Karn Dragonsbane

11-29-05, 12:27 PM
Welcome, everyone. This thread is began by Karn Dragonsbane, my new namesake, and a far better one than the previous.
To begin roleplaying within the boards, Iīd like to do the next step: playtesting him. Here.
You can join later too the foundation...

Okay. Once, It was boasted that I could kill a dragon 4 CRs above myself.
I apologize. I will try with one just 3 CRs above myself.

Fine... Letīs begin with the logical beginning: the dragon ambushes me, and pickles me off with a well-chosen move.

Karn was moving... no, oozing into the cave. That couldnīt be called walking: he propelled himself by alternatively pushing himself forward with his legs, bending his right knee after setting his left leg forward, but it didnīt seem out of his own volition; it was a stronger will what dripped his persona forward, as irresistible as gravity.
The dragon could hear him; he was as noisy as any puny human. In heavier armor, a medium plate of adamantine. And carrying about fifty pounds of miscellaneous stuff.
What an idiot, the dragon thought to himself. He was sitting in a huge alcove, in the same direction the the cave entrance. When Karn entered, heīd breathe fire over him... or something. And still be off limits to him.
Karn, Karn, Karn. Poor, lonely Karn. Simple, stupid Karn. Barging in like he owned the place, sword in hand yet should have taken his bow. What would the idiot do now? Die, of course. He had done this dozens of times over; always munching more than he should. This was the wrong dragon to bother; Karnīs prowess was very well-known among dragons. And this ancient hunter was prepared, ready and for the experienced, adamantbound prey...

Karn: 203 HP
Dragon: 449 HP

As Karn enters, he is greeted by a sudden flash of light from above.
Karnīs spot vs. Dragonīs hide:
Both roll a 13. And the dragon has a total of 15, while Karn has just 12.
Surprise round:
The dragonīs acid fog spell holds Karn into position meanwhile.
Acid fog damage: 8
Kīs HP: 195

Round I:
Initiative must be rolled.
Karn rolls 19+6=25
Dragon rolls 5+4=9
Karn comes really first, and escapes 10 feet from the fog. But he still has 10 feet more to move.
The dragon, meanwhile, breathes acid into the mist.
Dragonīs breath weapon damage: 18d10. 84 damage rolled, Karn must roll 33 and has a +15.
Karnīs roll: 19. And he evades the full power of the breath weapon, thanks to his evasion plate.
Reload time: 3 rounds. Available again at round V.
Acid fog damage: 5
Kīs HP: 190

Round II:
Karn moves the last 10 feet off the mist.
And the dragon launches another acid fog.
Acid fog damage: 8
Kīs HP: 182

Round III:
Karn moves 10 feet off the mist.
The dragon hasnīt got his breath back. So he instead casts a shadow evocation of a fireball.
Karnīs roll to recognize shadow matter: 6 + 9 = 15. The roll needed was a 21. Full damage: 10d6; 33.
Reflex save: +17, required 21. Rolled 20. Karn evades the fireball.
Acid fog damage: 10
Kīs HP: 172

Round IV:
Karn moves the last 10 feet off the mist.
And the dragon casts another one. But this time, Karn is running out of space to escape the mist.
Acid fog damage: 4
Kīs HP: 168
(And Karn rages on)

Round V:
Karn moves 10 feet off the mist, back away.
The dragon breathes forth fire again...
Breath weapon: 147 (WWWWWOOOOOOOWWWW!!! But letīs be fair... no rerolls)
16 rolled + 15 is 31. Karn takes all of it... if that goddarned fog just wasnīt there...
Fort +20; needed a -5, rolls a 3.
Reload time required: 2 rounds. Available again in round VIII
Acid fog damage: 3
Kīs HP: 44

Round VI:
Karn moves a last 10 feet off the mist.
But the dragon has two remaining, as well as an infinite and deadly breath weapon.
The dragon hurls another acid fog at him.
Acid fog damage: 7
Kīs HP: 37

Round VII:
Karn moves 10 feet off the mist. And he begins raging off...
The dragon canīt see him now, but he hurls a shadow evocation (fireball)
Karn fails to recognize it for what it is.
And suceeds on evading it.
Acid fog damage:
Kīs HP: 33

Round VIII:
Karn escapes from the mist, and takes Lifeline from his belt.
The dragon canīt see him anymore, but breathes fire in Karnīs position.
Karn isnīt there anymore, however.

Round IX:
Karn runs into the exit, and begins using the lifeline. Heals himself of 1d8+1 hp: 6.
The dragon is too overconfident to try to go out and check. He thinks Karn died.
Kīs HP: 39

Round X:
Dragon doesnīt do anything.
Karn begins healing himself like nuts, while running away.

Skipping into round XIX...
Karn healed himself of 9d8+9 damage.
76 damage healed. Rage off.
Karnīs HP: 79

Round XIX:
Dragon notices Karn isnīt there.
And jumps down from his alcove.
Karn heals himself of 1d8+1. 7 damage.
He moved in 9 rounds 18 times his speed. Which was 40 feet, for a total of 760 feet.
Karnīs HP: 86

Round XX:
Dragon moves 120 feet away, and catches up with the exit.
Karn heals himself of 1d8+1 damage. 6 damage.
Karnīs HP: 92

Round XXI:
Dragon spends a round to move upwards into flight.
Karn heals himself of 1d8+1 damage. 4 damage.
Karnīs HP: 96.

Round XXII:
Dragon tries to spot Karn, who hid himself behind a rock 640 feet away.
-64 to spot. Letīs not even try it.
Karn heals himself of 1d8+1 damage. 8 damage.
Karnīs HP: 104.

Round XXIII:
Dragon tries to guess which direction did Karn take. And guesses wrong.
Karn heals himself of 1d8+1 damage. 2 damage.
Karnīs HP: 106.

Round XXIV:
Dragon goes for another round in the wrong direction.
Karn heals himself of 3 damage.
Karnīs HP: 109.

Round XXV:
Dragon goes for a last round in the wrong direction.
Karn heals himself of 2 damage.
Karnīs HP: 111

Round XXVI:
Dragon spins 45 degrees, right towards Karn.
Dragonīs spot: -95. Yet too much.
Karn heals himself of 3 damage.
Karnīs HP: 114

Round XXVII:
Dragonīs spot: -75.
Karn heals himself of 3 damage.
Karnīs HP: 117

Round XXVIII:
Dragonīs spot: -55
Karn heals himself of 9 damage.
Karnīs HP: 126

Round XXIX:
Penalty to dragon: -35
Dragonīs spot: +2
Karnīs hide: +2
Opposed rolls:
Dragon rolls 1
Karn rolls 14
Karn heals himself of 3 damage.
Karnīs HP: 129.

Round XXX:
Dragonīs spot penalty: -15
Okay, he sees him now.
And Karn is in severe trouble.
So he heals for the last round and takes his blade.
Karn heals 6 last HP...
Karnīs HP: 135

Round XXXI:
Karn awaits the dragon.
And he stops in midair, ready to breathe before snatching him as a snack...
Karnīs full attack:
18-16-14-11
Enough as for two hits and a crit to drill through his AC.
Critical confirmation: 12
Damage total: 8d6+100+4d4 30+100+16. Damage output is 146 points... though Karn is rageless and fatigued...
Dragonīs remaining HP: 303
Breath weapon...
18d10=111
Karnīs save: +16. Roll 17+...
Rolls 12.
28 against 33 loses.
111 points of damage.
Karnīs HP: 24

Round XXXII:
Karn strikes at the dragon, with as much force as possible.
Power attack: damage output x3 (x2 two-handed, x2 favored power attack)
5 points from each blow
To-hit number: AC 36, +29/+24/+19/+14
8/18/17/18, total 37/42T/36T/32T
Three threats and a blow.
Threat confirmation required: 11/16/21
Threats: 4/20/10
Two blows, one critical.
Five blows total, with 5x5x3 extra points from Power Attack.
12d6+150+5d4+75
62+150+75+17
Total damage:
304.
Dragonīs remaining HP: -1

Karn looked at the dragon. What once was a proud and tall monster was now no more than a pile of dying flesh. But this sensation was all too known to him; and it wasnīt important even the first time.
It could have been him, he thought. If he had been bitten, heīd have died... Any dragon could hold him deadly tight, yet they didnīt live enough to try. He was too fast for them, they couldnīt even begin. If they began... he was toast... he needed some means to protect himself from that from now on.
He proceeded to the logical conclussion of this. He walked towards its eye. Its slowly closing eye, attempting to focus... yellow like gold, liquid as a molten lava orb..
The pupils were already hard to see. It was like 800 years old. But Karn had too much experience with such dragons. The pupils were trying to focus on his face, purely out of spite. Its eyes refused to close, the beast refused death. Karn wouldnīt kill it right now... it was the only kind of moment worth living in all his life. The moment where he stared down the eyes of his prey, of his dying prey, himself covered with blood, grime, and sweat, against a dying critter. His swordīs explosive capabilities were useless... And his strength was greater than what he had noticed. Heīd need to remove the explosive attack, it was no use. The Force Claw would be now simply the Anger Edge.
There was a reason why to stare down the dragon: unless spirits were subdued, they could rise again. And Karn wasnīt a ghost fighter.
It was sick, but not sadistic. Karn didnīt enjoy the beastīs suffering. He was simply being patient. Waiting until the beast gave up hope. He respected the strength of his foes... Just he didnīt gave a damn about it. These moments were too precious for him... Heīd hardly have interrupted it if he suddenly was backstabbed with a ten foot long knife.
Finally, the beast began dying. Karn would then finish his job. The eyes stayed open, the pupils focused on Karn, but the attention, the tension in the air, the hate in its stare, they were all frozen. They were no more. Now, heīd slice off its head, and itīd be over.
Karn moved towards its neck. He dealt the execution blow with no grace, with no passion, with no need neither. But he dealt it.
And proceeded to tear off one of its teeth, to add to his collar. Then he removed all of the other teeth, to sell. Finally he began skinning its scales and ripping its entrails. No need to go to waste, and so many people needed these things lately... What else would he do? Not to mention, making money never slowed him down unless he was slow in first place. At least when he had his bags of holding...

I have bested the dragon... with a lot of cheats. The last roll was fudged, else the dragonīd have 34 HP left.
But then I noticed I wasnīt adding ALL of the strength bonus. So, fair is fair, Iīd have won anyway if I had remembered all the rules.
And my HP were miscalculated by a fair amount.
Ugh. Should have equipped myself with a better healing item... Wonīt make that mistake again.
The Neo-lifeline will use a better spell. That drives costs high, but my life is irreplaceable if I die alone.

There was a previous try of this, but even though it had no fudged rolls nor healing items, the dragon wasnīt half as smart as he shouldīve been.
There it is, if you care.

Karn Dragonsbane VS.
Very Old Red Dragon
(My name matters not, contemplative one, youīll die after the insane one...)

Surprise Round
Karn is ambushed by the VORD as he enters the cave.
VORDīs action: Karn wasnīt expecting this, and the dragon has the advantage; itīs +2 VORDīs hide against +0 Kīs spot.
Both roll a 17. Karn loses the advantage. The dragon gets a standard action to hurl at him a mighty spell: a feeblemind.
SAVE DC: 21
Karnīs save: +9
Karn rolls a 9...
GAME OVER...
Or not? He just doesnīt need to use any int or cha-based skills.
And then, what does he do?

Round I:
Initiative rolls:
Karn: 10 + 6
Dragon: 8 + 4
Karn comes first, takes his sword.
Dragon comes second, shoots another spell: acid fog. His own SR will protect him, he needs to roll 12 or more to affect himself.
Dragon doesnīt agree to roll, and voluntarily fails roll. If so is possible. But itīs not, so he instead thinks again and casts nothing.

Round II:
Karn lunges towards the dragon, at 135 feet per round. The AC is 36... His attack bonus is +37... So he takes the freedom to add 12 points from BAB to +36 to damage.
And rolls a 2. Implacable dice.
The dragon, meanwhile, laughs, and then breathes fire over Karnīs body. 18d10 fire... 93 HP damage. DC 33 for half. Karn has a +17, and rolls a 12.
-93 HP.
Time until new breath weapon: 1 round. Available on round IV.
Karnīs new HP: 150

Round III: Karn does a full attack. And the massacre begins turning in the other direction... I hope...
Karnīs attacks: +39/+34/+29/+24 against dragons while in rage. Dragonīs AC: 36. 4/14/4/13. Three blows connect.
6d6+84+4d4 34+84+8 damage is a lot... like 126 damage.
Dragonīs new HP: 323
The dragon, meanwhile, thinks about how to further humilliate the nutty one. Then he does a crush...
DC 33: Karn rolls 19+17... total 36. Just takes 4d6+19. And shrugs off 3 HP
Karnīs new HP: 122

Round IV: Karn does another full attack. And the massacre goes on further...
Karnīs attacks: 4/5/3/15. Dragonīs AC: 36. Three blows again connect.
6d6+84+4d4 20+84+8 damage is another lot... the dragon begins decimating.
Dragonīs new HP: 209
The dragon, meanwhile, begins taking this seriously. And strikes at Karn with all his might... Will Karn survive that?
With an AC of 28, only crits need to be checked. +40/+35/+35.
3/6/16. No crits.
Karn suffers 4d6+25+4d8 damage. Total damage is 43, 9 HP shrugged off.
Karnīs new HP: 85. Rageīs end death threshold is 52 damage away...

Round V: Karn deals another full attack. Possibly this is the end for the dragon.
4/12/17/17
Two criticals. Power critical confirms critical with +4.
15+4/6+4
One critical, 3 normals. Five blows total.
10d6+140+5d4 42+140+15. Total damage is 197.
And the dragon is in 12 HP.
Finally there comes the turn for the dragon. If he deals full breath weapon damage, this is the end for Karn!
Breath weapon damage: 18d10. Let`s skip that part.
Karnīs save needs a 16 or more.
Roll: 16. Right on spot. Karnīs evasive reactions plate blocks the full force of the breath weapon, allowing for Karn to escape all of it.

Round VI:
The dragon is in extreme jeopardy. And Karn deals the last blow, adding insult to injury by dealing nonlethal damage with his blade, using a single blow at -4. The dragonīs heal could actually save Karnīs mind, a fact Karn wonīt be clouded to, as heīs not thinking with his brains but with his memories.
The blow connects, unless itīs 2 or less.
15 suceeds. Karn knocks the wind out of the dragon, and deals 2d6+28 nonlethal and 1d4 lethal. Total damage is 3 lethal...
Dragon at 9 HP
and 34 lethal
Dragon reaches 0 HP, and collapses.
Karn meanwhile tries to think how to nullify the effects of the feeblemind spell. After the dragon awakens, heīll threaten to kill him if not healed.
If the dragon tries anything weird, heīll kill him.
Meanwhile, Karn positions himself for a coup de grace...
And his HP falls to 52 as the rage ends.

Perhaps the dragon will cast the heal on himself instead of Karn when he awakens. If thatīs the case, Karn is surely doomed. But Karn will most likely forget about the mind mess thanks to it and kill the dragon anyway.
If there was a princess involved, letīs hope she can find a way out herself. Karn doesnīt seem able to do anything helpful right now.
Specially if she has a half-dragon template. If so is the case, Iīd rather stay out of her frigginī shoes...
What the hell. Half-dragon human or elven maiden princess...? Sounds like a nice addition to my BBEG collection. Just needs some story, and a build. Specially a build. And a chromatic dragon origin, "fallen" are not to be abused, like the ten teddy bears of horror: they donīt include mummies, werewolves or vampires: these must NOT be used unless you have something interesting in mind.
But sheīll have to wait... I donīt do anybody I canīt draw, and I suck at drawing girls. And I donīt want to draw someone who sounds taken straight from a dizzy geekīs fantasies... though she isnīt. Somehow, I can feel the concept HAS been done before... does anybody know something I donīt?

The dragon there had a wimpy strategy. Does anybody want to think of a deadlier combat, perhaps one where Karn loses without too many weird rolls against him?
Feeblemind seemed to me as the thing the dragonīd do, but Iīm sure a well-informed dragon like that one would have proven deadlier. Dragons should know of Karnīs weaknesses. Acid fog should have been a killer, specially since the dragon had 5 unloads of it and it took for Karn 2 rounds to move out of each. And haste... poor K. He killed the dragon, but it was an idiot dragon... Not to mention casting heal on himself would have restarted the battle, and Karn didnīt have too much rage... Only 14 rounds.
And the worst part, dragons have a +56 grapple modifier. Fortunately the standard dragon doesnīt have improved grapple. And with one round earlier of a breath weapon, Karn was story almost surely.
Pshaw. Past the war, anybody plays general. Luckily dragons arenīt munchkins... But his int was 22... and wis 23...
What the hell...
But EVEN HIS FRIGHTFUL PRESENCE WAS IGNORED...
Heīs a CR 21 CHAOTIC EVIL CRITTER, HE CANīT LOSE LIKE THAT...
Anyway. Try not to make my mistakes with this. Maybe I pass this clean, with an Int 22 VS 13 and Wis 23 VS 8-worthy combat.
Itīs a frigginī DRAGON!!! AArghghh!
Enough, enough.
Now, time to begin acting in-character.

"Dead. Worry now are brains... hurt..."

Enough. I wonīt redo the combat. Again.

Now, what to do? Oh, right, the Neo-lifeline.
Neo-lifeline: This looks like a rather unremarkable band of greenish silk. A character using this band to stop bleeding or cover burns can restore himself 3d8+5 hp per round.
Medium conjuration; CL 5th; Cure moderate wounds, Magical artisan (wondrous item), Craft wondrous item; Market price 22.500 gp.

And the dragon terminators foundation (later name changed to dragon slayers guild... ARGH, NEVER WENT AGAINST THE RULES DID I). To join the foundation, there are three prerequisites.

(Sits on a bench. A small, white housecat jumps on the same bench. Karn begins caressing the catīs back, slowly, almost obliviously. Camera angle spins a bit, revealing a small road of marble lined over both sides with golden statues of dire bears in several positions, and a square hedge barrier surrounding a white, small mansion. The hedge is over the mansion itself...)
Itīs such a nice place... Those statues were bought only a couple months ago. I paid for this place for us to use as headquarters. The statues are pretty, right? Theyīre worthless, though... Itīs not actual gold. Itīs bear, petrified and then reshaped into a precious metal. Drives costs low... Back to our issues...
First, you must agree to become a dragon terminator (letīs keep it to dragon slayer for simplicity, shall we?). This is, you must agree that you are mostly focused in the termination (slaying, please) of dragons and their allies/relatives. You may skip this step if you will, there is no means to prove such a thing. None that anybody here wants to use, at least. Iīm a warrior, not a mind-reader, and I will stay like that.
Second, you should give our ears a feast with a tale of you, a character, or your namesake against a dragon (any). Post your battle there, in whatever format you please.
Third and Final, create a hyperlink within the following formula you insert in your signature:

"Dragon slayers guild Member Number #00+(your member number)"

The hyperlink must go into post Number 1 of this thread, where Iīll register everyone who joins.
Then, you can begin getting our super-secret stuff... more on this when we have three members.
Or perhaps we can begin missions... but for that we need missions. More on this when we number five, and we have actual missions to take.
Iīm working on that. Soon Iīll create some missions for members to take. I hope we all gain something from them. Trust me, not ALL of them require you to kill dragons. They will be dragon-focused, though.
Missions are going to show themselves in posterior posts. Missionsī log, notices and results will also be displayed in post 1.
Please join. Thereīs much to do...

Three threats and a blow.

Am I reading this wrong, in that the last attack wouldn't hit the AC 36? Only natural 20s hit automatically, 18 doesn't, even as a crit.

And were it a dragon that were actually smart, it would have used Locate Creature and not given him all that time to heal.

A bronze dragon flaps down next to karn. Hundreds of other dragons land around him, circling the so called dragonslayer. So.. You hunt dragons do you? I'd like you to meet my friends from Argonnessen. Now, normally we wouldn't do this...but.... He said. Suddenly, all of the dragons unleash thier breath attacks (yes, at once). Acid, flames, lightning, and frost fly through the air, pummeling Karn. When they are done, nothing is left but a pile of ashes.

what cr was the dragon? and what kind? I assume green. If he was smart, he wouldn't have let you get anywhere near him using his wings, then do strafing runs at you.

btw, put every dragon on argonnessen (except the pacifist gold ones) on your list of enemies.

I like killing dragons...but I think the whole thing could be a lot more simple that what the OP makes it out to be (even with the horribly broken healing armband thingy).

If anyone is interested, I would pit a 13th level wizard without gear (other that spellcasting components) using a 25 PB against any dragon published by WotC. For any dragon lovers out there, you can pick the dragon and I'lll fight it here...that is if you feel up to the challenge.

Of course this challenge doesn't really matter because I will simply be using some very anti-dragon tacitcs and materials, but the challenge stands never-the-less

You could, but then you'd still have Epic dragons to contend with. Not that I'd need Epic dragons to take out a level 13 wizard, but I do so enjoy overkill.

Freakish lord. How in hell am I supposed to reply if the stupid boards donīt count even the THREAD STARTER as subscribed?
Fixed now.
Yes, most dragons can kill me, cuz they fly.
And yes, I have a bow, dragon. And my favored enemy bonus is +7. Hope you took fast healing or damage reduction with your HD>20 feats.

And "all dragons in Argonessen"... Kinda makes me think. I thought most nonmetallic dragons were solitary by nature, and well... That was mere theory. All of you breathing on me now is a fact. Turalisj...
(Evades most breath attacks that reached him, the rest negates itself due to their opposite natures [electrolyzing acid, heating ice] then jumps towards the leader-ish, and hacks him a swipe off before throwing his sword away and directing a stare. Most dragons just hit other dragons, do you know that? Thereīs no way for ALL dragons in Argonessen, even if you substract the gold ones, to hit me with ALL their simultaneous breath weapons without hitting any other dragon with it too.)
"No... I said never again. If youīre seeking for vengeance, we may continue this... some other day."

If youīre willing to enter, gabrion, please now pit yourself against any dragon. Know, however, that I frown upon those who fight a dragon CRs below.

And about the missions... Seems Iīm inspired now, with Argonessenīs dragons attempting to kill me. I just hope I survive enough as to escape this...
(Runs through the barrage of dragon corpses who died due to the othersī breath weapons, and escapes through a portal, while screaming a death threat...)
"Iīm no longer the berserker I was. But no one seems to understand it... Well, you know how to find me. I will be waiting for you, Turalisj. Yourself."

OOC: The dragon I used was the standard dragon in the MM1.
Karn Dragonsbane

12-10-05, 08:30 AM
P.S: I mean the standard red dragon.
And BTW (In-Character): Donīt touch anything while Iīm gone. And if you touch the bears, Iīll eat you.
(Rethinks it. Arenīt dragons too big?)
Iīll eat your pancreas.
(Rethinks it. Dragon bile wasnīt poison?)
Iīll eat something from your territory.
(Rethinks it. He didnīt like hunting.)
Iīll eat in your territory.
(Rethinks it. He doesnīt want to travel anymore; his days hunting are behind him. And thatīs why he started the foundation)
Iīll eat.
(Rethinks it. Heīs on diet.)
Iīll... something. Gimme time to figure out.

Heh... reminds me of a half-giant dragonslayer from Dark Sun I met once upon a time. I introduced him to the wonders of Amethyst dragons. But that was back in second edition when Amethyst dragons were much tougher (and all dragons were more impressive in general).

Well Tenzhi scared me away from fighting dieties and what not, but I'd still like to take on the challenge. Are you willing to run the dragon? If so, I propose a challenge between a 13th level human cleric (that I will need to put together) and any of the great wyrms in the SRD. If he survives we may move on to epic dragons, but lets not get ahead of ourselves...

I have just the dragon. I was saving him for a certain powergamer, but you'll do nicely. (he's a fang dragon demigod)

Just so you realize the full impact of what you are proposing: you're pitting a 13th level cleric against a 19th level Sorceror that also has access to the Cleric spell list, SR 32+, and the HD (not to mention all the other special abilities) of a dragon.

I'm going to have to declare this thread closed on account of rule 5 of the foundation guidelines.

5. Foundations that promote negativity will not be allowed on the boards. For example, foundations such as “The Anti-Foundation Foundation”, “The 3.5 is better than 3.0 Foundation”, “The Pro-Dwarf Slaughtering Foundation” are not allowed. Also, the foundation must deal with WotC products – no “The Professional Football League Foundations”.

-CLOSED-

Sorry Guys.

Sorry, but I don't get it. Can someone (maybe necro?) explain?

Notice in the "such as" list the "Pro-Dwarf Slaughtering Foundation" - now replace "Dwarf" with "Dragon" and you essentially have *this* foundation.

I PM'd necro about it, however, as I don't think it should be closed (dragonslaying being a cornerstone of D&D fantasy after all). If nothing else, I bet the WizOs would be willing to compromise with a "Monster Hunting Foundation" that wasn't singling out a particular type of monster as being anti- to.

Anyway, is someone still interested in running the evil dragon against my cleric (who may or may not be an archivist instead of a cleric)?

Now wait a second. Do you mean cut and paste from the SRD or a custom great wyrm that matches the HD presented in the SRD? Cause that's not exactly fair if you get to use sources other than the SRD when the dragon can't.

zactly. He doesn't care about fairness. Now, let me present to you... *digs through piles of dragon character sheets*
crap....um... I have him here somewhere. He was meant to be a test against powergamers/munchinks/etc. Never got to use him though. I'll have to go through everything of mine to find him...

Well you can't really play a dragon that is cut and pasted from the SRD as far as I know. Any dragon had to have feats, skills, and sorcerer spells chosen for it to be playable. If that's what you're asking about, then I'm fine with the dragon using other WotC material.

What I'm not cool with (since it isn't how dragons are normally run), is using the dragon's hoard to deck it out with magical equipment.
Don't worry, the dragon you're up against had to sacrifice his hoard to get to his spot.

Ahem, everyone took ALL this wrong.
This isnīt to promote hate among foundations.
This is to RP a little. And itīs not based on dragon-killing, but on the characters who do it. Fellow posters arenīt dragons, mind everyone, and if they RP as dragons, they RP-die as dragons. We donīt, I at least, promote hating our fellow posters.
Okay?
Now, to the premade mail. I canīt believe this thread sees so much action and I get to see it only once every week. Must get to the net more often.

Do we have any new members?
Come on, join the club. There are no quotes.
In-character: (thinking) And about all dragons in Argonessen... You better be more careful, guys. When there are more people around, perhaps we strike back. You freaks, all to one arenīt very nice odds, right? Drop dead, Iīm gonna enhance my sword a last time, this one will be the best... and most destructive enchantment ever, rivalized only by vorpalness, which I will NEVER use... Hope you all can travel as a SINGLE herd and care for ALL your obscene hoards at the same time... yes, Iīm THAT dangerous and I can still become more dangerous. Though I donīt kill anymore, a vow is merely that. Iīm still NEUTRAL evil. And you all... I donīt care how did you manage to group, but you better care now about what are you going to do with me angry and possibly with friends. And donīt call me a dragon slayer, there are positive connotations to that.

OOC, letīs keep this here, dragon foundation. Later we can go on, in some other forum, within another thread. Preferably the monsters one: youīre from the monsters sections of the MM and several splatbooks, Iīm a monster-style villain according to the BoVD...

Note about the foundation: Thereīs no need to really do anything after you enter, but itīll give you something to boast about... perhaps.
Vhell. When I begin doing the secret stuff, donīt push me too much if thereīs not much strange stuff around for exclusivity here. Iīm working with really thick limitations here; magic items can be duplicated, new weapons require too freakinī much playtesting, and new armor is impossible. New metals are out of the matter. All I can work with are feats, spells and misc equipment... Which is terribly hard to do. And I like to apply the flavor correctly. Some of what I already have written will take a mission for me to put here. And I wonīt do the missions myself. Of course, if youīve joined and want to post one item for the foundation, do so. Youīll get full credit... for better or worse.
Not to mention the missions are almost impossible to write. Does anybody watch that argentinian show, CQC? Half of the year, the small part of fiction always began with some of the guys from the show within the same room, with a large white sheet reading "new ideas", empty or with something stupid written, like an insult to someone. Then someone entered and said he had an new idea in video, with the other ones saying it was crap after watching it (it included things like backstagesī backstages, "The invisible Family", and "Mr. Sushi vs. Dr. Meat") It ended with that they said that the only thing that can be done without original ideas was TV. And Iīm not doing TV. If anybody can write a mission, please PM me. Youīll get full credit... for better or worse.
P.S: Hey, Dragon Foundation, who is Fafnir? And what is his proper name? Fafnir, Fafniel, or what? I recall hearing about him once, and that fang dragon you mentioned brought him to surface on my memory... But no more than that...

Back to the present.

Heck. No one seems to want to join...
And now, Gabrion. You can take a great wyrm on at level 13, eh? I suppose all the spells you use are official, and you donīt use anything similar to traslated Blue Magic like HD.5 death, or something.
I canīt imagine anybody Lv 13 defeating 39 HD of one of the most powerful monster types, about as powerful as the outsider type. You know the dragon will have as much time to prepare as you, right?

Nevermind. Donīt try the Great Wyrm. Try simply an adult dragon of whatever type you desire, excepting the White, Black, Force and Prismatic. Iīm online only 3 straight hours a week beginning at about 9:30 AM every saturday, so I canīt play the dragon. Besides, I lost to a mere 18th level multiclass playing as a very old red dragon! I canīt correctly use a dragon. But someone in the dragon foundation will help you, I expect. Do so, however, away from here. Those bears are golden.
BTW, by someone on the dragon foundation, can you aid him, Turalisj?
Iīd really appreciate your colaboration. BTW, you seem totally trigger-happy with those dragon guys. No offense :) , Iīm like that too... trigger-happy with dragonkillers. Just dragons are hard to find, weīre outnumbered 10 to 1, at least, and somehow they find us and come in dozens while we canīt find them.

EDIT: And I forgot, creating an actual dragon-killing character is almost impossible. I almost burnt my brains creating this Karn guy. Not to mention... did you check my full namesake? Itīs listed as "peaceful encounter". Not bullying... Oh heck. Letīs drop that rancor, please, OK? Until next time, at least.

EDIT II: Did I forget to mention? Iīm also Yan-C-Bin.

The problem though is that the name "Dragon Termination" goes against the rules of the IFGW. Being desgined to take out a specific race/class/alignment is illegal.

Well, if it were called the "Guild of Dragon Killers" or somesuch, it would probably be allright, since as Tenzhi said, dragon-killing is one of the aspects of D&D.

I wouldn't think the name would matter as much as the focus of the guild. If this guild were focused on putting down dragons and the players that use them, then it would be a problem. Since it isn't that way, there should be no problem at all.

Nevermind, Gabrion. I think you *can* play the dragon too. Look, Iīll give you an "AI script" and you will have to play it. OK?

This is what a GW dragon might know. If youīre really going all-out against a GW at level 13, go for the white... though itīs supposedly a vicious and all-violent dragon. The MM has more info about the combat techniques of dragons.

1: Most dragons will attack from surprise. As they canīt really move silently, theyīll attempt to hide in a low-light area.

2: Dragon wonīt breathe on you until it has cast a holding fog-type spell (solid fog, acid fog, cloudkill, whatever) on your position, unless you donīt seem nimble and protected at all. Grease also aids him.

3: Should it notice youīre using some kind of strange spell bound to harm him, itīll resort to quickened counterspells. YES, I STRONGLY REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT SORCERERS CANīT TAKE QUICKEN SPELL. AND I MEAN THE DRAGON WILL TAKE "Improved Counterspell" IF ITīs SMART.

4: If you use any spell to grant yourself an extreme combat prowess, it might attempt to disarm you so that you are left on fists. It has a big reach, so it can perfectly toss it away from yours.

5: A dragonīs most devastating attack isnīt actually its breath. It isnīt its claws, though most dragons donīt know this. It is its grapple, where it limits you to fists, while it has its claws and teeth. If it catches you on its mouth, then it can impunely breath on you and deny you a save. A freedom of movement is prone to dispelling, and has a focus that can be damaged with a claw. A greater dispelling might not be counterspellable, specially when it has 6 uses +1 per every 4 points of charisma bonus above +6. It might also affect your cold wards.

6: Crushing something is of use only if there are more than one; damage dealt by it is minimal compared to other kinds of damage. However it might be of use to stop you.

Well, for more info on how to properly play a GW, ask turalisj.
Argh... Weīve downed to dragon slayers... (sigh)

EDIT: Aooghly Holiness... We now break the last rule. Anybody remember our purpose? I donīt... Give me a moment.
Karn Dragonsbane

12-20-05, 09:48 AM
Okay.
Our main purpose is to aid in the construction, promotion and role-playing of characters who are mostly focused about dragons, yet arenīt (usually) dragons themselves.
Our secondary purpose is to help revive clichés as something new. I thought I had left that clear; why do you think this foundation was once called "dragon termination foundation"? Dragon slayers is not appreciated, would you present King Aedes with the fine skin of the Golden Fleece Ram? Again? And over and over and over? Dragon slayers is so clichéed it has became old. The purpose Number 2, then, is to breathe new life into most clichés.
The third purpose is to create some new brands of dragons, which may or may not be needed. Itīs mainly an exercise in statting and learning what to expect.
And our purpose D is to do some role-playing.
Sounds like hanginī around, but well. I hope it qualifies as a purpose.

-BTW, that trick functions only in Planescape, not Forgotten Realms, and only when you have an open-minded listening crowd. A big one. So, do I hit you back and try to convince you that you donīt exist?
Nevermind. This is only a "Bump" and final, now let it die. It was a bad idea from the start, just I took my time to recognize it.
And a final sidenote: Karn, in the time Iīm using it, has his hands radically bound disabling him to hurt mostly anything. Anybody has some degree of creativity, even if he just knows he breathes cold. Not to mention: Karnīs count is 66 dragons, 354 elves. So donīt say heīs picky. Besides, genocides are common in those games. Do you know Rajaat?
Not to mention, Iīm a what? I donīt know any banned adjective beginning with "d", that might be applied to a person at least. Iīm a damn? What does that mean?
AND. If you all will take me on, I agree. Iīd like to playtest it someday. Not like I mean to win, but Iīve been hurting for a confrontation lately. Perhaps that led me to make this thread... sorry if I bothered anyone.
Later Iīll pass this clean, into something that CAN be joined. I shouldīve took a look at other guilds first, donīt you think so? I didnīt mean really to create a guild to flame and let flame. I meant a guild where we could "serve cold drinks" and stat new kinds of dragons, then discuss WHAT led so many people to cloning DrizzīT over and over and over, when no one knows nothing besides he has 2 scimitars and is a dark elf, then following up with the possible satisfying alternatives. Or perhaps think about other things an interesting dungeon can have, without resorting to tables. Maybe talk puzzles, those things that are SO freakingly unused lately in dungeons. Share a bit of creativity, a chunk of that landscape within our souls...
What about the "cliché redeemers guild"?
Oh, wait. The gran finale...
(Karn is standing in the middle of a yellowish desert, after running away through the portal. Then suddenly...)
-How appropiate...
(After having sliced a small wound on the lead brass dragon, the rest of the curse the last dragon he attacked before founding the guild takes effect. And he dies... But something is not right...)
-Freaking b****... Iīll never get any rest thanks to you...
(This night: K rising as a vampire, under the control of his mistress, then attempting to found a guild heīll be hardly able to attend. Mayhap I stat her, then, in the 1001 BBEGS thread... Mayhap only.)
-Someone please burn me to cinders...

Okay, I just reread my post. I was much harder than I needed to be. To the point of being a downright a******. I apologize to you and to everyone on this thread for my crude post. But I'll try to be of help now. How about instead of having a guild that kills off all sorts of dragons, you change it to one that is paid to go after dragons that have a bounty on their head or are troubling a town. This would keep all the other dragons from killing you. Change the name to the guild from "The Dragon Termination Foundation" to the "Dragon Slayers Guild" or the such. I know it dosn't sound much better, but trust me it would be much more forgiving than the other one. I'm not saying you have to change your character, just his guild. He can still hate every dragon, but he should be smart enough to use the guild as a cover for what he is really doing. Now if you don't mind, I have a post to delete. (as for what I called...lets just not talk about that ever again.)
Karn Dragonsbane

01-17-06, 08:27 AM
No, nevermind. Most of what you said was true. Besides this never needed to exist. Even like that, thereīs nothing that can be done without members. And this isnīt appealing at all... Now that I look at it, it doesnīt appeal even to me. Iīll begin a new one, perhaps not as specific as "we kill dragons because we hate them".
Thanks anyway, rudeness is necessary at times. Specially with critters as weird as me.
Besides, if every dragon-playing guy dislikes anything that kills dragons, then Iīll create a guild that doesnīt focus on killing dragons. Itīs not necessary to kill dragons for a game. I specially like as a player the pacific encounters with monsters. The puzzles, you know.
