| Dyne12-25-04, 12:35 AM | I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be one already. But, since a Forest Dwellers Foundation doesn't seem to exist, I've decided to create one myself for all my fellow lovers of green and life. Feel free to make yourselves at home. Before you stand some of the largest trees you have ever seen in your life. Massive monuments of green and life tower over you, providing a safe roof over your head in the form of a canopy. The forest before you is filled with green and life of all kinds. All forms of life reside in every crevice, and you can feel that the very ground beneath you is alive. Deeper into the forest, you find small buildings that have been built above the ground and that circle around the bases of the trees, using their massive trunks as a stable foundation. A figure above you climbs down on a rope ladder from one of these buildings. His clothing is a simple green, and his face is welcoming. "Welcome to the Deep Forest. It is nice to see new visitors. Feel free to make the forest your home." |

| Dyne12-25-04, 12:41 AM | To start things off: I have recently become interested in the Sorcerer and Bard as Spontaneous Spellcasters. I have always found magic to be interesting, but I am finding much enjoyment in exploring the idea of not having to prepare your spells ahead of time. I find the Bard in particular to suit my tastes. I have always loved music, and the Bard fits me perfectly. But, I also have a love of the forest. My idea (if it hasn't already been done) is to create an Alternate Bard that is closer to the forest. He would basically be like the standard Bard, but his spells would be more in tune with nature, and he would borrow some spells and abillities from the Druid and the Ranger. I'm currently trying to work out what spells to put on his spell list. But, so far, I've decided that he should at least have the Wild Empathy ability. What do you guys think? |
| Aramar the Black12-26-04, 05:28 PM | Hello, Dyne. Mind if I join? I too have been into spontaniour casters of late, but for different reasons. Sorcerers becuase of thier ancestry and ties to BloodLore, and Bards for thier songs and approch to magic. I too, have a love of the forest, and the buety of nature. That is way, in the entire PC party that I created, each persona being a different facet of my personality and interests, I have a ranger and a druid. Give me some time and I'll dig around for naturesitic spells and songs suited for the Bard. oh, and I don't know exactly where it is, or who created it, (you might have to use the search funtion or a PrC compendium) but there exists an Elder Bard PrC, which was strongly tied to nature and creatures of the forest (fey and whatnot) it might give you ideas, if I remeber its abilites well enough. |
| Dyne12-26-04, 05:32 PM | Awesome. Welcome, Aramar the Black. I'll take a look at that Elder Bard PrC when I have the time. If the IFWG starts up again, I was thinking that we could have a whole group of PC's, each one involved with nature, that could all fill a certain niche. A Barbarian could be a good muscle; Rangers could be really good archers or fighters, as well as providing some spellcasting power; Druids would do what they do best, using their magic to commune with nature; Clerics of nature deities could fill the usual niche of a Cleric; and the Bard that we're working on would fill the regular role of a Bard, but do so in a way more connected to the forest. By-the-way, I do certainly hope that the IFWG starts up again. :( |
| Aramar the Black12-26-04, 10:48 PM | hmm, and if you happened to see a recent issue of Dragon, #324 they had written a variant monk that was in tune with nature. They also had a wild defender variant ranger, but that's "beside the point" if you will. And Dragon #323 had an artical for making the rouge more of awilderness class, but by way of certain application of existing class rules. As for the IFWG, I don't think some of the WizOs approved completely, and suggest we move the competing somewhere else, but then, you've seen the announcment, so you know. If they do start up again, I think the only way we would see them soon is if they start up as a secret underground society. :) Ah! The Elder Bard (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=54398&highlight=Elder+Bard) Lookin through it agian, I'm actualy not sure what to get from it, but I'll let you see for yourself. |
| Dyne12-26-04, 10:57 PM | What are you talking about? There are no "secret underground societies." :shifty: I don't have Dragon magazine, so I've never seen any of those things. If you could post them up, PM them, or email them, it would be nice. |
| Aramar the Black12-26-04, 11:07 PM | The Dragon Magizine content is, under the OGL, not allowed for reproduction of any kind. in a nutshell, however, the article for rogues explains what king of skills and stragegies on would employ if they were to have thier rogue be more a of a hunter, trapper, or scout. For monks, the one articale talks about different backrounds for monks, and what kind of training and outlook a monk would have depending on it. (Nature monks- very solitary, adn learned thier skill from the aspects of nature.) As for the rest, I'm not sure what to do. unless you know the OGL much better than I do. (which shouldent be to hard) |
| Dyne12-26-04, 11:13 PM | I don't know what OGL is, but I'm assuming you mean copyright law. In that case, I'm pretty sure it's okay to share it with a few friends. As long as you're not selling it or mass-producing it for use by lots of people. I think it'd be okay to email it. Probably shouldn't post it here, though. I'm not gonna be buying a subscription to Dragon magazine any time soon, so they wouldn't have any losses. And I may subscribe to it later anyway, when I have the money. Since it wouldn't cause them to lose money, I don't think there's any problem with emailing it. |

A figure above you climbs down on a rope ladder from one of these buildings. His clothing is a simple green, and his face is welcoming. "Welcome to the Deep Forest. It is nice to see new visitors. Feel free to make the forest your home." A bird suddenly lifts to flight overhead, a twig snaps, a squirrel scurries up a tree next to a hooded figure. Her form is loosely covered in a hunter green cloak having an elaborate gold writing woven into the garment around the edges. Her softly glowing amber eyes can be seen from inside her hood as she slowly approaches. She leans forward, tilts her head to see someone or something moving about in the forest. The elven maiden speaks softly with a thick rustic accent. "Greetings. My Name is Verlansia. Thankyou for the invitation. " She sits under the shade of a tree. |
| Demonfey12-27-04, 11:38 AM | {Crowley spots the forest, and walks in. As he goes through, he remembers all the peaceful moments he ever had, all of them in forests.} Maybe I should stay here, and join. |
| Dyne12-28-04, 01:41 AM | "All of you are most welcome. Any who revere nature for its beauty and strength can stay here in peace, under the protection of our guardian, *Achuak*, the Green Dragon." That's gonna be my character for this foundation, a Green Dragon. I'm still not certain about the name, though. Perhaps something in Sylvan, rather than Draconic? Anybody know Sylvan? |
| NightScreamer2012-28-04, 02:22 AM | IMC we always spoke Sylvan as Urban Slang... Don't ask... |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-28-04, 03:31 AM | Not to try to stop anything going on her, but I did try to start the 'Beastmaster's Preserve', a place for rangers, druids and other nature enthusiasts. Only got one member :( -- Umbra, the starter of the preserve would very likely belong to this, so count me in ;) |
| Dyne12-28-04, 10:40 AM | "Her?" You're not referring to me, are you? Maybe I should put it in my sig that I'm male. NightScreamer, I was thinking on naming the dragon a Sylvan word. Maybe the Sylvan word for Green. |
| Demonfey12-28-04, 12:10 PM | "Her?" You're not referring to me, are you? Maybe I should put it in my sig that I'm male. NightScreamer, I was thinking on naming the dragon a Sylvan word. Maybe the Sylvan word for Green. I can find the draconic word for green. Wait, that is the name you already have...and its achuak (adj.) |
| Dyne12-28-04, 07:46 PM | Yeah, I already have Draconic. But, draconic sounds rather ugly. :yuck: I don't think it really fits my character, since he's supposed to be the guardian of the forest. I don't want his name to sound like he's choking on something. |
| turalisj12-28-04, 09:15 PM | can me and my woodling elf druid join? :D |
| Dyne12-28-04, 09:44 PM | Woodling? You're all welcome to join. |
| Aramar the Black12-28-04, 09:45 PM | Well, to stay close to the Draconic name, but make it sound different, alter the spelling a bit, (to ashauk), and pronounce it like this: ahhshaeahk. help? or no? |
| Aramar the Black12-28-04, 09:47 PM | Woodling? Woodling: A template released (or re-released) in the MM III The creature is made of wood/plants, but that's all I know. |
| Silmarien Aldalome12-28-04, 10:03 PM | Hi there Aramar - good to see you. I'm going to want to "grow" things here. We very much needed a forested thing. Also, the HEF is in the middle of an ancient forest - so - there are all sorts of Woodland things I want to work on. Not the least of which is an idea that throws back to a "Forestal". Has anyone read The Land series - there's a mythological creature in it waiting to be written. stav |
| Aramar the Black12-28-04, 10:48 PM | Ah, yes, the Forestals. And the living force of the One Forest. But should the Forestal be a creature, template, or PrC? I would say creature or template, as they were created by the One Forest; but then the Forestal of Garroting Deep transformed Hile Troy, a human, into a Forestal, which eitehr warrants a template, spell or Forestal abilty or ritual that that can tranform others into Forestals. |
| Silmarien Aldalome12-28-04, 10:55 PM | Ah, yes, the Forestals. And the living force of the One Forest. But should the Forestal be a creature, template, or PrC? I tend to lean towards a "creature" - but having said that, I agree with you about the ritual, spell, and transformation aspects. I seem to remember they were a fusion of Earthpower and Sentience (of trees). And that the forest's size was a function of the Forestal's power. The bigger the forest....etc. I rememer them being able to send you telepathic messages - forest whispers - and also that the Forestal had great power at his disposal, but bound by the limits of the forest. What level "thing" do you think it should be? |
| Dyne12-28-04, 11:04 PM | Whoa, hold on a bit. What are Forestals? What is the "One Forest?" |
| Aramar the Black12-28-04, 11:27 PM | Well, we first have to figure out what the minimal forest size would have to be in order to warrant a forest. Too small and they may well be just treants, nymphs, or dryads. i would say that a forest at least a rough mile or two square would be minimum size, but even then the forestal would be at minimum capibilities, being more than enough for the masses, but a fair challenge for a few higher level PC class individuals. Say, CR 5-7. Then, as the forest size increases by a set factor, so to does the power (hit dice, spells/spell-lifke abilties, etc) of the Forestal. Perhaps the abiltiy of creating a new Forestal by a Forestal could be a special abiltiy for higher-level forestals, which would simply change the target into a forest of a certain level (dependent on teh power of the casting forestal) How much like a template this could be depends on if it is seen fit that the chosen character retains abilties from previous levels, or if they are just suddenly and total turned into a new forestal: nothing reminisiant of the old being other than memories. On the Forest Bard, I hqave suggestions for abilities, if they have not already been considered: Spells amy be either divine or arcane. as the bard may draw his music from nature itself, or may go about it as traditional bards do, weaving from nothingness with the power of thier souls. Bardic Music: it should be that the forest bard's music focuses little on inspiring and such effects that normal bards produce, and rather on effects dealing with nature; however, other than creating spell-like abilities (which bardic music might do anyway), I am at a loss. Also, he should somehow be able to draw form either the druid spell list, a cumtom spell list, of druid and bardic spells, or the naturistic domains. (Sun, Animal, Plant, possibly the elemental as well.) |
| Dyne12-28-04, 11:44 PM | I was thinking that the Forest Bard cast Divine Spells, since he basically calls upon nature as a deity (at least, that's how I reason that Druids and Rangers use Divine magic). I'm thinking that his abilities would still be inspiring, but maybe in a sort of different way. When I think of a Forest Bard, I think of the cliched fife player who charms forest animals. I think we should create a custom spell list, using spells drawn from the Bard, Druid, and Ranger (as well as possibly some of those domains, if they're not already covered). |
| Aramar the Black12-28-04, 11:54 PM | Whoa, hold on a bit. What are Forestals? What is the "One Forest?" Forestals: Guardians of the remander of the One Forest. Wielding power to fight back opression and evil from the Forest. Their power is often based on the size of the portion of Forest they protect, and as it weakens, so do they. the One Forest: The ancient Forest that used to cover all the Land, before being cut through, split, attacked, ravaged, divided,a dnwhat not by ignorant humans and foul Ravers. Ravers: Servents of Lord Foul (the prime BBEG of the series.) As per Forest Bard: I tend to think of either fife player or singer, who can charm a flower, call his animals friends, or have a conversation with the old trees of the forest. Or, the mighty bard singing in an awesome cresendo, as he sits in a grove, in a meditive stance, and he asks the very forces of nature (weather, animals. plants) to fight with and for him and aginast the evil that plauges them. Or, the shadowy piper in the trees, whose music sends chills and possibly fear through those that hear it; and dark, fingers of mist swirl, thier purposes thier own and the pipers. And the small fey-kin come out to dance and play. |
| Dyne12-29-04, 12:36 AM | I agree on the Forest Bard. The image I get somewhat resembles Fey creatures. I was thinking on getting rid of the Bardic Knowledge ability (since he probably wouldn't have as much knowledge of rumors, living in the forest (unless they were rumors of stuff going on in the forest?)) and replace it with the Druid's/Ranger's Wild Empathy ability. Also, we could either nerf the Bardic Music ability so that it's not as effective at inspiring or that it is more nature-focused (such as calling, charming, and/or inspiring forest creatures). We could add some of the abilities of the Druid, since the Forest Bard would share a similar bond to the forest. I'll take a look at the Druid abilities and see what I can come up with. |
| Valarian's Beloved12-29-04, 03:24 AM | "All of you are most welcome. | Dyne12-29-04, 04:01 PM | Anextlomarus.... Rather difficult to spell, but it works very well. I think I'll use that. Thank you, Valarian's Beloved. :) |
| Demonfey12-29-04, 04:13 PM | How about we call him Anex for short. |
| turalisj12-29-04, 09:10 PM | lol. "well, well, what a lovely community of lesser beings." an elf walks in. next to him is a bearhound. "my name is jsilarut, i am a chosen of the forests. this is my partner, brawler. i have heard from the woods about your place." :D my woodling elf druid and his partner, a bearhound, gotta love those bearhounds. |

Alright, Jsilarut, may I ask why you decided to insult us? Does that make you feel like a big elf? {He pulls out a dog biscuit and throws it to the bearhound} Why did you have to spell your name backwards, turalisj? It's such an old trick. |
| Valarian's Beloved12-29-04, 09:14 PM | How about we call him Anex for short. Verlansia nods in agreement as she wipes aways the images on the ground. Her amber eyes glowing through the hood of her cloak as she looks up to the new arrivals, brushing her hands together. |
| Aramar the Black12-29-04, 11:00 PM | The Elf sitting by the tree, who had previously been lost in thought, now looks up to watch the promising interaction between the fey'ri and the newcomer. A small smile plays on his lips |
| Demonfey12-30-04, 07:53 PM | Let's see, our current ranks are mainly elves, a woodling, a bearhound, and the unholy spawn of a demon and an unwilling elf, a.k.a me. And soon, a green dragon, probably of very young age if he is thinking of changing his name, is in charge. Anyone here interested in joining the elf foundation? |
| turalisj12-30-04, 10:06 PM | "grr, do not tempt me you foolish demon. i should rip you to shreds for your mockery!" the bearhound roars in common. Couldn't resist, Brawler. Besides, I don't think fire elemental tastes too good. {With that, brawler notices that Crowley has just changed his left hand into a gout of flame, and then turned it back.} Feel free to try shoving that biscuit down my throat. I know about your kind, and quite a few other species. I mock you simply to see your reaction. Here, have a cow. I know you like to hunt, but hey, a meal is a meal, right? And cow can taste good... {With that, Crowley opens a dimension door and a cow comes through.} |
| Aramar the Black12-30-04, 10:30 PM | "Behave, little ones. We may be an interesting and diverse little family, but we are a family nonetheless. Let us be kind to one another. Save any anger for our enemies." With a smile, the elf leanes back and lets the otehr return to what they were doing. |

Hey Dyne, take a look at the 1st Ed Bard. This was the first PrC in D&D. It started as a fighter went to fifth or so level then switched to thief and went to seventh or so then became a Bard. The class got Languages everyother level, Lore every level and trained as a druid. It was a 23 level class and the bard hit 13th level Druid at level 23. I've seen variants that also gave wizard magic, my fav was a straight split half druid magic/half wizard magic this gave 7th level spells for both druid and wizard with the music and lore of the Bard, and the special abilities of the druid including shapechange. |

BTW have you seen the Sublime Chord? :dancin:  |

I was thinking on getting rid of the Bardic Knowledge ability  :ahem: Also, we could either nerf the Bardic Music ability :yuck:  :headexplo :banghead: WHY???? BK is one of the traditional facets of the Bard. The Bard just KNOWS things. Why is it whenever anyone talks about changing a class they start off with "We can nerf....." You are making a class that is specialized THAT creates the balance, you are not going to take a Forest Bard into a dungeon or Urban Sprawl (or if you do you wouldn't get much mileage) so Why Nerf it just to give it extra abilities? When you specialize a wizard you cut out other sorces of magic, that is the balance. Think about it: Forest Wizard: Specialized Abjuration, banned Necromancy, and Illusion. Further specialized in 'nature' no 'unnatural' things and Spell thematics -Green leafy things. This would get +1 spells per level due to Spec. and a further +2 DC when in the forest, but would take a +2 penalty on DC and lose the +1 spell per level when out of the forest. This is perfectly balanced and you don't need to nerf the skillset or lose feats or change the hp ('course I think the lowest PC hp should be d6, but that is another story) You could even legitimately add more abilities, a blended familiar companion? low level wildshape (ie 1 per day as a 5th level druid) |

One last thing - I saw Forest Bard under projects and I am willing to work on the prc with whoever is working on it. -Frosty |

| baerdith01-10-05, 11:27 PM | The Forest Bard Alignment: Any neutral. Hit Die: d6. Class Skills: The forest bard’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Gather Information (Cha), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Speak Language (n/a), Spellcraft (Int), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), and Use Magic Device (Cha). Skill Points at 1st Level: (6 + Int modifier) x4. Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 6 + Int modifier. Class Features: Languages: The Forest Bard must take up tutelege with a Druid sometime before he reaches 3rd level. At this time he picks up the Druidic language. The Forest Bard also gains bonus languages at levels 6, 10, 14, 17 and 19. These must all be in the languages of the forest(ie: Slyvan, Fey, Satyr, Centaur, or animal). Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A forest bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip. They are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields) and can cast bard spells while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, if wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield they incur a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclass forest bard still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes. Spells: A bard casts arcane spells, which are drawn from the bard spell list. He can cast any spell he knows without preparing it ahead of time. Every bard spell has a verbal component (singing, reciting, or music). To learn or cast a spell, a bard must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a bard’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the bard’s Charisma modifier. Spells Known: +2 per bard level, replace all Summon Monster spells with Summon Nature's Ally spells Add the following to the Bard list: Create Water, Purify Food and Drink, Charm Animal, Easy Trail, Faerie Fire, Goodberry, Speak with Animals, Animal Messenger, Embrace the Wild, Hold Animal, Tree Shape, Wood Shape, Dominate Animal, Speak with Plants, Stone Shape, Animal Growth, Spike Stones, Commune With Nature, Hallow, UnHallow, Find the Path, Stone Tell. Spells per day: As Bard +1 spell for each spell level 0-6. Upon reaching 5th level, and at every third bard level after that (8th, 11th, and so on), a forest bard can choose to learn a new spell in place of one he already knows. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least two levels lower than the highest-level bard spell the bard can cast. A bard may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that he gains new spells known for the level. As noted above, a forest bard need not prepare his spells in advance. He can cast any spell he knows at any time, assuming he has not yet used up his allotment of spells per day for the spell’s level. Bardic Knowledge: A forest bard may make a special bardic knowledge check with a bonus equal to his bard level + his Intelligence modifier to see whether he knows some relevant information about local notable people, legendary items, or noteworthy places. At least 5 ranks in Knowledge Nature gives a +2 bonus on the check.Usually this knowledge is limited to a forest, but most forest bards have a store of ancient tales and can pull obscure historical facts almost out of the air. (If the forest bard has 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (history), he gains a +2 bonus on this check.) A successful bardic knowledge check will not reveal the powers of a magic item but may give a hint as to its general function. A bard may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; this sort of knowledge is essentially random. 1st Level Bardic Music, Bardic Knowledge, Wild Empathy, Nature Sense 2nd Counter Song, Fascinate, Animal Companion 3rd Inspire Courage +1, Bonus language: Druidic 4th Bonus Feat: Green Ear 5th Inspire competence, Woodland stride 6th Trackless Step , Bonus language 7th Suggestion, Resist nature’s lure 8th Wild shape (1/day) 9th Bonus Feat: Jack of All Trades 10th Bonus language 11th Inspire Courage +2 12th Song of Freedom 13th Inspire greatness 14th Bonus Feat: Obscure Lore, Bonus language 15th Song of Arcane Power (Sublime Chord ability) 16th Inspire Courage +3 17th Bonus language 18th Mass Suggestion 19th Bonus language 20th Bonus Feat: Chant of Fortitude --------------------------- Any Suggestions on making it better? |

As such, the Forest Bard knows the same amount of spells, but has one less spell slot per day per level. (Ex. While a 19th lvl. bard may cast 3 6th lvl spells per day, the Forest ard only casts 2.) However, the Forest Bard may choose a clerical domain from he gains up to the 6th level spell. The domains he may choose from are: Animal, Plant, and Sun. (more may be allowed according the DM and campiagn options) Having the abilitiy to cast out of domain replace the lost spell per day. Verdent knowledge: While the forest bard may travel to somewhat less places than the average bard, he still collects a wellspring of knowlege from nature. This ability functions like the Draconic Knowledge feat, except that all possible DC deacrease are gone, to be replaces by the following: a DC decrease of -5 if the individual if a Drd, Rng, Brb, of forest bard. And a DC decrease of -5 if the character lives in the area. Fasinate: As the original bardic abiltiy Suggestion: As the original bardic abiltiy Song of Freedom: As the original bardic ability, except for the following: Lvl 15, Perform Ranks 18, and it create the effects of the spell Freedom of Movement as well. Inspire Nature's Courage: This works like the original bardic abiltiy, but it effects all animals, magical beasts, or plant creatures that can hear the Forest Bard. Gift of Nature: -Animal Companion: This functions like the Ranger abiitiy of the same name. Note that a Foest bard may have more than one animal companian. -Wildshape: Only a Forest Bard of at least 6th level may choose this abiltiy. This functions like the 5th level druid abilitiy. A Forest bard may chose this ability multiple times, allowing an extra use per day each time, and the abiltiy to wildshape into large creature, and then a plant-like creature the third time this gift is chosen. -Wild Empathy: As the Drd. ability of the same name. -Woodland Stride: As the Drd. abilitiy of the same name. -Resist Nature's Lure: A the Drd. abilitiy of the same name. -Song of the Forest: grants and aditional domain -Secret of the Fey: +2 bonus on Move Silently, Swim, or Spot checks. Also grants knowledge of the Sylvan language. -Secret of Nature: metamagic feat A rough draft yet, and I don't have a clue what spell options should. I like your spell list though, beardith. |
| baerdith01-12-05, 06:36 PM | Aramar: I like the Inspire Nature's Courage. I am not familiar with the Draconic Knowledge, so I can't comment. The Gifts of Nature are intriguing, but I feel they are a bit limiting. I llike some of the abilities, but 4 slots for eight abilities just doesn't feel right. The alignment I feel has to retain some neutralilty ( I know, but I'm a 1e and 2e player from waaay back ;) ) |
| Aramar the Black01-13-05, 02:23 PM | Yeah, as I was posting the class, I relized that I proably didn't have enough gift of nature slots. This comes from my modeling this class off the Core Bard, so i only have abilities at the levels the Core Bard had abilities. i was afraid of making it overpowered. And I have been trying to think of more interesting Gifts of Nature, but making them bard-oriented made the task a little harder. As for alignment, I was thinking about only allowing nuetral evil, chaotic nuetral, nuetral, or neutral good. I think some nuetrality would be important, but I can't really envision a Lawful nuetral Forest Bard. To comment on your version: What praytell, are the bonus feats you offer? I've only ever heard of Green Ear, I think. But the many druid/nautre oriented abilities gives it a nice feel. |

Chant of Fortitude: Bardic Music gives allies the Diehard Feat. Song of Arcane Power: Next Spell cast has a bonus based on Perform check. |
| Quarion Liadon01-14-05, 12:13 AM | Like the trees of the forest, this community has grown and thrived, even with the absence of the Guardian of the Forest. But, fear not, for the guardian may return. It's good to see this foundation is still around and doing well. On the Forest Bard: I never thought of giving it Wild Shape. I've never heard of a Forest Bard in pulp fiction having that ability, and I think it's exclusive to Druids. I would prefer that the Wild Shape ability be replaced with something more relevant. Probably the most notable feature of a Forest Bard is his ability to call and charm animals. Perhaps the Bardic Music ability could be adjusted so that a Forest Bard's Fascinate and Suggestion abilities only function on forest creatures, but he would gain those abilities earlier. The Forest Bard might have a Summon Nature's Ally ability built into the class aside from spells. I was thinking that a Forest Bard have an Animal Companion, exactly like a Druid. Since Forest Bard's excel at charming animals, he would be just as good (if not better) at attracting and keeping an Animal Companion as a Druid. So, I don't think he should receive a penalty for an Animal Companion like a Ranger does. And that was an interesting idea on the Domains, Aramar. EDIT: Also, the Forest Bard should probably have some restriction against using metal armor, like a Druid. |

| Aramar the Black01-14-05, 10:19 AM | @ Quarion: Well, I thought that giving the Forest Bard limites wildshape abilties added a nice twist. And now apparently something new and outisde the usual lines of thinking. And the Gift of nature abilties I give let the Forest Bard slightly custimize his abilties, so a Forest Bard who studied the "Song of the Animals" and spent a lot of time with the creatures of the forest gains the limited abilites to become like his dearest friends. I'll consider the druid animal companion ability. I had thought about the abiltiy to charm animals, that that started to come out as the Inspire Nature's Courage. But maybe suggestion and fasinate could work on animals as well? You see, one of my visions of the Forest Bard (most likely the CN version) was a musician of the forest, playing little tricks and such with un-forest folk. That that translates to me as keeping the fascinate and suggestion abilties working on common folk and such. So that the Bard can entice people with the sound of nature, play playful tricks on thier enemies, or just charm poeple to come in and join in the dance. |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart01-14-05, 05:19 PM | I like the idea Aramar but prehaps we should take it futhur and eventually devlop the class to have the ability to talk and influence beasts, magical beats and even plants. Just my opinion -Frosty |
| Quarion Liadon01-14-05, 11:07 PM | My "vision" of the Forest Bard's abilities would have focused more on Enchantment effects than anything. The Forest Bard would excel at charming, especially animals. He could also pull minor tricks, but he really comes into his own with enchantments. Perhaps instead of the Nature's Gift abilities, you could instead have a focus for the Character Class. Some focusses might include more of a Druid approach (which would include the Wild Shape ability), one would be the animal charmer, one would the the satyr-like trickster, another might be a more militant bard who works music to inspire his allies to battle, and leading the fight for the forest. To allow the Wild Shape ability to any and every Forest Bard kinda cheapens the ability, in my opinion. Druids are known specifically for their Wild Shape ability. Even outside of D&D, Wild Shape is a Druid's trademark. It represents a closeness to nature to the extent that the Druid becomes one with nature. A non-Druid using a Druid-specific ability makes my head swim, unless of course the character chose a particular focus that would basically make him a Druid that could sing pretty. I do very much like the idea of allowing a customizable class to suit the needs of the characters. This is how I think all of D&D should be, instead of multiclassing being a necessity to make a character totally unique and fit a certain style. The system might work like this: At 1st-level, the Forest Bard chooses a focus that will determine his abilities, and his strengths and weaknesses. Every so many levels, he can either increase in his abilities of that particular focus or, if he desires more adaptability, he could choose another focus. |
| baerdith01-15-05, 06:54 PM | On the Forest Bard: I never thought of giving it Wild Shape. I've never heard of a Forest Bard in pulp fiction having that ability, and I think it's exclusive to Druids. Historically (and in first ed ;)) Bards were a subset of Druid. In the Legends of the Celts there is virtually no distinction made between Druids and Bards. And there are many cases of Bards shape changing (look at Taliesin). As for the armor, Rangers can wear any why not Forest Bards? Druids are the only ones who take the spiritual oaths. Edit: I think the Forest Bard should get Druidic language too. What do you guys think? |
| Aramar the Black01-17-05, 12:56 PM | I was considering the druidic language for the Forest Bard, but seeing ow rangers don't get it, I was tentative with this class. As, a matter of fact, Quarion, when creating the class, and the Gift of Nature abilties, I was a think of a design similar to Szatany's ultimate Classes, which features custimizable abilites. But I wasn't sure if we/I had enough ideas and abilties to actualy create paths for the Forest Bard. Hence, the Gifts of Nature, and a way for one to create his own kind of path. He who chose Wildshape when ever he gets the chance is the Druid-assosite, he who chooses animal companions would be like the animal charmer/friend, and he who choose Gifts such as Song of the Forest and Secret of Nature would be those who delve into the Great Lore of nature, eschewing much of a social life. A hermit. But, if we could develope individual paths, that would be very cool. And those who chose the "Druid-assosiate" path could maybe learn the Druidic language. (although, is we go through with this, and the many more ideas that are out there, like the Cantor, and make them all ultimate classes, along with those in teh supplemant books, a single campaign could have about 20-30 core classes, each with at least 5 paths. that makes 100-150 different "class" options for the character to choose from, and THEN he gets to go and custumize. Fun, no? :D :) ) |

Sadly, pressing matters have taken my attention, and I have been on many a quest to settle these matters. My business is not settled, however. I am here only for a short time. I come to let you know I am well and to settle a few things here. First is that there never was an intended leader of the forest. I have never claimed lordship over the woodland creatures, only guardianship. It is good to see that this realm has settled into a peaceful democracy. I will be going away shortly. When I shall return, I do not know. Until I do, though, look to Quarion Liadon for guidance in my stead. I trust him with my life, and I know that he will be good to you. This is good bye, then. I shall see you all again as soon as I can." With that, the green dragon beats his wings and soars away to the distance. It's been a long while. It's good to see this foundation is still alive. And Frostbite, I didn't get the idea from you because I haven't visited the Half-Elven Foundation in a LONG time. I began this foundation of my own design. Welcome Mr_Grimm and Frostbite_Ravenheart, new members (since I've been gone). I'll edit the members list now. I may be here for keeps, and I may not. In the meantime, treat Quarion Liadon as your leader (in times in which you will need a leader). I may post up a Forest Bard class in a little bit. It's good to see you all again. :) It's Dyne! :w00t: :dancin: |

| Dyne01-20-05, 12:41 AM | Here's what I've gotten for a Forest Bard so far: Handle Animal, Heal, Ride, Spot, and Survival added to class skills. Animal Companion as a Druid. Wild Empathy at 1st level. Woodland Stride at 7th level. Bardic Music ability is instead called Natural Music, and only functions in a forest or on a forest creature (a creature with forests listed as its environment). So far, I've gotten that it will basically be the same as the regular bard except for a few extra Druid abilities and a restriction on Bardic Music. However, the spell list will be completely different. I'm not completely sure how I'm going to do that. |

There are those that are a bit primordial in nature, with jaws that bite and claws that catch. The driak is such a creature. Living deep in the heart of the forest, the rarely-encountered driak is a serpentine, dragon-like creature. It is covered in polished, wooden scales from its toothy maw to the tip of its whip-like tail. Older driak tend to have moss, lichen, and tree fungi of various sorts growing on their bodies. Combat: The driak is a hunter, preferring to attack its prey from ambush. Such attacks are generally territorial in nature, as the driak draws nourishment from its tree. It will occasionally supplement its diet with raw meat and insects, sharing such nourishment in turn with its tree. Breath Weapon (Su): A driak has two types of breath weapon - a 30' long cone of thorns and needles that does 2d4 points of piercing damage, and a cone of poisonous leaves 30' long. Creatures caught in the cone of leaves take no damage but are afflicted with the condition irritated for 1d4 days if they fail a Fortitude saving throw (DC 14). Irritated is a condition of general discomfort which causes the afflicted creature to take a -1 penalty on all attack rolls and skill checks. Tree Dependent (Su): Each driak is mystically bound to a single, enormous hardwood tree and must never stray more than 500 yards from it. Any who do become ill and die within 4d6 hours. A driak’s tree does not radiate magic. |

| Tenzhi01-20-05, 06:07 PM | wow, a dryad crossed with a wyrmling green dragon....... Other than the fact that it looks nothing like a green dragon, doesn't have the same kind of breath weapon as a green dragon, doesn't have any of the green dragon's special abilities, and isn't in fact even green. They have the Dragon type in common, but a lot of things have that type that have no relation to the green dragon. It is undeniably a draconic creature based around the same tree spirit concept as the driad. More specifically, it takes the generic concept of the drake and merges it with the tree spirit concept. And incidentally, the spellthief is a base class, not a PrC. |

I hadn't paid attention to the fact until you just mentioned it. To be honest, Complete Adventurer is the only one I've looked at very closely. I like all three of the base classes it presents, but I think the scout is my favourite. Conceptually I really like the spellthief, but as a player I prefer to keep things relatively simple and spell-free. |
| Kingside_Bishop01-24-05, 03:19 AM | You find a blank sticking out of the ground just outside of your forest... blank, except for three symbols... Upon examination, there appears to be a message written in ink visible only to the arcane eye... -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~--~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ךּבֿסּ The Shadow's Breath and Blade The Contract TermsHerein lie the terms that all patrons of the Assassin's Guild must agree to when contracting a task. All contracts are considered binding by the Assassin's Guild. The contracting guild agrees to pay the Assassin’s Guild an amount determined by the Assassin’s Guild, which will be disclosed before the pact is made, and which will be paid upon completion of the contract. Half of this amount is kept by the Assassin’s Guild, while the other half is paid directly to the assassin performing the task. The Assassin’s Guild agrees to perform the agreed upon task during the month specified by the contracting guild. If a month is not specified, the Assassin’s Guild will perform the task within three months. The contracting guild may request a specific assassin to perform the task, but this increases the cost of the task, administered by increasing the cost Multiplier of the contract by one. In the event that the Assassin’s Guild does not complete the task, the contracting guild receives a single reduction in the cost of one future contract, administered by reducing the cost Multiplier of said contract by one. If a party does not fulfill its contract obligations (by not paying the Assassin's Guild the agreed upon amount), they are subject to full persecution by the Assassin's Guild. The Price GuideThe Assassin’s Guild requires payment for its services. The cost of this payment will vary depending on the difficulty of the agreed upon task. Following is a guide for the pricing of assignments. Assignments are classified into three distinct groups. Each group has a corresponding Base Price and a set of possible Mulitpliers. To find the cost of a potential task, multiply the Base Cost by the total Multipliers. A task always costs at least as much as the Base Price, regardless of Mulitipliers.Espionage:Base Cost: 5,000 gp Multipliers: +1 per article of information contracted for, if information is specific +1 per 2 months of assignment, if assignment is on-going +1 per 3 members below 10 assigned guild has +1 per 5 ranks of Sense Motive assigned guild's Guild Master hasSabotage:Base Cost: 7,500 gp Multipliers:+1 per target item, holding, etc. if target(s) are specific +1 per month of assignment, if assignment is on going +1 per 3 members above 3 assigned guild has +1 per 5 ranks of Spot/Listen (whichever is higher) target guild's Guildmaster has +1 if target item, holding, etc. is protected from dimensional travelAssassination:Base Cost: 10,000 gp Mulitipliers: +1 per 2 levels of the target above 13 +1 per 5 ranks of Spot/Listen (whichever is higher) target has +1 per 5 points of Fortitude Save bonus beyond +5 target has. +1 per 5 points of Will Save bonus beyond +5 target has. +1 if target is protected from dimensional travel +3 if target is immune to critical hitsContracting an AssassinTo contract an assassin for the performance of a task, an individual (acting on his own or representing a guild) must contact the Guildmaster of the Assassin's Guild in a private communication detailing the nature of the proposed contract. The Guildmaster will then respond to the contracting individual in a similarly private communication, detailing the price of the contract. If the contracting affirms the contract through a final communication, the Guildmaster will then dispatch an assassin of his choosing to perform the contracted task. A party may request a specific assassin whose work they know, but this increases the price of the contract. Because the name of the assassin performing a task is never given to the contracting party, they must describe any taks that the specific assassin has done to contract for that assassin. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~--~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- |

| Dyne01-29-05, 09:53 AM | :bump: We need to discuss the Forest Bard's spell list. For starters, I think the Summon Monster spells should be replaced with Summon Nature's ally spells. Also, I had an idea to make the Forest Bard more specialized. When beginning the class, a Forest Bard must choose a climate that he specializes in. These might include Mountains/Earth, Water, and Air for starters. Might also put in Vermin and Animals, if all the animal spells aren't put into the regular list anyway. |

| Aramar the Black01-31-05, 09:32 PM | As to the Forest Bard; Climates: An interesting idea. (You know, like I might have said before, this optional path class format could get really crazy). How about Mountian, Verdent, Aquatic, Air, Tundra, Earth, and maybe Hills. And baerdith, on your Forest Bard; why all the bonus languages? |
| baerdith02-01-05, 08:34 PM | And baerdith, on your Forest Bard; why all the bonus languages? Bards have a natural affinity for learning languages, look at the 1e Bard every other level they can learn a new language, so I carried it over. If I didn't say it, they all have to be 'woodland' languages (i.e. Faerie, Centaur, Nymph, 'animal' etc.) |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart02-01-05, 09:21 PM | I gotta say Ara - I strongly disagree with the climate idea. Heres why: I've always seen the regular bard one who travels great distances all over. I see this new forest bard as one who travels even more, being more comfortable in the wilderness and being able to explore every step of the way. Cities differ slighty here and there but nature can differ greatly and its alot easier to find something strange and unique in all the open world, then in a few closed citys. Just my opinion, -Frosty |

Cities differ slighty here and there but nature can differ greatly and its alot easier to find something strange and unique in all the open world, then in a few closed citys. Just my opinion, -Frosty The whole purpose of it was mainly just an excuse to give the Forest Bard a few more abilities. Otherwise, either the spell list wouldn't change much or it would be unbalanced from adding too many new spells to it. To me at least, most of the regular Bard spells work fine for the Forest Bard as well, so it's pointless to add them. And Baerdith, forests actually exist in many climates. There are rain forests around the equator, pine forests at the northern latitudes, forests atop high mountains, etc. Forests don't exist in EVERY climate, but it was just an idea to make the class able to be more specialized. Perhaps one Forest Bard is from a forest in the valley between two mountains where it is windy. So, he might have a few elemental air abilities. One forest might exist in a very wet environment, or even a swamp. A Forest Bard from here might specialize more in elemental water. One Forest Bard might live atop a mountain of both trees and stone. He might have some elemental earth abilities. A Forest Bard could be from a pine forest up north. Perhaps he has some cold abilities. Etc. Perhaps "climate" was a bad way to describe it. |

| baerdith02-07-05, 10:26 PM | And Baerdith, forests actually exist in many climates. I'll buy that, however are there Druids for different climates? As far as the spell list the Bard is so restricted to spells anyway, it isn't unbalancing to add spells. Heck you could give the bard every spell in the book and it would barely unbalance the class because even with the modifications made to the spells known number the average bard will still only know about 6-9 spells per level - ever (barring multiple uses of Extra Spell of course but burning feats....) |

For fear that if you do anything else, the carnage will only be expanded? You and I have the same goal in this endeavor, friend -- to protect the innocent. Then, let us do so, I implore you! Let's do as you say, and protect the innocent, using whatever means we have... I say, issue an ultimatum to both sides in this coming conflict: whomesoever inflicts damage upon innocent life will earn the ire of our might! Let them fight their battles, but let them do it where our wards will not be harmed! Else, tehy risk losing this battle! "When a great ball of fire is about to explode, do not foolishly rush out a try to stop, wasting life in the process, but rather come into your homes, seal and watch the doors, until the destrution has gone by in the outer world. Then, with the others like you, go out and patietly restore the damage." "And would you say to my reason that peace talks or agression must be the way, then remember that this fireball is asensitive one. Getting close or talking will set it off, and with luck you may only be singed. Rushing only hurts you the more." And with that, the elf once again closed his eyesThe rush is only foolish if you cannot stop the explosion. With enough haste, I believe we could stop it before it inflicts any carnage. To simply hide in your house, waiting for the explosion to come and pass, achieves nothing. For now your house is gone. What then? Rebuild? And when the next fire sweeps through? And the next? Eventually, you'll be an old man, still rebuilding your home. Or, you could try to stop the fire at its source. We're left with a choice then: die as old men who've spent their life rebuilding, or die trying to break free of that cycle -- either way we end up dead. We may as well strive for something good. |

A little old man with absurdly long silvery-white eyebrows and a bristling white beard steps out from behind a tree, nonchalantly smoking a long-stemmed dragon-bone pipe. He takes the pipe out of his mouth and taps it against his hand, causing hot sparks and tobacco to jump out into the leaves and underbrush where it starts burning. A nearby ground squirrel squeaks with fright and scampers into the shelter of a nearby bush. "Fire," he says as it begins to spread, "has a way of spreading and engulfing all within its path." At this point the bush bursts fully into flame causing a ground squirrel to come scampering out chattering fitfully. The old man gestures at the fleeing critter, "it may even engulf your home unless you do something about it." Having made his point, the old man douses the fire with a wave of his hand. He then takes a puff on his pipe and blows smoke out over the singed area which restores the underbrush. Finally he leans over and chatters something at the ground squirrel and tosses it a golden nut, which it takes before it scampers off. |

Let them fight their battles, but let them do it where our wards will not be harmed! Else, tehy risk losing this battle! I know already that the conflict is unstoppable, but I will not sit idly. Instead, I will try to evacuate as many as I can into the Children of the Plane's safe zone, our dimension, via massive numbers of portals that appear beneath them. When the carnage is gone, I would return them to where they were, and tell them of what happened before hand. What James proposes is to basically make a third army, amass troops, and make this a three way fight, losing more lives to both the Skygge and the half elves, and then more peasants and so called innocents will be trapped in an ever-expanding crossfire. How would that save lives? It would prolong the war, and give both sides a new enemy, or worse, bring in even more armies, making this into an inescapable ring of death, with armies all around and the noncombatants trapped in a slowly shrinking circle of death. He has not thought this through, he has not considered the possibilities, but he has decided hot headedly to charge in and try to force his will upon two factions of unknown power, without suggesting a plan to get those he wants to save out of the way. Consider this, for a minute. Also, you misunderstood Aramar's statement. You cannot stop this, by trying to step in front of it. You just give it another life, and it continues on. |
| Dyne02-10-05, 09:20 PM | "Do not fight against me, Demonfey, and I shall call you an ally. You misunderstand my plan. I do not blame you, since I play the game of war in a different way than most people. My plan is to take the armies that have already been amassed for defense, and expand them. Any who seek to defend their lands are welcome in this alliance. We cannot let these two forces just destroy this land, and their homes and lives with it." "The whole purpose of this third army is first to bring the fight away from those who cannot defend themselves. It is also to smash the enemy. The enemy is not all that powerful, they can be beat. Especially while they are distracted fighting amongst themselves." "I will take up arms against the enemy. If you would evacuate the lands, it would be most appreciated." "I have no intention of prolonging the war. I have no doubt that each side will fight until one or the other is utterly destroyed. Then what remains of the other will ravage the land. It is completely ridiculous to just let this happen." Dyne the Wizard suddenly appears. He wears robes of white and leans on a white staff. His hair, old and white, hangs down to his shoulders. He has an air of great intelligence and wisdom about him. "I'm ashamed of you, Aramar. I'm certain that a magician of such power as yourself is completely capable of simply extinguishing the fireball, instead of letting it burn down your home." He then laughs heartily, and you are put at ease. "It's good to see you all. Although James sometimes rushes into things, he always has a good cause and a stout heart, and even the most foolish of his endeavors are thought-out and planned. I would not doubt his cause, never in the world." "So it seems that the Half-Elves and the Guild of Evil are once again at each other's throats. James is right in that all-out war between them will affect us all, and there are things that must be done. But, these things include those that neither of you have suggested so far. I will do what I can in this affair. I trust that James will raise a comparable defensive force if needed, and that Crowley will be of great help in getting innocents out of the way. What efforts you can give to this will be most appreciated." |

Your plan is similar to what the yugoloths try in the Blood War, and it just means that the forces divide and begin killing everything in sight that isn't like them. Trust me on this when I say that this could cost more lives than you think. You also forget that, if your plan backfires, then there are two armies united in their thirst for your blood, and in any case, how can you be sure that a third army would even make either one of them withdraw? The best plan would just be to suggest having them fight far from civilization. Make them believe that it's their ideas, and they will do everything to make sure that it happens. |
| Dyne02-10-05, 11:58 PM | "Two armies united? What madness has claimed you and forced that insane thought into your head that the Half-Elven Foundation and the Guild of Ultimate Evil would ever unite?" "Why are you fighting against me, Crowley? We are seeking the same goal. No matter what plan is chosen, there is always a chance of having it backfire. This is why we must try to cover ALL loose ends, rather than just one or a few. Of course we would want them to take their differences to another land far from here. But there's nothing we can do to force them to take this course of action." "I have lived for more than 300 years. I've seen my share of wars, and I've done what I could to prevent them and protect others from their carnage. Such is my specialty: to gather knowledge and to use that knowledge to better protect others. I do not know the exact number of years that James has served in this existence, but I do not doubt that he may be much older than either of us." "We can try forcing this conflict to another land. But, there would still be no guarantee that conflict would terrify this land. I do not doubt that the Half-Elves and the Guild of Evil will be the only ones involved in this conflict. Their allies will come to their aid just as before, and this world will be engulfed in another World War. If this happens again, we must do what we can to put a stop to it." |

We seek the same goal, of course, but I have fought for the last 20,000 years for my life. 10,000 years of that was in the Blood Wars, serving as a mercenary for the devils. I have seen more battles than I have years, and have seen unlikely alliances as well, due to a blow placed so that both sides become so spiteful of one thing that they actually work together to destroy it. Your plan to lure them away from the city would attempt to do just that, if you think about it. Your goal is to draw them out of the city, and to make them fight your army, where they might just ignore you if you just muster your strength. Your plan would require getting their attentions, and the only real way an army can do that effectively is to attack both sides. Think about that, if only for a minute. What I meant when I suggested a different land would be to create a demiplane just for combat, and instead of armies in the streets, there will be smaller bands. It is not perfect, but it would be better than an alternative, for sure. |

It is not perfect, but it would be better than an alternative, for sure. And if our plan is not to lure them away from the cities, but to keep them out? When being pursued through the frostfell, the best tactic to lose your enemies is to make them lose their will to chase you. Travel to the highest peaks, where there is no food for them to eat, where they cannot stand the cold, and where they risk death through a single slip of the hand. These are problems I never faced, but were very real to them. Simply put, it was no longer worth it for them to chase me. I believe a similar tactic here would be best suited -- make it so costly for them to harm the innocent, that to do so would mean losing their war. Then, will they attack the city? No, of course not. If this is to be a war of attrition, then let us use that to our advantage. If they choose to harm the innocent, then let the consequences be known: the hammer will fall swiftly and brutally, crushing any chance the offenders have of winning their war. |

Here, Crowley, is my proposal. Form a defense pact, to protect the population centers... the cities, the populous forests, wherever innocents are gathered. Then, designate areas where they aren't gathered. Places where armies can fight and no one but the armies get hurt. We then send this information to the two opposing sides. Inform them of the territories we intend to protect, and of the territories where we feel they could fight without causing much harm. Inform them that we do not want to fight. But, should they cause harm to innocents by fighting in those territories under our protection, we will retaliate with all the force that we can muster in that territory only. Make it so costly for them to fight in the cities that they dare not do so, for fear of losing the war. If violence comes to those places under our protection, we of course evacuate the innocents as our first priority. What say you, Crowley?" |

I do not wish someone else to. Your plan seems violent and somewhat unnessacary. We should not talk of crushing and smasing people. Let that kind of talk stay in places such as the kitchen, where the victims are the herbs and corns. I am here to be depended on, like a mighty stone. The question is, is whether you chose to depend on me or not. I am only one stone, and sit in only one place. Where you lean becuse of your intentions is up to you. |

Also, that plan could drive the half elves to taking what they can from the land and the people to support themselves. Your plan would fan the flames of destruction and war. You can't cut them off from their supplies, for there are supplies all around us. |

| Kingside_Bishop02-15-05, 10:42 AM | I'd have no problem with it. You may want to talk to Orcy, who has an arena up there, before you do make your home, though. Just to find out things like how far away you should be to avoid things like teeth clattering on your roof, and whatnot.Thank you, friend. We intend to explore the region at once, to find a suitable location. Thank you again, you cannot know how much it means to me to be accepted here... Here's a picture of Orpheus (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Kingside_Bishop/OrpheusPicture.jpg), if you're interested. |
| Aramar the Black02-15-05, 09:09 PM | Looking after the departing James, the elf looks down toward his lad and speaks softly to himself, playing with a small twig. "It is a shame. That he should be so uncaring towards the lives of the poeples. But he is interesting. A condridictory person, sometimes. He says that no one is as solid as stone, and yet he wishes us to unite together to fight off this coming war. With the number of us here, mustn't we each be at least as stong and loyal as stone? perhaps he means us to be the strength of steel at the end of our blade. But those who live by the sword, die by the sword. And we should be of nature. Dependable as stone, strong as adimantine. Immovible as a mountain. I hope we do not lose him. I would hate to lose any of the members here. Perhaps this conflict may be educational to more than the two warring groups." |

| Lady Rolindin02-15-05, 11:02 PM | Have you thought about using spells to proctect the area's you don't want them to fight in, there is a spell I know that can limit everone except a god or if you make an ruin rock to by pass the sphere. We would not need any rocks dont make them, just lock the people inside the sphere. the elves nor the Droga men could by pass the sphere, they would be blocked it a 10 level spell. The one My dwarf mage is going to use on the floating city, with out the glyph rocks no way in. It could be arranged, if you want this to happen! let me know |
| Cazic02-16-05, 12:17 AM | Cazic----------------- "I heard this was the place to go if you did not support the war. What can I do?" Siren-------------------- "I got your note Crowley we have come. Hello Master Cazic." She then bows to both Crowley and Cazic. |

We just might have to use it. |
| Dyne02-16-05, 10:19 AM | Lady Rolindin, I'm sorry, but I don't see how you could possibly cast such a spell. If you can even cast 9th-level spells, then you are breaking the rules because we are only 15th-level. This would be a good idea, but it is totally impossible. Please don't try to bring super powerful NPC's into the game, for that will threaten to crash the IFWG again. |
| Demonfey02-16-05, 03:42 PM | Cazic----------------- "I heard this was the place to go if you did not support the war. What can I do?" Siren-------------------- "I got your note Crowley we have come. Hello Master Cazic." She then bows to both Crowley and Cazic. @Cazic: Greetings, Cazic. These two {gestures at the half frost giant and the celestial eagle still here} are Orpheus and his wife. He is the one with the plan, and he is the one to talk to. @Lady Rolindin: I need time to learn and adapt the spell to my own use, but I believe that I could probably manage casting this spell of yours. @Siren: Greetings, Siren. I have a few matters left to take care of, and I have one of my dragon friends looking for the valley of mist. When he returns, we can depart for it. He'll return after the meeting. Anyone here feel like helping reunite a mother and daughter and spill some blood that will not count for or against them later in the actual game? |
| Dyne02-16-05, 03:53 PM | I could use my Assassin character for that, though he hasn't been approved yet (don't know if that really matters to you, since you said "doesn't count for or against"). He has levels in Ranger, so he's kinda the woodsy type. He might join if he sees any profit in it. |
| Lady Rolindin02-16-05, 04:07 PM | demonfey, and if the floating city was already made my dwarf mage would open up a mythallar teleportation portal and let the npc's go the coa to get away from the fighting. Archmages take a long time to do things here it's seems, If she was by her self the floating city woul d already be floating and the buildings would have started being built. maybe I should just go ahead and start making the floating city and make the mythallar, a place to hide for the npc's then. |
| Kingside_Bishop02-16-05, 04:36 PM | [I]@Cazic: Greetings, Cazic. These two {gestures at the cloud giant and the celestial eagle still here} are Orpheus and his wife. He is the one with the plan, and he is the one to talk to.Ahem... Half frost-giant, raised by cloud giants. :D |

Or would it be "oh goody"? Well, at least I could describe how my guy kicks butt with weapons that he doesn't actually own. ;) |
| Cazic02-18-05, 10:02 PM | Oh dang. Or would it be "oh goody"? Well, at least I could describe how my guy kicks butt with weapons that he doesn't actually own. ;) yes this is true and it brings up a question. Siren has her family lute. It is a magical lute that carves itself, but other than that is a normal lute. will Siren have to put some of her 200,000 equiment gold toward owning something that has been in her family for generation or does she get it for free since all it does is carve a story on itself? |
| grimclaw02-19-05, 12:22 AM | personally I think flavor items shouldnt count toward the 200,000 limit as long as they dont effect gameplay. |
| Cazic02-19-05, 02:15 PM | personally I think flavor items shouldnt count toward the 200,000 limit as long as they dont effect gameplay. I agree. |
| Dyne02-19-05, 02:53 PM | You would pay the cost of whatever a masterwork lute would cost. All that gold doesn't just represent gold earned through adventuring and the like, it takes into account gifts, heirlooms, and anything else your character might've picked up through whatever means. |

When I finish making Sirens template I will be sure to keep that in mind. What would a Masterwork Lute cost? |
| Dyne02-19-05, 04:36 PM | 100 gp for a masterwork instrument. And it gives you a +2 circumstance bonus on Perform checks with it. |
| Cazic02-19-05, 05:13 PM | thank you and i am guessing the price wont change because of the self-carve? |
| Dyne02-19-05, 05:39 PM | I would think that it wouldn't. It's just flavor, afterall. |
| Cazic02-20-05, 12:35 AM | Very true. :D |
| Dyne02-21-05, 01:36 AM | Who is still an active member here, if any? For those of you that might still be around, do you want to participate in the IFWG as a foundation? |
| Aramar the Black02-21-05, 01:04 PM | I'm still here. As for participation in the IFWG, I don't really care if we do or not. it certain ly adds an intesting topic. plotline to this foundation, as seen on the previos pages, but then, working "independently" on the magic of the forest would just as good. |
| Dyne02-21-05, 02:41 PM | I'd like to have this foundation participate in the IFWG. But if there aren't enough people for it to thrive as a foundation, then what's the point, really? I hear that we're only going to be allowed 3 PC's at most in the IFWG. I'm members/founders of way more than 3 foundations that are so different from one another that it would be impossible to have 3 characters that covered all the bases. If this foundation is active enough, though, I'll certainly have a character for it. |
| Lady Rolindin02-21-05, 04:23 PM | This depends on you as a indivual character, if they choose to pertake in the war or not, I would like to bring in a wizard/ ranger to be in this foundation. she would not want to be part of the war but help they ones who are escaping from the forces. she would defend herslf from any of those forces if they attack her in this area. I don't know if we should involue our self in the war but help the twn folks to escape if they need to escape here and put them up in houses and our homes till they crazes stop killing each other. She would want to help the ones escape if that is called for and hide them from the war seekers. The one's who crave war and seek it out. ranger /wizard from the dragon magizine, nice class mix. |
| Kingside_Bishop02-21-05, 04:46 PM | I think I'd like to have Orpheus join this foundation -- arctic forests are his kind of place, and everyone here seems to be of a similar mind to him. Orpheus, and his warhammer of frosty doom, are in. |
| Demonfey02-21-05, 05:08 PM | Sounds good to me... |
| baerdith02-21-05, 08:45 PM | Who is still an active member here, if any? For those of you that might still be around, do you want to participate in the IFWG as a foundation? I'm here, but I stopped posting when it looked like the war thing was taking over. Personally I don't like the whole war thing, but I guess that is just me. :( |

Personally I don't like the whole war thing, but I guess that is just me. :( None of us like this war. That is why we are hee trying to help the innoccent. We tried to stop the war, but none would listen. |
| Dyne02-21-05, 10:58 PM | This has nothing to do with any kind of war, it's the whole game. I originally intended on having a Young Green Dragon character for this foundation, but that was before the rumor of the bastardly three-character-limit. It looks like there are plenty of people here, so I'll see what I can do. (There went my plot to take over the world  ) |
| Valarian's Beloved02-22-05, 11:48 AM | The elven maiden lowers her head and confers privately with her other personalities. Though I would much rather stand and be counted among my brethen, I must decline at this time." Verlansia leans back against the trunk of the tree and considers the present situation thoughfully. |
| Tenzhi02-22-05, 01:25 PM | Even if this foundation were involved in the IFGW, you could be part of the foundation and not be part of the IFGW. You could even make IC posts with a character who isn't part of the IFGW here. |
| Dyne02-22-05, 11:08 PM | My character could just be a permament illusion that looks like a green dragon. Hmm.... |

Sorry. :( I don't like the idea for of a leader for the Forest Foundation. I understand it will have its drawbacks but I always invisioned this foundation as union of forest-dwelling people who put there differences aside while defending the forest. Such as my Half-Elven Ranger wouldn't much enjoy being associate with lets say a nasty green dragon who has a habbit of killing trespassing humans but would gladly accept the dragons help when a human army tires to take over the woods. Just my 2cents -Frosty |

I did take the landlord feat to make a house or two in the tree tops. a nice city in the tree tops sounds good too me. |
| Dyne03-06-05, 07:26 PM | And WHY would we want to be active in some war? No war. The "Guild Wars" was a term given to the game when it was first thought up, since it was originally intended as a war game. The official name of the game, however, was the Inter-Foundation War Games. Now, however, the name has been changed to the Inter-Foundation Games, for political reasons. The game doesn't focus as much on war anymore, so the old name didn't fit. Basically, Baerdith, it's the same as the last IFWG, except hopefully with less war-mongering. |

We could have a little tree-top village like the Ewoks in Star Wars. Some of the other people wouldn't really need much of houses, though, at least I would think. I couldn't picture many druids with massive mansions in the forests. |

Were more of an alliance from my point of view. An alliance of forest dwellers. While we may have some sort of central and neutral meeting place we should each have our own style of living. Druidic groves and Robin Hoodesq treecitys can live along cave-dwelling outlaws and semi-nomatic forest halflings. If you don't have your own method of survival and thus housing, you really shouldn't be in this alliance should you? -Frosty |

If you don't have your own method of survival and thus housing, you really shouldn't be in this alliance should you? -Frosty I don't know what you meant by the last sentence, but you are right in a way about us being an alliance. But, we're a stronger alliance than that. We are a guild, afterall, not just a bunch of bums who happen to live in a very large forest. |
| Lady Rolindin03-06-05, 08:19 PM | Frostbite_Ravenheart, dyne and the rest what ever housing system you decide to live in thta fine. I suppose that all of us has our own area then. it would make sence to me, I like the tree tops and not hurt the trees, build around them. if any one wants to live in this kind of area then you can live in the same area or if you choose to make a tree top city in your area. it would be nice to be able to evacute the city people and know they have places to stay. a few extra houses to stay in, and all the lower npcs livng in the small city or small village. and I am feeling down about somebody, so we can all have our own area's then i guess it sounds like it. We meet here, is there a horn blown for a meeting or a signal of some kind. |
| Demonfey03-06-05, 08:22 PM | Frosty meant in his last sentence that, if you don't have the means to live in a forest, why would you do so in the first place? |
| Lady Rolindin03-06-05, 08:25 PM | I understand and I believe my ranger/wizard does have the skills to live in this or any forest. she is from this forest. |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart03-06-05, 08:57 PM | Thank you DemonFey, thats exactly what I ment. As for making safe haven for the city folk to retreat too...we must try and decide wisely about that. Do we really wish to have to expend many of our resources trying to protect them from the dangers of the wood and whatever made them retreat in the first place? Do we want to spend time and money building a forest fortress that we may never use? Do we want a bunch of ignorant city-folk cutting our trees and disgracing the animal habitats? Now, I'm not saying I'm totally against it but I am saying we must think about it and decide, at least if you want help from this alliance as a whole. -Frosty |
| Dyne03-06-05, 09:04 PM | This place is supposed to be a haven. We have very strict rules (although they be unwritten) against acts of violence within our grounds and against cutting down our trees. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to welcome people to this place as long as they didn't damage the forest. If they tried to cut down our trees, we would take them out. |
| Demonfey03-06-05, 09:24 PM | May I offer a different solution? The demiplane base of the Children of the Planes could be used, if you brought this up with necrodude. I am willing to vouch for it, and to offer protection, but I am the vice head. If you want, I will run it by him and find out what he thinks. |
| Lady Rolindin03-06-05, 10:26 PM | This is what I mean, I know that this is a procted place, no trees will be cut down unnessary. no tree will be cut down that is alive. trees that have fallen alreadywill be used to make the city for my section. I only ofered to put some of them up if they need a place to hide. I'm trying to help. my character is a half elf and respects the forest. she would never cut down a tree to make the tree top houses. she would use use fallen trees, frosty plase understand me. I'm just offererd to help put some of the city people up if they need the help. I would like to add that if you take alook at spels known, she has no fire spells. I did this on purpose, because i believe that a wiz/ran would not want to burn down her home. it does make it hard to build a tree top house not to cut down trees, but it's better than destroying the forest. my character likes the forest its her home, and likes the ideal of living with the trees, it makes her feel part of the forest. I'm not trying to get the city people to come and cut down the forest to make room for them. just use the fallen trees to make a home for her and her npc's to live in and if the city people need a place to stay then some can stay. they will not be allowed to cut down trees or anything that will harm the forest. the ideal of taking them to the plane is a good ideal. |

| Demonfey03-07-05, 12:10 AM | {Crowley goes still for a minute, and then smiles. He looks at you all.} Kayne has decided to allow our demiplane to be used as a haven for the masses. As the vice head of the Children of the Planes, I would like to offer you all haven with us, and even an alliance. We are prepared to house and help the masses already. Of course, we can only offer relative protection, because there is always the possibility that we could be attacked. Do you accept? |
| necrodude1603-07-05, 12:14 AM | A tall middlea aged Fey'ri enters and approaches the gathering. I am Kayne Shadowborne, Head of the Children of The Planes. My second in charge told me of this situatuion and i am willing to offer an allience between our guilds as well as the use of our plane. We will offer protection to you if you are willing to forge an alliance with us. His voice rolls smoothly out of his mouth as he stands before the Forest Dwellers. | Demonfey03-07-05, 08:14 PM | And what do the Children of the Planes want from us? We ask you that we can call upon you if we are in need of aid, as we will come to yours if need be. It is all we ask of our allies. Oh, and try to be open minded. I say this simply because, as the outcasts of society and nature itself, we know that many who say that they are open to anything tend to be less than open minded if a person has horns and bat wings. |

| Demonfey03-07-05, 09:30 PM | Crowley my Friend I believe that we should go. One never knows what lay ahead so i think we should go while there is still light to this day. Of course. I forget that you need to do things like sleep at night. |

You live for 19,500+ years without having to worry about sleeping and you can then talk to me about that. I only sleep at all because it is quiet and peaceful. Now, would you prefer to walk or to fly there? |

Siren------ "How did you know of our journey young one? We never told you?" Kath--------- "Ummm. HEY! Is that my mother I hear? Better get going. Bye!" Kath then begin a speedy fly toward the window. |

I was just told by a fellow Cleric about this quest of yours and I later met a high ranking member of my order who told me it was the will of Hlal to go with you all, but not to speak of the incounters unless asked how I know about you two." "[Bear speach/]*DARN YOUR FIREPLACE!*[Bear Speach/] I am going to have a headack for a WEEK!" Kath then paces the room a bit thinking to himself. "Alright he doesn't like people talking about him when he isn't around. Some superstition of theirs. Something about bad luck with swords and the moon or something, but the high ranking Cleric I met is a member of The Cresent Moon and Sword." OOC: If you dont remember They are the people who imprisoned Siren's parents and their base is somewhere on the moon. Also yes I did forget you could read minds DF. :D |

| Dyne03-09-05, 12:20 AM | This is what I mean, I know that this is a procted place, no trees will be cut down unnessary. no tree will be cut down that is alive. trees that have fallen alreadywill be used to make the city for my section. *Hears "Half-Elf" and cringes* The last Half-Elf I met was unashamed of killing both Humans and Elves. :nonono: Also, it was my intention (or rather my idea (or perception)) that the Forest Dwellers Foundation was based in the middle of the Great Forest, which is a very large forest outside of the City of Tyranor. *Realizes that the post he is responding to is from the last page* Wait, where am I? *Looks around* *Points to a squirrel* I don't know you. *The squirrel scampers off in fear, a small nut in its mouth* Hey, come back here with that! *Chases after it* |

Law and Chaos are nothing to me. Good and Evil are the only relevent alignments, and they are more in acts than in people. |
| Tenzhi03-11-05, 12:14 AM | Law and Chaos are nothing to me. Good and Evil are the only relevent alignments, and they are more in acts than in people. Personally, I consider Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos to be relatively non-existant. Good and Evil are just subjective measures of morality which is itself a personal illusion, while Law and Chaos are a measure of perceptual understanding. |
| Dyne03-11-05, 12:45 AM | Personally, I consider Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos to be relatively non-existant. Good and Evil are just subjective measures of morality which is itself a personal illusion, while Law and Chaos are a measure of perceptual understanding. Call it what you want. Applying words to something doesn't change what it is. Some would say that Good and Evil are beyond the description of words. I believe that people believe only what they want to. I believe in Good and Evil not only because it gives what I deem a reasonable explanation of things, but the idea of Good gives me hope. Some people would not believe in Good and Evil because they do not want to be tied down by their boundaries, and they would rather do what they want to without being labeled. Others probably disagree for the sake of disagreeing (idiots). It does not matter to me. Believe what you will as long as it does not cause you to act in an unfavorable way toward me or those close to me. I sense another philosophical discussion coming on. I have a tendency of getting involved in those (more like a part in starting them). |
| Tenzhi03-11-05, 01:11 AM | Call it what you want. Applying words to something doesn't change what it is. Words are not meant to change what is there, they are meant to describe it in terms that may be readily understood. Such is the basis of communication. Some would say that Good and Evil are beyond the description of words. And those people are inherently hypocrites. I believe that people believe only what they want to. Well, if that's what you want to believe... :P I believe in Good and Evil not only because it gives what I deem a reasonable explanation of things, but the idea of Good gives me hope. Some people would not believe in Good and Evil because they do not want to be tied down by their boundaries, and they would rather do what they want to without being labeled. Others probably disagree for the sake of disagreeing (idiots). My opinion varies depending upon my point of view that week. Some weeks my point of view is more of a personal level, and other weeks it seems to be a macroscopic vantage point on the universe. In the previous sense, Good and Evil seem indefinable except by subjective, biassed standards - which precludes a universal notion of either good or evil, instead relegating them to selfish wants and needs or social/cultural mores. In the latter sense, it seems that there is always an inherent order to the Universe that we can't always see - since morality seems to exist (notice that even this view acknowledges that morality may be an illusion) from a sentient viewpoint it follows that there must be a Universal notion of Good and Evil though we are only able to guess at the particulars. In all cases, however, Law and Chaos are figments of the mind. There are always patterns, though we may not be cognizant enough to follow them. Ergo Chaos does not truly exist and therefore neither does Law. |
| Demonfey03-11-05, 03:14 PM | Personally, I consider Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos to be relatively non-existant. Good and Evil are just subjective measures of morality which is itself a personal illusion, while Law and Chaos are a measure of perceptual understanding. That's how I play, personally, except in this case, the law/chaos axis is a sort of sanity meter, sane being lawful, insane being chaotic. |

| Demonfey03-12-05, 02:31 AM | So Demonfey - What would normally be the heroic, law-breaking CG "Robin Hood" outlaw-like Ranger in DND would translate into a LG character in your game beacuse hes very sane, reasonable and organized? Not that I disaprove, I'm just curious. I personally believe that alignments are just a croutch and I do not play with them as a DM and rarely fill one out on my character sheet unless my DM is absolutly adamite about it. -Frosty First off, I have been told that I can never DM again after a fiasco involving the Lord of the Iron Fortress campaign...I shouldn't have allowed the war hulk to be a character...anyway, my view is that something that has little sanity tends to be very chaotic, although in your example the actions would also impact on his alignment. Basically, my view is that you have to take in sanity, personality (malignant or benign), and actions to make the alignment, and that the alignment would probably be altered by the views of others towards the subject. Robin Hood, for example, would be CG because of his actions (giving to poor), general disposition, and the fact that he gives money to other people. Most of the players I am working in a campaign with would keep the money, and three are good. |
| Tenzhi03-12-05, 02:37 AM | Robin Hood, for example, would be CG because of his actions (giving to poor), general disposition, and the fact that he gives money to other people. I submit that the redistribution of wealth as a matter of balancing social divisions of wealth (rich:poor) is the act of a neutral persona, rather than a chaotic. |
| Dyne03-12-05, 03:17 AM | I submit that the redistribution of wealth as a matter of balancing social divisions of wealth (rich:poor) is the act of a neutral persona, rather than a chaotic. I wouldn't call the act itself anything. If Robin Hood was doing it to help out people with a rough time, I would call it Good because, at least in the Book of Exalted Deeds, Good is defined as doing something to help others, especially if there is some personal sacrifice for you involved. Of course, if Robin Hood was doing it to fund an army to attack the nobility so that he could conquer the world, then that's something different. |
| Tenzhi03-12-05, 03:20 AM | I wouldn't call the act itself anything. But you don't think in terms of Law/Chaos, either. ;) If Robin Hood was doing it to help out people with a rough time, I would call it Good because, at least in the Book of Exalted Deeds, Good is defined as doing something to help others, especially if there is some personal sacrifice for you involved. That's a whole 'nother can of worms revolving around ends vs. means. I think we delved into it in one of the alignment threads. |
| Dyne03-12-05, 03:22 AM | Actually, I was referring more to the Good vs. Evil part, which wasn't even being argued, but meh. It's more of an intentions thing than the ends or the means. If Robin Hood intended to do something evil but something good came out of it, he was still committing evil. |
| Tenzhi03-12-05, 03:38 AM | It's more of an intentions thing than the ends or the means. If Robin Hood intended to do something evil but something good came out of it, he was still committing evil. Yar, that's what I meant. A matter of what ends are achieved versus what he means to do. ;) |
| Dyne03-12-05, 03:40 AM | I thought by means you meant by what means he accomplishes it. |
| Tenzhi03-12-05, 03:44 AM | I thought by means you meant by what means he accomplishes it. Yar. I should've clarified it from the first. I didn't mean to confuse you. Or perhaps I did. I can never be sure. :P |
| Dyne03-13-05, 06:52 PM | You're confusing. |
| Sssargoth03-13-05, 10:08 PM | Lupin by Mike McArtor Dragon 325 November 2004 Lupins exist at the crux of a duality, torn constantly between two mythological beginings. Most of these dog-headed humanoids rarely ponder the subject, living their lives in the comfort of their individual families, saving such speculation for the quiet times of their inferm years. However, nonlupin sages and historians (with lupin input) frequently consider and debate this issue. Although most people consider the debate purely academic, lupin spiritual leaders actively argue two versions of their creation. The origional and most popular creation story comes down from their ancient oral tradition, marking lupins as decendants of werewolves who rejected the chaos of their monthly murderous sprees. Proponents of this theory point to the uncanny ability of lupins to sniff out werewolves as well as the obveous physical similarities. The newer origin theory, origionally proposed by the lupin sage Hector Roff, argues that the fanatic enmity between lycanthropes ad lupins comes from stresses placed upon lupins by other races. Followers of his theory, called Hectorites, propose that their race came from a union of humans and gnolls, and that early lupins became famed werewolf hunters to prove to fearful human neghbors that they indeed were not werewolves themselves. Most lupins consider this theory preposterous, although the younger generations seem to favor this less idealistic belief. Regardless of their origin, lupins have always had a tie to werewoves. The day after a lupin child proves itsself weaned by eating solid foods, the village werewolf hunters, called hruffs, begin teaching it the basics of killing lycanthropes. This day, known as the child's Moonset, is only the first rite of passage for a lupin. At puberty, lupins undergo another rite, called ro'rutoo (for boys) or ro'rutah (for girls). The exact rite varies from tribe to tribe, but it typcally includes spending a night on the grasslands with only a mount as company. Succeeding at this rite makes the young lupin an official member of the tribe, and allows him to venture with an eldar to a White Howl. Once a lupin's muzzel and head hair begin to whiten (a natural change for the race that comes with age) he passes through one final rite composed of fasting and intese meditation. At the conclusion of this rite, the old lupin is recognised as an elder and becomes eligible for the greatest of honors: to represent the tribe in a White Howel. Lupins live in tribes consistig of three to twelve packs, and each pack two to ten adults (and several pups). Lupin tribes practice strict egalitarian democracy and usually operate without a leader (although elders in the tribe can often sway the votes of the younger members). Once per year, the tribe selects a spokesperson among the packs' elders as a representative. This individual cannot hold the post for longer than a year and cannot be selected again until an elder from every other pack in the tribe has acted as spokesperson. The selected elder (and retinue of unwed youths) then travels to a gathering of other spokesperson lupins from nearby tribes. This gathering, the White Howel, acts as both a meeting for important discussions among the elders as well as a chance for youg lupins to find mates from outside the tribe. A White Howel often degenerates into a celebration that lasts for up to three weeks. The lupin's semi-nomadic life centers upon villages composed of wooden longhouses built in a radial pattern surrouding a community space. In the middle of this space, the lupins maintain a continuous flame known as a bg'tyr. Even when the tribe moves from its village to wander the relatively dry plains for the three months of summer, the tribe's bg'tyr continues to burn inside a copper-lined cedar bowl. The task of keeping the bg'tyr lit falls upon a group of lupin girls too young to bear children - one such pup from each pack within the tribe. These girls, known as bg'tyr mates, often grow to prominence within the community in adulthood. Many lupin tribes consider the week of the full moon an important religious time. During the three days when the moon is brightest, hruffs from nearby villages join to form hunting packs known as ah'flir. These ah'flir packs have the specific purpose of hunting down and killing as many werewolves and other lycanthropes as possible. Personality: All lupins consider trust and loyalty the hallmarks of responsible social behavior. They generally work for the wellbeing of their community, wether a tribe, a multiracial druidic circle, or an adventuring group. A lupin always knows his duty, ad he rarely relinquishes it without good cause. Dedicated and patient, lupins excel at tasks that might require long periods of waiting, and as such make exceptional trackers, vintners, and hunters. Lupins enjoy social interactions, and despise being alone. They make friends easily, and they enjoy crowds (although not necessarily at the center of attention). Perhaps because they give their friendship and loyalty so easily, lupins hold strong grudges against those who betray their trust. Many former business partners or adventuring companies have died at the hands of lupins who felt taken advantage of or decieved. Physical Description: Built like humans with the heads of dogs, many creatures mistake lupins for gnolls or werewolves from a distance. A short coat of fur covers a lupin from head to toe, while longer, silkier hair (much like a human's) grow from the top of their heads. A lupin's body fur tends to be monochromatic, ranging from a light grey through all the shades of brown to black, with occasional lupins sporting coats of brick red or golden yellow. Extrordinarily rare white-coated lupins do exist, but few nonlupins ever see them. Many lupins have a lighter shade of their body fur on their muzzle, ears, and around their eyes, while their head hair tends twards slightly darker shades. White muzzle fur and head hair mark lupin elders. Thick leathery skin covers the palms of lupin hands and the soles of their feet, and they usually keep their clawlike fingernails and toenails cut short. Lupins have short, nonprehensile tails that they sometimes have difficulty controling (especially when anxious or excited). Relations: As social and gregarious creatures, lupins get along well with virtually all races. Only gnolls, goblinoids, and werewolves need fear inhospitable treatment from them. Lupins consider dwarves and half-orcs smelly and less desireable as compaions or guests than elves, or halflings. The musky scent of gnomes and humans also often agitate lupins' sensitive noses, but not to the extent that they avoid those races. Regardless, the metal goods that dwarves and gnomes often bring to lupin lands buy such guests lavish accomidations and sincere (if sometimes forced) invitations to return. For their part, dwarves enjoy the steadieness and patience of lupins, while elves favor their gregarious natures and love of wild places. Lupins don't care for cities and prefer settlements no larger than a small town. Alignment: Their strong beliefs in community, loyalty, and trust mark lupins as highly lawful creatures. Generosity and pity for the poor also define the race, but lupins also tend to hold grudges and refuse aid to those who have wronged them in the past. Thus, many lupins are either lawful good or lawful neutral. Only rare exceptions become chaotic or evil. Lupin Lands: Lupins tend to live within thick forests near open grasslands. Some ride fast horses or dire wolves across the steppes to bring down deer, antilope, and elk while others stay nearer their longhouses to fish or pick berries and nuts. Lupins warily watch anyone who enters the lands they consider theirs but usually allow other races to move through their territory unmolested. They actively make war against goblinoids and gnolls who venture too close to the vast swaths of territory they travel. Religion: Like many other races, lupins have a pantheon of godlike beings to who they pay homage. They call their deities Saints, which consist of lupins who achieved immortal greatness. Saint Renard, the chief lupin deity, represents what Palor does to humans. Lupins respect their deities and treat them as firsts among equals, but they neither fear nor worship those in their patheon. They find temples and organized worship fascinating, if a little silly, and rarely give more thought to their deities than a simple thanks whe they bed down for the night. Language: Lupins speak thickly accented common among nonlupin visitors. When among their own kind, they speak Lupin, a visual as well as verbal language consisting of words as well as growls, barks, and subtile shifts of the body. The Lupin language has no "s," as lupins' long muzzles make it difficult for them to create the sound. Many of their words have only one or two syllables, and begin with hard consonants. The language also tends to use the short "o" and short "u" sounds and ends many of its words with a hard 'f.' Names: Lupins usually present their young with two given names combined with a hyphen when written: one name from the father (usually one of his parents' names) and one name from the mother (usually one of her parents' names). Thus, a male pup whose grandfathers are Lab-Crott and Hector-Roff might get the names Hector-Lab or Roff-Cott. The parents usually choose which name comes first based purely on how the two names sound together. Female names make more use of "a" sounds and often end with a vowel or a trailing "n" sound. Male Names: Crott, Hector, Lab, Mattaff, Renard, Roff, Turff. Female Names: Arann, Carra, Fikenn, Loffa, Jakka, Rottie, Warra. Adventurers: Lupins adventure for many of the the same reasons as rangers or druids of any race. They excell as hunters and trackers, and tend to leave their tribes as outcasts or as youths caught in wanderlust. Lupins put aside their fears and desire to stay with their tribe in order to hunt werewolves. In a land or world infested with lycanthropes, lupins stand on the front lines and often wage personal wars against these hated shapeshifters. Lupin Racial Traits Monsterous Humanoid: As monsterous humanoids, lupins are immune to spells like charm person and hold person. Medium: As medium creatures, lupins have no special bonuses or penalties due to size. Lupin base land speed is 30 feet Darkvision: Lupins can see in the dark up to 60 Feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and lupins can function just fine with no light at all. Acute sense of smell: In many ways, a lupin's acute sense of smell works like the scent ability, but without the automatic nature of scent. A lupin's nose allows it to locate and identify certin races and creatures by their smell, and to aid it in tracking. -A lupin automatically gets to attempt a DC 10 Wisdom check to detect a lycanthrope within 30 feet, regardless of what form the creature takes. If the lycanthrope is down-wind, the range at which a lupin can detect it is doubled. If it is upwind, the distance is halved. -A lupin has a better ability to detect and distinguish the scents of creatures than a human. This gives the lupin a +5 racial bonus on Spot checks made to oppose a known individual's Disguise check if the individual comes within 5 feet. -A lupin within 5 feet of an invisible or hidden creature is entitled to a DC20 Wisdom check to pinpoint that creature. -A lupin gets a +2 racial bonus on all Survival checks made to follow tracks. Lupin's can't track by smell alone, but the olfactory clues they find aid their tracking technique. Lupins suffer a -2 penalty on all saving throws against attacks based on odor (such as a stinking cloud spell or a ghast's stench). Expert Rider: Lupins always consider Ride a class skill, and they gain a +2 bonus on all Ride checks. Lupins rely on strong mounts while making their yearly nomadic movements, and even settled lupins purchase a horse as soon as they can. +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against werewolves. As soon as they are weaned, lupins begin learning techniques to fight their ancient foes. +2 bonus on Listen checks: Lupins have a keen sense of hearing. Automatic Languages: Common and Lupin. Bonus Languages: Elven, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Halfling, and Sylvan. Lupins tend to learn the languages of both their enemies and their friends. Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass lupin's ranger class does not count when determinig whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing (see XP for multiclass characters on page 60 of the Player's Handbook). The lupin's keen senses make them natural trackers. Lupin rangers may choose humanoid (shapechanger) as a favored enemy. |

His body wrapped in chain, his limbs hanging down to hsi knees and standing up straight as possible. White and silver fur sprouts from spaces in the arms, and his dark brown eyes gleem from inside his helmet. His body clad in silvery-blue metal, lengths of steel chains arcing from joint to joint. A mess of black chain falls back from his helmet as if a head of hair. The armor is ethed with seals and runes of arcane origin, inbetween which run a mural of vines and leaves honoring his native lands, long since forgotten. "Ah... Somewhere I believe I can call 'Home' once again." He inhaled the smell of the forest deeply. "Quite peaceful, relaxing... And those trees will make a nice resting place... Outlook Not So Good says the Magic 8-ball. @ The Rest of You: Finishing tacking up the last of his tent, adding some finishing touches, a lantern and some bedding. He placed his chain on the branch and placed his hands on it. It grew to colossal proportions, at least 60 ft. long and each link in the chain about a foot in size itself. With a snap of his fingers the chain twisted and squirmed for a second then one end picked him up and, like an enormous metallic snake, slithered it's way along the branches and trunk to the bottom of the Guild Hall. It coiled itself up as it let Oop off it's head, then shrunk down to the size of Oop's leg and slithered up his body and into his hand. He straightened up and then bowed deeply removing his helment revealing a battle-scarred and rough gorrilla face, his skin as black as ebony and his fur silvery gray. "I am Oop, the Haunted One, the Silverback Guardian, master of Chains and Magic. So far as I've seen the only one of my kind, at least the only one of my kind that wields magics as I do anyway." |

Wait wait wait that gives me a GREAT idea. How 'bout instead of spending all that money we keep it, spend it on defences, AND just so that we cover all our bases on this we share a demiplane with someone who we are allies with and have their own plane already. Isn't that a GREAT idea! Now let me think for a second ..... who do we know that is a VERY powerful guild, has several allies that wll be on that demiplane and will share all their power with the others on that plane to make a SUPER guild that would be even more powerfull than the GoPE or HEF and has their own plane. | turalisj03-14-05, 11:28 PM | Possibly. it proably depends on the ritual, and the various components of it. it involves several spells. |
| turalisj03-14-05, 11:31 PM | Ritual? Ritual: To begin this ritual they cast a Magic Circle spell inward around a seed (mostly an Acorn) that has been prepared by being soaked in a special alchemical solution for a week (this solution is easily made by the Planescaper, but may be included with a price or a quest in order to further the depth of this PrC). Next a Rope Trick spell is cast within the circle using a scarlet silk rope. After this is done and the extradimensional space is opened, a Dimensional Anchor spell is cast upon the seed, which is then placed inside the portal created by the Rope Trick spell. Before the last step, it is best for the Planescaper to remove himself from the Magic Circle. Finally, before the Magic Circle spell diminishes, a Minor Creation spell is cast onto the seed. With this there is a flare of green and white light and a dazzling display of magical energies. The rope, the circle, and the seed have all cleared and leave no trace of their existance behind, however the Planescaper can 'feel' that the Seed has been successfully completed. see above qoute. |

I made it easer on orcy since he would have to find the magazine i just used the players manual. It does bnot give a manny benifits as the magazine but a good combanation of class.the ran/wiz is d8 dp per level bt the artical, and split ranger mostly. i did leave out all fire or electric spells since she could set the forest of fire by the spells. just cold spells since most forest have snow or cold weather. it would be a shame to have someone set the forest on fire, by spell or another way. i guess she can use cold or water spells to put out fires. |

| Lady Rolindin03-16-05, 11:33 PM | This is from Dragon August 2003 Roles of the Wild by Rich Redman As a class id Dunfeons & Dragons, the ranger clearly has his roots in Aragoen fromm J. R. R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, the class has grown. NOw it has a life of its own, and no edition of D&D would be complete witout it. Rangers are peotectors of the wilderness. Although the class description given in the players handbook mentions forests, rangers are found in every type of terrain, including the underdark and beneath the seas. Rangers are hunters, scouts, pathfinders, trackers, and explorers. While they lack a fighters feata, a paladins divine powers, or a barbarians rage, rangers have their own combat styles and a canny ability to use terrain to their best advantage, Of all the classes, only rogues can even hope to match the scouting abilities of the ranger. Skill Points: a mighty 6+ Int modifier sets the ranger above barbarians, druids, and monks. Animal empathy is no longer a skill, and intutit Direction is gone as well, but rangers now get Knowledge (dungeoneering) as class skills and Knowledge (geography). Ranger Backgrounds Rangers are self-sufficient characters that work with other rangers and individuals from other claees because they see a need to do so. As a resulty, they have no particular bias for law or chaos. some rangers prefer hierarchical oeganizations, rules, and teamwork. Others perfer to use their own initiative and work primarily alone. Rangers are usally from rural environments (but see urban Rangers below). These communities are not as wild or isolated as barbarian communities, but they are mich closer to and part of the natural world than coties. Rangers generally grow up aware of nature's rich, complex web of life alongside that of civilization. Urban Rangers There are those whose keen sense and combat skills kead them down a path similar to that of traditional rangers, but they roam the mean streets of the city rather than the wilderness. These characters are likely to br officers of the watch, bounty hunters, or spies. To play an urban ranger, use the rules from the ranger class description in chapter 3 of the Player's Handbook. Every rule mentioned there also applies to an urban ranger. With your dm's permission, however, you can adopt a few modifications desgned to make your character more effective in an urban environment: Change class skills by swapping Knowledge (geography) for Knowledge (local), and Knowledge (nature) for gater information. Trade the track feat for the stealthy feat. Take an organization or culture rather than a creature type as a favored enemy. for example, you might choose the nameless Legion, which would allow you to use your favored enemy bpnuses against mercenaries who belong to that organizatiopn, but not to other mercenaries. Be sure to make such choices in concert with your dm or you could end up with a favored enemy you never encounter. Swap out a few ranger spells for bard spells of equal level. some trades to be consider include detect snares and pits for detect secret doorsm, speak with plants for detect thoughts, plant growth for phantom steed and tree stride for dimension door. You might want to see if your dm will allow trades from different class lists as well, but don't expect to get chain lighting out of it. Class combos the revision makes it less likely that any class will "cherry Pick" other classes, only taking the first level for its benefits. Instead, characters are likly to continue multiclassing for extended periods because the combinations fit the players vision of the character. Paladins and monks, because of tgier restrictions on multiclassing are least likely to make class combos, and arn't covered here. Ranger/Bard The ranger and bard are similar in sererval ways. There is very little difference in their average hit points. Both get the same number of skill points ar each level. They even have skills in common. Rangers have a more favorable attack bonus progression and a more favorable fortitude saving throw progression. Bards have a more favorable will save orogression and begin casting spells sooner. With their combined access to hide and move silently and their very high reflex saving throw bonuses, these characters often make excellent scouts, returning to the party with news of what lies ahead, bardic knowledge related to the threat, and some ideas on hpw their abilities can enhance the rest of the party while dealing wit it. Gnomes are more likely to favor this combination than any other race. Because they treat gnome hooked hammers as martial weaponsm gnome ranger/bard are slightly more likely to take the melee combat style hd d8 skill points(6+int)*4 (after 6+int) Character Choices these characters spend skill points from both classes on climb(str). concentration (con), hide (dex), and move silently (dex0. additional ranger skill points are spent on ride and survival. Addotional bard skill points are spent on perform and knowledge (history) untill thr character has 5 ranks in the latter for the boost it gives to bardic knowledge checks. they divide remainingf skill points between knowledge (dungeoneering), knowledge (geography), and knowledge (nature) over ensuing levels. Because of their light armor and lower average hiy points, characters using this combination often pursue the ranged combat style. They rarely choose constructs, elmentals, plants, or undead as favored enemies, but otherwise display a wide variety of choices. small characters choosing this combination most often seek animal companions they can ride and that are capable of defending the character. His high fortitude and will saving throw bonuses prepare him to succeed at saving throws invoked by undead abilities. Even more than druids or paladins, this combination makes a fine secondary healer for a party. this combination offers an excellent fortitude saving throw bonus with good reflex and will saving throw bonuses, access to spells and the ability to turn or rebuke undead. such characters bas attack bonus progressions are slow compared to a single class ranger and never get a cleric high level spells or a rangers high level abilities. They benefit from a rangers broad weapon proficiencies, but not from the clerics access to heaver armor. Fortunately, their hit points equal either a single class cleric or a single class ranger. character choices Characters choosing this combination use skill points from both classes to buy ranks in heal. Additional cleric skill points also go into knowledge (religion)(int) for the boost it gives to attempts to turn or rebuke undead. Additional ranger skill points go into concentration, handle animal (cha), knowledge (nature) (int), survival (wisd), and eother knowledge (dungeoneering)(int) or knowledge (geography)(int). the ranger/ cleric often chooses undead as its favored enemy and repeats that choice at 5th and 10th level to increase the bonuses. Characters are evenly divided on which combat style is best, since composite longbiws do as much damage as most one=handed melee weapons and undead ignore critical hits. they choose feats that support their combat style, and also take self-sufficient. The example progression on page 61 follows the melee combat style, and often chooses a light spiked shield as its off-hand weapon. Anomal companions that can dish out large amounts of melee damage are often favored by this class, particularly bears and lions. When choosing spells, characters with this combination prefer spells that aren't opposed by spell resistance since they will never have the caster level of a single class cleric. spells that affect the caster or casters allies are favored, particularly those with instantaneous durations since they are unaffected by caster level. Strong domain choices include air, death, destruction, evil, fire, good, healing, knowledge, magic, plant, peotection, strength, sun, travel, trickery, and war. The ranger gives up some skill points and base attack bonuses progression, but gains druid spells and loses no hit points. the combunation gets both druid and ranger spells, but also has some overlapping abiliters that do not stack (wild empathy and woodland stride). fortunately, a druids animal companion ability an a rangers animal companion ability stack for the purposes of determining the power of an animal companion. the druid class cannot use metal armor, but this suits the rangers combat style restriction on armor. Character choices characters who pursue this class combination generally focys their skill points on concentration, knowledge (nature), and survival. Additional druid skill points go to spellcraft (int). additional ranger skill points go tp hide (dex), move silently (dex), and either knowledge (dungeoneering) (int9 or knowledge (geography (int). the druid/ranger is most comfortable in the grwat outdoors and prefers the ranged combat style and the feats that support it for their lethality at distances. Their favored enemies are often some type of humanoid or gaints. Dwarfs and gnomes who follow this combination prefer gaints as their favored enemy, enhancing racial benefits against those foes. skill points for feats. characters that pursue this combination will never be as skilled as other rangers, but they will possess significantly more feats. combined woth the rangers combat stlye, this makes for a deadly combatant. while they can be stealthier than fighters, they aren't as stealthy as single-class rangers. their srtrenght lies in the fact that very few obstacles represent more than a delat to them ,as what they can't climb or jump over, they can swim across. the fighter class provides additional hit points, as well as fughter bonus feats. of all the races, dwarfs are the most likely to pursue this combination. dwarf ranger/fighters typically mate the melee combat style with the dwarfven urgrosh or with a shield and dwarven waraxe. character choices this class combination usally spends fighters skoll points on climb (str) and swim (str). ranger skill points go to hide (dex), survival (wis), and either knowledge (dungeoneering) (int), knowledge (geography (int), or knowledge (nature) (int). in order to take advantage of the rangers combat stylem, these characters cannot take advantage of the fighters proficiency with all forms of armor. the two classes are equally proficient with weapons. the slight edge in hit points given by the fighters larger hit die means this combination is more likely to follow the melee combat style. no favored enemy is more commonly chosen than another. the ranger/fighter favored animals are often flying creatures, as many others cannot handle the rugged terrain this combination travels. fighter /ranger level bab (1) ranger/fighter and has the potentail to inflict a great deal more damage thanks to sneak attack damage and the two classes shared expertise in steath. ranger/rogues give monsters nightmares. this combination puts the ranger in the odd position of being the class that reduces the characters skill points. overall the combination gets more hit points than a single-class rogue and more skill points than a single-class ranger. it has good fortitude saving throw bonuses, very good reflex saving throw bonuses, and access to ranger weapons. the ranger limitation to light armor is no drawback for the rogue, who wants light armor to avoid armor penalities. this nimble, stealthy combination makes for an excellent hunter and scout. Character choices characters pursuing this combination focus on stealth, specifically hide (dex) and move silently (dex), spending skill points from both classes on those skills. Additional rogue skill points go to climb (str), jump (str), listen (wis), spot (wis), tumble (dex), use magic device (cha), and use rpoe (dex). additional ranger skill points go to knowledge (dungeoneeriong) (int), knowledge (geopraphy ) (int), knowledge (nature) (int) and survival (wisd). because of the combination's relatively low hit points, most characters pursuing it follow the ranged combat style and chooose feats to accent that. most characters do not choose constructs, elementals, plants, or undead as favored enemies since these are uneffa=ected by the ranger/ rogue sneak attack daMAGE. arcane spells and a more favorable will saving throw bonus orogression. the ranger sacriices hit points, skill points, and base attack bonus progression for these two advantages. in addition, he suffers an arcane spell failer chance when wearing armor. fortunately, since the ranger wears kight armor anyway, this chance is faurly small( many learn mage armor and sheild ans use those instead of conventional armor). in addition, characters pursuing this combination typically follow the ranged combat style, since somatic componets require a free hand and that puts a crimp in the melle combat style. sorcerers also get familiars, and those magical beasts have sufficent intelligence and communication skills to enhance the rangers already impressive scouting abilites. character ChoicesRangers, sorcerers and wizards share concentration (con), craft (int0, nad profession (wis0 as class skills. characters pursuing this combination typically spend sorcerer skill points on concentration and spell craft (int). they typically spend ranger skill points on concentration, handle animal, (cha), hide (dex), move silently (dex), survival (wis), and either knowledge (dungeoneering )(int), knowledge (geographt (iny), or knowledge (nature) (int). most orefer bats, hawks, owls, or ravens for their familiars, because flying familiars make excellent scouts. a few however, prefer cats for improvment to the master's stealth. almost all choose animal companions for the animals melle fighting ability, using that animal as a guarding. most prefer the largers animal they can acquire, taking cover behind it whenever possible. those with cats as familiars often choose big cats as companions. most characters pursuing this occupation choose one or more kinds of outsiders as their favored enemy. ranger/sorcerer and ranger /wizard level bab (1) fort (2) ref(3) will (4) abilities and (recommended feats)(5) 1 rgn1 +1 +2 +2 +0 1st favored enemy, track, wold empathy, feat (dodge), 2 rgn1/w1 or s1 +1 +2 +2 +2 summon familiar, scroll scribe 3 rgn2 w1 or s 1 +2 +3 +3 +2 combat stlye, feat 4 rgn2 w2 or s2 +3 +3 +3 +3 5 rgn3/w2 or s2 +4 +3 +3 +4 endurance 6 rgn3/w3 or s3 +4 +4 +4 +4 feat (mobility) 7 rgn4/w3 or s3 +5 +5 +4 +4 animal companion, 1st level ranger spells 8 rgn4/w4 or s4 +6 +5 +5 +5 9 rgn5/ w4 or s4 +7 +5 +5 +5 2nd favored enemy, feat (point blank shot) 10 rgn5/w5 or s5 +7 +5 +5 +5 11 rgn6/w5 or s5 +8 +6 +6 +6 improved combay style 12 rgn6/w6 or s6 +9 +7 +7 +7 feat (arcane srike) 13rgn7/w6 or s6 +10 +7 +7 +7 woodland stride 14 rgn7/w7 or s7 +10 +7 +7 +7 15 rgnrgn8/w7 or s7 +11 +8 +8 +7 swift tracker, 2nd levl ranger spells, feat (shot on the run) 16 rgn8/w8/s8 +12 +8 +8 +8 17 rgn9/s8 or w8 +13 +8 +8 +9 evasion 18 rgn9/w9 or s9 +13 +9 +9 +9 feat (precise shot) 19 rgn10/w9 or s9 +14 +10 +10 +9 3rd favored enemy 20 rgn 10/w1o0 or s10 +15 +10 +10 +10 feats: Aracne strike (general) you can channel arcane energy into your melle attacks. prerequisites; | NightScreamer2004-24-05, 02:04 AM | [deleted] please forget this post ever excisted. Will do... Thoughout this time of his silence Oop has created a makeshift Outpost on a large branch of the Foundation. His magical chains crawling and snaking it's way across the trunk of the tree, until it slides around his body and slowly shrinks down to normal size, at which time it wraps and ocks itself around his waist. |
| Dyne04-26-05, 12:02 AM | An elf trods across the soil of the Forest Dwellers Foundation. He dons a vibrant emerald-green robe, and he leans on an oak staff. "I represent some that are known as the Wind of Change, friends of the Children of the Planes. We would like to extend our hands in friendship to the Forest Dwellers Foundation." |
| Aramar the Black04-26-05, 09:46 PM | The Elven archer comes forwad from his long-time sitting position. "My, my, but it seems that you cannot lift a rock nowadays without finding a guild of sorts under it. But I greet you yet, newcomer. And as I extend my hand to recieve yours, I ask these questions: by what name my we call you, and what are the "dogmas" of the Winds of Change?" |
| Dyne04-26-05, 11:51 PM | "My name is Aust. I represent the Wind of Change, an organization dedicated to change for the better. The region is politically unstable. War is doomed to occur as warlords bid for land and the throne. The Wind of Change seeks to prevent conflict, as well as to preserve the peace and serenity of nature." "Nature is our ally, and any who acts out in violence will find the forces of nature acting out in violence against them." "The Children of the Planes are our ally. We have heard that you are also allies of them, so we seek an alliance with you on those grounds, in addtion to our similar connection to nature." "Is there anything more you would ask of us? Would you prefer we specify more on certain details?" |
| Aramar the Black04-27-05, 07:23 AM | No, I am satified enough. I cannot speak for the rest of us here, but I, for one, am for an alliance. |
| Cazic04-28-05, 08:06 PM | I am glad to see that there is another group that likes forests and the like. It will be good to see the power that will be gained by this alliegence. |
| Dyne04-28-05, 08:11 PM | "Yes, there is always strength in numbers. The Wind of Change promises to never violate the land of the Great Forest. However, we ask for permission to establish a base in the Scorched Woods. Most of the creatures of the forest have left that area, and it would allow us to better aid the Forest Dwellers Foundation." |
| premier66605-09-05, 07:57 PM | You see an elf with Black hair and Black eyes with white pupils. He wearing an old black travelling cloack that contrasts heavily with his deep white skin. he also carries an ornate bow with the simbol of Selune in it. Greetings. I am Drauguril, the white wolf. I have travelled to a lot of places and met lots of organizations, but this is the single organization so far that realy cares about nature. I would like to join your ranks to help protect the forests. In case you are wondering, I am a Night elf. (Obs: this night elves are a race made by myself, not the one from warcraft 3. Maybe one day I'll post this race on the foruns. It has an amazing story acording to all who have read it. Including me) |
| Dyne05-09-05, 09:19 PM | There's a Shadow Elf (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5680531) race that someone posted up from a Dragon magazine. Perhaps you'd find that to be a little interesting. |

| premier66605-10-05, 08:26 PM | Thankfully, my night elf is different. first, they are not related to drow, though some people do think that thanks to they appearance. Although, they also have a bond with shadows, but the shadows of the night, as they worship selune. the story for them is also very different as I have many different references. |
| Aramar the Black05-23-05, 11:20 PM | "Hello, Master Deer, how fare thee today? Quietly, now, for it appears most poeple are gone, and those who are not are in a slumber. There has not been movement for at least a half-moon. You see how the trees make thier leafy patterns over the ground? Wondrous, is it not? That is why I love this place. That is why I craft arrows, and fight for the forest, and the children of nature. That's you too, Master Deer. I love it all. Now, I tire, so I will leave you to your hunting as I too settle down against this kind old Oak and join my good friends in thier slumber. Until later, my friend." |

Now, I eat you. :dragon: *eats Dyne* *Jumps back out through Sssargoth's mouth* I couldn't remember who had posted it up. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to wash your lunch out of my robes. :yuck: Only a red dragon would eat this stuff.... *Watches Aramar talking to a deer* *Whispers to a squirrel* "I think he's lost his marbles." The one known as the Stormhand strides into the midst of the Forest Dwellers. He is followed by a man in black robes with violet symbols, along with a few armed and armored guards. "I do not come here with intentions of war. I seek to establish a stronghold in the Scorched Woods section of the Great Forest. I hope that conflict between the Storm Federation and the Forest Dwellers Foundation will not occur. I promise that none of the trees of the Great Forest shall be harmed." |
| Aramar the Black05-31-05, 11:44 PM | That is fine with me, Stormhand, as long as your stronghold does not overly interfere or obstruct nature in that area. And, forgive me, but you may see me hovering around there whilst you build it. What is wrong with talking to deer? Other people of my abilites and backround talk to many creatures of nature. (Note that I am a ranger/sorcerer, named Garth, in this guild Asides, sometimes the creatures of the forest are better company that the peoples of the "civilized" world. Aramar often talks to them as well, but in those instances, it is more of an empathatical thing. |
| Dyne05-31-05, 11:54 PM | "Very well, hover about at your leisure." Stormhand departs, his men following at his heels. It was a joke. It was meant to imply that you were crazy for talking to an animal, but it was spoken to a squirrel. Get it? Nevermind. Here are a few things I found in the age-old archives of WotC. Spells of the Woodlands (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20040710a) Monsters of the Woodlands (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20040828a) Magic Items of the Woodlands (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20040919a) |
| Aramar the Black06-01-05, 08:14 AM | It was a joke. It was meant to imply that you were crazy for talking to an animal, but it was spoken to a squirrel. Get it? Nevermind. Heh, I get it now. Boy am I slow today. It funny. I can't believe I didn't pick up on it earlier. :embarrass :) |
| Dyne08-20-05, 11:59 PM | A stag wanders into the forest. He seems lost at first, but curious about his surroundings. A moment later the stag transforms into an elf with green eyes and long brown hair, wearing robes of the color of the earth and the leaves of the forest. Rustling leaves draw his attention, and a tree strides into view. The Ent (Treant) known as Bregalad, or Quickbeam, towers over the elf. "The forest has been silent for too long, my old friend," says the elf to the Ent. He then produces a small lyre. Upon strumming a few cords, the forest itself moves and forms itself into a fortress, the walls being of living wood. The elf strums the lyre again, and some of the trees open their eyes, and reveal themselves to be Ents. "The Great Fangorn Forest must awaken, for great things are at hand. War threatens to shatter the land, and there must be someone to look after the growing things." I deeply apologize for neglecting this foundation. However, if there are still those who would like to take part in this, I still want to keep it alive, and I plan on doing the best I can to keep it an active part of the IFWG. |
| Dyne08-21-05, 12:27 AM | The race of my character for this foundation (I'm simply not satisfied with the Wood Elf race). Forest Elf —+2 Wisdom, -2 Constitution —Medium Size —Base Land Speed 30 ft. —Immunity to sleep spells and effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects. —Low-light vision. —Weapon Proficiency: Forest Elves are automatically proficient with the longsword, longbow, composite longbow, shortbow, and composite shortbow. —+2 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks. —+2 racial bonus on Survival checks in forests. —+2 racial bonus on Hide and Move Silently checks in forests. —-2 racial penalty on Charisma checks with creatures other than Elves. —Automatic Languages: Common, Elven. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, Sylvan. —Favored Class: Druid. |
| Aramar the Black08-22-05, 04:34 PM | At the sound of the lyre, a pile of leaves shakes, to reveal the sylvan elf sitting beneath it. Long have I traveled the darkness of my dreams. Long has this forest been silent. Long have we been gone. Mayhaps my dreams will manifest. Mayhaps they may not. But I will always be here. About the Forest ef; it look okay, but for the sword profieciencies; I can't see them training with those particular weapons. |
| Arshes08-22-05, 05:04 PM | i can see the bow proficiencies, but perhaps make them proficient with the elcen courtblade? |
| Demonfey08-22-05, 07:24 PM | A wolf enters the clearing, when a distortion appears around the wolf and alters its body. Flames wreathe the creature, its eyes turn black, the fur turning red, and bat wings sprout from its back. Newfound intelligence glimmers in its eyes, and, after clearing its throat, the wolf begins to speak Ah, I see nothing has really changed in my absence. A few new faces, a...tower...being erected in the Scorched Forest, but otherwise, nothing much. |
| Dyne08-22-05, 07:39 PM | The proficiencies are the same as the High Elf, except I got rid of Rapier because they aren't as dexterous. I only kept it at all because they are still elves, and so would still likely have some of the same traditions shared by the other elven subraces, such as training in archery and swordplay. "Tower in the Scorched Woods? I did not notice such." He gestures to Bregalad, who moves off to investigate. The forest elf then moves inside the stronghold of living wood, at the heart of the Winding Wood, finishing some details of the fortress. Glad to see there's still some activity here. It's been too long, guys. |
| Demonfey08-22-05, 07:53 PM | The proficiencies are the same as the High Elf, except I got rid of Rapier because they aren't as dexterous. It's been too long, guys. I'm not sure. Could just be because I put my other body on autopilot, and still have the channel open. May mean I'm seeing things here that are on that world. |
| Dyne08-22-05, 08:11 PM | The Ent Bregalad returns. The forest elf walks outside again, and the ent speaks to him in a strange language few recognize (Entish). The elf nods and considers this new bit of information. "You were not mistaken. There is indeed a tower in the Scorched Woods. However, I did not notice it because it is magically disguised to match the terrain. Bregalad says the tower of stone bears the symbol of the kingdom Bristol." Aramar, since you are the member who has been here longest and seems to be most connected to this foundation, would you like to become a sort of Keeper of the Trees? Basically, an In-Game guildmaster, except with less work, to make sure I do not bias the guild towards the Stormhand Federation. Mostly, you would make decisions such as for Alliances and whether or not we go to war. I can still keep the thread, design the stronghold (actually this might take a while), and figure the statistical stuff (like what to spend our gold on and the like). But, I need someone else to be a sort of "ambassador," except with more power. An overseer of the political intricacies of the guild. |
| Aramar the Black08-22-05, 09:00 PM | Sure, I'll give it a shot. |
| Dyne08-22-05, 09:41 PM | Awesome! I've edited the Members List to grant you the honor of Keeper of the Wood. I'll look into what alliances have already been established. |
| Dyne08-22-05, 09:55 PM | For the review of all members: Alliances Children of the Planes Council of Archmages I thought we had more than that before, but I guess not. That should give a fairly accurate idea of where we stand right now. |
| Dyne08-26-05, 07:43 PM | The sounds of beating drums draw your attention. Moments later, the forest echoes with the thunderous footsteps of hundreds of soldiers, all bearing the marking of the Stormhand Federation, march toward the eastern end of the forest, toward the Scorched Woods. And the trees are all just fine, none of them are on fire. There is merely a large gathering of troops in the Scorched Woods. |
| Arshes08-26-05, 08:31 PM | Defend the forest! Do not let them within 50ft of the forests! We must keep them out! Show them the rage of the forests! Came the shouts of the arhcmage of thunder, Ilstar. you know, this would be a good time to decide the forests guardian. perhaps a 48hd woodling grey render? :D |
| Dyne08-26-05, 08:34 PM | Arshes, are you even a member of the Forest Dwellers Foundation? And what are you talking about concerning a guardian? One of the commanders shouts out. "Hail and well met! Do not take us for enemies, for we are causing no harm. We are strengthening our garrison in the Scorched Woods. War has been declared, and the world has suddenly become a dangerous place. However, while we are here, we have been given orders to defend the forest from intruders." |
| turalisj08-26-05, 08:37 PM | he's not, but i am. :P and i can take out alot of your men. (could you put a map of of where the troops are at?) The forests need no defence. Leave now and no harm may come to you. But refuse, and you shall be cut down to the last man. A voice said in the distance, echoing around. i've got a ring of invisibility, a 4ft long blade of energy, and a str score of 20. |
| Dyne08-26-05, 09:11 PM | "Should you take action against us, you will be violating the agreement the Forest Dwellers have made with the Stormhand Federation. Do you wish to put the forest in danger? Do you delight in causing destruction? If not, then you will let us pass." The ground shakes with the footsteps of massive creatures, and five war trolls stride into view. I haven't actually posted up the stats for the soldiers and how many there are, etc. So there can't be any fighting yet. In any case, the Forest Dwellers Foundation agreed to allow the Stormhand Federation to set up a stronghold in the Scorched Woods. Going back on this is declaring war on the Stormhand Federation, and without provocation. |
| turalisj08-26-05, 09:42 PM | I wasn't here at the time. so my character wouldn't know about any tower or anything. unless anyother guild member could show up to save your butt. |
| Dyne08-26-05, 09:57 PM | In-Character, the commander just mentioned the agreement to you. You can either take his word for it, wait for Aramar to show up (he's the In-Character head of the guild), or you can act independently and attack them. Your choice. |
| Demonfey08-27-05, 12:25 AM | Ah, same as ever, Turalisj. They are here by foundation agreement. You look around for the familiar voice, yet all that is visible is what appears to be a fiery wolf with large bat wings Yes, it's me, Crowley. |
| Dyne08-27-05, 11:07 AM | The commander orders his formation forward, and the group of soldiers continues toward the Scorched Woods. The five war trolls growl at Turalisj and Arshes as they pass. |
| turalisj08-27-05, 11:16 AM | they wouldn't know i was there dyne. :P they'd just know there was someone threatening them. |
| Dyne08-27-05, 11:21 AM | Well, they growl at wherever they think the voice came from. I mean, does it really matter? Do I have to sick my walking statue on you? ;) :P |
| Aramar the Black08-29-05, 06:28 PM | The wood elf known as Tirian come up amongst them members of the forest. "Calm yourselves, my friends. Rage is not the answer. We shall let them have their stronghold. However, this is the forest, and we will defend it. While they defend it as well, we are thier allies, and we shall treat them as such. Yet, I see no reason for you not to be wary. They are powerful, and we must keep watch on them. If they can hold to themselves, then we may let them be. Until they earn the wrath of the forset, truefully, then we should not give it to them. And, trust me, it is a gift they do no want. I have heard accussations here and there. Prove them, then you will have something. Prove any further offenses, and the forest should meet in swift council." |
| Dyne08-29-05, 08:59 PM | Something strange seems to be going on at the Tower in the Forest. All the usual flags and banners have been replaced with black counterparts. Very little color or energy seems to be about, and the tower seems veiled in mourning. A loose formation of soldiers, mostly officers and knights, can be seen walking through the forest, toward Castle Bristol. All of them wear gloomy expressions on their faces. |
| Aramar the Black08-29-05, 09:42 PM | "Death, like a cloud, has set upon the tower. So will it be. They mourn thier loss." Tirian places a hand on his avian friends, and bows his head silently as he watches from a nearby tree. Quietly, his rough voice murmurs the words of an ancient elvish hymn. |
| Valarian's Beloved08-31-05, 01:10 PM | A soft voice behind them blends in with the ancient elvish hymn. A cloaked figure in hunter green stands with head bowed. |
| Demonfey09-01-05, 12:40 PM | He died a warrior's death. That is all any of us can wish for. |
| Zombomaniac09-07-05, 11:53 PM | Outside your halls you hear mighty thunder and see that it comes from the diraction of Bristol. As you look at it a mighty storm covers the city and lighty flashes again and again. The storm is like no other you have ever seen and looks almost alive. |
| The Vorpal Tribble09-23-05, 03:04 PM | Heyas, everyone come and vote for their favorite monster at the UnCon Monster Creation Contest: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=507195 |
| Abicus Acton10-08-05, 01:15 PM | A figure can be seen flying overhead on a broomstick. He then lands on the forest floor and takes a look around. Abicus clears his throat. "Hello," he says to the seemingly empty forest. "I am Abicus Acton. I come here in the hopes of peace. Well, you see, I am the headmaster of Conscientia, Academy of Magic. We would like to build our Academy on the edge of the Winding Woods, if the inhabitants of the forest would permit." He patiently awaits an answer, if one will come. |
| Aramar the Black10-10-05, 05:43 PM | A cat-like elf comes down, suddenly, from one of the trees. "Hm. Long have we slept. Sleep seems a common problem in this forest. May you build near here? A careful question. Once, perhaps still, is there a tower near this forest; one which caused great dispute. As a Keeper of this forest, this I say; unless disagreed upon by any who may awaken and object, you will be permited to build your school near the edge of this forest. However, I ask that you would follow these charges. We will have a peace truce between yourselves and your allies, and ourselves and ours, so that neither may fear attack, at the least. Break this bond, or any other, and you suffer the arrows. Also, you shall release nothing unnatural into our woods. We will keep to ourselves, and you shall keep to yours, unless a comon threat should confront us both. Again, the arrow is the judgement. Now, what say the peoples of the forest, who have for so long slept, and the poeple of the arcane?" |
| Wilds10-10-05, 05:57 PM | A lone wolf wanders into a clearing. It looks around then rears onto its hind legs. It shifts into a man. Wearing clothing marking him as a normal citizen of a town he speaks. "May I speak with the watchers of this land?" |
| Aramar the Black10-10-05, 06:01 PM | A quick look of suprise crosses the elf's face. Then it is impassive. He gestures towards the newcomer with a wave and a nod, motioning him to speak. |
| Wilds10-10-05, 06:07 PM | "I come seeking a home and sancuary. I was driven out of my last home by self rightous clerics. They believed that I am evil and that I must be killed at all costs. While they had reason to dislike my kind, they were not warrented in attacking my home and "cleansing" my house. I lost my family, something I will never forget. But I will not retailate, for that will only give them more reason to hate my kind. I ask for your permision to live in on this ground and to live freely." |
| Aramar the Black10-10-05, 06:33 PM | The elf looks at the newcomer, empathy and kindness softening his face. "Certainly, you may find sanctuary here. I too, am one who is not wholy what he seems, and still cringes at the sight of the glowing full moon. I, too, lost my life, to the unscrupulous who serve "higher" powers. Be at peace with us, and we shall be at peace with you. I am Tirian; by what name are you known?" |
| Wilds10-10-05, 06:56 PM | "I no longer use my human name, it means nothing now. I am Blood Fang. I will live in peace here and aid in teh defense of the land." |
| Aramar the Black10-10-05, 07:05 PM | "It is good. Mayhaps, you may find the others asleep in the forest, buried under the leaves of the coming autumn." |
| Abicus Acton10-10-05, 07:22 PM | A cat-like elf comes down, suddenly, from one of the trees. "Hm. Long have we slept. Sleep seems a common problem in this forest. May you build near here? A careful question. Once, perhaps still, is there a tower near this forest; one which caused great dispute. Now, what say the peoples of the forest, who have for so long slept, and the poeple of the arcane?" "We are not a political group, merely a school. We do not have allies or enemies, only friends and scholars. However, I do guarantee that no harm shall be caused to this forest from any of our Academy. Additionally, I agree to all of your conditions." I don't think we will need to "release anything unnatural" into the woods. There will probably be enough strange creatures to make it interesting enough. However, I still want to pursue the possibility of enchanted streams, and possibly an enchanted portion of the forest. Fairy Tales are full of such things, like the stream in Mirkwood that puts people to sleep (from The Hobbit). But, I've never seen any D&D rules for this, which is really a shame. |

However, I do guarantee that no harm shall be caused to this forest from any of our Academy. Additionally, I agree to all of your conditions." Strange is perspective. Some who live in the forest may seem strange to you, but they are perfectly natural creatures; the children of the woods. I have seen that which is unnatural; abberations, undead, and other pitiful or monstrous things created by arcane magics. In the past, I have seen such creations wreak havoc on the places of nature. Don't lose control, if ever you stray into such foul arts. If you wish to come learn of magic streams and lakes, walking tree shepherds, living stone monoliths, and the music of the animals, you may. But be wary with every step. For not all things are, as one might say, kind. Civilization is sometimes seen as a plaugue in the deep woods, and arcane magic a blasphemy. The magical things you seek fall more under the purview of the fey and forestals. But, if indeed you show respect and calm, then I may share and discuss with you some mysteries of the forest." |

Just making sure you knew all the uncolored parts of my post were not in-character. I suspect strange, in that sense, would be anything not common (or present at all) in our own world, especially that which is uncommon even for D&D. As it is my understanding, people are free to make whatever creations they wish, as long as they are approved by the people in charge before they are used. So, I can imagine many types of new forest creatures in this foundation. |
| Wilds10-10-05, 10:19 PM | Over hearing the conversation about arcane magic and the forest Fang turns and walks out fo the clearing. |

Yes, I knew, but I thought it would be possible to answer them IC, so as to both repliy to the comments, and give futher insight into Tirian's thoughts on the matter. |
| Abicus Acton10-10-05, 10:53 PM | Abicus looks around at the forest. "This is a very wonderful and peaceful place. I wonder if this may be considered, although it may seem like an awkward request from one such as myself: Can I join this foundation? Will you recognize me as a denizen of the forest, as a symbol of my peaceful intention?" |
| Aramar the Black10-11-05, 07:09 PM | Tirian looks at Abicus for a long time, his eyes, slanted, judging. Finally, he speaks, quietly: "Mayhaps, you will be goodly person to be here. You may enter here as a denizen of the forest. But be always mindful; arcane magic walks uncertain ground here, and thus your path be too be shaky. But, mayhaps, if you walk such a road, you will be with support." |
| Aramar the Black11-08-05, 09:38 PM | Wilds, you still here? Abicus? ANybody else want to be a part of this place? Perhaps, to anyone who answers, we should start a new thread, seeing that our beloved founder is gone? |
| Wilds11-08-05, 09:44 PM | Im here, my char is the GoUE right now though. Ya start a new one. Dyne is still here somewhere he just chooses to no longer post, but he watches so its close enough I guess.... |
| Demonfey11-08-05, 09:53 PM | I'm here. I think it's time for a new guild, too. |
