| anglar07-15-04, 12:20 AM | Kedster, you should get together with my brother. He's a hard rock/metal afficionado. ? - what exactly are we adding to the library? It'll help me with suggestions. I'm a little older school, 60's and 70's rock, even though my brother is older than me. For six months straight I had the pleasure of hearing "Ironman" by Ozzy at 7 AM. Still, I like the song. |

| Tenzhi07-15-04, 04:17 AM | Queensr˙che's Operation Mindcrime comes to... mind. But I'm not sure where to classify it. |

| Tenzhi07-15-04, 05:16 AM | Originally posted by Silmarien Aldalome Who are they Tenz? Genre/popular? Hmmm... I'm at a loss as to whether I'd call them metal or just hard rock. They tend to do themed albums that tell a story, though. Operation Mindcrime is one of their most well-known albums (closely followed by, or perhaps even superceded by Ends of Empire) and it tells the story of a directionless kid who gets caught up in drugs and crime, becoming a brainwashed assassin for some sort of cult movement. He falls in love with a prostitute/nun who he then has to murder and it drives him beyond insane. It's a great album that describes well the worst aspects (corruption, politics, greed) of life on planet earth. |
| Big Dawg07-15-04, 09:10 AM | Ehe, Dave Mustaine who's totally broke, is to release another album, though he even lost Dave. Kinda like a solo album yet under name Megadeth. Are you sure Dave Ellefson is not on it? The guitar and Drummer might be new once again, but Ellefson and Mustane have been together since Killing is my business...and business is good. Oh yeah sign me up. BTW, you need some anthrax with Joey Belladonna singing. That's the band that started it all for me. I remember listinging to "A.D.I. the Horror of it all" in my room in 7th grade. Kedi, what's with the new releases? some of those listed were released in the 80's? am I missing someting? |
| sabbattack07-15-04, 12:25 PM | AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! PLEASE,PLEASE PLEASE guys stop!!! If there is anything I'm not capable of taking, it's misinformation and people misleading each other... I'm sorry for being offensive or hostile but in my country metal is something more than holy and i'd like to partake in your group just as long as to correct some mistakes. 1) First and FOREMOST, QUEENSRYCHE IS A BY ALL MEANS METAL band. Their debut, EP, Rage For Order, and the Coronid of prog heavy metal, Operation Mindcrime are milestones and beacons in our beloved music. They started as a U.S. Power band in 1983-4, then changed their sound after the first 2 albums to a personal progressive/heavy metal sound. Although their last 3 albums were something which can be stated as non-metal, imo they must be respected as much as any other metal legend, no less than Judas Priest or Maiden. 2) I'm not a metal rules-lawyer () but dear Kedi your library is... messy to say the least. Again I'm sorry, but putting Maiden or Priest under the "thrash" label is greatly confusing to new members of the scene. Although it may be your opinion (everyone has some different understanding of music, I for instance believe that Sentenced with Ville are like "Him". Girly love goth metal for 13-year olds) you could say so. That is all I think. Once again, sorry for making such a hostile entrance. METAL FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! needless to say, can I join??? Two links i have right now, both for independent amateur e-zines that some friends of mine run (both are from Greece, but don't worry, both their English and reviews quality is EXCELLENT!!Please spread the word, it means a lot for us in trying to keep them working. We didn't even put banners there! Enjoy! Metal - Tornado (http://www.metal-tornado.cjb.net) Metal - Invader (http://www.metal-invader.com) Cheers!! :tiphat: |
| Big Dawg07-15-04, 12:54 PM | yes I agree that library needs major cleaning. I agree on queenryche as well, though I am not a fan they belong. |
| Luren, High Demilich Lord07-15-04, 12:58 PM | I think the library would be best classed by Genre, then band name, then songs by that band. |

And yeah, Queensryche is definitely Metal. And yeah, I wanna be a member. |
| Big Dawg07-15-04, 01:41 PM | to me we don't need genre's. screw putting labels on bands. we can discuss styles in depth on individual bands without labeling them into some static group. If you all really want them the I suggest we keep it broad and simple. I'll give an example in my mind of what should go in each Speed - Metallica Thrash - Pantera Death - Cannabal corpse Glam - Motley crue Industrial - Ministry In addtion, we should use "heavy" (as a catch all group) for bands that doesn't really fit into anthing above but at the same time would be by themself in a group because no one else fits them. for example: Tool or Type O Negative. lose the rest as 95% of the bands we like are gonna fit into one of these. I'd even combine speed and thrash now that I think of it. and it's Conjuring not Conforing by megadeath. ;) |
| kedi07-16-04, 06:36 PM | Well first of all, labeling something always screws some things up. By some, a minor but some, music authorities, metallica is called heavy. Some call it thrash, some call it speed. Though some genres are totally different, you may mess some up (for ex: speed/thrash, death/thrash, doom/melodic black). Until we get a conclusion then, the library is temporarily off. And bout the megadeth releases: They're re-mastered and to be released again. And sabbatack, big dawg and elth: added to list, welcomez ;) |

| Big Dawg07-22-04, 10:21 AM | What about Marilyn M I don't know, I'd put him in Industrial I guess. Portrait of an american family was one of my favorites back in highschool. I've saw them live twice in 1994-1995 before anyone even knew who he was and when daisy berkowicz on guitar. I saw them open for NIN in winter of 94 at the garden. and then saw him in June of 95 at this dump place by my house the week I graduated from highschool. So small only like 300 people fit inside. I snuck in the back door and he had cabage patch kids hanging by their necks. he was cutting himself and tearing pages out of the bible. I was 17 years old my friend donny was doing brownstone and he turned green and was done sitting on the floor the whole show. also Mr. M came out for the encore of a nails show a few years ago at the garden. during star****ers. Trents like "I bet you think this song is about you" and then he runs out from back stage in singing "Dont you, don't you!" they both sang the rest together. I was like wow, I knew that was song directed twards him. BTW - I know about 4 people who crashed their car while listening to him all in the summer of 95. it was so wierd. |

| Luren, High Demilich Lord07-23-04, 07:01 AM | Originally posted by Big Dawg Death - Cannabal corpse Cannibal Corpse is gore metal. ;) Death Metal would be something like Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Dismember. |
| Tenzhi07-23-04, 07:16 AM | I have to admit that I'm not overly fond of Death Metal (or Gore Metal, either, if you want to micromanage genres to the Nth degree). I like metal, but I also like lyrics that aren't an incomprehensible jumble of growls, snarls, and vomiting noises. ;) |
| Big Dawg07-23-04, 09:32 AM | Cannibal Corpse is gore metal. LOL. I hear ya. They are about as gore as you can get. Anyone ever listen to Cynic? They only have one album. Two guys later moved on to the band called "Death" Cynic is really wierd but really good. It's hard to find, because the album is out of print. Today On my way to work I was blasting Seputura in my car with all the windows open. I stoped at a red light and this guy looks at me me like i have 8 heads because it was so loud and it was like 730 AM. - I started yelling out my window at him "Chaos AD, Tanks on the Streets..." :smirk: |
| Eltheynn07-23-04, 10:26 AM | Originally posted by kedi A question: Where'd you put HIM and Demons & Wizards in? Him: If you don't want to offend his fans, put it at "Love metal". If you don't care, put it at "Pseudo-goth geared towards 15 years old teens who think they are kewl and totally gothic and awesome metalheads because they listen to HIM, which of course is the cutest ever". Demons & Wizards I'd put them at Power Metal. @ Dawg: "CONFRONTING POLICE, BLEEDING THE PLEBS!" LOL... Bad Dawg, scaring the heck out of the poor guy... :P @Tenzhi: I once had to go to college with a guy who, in order to "make the travelling more fun", played a cd with Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Vampyria, Disgorge and that sort of crap... When it comes to music, it is pure crap, but it's fun to listen to it... I was LMAO al the way till we got there, wondering how in the nine hells can there be such insane people. So yeah, I hear you as well... If you can find it, look for a group called "Barbas", they have a song that consists of a guy literally vomiting, and a piano playing simple notes... And the higher pitched the note that the pianist plays, the higher pitched the vomiting becomes... Really funny. ;) - Now playing: Broken Heart, by White Lion |

Also wanted to ask how do people in your community react when they confront the fact that you listen to metal(except looking at you strangly)? Not that I actually care... But the close-minded morons will always exist, and look at you like you're the Devil Incarnate (except for me, 'cause I don't wear black t-shirts and leather jackets, my hair is short (though I want it to grow longer and stay that way) and I don't have any tatoos. In fact I look like anything but a metalhead), and some of the older ones will hold their posessions tight fearing that you're gonna steal everything from 'em... Some will even think (they'd better not say it to my face!) that you're a vandal or a drug-addict without even knowing you... Though most just grumble that "youngsters these days..." and all that crap. BTW, anyone ever did something like what Dawg said, just for kicks? 'Cause I've never done such a thing, but I know that guy who listens to Black/Death/Gore, and whenever a "door-to-door seller" or some other guy he didn't want to put up with knocked at the door, he'd open it, music blasting loudly and he'd be dressing like the stereotypical metalhead. Most would freak out, never to return to that house... Hillarious. Even more considerng the fact that when it was a preacher trying to convert him, he'd even take out a Black Bible (used in satanic sects) and say he was not interested, 'cause his religion forbids him of "joining any other spiritual group". |

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! Oww, sorry... :embarrass Well, I wouldn't like to sound pre-occupied with Cradle of Fun, but they may have been something like a nice Black metal band in their distant past. Nowadays they're only a funny gang stating "we are 1000 times more satanic than thou" with the image and all. Musically, if you look past the distorted vocals (WHICH DANNY HAS SHAMELESSLY RIPPED FROM MARTIN WALKYIER'S "SABBAT" ERA) then you can see that their guitar lines are pure Maiden!!!:D  Now...as for Dawg: Man, Cynic rule!!! I'm a devoted techno-Death fan (as in "techno-" = playing their arses off in technique) so Cynic and of course Death are to me bread and butter (it may sound unbelievable, but I listen to "Sound of Perseverance" once EVERY day, be it morning on my way to the University or night, while net-surfing!!!) To Anarchy-Gnome: As for reactions, I have many a epic tale to submit here from my everyday cruises in public transports but they would surely be banned!!!! People are so stupid some times... Well, one time, at base camp... Now, seriously, one sad tale is when I was in high school, I got expelled for wearing a t-shirt of "Spiritual Healing"!!!! The headmaster caught a glimpse of me during a break, grabbed me by the ear (well, I was only 5' 7" and 16 yo then) and gave me a fiery speech about "rock bands mocking our religion" etc, etc and "commanded me" never to come again at "his" school wearing such filthy t-shirts... Well, what happens? The next day I went to school with a t-shirt I made myself, showing WASP's "Crimson Idol" at front and DEICIDE's "once upon a cross" at the rear... (the uncut version, mind you  ) I got expelled for 2 days, but not before I did a fancy little speech at the teachers' meeting, catching him off-guard (since all we punk teens don't actually have any brain or ability to speak using arguments). Well, to make long things short, although I was considered a universal nerd until then I ran for student president and won that year!!! 80% of people here are metal-heads!!! Cheers!! :tiphat: |

Cynic also has a bit of jazz/metal fussion style at some points. It wild and then slow and a bit funky and then wild. It's also relaxing at times which is very odd for death metal. The only time I saw them in concert, everyone was going wild durring who ever was on before them (can't remember) and then they came on and every single person sat down on the floor and almost everyone was smoking pot and just taking it easy and listening. Then Cannabal Corpse came out and every one went wild again. This was the same night that The rangers beat the devils in game 7 double OT eastern Confrence finals in 1994. The club annouced the Rangers won on stage and the place got torn apart by all the ranger fans who were so excited that we were going to the Cup! 2 weeks later I saw Pink Floyd at Yankee Stadium (game 6 of the cup) and the whole place was yelling "Lets go Rangers!" durring the intermission. (they lost that game on a ******** goal that should have been offsides). Oh 94 was a great year!
