| Finwe04-16-04, 12:16 AM | FAQ Hello and welcome to the Guild House FAQ. Here, (hopefully) all of your questions will be answered. The Guild House Q: What are these, “General discussions” and “Pit of Hell” threads? A: The General Discussions ( http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=221284) thread is for asking questions about this board not on the FAQ and for submitting suggestions pertaining to foundations and how they are organized. The Pit of Nine Hells ( http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=221295) thread is just like the General discussion thread, except that it is a place to offer suggestions and ask questions about the running of the board, usually addressed towards WizO’s Q: Who are these, “Game Masters” running around? A: Me (Finwe), Silmarien Aldalome, and Orcy The Green Wonder are the three GM’s for this board. We are not “sub WizO’s”, or anything like that, but we help foundations in general. Q: Okay, so what exactly do you do, if you aren’t “sub-WizO’s? A: The purpose of GM’s is to organize special events once in a while, help the board run smoothly, start up new foundations or RP threads, and do things like write FAQs. We do not enforce the CoC ( although if your thread is getting flamey, we might pop in and tell you that you need to quiet down lest we have to cast “summon WizO IX). Q: If I want to quote some copyright information, from, say, a sourcebook, how should the copyright be cited? A: If the source is something published by Wizards of the Coast, then state the Name of the source, that it is copyright to Wizards of the Coast, and cite the page number. If the source is not Wizards’, then you must have permission from that company to post information about it. You may not post a large amount of information about whatever source you are using (i.e., the progression for a class, a new spell, etc), but you may post a glimpse or taste of what lies within. Q: Do we still have to follow the code of conduct here? A: Of course. This is a Wizards.COMmunity board, and so you have to follow the Code of Conduct ( http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=community/coc) Q: What do all these phrases such as, “OOC” or “IIRC” mean? A: The definition of all these Phrases can be found in Trollbill’s Dictionary ( http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=109235) Q: Why aren’t all the foundations in various parts of the boards? A: There are several foundations which do not directly relate to any given board, and some people have complained about the presence of foundations on the normal boards. In the Guild House, all the foundations can be organized, and it is much easier to have events for all foundations together. Q: Ok, I am interested in becoming a Game Master. How would I go about doing this? A: You can not have my job, MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! A: If you wish to become a GM, you must first display that you are willing to comit some time to the board community, and then you must be approved by the RPG boards leader, WizO_Paradox. Foundations, Guilds, Clubs, Councils, etc… Q: What is a foundation? A: A foundation is one or more threads dedicated towards a certain person, place, thing or event, or possibly even something else. I.E, the Kobold Foundation, and the Magic: the Gathering Compendium foundation. Q: Is there any difference between a foundation, guild, club, or council? A: Ther is no difference, aside form possibly the way that the organization is run. Q: What do foundations discuss? A: Foundations discuss their topic, of course! This can include role playing or rules discussion or other things. The point of foundations is to let your imagination go wild. Q: Do foundations have to be strictly D&D oriented? A: No, of course not! They have to be oriented towards something pertaining to Wizards of the Coast products, but that’s about it. Q: Do foundation have to be strictly role-playing or not role-playing? A: No, foundations may include both. Q: Can I have two different threads if I want to separate the role playing from other activities? A: Yes, you may. However, remember to clearly label your threads “OOC” or “IC” if you choose to do this. Q: How can I join a foundation? A: Simple; just ask and you are in! Q: Now that I'm in a foundation, do I get any special title or privileges? A: Unless you are set as a “thread keeper” (I.E. you are the person who keeps track of everything your foundation has done and posts links to them). Q: Can I join another foundation, even though I am already in one? A: Yes, you can join and infinite amount of foundations. Some foundation members might be a little peeved if you join and then run off and never post again though. Q: How can I start my own foundation? Do I need to check with anyone first? A: You may start your own foundation at your whim, provided you are willing to take responsibility for it if you want to be the foundation leader, and it follows terh above rules for creating foundations. Q: Ok, now that I've started a foundation, what do I do with it? A: Foundations can do anything, ranging from creating new cards to role-playing epic adventures. As long as you don’t violate any rules and stick to the topic, you are pretty much free to do anything you want. Q: Hey, I don't like this guy trying to join my foundation. Can I deny him access? A: No, you may not. You are allowed to ask them to please not join, but that’s it. Q: I want to start an RP thread. How do I do this? A: You simply have to create a new thread related to your foundation (if you are a member, ask your leader first before creating one), will “IC” in the title, and then post something to start the thread. You may interfere as much as you wish, although you should try to keep it to a minimum. IC threads here may either be with or without dice. What is the difference between “with dice” and “without dice” threads? A: Threads that have no dice are pure role-playing and thus follow the rules for freedom of destiny, and no character stats are needed (although a basic overview followed by a nice description of your character’s history. “With dice” means that the thread will have a “pre-game setup” thread first for people who want to play to create their characters and will use an online dice roller. Look at the Real D&D Adventures ( http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=278) forum if you want to know more about how these type of games work. What is freedom of destiny then? A: Freedom of destiny is the principle that no matter what you do, you can not cause any direct harm or healing to another character without that character’s player’s permission. You may attempt to have these effects take place in your post, but the other player has the ultimate decision. If you wish to include some effect in a post, PM the player(s) is pertains to, to see what their character’s reaction(s) will be. Q: AHH! Someone is spamming my thread/posting inappropriate content. What do I do? A: Report the post to a moderator, and don’t spam/flame/post other inappropriate content back. Q: Where can I find a list of all the things that people in foundations have converted/created/written? A: We are currently working on a Foundation Compendium thread. Once it is done, we will have a system set up for thread keepers to PM GM’s once in a while everything that they have done, and the new links will be updated. If you still any questions or comments, then post on the general discussions thread, or the Pit of nine hells, or pm one of your friendly neighborhood DM’s: Finwe: http://boards1.wizards.com/images/sendpm.gif (http://boards1.wizards.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=198381) Silmarien Aldalome: http://boards1.wizards.com/images/sendpm.gif (http://boards1.wizards.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=227690) Orcy The Green Wonder: http://boards1.wizards.com/images/sendpm.gif (http://boards1.wizards.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=217312) |
| WizO_Catoblepas04-18-04, 01:42 PM | Ok, my apologies. I'm opening the thread up for questions if there is any clarifications that you want to the FAQs. Once again, my apologies for locking it in the first place - it was really only meant to be stickied. |
| SwordMaster04-19-04, 06:51 PM | How come we can't post images? It's not uncommon that someone would want to post an image in a foundation. |

As in the Art Gallery, the moderators would need to approve the image, but I've on occasion needed to post images in Foundations. |

On atachments: thye are useful, but take u a helluva lot of space, whihc is why I think they are only alowed on the art board. |
