to 10 points on how other players from starting dm's to old time dm's and players can use the spell and understand how the spell works. Castabliity:How easy it it for a new dm or player to old player to cast the spell. Can they understand how long it takes to cast the spell and the effects, the materail compontents needed to cast the spell. Readability: Can a new dm or player and older dm and player understand the mechanics of the spell. Do they understand everything about the spell. Can a new palyer or dm be able to read the spell with no proublems, and the rest of the article. Along with the lore of the spell. 1 to 10 points. Ther spell will be judge in each catagory from 1 to 10 points. There are usally 3 judges in the contests, so 3 players can be chosen to be the judges. Once the original spell is posted, then the materail can not be modifed in any way. If this is done then the poster will be disquifited form the contest. They only way to make adjustments to your entry is to have all three judges to agree to the changes. If one says no then the article stays the way it is writtten. If the contestant changes their spell and does not have all three judes agree. Then the contestant will be disquifted with a no score. The article can only be changed one time, with all three judges agreement. The article has to be posted in the time frame posted, if the article is posted after the time limit then the contestant will get a no score. Does this sound fimular, they do judge spell the contest like this on other sites and other places. I have take part of serval contests my self, so I hope these rules do help. You can adjust them or change them if you like. They next thing would be what kind of prize to give. 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place in the players logo, if they win. If the player wishes to put the Http to the contest they can. So others can see what they did. |
| Aramar the Black06-30-07, 10:37 PM | *Hits head against wall several times* Admittely, both of you have rejoined us only recently. "Officially", we have a contest going, with the only parameter being that the spell is a dual-school spell; and the deadline is in three hours. However, given that I'm the only one who has posted any spells (and I'm the judge), we might have to re-issue this thing. |

It would be a good place to talk tabout the Ifgw. A spell contest hasen't been done for awhile, It could help to bring more people here. And annouce that there is another spell contest at the coa thread also. You could run two contest at the same time. Just think about this, it might work. | Demonfey07-10-07, 01:54 AM | OOC: Personally, I just suck at developing spells. IC: Let's look in here first... Dalion looks around. Good to see a couple more mages I know. How've things been here since I got blown up? |
| Lady Rolindin07-10-07, 03:12 AM | "Well Dalion it seems that a spell contest perposed by Armar, but with out some kind of formal settings put forth. There has been some wizards coming and going. Older members contacted, but little replies or vistations from them. Others working on this and that." A though crossed my mind if the Gm's think it's a good ideal. Maybe a contest by players and some kind of rules set forth. Have the GM'S be the judges. Make it connected items, say for the game. two to four items, and the winning items could be placed any where on Trynor the GM's would like to hide them. The connected items could be weapions, weapons and other items, like rings, or bracers, or braclets, or other items. But all items would have some connection to each other. Maybe something like the LOTR rings, or the swords of the ancients by Kit Rea. Maybe a combination of different items, a sword, ring, bracer and another item. any ideal for connection items? What say you Orcy and Armar, you want to judge a contest of connected items and place the winning items on Traynor for the game. Some thing like a lost treasure from Traynor's past. You don't have too, but the ideal has merit. |
| Aramar the Black07-10-07, 12:39 PM | A treasure hunt? |
| Lady Rolindin07-10-07, 06:42 PM | Aramar the Black A treasure hunt? A treasure hunt of sorts, with clues that are vague in nature on how to find them. That depends on how all the gm's look at it. It could be a treasure hunt for the charcters of sorts. The winning entires, (could have master champion, and champion) two sets for the game. You the gm's would place the items in the game, the gms' could leave lore clues to to find the items. Some photo's that might help in desgining the hidding places, if the Gm's do decide to place the items in the game. | Demonfey07-11-07, 11:29 PM | Dal's ears perk up, and his head swings away from anyone he's talking to currently. Ky? He runs off, and flies towards the Halls. |
| Lady Rolindin07-12-07, 09:46 PM | Hello Dal nice of you to visite. Armar and Orcy what kinds of rules would you use, for such a contest? Something like this off the top of my head. IFGW Magical Item contest! The contest is desging to be used the the IFWG as Magical items left over from the creature race or races. The "two or three" (Gm's choice of how many winners will be decided by the gm's) winners Magical items will be placed by the GM's in hidden places, that will vary and will be hard to find. The magical items must be linked with one of them being a master item. The master item along with the other two to three items will give varing magical abilites. By them selfs each magical item will have only various powers, but combined will make the character grreatly magicaly stronger. Rules for the contest: Each set of magical item will consist of one master item, and 2 to 3 other items. The master magical item needs to have one too two major power, and one to two minor powers. The conected magical items need to have two or less minor powers. There should be one master magical "linked" item and two to three minor linked items. The Magical items need to have a lore, this is important. The judging will consist of the following: All magical items will be jugded as a group, and how well they are linked: 1 to 5 points, or you the gms could decide 1 to 10 points. Clairty of the writting 1 to 5 points or 1 to 10 depends on gm's. Lore 1 to 5 ponts or 1 to 10 points Usefullyness of the magic items, 1 to 5 points or 1 to 10 points. (how the magic items work together, and how usefull they are to an character.) spell and grammer are important as always. Any entery can not be changed unless all the judges agree. Meaning once the magical have been posted, you can not make any changes to them, unless the judges (all of them agree.) The two to three prizes can be if the Gms wish them to be so: Master Chamion Champion And Standing champion I have entered in a lot of contests my self, and some time the jugdes do enter the contest and this is how I have seen it handled. With a clause like this: Any judge can enter the contest, but the judge can not judge thier own work. A secondary person will be chosen, usally from the contestants. With a random roll to determine the person and they will judge the written piece by the rules posted You can change the rules armar and Orcy to fit your styles and change them or add other rules. As you see fit to do so. This is just an suggestion on how to run the contest, I would make the contest on the "ask the Dm thread", where all the Master Dm contest's are held. It might just attract new players to the game. |
| Aramar the Black07-13-07, 01:42 PM | However, looking over the Master DM contests of the past, such things are only intended for the creation of treasure hunt/spell/magic item/etc..., and not for an actual playing out of the resulting hunt/NPC/quest/ etc.. Hosting a spell contect there remains an option, but I'm inclined towards the Magic and Spells forum as well. This treasure hunt is a nice idea; though I think it will be best implemented by an RPG thread in our own Legends of the Guilds subforum. |
| Lady Rolindin07-13-07, 09:26 PM | Armar that would be fine witch ever form you use: the "ask the DM," or The Magic and Spell form. If I may when making the rules input something like this in the conrtest rules. Any winning likned magical items will be used on the IFWg site as part off the game. BY partaking in this contest you wave your right to not to have your magical linked items used. The contest is Primary to test one against another to find the best magical linked items that a person can make. The top "two or three : all of the gms choice as to how many 2 or 3," will be palced in the game. a link will be proved below so as for every person entering the contest to view the IFGW. All contestants are welcome to use the link to visite and you are more than welcome to join in the games if you wish too. Something like that would attract some more players, just knowing that they are possible making linked magical items: might nudge some of them to join the IFWG game. And yes a treasure hunt that was made by some ancient race, would be interesting. Magical linked items at that with one master item. Just make sure you: the three gm's hide them well so they can't be found by even magical means. That is why the ancients would be called the creature race's, and should have more than enough magical knowledge and power to hide such items from mortals. I have allready though about what kind of items I could make for such a contest, no matter how I place. |
| Aramar the Black07-14-07, 10:17 PM | Ah, I see what you're getting at. |
| Lady Rolindin07-15-07, 12:44 AM | That is the ideal. By holding a contest of magical limked items with one master item, and let the contestant's disign the items. This will give the Gm's n the game a chance to be a judge or another as judge, but most importantly. It will attract more payers to the IFGW game, since some of the new players might want to find even one of the items and use them. But do make it a contest where the winners can put their placing in their logo box. some players do take pride in winning such contests, and like to show off thier placing to others. Additional thoughts: If other contest were held, such a spell contest. Then have the same disclamier that the winning spells can be used in the IFWG games by the palyers; (once the characters have learned to cast the spell by some one who knows the spell). You still would attract some players. This is up to you Aramar, Orcy, and CaptinShar if you three wish to hold such contest to add such things to the game. It can add more palyers to the game if handled right. You coould even have the more experanced palyers be some of the judges, if one of the gms can't be a judge for some reason. |
| sculyblast07-15-07, 04:20 AM | eyah, I'm back from my two week holiday... and to be honest, I had expected I had to go through more pages. so as to spark up the conversations a little I am going to introduce a new topic. Alternative Spell casting. in 2nd Edition AD&D you could only play a wizard, which you could make more pretty by specialising him in one school. in 3rd edition you have a use amount of spell casting systems, for example, wizards, Sorcerers, psions, Warlocks from unearthed Arcane and Shadow mages from Tome of Magic. I want to hear your opinions on these Classes/ spell casting systems. Do you use them in your game? Do you think they add a lot to the DnD Cosmology? would you have other suggestions that would make alternative spell casting more interesting? or whatever else you feel like posting. sculy |
| Aramar the Black07-15-07, 09:20 PM | It will attract more payers to the IFGW game, since some of the new players might want to find even one of the items and use them. Yes, if they're willing to be a part of the IFGW. Logo Box? I don't think I have that kind of power. Your spell contest disclaimer intrigues me. @Sculy's topic I haven't really looked at anything form the Tome of Magic in enough detail to form opinions on those classes. I personally enjoy Jearom Darkwind's take on the magic classes: A spell-point system, but not something copy-and-pasted from the psion design. Warlocks are interesting; I don't play them in my campaign, but I don't have anything against them. I use a modified version of Szatany's Ultimate classes; Warlock got assimilated into the Sorcerer Class. So long as it's not Vancian casting. |
| Lady Rolindin07-15-07, 10:16 PM | Logo box called the edit signature on the private messages. Players like to put in the place they won and the http to the contest with their entry. Alot of players have them, those who like to advertise their wins. Those who don't like too, don't like me. But they person them selves put up such things them selves. The contest can bring in new palyers. You and the rest of the GM's should think about a linked item contest so to get new views, ideals, creativy, and can also bring new things to the IFGW. Besides attracting some of the contestants to the IFWG. |
| Aramar the Black07-16-07, 07:09 PM | Well then, putting thier win in thier sig is up to them. The GMs have some other pressing issues at the current moment; but this will be on the table, so that it can be considered when we get around to it. If I get any free time myself, however, I'm definitely trying to plan out a linked treaure hunt type adventure to run in the LotG subforum. |
| redhase07-17-07, 07:46 PM | So what about having others then have the contest for the ifgw, then that will allow the gm,s to make the rules. Yes I have been following the talks here. If others were the judges for such a contest, such as the magic linked item or spell contest, that would allow the gm,s to put in the winning items in a search contest. on to other things. You know what spell would be a good one, something thing like this. a spell that allows one to turn say into shadow stuff, but also strike in materail form also. Then turn back into shadow form after the strike or another etherail form. Just a thought for a spell. would be good for a fighter or wizard to use. A wizard could use such a spell cast other spells and have some kind of protection. Kind of like a shadow strike abilities, but in spell form. one might evently turn into shadow creature though. By using such an spell. It would be fun to do such a spell though. |
| Lady Rolindin07-18-07, 10:28 PM | If the gm's don'e mind, me trying to answer this. Redhase pm they about the request and see what they say. As for the spell, might be good to see what can be done with such shadow magic. |
| Lady Rolindin07-18-07, 10:33 PM | doublepost might as well use it. I will review shadow magic and spells and such. So as to be able to commit on the spell. Alot of things to keep fresh in AD&D, and they change with every new update. |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart07-19-07, 06:02 PM | Aha! Sculy, I knew you'd come back. I'll apologize to the rest of you for being such a shoddy threadkeeper and being off the boards for so long. My gaming group was disbanded for several years and likewise I lost interest in these boards and only occasionally posted on them. Now, my group is (finally) comming back together and I've regained interest in the subject. Sculy, I'd like my old title of "Archmage of Music and Enchantments" back. As a side note, I'm really glade you've taken control of things and I shall make *NO* attempt to "take back my throne" or any such things. I'm just back to be a member and I'll be willing to help with anything you ask for sculy. BTW - Hows your project going on? Anyways, It's gonna take me awhile to catch up with everything between what's happend on the boards to what's changed as far as the rules go. I'm far more used to 2 and 3.0than 3.5 and have no clue about many of the supplement books that have probably come out. -Frost |
| sculyblast07-20-07, 08:25 AM | Ha, Frosty, you are the first to realise that the thread Renegate Archamages(see guildhouse roleplaying board) succeeded and that I am in control :P Meh, just kidding. anyway, Since i have been on holiday on two weeks and have no clue what you guys have been conspiring about, i need to be reinformed. how are the deals with the warlock circle going? spellcontests? anyone voluntering to be co-dm in a new CoA Rpg list. What is going on with the wizards spellbook in the Spells forum in the dnd forum? sculy |
| Aramar the Black07-20-07, 01:52 PM | I'll apologize to the rest of you for being such a shoddy threadkeeper and being off the boards for so long. Now, my group is (finally) comming back together and I've regained interest in the subject. It's wonderful to see you again. Sculy, I'd like my old title of "Archmage of Music and Enchantments" back. You should know best of all, Frosty, that such titles are not just tossed away when a member leaves. There's no need to ask for it back; it's already yours. @ Sculy: - Well, we sent Gerard, but niether he nor any word came back, at least that I was aware of. (And on a visit to the thread, it seems that things aren't going that well.) - LR and I have been discussing the best place for such thing. The first contest fizzled out, as no one entered any spells. Look for a renewed contest (possibly with the same theme, however) to show up here and/or in the magic and spells D&D forum. - As for the spellbook thread, it might be best just to start a new one. People have been amazingly uncooperative with the other one. |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart07-20-07, 05:22 PM | Thanks, Aramar! anyone voluntering to be co-dm in a new CoA Rpg list. sculy I don't know if I want to Co-DM (Beacuse I'm so unused to 3.5) but I'm interested and willing to help in whatever small way I can. -Frosty |
| sculyblast07-21-07, 03:21 PM | seriously, Frosty, I don't even know what the chances are in 3.5. my roleplayingthreads are about roleplaying, not about throwing dice. please pm me on details sculy |
| sculyblast07-26-07, 03:48 AM | aramar, I see you have been doing a lot of work on a new council library. I've got most of the CoA threads saved on the Gmail account; is there any website we can save them on so they can be read by the public? sculy |
| Aramar the Black07-26-07, 01:17 PM | Well, most of the threads can be found here in the archives yet (all but the 1st and 2nd). I have a freewebs site that I've been messing around with, here (http://www.freewebs.com/aramar666/), but my concern is with the presentation I assume the threads saved on the g-mail account are in a simple .txt format (notebook or notepad), which is horrifying to try and read. Straitforward copy and pasting onto a web page would be lengthy but simple with some editing. Quotes and tables are always, tricky, however. |
| sculyblast07-26-07, 07:10 PM | their saving is in html files, I simply saved the boards archives on my pc and them emailed them to the Coa account. I don't think anyone in the council is willing to summarise anything that has been desided in the council. in the first six threads it's not that much politics luckily. sculy, the problem with the new council order is that we don't have a high archmage group who related with msn, if we had that the council would be back on track in no time. |

Oh boy. This argument again. Forgetting my personal feelings on having seperate ranks (despite always having a high one :P ) I don't think there are enough active people here to really warrant seperate ranks. I mean, if you really want, just organize a date for people to go on MSN and join a private "Chat group." On another note, I'm planning on trying to making a specific Harry Potter spell from the last book into a DnD spell. If you haven't read the last book and you don't want it ruined, DON'T HIGHLIGHT THE BLACKED OUT SENTENCE. I was playing on trying to make the curse, Fiendfyre, into a high-level Wizard spell. I think it will be 8th level but I may have to move it to 9th level/Epic if it's too strong to fit the flavor I want it to; I'm not trying to perfectly replicate it but rather turn it into an idea appropriate for high-level DnD. I'm planning on making it start for one or two rounds as a moveable, persisting "Fire Storm" like spell and than have it spread and form into demonic/draconic/monsters shapes. It will target enemies but will hurt enemies that get in its way. Enemy spell casters will be unable to use any type of magic water to put it out. I'm not sure if I will make it more difficult than the average spell to dispel however if I do that, I will make it very difficult for the caster to even control it or even make it impossible/difficult for the caster to end the spell himself. I think If I put enough restrictions on the spell, maybe even a corruption cost too, that it will be balanced as a very offensive, very evil, 9th level wizards spell. NOTE: DO NOT HIGHLIGHT THE BLACKNESS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPOILE THE LAST HARRY POTTER BOOK. I choose not to use spoiler tags beacuse spoiler tags are very hard to resist pressing :P. -Frosty |
| sculyblast07-27-07, 05:52 AM | well, the reason I am here is that we are down to 5 posts in 7 days again, I wish the council to be an active thing. and I think rewarding people ranks will motivate people to do something, especially when the other ranks are pushing you in the back to do something. so my call is to all the current members to pick a date on which an msn conversation could be held sculy |
| Aramar the Black07-28-07, 01:21 AM | Well, as soon as I get around to getting MSN, then I'd say next Tuesday or Thursday would work best. @ Frosty: You know, that really doesn't spoil the book too much. But anyway. I know you're not too familiar with the latest in D&D rules, but you might look into the living spell template (first introduced in ECS) for ideas on the mechanics of your proposed spell. |
| sculyblast07-28-07, 04:15 AM | ... starting monday I am on holiday for a week... sculy |
| thasis07-28-07, 04:53 PM | If there was much of anything happening here I'd be more active, it's just not much happens. |

| Lady Rolindin08-01-07, 12:08 AM | It's good to see you come around again Frosty. So aramar when do you think when be a good idea to start the first contest and who should be the judges? And if the winning say Linked items will the gm's usse them in tthis game? Or will the be used in other ways in the game? |
| Aramar the Black08-01-07, 12:20 AM | Well, it would be great to start something before this week closes. I'd to start the spell contest tomorrow or the day after, and lay out some plans for inter-council contests, so that people can start statting out thier characters. As for judges, I think I'm still the only one, which worries me. |
| Lady Rolindin08-01-07, 12:46 AM | Aramar Demonfey would make a good judge for the items, he's good at the mechanics and understands how items work. other people would be good judges also, such as the elf bane and others. we would need three jugdes per contest, two can do at most. Others could be asked to be jugdes for specif contest that are good in that area, such as demonfey and others. Dyne is good at spells and items also. Just ask people to be jugdes for things you know their good at. |
| Demonfey08-05-07, 09:33 PM | Hi. I've agreed to be a judge. For the record, anyone mind if I put a soulmeld here that I've had the basic layout for in the works? |
| Aramar the Black08-05-07, 10:26 PM | Go ahead. |
| Demonfey08-06-07, 12:16 AM | Based off a magic beast in MM5 Cape of the Steelwing Shoulder (totem) A cloak of gray feathers forms around you. Upon closer inspection, they have a metallic sheen and seem to be as sharp as razors. Effect: The melder gains some of the steelwing's toughness, in the form of DR 5/adamantine +1 per each point of essentia invested in the meld. Shoulder The cape seems to move of its own accord, making it harder to hit the person wearing it. The melder gains concealment against nonadjacent foes for 1 round per point of essentia invested. Totem The cape begins shedding feathers, though they are replenished just as quickly. They seem to swirl about protectively, and glint dangerously. Mimicking the steelwing's razorfeather shield, the melder can cause the cloak to shed more than normal and swirl around the melder and dealing 1d6 points of slashing damage. Each point of essentia adds +1d6 points of slashing damage. |
| redhase08-09-07, 12:28 AM | The cloak looks good demonfey. interesting idea about cloaks. |
| sculyblast08-10-07, 08:25 PM | [drunken rant] Should i still take this seriously? I mean, the main goal of the council nowadays seems to be gathering new members... ...and seeing how we just chased of the new members three pages ago, we aren't doing a great deal. other then that we are just two, three or four people trying to keep a relic alive. we aren't really achieving anything around here. which actually is a great waste of time, spending 10 minutes replying to some place only because it used to be great, I used to come here because AoN, Demonbinder, Finwe, DS and Aravilar used to come here. Nowadays when I arrive here I just see tons and tons of work to be done. Really if there is no way to revive the council and make it a fun place for people to hang out, we might as well let the thread die and grant the four attending people their time to have fun with other thread or other people. right now I really don't care, but I wish there were some awsome people I could talk to. yours truely, sculy [/Drunken Rant] |
| Aramar the Black08-12-07, 12:35 PM | That's interesting....my login is acting screwy.....anyway.. @Demonfey: It looks good to me. @Sculy: So many thoughts come to mind...I must take a moment to make them understandable in words. |
| Lady Rolindin08-15-07, 01:32 AM | first to demonfey and aramar the balck, has a 2nd or 3rd judge been announced for the IFWgG contests? Sculyblast, were all trying to do what we can to keep the thread alive, and hopefully more will come back to viste and stick around. Demonfey the Cape of the Steelwing looks interesting, maybe make some other versions of the cape. How about a cape of elemntal wings also, why not. A cape of storm wings, a cape of fire wings. A cape of the dragon, red dragon, black dragon, blue dragon, crystal dragon, ice dragon, and all other types of dragons. That would be interesting to see. Capes of the dragons, different types for each. |
| kedi08-28-07, 07:54 PM | Fellow archmages; Hey there, Old faces could remember. I can't help but to feel for Sculy. I no longer play DnD or anything, and any effort I'd put in this council would be for vein of a glorious past. We had our fun, and I wish to respect it with doing nothing to waken the dead. Other than that, old worms, you all are missed, and the times we spent together were great. Thanks. Edit: Signing out, Archmage of Death & Life. |
| Aramar the Black08-29-07, 09:31 AM | On many levels, I think you're right. I could make a speech, but it sounds melodramatic in my head, so I won't. |
| Lady Rolindin08-30-07, 03:13 AM | Kedi your right, but we here now have to make our own history now. The counsel has changed so many times since I have been here too, who knows what direction it will go in this time. |
| Pac009-07-07, 07:54 AM | Do you guys take in new members? My character is already active in the Conscientia thread, and i'd like to be in the council as well, if everyone agrees. Now, unless i overread it, i would like to apply as *drum rolls* Archmage of Illusions. PS: if need be, i could write up a dramatic introduction for my 'in-game' character; or if it is more of a loosely club i could leave it at this. Feedback... And hi everyone :D |
| Aramar the Black09-07-07, 09:00 AM | Well, yes, but you stir the dust of a fading empire. Technically, there was/is an Archmage of Illusions, but we also haven't been perfect about the "one archmage per domain" rule, seeing that we have multiple archmagi of illusions (before you, even), battle/war, earth, lightning/electricity, and travel; at the least. |
| Xen15511-09-07, 12:58 AM | Wow, it is good to be back. It has been alooooong time since I have been here and I am very glad to see this foundation is still alive and kickin. I also see that the IFGW is still going on. So, whats goin on guys, what have the arch-mages been up to? Also, am I still the Arch-Mage of Law or do I need to "re-sign" up? |
| Aramar the Black11-09-07, 09:02 AM | And it is good to see you back, Xen. But you err to think that that this foundation is still kicking. There hasn't a been a voice to echo through these halls for two months. We, the archmages, have gone our seperate ways; those of us who remain at the guild house have had our attention elsewhere. And no, you do not need to re-sign up. The title of Archmage of Law is yours unless you forfeit it or are disgraced. |
| Xen15511-09-07, 09:58 AM | Alive if not kicking then. That is the wont of powerfull mages though. To disappear and reappear is our nature (not just the effect of a few of our spells) and I am sure we will see our fellows come and go many times befor they finally hang up their pointy hat for good. The end of the first semester is coming and I believe forums around the nation our going to see lower post counts for awhile. What is your opinion on the Guild House as a whole Aramar, still vital and thriving or has it to suffered from this same malise. |
| Aramar the Black11-09-07, 05:23 PM | I do not say, dead, true. We are like Cthulu and his kin in that. Not every member is effected by semesters and finals, though a great amount are. And yet, it was at the beginning of the school year that we laid ourselves to rest. The House has changed. There are less and less people. The threads and guilds are no longer discussion topics, but roleplaying. And in that they thrive as much as they can. This IFGW has reached a point where it works well, but we have few to play it. Though, we GMs have plans for a rejuvination of the Guild House as a whole. |

| Aramar the Black11-10-07, 11:57 AM | Precisely. Since we GMs are pretty much agreed, I think it's safe to be let known our plan: The Guild House will become two entities; there will be the Discussion forum in the D&D Boards, and the Tyrannor/IFGW/roleplaying forums will remain right here. |
| Xen15511-11-07, 01:19 AM | Precisely. Since we GMs are pretty much agreed, I think it's safe to be let known our plan: The Guild House will become two entities; there will be the Discussion forum in the D&D Boards, and the Tyrannor/IFGW/roleplaying forums will remain right here. Top Shelf. |
| baerdith02-21-08, 08:28 PM | Geez is this place still going? I thought the IFGW gave it an ignoble death? I'm still around, so I might pop in from time to time. |
| Aramar the Black02-21-08, 10:09 PM | Nay, the gates of the Hall are closed, old friend. We thought to let the Council sleep after a great period of uncertain existence. It's great to see you though. |
| Bookmen02-22-08, 02:24 PM | Hey if enough people come back here Cazic will join up. Lord knows there isn't anything going on at the Druids' Tower. |
| Aramar the Black02-22-08, 04:59 PM | The tricky part is not nessacarily getting some people to come back, but rather keeping them back for extended periods of time. And keeping things interesting. Heck, I think at least half the people active in the Guild House as is are or were Archmages at some point in time. But, we can only do so much at once. |
| turalisj02-22-08, 11:37 PM | I'm still around, just lurking around working on a snake-based martial path (Void Serpent). |
| Von Crown06-29-08, 02:30 AM | Just to put this out there, if people start getting back together to get the council moving again, I'd come back ^_^ |
| turalisj06-29-08, 03:27 PM | Well, we would need sufficient interest showed. So far, there are only 3 active members- Aramar, Shar, and me. |
| Aramar the Black06-29-08, 03:39 PM | How about Bookmen? And if we do start moving again, it might be significant to note which edition many of us prefer to do work in; hard to recruit members from the main D&D boards if we like the old and they the new. |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 05:19 PM | Personally I like both new and old. Just don't know 4th ed very well yet. Also I am willing to help. Always loved the Council.:) So we have 5 people here who have at sometime or another been Archmages. |
| baerdith06-29-08, 06:08 PM | I'm still sort of here. I like 1st-3.5 eds, Really hate 4th due to what they did to the Realms. (That and it takes so many words to say what a character can do. 1sts ed 1 page per class. 2nd 1.5 pages. 3rd almost 2 pages. 4th its like 6 pages or so...) |
| Von Crown06-29-08, 06:38 PM | Personally, I'm not too crazy about 4th edition. Not looking to discuss, just putting out my stance. |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 10:00 PM | Well now that we have everyone's stance lets think about what the Coucil will be doing. I mean all of us can talk about 3.5 and/or 4.0 all we want and I dont think it will really hurt us, lets skip a step and not talk about possible flame wars about how much people like/hate 3.5 or 4.0. We'll save time and effort that way. Also we should likely think about what the Council will be doing IC. Are we going to be doing anything IC? Are we going to be some stand alone neutral force? Or are we going to take an active role? Personally I want us to take an active role. What that is we will have to decide. |
| Von Crown06-29-08, 10:21 PM | Traditionally, the council has avoided taking an active role, since we had many members who were unlikely to agree on a course of action. Personally, I think that's fine, I plan on mostly keeping myself out of the IFGW overall. |
| turalisj06-29-08, 10:22 PM | Aye. I say we have the council be a neutral group IG. Those who want the aide of the Archmages may request it, and the council votes to send a member or few to aide. I don't like 4E so far, but I haven't played enough of it to give a solid decision. |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 10:33 PM | Well I know whatever PC I make for te Council will be taking a decently active role. As well I very much like the idea of people being able to ask for our aide and possibly hire us. Though democatic vote would be the deciding facter. On thing I think we should do as we chose what to do is to be trying to spread the use of Magic. This will give us a cause and a guiding force in our actions better then "well i dont like that." |
| turalisj06-29-08, 10:51 PM | Hmm.. Perhaps activly seeking out jobs that advance the use of magic? Also, would we include all forms of magic (pact, divine, shadow, arcane, psionic, incarnum, blade, etc), or just arcane magic? Maybe we could aim towards turning Tyranor into a Magocracy? I don't know about you, but I sort of like the idea of each archamge being in charge of a certain aspect of government. :D |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 11:08 PM | I like the Magocracy idea. As far as what types of magic to support I am uncertian right now. Personally I like Psionic, Arcane, Divine, and Pact the most but can't think of a good justifcation for why the Council would only support them and not the others, off the top of my head. We really should choose what we will support and what we wont. Perhaps we should be trying to spread the Art (i.e. arcane). |
| turalisj06-29-08, 11:14 PM | Hmm.. How about we use Guild Funds to build ourselves a city? Give it an arcane-sounding name, and use that as our HQ. |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 11:21 PM | Nice! Using Guild funds we can certianly build something. If we claim a resource income (like coal, gold, iron, etc) then that will help. As well some well placed landlord and leadership feats could do a great deal. |
| turalisj06-29-08, 11:24 PM | I would say we have our city on Thaligrad Isle, if only for the fact that we could have control of the waters around it. |
| Bookmen06-29-08, 11:33 PM | Works fine for me. Port trade will be useful. But we'll need to make certain that everyone elase (or at least the mayority) is good with this as well. I'd be more then will to make a PC who will take land lord and leadership if we need them. |
| Von Crown06-29-08, 11:37 PM | I like where this discussion is going, and I do think we should support all types of magic. |
| Aramar the Black06-30-08, 01:27 PM | Likewise. The council has a tendency to advocate those forms of magic in which its active members specialize. If I remembe rightly, we've only ever had one full divine caster, with any other divine practicioners being hybrids of divine and arcane. Same goes for psionics. However, we have/had a good number of Shadow practicioners, and shortly before the council died down we had a couple of members interested in blade magic. On unique instances, we saw put forth examples of blood magic and planeforging (crafting with the essence of the planes). I like the magocracy idea as well, though I think I'll read all the pages of the Proper thread that I've skipped for the last month before I say anything more. The Council's HQ in Tyranor has traditionally been on that island in the (Lake of Mist, was it?), and Conscientia (our education branch) began to grow on the northern shores by the (twisted forest). But I have no opposition to Thalingrad Isle. |
| Von Crown06-30-08, 03:07 PM | Well, IC Mordred's been continuing to travel a lot, and he's learned quite a bit. :D Versatile Energy [Epic] Prerequisites Energy Substitution, Knowledge (Arcana) 25 ranks Benefit You can apply the benefits of any metamagic feat that requires you to choose a single energy type as if you had taken that feat for every energy type. |
| Bookmen06-30-08, 03:25 PM | Von Crown I think you should make a IC PC. You wouldn't need to stat it out just something so that you can act IC with our PCs and vote IC and stuff. |
| Von Crown06-30-08, 03:43 PM | I fully intend to use the same PC I did when I used to be around. Which is technically statted but well outside the power level allowed to 'be flagged for pvp' in the IFGW. A young man wearing a long, light blue leather coat walks into the hall. The right sleeve is torn off, showing stiches across his biceps and cloth wrapped around his forearm. Under the coat, he wears plain black pants and no shirt, showing a massive diagonal scar across his chest. His hair is long and black, his eyes a bright red. In one pointed ear he wears a gold skull-and-crossbones earring. He looks around the dust-filled hall, and calls out "Hello? Anyone home?" |
| turalisj06-30-08, 04:03 PM | A spectral figure floats, upside down, upwards and infront of Mordred. Well, where in the nine hells have you been? |
| Von Crown06-30-08, 04:24 PM | He shrugs and grins "Around. Have I missed much?" |
| turalisj06-30-08, 06:06 PM | Not realy. Some nutcase undead decided he should be in charge of Tyrannor, we had an invasion of both Skygge and Pelorites. Personaly, I can't decide which I hate more. Oh, and I died. Again Zik said, floating right-side up. I was actualy wondering if there was any that could ressurect me. Or atleast find me a new body. That basicly sums up what Zik knows of the happenings. For the Magocracy, should we vote on a name and such? I would vote for Avalon or the such, something leading in that direction. |
| Bookmen06-30-08, 07:06 PM | Do we want to say that the above RP is taking place on the island or that we are in a very dis-repaired no-longer-livable old HQ? I say "dis-repaired no-longer-livable old HQ" because we are moving the HQ to the island and building the city. |
| Aramar the Black07-01-08, 01:23 AM | Depends if the move is current or taking place retroactively. Either way, I would assume that the talk would be in the same halls in which many once gathered. A spectacled half-elf walks into the hall from a side hall, silver hair disheveled, tattooed arms glowing icy blue, wearing only pants and a tunic. "What's thi...ah ha, fellow mages returned." He smiles, then tilts his head. "Zik, incorpereal once more. I don't suppose you intend to stay that way, do you?" |
| Bookmen07-01-08, 02:33 AM | Alright. So we are at the Misty Isle HQ. I am working on stating my PC Archmage right now. Might start RPing with him before he is approved since I know enough of what he will be I can make certian not to do something wrong. [EDIT] I might ask you all a few questions as I work on him. |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 05:06 PM | "The Skygge are still around? Hum. Well, all told, I do think the situation warrants some investigation..." He pulls from his pocket a massive crystalline greatsword, which he lays across the table, and begins scrying. |
| turalisj07-01-08, 05:21 PM | Carefull. The pelorites will come here and start smiting if they catch you. I've called in a favor from a friend. He should be here in a few weeks. |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 06:19 PM | "Good thinking. Our main focus right now should be recruiting. We're pretty weak, currently. I might be able to see about bringing in some forces... Now, let me turn my attention to the undead..." |
| turalisj07-01-08, 06:24 PM | The one named Sargatanas has himself as the king of tyrannor. He seems to have the people under his thumb. The appararition pulled out a pipe. Say, you wouldn't happen to be able to get me a body, would you? The pelorites tried to fry the messenger I sent once already. |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 06:29 PM | "I'm not sure that I'm allowed to do that. While I posses the necessary ability to return you to life, my friend, there are rules binding my actions in this world. I will look into the matter, however, as it may be possible." He returns the greatsword to his pocket and begins thumbing through a large tome. |
| turalisj07-01-08, 06:33 PM | Thanks. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to reading. That Order of the Stick is a good book. Zik floated downwards again, humming to himself. |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 06:37 PM | "I was correct, I cannot. However, I may be able to speak to healers on your behalf. I think you'll find I'm far less susceptible to 'frying'." He grins, and heads out of the hall. |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 10:59 PM | Mordred steps back in "Oh, by the way, I'm bringing in someone I've met in my travels. I think she'd be a good addition to the guild." |
| Azureshock07-01-08, 11:11 PM | A few paces behind Mordred appears a flourish of blues and crimson which pull themselves together into a half-elven woman. She stands roughly 5' 8", has dark hair down to her shoulders, and piercing green eyes. She turns to look at Mordred. "So then, what is this place? All you would say is that I'd enjoy myself if I decided to swing by. I'll be expecting a more thorough explanation now that I've arrived." |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 11:17 PM | "Yes, it's an entertaining little world, and you'll have the good fortune to not be bound by the same restrictions I am. This place, specifically, is, or perhaps more suitingly was, the Council of Archmages. It seems my return has gotten things stirring again, and I knew they'd need new members. I figured you'd be well suited.' He turns to the others "Everyone, I present Shoal Daethilinae, our new Archmage of Blowing :censored: Up." |
| Azureshock07-01-08, 11:23 PM | Shoal gives Mordred a sharp look. "What kind of title is that to present to a group of strangers? I would go by 'Archmage of Evocations' or 'Archmage of Electricity' if you want to be really specific. Really now, Mordred, could you at least try to portray me as someone -slightly- respectable?" |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 11:26 PM | "Well, I was just thinking it would do to introduce you with what you're really good at." |
| Bookmen07-01-08, 11:28 PM | "...Archmage of Blowing :censored: Up." (OOC: I like her already.:D ) |
| Azureshock07-01-08, 11:29 PM | "Thanks Mordred, thanks alot. Who are these people?" |
| Von Crown07-01-08, 11:33 PM | "The rest of the council, at least such as is currently in attendance... I'll let them introduce themselves" |
| Aramar the Black07-02-08, 01:18 AM | "So, I suppose I won't be adding a first "Archmage of Making Things go Boom" to the ledger then, eh?" The half-elf smiles again as he bows to the newcomer. I welcome you, Archmage Shoal, as an Archmage of Evocation. My name is Aramar, and I am the Archmage of Ice. You may also refer to me as the Lord of Winter or "that rambling old man", if you prefer. Would you like a snowcone? |
| turalisj07-02-08, 07:27 AM | Zik sticks he head up from the floor, directly infront of the new archmage. I'm the resident phantom and Archmage of Serpents, good to meet you. He turned to the rest of the group. Anyone wouldn't happen to have seen a 400ft long snake go through here, would they? One of them escaped, again. |
| Azureshock07-03-08, 06:08 PM | "A snow cone would be fantastic, thank you. Havn't seen your... pet, I suppose, but I only just arrived." She nods to each of them in turn. "Should I expect to run into a few more before we're done here?" |
| turalisj07-03-08, 09:04 PM | Not likely. The Council has been quiet for the last several years, most of the older members only come back here once a decade. |
| Aramar the Black07-04-08, 01:11 AM | Aramar bobs his head in agreement as two blue snowcones materialize, one in his hand and one in the air in front of Shoal. "One of our bardic trio may pop in, or Twinkle, perhaps, but I think we can move along without offending them." He turns to Zik. "How big around is this serpent of yours, Zik? I'd think there'd be only so many places it could fit through, no? |
| turalisj07-04-08, 02:27 PM | Zik scratched the back of his head. That's the thing... I was experiemnting with combining a collosal boa, a fire giant, and a wraith.... The force wall containment field came loose and it managed to slip out of a crack. |
| Von Crown07-07-08, 01:39 AM | "Though I must say I like the train of thought there..." |
| Bookmen07-07-08, 10:34 AM | (OOC: I get the image of a Giant based Yuan-ti. ) |
| turalisj07-07-08, 04:08 PM | I'll try and whip up a stat-block for him. Basicly imagine a massive serpent that can be released into the sewers and controlled as an assassin/city destroyer. |
| Aramar the Black07-08-08, 02:00 PM | Ooh, it'll be like Chamber of Secrets... only with some kind of massive flaming, semi-incorperal beared Naga instead of a basalisk. |
| turalisj07-08-08, 04:37 PM | Will that make you Dumbledore? OOoooo, if someone can find Tenzhi he can be Snape :P |
| Von Crown07-09-08, 11:09 PM | What would that make me? O_o |
| Bookmen07-09-08, 11:31 PM | I don't even want to know what I would be. <.< >.> |
| turalisj07-10-08, 01:09 PM | What would that make me? O_o Dunno, Lupin? We'll make Bookmen/Cazic Hagrid :P Anyway, any ideas for city names? |
| Bookmen07-10-08, 02:52 PM | Dunno, Lupin? We'll make Bookmen/Cazic Hagrid :P That works for me.:D He's one of the few I like. |
| Von Crown07-11-08, 12:26 AM | Hmmm... city names... Avendi? |
| Aramar the Black07-11-08, 02:45 AM | hmm..I think I'll throw in these into the mix too...though Avendi is nice... Istarė Utaria Saelond |
| Von Crown07-14-08, 03:36 PM | "So, I think we can all agree that the council has seen better days. I think the best course of action, in this case, might be to relocate, establish a new headquarters. Maybe build a city, I imagine there're plenty of people looking to get out of Tyrannor at the moment." To move this discussion into the realm of IC. Because we can. |
| turalisj07-14-08, 05:26 PM | Aye. A great many of good aligned religeons and those who would find the new government of the city unpleasant may want to leave. Zik said. He shook his head sadly. Speaking of unpleasant, it seems my daughter has arrived in Tyrannor. Mordred, perhaps you could bring her here? She has a tendancy to get sidetracked. |
| Von Crown07-14-08, 05:54 PM | "Very well." He grins quite a bit. "Where should I expect to see her?" |
| turalisj07-14-08, 06:00 PM | Either the docks, or anywhere there happens to be a duel in progress. ooc: 'm not going to bother waiting and possibly having my new character either; fried, stabbed to death, or turned into an undead minion while trying to find a caravan. |
| Von Crown07-14-08, 06:27 PM | "Very well, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Currently in the city anyways, just keeping a line to the council for communication reasons." |
| Aramar the Black07-15-08, 02:43 AM | Aramar's head begins to bob again as another snowcone appears in his hand. "Mmm, indeed. New scenery, new people, new buildings; sounds like just the thing. Everybody here has had some conjuration and transmutation training, I hope?" He looks down at his glowing arms. "Though, it is hard to say what all some of us can accomplish under these, uh, limitations." |
| Von Crown07-15-08, 03:20 AM | "Depends what you have in mind. We'll need a source of income, I'm thinking I could help grow a garden of various useful plants and such, we could sell alchemical reagents, herbs, and the like. I could probably assist in the construction as well, though it wouldn't be free." |
| Azureshock07-22-08, 04:34 PM | Shoal simply takes in the conversation while enjoying her snow cone. ooc: i'm still here. =) |
| Bookmen07-22-08, 04:53 PM | (OOC: I'll have my Archmage up and casting soon. Just got a couple more glitches to work out.) |
| CaptainShar07-22-08, 10:19 PM | Twinkle flies up to the doorstep. People! Yay! |
| Aramar the Black07-22-08, 10:46 PM | Aramar turns and smiles. "Aye, and new faces, too." He gestures towards Shoal. Feel like building a city, Twinkle?" My, but prices on building a new HQ are steep, no? |
| CaptainShar07-22-08, 11:08 PM | Will it be an ice palace? |
| turalisj07-23-08, 01:34 AM | Aramar turns and smiles. "Aye, and new faces, too." He gestures towards Shoal. Feel like building a city, Twinkle?" My, but prices on building a new HQ are steep, no? Depends on what you go by. SBG is way overpriced. |
| Aramar the Black07-25-08, 01:40 PM | "I doubt it would bode well with the others if we made the place entirely of ice. Though I must say, the idea is appealing. Reminds of the palce up north we once visited." |
| Azureshock07-26-08, 11:41 AM | "I must confess to preferring warmer climates, myself. Why such a pressing need for a new locale?" Shoal inquires as she finishes off her snow cone. |
| turalisj07-26-08, 08:26 PM | Multiple things. Change of scenery, undead dictators coming into power, etc. |
| NightScreamer2007-27-08, 02:55 AM | A whirlwind of colors and a girlish figure appears draped in silk robes of all the colors of the rainbow. She wipes her nose a bit. "'Scuse me, sorry the interruption. I think the last thing I caught was 'new locale' and then something about 'undead dictators' I think?" |
| turalisj07-27-08, 05:03 PM | Yes. Now, who exactly are you? |
| Xen15507-28-08, 03:31 AM | Undead is one of the worst adjectives you can add to dictator. Also: Some say the place should be made of stone. Some say in Ice. From what I've tasted of frostbite I hold with those who favor stone. But if I had to build it twice, I think I know enough of fire spells To know that for construction ice Is not quite as nice And would most likely not suffice. |
| turalisj07-28-08, 04:43 AM | *snaps fingers ala beatnik* But it's true isn't it? Sargy's biggest strength is his undead army. Dictators are those who rule by the strength of their army, they aren't always hated and fear by the mass populace. For historical reference, look at Julius Ceasar. |
| Xen15507-28-08, 07:43 AM | *snaps fingers ala beatnik* But it's true isn't it? Sargy's biggest strength is his undead army. Dictators are those who rule by the strength of their army, they aren't always hated and fear by the mass populace. For historical reference, look at Julius Ceasar. I know nothing of undead armies as this is my first time back to these boards in just over half a year. But I think my statement still stands. Unlike our friend Gaius, who is often portrayed as some romantic benevolent dictator, an undead despot is not subject to stabs in the back (not the literal sense anyways). So, can someone explain why this corpse has been given the powers of a tyrant over the RP side of the guild house. |
| Bookmen07-28-08, 10:53 AM | The laws of the City states that who ever can claim the Source shall be King of the City. During a massive attack on the city Sargantanas claimed the Source and then he and a Warrior of Good used it to fought back the invading army. The Warrior is dead and Sarg claimed the Source. During the battle the Source was destroied, but the laws of the city are clear, he claimed it and thus he is King. Also HE is not Undead, but his army is. I say we make the place out of stone. Ice does sound interesting but not my first choice. |
| CaptainShar07-28-08, 10:22 PM | Well, at least make it out of nice thick stone that stays cool. The little ice mephit grins. |
| Xen15507-28-08, 11:05 PM | The laws of the City states that who ever can claim the Source shall be King of the City. Ice does sound interesting but not my first choice. So the current law says whoever gets their hands on the source is king. And this guy was the last to ever be able to obtain it.... Well, sounds like this place is out of luck. Why dosn't someone toss him out and establish some new laws? What happened to all the good guys who used to hang out here like Orcy and Dyne? Has everyone turned CE-LN? I DO remember Sargatanas, always reminded me of a guy named Droga. He and another poster destroyed one of the few bastions of good in the last iteration of the Guild Wars by themselves. |
| Sargatanas07-28-08, 11:23 PM | Actually it was a few 'iterations' ago, and the 'bastion of good' was a self serving power hungry.... lets say Jerk since its allowed. I recall seeing that too, quite deserving was this 'bastion of good' that it was banned. Why does nobody toss him out? Cuz they can't, or aren't willing to try yet. Ya see, there are rules here now, not just self-serving rules dedicated to enhancing one guild and giving power to one person. I took the throne IN CHARACTER and RP the doing of it and RP my role... pal. Don't care what you might be thinkin, but when things happen in a game based on RP we don't destroy it because someone thinks its 'better their way' with overpowered super-DM-enhanced crap. The good guys? They're around. The players just ain't done anything yet. I remember you too pal, and I'm thinkin your high horse might need a bit more shootin. |
| NightScreamer2007-28-08, 11:36 PM | "A Castle? Easy, it's called Kobolds... ya that's right, Kobolds! Collect me about 2 dozen of them and some adamantine mining picks and we can have the largest most elaborate and secure castle in all of the land!" Rayne giggles. "Oh, me? I'm just Rayne, Rayne ir'Shien... sister of Ray the Shining Light of Pelor and Daughter of Caronath the Defender of Pure Souls in Tyrannor. And no, I don't know how I arrived here..." |
| Bookmen07-28-08, 11:43 PM | <.< >.> You could cut the tension with a vorpal great sword. Well you could cut just about anything with a vorpal great sword. There is a reason they are called great swords after all. Sarg does make a point though, as he often does, and it shouldn't be ignored, even if it is coming on a little hard. In the Tyrannor of today the DMs are a less GOD force and more a NPC force. They follow the same rules as us except that they have power to punish should anyone break the rules. Sarg has not. There are good guys here, but they have yet to make a full blown attempt on Sarg's life. Also it is a lot more fun if we handle things IC as compared to OOC. :D |

The good guys? They're around. The players just ain't done anything yet. I remember you too pal, and I'm thinkin your high horse might need a bit more shootin. Hey Sargatanas. Whats up? You sound a bit resentfull. I have no problem with a person grabbing the power IG as you apparently did. I think its pretty cool actually. And I wasn't suggesting that someone come in and say "no that didn't happen", what im asking is why no one has opposed your standard megalomaniac crap IN GAME (I can capatalize whole words too see). As I write this I realize you might be talking about the Half-Elf foundation. If thats true you might have a point. Our friend Sil was kinda crazy. I however, was speaking of the more recent events where you marched a huge army of undead to a guilds doorsteep and attacked with 4 characters. My horse is just the right size for me, maybe you should try looking down at yours mate. I like you Sargatanas, your a person who is very willing to get out there and be the first to act, to play your role. I don't like your in game chars much because im not a fan of evil overlords. Forgive me. |
| Sargatanas07-29-08, 12:45 AM | Might be because everything you typed seemed ta be OOC. It was all written in plain text with nothin that let us know what was IC and what was OOC, much like Sil used ta do actually. The last guys that opposed me I crushed, yeah. The royal guard who's only fight was two PCs, only one of which I'm thinkin actually belonged to the guild. So yeah... you're right... I did crush it with a little bit of help from Ashariana. Must have mis-understood what ya said, just sounded OOC and like ya were sayin I didn't deserve it. |

Must have mis-understood what ya said, just sounded OOC and like ya were sayin I didn't deserve it. Yeah one of those PCs was me, I was grappled by an invisible minotaur while trying to convince Ashariana to back off. I didn't belong to that guild but I was opposed to your char. And while everything I wrote was OOC I won't deny you deserve the crown from a OOC perspective. From what I have seen it was a clever bit of RP. But when I do come back IG im going to be opposing you again, so the civil things I say are not going to be RP. And yeah, Sil was fond of switching on and off RP so quickly sometimes only he realized it had happened. |
| turalisj07-29-08, 04:24 AM | "A Castle? Easy, it's called Kobolds... ya that's right, Kobolds! Collect me about 2 dozen of them and some adamantine mining picks and we can have the largest most elaborate and secure castle in all of the land!" Rayne giggles. "Oh, me? I'm just Rayne, Rayne ir'Shien... sister of Ray the Shining Light of Pelor and Daughter of Caronath the Defender of Pure Souls in Tyrannor. And no, I don't know how I arrived here..." My family has the debt of a kobold butler, but I doubt he could be of much help in that regard. However, we could always check the mountainous areas, there are sure to be a few tribes willing to come and help. I'm pretty sure Zik was the other one defending the royal guard, where he died the first time. I was standing on the wall trying to stall for time and hope that more allies could come. The only reason Xen was even there, IC, was because I had come to the CoA to ask for assistance in defending the RG. |
| Von Crown07-29-08, 04:26 AM | Some say the place should be made of stone. Some say in Ice. From what I've tasted of frostbite I hold with those who favor stone. But if I had to build it twice, I think I know enough of fire spells To know that for construction ice Is not quite as nice And would most likely not suffice. LOL. Robert Frost FTW.\ "Well, I am actually somewhat fond of the elemental construction idea, though I say why limit ourselves to one element? Build areas for given archmages in the style suiting to their specialty. Have the meeting area represent a convergence of those styles." He turns to the newcomer "Mordred Von Crown, Archmage of Title Pending, Wanderer Extrordinaire. Pleasure to meet you." He grins widely, though not so widely as to be obviously fang-ey. |
| NightScreamer2007-29-08, 11:33 AM | Rayne gives a small curtsie and smiles. "Oh you people have titles? Hm. Well then after the academy I was referred to as Rayne ir'Shien, Prismatic Lady of Ultimate Magi and Mistress of The True Art." Her eyes shimmer and her robes gleen with those prismatic colors that she just mentioned. |
| CaptainShar07-29-08, 11:13 PM | Yay! Another girl! Want to be friends? We could make a club for the girls. Twinkle bounces up to Rayne in that strange mixture of innocent and conniving childhood friendship. |
| Xen15507-30-08, 02:32 AM | I'm pretty sure Zik was the other one defending the royal guard, where he died the first time. I was standing on the wall trying to stall for time and hope that more allies could come. The only reason Xen was even there, IC, was because I had come to the CoA to ask for assistance in defending the RG. Yes, I was IG leader of the CoA at the time but couldn't get them involved becuase of the strict nuetrality rule. So I tried going myself for a diplomatic resolution because Xen prefers more subtle, diplomatic forms of war if they must occur (less bloodshed that way). That.... didn't quite work out. @Von Crown: :cookie: |
| Aramar the Black07-30-08, 08:56 AM | "Welcome, Rayne ir'Shien. I am Aramar, the Archmage of Ice. Shall I say that your unexpected arrival was a happy accident and assume that you will be staying for a while?" He smiles, and then shifts his attention to Mordred. "Archmage of Title Pending? Were you wanting to change your focus, Mordred? Elemental construction could only go so far, I think. Afterall, making walls of water, fire, or lightning is a tad trickier than stone or iron or ice. On the other-hand, planar or elemental infusion could be quite possible. Life-draining stone, super-heated iron, life-giving ice, you get the idea. |
| CaptainShar07-30-08, 04:06 PM | Yes! Life-giving ice! That's why we need some, for if we get hurt. (OOC - Twinkle is a child; she tends to think of things only from an ice-mephit perspective) |
| NightScreamer2007-30-08, 05:21 PM | Rayne looks around. "Ice? That seems rather difficult... A good fireball and our castle is destroyed! But stone and Iron? What a fortress we could make!" Rayne whisks her hand and creates a giant wall of stone and earth after which she wields her hand like a carving tool and the stone shapes itself to her liking. "See? And best thing about stone is, keep things underneath it nice and cool." She smirks at Twinkle with a wink. |
| Aramar the Black07-31-08, 12:22 AM | "Always with the negative waves, Moriarty, always with the negative waves." With a good enough fireball, any castle could be destroyed. Looks like I've got little choice but to settle with the infusions, then. We can still have an ice tower though, right? |
| Von Crown07-31-08, 02:16 AM | Yeah, that was more what I meant than pure elemental construction. |
| CaptainShar08-01-08, 12:10 AM | Twinkle starts building ice walls to help Rayne. Is this the right spot? |
| Aramar the Black08-01-08, 01:37 AM | "Ladies, ladies, please. Let's go outside before we start building." We are still at the old place, right? Or did we spontaneously move to Thalingrad? If not, we should, sometime soon. Mark our territory. If we are there, then disregard Aramar's remark. |
| Von Crown08-06-08, 03:31 AM | I figured we're at the old place. Just made sense to me. |
| Bookmen08-06-08, 07:11 AM | When I asked earlier you all said we were at the old place. |
| Aramar the Black08-06-08, 11:12 AM | That's what I thought. Just making sure. It seems that Orcy's idea for the Guild Wars will place the Arcane Association in control of this lake and the misted isle. "On that note, shall we make our way Thalingrad? Some of us are eager to begin constuction, it seems. I'll go start packing, and grab our books on elemental infusion while I'm at it. And maybe I'll be lucky enough to find Zik's snake of doom." |
| turalisj08-06-08, 12:13 PM | We could just leave it here. Would prove to be a good suprise for the Arcane Association when they come to loot once we are gone. Infact, perhaps we should rig some sort of self-destruct in case of looters? |
| Bookmen08-06-08, 02:30 PM | Has anyone here prepared explosive Runes?:D |
| Aramar the Black08-07-08, 01:31 AM |    Alas, I haven't. "I had had similar thoughts. I imagine Shaol has a few things that she could arrange." |
| NightScreamer2008-07-08, 01:32 AM | Rayned looks around and jumps excitdedly spreading her arms out. "To Thalingrad! Everyone join hands! Come on quick quick!" |
| CaptainShar08-07-08, 11:12 AM | Whee! Twinkle nudges everyone into a circle. Her white kitten sits on her head. |
| NightScreamer2008-08-08, 01:53 PM | Rayne is assuming whoever is going is joining hands as they vanish from the spot with a loud sneeze... for everyone who teleported with Rayne just had a sudden need to sneeze at the time of vanishing. What a strange coincedence. |
| Aramar the Black08-14-08, 05:57 PM | Aramar, having resisted Twinkle's urging, was not with the circle when the sneezing teleport occurred. He arrives shortly after, dusting himself off and eating another snowcone. "My apologies to seem rude, but someone had to stay to lock the doors, turn off the lights, strum the tripwires; that sort of thing." He glances around the vista with slightly scruntinizing eyes. "Colorful. Shall we make plans, or begin building hodge-podge-like?" |
| turalisj08-20-08, 11:41 PM | So... how exactly IG are we doing the move? Just opening another thread for the Council? |
| CaptainShar08-21-08, 01:04 AM | (OOC - I think we just say, "Here we are!") |
| Aramar the Black08-21-08, 12:45 PM | Starting a new thread might not be a bad idea. Sure, we're only at ten pages, but the first three posts in this incarnation are by inactive persons. And if we're to take active part in the Guild Wars, than a listing of resources, military, current members, etc.. in the first post is generally desired. Along with the other links and information that we usually keep in our early posts. Any naysayers? |
| turalisj08-21-08, 01:02 PM | None from me. How will we go about creating the new guild hall? Each of council member could have their own keep built (which is what? 5 stronghold spaces stacked in a level of three?) to their liking and we could link it together through a system of hallways, with a 'Grand Hall' in the middle that contains a massive library (3 or 4 Luxury Library spaces connected), an eating area, an area to meet and discuss, a place for visitors, perhaps a dungeon level underneath, and other needed areas. Seem good? We might want to get a list of all the members and PM them if they are interested in being in the IFWG and see if they want to help out. One final thing on construction: While it might seem cheaper to have Glenn come in and build, RP wise it would make good sense to have manual/magical labor. The idea behind this is that many major cities in antiquity were formed by the manual labor needing a place to stay while they build. It just happend to have been cheaper to STAY there once the building phase was complete. That way, incase Thalingrad is unpopulated we can kick-start the population. |
| Aramar the Black08-21-08, 04:02 PM | Hmm...even with our rules here, Luxurious libraries cost almost 20,000. And guilds are only allotted 50,000 to begin with. Anyone have a SBG on hand? What of discounts can we get with magical aid? As far as other members... Here are some names from an old contact list from 2006; I assume this is kind of what you are looking for. Frostbite Ravenheart Myrdinn Premier666 Thasis Bait the Bard Baerdith Malyss the Defender Necrodude Law Master of Sarcasm Master of Flames Damior Demonfey Solmund Swedish Viking Anglar ChaosEvoker He Who Shall Not Be Named Silvanus |
| turalisj08-21-08, 04:37 PM | The only one I know from the list that is around still is DF... As for GH funds, 50k seems a bit....low. Your average keep costs about that much, which tells you something on the pricing in the SBG. I think the general idea at the time that prices were hammered out is that each guild member takes landlord and donates their 150k to the guild that they belong to. As for discounts, here's the list: Spells -Discount Air Walk, Fly, or Levitate -25% cost for adjustment of hieght Fabricate -50% for Luxury, -20% for fancy, and -5% for other spaces Move Earth -3% per space on ground floor, moats for free Stone Shape -5% per space with hewn stone walls Wall of stone -Depends on spell level. At 12 level you get hewn stone walls for half off. At 16th level, you get them for free Wood shape -5% per space with wood walls. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder08-21-08, 08:16 PM | Stronghold builder's guide is not overpriced. You are forgetting that every single item you need in any room you purchase is included in the price of the room. On top of that, the only things that are 'overpriced' or rather, high in price are the luxury rooms. If you want really elaborate rooms then yes, its going to be really expensive. Guilds are granted enough gold to get a start on their fortifications and keeps and whatnot, but they can also make money and gather funds to enhance their fortress. These are not meant to be massive structures of immense power and greatness. A guild must work to get such things from a lesser level of success, after all, if a guild begins the game as god-like powerhouses with an unconquerable tower would be rather boring. |
| Bookmen08-21-08, 08:36 PM | I think I can get ahold of ChaosEvoker and Xen, but no promises on whether or not they will come back. There might be one or two others I can get but no promises with them either. My PC Val still has 50,000 gp so we can just RP him joining and giving it. |

I'm not saying, like some suggested before, giving the guild's 1mil to start with. What I'm saying is that they should atleast be able to compete with any character coming in with the Landlord feat and building their own fortress. A level 15 character gets 150,000gold to start with, three times as much as a guild. Heck, a level 10 character gets the same amount of gold to start with. As an example of costs for a guild house, the Cheap Keep in the SBG is listed at 70,000gp. That's with a staff of 14, an armory to supply them, and enough space for two extra guests. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder08-22-08, 01:50 AM | A player is a powerful individual with a status that is well known and revered amongst the common folks. They have made many aquaintances and seen many people and things throughout their lives. Donating some of their time to building and obtaining wealth from these people to build a stronghold is going to get them much more than a guild that, while perhaps famous, is nothing without the individual members. A guild on it's own merits is little more than a title and an association of powerful people. The guild is meant to be a place for the guild members to meet, if the guild has the funds then it can be a great stronghold full of death traps and war machines. But as a basic guild, the amount is fine, and stands. |
| turalisj08-24-08, 04:41 AM | Well, then I have to pull this out: http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15430884&postcount=1213 Since this is technically a council of....what was the word again? |
| CaptainShar08-25-08, 05:24 PM | I suggest we start a new thread. |
| Aramar the Black08-26-08, 12:37 AM | Right then. Unless somebody really wants to beat me to it, I'll start the new thread tomorrow afternoon. |
| Aramar the Black08-26-08, 04:02 PM | And..it's started. Please move discussion over the new thread. Thank you. |
