GET YOUR NEW LINKS INTO ME NOW!
GET YOUR NEW LINKS INTO ME NOW!
GET YOUR NEW LINKS INTO ME NOW!

Please, get your new links for your classes into me now!
Yes, the index does look bare, don't it? Unfortunately, a lot of the classes were pruned, and i have removed the ones that linked to the old boards. That means that i am going to need new links to your classes. If your class was pruned, then you will have to start up a new topic and repost the link here and i will happily put it back in the index. If you didn't have a backup for you class and it was pruned, then my deepest sympathys for you.
BTW. No, this is not a foundation. It is a club. There is no member number, or anything like that.

I thought that the classes section of the boards seemed to be slipping away from the actual discussion of class ideas so here is an exclusive place to discuss these issues.

This club is simply a place where you can post ideas for a new class, or a new class all together. As well, you will (hopefully) not be subjected to insults and flames, which i've noticed happens a lot when peopel try to make a thread on a new class that they have personally made. All peopel in the club will offer there adivce, and offer it in the nicest way possible without sounding like a jerk. (at least that is my hope). By the way, joining doesn't require you stating anything in your sig, so don't ask me for a member number (but an expression of interest would be nice)

This club is based around new classes, so discussion is primarily on sharing ideas and opinions on new classes, not a discussion of wheather or not a fighter can kick a wizards ass. We primarily talk about reviewing classes, new classes, ideas for new classes and variants, and we are now (or rather i am now) taking requests to make new classes. I am also taking requests for people to personally email me and ask me to review a class if you still do not feal comfortable about posting a class on the boards, or if you want it to be kept low key and don't want anyone stealing the class. These classes that are emailed to me personally will only be read by me and i will reply my review to you by email.

By the way, if you happen to not agree with this idea, please be nice about it.

DUE TO INCREASINGLY HIGH DEMAND OF REVIEWS, PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR CLASSES HERE ANY MORE. Rather, if you can simply post the link to where your post is located and i will put it in the index. If you do not have a link, please post your class in the classes section of the boards, and then post the link here and i will add it to the index.
AS WELL, IF YOU DO POST A LINK TO A CLASS THAT YOU WISH TO BE REVIWED, PLEASE REVIEW ANOTHER PERSONS CLASS. THIS WAY ALL THE CLASSES SHOULD GET AT LEAST SOME REVIEWS, AND THEY'RE WON'T BE A MASSSIVE LINE UP OF CLASSES. ALTERNATIVELY, IF SOMEONE REVIEWS YOUR CLASS FOR YOU, GIVE THEM A REVIEW. (by the way, that wasn't meant to come across as rude, it was just trying to get your attention before you posted).

Reviews, suggestions, discussions, ideas and help will still be offered on this thread however, and it will not just become an index for new classes.

If my (relatively) short list of links not enough? Look here. Unda Harvum must have a hundred different useful links related to D&D and/or the boards here.

The System Reference Document [SRD] (http://www.wizards.com/d20/article.asp?x=srd)

The d20/D&D rules listed online. Pretty much all the "crunchy" stuff from the 3 core rule books are here, just in a different format. SO if you need to look up a rule and don't have your books with you check it here.

Official D&D Game Rule FAQs (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20030221a)

The name says it all. They are here for download in .pdf format.

Here are two of the FAQs I think I should list directly: D&D Boards General FAQ (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44420) and 3.0 Classes Board FAQ (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44358)

Shadowfoot does a great job of keeping this up to date. It includes links to pretty much every PrC posted on that board, all PrCs and classes by WotC available online, various links Shadowfoot thinks you'll find useful (he's right btw), and he also lists every class fom every WotC source.

The happy friendly guide to reviewing new classes (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50661)

Because this thread isn't just about dumping classes. This is by no means a requirement to be apart of the club, just a general guide line.

New class table (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44752&perpage=30&pagenumber=6)

Thanks to Bootmobile, my co-founder, for the threads (the last two were put in by me). Where ever you are Boot, we miss you.

I thought I'd let you know that for the moment I'm going to leave the Compendium idea wait. I'm not sure that we have come to a decision about it, plus it is looking more and more like I won't have the time anyway.

I also thought I would use this post to list links to as many of the very useful FAQs guides and other resources to be found around the boards. I will include a sentance or so of desription for each explaining what can be found on each. I'll start doing this as soon as you give me the go ahead.

Go ahead. LOL, thanks for that man, that will really help me for the 'guide to reviewing' and my 'guide to making classes' thread that i will be posting soon.

http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT ok, i've updated Canamorck's link, and also put a little (I need a new link) next to everyone who needs a new link to there class (which is everybody except for myself, Canamrock and Kevmann). If you could get these new link into me as soon as possible, that would be great.

QUESTION?: Does this mean that i'm going to have to repost my old class here on the new boards?

ANSWER: Yes, it will. If you don't, no one will be able to reply in your thread, and in six months time, they will be deleted. So, get them into me as soon as possible. I've also had some requests to encourage people to post there new classes on the home brew boards, but at the moment i don't believe that they are open.

Good to see the club back up so quickly. I have reviwed the Divine Champion that Kevmann posted on his thread.
Dragon Master

06-18-03, 01:23 AM
Thanks for that Boot- do you want me to place it in the index? It would be a good reference point for people who are just checking out the first page.

Oh, and i believe i owe some reviews- they will be coming up soon, i just need to get over the new boards (they're so cool).

06-18-03, 01:29 AM
Perhaps instead of people reposting their threads onto the Home brew boards, the new classes club index could be posted on the home brew boards once they are up and running. That way the links to the threads would be available. It would also help publicize the club. It would also prevent thread repetition. Any class posted in the home brew boards that people wanted listed in the club index could be added as well, instead of them needing to repost it to the classes board. I know I use the New Classes Club index almost exclusively to look for classes to review, and for links to the appropriate thread.

Ah, welcome back Ianilifar, it is good to see you. Thank you very much for that review. If ever you get some time, feel free to post a class, you've probably done more reviews then what I have and i would like to give something back for all your dedication to the club.

Oh, and Boot, while you are here, a new link is required for your sword master class.

Sorry, that one came just as i hit the reply button. That is a good idea (i assume you mean as well as on the home brew boards, i don't particularily want to move the classes club off the classes boards). That would publicise the club, and it would get more reviews (i would have to keep the index the same at both threads however, but that would be fine).

While we were on the topic- i have a question. What do you guys think of expanding the club? By this i mean making another club, say in the races section of the boards, and basically doing the same thing we are doing here, there. Both could cross publicise each other, and i think it would do well (a lot of people post races over there... i posted some but didn't really get much in the way of responses).

Dragon Master if you want to copy the links over that is fine by me. I am planning on periodically updating the list as I found new stuff. If you want I can start placing updates in new posts once you copy it over so you can see and apply the updates. One thing to keep in mind is that there is now a character limit to posts so we may wish to get this in its own post. Maybe replace your second post with this once things get settled?

As far as the swordmaster goes, I am considering a revision and a new name to go with it. And since it seems people are having trouble changing a threads header once it is posted I thought I would wait to post until after the revision/renaming. If you want to speed me up giving me a new name for the class would be help me greatly (must be for a more general class, for any skill oriented weapon). That goes for everybody, anyone got a good name for it?
lanilifar

06-18-03, 02:06 AM
I would think Boot's links post could stay under Boot's control. That way he can update them and it allevaites some of the work from Dragon Master. But maybe he likes the extra work. :)

As far as home brew boards go, I did mean in addition to here on the classes board, and yes, both indexes would need to be the same. (but that is as simple as copying and pasting).

A Races club would be fine, but I am not as interested in that as I am in new classes personally. If one was made, and the link was in your sig, I would probably periodically check it out.

Boot said about the Swordmaster:
I am considering a revision and a new name to go with it.
An artist always must tinker, eh. I liked the first one, but change is a fact of life.

I didn't realise that it would need updating... if you want you could update and maintain them, its just a shame they are not closer to the top of the page... but if boot wants to maintain and update the list, that is a welcome load off for me. Thanks for that boot
If there are no more objections, then when the homebrew boards do come online i will most likely copy and paste the index over there and maintain both.

As far as a races club goes, i believe i will get a little more feedback before i do post it.

My first D&D character was a thief (they still called them that back in the dark ages) with a lust for emeralds.
Color me green.

Is it me, or do these pages load faster now. How am I going to get all my laundry folded?

Mage Core Class

This is an alternate to having two separate arcane spell casters. This class attempts to more closely simulate the types of arcane spellcasters one finds in novels and movies. In such media, the casters can learn any number of spells. Additionally, said characters rarely have to memorize spells every night. This class introduces a spell point system.
Another aspect of wizards and sorcerers in novels, is the concept of magical talent being necessary to first begin training. This is simulated in game terms by basing a character’s spell points on their charisma scores. Making this class akin to the core sorcerer. The ability to learn. and cast, a spell is based on the character’s intelligence. This feature combines both core arcane caster classes into one class. Rules will be introduced to use the spell point system with other classes.
This class should be used in place of the standard wizard and sorcerer core classes.

Alignment: Any.
Races: Mainly humans and half-elves, but may be of any race.

GAME RULE INFORMATION
Mages have the following game statistics.
Abilities: The mage’s spell point capacity is controlled by her charisma. Additionally, the ability to cast spells is controlled by her intelligence. To cast a given spell, the mage’s intelligence must be equal to 10 + the spell’s level.
Alignment: Any.
Hit Die: d4.
Class Skills
The mage’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Alchemy (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (any) (Int), Profession (Wis), Scry (Int, exclusive skill), Sense Motive (Cha), and Spellcraft (Int). See Chapter 4: Skills in the Player’s Handbook for skill descriptions.
Skill Points at 1st Level: (4 + INT modifier) x 4.
Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 4 + INT modifier.

19th +9/+4 +6 +6 +11 190
20th +10/+5 +6 +6 +12 Bonus Feat 210

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the mage.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Mages are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor, nor with shields.

Spells: A mage casts arcane spells. The number of spells a sorcerer knows is not affected by his Charisma bonus. The spells a mage knows can be common spells chosen from the sorcerer and wizard spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the mage has gained some understanding of by study.
To learn or cast a spell, a mage must have an Intelligence score of at least 10 + the spell's level. A mage's bonus spells learned are based on Intelligence. The Difficulty Class for saving throws against mage’s spells is 10 + the spell's level + the mage's charisma modifier.
To cast a spell, the mage makes a spellcraft check with a DC of 10 + spell’s level. Any metamagic feat’s adjusted levels are added to the DC when making the check.
A mage begins at first level knowing all cantrips in the PHB and 2 + Intelligence modifier number of 1st level spells. Each time she gains a level, she learns her Intelligence modifier number of spells + 1.
Each mage casts spells by using spell points. Her charisma score determines the bonus number of spell points a mage has. She gets her charisma score bonus x level added to her class points. She spends 1 point per spell level to cast a spell. Mages can cast a number of cantrips per day equal to her key ability modifier plus half her caster level without spending any spell points. After her allotted number, she must spend 1 point per cantrip.

Bonus Feats: Every five levels, a mage bonus feat. This feat must be a metamagic feat or item creation feat.

Spellbooks: Mage’s keep a private copy of their spells in a spellbook. A mages that does not take time to study her spellbook must make a spellcraft check. DC = 10 + 5 (for each day she has not studied) + spell level.

Spell Mastery: A mage (and only a mage) can take the special feat Spell Mastery. Each time the wizard takes this feat, choose a number of spells equal to the mage's Intelligence modifier (they must be spells that the mage already knows). From that point on, the mage need not study the spell every night. Concentration checks made while casting the spell can be made by taking 10. Furthermore, any metamagic feats applied no longer increase the casting times of these spells.

I will post the rules for the spell point system next. I'm toying with the concept of using prestige classes for specialized mages. I fell that a mage would first learn general magic, then after she gains some levels, she will know where her talents lie, then specialze from there.

Abilities & Spellpoints

Each spellcasting class has spellcasting capability tied to a specific Ability, as described by that class. If a character's score in that ability is 9 or lower, the character can't cast spells tied to that ability.

Arcane spell casters use their intelligence score to determine the level of spell they are able to cast. Divine casters use wisdom.

Each character gets as number of spell points each day to spend in order to cast spells. The exact number of points is determined by the ability that represents the spellcaster’s magical abilities. Arcane casters use charisma for this. Divine casters use wisdom. The character gains the listed spell point total for her class, as well as the key ability bonus multiplied by her caster level.

Level Mage Cleric/Druid Bard Paladin/Ranger
1st 2 2 1 --
2nd 3 3 2 --
3RD 6 4 3 --
4th 10 7 4 0
5th 15 10 5 0
6th 21 15 6 0
7th 28 20 7 0
8th 36 27 9 0
9th 45 34 11 0
10th 55 43 14 0
11th 66 52 17 0
12th 78 63 20 0
13th 91 74 24 0
14th 105 87 28 0
15th 120 100 32 0
16th 136 115 37 0
17th 153 130 43 0
18th 171 147 50 0
19th 190 164 57 0
20th 210 183 64 0

CASTING A SPELL

To cast a spell, the character must be able to speak (if the spell has a verbal component), gesture (if it has a somatic component), and manipulate the material components or focus (if any). Additionally, the character must concentrate to cast a spell. (See SRD or PHB for details.)

If a spell has multiple versions, the character chooses which version to use when the character casts it. The character doesn't have to prepare learn a specific version of the spell.

To cast a spell, the character must spend a number of spell points equal to the level of the spell. Characters with access to cantrips/orisons can cast a number of these spells equal to her key ability modifier plus half her caster level per day without spending any spell points. After her allotted number, she must spend 1 point per spell.

Casting Time

The character can cast a spell with a casting time of 1 action as a standard action.

A spell that takes 1 full round to cast is a full-round action. It comes into effect just before the beginning of the character's turn in the round after the character began casting the spell. The character then acts normally after the spell is completed. A spell that takes 1 minute to cast comes into effect just before the character's turn 1 minute later (and for each of those 10 rounds, the character is casting a spell as a full-round action).

The character must make all pertinent decisions about a spell (range, target, area, effect, version, etc.) when the character begins casting.

When applying metamagic effects to a spell, the casting times are increased. A spell with a casting time of 1 action becomes a full round to cast. Those with longer casting times add 1 round to their times. Certain spells do not increase in casting time. Cure/inflict * wounds spells cast by clerics, as well as any domain spells. Mages do not apply the increase when casting spells that are chosen when the spell mastery feat is taken.

Note: Paladins and rangers do not gain spell points from their class. They only gain bonus points from a high Wisdom.

This system allows a character to cast approximately the same total number of spell levels as the core rules allow. The Mage class mentioned is a new class that combines the sorcerer and wizard

Sorry about spelling your name wrong Lanilifar. Thanks for the review too. If you want your name in any specific colour, just ask.

Xorial, thankyou very much for posting your class, but just as a reminder, next time would you mind posting it on the general section of the classes boards, that way it makes the club look neat, and you can get personal responses. If you wouldn't mind reposting this in the general section of the boards, i'll put a link for you there, other wise you will just be put in the 'no link' section which is down near the bottom.

http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT ok Xorial, i've updated your link and put it in the 'no link' section of the index.

Megrim_Lord, this is the perfect place to ask a question such as that. Check out some of the classes here, they should give you some ideas on how a new class should be set out, and you may even want to use some of the ideas from there (i believe that there are one or two necromancer type classes). If i get time later, i'll give it a shot at making the class for you myself. I'll need some more information though- apart from eating corpses, what else do you want it to do? Cast spells? Divine, arcane? Or is it a more stealthy kind of person? Or maybe its a fighter?

Check out the Spell Stealer class, its got a similar concept, except it steals spells from other peoples bodies and gains powers. I believe Master Weaver also has a class similar where it captures spells and puts it into an item for latter use (and i'm working on a review for that master weaver.)

Well it won't be much of a change. I'm just broadening the class' scope a little to make it more appropriate as a core class. Basically there will be a larger list of weapons available to the class and each character will choose X many of them. This will allow more Eastern styled characters as well as the Eurocentric fencing fighter. I also imagine a few of the feat changes from 3.5 will cause a need to tweek the class as well.

Still need a damn name though. I am absolute crap at naming things.

Thanks for the interest. :)

Ok, my first review since the new boards (sorry it has taken me so long). This is the Master Weavers class, the collector. (Its also posted in your thread master weaver).

Alignment: Good
HD: Good, with the constitution as a primary ability score this is fine.
Class Skills: Good, maybe ad knowledge Arcana and spot.
BAB: Good
Saves: Good
Weapons and armour: I’d say at least give them light armour proficiency
Improved Initiative: Very good
Detect magic: Good
Collecting magic: This is a very good idea, and well made. However, I believe that this isn’t enough to carry the Collector on its own, and you would have to be playing this class in a very precise campaign with a stable party and varied amount of BBEG NPC’s so that the Collector can get some spells.

I like this class idea, but it would be hard to play, unless the party and scenarios where picked very carefully. I personally think it is a little underpowered and could use some boosting. I would say either to give them some natural spell casting talent (say up to level four or level six arcane spells), or if you didn’t want to go that way you could even go as far as giving them martial weapon proficiency, some more armour and maybe even a BAB increase (but you’d probably have to down the receptacles per day a little bit). I like the concept of the class, and the collecting spells is really good, but a little underpowered.

Also, if anyone cloud spare some time, i needs a hand encouraging people to do some reviews at the races club (yep, its like when the classes club first started up, people just started dumping there stuff there). Dragon Master, I did a rather lengthy review of the spell stealer. I'm afraid I gave you a bit of a hard time. Sorry about that. :( I do very much like the class though. :)

It seems that people have updated their threads to the new boards faster than I enticipated and if you still want to put the list of links in the opening post it should be fine. I'll just post any updates in a new post so you can add them, should they be necessary.

The Master Weaver Is Warped, I added some comments on your thread for the collector, though I'm not sure I would go so far as to call it a full review.

06-21-03, 01:47 PM
I threw a few comments on RMGCLF's thread for the Necrovita.

On a conversational note, Am I just a total control freak?

When I do these reviews I get halfway to rewriting the class. In fact, half the time I am tempted to completely re-write the class, just to show the author what changes I think are a good idea or how things might be worded differently. Actually it is also because you guys have often inspired a bunch of new ideas. So many of the classes I have read here have been great and are very original that it provokes me to say how I would do that really cool idea.

So I guess part of what I am saying is that if I have walked all over your class, you can take that as a compliment. (... Yeah, that's it. It's a compliment. ) Seriously I am mpressed with the crazy ideas many of you have come up with and if I'm pcking on your class it is only because I can't resist showing you how I would do it. Actually I often like the ideas so much the only reason I don't go and make my own version is that I wouldn't want to rip anyone off.

I wonder if anyone would be interested a thread called, "Have Bootmobile re-write your class"? Hmm ...

As Ranger REG says, "Anywhoo, just some random thoughts ..."
Dragon Master

06-22-03, 02:29 AM
Control Freak? I'd put it more as... a passionate writter. LMAO.
I do appreciate your comments on my class boot, and they were helpful (i wrote a small comment in the thread). When i get some more time later (i'm running three clubs and doing a daily funny monster, and trying to keep up with reviews, so i've been pretty busy lately) i'll make a full detailed response. Thankyou, however.

*update on the other clubs*

For those of you who are wondering, some interest has been shown on the New Races club. While i'm still the only reviewer there, many people are posting races there, and this has been good news.

The New Classes Club- Other Wolrds however is a different story. In the past... few days its been up i've had no responses, and after viewing a thread in the meta board i have seen someone complaining about inapropriate material being posted in the homebrew forum (while the club was not directly mentioned, and i don't know if it was refering to that, i'm starting to see his point). So, i fear that if i don't get some postive responses within the next day, i will be deleting the Other Words classes club.
And when i do get some time, i'll do some more reviews here (man, i've got way too much to do at the moment).
Dragon Master

06-23-03, 05:10 AM
Okies, the New Classes Club- Other worlds in now dead :( Unfortunately over the four days it was up i got no interest.

Now, this thread has been lacking some reviews as of late. I believe it is time i did some. So here is a very rushed review of the bartender class...

Well, this is an interesting class…
HD: Fine… but I can’t imagine a bartender with that many hit points…
Class Skills: The skill list is fine, but the skill points should be brought down to 4 I think
Weapons and Armour: Hmm, well not that this is unbalancing, but I don’t know any barkeeps that wear armour, lol.
Alcahol Saves: Lol, its fine
Sonic Saves: Again, lol. But fine
Profession Requirements: Bad idea. This practically makes the class look like a Prc…
Sneak Attack: The ability is fine, but sneak attack? For a barkeep? Lol.
Bonus feats: You should add a little more, but I’m too lazy right now to actually do any.
Saves: Balanced, but I don’t believe they go well with the class.

Altogether the class is… unique… but there is no point having it as a PC class, that is definite. As an NPC class, it’s a little overpowered. You’ve obviously got a reason for creating this class, wether its for fun or your world doesn’t matter, its still balanced as a PC class, but sorry to say I really don’t see the point. But, its very unique, I will give it that, and it is balanced (as a PC class I’d say it’s a little underpowered).

I'll get back to you very soon. http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/pyth.gif

Yes, i know the feeling. As of late i've been swamped with work from the monsters lair. I haven't even had enough time to give a decent review of your review of my class (sheesh). LOL.

Whoa, we got bumped down a little bit. So, consider this a bump (and i'm glad i don't have to do this often). As well, tonight i'm going on a mini reviewing marathon- i'll try to get about five classes done at least.

Hmm... reviewing marathon got a little boring... so i did this instead

Dragon Master's happy friendly guide to reviewing (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50661)

Boot, you can add this to your useful links, it should help. I spent a couple of hours on this, and some feedback would be much appreciated. I will try and update it and add new steps, and i suggest that all of you take a quick skim over it (BTW- i haven't aimed this at anyone of my reviewers in this club. I think you all do an excellent job and hold up to these guidelines excellently, probably better then what i do).

Any comments on this at all? Oh, and i just did a review of the blademaster, but i just realised it wasn't in the index...oh well...

Nice guide , I think it will help keep the reviews as nice as possibly while still being able to critique effectively. Also thanks for reviewing my class :)

*gasp* it is too... my mistake (gees, i can't even read my own index properly)

Dragon Master, I clicked on the index link to the Spell Stealer and it took me to the old boards. I was checking to see it there was anything I had missed in recent development. Is there a new thread on these boards? I'd hate to have your class lost in 6 months. Could this be a case to the shoemaker's children going barefoot? You take care of us so well:angel:, did you forget yourself?

Oh, now that is strange... i was sure that i updated it the minute the boards changed over... hmm, i fear now that perhaps someone elses link now acutally leads to my class... i hope that is not the case

http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT thank you very much, as i wouldn't have spotted that myself. I haven't done anything to the class since it was posted last on the old boards (except i added the wizard weapon prof). I'm still working on some kind of 'craving' system, but really i've been too busy as of late. I haven't even had time to respond properly to bootmobiles rip (which i will do and i am most thankful for). The only real thing i've done with the class was bump it up everynow and again, and defend it from tage (he was going around to every class thread and asking why it was core... i was waiting for him... i ended up monitoring him for about an hour...) But, thats just me being paranoid over my threads, and my review guidelines is now turning him into a happy poster which i am very glad about.

If anyone is feeling creative i could use a lvl 20 ability and one other ability to finish off my blade master, also we fell to page 2 so consider this a bump :P Link is in my sig, thanks in advance.

Maybe replace celerity with the Greater Weapon fighting feat. As for soul of the sword, i don't know... maybe a dimenion door ability (i don't know how that fits in with the class, but it would seem cool).
Sorry, apart from that i'm way out of ideas.

I'll do a review soon, when i wake up properly (i've been trying to do that for the past 8 hours... i love the weekend).

Hehe, now i'm obsessive. I made one post in that smileys thread and now its turned me into an abasaloute smiley freak. Oh well. No longer do i have to post the word *switch*. I've got a smiley for it (and i'm that obssesed with it that i went to every post on the clubs where i put the word *switch* and replaced it with http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT )
Here is a smiley that does the advertisements for me instead of me having to type out a couple of paragraphs on why they should post their class in the club. http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMClub.TXT

On topic, i'll be doing some reviews shortly. I'm also looking for some more feedback on that guide to reviewing.

And, considering that boot is busy at the moment, i'd thought i'd give everyone a heads up. In roughly a weeks time i'll be heading off to Japan for 12 days for as part of school. This means that i won't be able to update the index or give reviews for 12 days (probably more like 13 or 14 days, because i'm not doing reviews the minute i get back from Japan).
While i'm gone i'll need someone to just generally keep a small listing of all the classes that need to be added to the index so that when i get back i can just quickly add it. I'll also need someone to give pretty much a daily bump/review.
Bootmobile is the co-founder so he gets first dibbs on this, but with warning: its a lot harder then it seems. If boot doesn't want to do it, i don't mind if any of the top reviewers do it (which at the moment is basically Master weaver and Lanilifar. The cloaked and Little Black Kitten went missing after the board change over... though i have seen some traces of The Cloaked every now and again... and i'm not to sure what happened to Xevant, i haven't seen him post here yet... and Merlion just left as soon as his class was reviewed about three times by boot)
So if anyone is up to the task, all i really need done is a small bump every now and again, some reviews (which you guys already do). But, we've still got a week left so i'll wait until i get a response from boot before i make any decisions.

Review of Justicar copy from that thread.

Ok, here we go.
I really like the concept. Correct me if I'm wrong but what we basicly have here is a Bounty hunter? Cool, could probably be a PCr, rather than a class, since this is basicly a profession. You have gone to the work of filling it out all the way, and, since I'm the first person to champion complete classes based on cultural differences. Let's rock.

Alignment. excellent. I'd drop the anti-association clause. I can see him employed by CG rulers, and he might need to have regular informants amoung CN, and even CE. This is a practical thing.

BAB and Hit dice. You've mixed thing up a bit, with a fighter's BAB and a Cleric HD. This is not a bad thing mind you in general, but then looking at the saves related to the concept, I'd say this guy is going to need and iron will to keep on his path. Law breakers are sneaky SOB's. He will need the hitting power too, but I'd hope he'd rely on his wits more. Therefore, give the BAB as a cleric, and give the high will save. If you want him to have the punch, give it to him in the JMAD, but make sure it never exceeds Rogue sneak attack damage. You will see why I say this, next.

Now to the skills. This is where the profession part of the idea comes in. He has a job to do, give him the skills to do it. Give him Rogue skill points. (8+ INT.)

Scrap Concentration. It's is mostly just for spell casters. Since you have magic as spell like abilities, rather than actual spells, it isn't necessary.

Give him Craft. Everyone gets that.

Add disguise. If the badie knows they are being hunted, this will help him get closer to the badie easier.

Add forgery, with the stipulation that is can only be used to detect for forgery. The last thing he would want to do is bring someone in on a false warrent.

Add Heal. He wouldn't waste a healing potion on the trash, but once in custody, he would administer to them, if only to keep the injured scum from slowing him down too much.

Add Intimidate, will make his life much easier once the badie is in custody.

Intuit direction is always useful, but with the track feat automatic not essencial.

Scrap Knowledge Religion, since I've added more than I've dropped. Knowlege law is enough.

Add Profession, just so he can keep his records and fees straight, find clients and all that.

If the character is female allow a subsitution of Innuendo for Intimidate, should the player choose to go that very interesting route. "3 little 's work for Charlie"

I've done a quick scan of the other abilities. They all look good. If you have any personnal doubts about any of them and want me to look at them more closely, let me know. I can't help with 3.5e stuff though. I haven't looked at any of it.

Happy hunting.:D

Master Weaver: again, i do thankyou for your contribution to this club and for your constant reviews. I have full confidence that you will look after this club while i am away (for 13 days... ahhhh... what will i do?). and i thankyou for offering to help. All i really need is a bump every now and then, and to inform new posters who post a class that i will get their class in the index as soon as I get back. But, i'm not gone yet so for the next three days i will try and do as much stuff as i can.

The following is my responce to simon_tage's tread about no new core classes. I'm copying it here because
1) I've invited him to help us, if he chooses.
2) It is good to be reminded of the other side of the fence and a call to moderation, and excellence.
3) I mentioned this club by name.

While I understand that people like being creative and like trying out new ideas I just don't see why so many people post core classes that are so poorly thought out. The fact that the classes are weak has also become their greatest defense. In a sense of PCness and a will to foster cooperation in general negative responses are being silenced. I know people shouldn't just flame away but sometimes the fact that a class should be a PrC needs to be made.
If you read a class and believe this, then it is approprate to say so but you must support your belief. Just saying it should be a PcC is not helpful for your cause (core classes only) or the creator of the class trying to become a better creator, and refine their creation. If you do the latter and not the former, you will be ignored, and justifiedly so.

If you think something is poorly thought out, explain why. This makes the whole community better, as we can learn from and discuss your thoughts and opinions. Everyone thinks from different perspectives. If you think PCness is getting in the way, and it can, then find a way to get your point across, taking a bow to politeness without sacrificing your message. This is a call to think harder. If you find you have been overly harsh/sarcastic/snide in the heat of the moment then apologize. I know I am often guilty of this, and have to back off and calm down. It can work wonders on yourself and others. Everyone gets hot. Admitting and taking responsablity for your bad behavior is the real mark of being PC, in the best possible meaning of the term.
I know I have no right to ask but give us a background. ....Then I, as well as others probably, will seriously take a look at your class.
You have every right to ask this of a creator. Listen to any reporter interviewing a artist. "Where do you get your ideas?" Watch the artist pause because the real answer is "I made it up." Then they give some explination the reporter will buy. This question will make the creator think about their own processes though, which is always valid. If your own process requires this background to give a review then by all means, ask. Othen background is a lot to read through, on top of all the class info, so is not included. If the class has something that intrigues you, then ask for what you need to understand better.
I hope this was not too "negative" as I only mean it to be constructive. Just come up with a general class (fighters are general...axe lords are not) or give a reason why the specialized class should be core and even the "PrC from the get go" crowd may be more helpful.
Opinonated, but not negative. That's fine.
Here's mine.
I'm firmly in the "cultural reason" camp for different core classes. I have an amazon class not yet posted, that I am working on. They are isolated from the rest of the country because they live on islands. They are warriors, but don't use armor because they spend a lot of time in boats, and swimming. This means they train differently. The organization of the tribe is such that everyone trains a warrior first. It is not until later levels that they are even allowed to begin training with the elder clerics and wizards. One reason I have not posted it is because it is so specific to my world.

My opinions reguarding multiclassing. I think it is a pain in the butt and weakens characters. In 3e there are restrictions related to races. My elven rogue has no desire to cast magic, but this is the only non PcC he can take without penalty. I was fortunate that the dualist PcC fit my character concept. My DM also limits the number of PcC that a character can take to 1 before 20th level and 2 total.

Included in a lot of these new classes are special abliities that are not found elsewhere. These are full of roleplaying flavor. Maybe these things should be avaliable as feats to core classes. If you think of them that way, you may be able to contribute to the discussion without accepting the core class concept. Your feedback on the mechanics of these special abilities would be very valuable.

Finally, people will continue to add their own flavor to the game. You are fighting a losing battle. I'm not being harsh, just realistic. It is what everyone loves about the game, making unique memorable characters. If you are concerned about how well people do this, then help them do it better. As our (the new classes club) strongest critic, if you can give us well reasoned arguments, then we should listen carefully to what you have to say. This is the part of the game that interests us. We want to be able to do it better. Help us, as Dragon Master says, nicely. I will post a copy of this response in the new classes club as well, for their info.

For practice, take a stab at my class, the Collector. I think it fits your requirements of "not easily duplicated by a core class."

Respectful:bow:

Thanks for that Master Weaver: I'm confident that i have left the club in good hands :)

As for simon tage's post, i have been 'talking' to tage in several threads, ranging from my own class's thread, to several anti-class threads he has made. Luckily, he has not posted here (and if he does while i am away, if he doesn't have anything nice to say then please ignore him).
I believe Tage's intentions are not to get people upset- he reviewed my happy friendly guide to reviewing new classes and offered to turn over a new leaf. I have seen him do that, and i admit that i was surprsied when he did so. However, i hve just finished replying to his last thread- and my response was pi$$ed off at best. Some of his points may indeed be true, i stand by the point that it doesn't justify flamming people who create new classes. The whole reason i made this club was to stop things like that (and i'm glad to see that you have responded in that way Master Weaver... after reading over what you have said it has made me rethink what i said in Tage's posts- as my comments were not friendly).

Now, back to lighter things- i will be gone in two days (and my absence over the past day or two was because i was packing. You're welcome to new posters is excellent master weaver).

Before i leave i'll give out a heap of reviewss (by heap i mean around three...). So, for our latest class, i believe a http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT

Again- thankyou for your commitment to this club Master Weaver.

Oh, me and tage have only known each other for about a week, but i do my homework on a lot of posters before i reply to anything they say. (Check my spell stealer class for that interesting encouter)
As for your comments, Indeed they do help on the matter, and you probably put it better then what i could have. When dealing with people who are ignorant of others i tend to get... well, a little flamming myself- sometimes going against what i have said (luckily no one is yet to pick up on that).
Before i make any more comments on tage's thread, i'm going to do a little more research (as i have not fully read all the posts there yet). However, this is not a topic that i want to dwel on. Wether or not tage is correct in what he says, the fact still remains that people make classes. And while people make classes, we review them in the nicest and most constructive way we can.

The concept is an intriging one. Not only can you not cast spells on your own you have to catch them from others.

I do agree that basing it on a skill would not be the best idea. If for no other reason that someone could multiclass out of the Collector and still advance his skill at Collecting as it were.

The other issue I have with the collecting ability is that it is working double duty. Not only does it provide the Collector with spells but it cancels those of the opposing caster. It seems to front heavy in that respect for me.

Maybe instead the Collector could gain spells by leeching them from nearby casters. A full round action could force the opposed caster to make a will save versus a DC=10+cha+class level. If the save is failed then the Collector is able to store that spell. The opposed caster would still have the spell available to use but now so would the Collector. An additional benefit of this method would be to allow the Collector to steal a spell more than once even if the opposed caster only had it prepared once, as long as the opponent still had the spell it was up for grabs.

Also do the spells released cast at the Collector's class level? I think they should for ease of record keeping. Yes, this means that a 1oth level collector stealing spells from a 1st level opponent gains power inadvertently but really it is the patern of the spell taken and not the spell itself. Well, by my method anyway.

Hey Dragon Master, I think it is cool you are doing this! You are kind of a Shadowfoot for the base class people!

Anyway, I had to change the name of my core class because the name was taken in the FRCS book, also, I have a new thread for it, you can find the link at the bottom of my signature!

Thanks alot!

http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/DMswitch.TXT updated on the divine channeler. Kenmann, your sig seems to just lead me back to the old one... i found your Zealot in the general section though, you may just want to check the link to see if i've got it right. There are a lot of differences between shadowfoots compedium and the club, one is that we encouage helpful and constructive reviews- not stuff like "This should be a Prc" which i have seen you post. Please, try and make them a little more nice and constructive- alternatively don't say anything at all.

Well, its 10:33 P.M. in Australia right now, and i'm going to bed. Tomorrow i wake up at 7:00 am to head off to my flight to Japan!

As most of you already know, i will be going for 12 days (it will appear as 13 for you guys, i may need to recover from jet lag or whatever). In Japan, i probably won't be able to access to a computer, which means i won't be able to review or update the index- or even bump it.

So, until my return, Master Weaver will be taking over as the clubs main representative/supporter. I place this postion to Master Weaver with great confidence and faith, and look forward to my return where i will hopefully have a heap of links to update.

If Bootmobile or Lanilifar show up, i trust they will support you as best they can (however other commitments of coarse do come first, Lanilifar does have a new baby).

Until my return, the Master Of Dragons salutes you all and thanks you for all your time and effort into this club, and i do look forward to coming back and doing some more reviews.

Master Weaver, you have the bridge (or the switch as i do so like to call it).

Review of the zealot class

My vote for not including the turning ablities. The focus against heritics means people who hold contrary beliefs. The undead are just minions between the zealot and the heritic. Slice through them and get to the meat, so to speak.

I like the plus to dex. The word frenzy suggests speed. The faster the heritics are banished from the relm the better.

With the CHR focus giving them leadership at a later level might be a good idea. Nothing so inspiring to a future zealot as an old one so sure of their faith and abilities that they inspire others to take up arms for the cause.

I might even add the perform skill for charging into battle singing an appropriate hymn to inspire followers. This is of course major flavor stuff.

I'll review the spell list later.

Overall, I'd use this to replace the paladin.

Mainly, this is because I'm not in the least impressed with the quality of the reviewers (read: peanut gallery ;) ) out there outside this thread on the general classes board, which inspires me to sit down and do some reviewing of my own  . (I don't mean to offend anyone, but a lot of comments and reviews are absolutely useless; if they don't give their reasoning, there's no point to commenting, is there?)

On the other hand, I don't want to just post all willy-nilly on the boards, because that's a good way to get my brain confused. So, I think this would be the forum I'd feel comfortable reviewing in.

I'd also like to post a few classes of my own, but then I take a look at some of the classes on the board and in the club and I get too distracted... er... intimidated, to post my own.

Anyways, expect to see a bunch of me from now on. :behold:

Now, I'm going to have my snack and go to bed. :cookie:

Happy reviewing everyone :D

I have SEVERAL homebrew classes, I'd love to see them gain some attention and commentary. They include my:

Defender (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56509)

And my Expert (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56789).

Please look these over, and give me any opinions or thoughts that may cross your mind. Thanks!

Welcome Ranfilar and JasperDM. Our great leader is on a trip for a bit. I'm standing in.

Ranfilar, you and Dragon Master seem to be of like mind. Another reviewer here would be greatly appreciated. Reading Dragon Master's guide to friendly helpful reviews is never a bad idea. I believe he put it in the index. If he didn't I'll remind him when he gets back.

Please don't be frightened of posting a class or five. The good ones here are products of the process. Post them on the main classes board and then post a link here, as JasperDM has done. Dragon Master will put them in the index eventually.

JasperDM, please pick a class or two from the index and do a review. There's a lot of interesting stuff here.

Again, welcome folks.

God I love 'em, especially the Necromancer, I have to commend Shadowfoot's method of handling -everything- right there in front of you.

Chick with the Sneazel and the great smilies, I want all of them I can get.

As an authority (in my own mind) on necromancy and tanks, I'll happily review any classes you guys link that I can find.

I read the guide, and started in on a review of the Spell Stealer class. It just seemed appropriate to start with the class designed by our esteemed leader. However, it's taking much longer than I thought it would. (Boot, How long did yours take to write?) I'm already at 4,644 words, and I'm guessing that I'm not anywhere near half done. This may mean that I'm not going to come across as quite friendly enough, and that I'll come across as a little controlling. Dragon Master, when you get this, I just wanna help :D. Anyways, I hope to be done by noon tomorrow. Then, onto the next class.

Alright, all by itself, sitting alone, it's a fine class. When sat beside any or all of the 3.5 core classes, still damn solid. However, you've just handed a friend of mine something rather fearsome. He and I constantly one-up each other on power spellcasters...he in evocation, I in necromancy. Now, when the Mystic Theurge came up, naturally, we both nigh on crapped ourselves. He immediately conjured up a sorcerer-shugenja-mystic theurge who had all the power he wanted, off a single caster stat. Nasty, compared to my necromancer-death cleric-true necro-mystic theurge. Alot easier to equip, and even easier to assign stats for. Your divine channeler gives him everything he wanted from shugenja, plus turns/rebukes and what is basically an instant kill for an evil channeler in the form of the hold ability. A few Extra Turning feats, a strong Charisma score and you have an assassin par excellance, as a held character is effectively a dead character near any smart evil character...

All in all, a good class, but that paralysis is fearsome, and the Mystic Theurge brings forth serious power play options that might make the character little more than a big gun. Something to think about.

Thanks for posting Kouketsu, Krynus Ogerbane, and Obryn Darkfell. When Dragon Master gets back from Japan, he will put everyone's new links in the index.

Meanwhile, since you are waiting, check the index and do a review of another class. There are lots of interesting things there.

Gellion, thanks for the bump.
JasperDm thanks for doing the review, and posting it here.

Haganegiri, I know of one class where the medium saves have been used, but I can't remember what class, and who made it. Sorry, not a lot of help here, but I do know it has been used. Check the index. It maybe one of the ones from the old boards. Process of elimination, It's not the Collector.

I live for this kind of flavor.:cloud9:
First in response to Dragon Master.
This would be an acceptable PC class in an all city adventure. Add access to the city catacombs through the root/wine cellar and this would be a blast to play. Between the catacombs and the tavern main room, this PC doesn't even have to go anywhere to get EXP. It comes to her. I see a female dwarf with weapon proficiency throwning tankards, and a wicked unarmed stike to the groin.

"Boy, there isn't a cod piece made that I can't cleave in two." Nailleen says to the scrub boy as she helps him haul the uncouncious barbarian out to be dumped in the gutter.

Bonus feat- Throw Anything. Not sure where I saw this one, but I know it's out there somewhere. Point blank shot, and precise shot could fit here very well. Quick draw as well. Get that wand out first and the fight could be over before it starts.

I agree with him, don't have the profession requirement. Instead, give synergy bonuses to other skills, if you want players to keep putting skill points in that area. Also, combine this with other skills for all their bargining.
Rather than the armor, give them the dodge feat progression, including the improved versions from the splat books.

Bonus feat-Combat reflexes. They are going to know all about AoO, ah la bottle breaking over the back of the head.

Don't change the skill points. I love skills, and there is a lot involved in running a business. They are going to need them. Add Innuendo, read lips, speak language, spot, and use magical device, to the class list. The read lips is related to their sonic saves. Speak language- all sorts of people come into bars. They are bound to pick up at least the cuss words of any new language they come across. Maybe limit this one to speaking only, not reading and writing. Spot the trouble makers before they get a chance to reck the bar. Nothing like a bar tender with an unknown (or well known by the regulars) wand in her hand to quiet a group of unruly drunks.

I might scrap the leadership feat. They don't have to be liked to get the work done.

This may be a radical idea. For the saves, let the player decide which two they want as high when they create the character. There are good arguments for this class having the high reflex save.

"You're a sweet fresh thing. Best advice I can give you honey, is learn to move fast. Saves a lot of bruising on your hind quarters." Nailleen lectures as she helps the new serving wench tie her apron.

Since there isn't an apparent prime ability score for this class it leaves things very open to unique customization. That in itself makes makes it an interesting class.

I agree that this class may be a bit underpowered for a PC. Since this class would need a place of business to be effective, maybe a treasure bonus of some sort would be in order. I'm not sure how you could work this out, but basicly, take the treasure they would normally have as PC, and add a precentage. Think of it as profit from the business. They may not be as strong as tradional PC's, but they will be wealthier. This could be the balance necessary, to make this a playable PC.

Makes me want to create a city adventure to try it.:D

All I can say, Weaver, is I'd love to roleplay with you...I can see you've got a fine eye for situational comedy and acting. Also, the the mighty Dragon, I'll add that I love the idea of the class, I had a portly sorcerer by the name of "Jolly" Jake Hahl, running the show in a small tavern, with a fun spell list, even for a level 1.

0) Quick Sober, Clean, Prestidigitation, Mage Hand

1) Unseen Servant(aka his "Invisible Waitress" spell), and Sleep, for those rowdies who come in being an ass. With all the alcoholic Wis damage, dropping a good Sleep on someone is easy.

I'll look back over your bartender class, hell, it might be time for Jolly to multiclass.

Thanks so much. Unfortunately, my writing is better than my role playing. I don't usually pull these things out of my hat at the game table. Then again, I've only recently started playing after a 10+ year break. Maybe it will come back to me. I hope so. Like I said, I live for the flavor.

PRAISE ALL!!!

The master of dragons sends you an email. Right now im in Osaka air port, and in about 15 hours ill be back in australia. forgive my bad grammar, these computers are strange and confusing and i cant seem to find all the keys. Im having a great time, and my trip has been one of the best i have ever had in my life. but, i was having withdrawals from the boards, and when i saw this computer i couldnt help myself but get on.

Master Weaver, THANKYOU soooo sooo much (note id put in some smileys but this computer is pay by the minute and im running short on yen. that and the screen is really strange). Your commitment to this club is above excellent, and im very pleased at how you have handled things. it appears ive got a lot of work to do when i get back (which will be only in about 15 hours).
As soon as i get home i will update the index, and put my guide to reviewing in there. i didnt put it in the index because i wanted Mr. Boot to put it in his mini index, but it appears he hasnt chekced in yet.

JasperDM and Rafilar Irithyl WELCOME ABOARD. If you ever post a class and do some reviews (which i very much hope you do, you will recieve a top reviewer remark next to your name and be placed up with the epics on this club.) BTW, with the reviews, i appreciate constructive comments, and i understand if they are a little harsh. As long as they remain friendly, i will be happy. Look at Boots response, he is my co founder and he did a rip throuh it, and its one of the best responses ive got. So, do not hesitate to say what is on your mind, as long as it is constructive and friendly.

As for gellion, who gave us that bump. Thankyou, it is good to see that people are interested in the club.

I don:t have much time here, so i can:t check alll the posts and reviews and classes, this is just a message saying i miss you all and look forward to coming back.

See you all soon (hands bridge controls back over to Master Weaver)

Thankyou sooo soo much for all your effort to this club Master Weaver. It is a shame Boot and Lanilifar wasn't around to help, but it appears as if Ralifar and Jasper have kept you company. You have done an amazing job, and next time i go on holidays, i would have no hesitations in letting you run the club again.

Also, thankyou for all the reviews as well. You're a champion

Welcome aboard. My post card i addressed a comment to JasperDm, but it was infact addressed to both of you as well. Those Japanese computers are confusing. I've edited the postcard now, and i didn't mean to leave you out.

I have put your name in the top reviewer section of the index, and would love to put a class next to it. Also, if you have a custom smiley or you would like your name in a particular colour, don't hesitate to ask and i will put it there (this goes for all top reviewers).

Give me the link to the review, and you'll get a top reviewer sticker next to your remark, and get top priority on my reviewing list (next to the other top reviewers whos classes i haven't reviewed yet, but thats only one at the moment).

As for the latest dragon, i stopped collecting dragon at number 300. They were posting too much stuff that i wasn't just reading... it was a good magazine, but it was very rare when i'd actually get a magazine that had something that i could or would use. I still collect Dungeon, as they have really good scenarios which i do use. Anyway, the point is, i do very much believe that people use these boards. I believe if enough people here said that they thought a particular class wasn't needed at all in the PHB, they'd get rid of them. But then again, i don't go to the 3.5 boards much so i'm just saying that on little evidence.

Back to something on topic, i should be doing some reviews come 2morrow- by then i should be over my sleep problems. Stupid planes...

Haven't seen it, but I've heard about it (I hear the like are also going to be in the new "Complete Warrior" book as well).

Obviously, WotC doesn't agree with the horde of people who have serious issues with new core classes and often get the hankering to remind us of their opinion.

Oh, hey, Dragon Master?

A suggestion for both of your 'club' threads:

A seperate listing for 'in proggress' classes.

Some classes are done, flat out, ready to play, while some are 'see, I have this idea.. '.

Heck, I've got -two- Scion threads now (Scion of the Flesh and Scion of Power, both of which play off each other), in different stages of progress. People who like to fiddle with new class ideas might love that kind of thing, but anyone who's actually looking for a class to -play-, -today-, is going to go "Uh.. so.. when do you think this'll be done?"

Same could go with your race thread, at that.

Just a suggestion. Nice work you're doing here, either way.

Hmm, thats an interesting idea. We do get a small amount of 'ideas' for classes- more mainly on the races club. I'll adress the issue there as well.

So, what do my top reviewers think?

The only problem i would see with it would be that some people just dump there classes here and then forget about this thread. Look at the index- half of the links haven't been updated yet. I could ask people who post work in progress classes to tell me, but there would still be some in the index that i don't know about-and it would be a hasel for me to go and hunt down the work in progresses from the new classes. It would also mean i might have some people coming up to me and going "Hey, you put this in the work in progress section, but its all done". Also, some people just post links here without even reading the first page- thus they miss a lot. My fear with that is that people would post there idea for a class or class in progress and i would put it in the new class section.
Hmm... i just sucked all the fun out of that idea then didn't i... sorry, that wasn't my intention. I really do like the idea, and would be willing to try it very much, but before i do anything i want some response from my top reviewers. Besides- its their club too. The idea may work better in the Races Club- its got a smaller index and a lot more 'idea' races/works in progress.

Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated. When i created this club i wanted it to be not something that i made, but something that everyone in the club helped make. I really do love it when i get ideas on the club. Little Black kitten helped me out heaps with ideas on the index- and so did Bootmobile. Any more would be much enjoyed.

Help folks.
I was thinking about play testing my Collector. I am currently in a 14th level game. Though I am very attached to Fade, I am eager to test this class if I can convince my DM. I have no idea when we will start a new game, and I am too busy with school to DM myself at this point. This train of thought brought up the following problem.

How should I determine the number and kind of spells a Collector would have stored in recepticals if the campaign doesn't start at first level?

If you haven't read The Collector, this will make no sence. Check it out, if you want to help.

I think it is a good idea as well, though I see all your points as valid Dragon Master.
I would suggest just adding a rider next to each class in the index, rather than two indexes.
Idea, WIP, Playtesting, Playtested, PT-editing, Complete.

I the case of my Collector put WIP.

If people are only dumping classes here, it's no big deal. They are not going to get all the benefits of the club, but we become better reviewers, with more ideas to work from. Don't bother chasing things down to add the classifications. Ask when they first post the class. If they don't answer then leave it blank.

All you can do is keep reminding people of the index, and ask for reviews. As club members we can help with this.
Consider yourself as chief librarian. You are not responsible for the quality of the books, or if people actually reads them, only for getting them on the shelves.

Maybe to help those looking for a class to play a one sentence decription of completed classes would be in order.
All of this is more work, but not as much as two indexes would be. I heartily thank you for all the work you have done so far.

A good suggestion- and one that i like very much. And i like the one sentence descriptions too- thats not too much work and i can do that easily. Thanks for your input master weaver- it is always appreciated and greatly thanked. As for people dumping classes- i don't have much trouble with that- i indeed like it, we get more classes on the index- this was more of an issue that happened when i first started up the club- as i was the only person doing reviews. If it hadn't of been for bootmobile and hes help, the club would have surley died. Even though we can always use more top reviewers- we have a lot more then we did back then.

As for your help on you collector master weaver- i'm not too sure how one would handle this. The problem is similar to my Spell Stealer class when you start on a level other then 1- how do you determine what spells and abilities it has stolen. I just ruled that you can choose, but the DM has final say. I ruled with spells that when making a 20th level character you can't assume that your spell stealer has been holding out for all that time and then just have stolen a whole bunch of 9th level spells- thats why spells must be stolen on the level when the steal spell ability is required. It may be an idea to use a method similar to that. I hope this has helped- its been a while since i've taken a look at your collector- i will have a look over it when i get some time. But for now, i go to bed.

Good point.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've reviewed at least two classes, and re-created two core classes (via humongous group efforts).

If I don't review a class, it's because my interests lie more in re-creating PHB core classes, instead of something completely new (and more often than not, these concepts are easily created with the multiclassing rules).

give me a link to those threads where you did a review and i'll put your name up in the top reviewers list. Keep your reviews up to date, and i'll keep your name up there. While its up there, you get a choice of what colour your name is in, custom smileys, and you become top of the list for other reviewers, including myself. Only request that we have is that you follow the guidelines to reviewing that is presented in my sig.

do we review the classes here or on their original post? And do we simply post a link to our review here if indeed we post the actual review on their original thread? I have some time today so I thought I'd pull my weight.

Master Weaver, first off: welcome to the club. I haven't posted in a while so consider this my triumphant return by welcoming a very capable person. You did a great job running the club while dragon master was away.

Secondly, I love the concept of the collecter. It is one that plays in the back of my mind whenever I write about my gaming world. You did a good job making this class up. Now, on to the suggestions:

Alignment: Good

Hit Dice : Good

Skills and Skill Points : These seem good and the number of points adequete. They represent what I percieve as what this class should be good at except for Appraise and Read Lips. Also, though Hide and Move Silently fit they are too roguish. Those are what I'd get rid of.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies : While simply simple weapons are okay I have some suggestions. Perhaps include a small selection of martial weapons, no more than 3-6, to give to choose one from. This will allow them some more viability without their stored spells. If there bag of recpticles is ever removed from them they are looking for their hides to be handed to them. It would also give them the option of some type of cover, who would ever think that an arcane spell user would use big weapons. I would believe that someone who absorbed spells would not be overly welcomed in the wide world of magic users and a guy carrying around a longsword just can't be a mage. It might save them some trouble. And if you won't give them an armor proficiency, perhaps a shield. It has none of the problems you said armor has, or I at least don't think it does.

BAB and Saves : These are good keep them. Anything else would throw it off.

Imbue Recepticle : It looks good until you consider this: Someone intends to cast wish against you, you have a feather, you pass the check, you have wish in a feather. You have just put a spell that has an experience cost of 5000 or more in a feather you probably picked off the ground and if I've read it right and my logic is functioning you don't have to pay the experience cost yourself, it would be pointless. Which leads into my next point, you give the collecter eschew materials (for all intents and purposes) for free; the difference is that this feat has a top of 1gp, if it's lower than that or that you can rid yourself of the materials. My suggestion is to keep that part in the collecter and add that if the spell has a special material component or focus the collecter requires one of approximate value or perhaps even the same. I.E. Animate Dead- it requires a black onyx gem of at least 50gp the spell caster must have as the resepticle of this spell and item that is of at least 50gp in value or even an onyx of that value. And one more thing, a possible limit to the number of resepticles a collecter can keep- perhaps twice the number of resepticles they can create per day so at 20th level they would have only 12 resepticles of each level. This may solve some questions and problems.

Capture Arcana : Ok, there needs to be a range limit, it will help balance out a lot- perhaps 30 ft at 1st, 60 at 10th and 90 at 20 th . You also need to make it perfectly clear that the spell needs to be cast at or within the collecters range and determine whether or not it is possibly to gain spells from magic items. As far as the check goes, how about opposed caster level checks. Everything else looks good.

Release : I would require some sort of verbal component to all the spells, this will help in balancing the casting process. Also perhaps make touch spells remain touch spells whether they be ranged or rays. Otherwise your doing good on this.

Capture Divine : Love the idea but move it to 10th level and make them able to capture divine spells that are 0 and 1st level there and move her up on that scale as she continues to gain levels. It takes some very great gumption to steal energy that has been channeled from a deity. This guy would be commiting the ulimate heresy against any temple and it's god.

Detect Magic : At this point though it is a great idea, detect magic at will is a little much.

Transfer Magic : Ok.

Ok, other things. Have you considered how this ability to "collect" spells works, is it an extrodinary, supernatural, etc. This is important as to antimagic things.
Are the recepticals magic devices, how do they interact with spells such as dispel magic and Mordekanen's Disjunction.
Is there a way for the spell caster to save her spell from being absorded like there is to avoid countering for counterspelling.
Have you considered how a good powergamer or min/maxer might abuse the ablities for this class?
As far as the releasing of spells from recepticles: have you considered that without components of any kind the chances of counterspelling the Collecter's spells is almost undoable?

If I have sounded harsh or any other such thing I do not mean to, I only wish to be as thorugh as possible. You have a great concept here it just needs fine tuning in the rules and text departments. I wish you luck and feel free to ask any questions of anything I have written.

The Claoked? Is that you? HAHA! Welcome back! It is good to see you. I have seen remnants of you throughout the boards and was wondering when you would make your triumphet return.
Everybody, this is The Cloaked. He and Little Black kitten helped me out a lot on the old boards (roughly just after boots first disappearnce and before Master Weaver came). I have been looking forward to your return. (I've even noticed you checking out the thread from time to time, :D)

I will update that link now, and its good to see that you've already started on some reviews. While i've got you, do you wish for any specific colour for your name to be in, as you are still a top reviewer.

doesn't seem to work, im new to this link-thing.

It's on the new classes board, the link there does work.
Just search for "wrestler" and "namfoodle sparklegem" on the classes boards. I'd love to know if there are any flaws.
One I've already taken care of is that when your wrestler encounters a dragon or something otherwise huge, you should not let him attack the dragon straightaway but take your rouge, monk or any other high dex creature from the party and trow it at that huge enemy. than you can attack.

I hope you find the class on the boards. Otherwise I am willing to post it again here, but it takes some placeto have all the info.

NOTE: its still the regular third edition.

thanks in advance

When Mr.Boot returns (if he ever does) i will request that he put this in his helpful list of links which is located at about the third post on the first page of the club. I see you've also added levels up to level 20. If i ever get around to making a guide to making new classes (which i doubt i will ever do, but i can dream right?) i must add this. Thankyou very much Cloaked.

Hmm, how did this get down to page 3?
Well, my first review since i've been back, and i plan on doing a lot more. I've posted it here as well as in your thread.

Ok JasperDM, I must appologise for the lateness of this review, as I have been busy with school and work. I plan on doing the expert some time soon as well.

At first this class came off as a little strange. My view of a defender has always been a tubby dwarf. This class incorporates aspects of the monk into it. I love this class idea and think that its great. The only problem I see with this class is the same problem I saw with the Prc dwarven defender (who wants to play someone who just stands there and gets hit). As an NPC class, I think this works great, and if you are someone who enjoyed playing a dwarven defender this class would work exceptionally well. Especially if they want to broden off from the ‘dwarven’ aspect of the defender.

HD: d12 may be a little high- I can see that a defender probably needs a lot of HP, but I think that maybe a d10 would work just as good.
Skills: Fine, balance seems a little out of place, but it still works well
Skill points: I think maybe 2+int is a little low. Defenders are already going to have a low intelligence (I assume) and putting there skills as 2+int may be just a little less. I’d say maybe 4+int.
Weapon proficiency: Armours and shields are good.
Attack bonus: This is good
Saves: At first I thought maybe having all the saves high would be a bit much, but I think they are fine after reading through the class fully.
Defensive stance/improved versions: This is very well done
Mettle: A little confusing at first with the explination, but it is fine. It probably was a good idea to remove improved mettle.
Born of the earth/soul of the earth: These are all good
Stable: Good
DR: Good, this works very well with the class
I will not fall: I love this ability, it works really well with the class
All in all, this class is exceptionally well balanced. I really can’t see how this class could be improved any more, because it seems really well done. The only thing that it lacks is the ‘fluffy stuff’. By fluffy stuff I mean relations, adventures, stuff like that. Apart from that, this class gets the thumbs up. Well done

Thanks heaps for the review Magicalelf. Thanks for the words of encouragement too, i've been swamped with homework and stuff and this thread seems to be falling to page 2 and three a lot lately...

If you would like, i will ad you to the top reviewer list, and you will become top of my list for my next review (next to JasperDM, i still owe him his Defender class review).

And, i'll just back up what Magicalelf said, if you do have a class hiding away somewhere, type it up and post it. We'd love to see it, and we'd love to see some more reviews. I'm not sure how many people actually use this class as a source of new material (if you do and you aren't a top reviewer, i'd be interested in knowing how useful this thread really is) but it is a great way to get publicity for your class, especially if you do a review of someone elses class (you scratch our back, we'll scratch yours i believe is the correct term... man... now i sound like i run a thieves guild... :D)

So, if you do do reviews, tell me. If you do have a class, show me. Please.

alright- this is getting too annoying. I pose a question to all- how would you feel if this thread was stickyed. I'm not just asking my top reviewers, i'm also anyone who may use this thread as a source of new material. It is obvious that it is a great place to find new classes and post new classes, and it is very obvious that people like to post new classes here. I'm considering getting this thread stickyed, because i'm sick of bumping it. The only thing that is mainly stopping me at the moment is the views of the people who visit this board frequently and the WizO's (they hate stickyed threads). So, just some input would be appreciated. If you don't want to see this thread stickyed, then tell me nicely at least.

Thanks for the enocuragement everyone (please, keep it coming, the more people who agree the more chances we have of getting the WizO's to agree, as i know how much they hate stickey threads). I may even try and get the races club stickyed latter, but my main efforst are being concerntrated on the classes club as its index and its reviewing numbers are greater. Besides having two stickeyed threads by one person is asking for a bit much. This club is not something that was produced only by me, and if it is stickeyed it is not something that [b] I [b] will have done all by myself. I have always said that this club is a community thing, and that everyone here is responsible for what happens to it and how it is run. If it is stickeyed, i would like to keep that feeling of community and that we currently have on this club, and i would like to continue to keep up the reviews. Not only is it an index of new material, it is also a great place to share ideas and do friendly and constructive reviews. Even though i have been lacking some of these myself lately, i will continue to encourage and continuie to do them to the best of my ability.

Dragon Master and company, I have finally decided to repost my Monk class. I made a few changes to fit it into 3.5 core rules, though further changes (and hopefully final changes) will be made in April when the 3.5 Psionics Handbook is released.

This is a psionic class, a replacement for both the core Monk and the Psychic Warrior in my campaign setting. I am sure it has a place in many people's campaign settings though. I feel that it offers many more customizable directions to the monk while adding an interesting feel to the class.

Here is the link: Xeviat's Monk Variant (Psionic Monk) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74277).

Please post your reviews and comments on the post itself. I'll let Dragon Master know so he can give the reviewers stars or what ever system he's doing now.

I am glad to see this club still in existance. When I have some spare time I'll look through the classes here and offer my opinions.

Making this a sticky thread would be great for new people coming to the classes board interested in what we do. I know it was one of the first places I came to on the boards, when I started. It was just what I was looking for. Thanks again Dragon Master.

It would also save the necessity of bumps, that interfer in the thread, as well as take up server space and loading time. Practical view.

Oh, thankyou so much (what would i do with out you Master Weaver). I've been so busy with work lately that i haven't had time to recommend the thread to anyone.

BTW- Sitcky isn't looking good. I got this email from one of the WizO's a couple of days ago (i won't say who):

I have forwarded your request to the RPG Boards Lead, WizO_Paradox. Most likely, stickying this is unlikely, but we may end up archiving it as a reference.

Thank you for your efforts.

I'm yet to get a response from Doxxie, so i'm taking that as a 'not going to happen'. Thanks to all who supported the thread. It looks like i'm going to just have to give this thread bumps, however.

In wandering through the pages I went to the PrC board. Shadowfoot has a list of PrC's stickied. His list also contains links to many of the classes here, including my collector, though I never posted info on it to him.

Not sure what to think of this. I certainly like the idea of having my class in more places so more people can see it. However, I'd like to have some control over where it is placed, or at least be asked before it appears elsewhere. Only polite, folks.

Shadowfoot's list is quite exaustive, and definately warrents the sticky. With reguards to this thread becoming sticky, sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

Dragon Master, I am mildly peeved. Who should I vent this at?

Shadowfoots thread has actually been around a lot longer then this thread has. Its allso been stickeyed a lot longer then this thread has been around. I'm pretty sure it was around when i started on these boards too. When i made the club, i had full knowledge of that, but shadowfoot wasn't doing classes then. He even posted some of his own classes here.

Shadowfoot doesn't ask people if they want there class/Prc on his compedium, but i have no objection to that. The reason why i ask is because i'm too lazy to go through the boards and find every new class posted. That and, i'd rather be on a more personal level with the people who post this at the club. Because it is that- a club, not a compedium.

Shadowfoot, however, is only posting 'core classes' on his compedium (and the Prcs... and every Prc and class from any known WOTC material)... i don't know what his definition of that is, but it doesn't include all new classes (correct me if i'm wrong on this please).

As for Shadowfoot's thread, well, every time i've had a person coming in here with a Prc, i direct them straight over to his compedium. The classes club isn't a compedium however, which is probably the main reason its not going to get stickyed. But, i would rather this club be joined community effort and not stickeyed, then just a list of stuff that i did by myself and being stickyed- if you get my drift. Unlike the classes club, shadowfoot doesn't do reviews (well, i'm sure he does)

If you do not wish for your class to be posted on his compedium, then just ask him to take it off. I'm sure he won't mind. As long as you do it nicely.lol. He has put mine up there, and i don't mind at all.

So, as to who you are peeved at, well, shadowfoot has been around longer then we have (actually, when i made this thread, i don't even think that i had knowledge of shadowfoots compedium).

Thanks Dragon Master.
As I said, mildly peeved. Mainly, bumps take up thread and server space. If for no other reason, this thread should be stickied. It's wiz' money though.

Don't have a problem with Shadowfoot. Would like to be asked though. Again, politeness issues.

Vented successfully, no explosion eminent.:D

Ah, i'm good to see that your class has been updated. I have seen JasperDM and other members working hard with you on that Master Weaver, and i'm very happy to see that. I will have another look at it when i can spare some time (have i ever been not busy?lol).

And yes, what the WizO's chose to do with this thread is there business. But, there is no denying that an reasonable amount of people want this thread stickeyed. And i haven't heard anyone object. In fact... in the very long time that this thread has been up (i don't know how long- this is the 192nd response and the old thread was up to 194) i haven't had a single complaint. About anything. Even people who don't seem to like new classes have seemed to support the club. But, again, it is doxxies choice. Just wish he'd give me a final answer so i can stop wasting board server space about it.

Finally, class is over and I can return the favor JasperDM.

Flavor. Lots of potential. This is the guy that you want to have standing at the entrance to the princess' chambers. It could be the training path of a monistary where they guard the relic key to life the universe and everything. (42) As a PC I can see it as hard to play unless the player possibly dedicates themself to the defence of another PC. Lots of reasons for this. Love, blood debt, familial relationship, as bonded hireling, friendship. On the otherhand, a defender who has been moved would be in disgrace and be searching to redeem herself. Because she failed, the oracle was murdered and she is now an out cast, looking for someone to defend, but conflicted, doubting her skill to do so.

OK. Sometimes I have to see roleplaying possibilities before I can look at the other stuff.

The only things I can see are maybe switching mettle to 4th level and subsituting the combat expertise feats for the new 3.5 endurance and diehard feats. Don't have the notes on stabilize self, but it sounds like what die hard is. Please correct me If I am wrong.

Weapons: I might give them piercing reach weapons than can be set like the long spear can. Ranseur, Lance, and maybe Halberd and Trident since they could be used the same way. This would be a favored tactic of the Defender. If they are charging you, better to have them impale themselves before they get a chance to hit you.

More later.

Mr.Nuke, thankyou for posting your class, however i have a small request. Next time you post a class, a link will be just fine. A whole class is untidey, and makes it hard for people to view and read current topics. It also means that i would be putting your class/es in the 'no link section' which is down the bottom of the index. Luckily i saw your thread and i put them in the main index. If its alright, would you mind editing back your post a bit, as it does make the club a little messy. (Don't worry, its still in the index). Thanks

P.S. Everyone does it every now and again.

Shoes, thanks for the class (you're begining to make a name out for yourself... almost like goblins and all his races...)

EDIT: Just did a quick count and our total classes count is now over 70! I believe i may go through and update the index a little bit and give a brief 'explination' as to what each link has (for example, if its a variant, or if its mutliple classes).

Review of the ShapeChanger

BAB is fine
HD is fine
Skill points are fine. I'd drop the forgery skill.

My first thought is what is the purpose of the change weapon ability? Can you give an example or 3 that shows how this ability would be beneficial?

I am not sure about making the alter abilities spell like abilities, but good that you defined the abilites to start off with. It took me 3 months before I realized I needed to do that with my Collector. I can see how the alteration would cause AoO, but if you don't want them to loose the ability due to AoO then just call them extrodinary abilities and forget the AoO question. Since they are spell casters, they will have plenty of AoO coming their way as it is. Don't beat them up unnecessarily.

I might define the Armor bonus as a natural armor. Since they can alter their apperance, then they would learn to toughen their skin against attacks.

Is this an attempt at making the Shifter PrC in to a full 20 level class?

It may be underpowered due to the extream limitation on the schools of spells they can cast.

Great class to multi with a rogue.
"It wasn't me officer."
"You were at the scene of the crime."
"No officer, the one who stabbed her was tall and didn't have the deformed left arm, like this guy."

Review of the Ovate

I recall now. I read the flavor text but was too tired to deal with reviewing a spell casting class.

Wide awake now.

First  for the flavor text. Even if you don't do a review, read this. It is a great short story.

Just a clarification, are the numbers after the special abilities spells known, or spells per day? There is a great code for making the charts that was posted in the new classes club. Maybe worth the effort to edit that part if you have time.

Does the unarmed strike increase? Per level? Or some other progression?

Everything else looks great and clear. Have you playtested? How did it go?
The Master Weaver Is Warped

08-20-03, 05:24 PM
Dragon Master, can you put a link to the post that has the code for formatting charts in the index. I have been recommending its use to others. It seems that this would be the easiest way for people to find it. I used it for my Collector and it works well.

Sure- i'm working on a new design for the index, and i'm going to put Boots list of useful links in there. I wanted him to manage that, however he still isn't back yet... wonder where he is...
In any event, i'm going to be going to every single class in the index and having a general look at it. I will then put side comments as to how 'far' the class is in terms of design. I will be doing this personally, and if the people aren't satisdfied with the comment i've made (the comments will be things like "Second version, has had X amount of responses.... its not liek i'll be going "I don't like this class" or "This class is good" its all just how far it is in terms of design) then they can ask me to change it. The reason why i won't be asking them for there comments is the task would be too difficult, and i wouldn't get around to everyone (top reviewers like you guys i can access easily, so i'll just ask you what you would like).

I will be putting a link to my guide to reviewing in the index, as well as The cloaked's adapted version of Mr. DragOOn's Prc table (i'm assuming thats what you are talking about Master Weaver... or are you talking about something else and i've got no idea what it is that you are saying?)
Also- i'm still working on JasperDM's review, then i've got to do Magical Elfs, then i've got to have another look at Master Weaver's redoo of the collector, and i have to take another look at the cloaked's redoo of his class, and i then have to take a look at JasperDMs race from the races club. At the moment i'm at school, and 2morrow i have an assignment due. So, i hope to get it done on the weekend. Remind me if i don't get it done please.

I'd first like to complement some of the class creations I've seen here. Some great ideas.

But, ... no 'buts' - since many of you were probably expecting that :)

Rather, as a thought, I think it may be helpful both in design, and as a reader, to include a comparison to other similar classes.

E.g. What are the pluses & minues of the Tinkerer vs. the Inventor and the Gnome Artificer?
Or for that matter vs. a Mage (since some of the inventions nearly replicate spell effects)

In short, why would a Player want one class over another?

Also, in which 'game styles's is the class likely to be under or over powered? (power = 'affect' x 'probabilty of use' x 'versatility').

E.g. One of the reasons why I think the Gnome Artificer stinks is that most of our games we don't come across that much money.

After UnCon, and after i get all my reviews updated, i plan on doign some massive work with the index. I will be going through personally and 'examining' each class- i may put comparisons to the core classes in there, but i have no intention of comparing them to another class already posted. The purpose of the club is to provide a friendly environment where classes can be reviewed in a helpful, yet constructive way. I will not tolerate comments such as "Well, that swasbuckler class sucks, this one is much better". The aim of the club is not to compare classes, but to offer advice on how they can be improved. Granted, if someone did post ANOTHER swashbuckler class (not picking on anyone there, just using that as an example as A LOT of peopel have made swashbuckler classes) and it was in need of some work, i may point them in that direction for ideas, but i would not be making comparisons.

When I update the index, it will have several things such as style, what stages of development the class is in, etc. I won't be putting which one is 'over powered' or which is 'underpowered' as that is simply a personal opinion. I may run a classes club, but i don't make the rules for what is balanced and what isn't. The update will be put in terms of 'design' aspects- and the comments i make will not be my opinion. They will be the stage of development i believe the class is in. If a person is not happy with the comment, they are free to write there own and i will happily change it. I would go around and ask everyone what they would like posted, but as one can see there is a lot there- and half of them haven't even updated there links yet- let alone giving me a couple of sentences about there class. The fact is, a lot of the people who posted the class probably don't visit the boards any more.

Review of the expert:

FREE TIME! Ok Jasper, I have finally got some free time! Heheh! Now, I must say I’m very impressed with this class.
Fluffy Stuff: Could do with some more fluffy stuff, but the name pretty much says all
Skills: Good. However, I personally have a problem with 10… I would put maybe 9 or 8. Ten just seems to cross the line for me, but that’s my opinion and I haven’t play tested the class.
Skill Points: This could be abused A LOT. For example, if a first level character had a natural 18 and put it on his Intelligence, this could make this class one super duper skill class. Having a look, that’s 4+10 x 4 =56. Max out all skills, that’s 14 skills all together. If that is the main idea of the class, which it appears to be, I guess that could be ok, but that still seems like way too much to me. But then again, with only 10 class skills (which they chose) as well as knowledge and craft, I guess its really not that bad… hmm… well, that does turn out good then.
Weapons and Armour: Good.
BAB: Hmm… I’m thinking around ¾… MO, with no spells, they should have some fighting potential.
Saves: Good.
Sage Knowledge: Good
Skill Focus: Good
Instant Recall: Excellent!
Applied knowledge: Even better! This is a good ability, and I like it.

All in all, a little on the weak side in the ways of effective combat- but definitely a handy guy to have around. Hi, just happened to see this thread. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with my Building from the Ground Up (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93173) project. I will get on your class as soon as i can. The reason why I had a look at Ashlands because it was just a concept, which is quick for me, and i'm a person who is always late on time. With the reviews, i'm a lot slower, which is very unfortunate. Over 3/4 of the classes in the index are still waiting from a review by me, so i may be a long time. But i'm getting there.

DragonMaster, and friends,

My son JesterDude has just registered with the boards. :D (pain in the butt parental permission form, like I need another thing to remember to do. Electronic sig, would be so useful here.)

He is interested in different races, and half-breeds of monsters, so you will most likely see him in your Races club. He's been playing for about 4 months now, and learning quickly.

Please welcome him warmly when he posts and help him develop the campaign and races he has ideas for.

Now, for me, I'm checking in, but as a Junior, my course load is a bit heavy. I don't have time to review at the moment. Look for me on US Thanksgiving break if they don't bury me in projects. I'm still working through the index. Dragon Master you have not been abandoned.

:D yeah I know :D

I wanted to create the class to be able to have alot of battlefield options both in the planning stages and in the actual battle itself. So I based it off of the Bardic Music abilities and I thought that whatever I gave to Battlefield Commands I needed to give to War Cries.

Dragon Master

09-09-03, 06:23 PM
pretzz, if you have done a review, i would love to put you on the list to. The list is only there to encourage more people to do reviews. Thus everyone is not just dumping classes here, expecting to get a review of there own class. Its a 'scratch my back, i'll scratch yours' arangement. Just link me to a helpful and constructive review you've done, and i'd love to put you in the list. This goes for anyone. What i'd like to see is everyone working together to better each others classes.
prettz007

09-09-03, 06:58 PM
No, I haven't done any reviews yet Dragon Master, I would like to do some BUT I'm not the best person to review classes. I seem to have problems with balance, when it is something someone else has created and at times when it is something I have created.

I will do some I don't know if they'll be constructive but I will. I do argee with you that if someone has a clss posted here they should review someones class, it is the price to pay and one I thik it is worth it.

Note this is not a 'code of conduct'. Its a guide. You don't have to follow by it if you don't want to, falapax's reviews are scattered in a single thread- and these work just fine (they follow the same princables, and they help to build the class along the way which is great, maybe even better then a one off review).

To entice reviews of the collector, (break from classes and this thread wasn't even on the 5 day radar)

Senobeh tl'Lor is a collector who uses small bone carvings to capture spells in.
Her mother Oyo, was a prositute in the Steeps dock area. (the steeps are the gettos in my city campaign I'm working on.) Fearn, Senobeh's father, was the owner of a stew shop in the Steeps.

Oyo and Fearn had an arrangement. He always filled her bowl when she came by. She always "visited" him first after her weekly "bath" at the temple of the Priestess.

Eventually, Oyo got pregnant. When she became too visibly so to practice her craft, Fearn let her share his rooms. During this time she helped him in the stew shop. Fearn figured the child was as likely his as any other, but this did not obligate him to her. They were friends. They helped each other.

During the last month Oyo was returning late from the South Anchor market place, where she was buying Fearn's monthy supply of herbs and spices. This was the Fall, and it was getting dark early. She was attacked. She made it back to Fearn's stew shop, hemorrhaging badly. There were two hand prints burned into her belly and no sign of the child. Oyo was hysterical and raving. Fearn, with the help of a priestess cared and healed her.

The insanity stayed however. The priestess said she can only heal those who choose to be healed. What ever Oyo experienced, she had no desire to remember. The priestess also said insanity was not a limitation to becoming a priestess, and took Oyo to the temple with her. Oyo returned to Fearn's stew shop with her bowl in hand. Twice more the priestess tried to make Oyo stay at the temple. Each time Oyo returned to Fearn's stew shop, bowl in hand. "This is where she chooses to be." The priestess told Fearn. "You are under no obligation but that simple fact. We would rather not imprision her. Will you care for her?" Fearn agreed.

Oyo had periods of lucidity. Once, she told Fearn that she knew he cared for her, and she loved him for it. She asked him to marry her. "Quickly, before I remember and am lost again." Fearn agreed to that as well. Senobeh was concieved during one of these lucid moments.

At first, ajacent businesses tried to drive Fearn and Oyo away. They feared their businesses would suffer having a mad woman near by. However, as Fearn's story of compassion spread, his shop came to be called Compassions' Stew. People would bring thier bowls to him first, and his neighbors prospered as well.

Fearn is not sure he deserves this reputation. He's not inclined to give stew away, but he never stops Oyo when she does. He often finds his landing washed of the morning slops, extra fire wood, drawings and other art left at his door. Once his sign was enchanted to never fade. Fearn is not sure how a bargain he made to get laid once a week earned him a loving but insane wife, an unearned reputation for compassion, a very profitable stew shop, a haunted daughter and a happy loving son.

Senobeh is haunted by the child that was not born of Oyo. Who ever attacked Oyo deliberately killed the child. The child's shade lived in Oyo's womb with Senobeh until she was born. As Senobeh was delivered the shade grabbed her ankle and was birthed with her. What ever residual energy was left from killing the child, Senobeh absorbed in the womb. This is the origin of her collecting powers. The child shade, Senobeh's half brother, is always with her, looking at everyone she meets to find his murderer. Senobeh would very much like to put her brother to rest, but since he is an infant, unable to talk, and her mother is insane, no one knows who did the crime.

Early on, Senobeh became fasinated with the bones left over from making the stew. She started carving them when she was eight. When a priestess noticed the magic flames dimmed whenever Senobeh passed, she asked Fearn to allow Senobeh to be trained at the temple school. The little bone carvings took on new meaning during her training, and eventually became her recepticals for her collecting energy. She has taken to carving hair pins. In the process of putting up her hair every morning, she embues them with her energy. Her hair has never been cut. It hangs to the back of her knees.

Tag you're it! A challenge to the club. If you have a class listed, and it doesn't have flavor text, think about adding some. If you have play tested a class posted here, please tell us how it worked, and how you made it come alive. Reviews are great, play test feed back would be above and beyond the call to duty.

Um, I don't think I have 'flavor text' on my classes and I don't think I can. That can of text and me don't get along real well, so I can't really do that sorry. But I did playtest my Vagabond and he worked very well. I just played him like Vash the Stempede from the anime Trigun. He was a lecher and loud and kinda one brick shy of a cart (if you know what I mean). It was very fun and was overpowered, well maybe a little but none of the classes are truly balanced.

One of these days I'll figure out how you guys get all those cool personal ones but until then I'm stuck with the standard ones.

I'm still not even sure what I think of the Magus class as I just kind of threw it together in a hurry. I think the main issue with it is whether to just go ahead and give it first level spells at first level like wizards and sorcerers and reduce it's hit dice to d4 instead of d6 like it is now. I'm still hoping for that promised review from baoban sith if you are out there ;)

Also I've made a new class called Kung Fu fighter if anybody wants to take a look at it.

I have a whole bunch of custom classes, but I'm not sure where to start and if there is a limit of classes and also if I should submit classes that already have been made, like the Priest and Knight??
The Master Weaver Is Warped

12-31-03, 10:22 AM
No Problem Robert Rath.
Submit them all. Post them each as their own thread on the classes board. Then post links here. Dragon Master updates the index on the first post in this thread.
Since many classes use the same names, but go in different directions, post the knight and priest too, though if you are feeling creative, give them new names before posting them to the classes board.

Robert Rath, great, but do they have titles? It is easier for Dragon Master to list them that way, and for reviewers to pick classes to review. Also, if you are inclined, checking out other posted classes and doing reviews is nice club manners.

Welcome People to our new Game Environment.

Add to what Finwe said - you can think of threads here as inter-related - where new threads can be cut for specific "between Foundation" interactions.

E.g. "The Foundation Games" thread, "Grand Council" thread - etc.

We'll cut one soon - just for the pooling of minds and to get your thoughts about stuff.

again welcome

...and baby makes three. Comment away! Yes, it's a derivative of the whole Magic: The Gathering thing, but I like to think I actually managed to catch the mystical essence, and not the "tossing bits of paper" part.

The Channeler:

Channelers are an odd and reclusive type of arcane spellcasters that access magic in what appears, to most, as a counter-intuitive manner. While it makes being a channeler far more hazardous than the standard paths of magic, it also has far more potential for power.

Game rule information:
Channeler have the following game statistics.
Abilities: Charisma is important for chanelers, since much of their power comes from willpower and force of will. Intelligence helps a channeler amass the information she needs to learn of new lands he can bind herself to. Constitution is useful to a channeler to endure the trials of travel
Alignment: Any.
Hit Die: d4.
Base Attack Bonus: Low (as Wizard)
Saves: low Fort and Ref, high Wis

Class Skills:
The Channeller's class skill are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decypher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Heal (Wis), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Knowledge (dungeoneering) (Int), Knowledge (geography) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Knowledge (Arcana) (Int), Knowledge (The Planes) (Int), Listen (Wis), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Spellcraft (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis) and Use Magic Device (Cha).
Skill points at first level: (2 + Int modifier) x 4.
Skill points at each additional level: 2 + Int modifier.

Table: The Channeler
Level - Base Attack Bonus - Fort Save - Ref Save - Will Save - Special
1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Landbind, Waken Bond, Tap Land, Create Spell Token, Activate Token
2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Quick Channel 1
3rd +1 +1 +1 +3
4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Quick Channel 2
5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Swift Channel 1
6th +3 +2 +2 +5 Quick Channel 3

Class Features:
All of the following are class features of the channeler.

Weapon and armor proficiencies: Chanelers are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield.

Landbind(Ex): Starting at first level, a channeler can establish a bond with any defined area of land she is physically present in. This bond takes 1 turn to establish (during which the channeler must concentrate exclusively on forming the bond), and lasts indefinitely once created. For the purposes of this power, a "land" is one, single area of terrain of a single type, seen as a whole. This "wholeness" is relative, but generally, a single named area counts as a "land". Most "lands" can be bound to an infinite amount of channelers with no harm, but there are exceptions. Bonds with lands are dormant unless awakened.

Waken Bond(Ex): As a free action which does not provoke an attack of opportunity, a channeler can awaken a bond with any of the lands he has previously bonded with on the same plane she is currently in. Waken Bond can only be done once per round, unless some other ability specifically states that it allows the awakening of a bond. A chaneler can only have as many bonds active as her level + her Constitution modifier. A bond remains wakened for 1 round per channeller level + the channeler's Charisma bonus.

Tap Land(Ex): As a free action, a channeler can draw power, called Mana, from a land through an awakened bond to herself and use it to cast spells. Tapping a land can be done as many times a round as a channeler wants, but only once per bonded land. Power drawn must be used in the round it is drawn, or it damages the channeler, inflicting 1d6 points of untyped damage per unused tapped land.

Create Spell Token(Su): A channeler cannot cast spells directly, as the power of the raw mana she calls from lands is too massive to be focused by her mind alone. Instead it is channeled through spell tokens, constructions of magic that manifest the power a channeler calls. Spell Tokens can only be created from magical items (scrolls, wands, staves, rods, rings or wondrous items that allow the user to cast spells, usually), or tomes that describe certain obscure process for converting tokens to other forms (some of which are magics only applicable to channelers). Creating a Spell Token uses charges, for charged items, or uses per day, as if the item was normally used. Creating a spell token takes 1 day for a level 1-4 spell, 2 days for a level 5-6 spell, 3 days for a level 7-8 spell and 4 days for a level 9 spell. Succesfully creating a spell token requires a Spellcraft Check (DC 10 + Spell Level *3). Failure expends the charges or use of the item from which the token is created. Tokens can be created from items activated with UMD. Note that a chaneler actually has no spell list or his own for purposes of using scrolls, wands and other spell completion items.

Activate Token (Ex) : As a standard action which provokes an attack of opportunity, a channeler can channel mana through a spell token to release the spell it contains. This causes the spell token to become dormant for 7 days, and casts the spell at the channeler's caster level. The channeler makes all decisions on casting the spell as if she was casting it herself (which, in essence, she is). Any feats that apply to spellcasting can be used with channeling, including spell focus, spell penetration and metamagic feats (though feats such as spell preparation cannot, since the chaneller does not cast the spells directly).

A spell token requires one point of mana per level of the spell contained to activate. In addition, certain spells require mana drawn from specific types of lands, as determined by their descriptors:

Descriptor - Land type
========================================
Air, Water, Mind-Affecting: Ocean, Lake, Shore.
Fire, Chaotic, Earth, Electricity: Mountain, Volcano.
Darkness, Fear, Evil, Death: Swamp, Marsh
Lawful, Light, Good: Plains
Acid, Sonic, Cold: Forest

At the DM's options, other lands might provide mana of specific descriptor types. For instance, an abandonned graveyard could provide mana of the Death, or Evil descriptor. A Channeler automatically knows the types of mana a bonded land can provide once he had bonded.

A spell token with any of these descriptors must have mana drawn for 1 seperate source for every three levels of the spell. Any number of spell tokens can be activated in a round. A spell token cannot be used by a class without the Tap Land ability, even with Use Magic Device, since that skill does not actually provide the power the token needs. A token can only be activated if it is readied (held in the channeler's hands and focused on). A channeler can ready 1 token for every point of Intelligence above 10, to a maximum of 7 (though this limit can be modified).

Planar Channeling(Ex): At 10th level, a chaneller can use Plane Shift once per day, as per the spell of the same name. At 10th level, the channeler's Waken Bond and Tap Landabilities extend across planar boundaries.

Quick Channel(Ex): Starting at level 2, a channeler can tap lands or activate tokens made from 1st level spells as a quick action that draws an attack of oportunity. The channeler can activate as many tokens per round as she wishes. This ability improves by one spell level ever 2 levels.

Swift Channel(Ex): Starting at 5th, a channeler can tap lands or activate tokens made from 1st level spells as an out-of-turn quick action. This ability improves by 1 spell level every 5 channeler levers.

A first level Chaneler begins adventuring with 3 0-level spell tokens and 1 1st-level token, and one bonded land.

...hehe, not for this thread. Cat denied moving it back, but he had good reasons and good points. I can restart the thread in the classes board, but i've basically got to change the name. But, if I do that, it'll just be a mimic of Shadowfoot's classes compedium- with the od post from me saying 'yeh, i'll do a review sometime... this century...'

Personally, I lack the time in my life to be maintaining a thread such as this. I'm in my last year of high school, and not doing nearly as well as i'd like to.

Has been fun but... sorry to all those people that I said i'd do a review for, and never got round to it. And extra special thanks to the top reviewers as well for their dedication to the thread, I definately couldn't have done it without you.

I guess the thread will remain open, but I doubt i'll be working on it anymore (wasn't like I was before it got moved either though). Please note, my descision to not maintain this thread any more IS NOT because it moved to the guild house boards, but simply because I lack the time in my life to be giving out detailed constructive reviews every second day. I will not deny that this thread has been dying a slow death for some time now.

Again, thanks to everyone who supported the thread, and you might see me around every now and again checking up on things. This is definately not the end of me here at the boards, or the wizards community however, i've been participating in a few threads over at the map of the planes, and will continue to do so, and do post and lurk everynow and again over here in the dnd boards. As well I also spend some time in the wizards chat room when I can spare it.
