Welcome to...
http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/thegnomefoundation.txt

Although I have much to say about this wonderful race, their similarity to hobbits, 3e vs. 3.5, favored class, etc., this first post is no place.

This thread is for gnome-related:
discussion stat suggestions comments
contructive criticism gnome characters & character concepts stories about playing gnomes celebrating the greatness of the race :P everything else I forgot!
As kiwidoc once said, "Gnome lovers of the world unite!"

There was no Gnome Foundation on the old Boards. However, there was long live the gnomes (http://archivedboards.wizards.com/rpg-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=111;t=003 082). (If the link doesn't work, it's probably because the old Boards have been deleted. In that case, try this link (http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/longlivethegnomes.htm).

I will update this post as new members join. There is no need to post the entire list all throughout the thread. For now, there will be no member numbers, because certain people have reserved places and I don't know who wants to be in the Foundation. I have PMed all of them. I'm pretty sure the ones with the asterisks (*) want to join, but I gave the others rights to a slot too.

Hrmm, looks like someone finally stepped up to the plate and created the Gnome Foundation. You were right to assume that I'd tag me name to such an organization.

I love playing Gnomes, whether I'm DMing Dragonlance with the best (worst?) examples of 'Tinker Gnome' Mad Scientists: blow-up-half-a-continent-with-a-tricked-out-can-opener, or if I'm playing my down to earth happy go lucky Dire Badger riding Druid in Forgotten Realms. For that matter there's also my sneaky-sneaky Gnome Cleric of Baravor Cloakshadow, or even my absent minded Gnome Illusionist.

They call Gnomes the 'Forgotten Folk,' regaurdless of the setting they tend to keep to themselves, and are always contriditions. They love nature, particularly burrowing animals they share a special kinship with... their towns and cities are built into the natural landscape in such away you'd never know they were there they are in such harmony... if it wasn't for the occasional explosion from an over enthusiastic Alchemist, or the laughter and merryment from a Gnome party, which easily rivals that of any Dwarven one.

Gnomes are Tricksters,
Gnomes are Scholars,
Gnomes are Magical,
Gnomes are Scientific,
Gnomes are Craftsmen,
Gnomes are Workmen,
Gnomes are... Gnomes.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

"Ask someone what a Gnome is and they might say 'They're like Dwarves, but not as gruff,' others might say 'They're like Elves but not as prissy', ask a Gnome what he is and he'll tell you, 'We're just like you only smarter and better looking." -Dragon #291, the Gnome issue.

Gnomes are my favorite race, I'm not sure WHY though...there's just something about them that I love. Thanks to 3.5E I actually WANT to play a bard, with possibly some gnomish-ness mixed in. O.o

At any rate, gnomes are great and I really, REALLY enjoy the new take on them since D&D 3E.

Jez'miz'nii walks up to the podium and sets down a number of papers. Clearing her throat she taps on the microphone.

"Hello, hello, is this thing on? Yes, good..."

She swats the papers aside in a flurry of flattened wood pulp, "DEATH TO THE GNOMES!"

"This concludes the press release from the Kobold Foundation, good day."

She straightens her dress as she steps from the podium with a smirk.

I was wondering when the lizard dogs... er Kobolds would do that. Can't say I'm surprised as I've read their various threads on Anti-Gnome spells and other things.

Not that I have anything particularly against Kobolds mind you. Heck in Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide my favorite Henchmen was Deekin the Kobold Bard... never mind the fact that before he joined my side I slaughtered his enitre Kobold colony and never told him about it... but I digress.

Hate not the Kobolds, I say. This declaration is just another example of why our kind has to be so good at killing them, they just can't leave well enough alone. Let them howl at the gates, or yip rather, pay them no mind. From dragons they claim to descend, and lay claim to a great magical tradition, tis true... but I ask you, "Which race is inherently magical?" Well the answer is, of course, us.

Though perhaps I misspeak, though it is my personal belief that Kobolds hold a jealousy for our magical nature, such as it is, I must not forget history. Long has Kurtulmak, God of the Kobolds, held a grudge against our father Garl for a harmless prank. Ok so The Sparkling Wit brought a few tons of earth down on Kurtulmak's head... he dug himself out didn't he?

That's the problem with Kobolds really they can't take a joke.

Is there anyone who doesent like how gnomes have become since 3E. I mean i just dont like how the shy nature loving, big nosed small folk are now tinkering merchants who go around selling their wares.

I dont have 3.5, but the fact that the illusionist is no longer their favored class furthers them even more from their initial roots.

I dont know if the secomd part of my post belooongs here - but i have similiar complaints of about the halflings.

I once ran a now retired gnome who went by the name of Schlomo Steinbeisser. That translates to something like Rocky Rockgnawler. He was a thief/illusionist and a little reckless. A lot of our party's adventures revolved around getting him out of trouble and he made always for a great adventure hook. Curious by nature, a prankster by heart he was second to none in stirring up trouble and saving the day when all seemed lost. When there was a rackus somewhere to be heard everybody would be on his toes asking "say, anybody seen the gnome?". The only thing worse than that was, when nothing was heard at all ("scary" as the ranger put it once). They tried to put some permanent surveilance on him, but alas he was a thief/illusionist. Eventualy they gave up on the surveilance thingy and focused on damage control. Sounds like they hated the gnome, right? No, they didn't. It was their gnome and nobody had the right to speak ill of him except the party. He was the heart of the group and on some occasions the brain too. He was the glue that kept them together, making sure nobody got left behind or treated unfair. Lifting their spirits whenever the odds were against them and remembered as every partymembers best friend. A gnome he was and only a gnome could have done it. Psychiatrist, trusted friend, magician, entertainer and a pain in the ass.

I've never since played a gnome as I felt none could live up to the expectations. But now with 3d and 3.5 edition out and living on the other side of the earthball I might just give it a try again. ;)

I just assumed you wanted to join, Tenzhi ... JK, I know you're morally opposed to foundations. :P

It's okay, Gellion! I'm in the process of writing T1nkr Knome, a parody of the Avril Lavigne song Sk8ter Boi. :D And please, no killing. Perhaps you and JackRipper should go to FM/MVA (Foundation Members/Murder Victims Anonymous). JackRipper was killed by a drow assassin. That's why we're declaring war on the drow! The Gnome Foundation is too young to start a war, so don't go intimidating kobolds and stuff, people.

Hmm. I don't like 3.5 in general. It was odd having a favored class that wasn't even a real class. I had always thought gnome bards were cool.
Nived

10-05-03, 01:52 AM
Tinker Gnomes can be great NPCs, but I'd shy away from having them as PCs. In my Dragonlance campaign no one has expessed a desire to play a Gnome... although I would let someone play one if they asked. So long as there wasn't also a Kender in the group at the same time, hey I'm accomidating... not crazy.

That being said with a Tinker Gnome you can have a Gnome Bard with an electric guitar. I mean all you would need is a Shocker Lizard... or a Shocking Weapon that can be built into the amp. Then it's just a matter of surge protectors and engineering :)
jinat

10-05-03, 02:56 AM

..that is if you have an amp, till then why not build it into the guitar. It makes for a good anti theft device or even hairstyle. And it still be an electric guitar.
And surge protectors are so lame as any tinkerer can tell you. They are just for people who are affraid of new experiences and don't trust their own inventions.:D :D

I assume you want to join, jinat - what about you, drachentoeter?

You know, everyone equates hobbits and halflings, but a hobbit is more of a cross between halflings and gnomes. Hobbits are mostly gnome, with a touch of physical halfling-ness (for example, +2 Dex instead of +2 Con). So, if we say hobbits and gnomes are very similar, we can apply that to the tinker gnome idea. Okay, jinat wants gnomes to be "reclusive little folk that are attuned to nature - not science." Hobbits aren't apt to machines, but they are handy with tools (not an exact quote).

I made up a magic item called an apparatus of electricity. It's a box of clockwork with a rod sticking out of the side and a little lightning bolt figurine on top. You deal it a certain amount of electricity damage (or twice the amount in fire damage), and the rod rotates.

As founder of the Half-Orcs foundation I wish to say one thing. LONG LIVE THE GNOME HALF-ORC ALIANCE!!!!!!!!!!! I shall not join your foundation but will lurk around like Sword Master does on our board. Gnomes are definatly my second favorite Race. The way they see the world is just so damm cool. Mischevious but not malicous, nature loving but still liking a little technology, magic loving but not above kicking some serious ass. I've actually thought of quite afew half-orc characters who would have been raised by gnomes. After all Gnomes are tolerant, and are the last race who would abandon a little Half-Orcs babay to die.
Still I think 3.5 way over powered them. Anyone who thought the 3.0 verstion was underpowered is totally certifiable, it had just the right mixture of coolness and balance.

See yah'll

They added the DC for illustion spells and gave them the gnome hooked hammer as a martial weapon without taking anything away. Gnomes where allready a powrful race with their spells, attack bonouses againts humanoids, bonous to saves against illustions, and various flavorful skill bonouses. They didn't need any more. Your right also that the Half-Orc got shafted, but I personally beleive that if 3.5 stays the same, all we need is +2 to imtimidate and mabe no favored class and we are even. But that is of course off topic.:D
SwordMaster

10-10-03, 06:49 PM
We all agree that 3.5 slighted half-orcs. Actally, I don't think they're that much worse than in 3e. But that's a discussion for their foundation (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44709). :)

such as little badly made pistols that work of magnets instead of gunpowder that only gnomes can be profecient in. Well, if you got 2 opposing armies it's called a battle.

If you got one army and kobolds it's called hunt.

Chances are a hunting party the size of an army won't catch much, besides where is the challenge in that? Digging under every rock, to see wheter a mini-lizzard is hiding under it, just gets boring.

When creating this gnomish community i wanted to steer away from the gnome model found in the Dragonlance novels. While humorous at time, I felt the eccentric, bumbling, tinker image the books were betraying was not what i was striving for. This is why I decided to make 2 distinct types of gnomes in my world - the tinker gnomes and the forest gnomes.

The Tinker gnomes are very much at home in human communities where they can experiment with materials of all kinds. They are constantly endevouring to manufacture new technology such as spinning wheels, mills, clocks, transports and even constructs.

The Forest gnomes in my world as much a part of the 'woodlands' as the 'rocklands'. They usually live in forested hills or valleys. They seek to protect and nuture their homelands and have a deep afinity with nature. Powerful Forest gnomes have a natural ability to turn into burrowing animals. Gems are valued for their beauty and little spiders seen as good luck. They often ally themselves with elves who share manner of their perspectives.

This is an example of a Forest gnome village -

Glimnar is hidden deep within the tree blanketed hills of an ancient forest. The gnome village is built in and around a truely monumental tree which is covered year round in magnificent red and orange leaves. The Glim (or 'Autumn' in common) tree's trunk is hollowed and thousands of years ago the forest gnomes chose to build homes within its massive bow. Great stairs ascend the trunk and it is spotted with hundreds of windows. Other great oak trees surround the Autumn Tree in which gnomes also use as homes. The majority of their fine establishments are found beneath the surface nestled amidst the roots.

Glimnar appears completely unseen to the uninvited, shrouded in illusion. Mundane magical detection is useless in determining its location. The very forest in rests within seems alive. The trees move unseen to misdirect traveler, creating roads and paths away from Glimnar. The winds carries strange whispers of songs which are disconcerting and confusing to seekers of the settlement. Friends and allies are awarded Glimleaves by the forest gnomes which act both as map, and a way through the magical and natural hurdles to the beautiful little town.

Once ever month, trusted merchants of differing races arrive in Glimnar to sell and buy wares. Wagons, stalls and makeshift shops are arranged under the shade of the great Glim and this is how the term 'Shadeday' was first used.

A select group of gnomish wizards watch over the small community, striving to protect their people. The Mists live at the top of the great tree and are eternally vidulant. Every year, on midsummer solace, the Mists rise to the zenith of the tree and raise their Glimstaves high to catch the cold light of the moon and the warth of the sun at once, to power their magic.
Smeagol_Princess

10-22-03, 05:33 AM
personally i like any short type race! Right now I have a gnome magic user that predominantly uses spells of illusion if the situation allows. She also likes to use wands and staves. In fact, she accidently turned herself into stone with her wand of wonders when a creature bounced her flesh to stone spell back at her!
Then later she got lost in a bag of holding. she was dead so they stuffed her in a bag of holding. then they lost it when they were captured by orcs! she was mia for at least six months until they gound all their stuff again in black markets shops in an evil city. they still haven't discovered that she's been replaced with a chaotic evil clone. It's fun subotaging the group!!:D

Good idea, drachentoeter ... and if they find us out, we tell them that you're allowed to and give them some oil of slipperyness. The contest rules will be that you lose if you can't bring the mug to your lips without spilling - the magic oil will take care of that.

Honestly, I've never wanted to play a gnome before, but I thought it might be cute to make a tiny forrest gnome in 3.5.

She's probably the least combat effective character I've had in a long time, but I LOVE her. She's small even for a forrest gnome and she has a 44lb racoon familiar named Riki Tiki. The other characters carry her around like she's a doll or she rides around on her racoon. Her first religious festival is coming up soon. Who wouldn't like a 2' tall character pelting them with acorns every full moon?? ^-^

Finding my little forrest gnome was like having my 2nd ed pixie back without the exp penalties. It's great.

What is the differences between a tinker gnome and a forest gnome in 3.5 ed?
I saw something written up in a Dragon Mag about them but what does the new ed say about them?

Acorn pelting is part of a religious ritual she has to take part in every full moon.

I don't know what a tinker gnome is exactly so I couldn't tell you what the difference between that and a forest gnome is. All my books are locked in my boyfriend's dad's car right now so I'll post the stats up later if you like. ^-^

To all members of the Dwarven Foundation:

The Harper Foundation is searching for Those Who Harp to join as the Foundation's High Harpers.

Silmarien Aldalome is now the fifth High Harper.

There are only five High Harper positions left. I will now limit the applicants to the leaders of the foundations of the races because we need to have a good representation of the peoples of the Realms.

The standings are now as follows:

#00001 Taeleraed_Saahdel (currently has not replied)
#00002 Aravilar_Holistacia
#00003 Gellion
#00004 Mr. Waesel
#00005 Silmarien Aldalome

After I have consolidated the High Harpers, I will be accepting Harpers to the foundation.

My sincere apologies for the blaspheme in my previous post. I had copied the post from another board (dwarven) and had an my haste forgotten to change the racial denotation.

please excuse my mistake, and please do not regard this when you decide to join the Harper Foundation.

PS: To the leader of the Gnome Foundation:

You have been reserved a place on the High Harpers' council on the Harper Foundation board. Please post to the board to consolidate this invitation.

Now I have a question diminutive masters of illusion. Silent image is a figment, and can be nearly freely used to create virtually any sort of illusion imaginable correct? However in the PHB it states that Figments cannot make something look like something else. Does this mean I cannot alter my surroundings in any serious way? Thus I cannot make a sapling look like a fully grown oak, or make my party look like a group of bugbears to sneak into their camp. Since I can't change the appearance of anything, what can I do with the illusion?
Reney

11-04-03, 06:06 PM
Silent Image

This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.

PHB 3.5

I don't understand why you couldn't do the things you mentioned.
Xavim

11-04-03, 06:11 PM
It states in the magic chapter that you cannot make figments make something look like something else. Which in my mind sort of counters the whole point of the spell.

I guess he means svirfneblin, however my cousin is from waterdeep and not from down below. And the so called attack on the half orc foundation is 1 (in words: one) drow saying halforcs mean nothing to him. Sounds about right though and I would believe he's telling the truth. I'm still shakin with fear about this cruel attack on the poor helpless halforc foundation. Who's gonna be next? Just imagine a drow in the middle of this foundation and he tells you straight to the face "I don't like blueberry pies" or "children's birthdays". You guys better send out your best men to the half orc foundation to stop it while you can.

Fellow Gnomes:

I wonder if any of the others of you have considered the implications of the similarities between the our own race and that of the Kobolds. Distasteful though it may seem to speak of it, the coincidences seem too common for there to not be a deeper cause for the enemity between our people than some collapsed caves. Consider this:

Both races are
-short
-cunning
-innately magical
-inhabit similar areas

With all these similarities, why are these people such enemies. Are Kobolds really evil, or has the world screwed them over? Basicaly just random thoughts about Kobolds, I think I'm tired.

By that reasoning a dog is very similar to a cat. I don't know where you're going with this, but I don't see the kobolds as the poor misunderstood distant cousins (yuk) of gnomes. They're spineless coldblooded evildoers with no sense of humor. Besides kobolds are cunning and gnomes are smart, hope you see the difference. :mage:

1 Name: Derwoban Orruzor (hey, it's your name, not mine :P)

2 History: You were born and raised in a small village called <insert name here>. When you were 26 years old, your parents (who you still lived with, being still in your tweens and all) decided to move out into the middle of nowhere.
After a few years with only animals and plants for neighbours, you decided to set out and find your glory in the big cities.

You weren't always welcome there, though, and sometimes you had to resort to rather shady ways to survive. With your skills, you've worked your way up in the ranks of those on the other side of the law, but this isn't the life you had intended for yourself, so when you meet a rather strange company in the tavern where you always come, you decide to tag along.

(you make up something for the wizard part :), if you already have that at the start of the game)

3 Classes:
- Rogue
- Rogue
- Wizard
- Wizard
- Wizard

I suggest chaotic alignment, and wizard spells that support the rogue skills.
High intelligence, avg strength, high charisma. Dexterity might be nice, but remember you don't have to play a halfling.
As for feats, Craft Wondrous Item is nice; you already get Scribe Scroll; Dodge and Improved Initiative are cool. Later on, you may want Silent Spell.
Weapon finesse is probably a waste, since you don't want to melee anyway. Spell focus is unlikely, since you'll be using mostly buffing and defensive spells.
You might want to go for an arcane trickster, but you don't have to.

To: Faerun weapons’ masters

In the dark time ahead that we will face together as good peoples, it is the warriors, knights, and weapons masters that will be our front line against the forces of evil. Their blades, staves, and arrows will be meaningless without, valor, bravery, and good moral judgment.
In the light of this I am creating a martial school in the backyard of Thay to fight the evils of Faerun. I am also calling on representatives of all of the good deities of Faerun who specialize in combat, tactics, martial prowess, self-perfection, honor, defense, war, and combat knowledge to come and represent the best qualities of your faith, and have a voice in how this school will conduct its defense of, and offense for the good peoples of Faerun.
I am calling on Dwarven, Elven, Gnomish, Halfling, and Human representatives to come together for a singular purpose, with similar abilities, and without racial prejudice. This school will not turn away a good hearted individual on the basis of race, be he or her, human, drow, half-orc, or any other. To me purity of heart and deed are more important than historical racial prejudices.
Disputes between represented faiths will not be tolerated. If you cannot abide by these simple rules, please send another of your faith. This is your opportunity to show to the rest of your faith and your deity, why you have chosen your life’s path, and also to exemplify a follower of your chosen deity.
There will be thirteen represented faiths. The list includes:
Clangeddin Silverbeard, Haela Brightaxe, Corellon Larethian, Eilistraee, Gaerdal Ironhand, Avoreen, Anhur, Helm, Lathander, Oghma, The Red Knight, Tempus, and Tyr.
Our school is in need of instructors who want and opportunity to affect life outside of their normal arena. We are looking for warriors, paladins, clerics, monks, and rangers, whom have chosen a specific fighting style and mastered it. You may come yourself or send a representative. Your sect is the first of your faith to receive such a letter from me. Should you decline I will be sending letters to other sects of your faith to give them this opportunity. My intent is to have the best. If you know of someone that you think will be interested in this opportunity, please forward this letter to him or her.
Our training grounds are being built in Escalant on the Wizard’s Reach, in the southern portion of the Aglarond peninsula, on the northeast shore of the Sea of Falling Stars. The earliest representatives to answer this call will be involved with the planning, and strategic, and tactical build-out of our school. The name of our school is Swordpoint.
There is only room enough for one representative per faith.

May you find this letter with a good heart, and open eyes.

Swift Journey,
Thayde Rythylaynne

First I'd like to join your foundation

and secondly to tell you a short story of him(Omkap),a retired from public life gnome, now settled in a hole of his own, deep in the forest of Myrnong, far away from his initial homeplace.

-Kocmine:Stealing an old man in the forest?Piece of cake!A common knife could do...

Trully,in the face of the dagger(for his size),old man Omkap was eager to spare the robber the few coins he carried in his pockets.Though the guy seemed to look for something more....

-Omkap:M...M...My ring......m..maybe?my ring!here!take it!Golden masterpiece,real kalore (a precious metal in my world) adorned!It's worth at least 50 crowns!(gp)

-Kocmine:I don't think so old man,my brotha met you three days ago and asked you for your missle-wand,kinda costly bargain you made, didn't you?

-Omkap:Unlikely!That guy tried it for 3000 and I couln't sell it for less than 4!Do you know how long I'd been working on it?(the robber seems to calm down)

-Kocmine:I know,I know...That's why I'm here old man, been waiting you since morning!Where have you been all that time?

-Omkap:How did you know I was gonna pass?Look...here's your last chance!I give you my ring and you let me go!...look at it...made by the Onidds(a gemcutter family)

-Kocmine:I don't want your rings old man!...just give me that damn wand and put an end to this bargain!...you'll take me to your hole!

-Omkap:mmmfffff.....the wand and you're gone,deal?

-Kocmine:The wand and I'm gone.

-Omkap: (That's when I miss old Worysilk, given a shout,Konvo would turn this guy to dust in a second!)

"As a matter of fact...Omkap's hole was so deeply hidden in the forest, even the druids forgot it existed, but luck may hadn't"

 one hour later...

-Kocmine:And be carefull not to try any of your :censored: tricks or I'll cut you throat!

-Omkap: (Manyx waited for me as usual sleeping among the hundreds of scattered papers but by the time I walked in he rushed to welcome me....for his amazement...)

-Manyx:Who's that guy holding you??!!And what's that thing he's puttin' on your neck??!!

-Kocmine:Kocmine my name is and your master owes me something...so stay away from my feet 'cause it's child's play killing a CAT instead of him!Ha!

-Omkap:We agreed you take what you want.Just don't harm us and in 30'' you'll have what you've asked for. (Beside the door, through some flower-pots,my glance dropped on some kind of scroll I was writing yesterday but did not finish.I could hardly make out what was written on it and even harder to recall which spell...this guy standing before me I just pretended looking for the wand while my eye was stuck on that very scroll. How could it possibly end in this flower pot?!)
"Something really common for Omkap's hole as the whole of it was full of a huge mass of books, papers and receptacles and to the worst of it...Manyx never tidied up but rather kept rolling in them"

-Omkap:"It was just impossible to discern what the scroll said so...among my words with the robber I spoke some devious ones just in case something of my handy spells triggered...letting him stealing my wand so easily?..no way!...
The result was but unseen of!My hands dispatched from my arms and turned into a whitish-transparent look! The man stumbled screaming with pain and by the time I turned to look at him those hands had grabbed him by the neck while my real ones seemed right in their place! The man dropped on the floor groaning while his dagger had fallen from his hand.He looked like being strangled but I hesitated no more!I grabbed my wand (which stood inside my cap) and shouted:" Mislle wand is what you want?!...missle wand you take :censored: !
"Four strikes at once would have killed any poor thief who tried dealing with me,yet this guy endured, and as he was fighting off death I charged him once more.
At last he was quiet , these strange hands gone!" What have I done?...cool Manyx don't you think?

First lemme say, sign me up to this foundation! I'm a long time Gnome fan!

I have a new character concept (if I ever get to play because I DM my group, and I can't find another game...) For a Gnome Bard. He has Perform (Dance)!!! Who wants to play a harp, when you can Irish Stepdance! I can just see him now, fists on hips, tapping away, and all who see this dancing Gnome are suddenly More Confident!

Please sign me up!

I'm currently playing a Gnome Wizard Illusionist (yes, surprise)...and I specialized in Illusions. Now, for all of you that have played a Gnome Illusionist, I would greatly appreciate ALL advice and ideas on what kind of spells and pranks you did. :smirk:

Zookland is now a 2nd level Illusionist...he's very inquisitive and loves practical jokes. He's REALLY short, 2' 3", and doesn't mind the short jokes, actually loves to hear some good ones...which the party definitely enjoys telling him.

SO: I'm asking all you Gnome experts for your advice and types of jokes you have done with your illusions...how did you play your Gnome...etc. I do NOT want an annoying character, I play him to be very outgoing and inquisitive. But not to the point where it will put the party into danger...at least not yet. :smirk:

Thank you in advance!!

When I was a Gnome Illusionist about your level the two funnest illusion spells at your disposal was a cantrip spell called 'ghost sounds', and a 1st level spell called, 'Disguise Self'. If you're ROLE-playing, those spells can have great in-game effects. I love illusionists............................ ..

OOooooh I have a soft spot in my heart for gnomes. in fact, as soon as I find a DM who will let me I am going to make a gnomish
wizard/artificer/techsmith.

<<FYI, Artificer is in Magic of Faerun, and Techsmith is in Faith & Pantheons. If I Remember Correctly>>

I will build a gondsman, and a golem. maybe even let me have a warforged as a cohort.

ooooooh gnomes are groovy

Welcome, Kyle Weirlodden, Orzo Burrowarden, Gunslinging Gnome, mordrath, Orguth the Brawler, Thermanshs, Tattered Master, cambric, jeff, and TansinBane2544!

That's two visits from half-orcs, including one member. Wow...

Interesting story, Thermanshs. Old gnomes remind me of bodachs (not D&D bodaks!).

Nice character concepts, everyone! Tattered Master, my first and primary character is a CG dwarven wizard. He wears a kilt and likes to dance like that. :D He also is famous with ghost sounds.

Thayde Rythylaynne, the Gnome Foundation pledges alliegance to your cause, but I do not know of any representatives willing to join you (yet). :)

I have compiled a sort of list of the characters people have mentioned...I think it would be kind of fun to have a big catologue of gnome characters...

http://boards1.wizards.com/images/icons/icon1.gif Gnome homes!
They live in burrows, according to the PHB. By definition, gnomes live underground. Hobbits also live in burrows (hobbit-holes). What do you have to say about the homes of gnomes? What are they like? How much family would typically live with a gnome? Are their homes in little villages? What do gnomes in cities do?

Hrm, I supose I never specified who was who when I would talk about my various Gnome PCs, in the past refering to them by class.

Well Nived Devril, my first Gnomish character, and my favorite PC of all time in any system, was a Druid in the Realms. Used to ride into battle on his Dire Badger 'Spiney'. Nived did it all, rescued a Nymph and cleared the land of a magic absorbing blight. Fought and destroyed the horror that was the undead cooked turkey 'Mr. Jiggleneck'. Battled legions of cloned Ogre at the seige of Stonecutter. Stood alone and slew the Red Wyrm Keryshid (thanks to 3.0 Harm's brokeness). Savior of the villiage of Stonesthrow. He of the battlecry "Taste salty Gnomish death!" The only PC I ever played to high levels and had happily retire.

Atolm Renz, The Gnome Illusionist. His exploits unfortunatly didn't run long, however in his short campaigning career his general cowardice and frantic battle tactics left me many amusing tales to tell. Atolm and the Mirrored Dungeon is a personal favorite.

Daggerfoot 'Dag' Dunn, quickfingered "Scout" (Rogue, he just prefers to be called a Scout) in the Kings employ. He and his rag tag group got drafted by the king to discover who was the real mind behind the Hobgoblin invasion into his lands. Dag spends most of his time trying to keep the gung ho paladin and the warrior Cleric from marching straight into everything they come across and getting themselves killed. Dag's a knife freak and has as many as Gnomishly possible strapped to various places on his body. Still in the early stages of the Campaign I have a lot of hope for Dag.

Tabular Magmus Thunderpuck XII Is a town dwelling Gnome. Six generations back his great great great great great Grand Father Tabular Magmus Thunderpuck VI along with his family left the gnomish village of Tungstun to help found the township of Hommlet. He did this to be closer to the College of Wizardy in a nearby city. Currently Hommlet has a "Gnomish Quarter"with nearly 20 gnomish families. The Thunderpuck family lives in a nice two story villa. Four generations of Thunderpucks reside here currently. The eldest is Tabular Magmus Thunderpuck X or "Papa". He is 215 years old(his spell like ablities go off on their own now). The youngest is Tabby's daughter Tabular Magmus Thunderpuck XIII who just turned one.

Even though I didn't plan it, they kind of have an old world Italian feel to them.

How much family would typically live with a gnome? Are their homes in little villages? What do gnomes in cities do?

I'm once again reminded of Dragon issue #291, the Gnome issue. They wrote a bit about Gnome homes, since I lent my issue out (and never got it back!) I have to go from memory.

Gnomes (and when I say Gnomes I mean 'Rock Gnomes' the standard PHB Gnomes) usually build their towns in the hills and build their homes to fit the landscape. They're quick to use adventagious landscape to their advantage, but they try and change the landscape as little as possible. Because of this Dwarves consider Gnome architecture "Lazy". Gnome homes are usually built into hills and look to be a natural part of the hill.

Gnomes towns are usually built along trade routs but are built off the road and usually build to blend witht he surounding landscape in such a way that one could walk down a road every day of their life and never know there's a Gnome town half a mile off the road.

Gnomes are ever aware of their enemies the Kobolds, Goblins and Giants, towns defences are usually twofold. There is the aforementioned camoflage which makes Gnome towns hard to find, and secondly Gnomes usually build traps that all in the town can easily avoid but a incoming enemy would probably blunder right into. Pit traps, log rolls and the like. Many of these traps are hidden with cleaver illusions.

Thanks for the summary (or whatever), Nived. I agree with all that. The first paragraph sounds a lot like hobbits, which makes sense considering that [D&D] gnomes are basically hobbits.

Power to the little people (except those dire-weasel-riding-dog-faced-lizard-kobolds and those misbegotten Kender)!

I am currently playing a beautiful little gnomish bard/lasher (see my Sig), she has reached level 12 and character boredom hasn't set in yet! Amazing.

I never played a bard before until it became the favored class of gnomes (I must say that I preferred the gnome illusionist, but I'm not complaining), and I'm having a grand old time with it.

I once actually did have an NPC ask me (I was playing a gnome rogue at the time), "What's a gnome?" I went on for half an hour about our enduring qualities before the DM gave up and the NPC walked away shaking his head, still knowing really nothing about gnomes...*L*

Here's my current character's names, classes, feats, and level;

Occaeco Magius Calumnior Cobblepot of the 6th mark, Bard of the 1rst Order (singer), 5th Rank (Bard level). Now, that's a name befitting a gnome. She says it really fast, then says "Just call me Occae,"

Bard 5/ Rogue 4/ Lasher 2 (Level 12)
Feats include Improved Initiative, Dexterous Dodge, Weapon Focus (Whips), and Combat Expertise (she'll be getting improved feint next level, and already has improved trip from her lasher levels). Her favorite battle songs are Devo's "Whip it", and "Rawhide". Last game session we fought a veritable army of kobolds (18 of the little buggers, with class levels, riding those damned dire weasels), and my spells and quick thinking averted a TPK. She has a relationship with the party's half-orc ranger, and carries around a few enlarge person potions for...well, let's not go there. Let's just say that she calls the ranger "big guy" not just because he's 6'2" and 200 lbs. ;) He has endurance and a charisma of 14, too!

Time for a tale of Gnomish heroism! This happened a few years ago so forgive a few sketchy details, one thing to keep in mind, this DM rolled in the open, so while many of these cercumstances may seem like DM railroading we were just lucky with the rolls sometimes.

Nived Devril and his strange band of compatriots, a Dwarven Fighter, a Human Sorceress, a Human Bard, and a Halfling Cleric were returning from a hard fought battle clearing a blight from a mystical forrest to the west.

Nived and Killian, the aforementioned Dwarven Fighter, realized that they were near their respective homes. The Halls of Stonecutter, Killian's clan's ancestral home and the village of 'Stonesthrow' a community not that far fromt he Dwarves mountain, it was a community of Gnomish gemcrafters who processed the gems the Stonecutter clan came across while mining for ore.

The party arrived in Stonesthrow first, and much to Nived's horror he found his childhood home utterly destroyed. Sure he lived in the wilds being a Druid, but he still kept in rough contact with his friends and family back home. There was no sign of anyone remaining in the town, all the buildings were thuroughly destroyed and pillaged, the evidence seemed to lead to one horrible conclusion, Ogres. A whole lot of Ogres. The number of dead lead them to conclude that the townsfolk were likely taken as slaves, a fact that infuriated Nived.

Scouting ahead to the parties combined horror we found that Killian's home was under seige by a massive army of Ogre, useing some natural scrying Nived was able to determine that the Orge had not broken through to the mountain yet, but unfortunately thus began the Seer Battles as the leader of the Ogre army was actually a human wizard whom had with him a blind oracle. The halfling cleric and Nived ended up having a grand duel of sorts with this blind oracle trying to out scry one other while both parties tried to keep their plans secret from the other.

Killian knew of a way we could get into the mountain without going through an army of Ogre, but it required flying to get there. The bard was able to call in a few favors and actually got us an airship (he was a member of some secret orginization but we never found out which). We made it inside the mountain, but out troubles were just beginning.

Killian's house was of minor nobility, but we found after we arrived that his father died while Killian was gone and his brother (now head of the house) had been exiled as a traitor for trying to assassinate the Thane. As such their titles, and property had been seized. I don't remember what was harder, keeping Killian from going off in a bloody rage, or convincing they he shouldn't be executed on the spot. Besides all this the Thane's wife and only son were bing held by the Ogre army. There was also the 'royal advisor' whom we all thought was behind Killian's family's disgrace. Ah aren't Dwarven politics fun. The thane was acting strangely at the time but we attributed it to the fact his wife and son were kidnapped, how wrong we were.

It seemed the combined efforts of the cleric and Nived were starting to break the enemy oracle, by working together we could see through her attempts to mislead us, we saw the layout of the enemy army, we also found out that most of the army were magically created clones (this was before episode 2 for the record). We came up with a plan for breaking the seige, the old "Cut off the head and the snake dies" idea, we kill the wizard, his oracle, and his prized luitenants and the army would fold. Our plan involved use of a bad weather (dense fog provided by the Druid) illusions from the bard, liberal use of the airship, a lot of keg bombs, and airial artilery in the form of the sorceress.

The plan seemed to be going well until we found out the enemy had bigger better airships. In the insueing battle the party was split, Killian, the cleric, and Nived were knocked off the airship, and Nived kept them from getting killed using wildshape to form a dire hawk. While the bard and sorceress were still battling in the skies the three small ones were confronted by the wizard and his personal gaurd. The battle didn't go well. The halfling cleric was quickly knocked out and was very near death, Killian was likewise nearly killed (-9 hp) and Nived was under 10 HP and barely holding on, all his attack spells save one were spent, we was saving that one hoping he could get close enough to the Wizard to use it. It looked like all hope was lost with 4 high level ogres standing in the way.

Then the bard crashed the airship into the big bad evil guy. The Sorceress used fly spells to keep them from getting killed in the crash and somehow it didn't hit us. Deus ex machina? You bet, but we did fight a hard battle. While the wizard was killed in the crash, his oracle was mortally wounded and slowly bleeding to death, the halfling cleric found her and called Nived over. She asked us for forgiveness, turns out she was forced to be the wizard's seer, and regreted helping him, she said she allowed us to see what we did, and forsaw this outsome. She refused to let either of us treat her, and instead asked for a quick release, was ready for the beyond. Nived while he understood, couldn't bring himself to do it, so the cleric released her from her misery.

With this we sent the signal, and the dwarves rushed out of the mountain to attack, without their leadership the orge army fell into disarray and were routed. After the cleric had converted all his spells to bring Killian, Nived and himself to a reasonable level of HP we went back to the mountain for a much deserved rest.

We were greeted by the thane, most of the dwarven army was still out fighting but we were spent, he welcomed us and thanked us for our efforts to break the seige, he took us into a private chamber so we culd recover and tell him everything. This private room was massive, large enough for him to assume his real form, that of a Red Wyrm! Turns out the thane was dead, the red dragon killed him and took his place just before the seige started, the seige kept him from easily taking and slipping out with the dwarves riches. Killian's brother discovered this and did try and kill the thane, because it wasn't the thane. Everyone except Nived failed their save vs dragonfear and made a break for it. Smart thing to do as we were all spent, the casters were on empty.

Nived however had one good spell left, that spell he had saved earlier. Harm, (In all its wonderful 3rd edition brokenness), casting defensively, and running right at the red beast he threw himself at the dragon's leg while he cast the spell and touched the dragon, and he beat the dragon's spell resistance. After the Dragon's HP was brought down to next to nothign and was surpting blood from about everywhere he took Nived's HP down to next to nothing the old fashioned way. For the second time that day Nived was barely on his feet, his sickle, brilliant energy though it was, would be useless, he had no spells left... but he did have one thing. Nived had taken the create infusions feat from Masters of the Wild, so he took a piece of waybread from his pouch he infused awhile back and bit into it. In an utterly amazing turn of luck, the dragon missed its attack of opportunity. Creeping Cold, a 2nd level spell that only did 1d6 cold damage the first round, again beat the spell resistance, it was enough to bring the beast down. And thus Nived Devril, 13th level druid, single handedly killed a Red Wyrm in two rounds.

This was the thrilling end chapter to our campaign, thus it ended. Killian's family name was not only restored but moved to a place of honor, the Thane's son who was indeed kidnapped was returned and placed on the throne. Nived's people were freed when the Ogre's retreated without them, and he's since spent his time helping to build New Stonesthrow, and act as a spiritual leader in the community. The halfling cleric continued wandering the world (hey that's what his whole thing in life was). The two humans flew off into the sunset on an airship they took from the wizard's defeated army. Drop curtain, roll credits.

Nice story Nived...although I prefer witing more "earthy" tales. Here's another piece of my gnomish work

-I'd say it's cause of his moustache! It's finesse gives you a real impression of a townsman! And let me add "wealthy" townsman!

-Baaah!...it's cause of the Weskers' bankrupt, what did you expect to happen?all others in town are just scrap-dealers!,I think that he bribed carrot-nose to bring all linen exclusively to him...

-It's because of HIM that the Weskers bankrupted you idiot! As for aunt Odda, don't you ever DARE think that she was bribed by a townsman!Nor call her carrot-nose again!

-It isn't just me who calls her carrot-nose,half Glassback(the town where this scene happens) knows what big a nose she..carri..emm...has! "a few seconds of silence and..."ouch!!!whoa!!hey!!!leave that thing down!!*@$!#$$%!#!#$

Armanddo: Of course dear! They arrived just today and I kept one for you too!You see...don't tell anybody of this but I've promised to make of it for other ladies as well.

Jionna:You've promised it to others??!!...Anyway,when are you having it finished?

Armanddo: Tomorrow's afternoon dear!Though you don't have to worry about the stitching bacause on other ladies' its gonna be different,ok?

Jionna: I,not only hope different but tighter too!For it splits in two with the first bite that goes down their bellies! As a matter of fact that's the only reason they come to the Emanites(a grand celebration among gnomes and elves nearby)

Armanddo: As you wish then, but allow myself dear to respect other ladies' gusto as much as yours.I'll be waitin' for you on tomorrow's afternoon then!...Hey!Dad!Bring the name-plate in!We're closed for today!

 (On the next day's afternoon...)

Armanddo: Hoi!Welcome back dear!I've just finished with the final pierce, wait for me outside so I can get you on yourself(Dad's probably flirting with the other customers...how the heck did she reach here without him even noticing?!)

Jionna: You know,Patty's outside so I don't want her know that you made us from the same fabric...don't tell me that YOU STITCHED IT ALIKE DID YOU??!!

Armanddo: Nooonono dear! But we've made a deal yesterday remember?now go wait for me outside the workroom,it's gonna be a surprise! you'll notice yourself that Patty's is stitched differently! "just looking at the pelvis and you wouldn't take a notice you livin PUMPKIN!...."

Armanddo: "Inside the store truly was Patty with two other ladies and she had "already" started the parade in front of her!,dad DID flirted with one of Patty's mates cause once I got out holding the package I heard him saying:12 crowns my son sells it but I'll leave it just for 10...and in the celebration you'll be honored we danced together!ha!ha!ha!"

Armanddo: Still making discounts to the ladies dad?!if you go on like this we won't last for more than the end of the Emanites!"what a lier have I been!,deep inside me I knew he was gonna give it for 10!No way to change old-man-Baning!..."

"so as I tightened the package under my armpit I made a signal to the pumpkin to follow me...but that proud-ass didn't see me!...to be honest, how could she as the whole store was full of customers!so I had to shout at her:"

Armanddo: Miss' Jionna!I'm in a hurry!
"the pumpkin slept through the crowd like a dog in front of a bone...finally I managed to get her into the testing room"
Armanddo: So here we are dear!Take a look at this bow!take a look at this linen-sleeves-set!that's gonna make you look at least 6 pounds thinner!

Jionna: What in the nine-hells is that?!?! I've never seen more fancy a dress in my whole life!what's this skirt?and what the *@$% are all these golden stamps??!!This shines more than Worysilk's great-bell! Fire if I catch and I'll be EXACTLY like Buston's Pyrotechnics!!!

Armanddo: Be patient dear..."I've never showed so much patience as then as far as I remember myself"...be patient and in one minute you're gonna see how would it be on yourself...you haven't even put it on!

Jionna: Are you serious?!I'm not putting that thing on me!What in the name of Thelka(goddess of treachery)...have you told the others outside set a prank on me so they can rush in here once I'm in this "thing" ?!?!NO WAY!

Armanddo: Look dear...I've spent a day and a half to finish this on time!So please put it on and don't be hasty judging things...It'll look perfect on you,I assure you!...the key is on the door, lock up if you may doubt my purpose...

"I can't beleive this! The pumpkin REALLY locked up!!!Whom has she taken me for?If it wasn't for her money and I'd have beaten her to the outstep!...after she unlocked the door of course...how rude of her!..."

Armanddo: Put it on and I promise I'm gonna replace this with another one from the shelves for free for the tragedy I put you!
Jionna: Alright!Alright!I'm not some beggar you know! All I asked you was to be accountable and you weren't!So let's put an end to this!Bring this damn gown see it on myself!

Armanddo: At last you made the right decision!I'm gonna bring you the mirror....(2 minutes later)...ready?

Jionna: Yes,almost done! The only thing it was worth for at last is that it fits mw perfectly!

Armanddo: Don't say "was" dear, come closer and see...do you really dislike it so much? "the pumpkin seems to have lost her breath!" Say something ma dear! Are you now convinced that it suits you perfectly?

Jionna: Holy elven oak!You were right bless you!Oh god that's absolutely marvelous on me!

Armanddo: I guess Omkap was right ;)

Jionna:What are you sayin' there?...

Armanddo: N...N...Nothin'...just wonderin how pity it would've been if you didn't try it! 14crowns and 5 pegasi just for you ma dear!

So let my questions loose!
-What did you think might this "strange" attitude have been?
-Why did Armanddo refer to Omkap in the end?
ps.I still haven't got any answer for my previous one...

Also - an invite - to look out for some new threads that will be about "between-foundation" encounters - like councils and so on. We've got a whole game env. to build - and would love to hear your thoughts

Toto, this doesn't look like Races anymore.

Well, here we are in the Guild House. :twitch: (I was never a fan of having a foundation forum.) Wow, that's a lot of foundations for one "house"... :P

A gnome once told me,

"Chinchilla, Bunny, Bunny, Chinchilla"

Thats when I realized he was a little kooky (in a good way, like all gnomes are) and he was introducing a bunny to a chinchilla.

Seriously: Welcome to the new board. You are now free of the shackles of having to stay on topic for the particular board you are in. Now you can role-play, discuss rules or just generally chat.

Stunties isn't that what orc call dwarves in warhammer?

Fellow gnome-lovers.....
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes...:weep:
I just checked our patron's picture in the Deities and Demigods book and I can hardly recall what my name was...
Long live Garl Glittergold!!!the coolest, smartest, cutest stylish god of all !!!!

Wow...I have been soooo busy lately. I had some time tonight, so I thought I visit the Boards. Where do I begin? The Gnome Foundation, of course!

Hm, well, at least I don't have to spend a lot of time reading posts from when I was gone! ;)

I just checked out the Deities and Demigods art...that's (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/dd_gallery/dd1/Garl_p70.jpg) Garl Glittergold?! :uh-huh: I dunno, I don't like most of those pictures. a.) They don't look like I think they should - I think it should be left up to the players' imaginations (or the DM's if a god is encountered); and b.) they don't look very godly...they look like normal people--even epic-level people in some cases--but not like gods.

My latest gnome prank occurred when I was playing an alchemist recently...he was in a bar and he smeared suregrip* on his glass. :smirk:

* A sticky alchemical substance (helps w/ Climb, Balance, etc.) from Tome and Blood.

Long live the gnomes!

Can I join the gnome foundation? They're my favorite DnD race after dwarves.
SwordMaster

Of course! Gnomes and dwarves are also my favorite races. Speaking of members: please check the list on the first page to see if you are on it if you want to be (or if you are and you don't), and tell me if I have made any mistakes. :)

Hm. They're not my favorite, but it seems that certain clothes tickle certain people's fancies. I saw a Shakespeare play recently and fell in love with the jacket and boots of a character. :P

Anyway, I decided the Gnome Foundation needed a discussion topic, so I quoted the last one.Originally posted by me
They live in burrows, according to the PHB. By definition, gnomes live underground. Hobbits also live in burrows (hobbit-holes). What do you have to say about the homes of gnomes? What are they like? How much family would typically live with a gnome? Are their homes in little villages? What do gnomes in cities do?

No offense but I can't see why you disliked Garl's concept. I think being humane, looking like a common, fancy mortal is the whole beauty in this picture....man...come on...didn't you like his enormous moustache and his jackets/pads?
He's AWSOME from tips to toes!

Greetings fellow gnome fans. I'm glad I found you again after the boards' facelift. Well after a couple months of lurking I've gotten over my stage fright, and I'd like to join your ranks.

And for my 2cp, I prefer the axe wielding Garl to the fop in tights.

Welcome, welcome! Looking at your bio, I discovered two things we have in common: enjoying playing with fire, and joining the Boards on the same date (me a year earlier).

About Garl's portrait, I will agree that he does look kinda neat. I just didn't like the deities being depicted in a book like that...I'd rather have it left up to everyone's imagination.

Any comments on the topic of gnome homes? (Or a topic you'd like to start?)

Gnome homes... I guess I see them as a shallow system of tunnels and subterranean chambers. I'm showing my age, but I favor 1st and 2nd edition descriptions of gnomes. Wiry little dwarfs that live under rocky forests, and that tends to shape my perception. I guess you gravitate to what you first started playing.

For the lovers of Tinker Gnomes (they exist I assure you) I would like to point out the Gnomish Tinker PrC in the War of the Lance sourcebook that came out this month.

Crazy Gnomish fun, with abilities like "Kitbash", "MacGuffin", "Consultant", "Toolbelt", "Remarkable Discovery", "Patent Pending", "In Development", and "Grand Design".

While I doubt many will be picking up the book (unless your a Dragonlance fan as I am) I suggest all Gnome fans take a look at the PrC, even if your not a fan of the Tinker Gnomes in general, take a look, if nothing else its amusing.

I would so run a DL game if my current players did not want to play in the Forgotten Realms because one of them bought the setting.

That is cool, Nived. I never understood why so many people hate tinker gnomes. I suppose the only uncool thing about a PrC is that you might feel like an existing tinker gnome character wasn't as much of a tinker gnome because he/she didn't take the PrC. But it's still a great idea and sounds funny. :D

It seems that no ones's posted in a while, but if this foundation is still active I would LOVE to join! :dancin:

Gnomes are great. I have to say that I'm not a big fan of tinkerers (I didn't mean any offense, I swear! No, please! Not the turnip-powered laser!) but I adore their connection with nature. They're more (ahem) down-to-earth than elves :D and make great rangers and druids. There is nothing better than sicking an enraged badger companion on a foe while you nealty slice their hamstrings

Long live the little people! :cheer: :bounce:

Hey even though I'm seen advocating the Tinkers, I love Gnomes of all settings and types. My longest running Gnome was a Rock Gnome Druid from Forgotten Realms.

One thing I like about Gnomes is the variety and range they have. They can't often be pegion holed, they're alchemists, they're tricksters, they're diligent illusionists, they're bards, they love nature, but they love machines. For me these aren't contridictions, it just shows that gnomes have a lot more range.

And while, yes, we aren't the most active foundation in the guild house *looks at the archmages* I'm sure once Sword notices he'll be more than ready to welcome you.

Hello, my fellow gnomes and gnome-lovers! It is nice to be here again. Unfortunately, I visit the Boards quite infrequently and often don't have much time when I do. I did in fact see your post, Koshram - on Dec. 21st, to be exact - and began to reply. Because I am short on time (no pun intended), or perhaps because I am lazy, I will slap that post right here rather than retyping it:It seems that no ones's posted in a while, but if this foundation is still active I would LOVE to join! :dancin: Welcome! Yes, I know we've seemed dead...I'm glad no one started a new foundation. :nonono: Ah, nevermind.

No problem with not liking the tinker concept. I think there are more people who aren't big fans of/dislike/hate tinker gnomes than there are that do like them.

Once again, welcome. And long live the gnomes! :w00t:

So many of those smilies...

P.S. Earlier today I was thinking about how the words "gnome" and "genome" are spelled so similarly. Get a life, SwordMaster.Long live the gnomes! Long live the Gnome Foundation! And thanks to its dedicated members! :)

Welcome back!

I've been gone for a while myself...but starting a new campaign here shortly and my new character is going to be a: GNOME!!

Bard exactly...putting together his history now...my dm's are very happy. They love having gnomes, but nobody has in forever...and nobody wants to play a bard...so I'm taking care of both in one PC!

Long live the GNOMES!!

My first gnome character was a bard...that was back when bard wasn't their favored class.

The part about nobody playing a gnome or a bard reminds me of something I found out. Of all the characters I've created, the only class I've never done is the druid and the only alignment I've never done is CE. Then my friend called me and told me about a "blighter" (CE druid) character he was thinking about.

Well, gotta go. :) At the risk of repeating myself, long live the gnomes!

Asternamia (Star Gnomes)

These curious and introspective cousins of earthly gnomes are rarely encountered on planets. Rather, they are more often found exploring the vast reaches of space or inhabiting lonely moons and asteroids pondering the nature of the universe in search of enlightenment.

The origins of Asternamia are shrouded in mystery and rumour. Some idle speculators even suggest that they were originally tinker gnomes who destroyed their home world and have been wandering the universe ever since, their drive to invent annihlated along with their former home.

Asternamia are taller than the common gnome, averaging out at around 4' tall. They have no hair on their heads, though their facial hair and eyebrows may be ridiculously profuse. Their noses tend to be disproportionately large, and their brows jut forward overshadowing empty eyesockets. It's said that if you look into a star gnome's eye sockets you will see the stars of their homeworld glittering in the darkness therein.

- -2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Wis, -2 Cha
- Small: As a Small creature, a star gnome gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but he uses smaller weapons than humans use, and his lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
- Star gnome base land speed is 20 ft.
- Star sight - anywhere starlight (and suns are stars) is shining, star gnomes are treated as having normal human vision on a clear sunlit day. They also posess Blindsight (90').
- Ignore Gravity (Su) - Star gnomes may walk on any surface or even on the air as if it were level ground.
- Breathless (Ex) - A star gnome does not breathe. This also means he is immune to all harmful vapors and gases (such as cloudkill and stinking cloud effects, as well as inhaled poisons) and may function even while underwater or in a vacuum.
- Automatic languages: Common and Gnome; Bonus languages: Auran, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Halfling, Sylvan, and Terran
- Favoured Class: Monk. A multiclass star gnome’s monk class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty. Furthermore, a star gnome monk may multiclass without losing the ability to continue advancing as a monk.
- Level Adjustment: +3

Star Gnome random starting age is 90 years +4d6 for Barbarians, Rogues, and Sorcerors; +6d6 for Bards, Fighters, Paladins, and Rangers; and +10d6 for Clerics, Druids, Monks, and Wizards.

A Star Gnome reaches Middle Age at 180 years, Old Age at 360 years, and becomes Venerable at 720 years. A star gnome's maximum age is always 1440 years - or a Grossennium.

Hello and welcome to all of you new gnomes.

I forget what questions have been/ are posted for discussion, so here's mine. Is the racial familiarity with the Hook-hammer a worthwhile bonus to the race?

I'm currently playing 2 gnomes online that have a hammer and so far only one is really making use of it. Gnome 1 actually just became proficient with it, started as rogue 1. He got the hammer from his Warren as a coming of age gift, but has been doing really well his shortswords so far. Gnome 2 was built around the hammer and is quite efficient with it, 111 point of damage in the first 2 rounds of the current battle!! Got to love a confirmed 20 on the x4 hook!

Thoughts, questions, concerns?

Hail once more, Gnomish foundation.

I'm thinking of backup characters to play in my current campaign (it's something of a potential grinder. Not evil, but little room for serious error), and I'm kind of torn between playing a Gnome (magic will assuredly be involved) seige engineer and weapon-enchanter versus a bookish scribe Gnome. Maybe Diviner, for the second.

I always like the double-weapons for those who specialize in them. Weapon Focus and Specialization enable maximum efficiency and minimize drawbacks, regardless of weapon types. And anything with a x4 crit is to be respected.

Hi, I'm planning on making a Gnome Bard/Seeker of the Song for this game. My friend in the Assassin's Guild (which has changed its name to something more intriguing last I checked) introduced me to this game and I thought that I'd try it out too, since I like D&D and other WotC products like M:TG and D20 Modern.

You see a gnome walk in, humming various tunes he has heard on his journey that seem to verberate the air around him like it was affected by magic as he hummed.
"Hail, fellow gnomes. I come in search of more knowledge of music, its connection with the arcane, and a place to fit in, rest, eat, and learn new stories to tell adventurers as I roam. A roaming gnome is a lonely gnome..."
