| Finwe04-15-04, 12:38 AM | Hello, everyone. I hope that you like your new home. This thread is for discussing questions/comments about this board and for posting what ind of things you want to see from this board. For example, if you think that there should be a post limit on foundation threads, or you think that IC and OOC threads should be separted, etc, post that here! Also, post your questions. We need input to write a FAQ, etc. Enjoy the board, and post lots of comments! Finwe |
| Galen04-15-04, 12:40 AM | Ice cream! We want Ice cream! :D:D:D Seriously, I think you should consider about threads where IC/OOC can take place. Some members can mistake IC comment as OOC. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-15-04, 01:00 AM | *clangs The Guild Bell* ....Silmarien enters the Great Council chamber with a great carved metal-shod staff in one hand. The Runestaff is heavily glyphed. She strikes the metal shod heel on the ground - there is a thunder clap as her green eyes flash with azure dweomer. "May the Great Council Begin" - she calls. She looks over to the Round Table a huge oaken piece of furniture - and she is wearing blue robes - that have arcaneography in mithril along the hems and sleeve ends. She has silver-blond hair. She scans the Council Chambers - locking eyes with you as you enter. "Speak your Wishes here" she says with a radiant smile, as she gestures for you to take a seat. She hands you a Lembas cookie and then turns to Finwe and Orcy..... cheers stav |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-15-04, 01:47 AM | HOOAH! Orcy says welcome to all you foundation members and potential members. He would like to take this time to... Orcy begins dancing Do that. Second, Orcy would like to say he will make suggestions when it isn't 1:50 in the morning, that is all... for now.... muahahahaha... uh... ignore that last part ;) |
| Tenzhi04-15-04, 02:29 AM | I want this to be a place for brain-storming, where many and varied ideas get developed along particular themes and without the constraints placed upon creativity by the need to carefully keep disparate the (as Sil might say, probably in an Ozzie drawl) 'IC and OOC voice.' Eventually, it might even be nice (though possibly unfeasible ;) ) to have one of those stickied compendiums like the PrC board has that contains direct links to the fully (or mostly) developed ideas. |

Sounds great (ozzie drawls). *smiles* - I'm very happy to have the space to do this stuff! It's  I can think of a few ways to go about that. Before I add my 2 cents worth - I'd love to hear how other people imagine this wish might be achieved here..... We'd love for you to come and share your thoughts. Eventually, it might even be nice (though possibly unfeasible ;) ) to have one of those stickied compendiums like the PrC board has that contains direct links to the fully (or mostly) developed ideas. Also  I reckon anyhowz. Sounds to me like what W.BigSis did for Forgotten Realms might be one way to go. We could achieve that result with a/some threads. Summary Threads - that organise "Finished Product" into neat groups? What do you guzy think. Also - Tenzh and everyone - sign up to the Pit of Nine Hells thread - when you getta chance..... regards stav |
| bitnine04-15-04, 02:57 AM | Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some themed links for content; that is, for example, there's a lot of orc and elf material and PrCs and weapons and spells and the like, and a quick reference type thing might be handy to have. |

Where each post organises URLs slightly differently - one post might have themes "By Race" next post "By Class"....etc....In this way, many items would or might end up on several Summary Theme posts - maximising ease in locating them..... In each window - would be all the URL's to take you all "throughout the Land" to the jewells in the masses of Posts..... just one idea.... |
| Tenzhi04-15-04, 03:02 AM | Well, Sil maintains a quicklink thread to all the important spots in the half-elf foundation thread (er, incidentally, do those links still work what with the move and all?) - perhaps if there were a thread where Foundation leaders could post such information (and easily keep current by editing their own posts) it would serve the purpose of both providing the links for easy access to all and keep the foundation leader from constantly cluttering up the actual thread with the info. |
| Incenjucar04-15-04, 03:06 AM | Wreathed in a thin aura of incandescent flame, the flame dancer draws back the hood of his flame-patterened cloak, lifting his lightless eyes up to the crowd, the black ash that flows as his "hair" sifting down on to the pale ash that forms his "skin". His half-elf-like visage speaks in a clear, but faintly raspy voice, his white solid-flame fangs glinting with his words. "Perhaps it would be advisable for the.. Council.. to enact a list of faces... profiles, that all who bring a form to this location be known without the need to force their image again and again amidst the conversation..." |
| Tenzhi04-15-04, 03:14 AM | That's an intriguing thought - though regardless of how you describe yourself, Incenjucar, I'm afraid I'll always imagine you as a kawaii anime ghost-flame. ;) |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-15-04, 03:33 AM | Originally posted by Tenzhi ...er, incidentally, do those links still work what with the move and all?.... *gasps* OMG - hadn't thought of that *prays* the thought of going through 3000 posts to find the bits and bobs..... *grabs headache tablets* perhaps if there were a thread where Foundation leaders could post such information (and easily keep current by editing their own posts) it would serve the purpose of both providing the links for easy access to all and keep the foundation leader from constantly cluttering up the actual thread with the info. yes - sounds good. G'day Incenjucar - With text or imagery - as is one's wOnt. Maybe we could call it the "The Guild Agora" thread. If noone objects - maybe you could Thread-Keep it? You interested? regards stav |

| Tenzhi04-15-04, 05:54 AM | Don't look at me - I shun responsibility without even the necessity to create fictional excuses such as "college" (I mean, really... "College"? What IS that, anyway? ;) ). |
| WizO_Catoblepas04-15-04, 07:38 AM | Ok, I've put what the Foundation Board Guidelines are on the board and stickied them to the top. They should be a lot more liberal than the last guidelines that were applicable for other boards. I would still recommend a FAQ thread, but ask that it does not conflict with the guidelines. Also, I'll sticky this thread to the top of the board for a little while to act as a suggestion box which was Finwe's intention figuring that this is a new board and I'm sure that there are several ideas milling about out there. |

| Silmarien Aldalome04-15-04, 08:56 AM | W.Cat - thanx for putting us in your sig. Much appreciated! *turns to Cousellors* I've cut a FAQ thread guyz - I'm looking for ideas for how to organise it and what to put in it. So far - only one item stands out - about how many memberships everyone can have. Also - something else to think about: how many "sticky" threads do we need do you reckon - and what would best serve the community/passers by/newcomers to have on them? It's gettin' late. See everyone soon. sil |

See everyone soon. sil Kisses the wife as he comes in from a hard day's work. STICKY THREAD: Before we switched to the current boards, I had a UFO running (United Foundations Organization). Perhaps we could do something similar here where each Foundation, Organization, Guild, etc. head could put in a one time post where the names and general purpoese of each respective Foundation et. al. that is located here. There could be a link to the various organizations. This could make it easier for people to come here and quickly find out what's here. Each Foundation's thread could read like a Mission Statement. The important thing would be for everyone to keep the thread as clean as possible. This means only one post per foundation. Lord Elf-Bane, we could possibly hanndle you idea there as well by editting the Mission Statement post with the Collections of What each individual foundation has developed. Again, this helps cut down on "clutter" and provides people with a nice one-stop place to find out what's available and where. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-16-04, 03:58 AM | OK - Consultation call.... - for "what you'd like on the Forum Description". I understand Finwe has kindly written up a draft. But - and this is an important but - we need your input too. 'Cause guyz - this is Your World - we look forwards to your advice and suggestions. Orcster+Fin+self think that we should share the "sticky thread" stuff - prolly one a-piece. That way - we each equally represent your wishes - equal representation in all things. My focus today has been to post to some of the quieter threads - to encourage discussion - and I've seen some really  new stuff emerging. *beautiful* I'd like to nominate Zollex as Custodian of the Tomes ..... does anyone object? He is a centralised Custodian of Reps and Honourary Roles. Also wanna hear what else you'd like. We need volunteers for the Confluence Threads (this is a new concept I'm developing - we need a new name -TENZHI HELP ME UN-TURGIDIFY THE NAME....pllleeeaaassseeee) :) These are "zones which centralise communal events". They are "between foundation" concepts. Ang's ideas=exactly what we're lookin' for. Other suggestions - "The Appeals Thread" (for "Village Judgments") or "The Games Games Thread" (for Between Thread Events)....etc. Also - I'm wanting to "sticky" a Thread I've madly developing called "Map of The Guild" - which is about the way the world hangs together - and what it's all about. It will also be a "suggestion" thread about "how" and "what" to map. For Newbies and Oldies too. ORCSTER - whatja wanna add. IC: Silmarien warmly accepts Anglar's gesture. She smiles radiantly at him - she grabs the folds of her robes and finds her way to him - and bows - as she says "Welcome Anglar Goldstems - ever your Counsel is well received. She studies the growing throng in the Counsel Chambers - and is warmed by the activity and enthusiasm. "Much is afoot in our New World Anglar - your Wisdom is Needed. How would you like to represent The People beloved - for your swordsmanship knows no rivalry. |

Confluence has a nice astrologic ring to it though. |

Links to the threads should be around, just so we make sure people can find threads quickly. That way even if they're on a distant page people can find their way to them. Orcy would like to see that list split into categories of: Race Oriented Groups (such as Half-Orc or Half-Elf and such) Class Oriented Groups (Such as paladin, and maybe archmages) Other Groups (this could be Archmages too, since it isnt a specific class, as well as the city of doors an such) the Other section is open for change for the name and whatnot... Orcy doesn't know if he just wants to have a buncha foundations thrown in under other. But doesnt want too many categories at the same time. Exactly what is it you want us to have Zollex doing Sil? | Incenjucar04-16-04, 04:36 AM | "I'd suggest getting a modron's opinion on this organization, but most of you flesh have lifespans and sanity to worry about. I agree with the round and sleep-loving one, that Confluence is... quite nice in and of itself. I further agree with the Wonderous one, and suggest, perhaps, that races be Beings, that monsters and deities may also be discussed, that Classes be Proffessions, to cover things from rogues to knights of the chalice to plumbers... that the Supernatural, be it spells, psionics, magic items, or the like have their place for discussion. Culture, too, has its place, for as the City of Doors is to demonstrate, it's not merely how it works, but who does it that matters.. to be more concise, a place where the spoken word holds true, while mechanics are left behind. Then may Other be left, for all that is not thus." |

| DiplomaticSorcerer04-16-04, 07:54 PM | With all of the foundations and organizations consolidated here, every one of our threads is dead and gone. Our old members may still post, but we will not get new ones. Each of our threads in now a needle in a haystack, and our audiences and possible applicants will not enjoy sifting through all these threads to find us, and we will be lost in the confusion. Also, the only people who might frequent this forum are those infamous "Title grabbers", who will join, put the foundation in their sig, and leave forever. It's all part of a grand plot of the WizOs to destroy the foundations! I KNOW IT! :twitch: I, as a concerned threadkeeper, do not support this at all. |
| Finwe04-16-04, 10:28 PM | Sil, every thread keeper for each thread shoulc be in charge of their own thread's stuff. We should have a sticky thread, called "The Great Library" or something, with all the active foundations listed. At the end of each week (preferably on saturday), all the threadkeepers PM the GM who's sticky that thread is, and he/she edits the post with the new links/titles, adding another post if neccesary. |

| Silmarien Aldalome04-16-04, 11:02 PM | The Guild House Charter Preamble They came from nowhere as points of light in a Great Darkness. A sudden well spring of Voice where there were none before. And so they gathered together in the Great Void - for there was naught else that yet existed. In this way, they found solace and kinship with each other. Together they gathered and then saw that each of them was distinct and comprised of many aspects whose varied composition was a great tapestry in the Darkness. And each was glad, for company dispelled the Void and music was brought forth, and Thought with it. This was the Place of No Time - the Eternity of The Void. And with that Thought - there was sudden discovery, and the blending of many competing Voices - who each had something to say. For they had discovered that they were in a Formless and Structureless Place. The Void of No Place and No Time an Eternal Never Ending vastness of unimaginable proportions. From this discovery, they learned how to order thought into distinct Aspects. There was marvel at this in the beginning. But also from this came the Time of Strife, where Magic was invented by necessity. For so it was that in making thought - it became possible that thought could clash with thought - and the Twin Polar Opposites of the cosmos were formed: This and That, Here and There, Up and Down, Wrong and Right, Black and White. Some took one pole of thought - and they called it "good" and in so doing - they sheared off the Twin Polar Opposite - who others called "evil". Others found disorder and they named this Chaos and from this Law was crafted in response. And the Twin Polar Opposites became afraid of each other - and so these Aspects strove towards Mastery. Lo! In all things the Sisters of Twin Polar Opposites were born and the Lights gravitated in constellations of thought - and so was born Otherness. Yet the Place of No Space and No Time was also beautiful. Comprised of an Infinity of Possibilities and ever changing formlessness. Yet as the Aspects conflicted, suddenly, Magical Power was created. By ordering thought - they also discovered that anything was possible. And each of them discovered a distinct kind of magic. At first, the basic elements were formed - heat, light, gravity, magnetism and electricity. And they marvelled - for now Light could create Light - and the Void was filled. Thus - the Stars were born. Stardust from Void. And Time and Space were sheared apart - so that they could bring Order to Disorder, Law from Chaos. But the Sisters of Chaos and Brothers of Evil were stirred to wrath and they devised ways of Ending and Scattering. For they sensed that without these things, The Void would be filled with Endless Sameness and an Eternity without Change. Thus they strove - bringing forth all their Lore to Create. And as the Twin Polar Opposites strove - they discovered the Higher Elements - Magic, the Planes and Divinity. And so Realmspace and the Multiverse were born. Where intersecting Planes of the Fifth Dimension and Beyond cast off to infinity - and where anything was possible and where paradox defined all Aspects of Nature. And lo! The world Coalesced into distinct but overlapping Aspects - and The Guild House was named as the Place where Lore is formed. They looked about and were glad - for from this turmoil of conflict - they had created something beautiful. They descending into the world - where beings of Chaos, Law, Good and Evil strive as Twin Polar Opposites. They had made a place of Great Magic. But a changing Magic. Where the Laws of Certainty are shifted by great discoveries, and where the Laboratories of Mages and Forges of the Swordsmiths form the Powers of world. Posters' Bill of Rights a. The Tools of Creation You can create game tools. You can build IC interactions within and across threads. You can build game tools in IC (In Character) mode to assist with the creative experience or OoC (Out of Character) mode if you prefer. You can change your game tools in any way you see fit. You can work collaboratively on Projects that require multiple threads coming together. You can work with as many other people as you like to promote the enrichment of the game environment, and you can lobby to change the game charter. You can petition game causes, events, gatherings, or interactions. b. Game Concepts, Rights and Privileges You can build "Within-Thread" or "Between-Thread" threads. Between-Thread threads are called confluence threads. These are threads designed specifically for orchestrating interactions between various Foundations and other threads. 1. Normal Threads You have full control over the "life" of your own thread and can define the thread "culture" the way you would like. You can have a Foundation in Isolation (an Isolationist Policy) or you are very welcome to be part of the broader thread community. 2. Confluence Threads These are a chance for you to really get involved in world building. Confluence threads (e.g. The Great Tomes, The Pit of Nine Hells, the Golympic Games, the Goscars=Games Oscars) are places where you can encourage people to interact). Other ideas I've had for Confluence Threads - The Great Agora, The War Council, The Diplomacy Council. And a whole bunch of Planes concepts and Deific concepts - a Pantheon of The Guild House thread. |

I don't think one big post for the members of all of the foundations would be a good idea. It would be full of "Joe Sumgy has just joined the So-and-So Foundation" posts, as well as the all-too-common "what's this for" 's. I'll do it, if you really want this to happen, but I just don't think it's practical. Like Fin said, each foundation should keep its own things together. We shouldn't have to do it for them. Fin, another thing to add to the FAQ: Q: Can I post at a foundation, even if I'm not a member? BTW, I think bringing back the dead foundations wasn't a good idea. If the leaders of those foundations are gone, there will be a power vacuum in those threads and flame wars could happen. Not feeling very IC-y now. Zollex :mage: |

| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 12:44 AM | Zollex! Great to see you! The Lists is just one idea. No problemo - there could be other kinds of Tome Lists - the library idea of Finwe's for example - is kinda like a Tomes thing - that organise themes differently. I'd love to see you thread-keeping some between threads ideas - and reckon you'd be great at it. - know whatya mean about the Foundation resurrection thing. But - I have every confidence that we'll get through the glitches. As the dust settles - we'll work it all out. Zollex stands and gestures to the Counsellors - as Aicanar, his familiar watches on. Many of the foundations arguably belong in another stack as well, but their existence in other stacks was causing friction. And constraints of other stacks was hampering creativity in the eyes of some. I look at the positive - in this area there is a new pool of potential members that otherwise may not have seen the foundations. And there are fewer constraints. And people elsewhere who are interested might be drawn here through links in members' signatures. |

I've joined a new IC thread - with Diplomatic (whose posts I love)and it's great.... Wait. Where's this IC thread? I'm not currently involved in one, unless you count the REALLY old CoA IC thread, which hasn't been posted on for months. It's kind of like the Korean war; it never technically ended, but it might as well have. If you're talking about Agudo's School of Light and Magic, I quit that some time back when Aravilar was kicked out of it. |
| kedi04-17-04, 02:04 AM | I have a few thins to point: a) Guilds FAQ: Never the faqs are enough. Make the thread avaible for posters to ask question not listed on the faq. b) Zollex and custblahblah of tomes: He had kept the members listing of half elf foundation, strategy foundation and COA. He'd do perfect. Plus, a thread would make people get to know each other. (IF the rooster could have some small things like e-mail adress, msn, aim, yim screennames etc. it'D be better) c) rules for creating a guild: You wouldn'T Like to see 2 half elves or 2 council of archmages foundation, would you? Do not allow copy guilds. For example, CoA exists for a long time, and it'S copy "casters of the arcane foundation" came along. purpose is the same, so why a second guild? d) a useless / Useful thread: A general "Guild" would be perfect. It'd possess the faw, it'D possess to guidelines, it'd possess general members listing, it'd work as a noticeboard and would be a place for people to come and say: "On x guild, we tried to discuss this out but couldn't met a conclusion. Can you help us?" plus, it'd be a place for useless chit-chat off topic conversations, thats how, the foundations would be spam-free. these were the ideas I had for a time. whatdya think? |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 02:32 AM | Diplomatic - crossed lines - there's a new thread at the Guild House - I forget its name - and it's a really good thread. Mixed you up with someone else. Kedster. Now that post really rocked. There are many fantastic ideas in your post. It's well organised and provides an excellent basis for thinking about The Guild House. Some thoughts: ...looks like some building of boundaries is what you're getting at. When is a thread the same as another one. And if yes, what do we do about it. As you suggest - to make the world vibrant, evolving and interesting, it's good to think about how new threads shape the landscape and what those threads might look like. |

| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 02:57 AM | As the Counsellors convene, the Great Wyrm - who is the Elf-Bane is seen approaching. The Counsellors look to each other as the ancient regal beast enters the chambers. For uncounted years the Elf-Bane has roamed the Cosmos. His presence a part of the very foundation of Realmspace. Some of the Elves present feel a disquieted - for his name 'Elf-Bane' was not founded on naught. He speaks - a barritone that speaks volumes. Silmarien studies her friend with warmth. When he is done she says "Alas Tenzhi - if only that which you say is true. Elf and Drow are as alike as day is to nigh. Perhaps part of the Whole as much as any other Aspect." she scans the room, catching Councellors' eyes and adds "but there is truth too in saying that each Aspect should co-exist by her neighbour". |

| Tenzhi04-17-04, 03:27 AM | The point that I was subtly trying to make is - who's to say whether or not a particular foundation is redundant? One person's redundancy is another's uniquity. |
| Finwe04-17-04, 11:07 AM | b) Zollex and custblahblah of tomes: He had kept the members listing of half elf foundation, strategy foundation and COA. He'd do perfect. | Tenzhi04-17-04, 08:40 PM | Originally posted by Finwe On elves and drow: if there can be a half elf foundation, why can't there be a drow foundation? Because, by virtue of the fact that half-elves are part human, they are actually a different race. Drow, however, are still elves through-and-through. They're no more different from the elf race than wood elves or sand elves or elvish subrace #127 (the one with the polyhedral ears). |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 10:10 PM | Originally posted by Finwe *ahem* Me, AoN and Sculy did the thread-keeping at the CoA, buster. ;) Nice ideas everyone. I think we might implement some in the near future, so keep 'em coming! G'day Finwe - Tenzh-man and Diplomatic - And Sculyblast. OK - some more thoughts. a. Subscription Threads There may be one or a few "subscription threads" - where newbies and oldies sign up. The idea is that these threads keep everyone in the loop, appraised and made aware of any new initiatives and ideas that may be brewing. b. The Game-Risk Threads A healthy and engaging campaign world ensures that players are subjected to "optimal game risk" and have their boundaries of the known universe challenged by game-play activities. I'd like to develop with you guyz, some ideas about how you'd like "risk" to work in our world. Some initial thoughts I've had: A "player-to-player" "Dual Zone" - where there are risks and rewards based on the outcome. Some of the rewards might be the acquisition of Divine Ranks, or Treasure(s). If Tenzhi has his Necropolis - then there might be risks to players based on this. Basically - you're character's fate is not a sure thing - and like D&D - things can happen. c. The Treasure Thread We can accumulate wealth - and there might be a between-player competition for wealth. Or - GM's can locate treasure in distinct "threads" with clues - and there might be competitions between "Factions" to get this wealth and magic. (e.g. The Elven Foundation versus Humans....etc). Tenzhi On "redundant" threads. We can't have, as Kedi has said - 100 threads of the one kind. But - we can carve up guidelines that have a "test" for "reasonable sameness". If the "sameness test" fails - the Thread needs renaming or closing. Having said that - a rich game weaves rivalries into the game structure. Everyone: DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS for the REASONABLE SAMENESS test? |
| Finwe04-17-04, 10:30 PM | For same-ness: If two foundations have like titles, they might be the same. However, if they tend to discuss things which are completely different (I.E. teh dark evels discuss the underdark and the elves discuss evermeet), then they should be separate threads. However, if the dark evels discussed how they deviated from the eveln bloodline and made rles for optional dark evles, etc, adn the elves discussed elven blood-lines and made MORE ( ) elven subraces, then the two threads should go together. Likewise, if they role-play in games that are close to eachother, then they should be the same. |
| Tenzhi04-17-04, 10:52 PM | Originally posted by Finwe (I.E. teh dark evels discuss the underdark and the elves discuss evermeet) In which case they should be The Underdark Foundation and The Evermeet Foundation, respectively. |

Thread Content. For 2), I'm curious about your thoughts on measuring "difference" by things like - distinct "alignment" differences (e.g. Kedi's Outlaws thread is chaotic, c.f. Paldin Thread - lawful). - distinct "cultural" differences. What are your thoughts about building "fun thread-rivalries and competitions - with prises for winning and costs for losing." A "points" system... Tenzh-mann - I've just got an incoming e-mail from you to say you've posted - but I've not read it yet. I'm about to hit the "submit reply"..... |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 11:10 PM | Originally posted by Tenzhi In which case they should be The Underdark Foundation and The Evermeet Foundation, respectively. hmmm, these are very broad level category names. I'm seeing differences of opinion about how "broad" versus "narrow" Foundation names should be. This one may end up in a poll. But - let's try to get people's thoughts about it. Under a "broader" basis for the Test of Sameness - we would have far fewer foundations and fewer options for new people to define foundations. Consequently, more of other kinds of threads. Under a "narrower" basis for the Test of Sameness - much more diversity on the kinds and nature of Foundations. But - less (proportionally) of other kinds of threads. There is no one answer here. The Underdark is a collection of races, cultures and elements - it is broader than Drow. It includes gnomes, kobolds, orcs, various monsters. Do all these things live on one thread - or on many? And what would you like. OK - also - once this thread is done - we're gunna have a number of items for voting on. The outcome of the votes determines the nature of the Game Charter. So - get workin' everyone on forming your ideas here. |
| Tenzhi04-17-04, 11:29 PM | Broad or narrow is fine, the problem is when you go too far one way or the other. The Everything Foundation would be too broad of a category. The Specific Variant of a Particular Class/Race/Skill Foundation is much too narrow. If you want to discuss variants of the Paladin, the Paladin Foundation is the place for it. If you want to discuss variants of the elf, the Elf foundation is the place for it. If you want to discuss underwater basketweaving, the Arts and Crafts foundation is the place for you. Creating the Paladins Who Smite Smurfs Instead of Evil Foundation, The Drow Foundation, or The Underwater Basketweavers Association is an exercise in micro-management-spawned redundancy. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-17-04, 11:43 PM | Originally posted by Tenzhi Broad or narrow is fine, the problem is when you go too far one way or the other. The Everything Foundation would be too broad of a category. true! So your test for Reasonable Sameness is one of content (class/race/skill...and I add /feat). For IC game purposes though - more diversity in "thread-culture" prolly adds richness to a campaign. It allows greater options for developing game plots and themes. I'd add that you can build threads that are specifically about "bringing together" several other threads for a common purpose. Also - I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Rewards, Celebrations and Risks. |
| Tenzhi04-18-04, 12:52 AM | Originally posted by Silmarien Aldalome Also - I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Rewards, Celebrations and Risks. Rewards? There's nothing really substantial* that can be given here other than friendship and ideas. *Note that I don't consider ephemeral things such as "bragging rights" to be substantial. Risks? In a free-form environment such as this, the only risks you face even IC are those you allow yourself to face… and they are only as risky as you allow them to be when you describe yourself facing them. So a question of how challenging the "game" is can only be answered individually on a case-by-case basis. And rather than celebrations it might be better to speak of contests. You could have both RP-based and creation-based contests around here, though the former would be a rather complex affair. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-18-04, 02:12 AM | Orcy doesn't really see how we can give you rewards and such. We don't have any ability to give custom avatars and/or custom titles. So there arent really rewards we can give. We aren't really any different from the rest of the posters except for a few things... there isnt much we can do in the way of rewards. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-18-04, 02:27 AM | Hello Orcy - good to see you. What about a Point System - with "RP standards" - or a "Combat Point System" from a "Colloseum" battle ground. And a Published List - sort of like your football ladder. Maybe threads could be like football teams - with a basis in competition. Points for winning and losing - DM'd - and possibly with dice rolls (see on-line dice-roller in sigs). Your Avatar could go through a series of "Trials" - much like a CD-Rom game one interacts with. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-18-04, 02:44 AM | Orcy really doesnt know about all the combat and such... isnt that what the one land was started for? As for points and such.. could you say... give examples or something? Orcy is good with the monitoring threads thing... but he isnt too great at setting stuff up. So help him out a bit here. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-18-04, 03:12 AM | sure can Orcy - here are some ideas. The Warrior's Colloseum The warriors enter the colloseum from opposing sides. For the Guild of Chaos - is a Half-Orc Barbarian Berserker, whose whole clan is depending on him to redeem them. He is attired in skins and around his neck the bones of felled enemies. In his hand, he carries a dark-bladed bastard sword and he grins at his opponent as he enters the ring. The Half-Orcs have sustained heavey casualties over the last weeks - and have lost first place to the Order of Elven Arcane Archers - a civilised group who continue to rise in power in the New World. Facing the Half-Orc - is a neatly dressed Elf, who is loading his bow and chanting quietly to himself. He raises his bow - and the Elves cheer him on. For he has raised the status of the Elves by defeating Grugash, the former First and Champion of the Colloseum. The Half-Orcs boo - as the Elf's sprightly feet dance on the colloseum floor.[i] OK - There might be: Points of IC RP - with clear standards set out in a thread. Points for actual damage - calculated by actual on-line rolls (see sig). Points for Character Development - Based on how the character was developed and written - how active he/she is in the thread community. - A "Treasure Allocation" Thread Sheet for success The amount of wealth in the New World, might directly affect what Threadkeepers can actually buy - in order to develop their Game Concepts. Thus - a Game Concept (e.g. new spell, new power) could get developed on threads - but you may need money and resources to develop it. Consquently, the winning of competitions becomes extremely important for accumulating "thread wealth and power". Other Foundations can work together - to depose another House - and share rewards amongst themselves. "Score Sheets" could record Game Outcomes. Games could be between or within class. So a Mage could dual a Warrior. But - there would be "real" risk involved in either winning or losing. Just one idea. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-18-04, 03:18 AM | Orcy thinks forcing a foundation to "compete" in anything to be able to devlop ideas is itself a horrible idea. That isnt what foundations are about, they shouldnt be limited like that. Not at all. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-18-04, 03:37 AM | just an idea Orcy.....hmmm, I shoulda said "ideas" are unlimited, but "building" them for actual "encounters" is different. And - also - not "compulsory" but "for fun and if you want" E.g. Half-Orcs have developed new Ritual Magic - but they need the Great Gem to power the new magic. They know that if they win the next heat at the Colloseum - they'll have enough money to actually make the new magic happen ....how does this sit guyz? I.e. sorta like building a "virtual economy" and interactive community. Think CD-ROM games - your favourite ones - and bring the ideas here - to help us out... stav |
| aravilar_holistacia04-18-04, 03:43 AM | Personally, Sil, I think you are trying to do too much, too fast. Allow these boards to grow a bit, to incubate, if you will, and then introduce new ideas to them. Creating the foundations for success and not having the materials to build upon it leads to disaster. Allowing the materials to coalesce and then building the temple allows your faithful to flourish. |
| Tenzhi04-18-04, 03:43 AM | Tenzhi agrees with Orcy. The whole point of Foundations is to have a place to freely toss around creative ideas regarding a particular subject - sans pressure, sans creative constraints. And on a sort-of-related note, nor should we make a fuss over whether any given post in a foundation is IC or OOC. It doesn't matter if a post is IC or OOC, the whole purpose is to communicate your ideas in the way that seems natural at the time - and if someone doesn't understand what a person is saying then they can thwack Sil a few times with a nerf bat until he makes sense again. ;) Harmless casual brainstorming in a friendly communal environment. That's all a foundation is. If any contests for the FORUM are organized they should remain wholly seperate from the inner workings of the individual Foundations. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder04-18-04, 03:43 AM | So Orcy could battle here to get the ritual magic to be allowed to be used by the DM, which I assume yer appointing yerself sil, or he could go to any of the other game forums and use it by pointing the link toward it? Orcy doesn't see a bit incentive there. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-18-04, 03:58 AM | Originally posted by Orcy The Green Wonder So Orcy could battle here to get the ritual magic to be allowed to be used by the DM, which I assume yer appointing yerself sil, or he could go to any of the other game forums and use it by pointing the link toward it? Orcy doesn't see a bit incentive there. To the bit before the bold-face: not "to be allowed" - but just like in real D&D - when you say to the group "I've had an idea for a new spell" - what happens? First - we write it up and discuss it - then - the players "make it happen" in "real-game" terms - which involves meeting shopkeepers, travelling - making trips to the Underdark...... To the boldface - no way dude - if we work out as a group we can work with this particular idea (or not) - and the "DM-ing" of such a forum - is any GM's role - or possibly - a thread keeper's role. We want to EMPOWER ALL THREADEEPERS to feel valued and to contribute to the world not just "in" their thread, but "beyond" their thread. To have real input over the outcomes. We need your ideas too - about what to build. Think "my favourite CD-ROM interactive" games - and think about how we could adapt those ideas here. A CD-Rom game doesn't have any "actual" rewards (i.e. money, etc) - but they are very rewarding. All we need to do - is work out how to construct a similar game-environment here - with our own ideas.......... The Colloseum - is only one such idea. |

I add - nothing is changed yet - and have said I think respecting wishes for changes is really important. Makes good sense. And - we've got some pressure to build upstrem. The "incubator" is right here - this thread. It's where you can create as you see fit. So - let's be clear here again - I'm putting out ideas only guyz. About "Foundations and pressure to perform". Agreed. A "game" isn't about pressure - but fun So - "think big" *everyone* - and use the thread to "play" with ideas. Again - you're favourite *fun* interactive CD-Roms. ..... stav |

There is one intricate difference between being a Drow and any other type of Elf. Other Elves share an inherent brotherhood. Only the Drow are universally hated. Everything about us is unique when compared to the other Elves. Besides, on a board such as this, where RP is accepted, do you truly expect Drow and other Elves to behave politely to one another? While there may be the taint of redudancy in "The Drow Foundation", it is more the failing of "The Elf Foundation" in that we Drow were never made to feel welcome there. The ironic part is that I lead the Drow Foundation and one couldn't tell that I'm the slightest bit Drow until I tell them so. Since my Foudation does seem to be more active than "The Elf Foundation", perhaps it is I who should rename his foundation to accommodate the other Elves. "The Drow and All Other Elves Foundation" maybe. |
| Zollex04-19-04, 08:59 PM | This is to Silmarien, but I'd like everyone to see it. In second grade, I was in a group of second- and third-grade students who were competing in a drama-type challenge. The challenge was to make up and act out a skit that was centered around a moving cart or wagon (I think that was it-my memory is a bit fuzzy about this part). After a few meetings, we got started on our project. One day, I showed up with the entire script written up and designs for the props. The entire thing was overly complex and overwhelming. I asked for ideas, and got blank stares. That day the group continued what they were doing, and my work was effectively thrown out. I had tried to do everything at once and by myself. It didn't work out too great. But now I'm glad I did do that. It taught me a few lessons. First off, don't try to do everything by yourself. Second, take your time and don't do everything at once. Third, sometimes it's better to listen than to speak. Sil, try listening to us (and we'll try not to scream at you). | aravilar_holistacia04-19-04, 09:33 PM | Originally posted by Zollex This is to Silmarien, but I'd like everyone to see it. We say that we need some time to "settle in" to the new boards--you should give it to us. It's quite imposing when you throw everything at us like this. The WizOs have given us time, and we want to use it. "Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast." Quoted for absolute truth. Sil, Zollex is absolutely right. I couldn't have said it better myself. |

Zollex :mage: Thanx Zollex - I don't have a problem with this. I apologise to you if the ideas felt like they were a "given". They're not. Ideas only - to be thought about - to "get the juices going" as it were. As you well know of me, - "consultation" is the core of how I work (your "consultation"="slow down"). As you also know "Foundation Freedom" is a core ideal that I respect. More haste less speed - it is a given my friend. But, good Zollex - there are many posters here - and they must post at their own rate. Kedi, for example, has already posted one great idea, and good Finwe - has prepared our FAQ sheet. Tenzhi has also made R&D suggestions. I am very grateful to them for their hard work and energy. We must remember these folk and others as well when we think about who "we" are. We're all different - and this thread is about exploring how we differ and how we will all work together. It's been a huge change - putting all these very different groups together, and I completely understand that this takes time settle in. I'm very NOT surprised that we've got some hot faces and concerns about things like what you've raised, and am actually quite grateful to you for taking the time to post your wisdom. As you've rightly pointed out - change takes time. It's not like this is a new forum - where we can just up and do stuff - there are people with histories and communties pre-existent. Many of them have different "thread cultures". So - what you're saying is no surprise to me. So - I fully respect that your freedom and wish to pursue your pace is yours to choose - but - will not be interfering with other posters who are pluggin' away at their own pace too. So - to summarise: I've received many comments and invitations from PM's - they all say quite different things. Many are cogratulatory, some are grizzles (but "yelling" isn't really how I took the grizzles). Bottom line - I hear you my friend - please - don't think that I haven't. But - at your own pace - bring your own ideas forwards. For Anglar Sil studies Anglar with some concern. She knows the Drow cannot stand Elves - and the very thought of sharing space with Drow is anathema to her. She thinks of the Underdark and its culture and says "yea! Verily - Drow and Elves are as night is to day! They will not live with us in the one place - yet we share the same world. |

| Tenzhi04-20-04, 05:01 AM | Originally posted by anglar "The Drow and All Other Elves Foundation" maybe. Given your own nature, that would be both fitting and amusingly ironic. As much as it would amuse me, however, I don't truly expect that it will happen. The division of Drow from Elves was a childish act of epic proportion, and as neither side has grown up (as a people) over uncounted milennia we certainly can't expect it to happen now. |

As for the desires for this board, I think we all want this board to be lively - this is our goal. (Well, there may be a few people that don't want it to be a success, but though I understand where they are coming from on their motives, I really don't agree with them ...) Thus, if anyone else has some ideas for this board to reach this goal (be lively), please share them. As for my off-topic comment, my apologies for it and I'll try to refrain from doing so in the future. Though one of the things that this board is off-hand comments and in-character comments, I guess this thread should not be the one of those locations. |

| WizO_Shadow04-21-04, 10:41 AM | Very good job on the discussions!! I have a few suggestions for overall grand-scheme upkeep: 1. Once a thread has hit 1000 posts, it really lags so I can easily (and I have done so before) locked it up so another one can start. If you go to the bottom of any thread it has a "printer friendly version" link and from there you can highlight and copy to word, adobe, whatever to archive that thread. This way no works can get lost in a prune. 2. I think 5 stickies should be the maximum (not minimum ). When you go to any board as a newcomer, the last thing you want to have to sift through is 5 threads of rules. By the time you get done, the idea you wanted to post is gone and you're left with a swirl of disappointment. Another thing I wanted to comment on was on page 3 (30th post area) about the WizO's trying to get rid of the foundations. It's exactly the opposite. If you do have a suggestion for bringing more traffic to this board, please do propose it. Catoblepas (See I can spell it right ;) ) put it in his sig and so shall I. That's a great way. Also word of mouth :). We're trying hard for a patron driven idea to come to a wonderful fruition. Let's keep up the good work!! Renee Shadow:angel: |

| bitnine04-22-04, 02:59 AM | Hm, I think I might have mentioned this before, but one thing that I think might be helpful is the use of (OOC) and (IC) tags in thread titles when someone wants to denote trying to elicit a particular type of response or discussion, when necessarily. Just so as to make it clear in certain occaisons as needed. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-22-04, 03:30 AM | Originally posted by bitnine Hm, I think I might have mentioned this before, but one thing that I think might be helpful is the use of (OOC) and (IC) tags in thread titles when someone wants to denote trying to elicit a particular type of response or discussion, when necessarily. Just so as to make it clear in certain occaisons as needed. G'day peoples - bitnine: The "tags" idea, me reckons is a good one. It would help people to know where they might like to post. It also seems easy to implement. I like it because it allows people with different standards to operate to their own style - which encourages a rich tapestry of diversity here. E.g. some Foundations may not want any IC. It would mean that you could see at a glance what a thread was about, without wading through all the opening posts. People do this at MotP. I'd wanna add an "OoC+IC-open" option (i.e. to quote Tenzhi for those who see a "post as a post"). - but what do the others think? We're trying hard for a patron driven idea to come to a wonderful fruition. Let's keep up the good work!! My warm thanx for the kindly worded encouragement. I've read your suggestions - and ta muchly for posting them. I'll look forwards to people's thoughts on them. I have every confidence that the initiative will be a success. It already is in may ways. And, there are many many ways we can work together to encourage posters to this zone (CoC-compliant ones) - and to attract them to it - to make it a compelling place to visit....trust your friendship networks - and see how it grows. Regards to you stav |

In most message boards this is a policy I could readily agree with (actually, I prefer having them locked after 500 posts ;) ), but it seems to me like it would disrupt the communal atmosphere of Foundation threads. However, I'm not a foundation threadkeeper and perhaps they would feel differently. |
| aravilar_holistacia04-22-04, 11:53 PM | I think that it might decrease the time new members must take to become familiar with the Foundations. Also, it saves our information so we don't have to look through fifty pages of work for something. Shadow: Good idea. :) |

Shadow: Good idea. :) It only saves it for those who bother to print it to a file - unless WotC wants to dedicate some webspace where we can link to archived stuff. And unless you can manage to edit it down to something manageable, you still would have umpteen pages/files to sift through. |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-25-04, 09:35 AM | I'm just dropping in to say that we're moving forwards. When I log on now - I'm seeing traffic, diversity, growth and change. - both old and new posters "cross-posting" across Foundations. People are seeing it as a tapestry of threads and a home. - a blossoming of diversity: the new Foundations have brought brand new ideas with a broader view of Foundations than before. Consequently, really cool things like a Forum "underground movement" (an IC thread), brand new ideas - Multiverse Fndn, Guilds, and fresh air. Where else could you see that here at WotC. It's all enriching the Guild forum environment with life. - a group of very generous posters - who're moving into new thread-realms. - a whole group of new posters - and more traffic than we've had for ages! How cool is that. Looking to your creative comments and ideas. Keep 'em comin'. regards stav |
| Silmarien Aldalome05-03-04, 08:25 AM | OK - first off hi everyone. A couple of things: - A really big thank-you to Orcy for producing the Compendium Thread. I reckon it should get stickied. - Next item - I respect the quiet on this particular thread - but we can't wait forever. I'll give it another five/six days - then I'm gunna start workin'. - Next a specific request. I'd like you all to think about what to put into The Charter (or something like it). Please Post your ideas and thoughts - it will be a sticky for new posters to read - so that they get an idea about the place. It's not a FAQ thread - but as much about flavour as anything else. If no ideas are incoming - well - the GM's will have to cut it as a trio. My personal hopes are that you will add your bit here. warm regards to everyone stav (W.Cat+W.Shadow - I reckon we need a wee bit of humour and off-topic stuff for this thread - to make it a bit homely - what do ya think?) |

| JackRipper05-11-04, 07:08 PM | First of all; I had been away since all the strict rules were applied to the foundations, and am delighted to see how things are once again flourishing thanks to you all, and as a reaction I for one decided to return to my once quite active status here on the dwarven foundation. Then, as was requested, I would be very interested in seeing at least some kind of competition between the foundation. As always, competition is healthy, and encourages people to improve, and thus let the creative works thrive more intensely. For example; imagine the dwarves planning on designing some kind of new warrior prc. They are slowly making progress, but what would be a better stimulance then an upcoming battle against the elves? New inspiration and renewed haste would be the result, for wouldn't it be cool to give that dwarven prc something cool against arrows, like a towershield proficiency feat etc? I think that is why it is not only for gaming interests why we should seriously consider some kind of competitive system around here. And this competitive system could likewise enhance the inter-foundation-relations, for it would encourage battles amongst each other, diplomacy, and possibly even trade..? And that is what we are trying to accomplish, isn't it? An inter-foundation community? So possibly we should set up this Warrior's Colloseum Sil came up with, and even more. Something like a point system could indeed be awesome too. Maybe it would be an idea, to somehow better be able to regulate this inter-foundation communication, to appoint ambassadors in each foundation, or gladiators, who will be responsible for their area of business. And of course I must stress that all of these are but ideas, as Sil stated before. These ideas can step by step be set into motion, not to fast for people to loose overview, but neither should we wait too long, in my opinion. |
| Silmarien Aldalome05-11-04, 09:57 PM | beautifully worded - I second this motion to "healthy-fun competition" between foundations. I'm up for a "fight" thing too (RP/Melee) What about the others - .....come on Orcy/Tenzhi/Anglar/Finwe/ .....people...... speak it! |
| anglar05-11-04, 10:28 PM | Though interesting, there are many inherent dangers to such a thing. Mainly that personal relationship here could, at the least, be perceived to sway some decisions. I mean, if I were in a contest against another and Sil cast a vote in my favor, it could be said that she did so only because I'm her husband. If she does not, it could be said that she only did so because she wanted to avoid being accused of favoring me. Delicate indeed would the judging have to be. Perhaps contests between the guilds could be held. No one who represents a specific guild at the time would be allowed to be a judge in the contest. I.E. We have a PrC contest. I enter a PrC to represent the Drow Foundation. In no way could I be involved in the judging for the sake of fairness. If Sil wanted a PrC from the Half-Elven Foundation to be represented, she'd either have to withdraw as a judge or let it be one created by another member of the foundation. An RP Thread? Hard to contain keep fair. |
| Silmarien Aldalome05-11-04, 11:59 PM | ....yes ang fair call - some people call it 'conflict of interest'. GM's (and any voter) must be counted on to be "objectionable" is the way it's put to us - when appropriate. So - of course - external voters are better for moments such as those. Having said that - "objective criteria" can be made to protect against conflict of interest. And - a "panel of voters" is one way to go.......I'd personally like to see volunteers on a "Judging Panel" for this..... What do you reckon? regards stav |
| JackRipper05-12-04, 09:40 AM | I would say that a jury could be comprised of one representative of all of the foundations that wish to join a particular contest, and none of them are allowed to vote for themselves. Of course, if this would be done, you might get some kind of strategic voting, but if this could be discouraged, and with the co-operation from all representatives, this shouldn't be a real problem. This kind of voting only has to apply on contests of best PrC designed etc., not for arena battles or the like. These could just be decided by the merciless dice. This way, I see no real problem for an honoust way to vote. Of course, there will always be the petiness, as I would really call it, of accusing someone for favouring some in a subjective manner. That is, in my opinion, the greatest lack of the democratic system, and if a solution would be possible, people would already came up with it before, I am sure. No need for us to think we can provide one now. Anyway, if we would want to prevent these accusations, wether right or wrong, we should let all participants, and thus voters, make some promise not to protest against the voting. Naturally, really obvious cases should be token seriously, but if there is no real evidence and only ungrounded suspicions, then there is no need to bother with these. I think the voting should not prove troublesome, as I am sure people on these boards that participate in the contests and in the voting are, in general, mature enough to handle these things correctly. |
| aravilar_holistacia05-13-04, 08:46 PM | Originally posted by anglar An RP Thread? Hard to contain keep fair. I can speak for the entire Council that the Council as a singular entity would almost definitely not participate in such a thread. |

I've been *extremely* busy fitting in the necessary work needed on the ground warming up the various threads, and doing a great deal of good, honest, enjoyable posting on a number of interesting threads. I will be developing and posting ideas here to be explored, reworked and developed into shape over the coming weeks. What I don't want to see is accusation, and mistrust in response. Instead, what I need from you, is the enjoyment that comes from re-shaping ideas, if you feel something needs to be reworked. Well noted. Anyway, if we would want to prevent these accusations, wether right or wrong, we should let all participants, and thus voters, make some promise not to protest against the voting. I think the voting should not prove troublesome, as I am sure people on these boards that participate in the contests and in the voting are, in general, mature enough to handle these things correctly. Nothing can stop the process of industrie but they can try. :tiphat: what about the Industry Foundation? Druides stand in the way of industry don't they? |
| Zollex05-30-04, 10:22 PM | Like Ouroboros said, it's best to avoid "I Hate This" or "This Sucks" foundations. I would also suggest avoiding masking a hate foundation with something like the suggestions in the posts above. For example, for the Industry Foundation: DON'T: We're for industrialization in D&D. That means chopping down forests, killing cute woodland creatures, and 'removing' the druids that protect him. DO: We're for industrialization in D&D. That means magic, planes, trains, and automobiles! Does anyone have any ideas on high-tech D&D? Besides, I don't think a Druid Killers' Foundation would survive too long. "DRUIDS SUCK!" "YEAH! I WANNA JOIN!" "Okay!" (After one week with no posts) "BUMP! Where is everyone?" "I dunno. BUMP!" "BUMP!" "BUMP!" "BUMP!" "BUMP!" And so on.... Zollex :mage: |
| Azer Firelord05-31-04, 05:20 AM | Check out this thread over at the RPG board meta board (do we fall under the 'RPG' umbrella, hmm, not sure). Anyway, it is about ideas for Uncon- lets have some fun things going on here at the guildhouse when it happens http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=3568912#post3568912  Now, Zollex, sure of course we don't want 'masking' like you say. What I was thinking though, is, say someone starts a 'Blighters foundation'. He may have bad intent, but because, as you so wisely demonstrate, no-one will post on that side, the posts will actually become focused on what to do with Blighters (the prestige class), and so it becomes a viable foundation. Just my thoughts. |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-03-04, 11:00 PM | OK first off - special thanx to all of you for your work. Azer - it's great to see your energy and enthusiasm. Now - onto business. Here are some of the first initiatives that I would like to see explored, and possibly implemented. 1. A Welcoming Hall Sticky. 2. A Nominations and Awards Thread. 3. A "Flavour & Shared Projects Sticky" - i.e. an "ueber Project, Project" for *everyone*. 4. Some really "stupid" threads. I mean this fondly and in the best sense. The most fun ones, can be about being silly. The Signatures Thread is a whole lot of fun. 5. A Competitions Thread - for all kinds of Between-Thread friendly competitions. 6. A Score-Tally Thread. 7. "Rotating" Sticky. For New/Inspired Communal Activities. Anyone can author a concept and it's a place to foster social interaction and shared activities. 8. Threads designed specifically for short life. These can be a lot of fun. Not more than five stickies. Also a pep talk. We all know that a thread that is posted that doesn't take off can be a personal challenge. I'd *strongly* encourage you not to take it hard in the event that an idea isn't run with. "If you first don't succeed, try, try again". I.e. Don't give up. Your comments and suggestions are invited and welcomed. Again - thanx everyone. A last word about my posting habbits. There are too many threads to tackle in a day. I "cycle" through them - and move around a lot. If you need assistance on your concept, or advice, feel free to PM me for assistance. Sincerely stav |

| Silmarien Aldalome06-04-04, 11:26 PM | Awards for initiatives, activity, fair play. A whole heap of things. Just think of it like Ucon. E.g. Most Energetic Role Player Yes "Foundation of the Month" is a *great* idea. Don't forget - it's for ***FUN*** - so there might good-natured ones, like "Poster Most Likely to get a :behold: from the Elf-Bane". Anyone can nominate anyone for something. The Goscars thread (or something like it) is about rewarding people for their efforts. My reading of the Guidelines for Guild House allows for Nominations, Rewards and Honours as permissible. It's about warm, friendly encouragement. Any questions, ideas, suggestions.... bring them on s t a v |
| Ouroboros06-05-04, 02:09 AM | What I was thinking of what about a list if the best of foundations. We bundle races, classes, prc's, monsters, templates. And send them to let's say Dragon magazine. It could make more of the boards know where we are and what it does. Agreed this plan could back fire we don't want to much people lurking about :P if it works at all (at least we must ask the owner of such a creation if he/she wants it into the bundle) |

And send them to let's say Dragon magazine. It could make more of the boards know where we are and what it does. Now you're onto it! These are some real incentives - and darned good reasons to work with the space we have here in the Forum to do something really engaging. I'm thinking that this sort of basis would attract yet more posters than we currently already do. It's a great idea Ouro... Agreed this plan could back fire we don't want to much people lurking about :P if it works at all (at least we must ask the owner of such a creation if he/she wants it into the bundle) A culture of trust and goodwill in our culture amongst the posters is protective for the initiatives we develop. Also - people will learn to tune into the 'vibe' of fun/reward for a "rewards and nominations" initiative - or a "goscars" thread. I wanted to publicly thank you for all the support and contributions you've made, Ouro. You've been great. *turns to all* That's not to, in any way, short change all the work of all of you. The list grows long of your great contributions. regards stav |
| Ouroboros06-05-04, 08:20 AM | What must be included are some damn good prc's Like Orcies Green wonder Prc's The most appealing Half-elf creation template (Your pick Sil) ect ect. Think with me guys and gals |
| Ouroboros06-06-04, 02:50 AM | foundation of the Month (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=3621861#post3621861) i have posted it what do you think? |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-06-04, 08:15 PM | I think it's a **great** idea. I'd like to see the thread Sticked - as part of a rotating series.... If there are no objections (and please try to see the merit in the idea of the initiative) - we'll contact WizO's in a day or two. I want you all to start thinking of other "rotating Sicky Concepts" and then, everyone can have a go! Please Enjoy Sil |
| Ouroboros06-07-04, 12:14 PM | :( I have a feeling it is ignored do... But we can only besure in a few weeks. It really needs its sticky |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-07-04, 08:53 PM | Done! The thread has been stickied - thanx W.Shadow for the prompt response. - Everyone - I've posted to Ouroborus's Sticky. Please join in. - Also - other initiatives for the Rotating Sticky are very welcome. regards stav |
| Tenzhi06-17-04, 01:32 AM | "Favortite"? Someone poke the mods and have them fix the typo in the board description... ;) |
| thasis06-21-04, 02:04 PM | So guys (and girls) a druid killer foundation is tottaly out of the question? Can't I break just one rule. One Anti foundation isn't going to kill the boards. |
| De Batavier06-24-04, 05:57 AM | thasis you have already two anti-foundations: good =anti-evil evil = anti-good ;) |
| WizO_Catoblepas06-24-04, 10:50 PM | Originally posted by thasis So guys (and girls) a druid killer foundation is tottaly out of the question? Can't I break just one rule. One Anti foundation isn't going to kill the boards. Nope, sorry. No anti-foundations on the boards. (that includes druid killer, anti-AD&D, anti-dragon, etc.) The problem is that they usually end up resulting in flame wars. As for the Good and the Evil foundations, I see them more as the promotion of their respective entities than the bane of their opposites. Hence, we'll let them go. :) |
| Finwe06-26-04, 09:25 PM | Or maybe just a foundation of cityuids? "Anti" foundations could, if creative, be a positive, rather than negative force on the boards. P.S. I am finally back (long story, but basicaly my internet connection was lost abruptly for almost two months). I am going to get right back on task now. |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-28-04, 07:41 AM | OK - Finwe - welcome back. Are you sure you're not a half-elf? All that wandering abroad and such is very half-elfy. That was a spicy way to return! I agree with you on the potential for anti-Foundations to really assist us. It's how these things are handled that counts. But - I think the potential gain of a change to the anti-Foundation standard isn't enough to fuss about it too much. So - I'm not concerned about the Standard. :) NOW - onto business. OK GM's and Posters - some changes to be introduced this week: 1. *This Thread* is to be unsticked - when the Thread Titled The Guild House Welcoming Halls appears! I will author that thread. I will post (next post) a suggested text for the Opening Post and would *welcome* your ideas for changes if you have them. So everyone - nearly time to wave goodbye to this thread and let it sail off into the blue yonder. 2. The Mythology Thread I posted way upstream - is to the Second Post of the Welcoming Halls 3. The Third Post, Immediately following, will be a Poster-Ethos post for the Welcoming Halls. This Ethos is not flavour and it is also *not* rules. It's about our social-context here. |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-28-04, 08:01 AM | What's this I see *A pair of friendly green eyes studies you - and they flare to life magically for just a moment* - hello there - you must be reading this because I'm writing to you! Which is why I am here with you to be sure. That makes you a curious Poster - the kind we like here and that means you've got everything you need to enjoy yourself here. Welcome! How to Use This Thread First of all - >>go Here<< if you want to know more about the Mythology of the world you've arrived at. >>Go Here<< to read more about the Ethos of The Guild House. And >>Go Here<< - where you'll find a Compendium of Guilds and Foundations where that you can join. And >>Go Here<< to find answers to your FAQs. Please feel free to post on this thread - where you can ask any kind of question you like about us - or about how you got here - and how to go about making your own Foundation. |
| Silmarien Aldalome06-28-04, 08:39 AM | The Guild House Ethos Rules can tell you how to behave, but what we have here is something more than just rules. Our Guilds are peopled by people - not posters. That means that you can expect more than just civility here to come your way. We want you to decide to become a part of what we have built here. That means that you can expect to be a part of a community of posters. Our Guilds and Foundations are a place to have fun while you enjoy other people's company. And our Foundations are founded on our Core Principles: Civility, Diplomacy and Harmony are prised commodities here, and we try to keep them safe and sound by showing you Respect and Mutuality. In this way, we exist in order to foster your Trust and treat you with Dignity. |
| Silmarien Aldalome07-02-04, 10:34 PM | Sil strikes the Runestaff on the Council Chamber Floors. The Pereldar Enjoin in a Song of Making. They propel a Warmth and Love into Unspace where the Great Spell ripples out to Infinity in the Invisible Spaces between Words. They Chant and Sing - first the One and then the Other - a chorus of Baritone, Tenor, Alto, MesoAlto and Suprano. Intertwined Harmony in Sharing. And as you close your eyes you the Music makes a great form that is more than the sum of the parts in the Song. There is a corruscation of Azure, and Silver as the Forces of Stardust resonate with magical radiance. She says "It Is Done. OK - time to say Farewell to this Thread. It's funny to say "it has served us while we have built here". Because, how can a thread be something that serves us? That's because Your Voices are on this Thread. And through their mingling in the many ways they we have all spoken - we have created Synergy here in real life. So it is that our Threads Link us together - across both time and space - literally. I return here to find your Voices on the threads - and it is always a source of great joy to me. Even though sometimes I want to scream at some of the things I read - I always end up seeing a little part of the *real you* behind the text. And that's the Humanity and the kindness of your personhood that is the compelling and humbling part. But by the greater portion and by far her - is your Goodwill that you have all flooded on our Threads. It is everywhere as is the amazing discoveries, thoughtuflness and energy you have energised the place with. If anyone of you for one moment thinks I haven't been deeply moved and deeply appreciative of your efforts - here's where you find out the truth - you're worth far more than that. And here's how I get that message back to you to express my gratitude. It's broader than that - because everyone benefits by your actions and so in this way, we are all both tiny specs and important all at once. So - in a very real way - our Mythology plays out in real life. First we Arrived, then we stormed and sparred, and then we Built and made some magic of our own. I dare you to tell me that life isn't grand - I wouln't believe you for a moment even if you did! So - here's my Farewell to this thread - but certainly not to the Readers and Subscribers. May you all enjoy yourselves. Remember - I am here for you! If you have any concerns, ideas or suggestions, either PM me or The Pit of Nine Hells Thread is a non-stickied Thread for posting here about matters that you wish to discuss and that affect us. It's on one of the other pages - but never far away. My warmest regards to all of you. WIZO CAT AND WIZO SHADOW - CAN YOU UNSTICKY THIS THREAD AND STICKY THE WELCOMING HALL. TO ALL!!! IF YOU THINK THERE'S CHANGE NEEDED TO THE WELCOMING HALL EITHER POST TO PIT OF NINE HELLS OR PM ME YOUR FEEDBACK IS EVER-WELCOME WHEN WORDED DIPLOMATICALLY AND CONSTRUCTIVELY Stav |
