As you open the gargantuan ironwood doors that are in your path, you gazein wonder at what lies inside. Weapons line the walls like wallpaper, warriors are practicing their styles of martial arts and weapons fighting, sorcerers are delving into te ancient magics of their ancestors, and right in front of you sits a lone weaponssmith creating the most elaborate sword yo have ever seen. Then it hits you, you realize where you have finally arrived to: The Foundation of the Orient.

As the founder of the Foundation of the Orient, I would like to bid you welcome to the greatest foundation/guild about the world of the Orient. We here in the Foundation of the Orient would like to take all of the loose-knit clans and foundations based on samurai, ninja, monks, etc. and put them all into one foundation. The Foundation of the Orient is a place for all races and classes to discuss and debate about topics concerning the Samurai and other Oriental Adventures topics. You can post your custom classes, races, feats, skills, weapons, and anything else you want to if it pertains to the Orient.

All classes and races are welcome, whether you are a noble Samurai, a stealthy Shinobi, or even a combative Monk. If you want to join, just post that you want to. Even if you don't feel like joining at this very moment, feel free to post your creations and opinions.

And one last thing, role-playing. Feel free to role play. If you want to though, just put it in red so you don't confuse anyone.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the members list. If you want to join, just post your request and your wanted title and wee will add you.

Let me join aswell

So anybody of you that read the complete warrior or Divine?

and what did you think of the Samurai and Shugenja there?

Samurai: Well it has more flavor but it lost his royal thingy

Shugenja: What no change? This class was to powerfull in Oriental Adventures in the first place tune it down!

Nop haven't read them.

I like the xp, instead of gold, using Rokugan Samurai the best.
Think that some psionic feats from th XPH would fit nicely in a oriental setting. Up the walls would be very cool with a monk.

The ronin follows the shogun to the new foundation. Hmm..this place will be more diverse. Problems could arise with those who have no honour. They will not follow the honourable rules that are set. We should whatch closely

I am Tenzhi, the Wisdom of Heaven. I am the 37th star that was left unspoken. I was the First and I will be the Last. I will not join, for such is my nature - but I will abide here at times and occasionally share my Divine knowledge, such as it is.

::eyes the Samurai::

I do not believe in honour for the sake of honour, but I do hold myself to certain principles.

The master swordsmith Masamune looks up at the crowd of newcomers entering the clan hall. He puts down his half-made sword and welcomes the newcomers.

First off, here's the first draft of the members list:

1. Masamune
2. Son_Of_Cthulhu
3. Ouroboros

If you have joined, just put Member of the Foundation of the Orient with Foundation of the Orient linkes to this thread in your sig.

I would have to aggree with De Batavier on the Psionic Feats...that would be pretty cool not only for Monks, but for Samurai and Ninja as well.
De Batavier

@Tenzhi
Honour is what seperates us from animals. You say you abide by certain principles, for me that means you act to your own code. Depending on your principles, you could be honourable. I like to talk with you about honour. Shall we share tea and talk? The Ronin offers a cup of tea.

Yes i agree that most oriental classes could benefit from psionic feats, but a monk with a speed of 60+ and Up the walls would be very cool.

The castle is protected by a 60 feet wall. How are you going to scale that without equipment? I was thinking i just walk up there. ;)
Tenzhi

Psionics is a natural companion to any oriental setting - though altering the names is necessary to make it more suitable. Just make it all Ki or Chi (or even Qi, if you prefer) related and it fits like a glove.

@De Batavier

::accepts the tea::

Humans and their ilk are, to me, as animals are to them. Some of them make good companions, others (elves, for instance) make good food.

As for my principles - I never lie (though my meaning may not always be clear); I am loyal to my friends; and I will defend the helpless and innocent (even if they're elves - though innocence can be a murky matter to discern).

However, I will not blindly follow the orders of another (indeed, there are none great enough for me to swear fealty to) and I find suicide to be a generally silly notion (not the least of which because it is inconsequential to me).
De Batavier

07-03-04, 09:04 AM
Sounds to me you have a lot of honour. But it also sounds if you are a looner, you have no clan and are only responsible for your own actions. I agree that following orders blindly is bad, one must always guard against orders that go agains honour. Therefore i'm a ronin. I have forsaken my lord, but i think he has forsaken me first by giving orders that went against my honour.

Yes renaming some psionic feats to fit the setting would be best. I think a class as the soulknife could be very cool in an oriental setting, they can be very good ninja types.
Ouroboros

07-03-04, 03:48 PM
I don't like the soulknive but for the orient it isn't to bad.
There was a Dragon isue that had about psions in a oriental world that was cool.

Darn i should keep a closer watch on those dragon magazines. I have bought only three sofar. The one with the 3.5 DM-screen, the one with that updates OA to 3.5 and the one with the Dark Sun artikel and the Erudite.

There're are places in this world that are so evil, that just being there darkens your soul and twistens your body.

The Taint. Just recently my DM incorperated this game mechanic in our homebrew campaignworld. I think it's cool. It gives an extra urgency to get the mission over quick, atleast before you run out of jade.

Here's a pretty interesting prestige class I created yesterday:

The Kabuki Master (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=3869149#post3869149)

There is two types, the first is the base class that I made, and the second is the modified prestige class of the Kabuki Master.
De Batavier

07-04-04, 08:43 AM
Only looked quickly through them, but they look nice. If you don't mind, keep us posted on the developments off that thread.
Masamune

07-07-04, 04:43 AM
technically, all it is is a bardic prestige class devoted to acting (Kabuki) and such, hence the name Kabuki Master. I'm still trying to work out all of the kinks, but it should be completely finished in a few days.

but besides that, I'm thinking of running a Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven campaign with my friends. does anyone have any resources, like char stats (Rikimaru/Ayame) or the legendary weapon stats (The Shichisto)?

Since nothing has been happening for a while, I'm going to put this question out:

Which do you feel is the best clan in Oriental Adventures and Rokugan?
Ouroboros

07-17-04, 06:22 AM
I don't like the lion clan the rest did rock
Tenzhi

07-17-04, 07:13 AM
I like the minor clans. But they weren't detailed in OA...
De Batavier

07-17-04, 08:24 AM
We don't use the clans from Rokugan. We just borrow the things we like for use in our own homebrew campaign.

I think OA is one of the best 3.0 books by WotC.

sign me up!

a samuria dressed in blazing red cloths appears from nowhere in a flash of flames. "will we have titles? if so sign me up as the samuria of the hidden valcano." he then forms a small table made out of hardend magma and sits on it.

The swordmaker finishes his newest creation: a blade so sharp, it can cut adamantine and so balanced, a child can wield it like a master swordsman. As he etches his insignia onto the blade, he looks up and notices a new face full of fire enter the guild hall and greets him to stay and become one of the guild members.

Welcome turalisj. Titles sound great. If anyone else wants a title, just post what you want it to be.

Here's the updated members list:

1. Masamune - Founder and The Master of the Blades
2. Son_Of_Cthulhu
3. Ouroboros
4. turalisj - Samurai of the Hidden Volcano

the red-clad samuria pulls out a vial of bold red liquid and a ravens egg. he then pours the liqiud into the hearth and pulls out another vial ,of pure white liqiud this time, and pours that into the flames. he then mutters an ancient druid enchantment. he places the egg into the flames and with a loud *bang* the samuria gets thrown back from the energy. he gets up smiling to himself and pulls a fiery red bird from the flames.
"behold my creation! the pheonix, bird lord of flames and air, has been born. the bird flapps around haphazardly and ends up crashing into masamune.
"hmm, he needs more practice flying"

edit: creating a pheonix, a pheonix can be created to be "in sync" with any element except darkness. the costs for creating a pheonx is 5000 gp for the materials and 50 gp for the ravens egg. the egg must be breed carefully, thus showing the high cost of the egg. the creater must have atleast 20 ranks in crafting(alchemy) to create a pheonix.
the energy of the pheonix is so great that the creator must make a will save(dc 22) or dake 1d6 points of burn, elctriocity, acid, etc. damage

p.s-ill be posting the stats for the pheonix soon!

a warroir clad in red walks up to masamune. "so where can i make my hut?"
Masamune

07-31-04, 05:33 PM
Masmune uses a staff to try to stand up after the "run-in" with the pheonix. With his sides aching and a pretty bruised face, he turns to turalisj with a look of both shock and anger. After creating long strands of obscene gestures, he sits back down to work on his new creation: The Shichishito. He looks up at turalisj and says to put his hut anywhere as long as he does not make any more damn pheonixes.

Just off topic, does anyone play the Legend of the Five Rings card game?
turalisj

07-31-04, 05:47 PM
the samuria grins and appologises to masamune. he then takes out a pure red blade and stabs the ground with it. he removes the blade and a small hut forms out of pure magma. "come flamesinger!" the pheonix begins to fly towards turalisj, but stop in midair and turns towards masamune.
"to not be angry at my earlier crash. being reborn would cause even a dragon to fall over backwards." at that the bird flies towards the molten hut and perches unharmed on the roof. he then begins to sing a soothing melody that would calm even an enraged tenzhi.
does any1 know how to get a custom smily?

I tried to get into it, but the rules are rather complex... that and the starter deck is a ripoff considering that it doesn't contain a fully functional deck.

Hmmm...interesting. I though my creation had died a while back. It's great to see that it is still thriving. Well, I'm going to try to read through the new foundation rules (the whole fortification and inventory thing) and recreate the Foundation of the Orient. If anyone has any suggestion, please post away!

Since there has been a burst of activity on WOTC's use of oriental adventures stuff, its not surprising about the revival.
turalisj

07-18-05, 07:42 PM
there is? i just went through my subscribed threads until i found this one and decided to revive it. and with the complete books each having atleast one oriental themed class, it seemed the best time to do it.

See? Increase in classes that have an oriental adventures flavor.

07-18-05, 08:32 PM
wait till you see him, +8 to str, +8 to con, +2 int, -2 cha. if you combine him with a half-dragon template, that's one ferocius force.....
(goes off pondering a half-red dragon stonechild)
Masamune

The swordsmith looks up and becomes excited with the new activity brewing through the foundation.

turalisj: A half red dragon/half stonechild wu-jen? That's something I HAVE to see.

Demonfey: Yeah, I'd have to agree that there has been a definite increase in oriental themed classes/races ni the D&D world, esp with the introduction of the samurai in Ultimate Warrior. That and there's some really sweet custom ninjas and such going around the forums that are wicked to play. There's nothing like a core class halfling ninja. Makes a rogue look like a simple pickpocket.

I've been looking through old Dragon magazines and have found one that has a bunch of oriental variants to the classes. I'll post em later. Also, I've been working on the fortification/armory/treasury that the new foundation rules have applied for guild wars and such. I should be finished in a few weeks, so any suggestions or additions are extremely appreciated.

clan based weapons such as what was listed in races of stone, but oriental style. and maybe a map of the guild house. perhaps a diffrent section for each class. and maybe a few oriental bsed races.

Is it ok with everyone if I have Denrik be the ingame leader of this guild? There are a number of oriental PC's, so this guild is a must..
