| jagggar03-01-05, 06:33 PM | This is the place to pull up your favorite chair, and kick-back and relax with your friends and your favorite legal beverage according to your age and location. We'll talk about just about anything. It's suggested that alignment discussions are held within one of the several alignment based guilds. While this is the Players' Lounge, expect the GMs and DMs to drop by if they have the time and are kind enough to grace us with their presence. This foundation is open to everyone and is not participating as an In-Game guild. Feel free to discuss characters and plots however. The following posts are reserved in case we ever come up with ideas we really wish to share with others and because the Foundation Head is greedy and wants the first few posts. |

| jagggar03-01-05, 06:36 PM | New Home of jagggar's Sig Quotes: Kind of like an elevator, but for the universe. I think.Picking up a template is like multi-classing your species.(raises a shaking finger) In my day, we walked to school butt naked in the snow, up hill both ways! We rolled 3d6 per stat IN ORDER, and kept what we got, and liked it! We felt lucky if our DM gave us a +1 sword by 15th level; heck we felt lucky to get past 3rd level! Paladins had to be human, and there was none of this 'blackguard' business. If you screwed up, you had a fighter, end of story. Demihumans had level caps because 'that’s how it was.' Fighters were totally useless at higher levels, laughably so, and that's how it's supposed to be! We didn't have any of these fancy smancy skills to make everything nice and easy-- oh no!-- We dealt with NWPs that were so overly vague that half the time we didn't know if our characters were writing poetry or turning summersaults! If you rolled a one for HP at first level that was TFB. Just hope you don't fall off of a horse and die because a level one character is NOT worth the cost of a raise dead spell. And another thing: we didn't deal with any of this high-falootin 'metamagic' jive that you kids are so fond of. In my day, the only maximized fireballs that we had to play with were the ones spewing out of red dragons! And don't get me started on the superiority of THAC0!!!!As far as I'm concerned you're all genderless gobs of text. And since "he" is a generic pronoun in proper English, it is what I use to refer to any given person. I'd put that in my sig, but it's a bit crowded as is. |

| I wish I was03-01-05, 07:31 PM | Hey, I guess I'll come in and have a chill. So... How is every one? Fun for the whole family? Whatever... Seer comes over and sits on a bean bag and drinks some crazy brown concoction. That was pretty sad... |
| Kingside_Bishop03-01-05, 08:01 PM | KB opens the frij, whips out a Mug Root Beer, pulls up his blue recliner, puts it in the "sleep" position, and proceeds to relax. This place should double as the Player's Lounge/FAQ, for when the games get going again. That way, new players would be able to post their questions and introduce themselves to everyone at the same time. It could be like our Rec Room, but for Guild Housers. That way, we'd all know eachother pretty well. Sticky, sticky I say! |

| Kingside_Bishop03-01-05, 09:54 PM | I think the BLI should be in-character, while this should be out-of-character. *walks in* *opens the fridge* *pulls out a bottle of chilled crow blood* mmmm, drow blood....... so, anyone here play RoN? What's RoN? Hmmm... crow blood. |
| jagggar03-01-05, 10:00 PM | I think the BLI should be in-character, while this should be out-of-character.That's what I was thinking. And I don't think BLI has periodical discussions on playing styles and thoughts. A discussion I'd like to see once we all get settled into the new rules would be on playing a character of a different gender and how characters might react to having their sex changed. |
| Demonfey03-01-05, 10:02 PM | Fair enough. |

Sonora, California! On that note, why is it that no one actually puts their location in their location section? I mean, if someone found out my real name, I could see a problem. But even then, they'd have to track me down in a bustling metrolpolis of at least 25,000 people. At least! And so what if the stalker is also a hacker, and could somehow find out my personal information? If he could do that, he could probably find out where I live easily enough. Anyway, I've never played Rise of Nations -- heard of it though, in a vague sort of way. A game I did just get, however, is Civilization III. It's awesome, but entirely too warlike, and thus unrealistic. I'm in the process of modding it (it's really easy with Civ III -- it comes with what I think is quite possibly the best map editor I've ever seen). |

If he could do that, he could probably find out where I live easily enough.Yep, wondered that every now-and-then myself. Actually, one of my first thoughts for a topic was going to be something along the lines of "What timezone are you in and when are you usually avalible?" except with correct spelling. . . Then I was thinking the next "led discussion" could be on racism. In my general sociology class we were given a list of North American values. Suprising or not, racism and group superiority was on the list as a value. It hit me last night/this morning that it is a value if you assume that most of the people on the boards (What's a DM to do? board specifically) are from N.A. It shows when the what's-a-paladin-to-do-when-you-kill-the-whole-village-of-kobolds/gnolls/orcs-and-you-find-little-ones-of-that-kind? One of the popular answers is that you should be merciful and kill them because you ain't gunna find anyone to take them in and dragging them around with you into the dungeons and stuff is basically killing them anyway. The other fairly racist answer is to leave them there, I should ask if that's with or without supplies. And the only answer I really think a player aiming for exalted should go for would be "What do you mean there is no place for poor orphans such as these?" paladin trecks out for a while with the rag-tag band of orphans along side. If there truely is no place for them, "I am truely sorry my friends, I cannot journey on with you, at least not at this time." And I just got a character idea even better than Lucinda the half-orc paladin! And now I just realized that that thing does have a purpose. Two now that I think about it. Eliminates penalties for disguising as opposite gender if you wear it. And you could wear it and disguise yourself as your original gender and if someone catches you they'll be like, "Ah-ha! We've caught you now- What the? She's a man!" (Note to self: watch Spaceballs again and edit in quote in place of own.) |

| alaron03-08-05, 12:02 PM | No on the RoN note, but dose any one know anything about Fallout 3? |
| jagggar03-08-05, 09:51 PM | FRESH :cookie: s!!! (Able to bake them while waiting for e-mails from my fellow rules people. And I'm still waiting people.) Happy International Women's Day! Hmm, wonder if I can talk the GMs into having all male characters taking XdY damage. . . I only know that there's about 2,090,000 hits on google for it. I'm not too much of a computer gamer. At least not the ones you have to buy. . . (And yes I'm into being legal about stuff I get.) |
| I wish I was03-08-05, 10:29 PM | I heard about that day, but I didn't know that it was celebrated in America, and perhaps it isn't. I heard it from a foreign exchange student, a girl from Kyrgyzstan (*pats on the back* if you've heard of that country), but yeah, that would be interesting if they would do that... is there an international man's day? Probably not . . . sexist . . . random grumbling . . . oh well, I suppose that makes up for all the past descrimination. I am so glad that i have to SUFFER for the acts of my ancestors. I suppose I don't really want to get into this argument, so . . . uh . . . I'm done! |
| jagggar03-08-05, 10:47 PM | Well, I know about it as a combination of Google and my campus having some fairly liberal people here. Quite entertaining, some of the posters that are up. But no, I do agree that there is some degree of sexism (even though I am female and a woman). And I do predict that there will come a point in time where the group has to fight for an "White Anglo-saxon Protestant" Month. I tell you, I'm a white mutt. . . I don't know where I come from. All I know is that my forefathers oppressed the Blacks and Native Americans and Latino . . . and my foremothers. But yeah. . . |
| Dyne03-09-05, 12:47 AM | *Raids the fridge* *Kicks back on a La-Z-Boy* Oh yeah. That's what I'm talking about. |

It's awesome, but entirely too warlike, and thus unrealistic. I'm in the process of modding it (it's really easy with Civ III -- it comes with what I think is quite possibly the best map editor I've ever seen). Must be better than Civ II. Ever try war in Civ II? It's really messy. There's really no such thing as a "big battle" or "big war," unless you like fighting for hundreds of years over a little spot of land. And if you want there to be some big guy (that goes around conquering everything) to fight against (there are plenty throught history, right?), you have to be it yourself. Everyone else is too whimpy, even at the most difficult setting. Bah. I still play it anyways. :P |
| Droga03-09-05, 02:15 AM | *enters with a 20lb book titled "Skygge Ideas"* *Takes a bottle of Mt. Dew* *Falls over from too much weight* *crawls to a couch* I need to stop making these guys. Theres just far too much about them in my head to keep writing down. So what's everyone's favorite gaming experience? Doesn't have to be something that happened in game, could be just at the table or chatting about a game, something dealing with a game. Whatever the hell was your favorite thing. |
| turalisj03-09-05, 06:52 AM | you could just make them parasites that just combine thier hosts bodies with the shadow plane. sorta like the gu'old (or howerver you spell them) from stargate sg-1. |

Doesn't have to be something that happened in game, could be just at the table or chatting about a game, something dealing with a game. Whatever the hell was your favorite thing.Heheheheh... Anyway, not actually dealing with my character, but another character. My umm. . . not the best DM (and actually prefers the term GM, even when running D&D) isn't the most plan ahead DM. Anyway, we were in his twist of Rokugan with the standard D&D races. Party half-orc barbarian was considered of slave caste and wanted to get out of that. So he had a set of challenges. I can't really remember the first two challenges, but oh the third. . . Gothmog's Chaotic Good. The challenge/trial/test thing: He was taken into a room with another half-orc and told this half-orc had commited a crime and must be put to death. If he didn't do it, both he and the other half-orc would be put to death. While not present, me and the LS Cleric's player (he seemed to value Law over Good to an extreme) were sort of doing the shoulder conscience thing. LS Cleric was saying to do it, he has to obey orders. . . I was going with a bit of choatic bent since my character was Chaotic Neutral (and I think I've learned I can't play CN in a cooperative game, but bustout the backstabbing!), they don't have any right to tell you what to do, you're your own half-orc. Then it hit me: "Oh :censored: . If he does kill him, he fails the test. This isn't testing obeidence, it's testing moral fiber." I then started to try to get Mr. Cleric to cut it out. In the end, Gothmog made the right decision. But man was there tension. I didn't really care for much else outside of that in that game. I had a blatent plothook that the DM never exploited, and he brought in a 14th level DMPC just so we could fight a devil/demon from some book he bought and we were like 3rd level with special elemental weapons. *not-so-excited hand wave* |
| Dyne03-09-05, 07:57 PM | Why do so many people interpret Law as being "blindly do what anyone tells you"? I play plenty of Lawful Good characters, but my immediate reaction would be to ask "What crime did he commit that earned the penalty of death? What evidence have you that he committed this crime? What were the circumstances under which he committed the crime?" But then again, I tend to play all of my characters more Good than Lawful, so they never end up Lawful Stupid. I always play Law as being completely honest and transparent, having nothing to hide, and preferring straight-forwardness as opposed to sneaking around, lying, etc. A Lawful Good character in my mind could be like a Monk who never loses his focus, remaining unwavering no matter how hardly pressed, and remaining completely straightforward and honest. Has anyone here seen the movie "Life is Beautiful?" It's a very good movie, portraying the lives of a Jewish Italian family during World War II. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. It even made me cry, although I very rarely cry. But then again, stuff about World War II always makes me soft, especially things involving the Holocaust. |
| Droga03-09-05, 08:09 PM | A lot of Lawful Goods that I've seen act just like Sil's "neutral good" Kill all evil and all that crap. I've played with a guy who decided that since we let him hold the party loot, he wanted to donate it because it was the right thing to do. We stopped him of course, but damn, Lawful Stupid all the way. |

| Kingside_Bishop03-10-05, 01:57 AM | Yeah, well, Civ 3 has a great map editor. When you turn their aggresivenes up, and the game's difficulty up, it's sometimes hard to get a break (if a conquest game is what you're after). Plus, you can give civs defined starting locations, and even place cities for them. So, if you want to go against a huge civ trying to dominate you, just give them, like, two extra cities with plenty of special resources -- that'll ensure they're a threat. So what's everyone's favorite gaming experience? Doesn't have to be something that happened in game, could be just at the table or chatting about a game, something dealing with a game. Whatever the hell was your favorite thing.I'll never forget the first time I sundered a PCs weapon. *slice* -- right through a brand new masterwork Dwarven Waraxe. He was, well, a little angry. Better sunders/trips/disarms were to come, but I'll never forget that one. Not that I enjoyed it, or anything like that. ;) |
| Tenzhi03-10-05, 02:23 AM | My favourite gaming moment comes from Call of Cthulhu. We somehow managed to make it to the climax of the adventure with most of our sanity intact. Unfortunately, this also meant that we missed a number of vitally important text bits and were completely unprepared to stop the cult from summoning some hideous Cyclopean horror from whatever alien nether-dimension hideous Cyclopean horrors come from. So this thing chases us up from subterranean levels (destroying the cult which summoned it in the process) into a parking garage. We hijack a heavy duty van of some sort and are running away, but then I stop the truck, kick everyone out, and turn around to head-on this thing with the van much to everyone (especially the GM's) surprise. I jump out at the last moment, but I get a good glimpse of the critter before the van collides with it and it explodes in meaty chunks. I survived with nothing but a broken leg (and I mean nothing - my mind was gone), and the world was saved... until next time. My second favourite moment happened when I was running Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. One of my players was using a Chainmaster. They come up against a blue dragon and the fight was not going very well for either side. The dragon was about to make a final pass with his breath weapon (and if it didn't finish them off he was going to run away and get revenge later). The party doesn't really have any ranged weapons to speak of, but the Chainmaster gets the bright idea to use his chain to fling a stone at the dragon as a last resort. I impose some penalties to the roll, but he gets a critical hit much to the dragon's chagrin. The dragon was injured enough (and demoralized) at that point to just turn tail - which is a good thing for the party because another lightning blast would likely have toasted them. I guess you had to be there for that one. |
| Droga03-10-05, 02:33 AM | Tenzhi, if ya don't mind since you were one of the biggest critics. Mind heading to the GoUE to check out my PrC and the skygge? |
| alaron03-10-05, 01:48 PM | I have two that were vurry funny. K_B will remember the second one. 1st We were in a hack and slash campaign run by IWIW's brother and we came a cross an ettin in a cell. we attacked it but our idiot human rouge was second to act but thought he was first, He ran to the ettin and tried to get a sneak attack against it, He failed to do so because the ettin had reddied an action the gave him enough AOO to kill the rouge. His death was not the great part however. instead it was that he left the table weeping and all angry like we had just taken his cookies. Second involves me dying in a hilarious manor. K_B was DMing a game that used magicly propeled flying vechiles. Mine got shot down and I was at -8 while I was floating in the water. the cleric thought it would be a good idea to shoot a grapling hook down to pull me up to the heavier craft that they took from the enemy. He shot the grapling hook instead of next to me, he hit me with it. K_B rolled the damage and it put me exactly at -10. That was just fun. |

And it happened quite frequently. I mean, what kind of rogue charges an ettin? It's not like he was a combat rogue -- he was a regular ol' finesse rogue. I only wish I had been there for that game. K_B was DMing a game that used magicly propeled flying vechiles. I'm not too sure I know what I'm doing now. ~~~~~~~~~ This reminds me of that potentially cool but turned crap moral dilemna we got in one time, alaron, Remember? OK, the guy above, who had his rogue killed, had made his next character a chaotic good paladin (a variant from Dragon magazine). I'm playing a chaotic good bard/fighter, and alaron here is playing a chaotic neutral barbarian. I believe I wish I was was playing a monk (?) and another character was playing a sorcerer. We're tromping through a Gnoll stronghold, and we encounter a group of, like, 6 gnolls. We kill them all, and the last one throws down his weapons and begs for mercy. Me, being a chaotic good fellow, wants to tie him up and take him back to town later. The paladin doesn't say a damn thing. Alaron, being a barbarian, laws of the wild, blah blah blah, takes a swing at him to finish him off. We're both standing right next to him, so I try to disarm him of his axe before he can do that (I'm wielding a Dire Flail) -- but I fail, so alaron kills the guy. I'm like: "fine... I wish you hadn't done that, but let's just continue..." Then, the paladin shoots alaron with his bow... *Pop!* So alaron goes over and whacks the paladin with his axe -- which evidently must have been an Axe of Calm Emotionsmade as it made everything all better. So, |
| alaron03-10-05, 06:34 PM | you need to remember what followed. The paladin did not want to give the guy the box we retrieved, and I took it from him and we got seriously blown up when I gave the box to the necromance. That was fun. IWIW's brother should have killed me thet time. and you were right IWIW was a grapling monk. That happend more than once because I almost failed to open the trapped door but I got lucky with the combination. |

| Orcy The Green Wonder03-10-05, 06:52 PM | lol, reminds me of a recent campaign, of course, it ended with me killing the whole group and then leading a bunch of wild elves to take over a town. that was fun. That reminds Orcy of one of his favorite game events. The DM was fairly new to DMing, he had run a game or two before, and Orcy had told him a few times not to hand out so much gold. So, Orcy decides hes going to play a Half-Orc Half-Ogre (half orc template from a half-orc supplement). He took the Orc Warlord PrC and had around 800 followers after Might Makes right (the DM let Orcy use the epic leadership table because his score was so high). So Orcy took this army and raided a few cities, building up even MORE gold. Eventually he had around a 90 AC at level 10. He had a flying castle with ballista and vats of oil set on the bottom to fire and pour on people. An open area where our Red Dragon ally could fly out of, and about 4-5 blue dragon eggs. Needless to say, he could walk into an army and destroy all of them himself. After conquering the continent the DM just said ok, thats it... this game is officially ruined. Thats the problem with DMs who give out far too much. Taught him a valuble lesson though. Come to think of it, last Orcy knew the DM had banned Might Makes Right from his games. |
| turalisj03-10-05, 07:07 PM | wow, i would ahve just ascended you into godhood. |
| Sssargoth03-10-05, 07:14 PM | I was a halfling ranger/rogue with a grey render mount, and was raising the blue dragons. We were getting ready to take on the gods for their power. |
| I wish I was03-10-05, 07:35 PM | I would have to say, one of my favorite gaming moments, was when that whiney guy mentioned above, and my self had a one on one, stealth battle, in this shadey maze area. KB dmed, that dude played a cleric rogue, and myself, an illusionist rogue. It lasted forever, because we both kept to the shadows, and were timid, and tried all sorts of ploys to draw eachother out. He got close to killing me once, and I him, but I had crappy roles, and I had about a hit point. So, finally, I cast minor image of my self half heartedly hiding in the shawdows and I about 10 feet back followed, crossbow at the ready. It worked, he came out, got shot, and died. I won, and all the people who were waiting to play again for about an hour and a half could. Perhaps it doesn't seem that great, but I thought it was a grand ol' time! |
| Kingside_Bishop03-10-05, 07:37 PM | Come to think of it, last Orcy knew the DM had banned Might Makes Right from his games. |
| Tenzhi03-10-05, 11:37 PM | He had a flying castle with ballista and vats of oil set on the bottom to fire and pour on people. I'm surprised he didn't Anti-Magic your castle in the dead of night and laugh maniacally as all of the inhabitants died in the resulting cataclysmic crash. ;) |
| Sssargoth03-11-05, 12:04 AM | That DM isn't any where near being smart enough to do that, Tenzhi. He never even payed attention to a charicters LA from race or templait. |
| Kingside_Bishop03-11-05, 02:21 AM | I would have to say, one of my favorite gaming moments, was when that whiney guy mentioned above, and my self had a one on one, stealth battle, in this shadey maze area. Perhaps it doesn't seem that great, but I thought it was a grand ol' time!Yeah... that was a good time. I enjoyed it, you enjoyed it, and the other guy enjoyed it. I really liked that campaign. To bad we scrapped it. There was some really good character developement going on, as I recall. I was thinking about DMing a campaign this summer, since all I've got to do is read a few texts. Maybe another campaign like that would be fun. You have to admit, in that urban environment, it wasn't difficult to find something to develop your character with. I remember you went out solo and robbed a few guys. The party split up once, and pursued seperate adventures. Yeah, I think if I DM this summer, urban is definitely the way to go. |
| Tenzhi03-11-05, 02:50 AM | That DM isn't any where near being smart enough to do that, Tenzhi. I thought that every DM knew that the answer to most any problem is "Beholder Ninja." ;) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-11-05, 03:03 AM | I thought that every DM knew that the answer to most any problem is "Beholder Ninja." ;) Actually, Orcy's answer to most any problem is ribbit. Or, the Colossal toad of infinite doomily doomness. But you'd have to be one of Orcy's players to know about that. Right Sssargoth? |
| Tenzhi03-11-05, 03:09 AM | Actually, Orcy's answer to most any problem is ribbit. Or, the Colossal toad of infinite doomily doomness. But you'd have to be one of Orcy's players to know about that. Right Sssargoth? I have a feeling that if you expand on that I'll be envisioning the giant toad king from Naruto. Of course, he had a pipe and a small (relative to him) sword, so maybe not. |
| Rurik "The Silent"03-11-05, 09:15 AM | Yeah, I think if I DM this summer, urban is definitely the way to go. if you want to go urban and dont want to make all the buildings yourself the company that made the book called The World's Largest Dungeon is comming out with The World's Largest City later this year sometime. The got the world's largest dungeon book for christmas, and if your looking for a great dungeon crawl this is it. Its about 850 pages long with 16 regions and each region has a story plot with something new going on. Its really realyl detailed too. Rooms and encounters have conditional mondifiers from: Ambush, Cursed, Distracting Noises, Drafty, Stagnient Air, Tremors, echos, and much more. Besides the libris mortis its the best book ive ever gotton. It was well worth it. My friends and i are starting a game sometime this month in it. It will last you a year or two depending on how much you play, its got liek 1600 rooms. But depending on how you do the leveling then you can be anywhere from lvl 20-30 when you finish. My friends and i having a small group and wanting to start with some lvl adjustments decided to start at lvl 4 then go up a max of 2 levels per region. Giving you a final level of 36. Not bad. |

That'd probably be all I'd take, are the floorplans (which I imagine would be pretty extensive, from what I've heard of the WLD). Yeah, thanks Rurik, I'll check into that! |

Of course, he had a pipe and a small (relative to him) sword, so maybe not. Thats the basic idea, but its stomach is a black hole...or is it a portal to the lower planes...either way, your screwed. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder03-11-05, 12:52 PM | Thats the basic idea, but its stomach is a black hole...or is it a portal to the lower planes...either way, your screwed. Well, he doesnt have a pipe... or a sword... or clothes. He just happens to be a colossal+ toad that has a pocket dimension in his stomach. So yes, if he eats you, Orcy would have to say yer screwed. |

And i live in Aleppo PA so im nowhere near Wisconsin |
| jagggar03-19-05, 12:38 AM | Sounds like that question's run its course. Time for a new one! Assume you're stuck in the past with the 3.0 core rule books only. You want to update to 3.5 and you're already using the SRD. You also want to get the various 3.5 splatbooks. In what order do you buy them? Include: Core Rulebooks Psionics Handbook "Complete" Series "Races of" Series Any other supliments I'm missing on my list. If you don't wish to buy a suppliment, explain why not. |
| Dyne03-19-05, 12:45 AM | I'd say stick to 3.0 until you have money for several 3.5 supplement books in addition to the core rulebooks. The biggest reason to update to 3.5 is so the material will be compatible. Other than that, I can't help you. I'm living in the past, with only a 3.0 PHB. |
| Kingside_Bishop03-19-05, 01:14 PM | I would buy: 3.5 Player's HandbookBecause you can run a campaign with only the Player's Handbook. 3.5 Dungeon Master's GuideBecause this makes it a hell of a lot easier to run said campaign. Expanded Psionics HandbookBecause Psionics can add a great deal of richness to a game, and the XPH gives players more extra options than any other non-core book. The Terrain Specific BooksBecause these books can add great detail to certain terrain types, contain useful rules, and new feats, skills, items, and PrC's for players who want to play a character from those regions and might be struggling with doing it using other supplements. The Race BooksBecause, while these books are useful, player's can create characters of races from these books just fine without these books. They're useful, but I'd only buy them if I had a lot of cash to burn.I would not buy: 3.5 Monster ManualBecause converting 3.0 monster to 3.5 is really easy, and if I ever need help, there's the SRD. This argument could be made for the PHB and DMG as well, but I use these so much that it would be a huge pain to check the SRD every time, whereas I rarely need to check the SRD on the Monster Manual. Any of the Complete BooksI absolutely abhor these books, and am offended that WotC has published them. As I recall, they made the promise that we wouldn't need to buy updates for the 3.0 splatbooks... and then they came out with the Complete Series, which is basically just that. I mean, most of those books' crunch are drawn straight from the class books -- it's just all been rebalanced. I bought all of the splatbooks, and love them (after rebalancing some of their material myself). The Complete Books have some redeeming qualities, such as new core classes, spells, and weapon enhancements, but I can get those off of a PDF (and I have), and the bulk of their material are the PrC's, which are universally drawn from other, more useful sources, which I would buy (note above). |
| jagggar03-19-05, 01:27 PM | If you didn't have the original class splatbooks, would you still be against buying Complete? |
| Kingside_Bishop03-19-05, 07:49 PM | If you didn't have the original class splatbooks, would you still be against buying Complete? No. Obviously, if I had a choice between buying outdated material and updated material, I'd go with the updated material. I just question the necessity of the update -- I'm pretty sure it's a business venture, the Complete X books. |
| Lady Rolindin03-19-05, 10:56 PM | One was a roman empire (can't remember the name), no magic what so ever. dead magic world. I had two characters one was a young female slave gril caotured from Gual, and the other was a roman born into a proamit family. the female didn't fair well was sold to a sentors house after being taken to slave fasm for 4 or 5 years and she was not hapy and died close to thirty years of age. the roman male was put in the roman army and just keep him in the army. those gauls are mean fighters. using no magic does make a differance, it makes it harder to heal and you only get the type of metal they ues in the time frame. you do learn about the time peroid and how they lived, it helps to educate you. as far as outdated materail, it is a good referance system. take the fr old moduals they help to defind the fr since the new updated books build somewhat onthem. and the older 2e moduals have more litte information that is not is the overall books. they are referrance materail's only to me. some of the complete books have some good things inthem, but overall anyone can come up with an prc and improve on the classes or make a better class. I know that the prc classes in the books are someones elese ideals of the class. they can be improved or revamped into a better class that is approeate for any campain. there are some games that canbe can called games that all of us want to forget also we all everyonw has has bad games where our characters as had nasty and horribile things happen to them. its all part of the game and you learn from these things. other games that have been crazy or funny, has any one else had a game where the dm built you up 2 to 5 levels and come to find out every character was dreaming. that happened to one of mine. the group traved to an undergound old dwarfven mine and then found their way to a room. amirror was in th4e room and everone was teleported to a second world, they the group went and palyed in the world and they woke up and it was a dream. that was different for every player. some of you should do that and see how your players react, it a humbling experance for a character to get magic and weapons and wake up from a dream after and wonder what happened. blows your character mind away, to have a group dream. |
| jagggar04-07-05, 04:37 PM | Hmmm. . . :bump: Okay, new question: How long have you been role-playing in various forms? |
| Kingside_Bishop04-07-05, 06:33 PM | Hmmm. . . :bump: Okay, new question: How long have you been role-playing in various forms?Hmmm... The first RPG I played was Final Fantasy (I)... but I didn't get that into the RPG genre of games until I played Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I played a lot of console RPGs until I was eleven. Then I played a single session of D&D... I thought it was pretty cool. I didn't play again for about five years, but was still into console and computer RPGs (Diablo, etc). During this five year period, I got into Magic: The Gathering. A new gamestore opened in my town (it was the first -- all my friends and I were really excited because we finally had a place other than the web to buy cards). We went to the gamestore, bought some cards, and I noticed a few D&D books on the shelf. I remembered that one time five years prior, and told my friends about it. We had some other friends, not into magic but into RPGs, and asked them if they knew about any D&D groups. One of them was going to try and DM sometime. He ended up not, but by then we were so interested, we decided to play anyway. Somehow, I ended up as GM, having only played once five years ago and thus having no clue whatsoever what I was doing. |
| gabrion04-08-05, 02:42 AM | Hmmm... ... but I didn't get that into the RPG genre of games until I played Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I wouldn't normally make what I see as such an of subject comment, but this was the SICKEST game ever! |
| Kingside_Bishop04-08-05, 10:18 AM | I wouldn't normally make what I see as such an of subject comment, but this was the SICKEST game ever!Yeah it was! Especially for the Super Nintendo... that game was the pinnacle of the system. |
| jagggar04-09-05, 02:07 AM | Okay, now to answer my own question: If you can role-play on your own, I've been doing it most of my life. Only child with overactive imagination. Seriously love my stuffed animals since they were the ones who played with me. Then when I was with my cousins at my grandma's I can remember we'd do weird imagining things and on several ocassions I used the little blanket as a cape and I was a vampire, one cousin was like my pet monstrous spider, and then the other two were lovers or something? Wow. . . I think I've got an adventure right there. . . At some point in time we were at my Aunt's house and she has three boys who were D&D and Magic players. Went to Target and bought Gold Box Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds. When we got home I tried playing, and I could usually do one or two encounters, but then I'd always die. I gave up on it, what with the instruction manual having a bunch of words and stuff that I didn't have the ability to comprehend yet. I had no idea what the D&D terms meant, particuarly AC and THAC0. Wow, was THAC0 evil back then. I gave up on playing them for quite a while. For Christmas one year my present "from" my grandparents was Shining Force: Sword of Hajya for Game Gear. After a while I gave up on reading the instructions, and that's when I started getting the hang of it. Once I got the hang of that I was willing to go back to the Gold Box games for another try. I started getting the hang of it eventually. When we got the Internet, I found The Digimon Experience. Gone now, but those were my first friends on the net I made. Learned to do free-form role-playing there. Learned a lot about counteracting godmodders. I never got around to D&D until I saw it sitting on the shelf at Border's one day. Oddly enough, I believe we were getting me a new Bible at that time too. Yeah, I hadn't quite found M.J. Young's article yet so I was kinda not sure about my faith and gaming so it was really odd PHB and NIV in one purchase. And yet, I didn't really get to play for over a year. Eventually I tried to get some of my friends together to play, this was Freshman or Sophomore year. Plans kinda fell through and then one of my friends decided to start up with Werewolf, but we never got the characters made sadly. I'd really like to see if he'd be willing to try again, especially if he can get his mom to buy the new one (employ discount), what I've skimmed of Werewolf: The Forsaken I've liked. But back to D&D. Eventually, we got a group going at school which played after school for an hour most week days. Our first "campaign," was crappy, particularly since the DM turned it over to me 2 weeks into the game. Next year we started another one that didn't go that well either, and then the DM said he was tired of it and we switched over to a Modern campaign which we never played. Now I'm moved down here to a nice little college town and I don't have a group. Know some of the guys play SWRPG, but I haven't really picked the issue too much and it's kinda the transitional stage where you don't totally feel like part of the group of friends. I'm probably gunna put up an ad in the gamer classified section when I move back home for the summer after I get a job set up and all. |
| Kingside_Bishop04-21-05, 03:53 PM | What do you guys think of sigs? I just got done editting mine, adding some stuff, and SBLOCK'ing (it's needed it for awhile now); I hit the (2000 character) limit. I love sigs, because they give me the opportunity to proclaim my beliefs to the world. And I hate that damn limit... just complaining, I guess. |
| Dyne04-21-05, 06:02 PM | I like sigs when they're useful. I hate them when people use them to be irritating (which is rare, but I've seen it before). |
| Lady Rolindin04-21-05, 08:16 PM | jagggar Hmmm. . . Okay, new question: How long have you been role-playing in various forms? Games I have played in, started out in the Gray hawk book back in the 70's. the first book was a yellowish color about 5 inches wide by 7 0r 8 inches long 30 to 40 pages. when the first d&d books came out i played them i remember right they were based of gray hawk too. played in Dragon Lance, Hollow world, Spell Jammer, Raven Loft, forgotten Realms (have keeped up with the fr stuff over the years). LoR, Ebberon, Dark World, a roman type world no magic, Star Trek, Star wars, a world me and Redhase made called Tajuarn, where the netheril empire rules most of the world. and serval moduals from the press before the wotc bought out the rights from gyax. alot of old modlues I still have. fr and spell jammer are really something, LoR when it first came out had the nasgaul very powerful, if I remember right a radius of evil aura of 20 to 40 miles. very mean creatures and hard to kill, you could not get close to them with out every round rolling to see if you didn't run from fear. a navey game called commander of the Blood seas, that was fun to learn ship combat and how to run a ship. Raven Loft was not a place to have agood character in it and they have a lot of trouble in the world, the evil is everywhere. No where to run. Buffy the slayer would be buffy the vampire in raven Loft. |
| jagggar04-27-05, 08:20 PM | Signatures: I like for the most part. Not a huge fan of sig limits, especially with the sblock tag. If they could somehow incorperate that into the code for the board, I'd love them (them being the really tech people Wizards hires). I currently have it set to showing the sig once since somepeople have really long sigs and I don't care to scroll past the same funny phrase 50 times. If your house caught on fire and you had time to grab only one RPG book, what would it be? (Assume that you're totally covered by insurance and they're somehow going to even be able to get you a good copy of the original D&D release should you have it.) |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart04-27-05, 09:52 PM | Which Book would I have grabed? I would have grabed my XPH to be honest. Psionics have fast become my favorite and even if that was my only book I would still love to run an all-psionic game. I'm even planning on creating a thri-keen psionic warrior/ranger. Not sure which foundation he will be affliated with yet though. -Frosty |
| Dyne04-28-05, 01:30 AM | Maybe the Psionic Foundation? |
| Kingside_Bishop04-28-05, 02:06 AM | You know, to be honest, I don't use my books much anymore... but if I had to choose one, I'd probably take my Manual of the Planes. That's a great book... and I've got everything from Core memorized, anyway (or damn near). |
| Tenzhi04-28-05, 03:01 AM | If your house caught on fire and you had time to grab only one RPG book, what would it be? I would likely prefer to grab my Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book rather than any of my numerous RPGs. But if it had to be an RPG... I'd burn to death trying to decide which of my numerous boxed sets to take with me. Planescape, Council of Wyrms, or Wrath of the Immortals most notably... |
| gabrion04-28-05, 04:20 AM | Does my hard drive count? Wait...I meant I would grab Complete Arcane...the one I bought in the store...right... |
| Kingside_Bishop04-28-05, 10:19 AM | Does my hard drive count?Heh, Amen to that, brother! 35 and counting! |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart04-28-05, 04:13 PM | Does my hard drive count? Wait...I meant I would grab Complete Arcane...the one I bought in the store...right... I'm with you on that one. Don't worry. Your not the only one who does that. With all the little capatalist "tricks" the WotC pulls on us, loyal customers, we deserve a little break now and then. Dont you think? ;) |
| gabrion04-28-05, 04:59 PM | I'm with you on that one. Don't worry. Your not the only one who does that. With all the little capatalist "tricks" the WotC pulls on us, loyal customers, we deserve a little break now and then. Dont you think? ;) Yup. And believe it or not, I'm actually one of thse people who downloads music and if I like it enough, I'll buy the album. Same way with WotC material. I bought all of the Complete Books for instance, even though I already have electronic copies. Some stuff I don't think is worth it though, and by getting an online copy of it, I know how much it sucks and don't have to waste money on it. |
| FriendOfReligion05-02-05, 02:57 AM | Two very different-looking humans walk in and look around. The taller and far more handsome of the men clears his throat ostentatiously to speak. "I am Jamallo Kreen, Friend of Religion, and I yield my Quill of Far Writing to my comrade, Pyotr van App." (Jamallo is in his young twenties, muscular, splendidly dressed, one might think him a burgomeister of some sort. He wears a longsword against his left hip; its scabbard and baldric are brown leather tooled with an ornate design of flowers He wears a single rose bud pinned near his heart. To call him "handsome" scarcely does him justice: on one Prime he would be described as a younger, trimmer Ricky Martin, with the masculine strength and smouldering magnetism of all the best features of Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp, and Orlando Bloom. He smiles as he hands his Quill of Far Writing to to his "comrade," and -- if it were possible -- one might believe that the light reflecting off of his teeth was brighter than the light in the room. Jamallo bows crisply to the company, endeavouring to not slight anyone. He then proceeds to mingle, radiating perfect confidence in his own strengths and his near-perfect good lucks. Pyotr van App enters into the midst of the crowd and bows crisply as well, placing at his feet what is called in one time on a certain little Prime planet as a Gladstone Bag. He is apparently in his mid-teens, just slightly better-looking than average He clears his throat and begins to seek in a soft voice. "I entered the tower of the Foundations Built on Faith, and I found it empty. A simulacrum of a servant of one "Helm" was present and most voluble, but when I spoke to him I could elicit no response. Fortunately, one "Dyne" of this community informed me that the Foundation was abandoned, the real people who were imitated by the simulacra there no longer entered, and the Guildmaster had not been seen for a year. "I am by profession a chirurgeon and am capable of performing surgery upon Humans, Elves, Halflings and many sorts of strange beasts. Within my home town of Waterdeep, upon the world of Abeir-Toril, I have been certified as a Doctor of Chirurgery and diplomate of barbering. In that Great City I have established what I style. 'The House of Life and Death.' It is there where I perform surgery upon the poor who cannot afford the healing of priests, or who lack the faith or the piety for such a miracle. "I am also acquainted with some simple magics which ..." {Jamllo Kreen chooses this moment to cough loudly while drinking a crude rum, and vigorous back-slapping is need to restore his breath to a proper rate.} "AS I WAS SAYING, I am acquainted with some simple magics which will help the injured and the ill. I charge nothing for my chirurgical services, but strongly encourage those who have the ability to pay, tender a fair price and a little bit more to help buy medical supplies and food for the treatment of the poor and destitute. WHY, you ask, is it necessary to give money for the medical care of strangers? I shall tell you the answer quite simply: First, the Gods of Mercy bless the merciful and charitable; second, a miasma of disease accumulates in the air around the ill, and it is only by washing the bodies of the sick and making them expectorate the phlegmatic constituencies of their humors and void their bowels and bladders that putrefying matter within the body of the diseased is easily and conveniently expelled. By applying physic in the form of certain herbs and certain precious stones and costly unguents known to me, I can evacuate the bowels, drain a stoney bladder, remove flatulence -- the foul heat built in the belly by too much wrong living, and -- above al -- force the brain of dis-eased patients to exude a greenish, purulent creature, which some have wrongly styled as "Snot," but which is, of course, a viscid, slowly moving creature which hath infected the brain. Had a I scientific glass of sufficient strength I might be able to communicate with the little fiend (or persona, perhaps I should say), but the creatures have heretofore been only noxious, and the sooner they are rid from within the school the sooner they are forced to stop draining the mental fluids of the brain. With the aid of a certain powder known to me, I can cause these vile creatures to quit the human head and restore it to normal function." "As I said, I entered the tower of the Foundations Built on Faith and I found it deserted of any living being. "Gentlefolk of this community, I crave your leave to lay claim to the said tower and establish therein a House of Life and Death for the treatment of the ill. The benefits of such an occupancy will be obvious to you: professional medical attention and -- if necessary -- magical assistance, although monetary contributions are even more welcome for magical services than for medical ones. "The name of the tower is well-omened: 'Foundations Built on Faith.' I have faith in myself, and in the human and humanoid races and our aspirations to greatness. It is appropriate that a branch of the 'House of Life and Death' should be opened there, in your empty tower, for there are mysteries which every human mind explores: the Mystery of Life, the Mystery of Death, the Mystery of Undeath, and the Mystery of Immortality. I have faith, and I hope that you will also have faith, that we shall successfully explore these mysteries and bring out into the open what has been hidden from us by those whose claim to glory is merely that they are merely stronger that us. "For too long these secrets have been hidden from us, and I hope that if you endow me with the Tower of the Foundations Built on Faith, that I shall be able to establish therein a House of Life and Death and provide you good people with medical and surgical services, and that you will come to join me in my quest to discover those secrets which have been wrongly hidden from us for too long." "Gentlefolk, I ask to be given the aforesaid tower and put it into active use. How say you, Gentlefolk?" |
| gabrion05-02-05, 04:35 AM | @FOR-I say go for it, but you will need to get more people to help you out. I for one am not particularly interested in that guild, but I'm sure some people are. @All-I just wanted to drop a request here. I realize quite a few people here at the guild house have links in there sigs to the guild house. I think this is a great idea and I have just recently edited my sig to contain such links. I just wanted to say that I think all of you should do the same. I love diverse sigs and I think you should keep anything else in your sig that you like, but if we want to raise membership in the IFGW, we need to let people know about this great place. You might think I'm making a silly statement/request, but I really think it is important-especially for those of you who frequent other boards. I think a lot of people would love to join us here, but they just don't know about this. Lastly, I would just like to point out that a link in KBs sig is the reason I found this place, so it really is true that we can draw people in through these links. Anywho, I know a lot of you would be willing to do this, but maybe you just haven't thought about it. Think about it! |
| Kingside_Bishop05-02-05, 03:26 PM | @ FOR: That sounds like a fun guild... and it would certainly break the current mold! How many guilds do we have dedicated to domination now? 67 was it? That's what I thought. Seriously, though, having a guild solely dedicated to helping people would be cool. @ Gabrion: Indeed, individuals who frequent other boards than this could put a link leading to here. That's how I found this place, too (through WizO Cat's sig). |
| Vainamoinen the Steadfast05-15-05, 09:23 PM | first off i would like to say hello to those whove iv kicked in the past :D and i need help making a ig character to use ig (of course) so please help? (finding it hard to get attention pulls out a orcarina and amuses himself tryng to learn zeldas lulliby.) |
| jagggar05-16-05, 01:38 AM | (finding it hard to get attention pulls out a orcarina and amuses himself tryng to learn zeldas lulliby.)*twitchtwitch* Don't want to save faries. . . Least I'm rid of stupid Navi. Deku Tree, that thing was annoying! Tatl at least cares about Skull Kid, it's not just "Hey! Look! Listen!" Grah! So anyway, about that help. . . What sort of help do you need? Got a character concept? |
| grimclaw05-23-05, 12:20 PM | Grimclaw enters and pulls up a cot in a dark corner. He lays down snuggles up under his blakets and goes to sleep.(still working on getting back as a regular, till then dont wake me. :D ) |

| Kingside_Bishop05-31-05, 01:46 PM | Zelda character, eh? Check this out (http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://homepage.ntlworld.com/da.vane/ZeldaD20Sourcebook.zip&origin=). It's a d20 Zelda Sourcebook -- a very nice conversion. Check it out... we might even approve a character using the materials. Now, if you want to build the character using straight up, Core materials, then we can help you with that, too. There's nothing I love more than building characters (except building Guild Houses)! Have you anything more than that -- you know, some flavory stuff? It might be helpful to take a gander at the Organization Compendium (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6073146&postcount=13), and see which guilds you'd be interested in joining... or maybe start some kind of performer's guild? I don't think we have one of those, yet. It could even double as a place for chaotic good crusader types (which we also don't have). Is that even the flavor you're going for? Perform / Chaotic Crusader of Good? Or am I just spouting nonsense? (man, we need a smilie that shrugs his shoulders) |
| Dyne05-31-05, 07:18 PM | I tried to make a D&D character after Link once. Didn't really work out, though. He was a Fighter/Bard. KB, I believe the Harpers Foundation would cover what you were talking about. Actually, it would cover it perfectly. Also, we had several crusading-type guilds (including the Guild of Pure Good) and a few performer guilds, but they've all died out. |

| Kingside_Bishop05-31-05, 07:52 PM | A kiss on the cheek will be fine, thanks! ;) Good to see you, Dyne! I was worried you'd left us... :weep:. We've set an informal start date -- June 12th. That may or may not happen, but it gives us something to strive for. See the MetaThread for details. I, too, tried to make Link in the d20 system. My version was a basic gish -- Fighter / Wizard / Spellsword / Eldritch Knight, but I think I threw in a level of Bard in there (Use Magic Device, baby!). Seriously, though, that Zelda d20 doc I linked to is a damn fine book for everything Zelda. They even designed a whole new magic system that is, to say the least, sweet. It's a bit hard to customize characters because the class system kind of forces you down pre-scribed paths... but all in all, a very nice conversion. As to the existing guilds... I think it's really intimidating for new players to try and restart a near dead guild. I had experience with that in the restarting of the Assassin's Guild. You post, and hope not to embarrass yourself, which is something that a lot of newcomers aren't going to be willing to do. The only reason the SBB worked out is because it's a really diverse and popular topic, Assassins. Less popular topics will have a hard time getting re-started. But the crusader type thing shouldn't be that hard to get started -- good types are always popular. I must admit, I intend to try shortly here. I've got a chaotic good half giant (you remember, Dyne, Orpheus?) who's going to get pumped up here shortly. I'm also brewing up a True Evil Bone Human Dark Arcane Knight thing. Then I'll keep Aizelvon Xur, because I still really like the cardcasting idea. Those'll be my three characters: one good, one evil, and one neutral who is capable of switching alignment at will. I don't intend to guildmaster if I can help it, though. That would probably lead me down a path I don't want to go -- but I might Guildmaster again, if it proves absolutely necessary. |
| Dyne05-31-05, 08:16 PM | Yeah, it's hard to get a guild started up (or re-started up). I think that's mainly because we have far more guilds than we have posters in this forum. We really need to attract some more people over here. I think I'm just going to play two characters. I know, I'm supposed to be the person that plays every imaginable type of character. But, the thing is, it is darn difficult to play more than one person at the same time, especially when they differ a great deal. And it gets very confusing when it comes to dealings between guilds when some of your members might have characters in an allied guild (and so are trying to make sure the allied character doesn't aid the character in your guild too much), or especially when some of your members have characters in a hostile guild. Ever killed yourself off? It's not pretty. Anyway, Stormhand is going to be my main character. He should keep me busy enough, since so far he's a one-man army. I hope the rest of the Storm Federation is more active by the time everything starts.... I'm thinking my other character will be a Cleric that sells scrolls and healing potions, as well as offers his healing services. |
| Galaktia06-01-05, 09:55 AM | Smiles, Hello everyone, a prospective new player popping in to say high while he tries to figure out an intrsting character. |
| Vainamoinen the Steadfast06-09-05, 10:55 AM | same here G im building one off of link (hopefuly), other charecture concepts for me are based off of samonoske(from the onimusha series),and penguin ninjas as well ( take that evil mongoose samuries out there.) :D so do u have a concept? |
| jagggar07-27-05, 01:32 PM | *drags 'new' couches into the lounge* There we go. I just love dumpster sales. Quick unscientific survey: How many characters do you plan on running? For each character: Is it on the "good", "evil", or one of the "neutral" sides? I hope to get this lounge a bit more activity. If we get any new players, is everyone willing to do what they can to help get them started? |
| Dyne07-27-05, 02:26 PM | I will be running two, possibly three at the most. The two are Stormhand (Neutral, leaning toward Evil) and Yon the Healer (Good). Yon is just a support character, though. He's much too old to go adventuring. ;) He's a very good healer, however, and he has a sanctuary in the Merchants Guild where characters can come for magical healing, resurrection, healing items, and a few other boosting items tied to his divine magic. |
| premier66607-27-05, 06:59 PM | me gots 3, Black Mage (neutral and main), James "Darkstorm" Raynor (evil), Drauguril (good). |

| Ashariana07-27-05, 08:41 PM | Right now I'm going to just stay with my one character. Ashariana, who is evil. She likes to play with peoples minds, and always loves a new "pet." I might get something else, but right now just going to stay with Ashariana. |
| Arshes07-27-05, 08:54 PM | Arshes- Egoist, likes to fuse bodies with his cohort :D Stilous- A raptoran storm talon. Stern, powerful, makes you with you had wings |
| thasis07-29-05, 05:02 PM | Jus a quick question... what's a gestalt character? |
| jagggar07-29-05, 05:11 PM | It's pretty much having two classes at once. You get the best of each class and all the abilities that don't overlap. You can find the rules for it here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm). And no, you can't play one here. |
| Master_of_Flames07-29-05, 05:13 PM | too bad about that. owell. I have a lightsaber! ^_^ :P *activates his +1 hideaway brilliant longsword* *activates special effects sounds* snap-hiss |
| Dyne07-30-05, 03:38 PM | perhaps we can have yon and zik be old friends :D Sure, why not. They're both extraordinarily old and senile. |
| necrodude1607-30-05, 07:31 PM | I'm gonna be playing Kayne Shadowborne. ;) You'll see alot of him. :D :D |
| Arshes07-31-05, 11:30 AM | hey! i have a character under the name of adrinth shadowborne in another game! random question: who would win... wolverine vs freddy the juggernaught vs jason :D |
| Dyne07-31-05, 02:04 PM | Wolverine and Juggernaut would win, because mutants are better than the antagonists of horror movies. |
| Master_of_Flames08-07-05, 12:18 AM | hey demon_fey, my characters going to get approved yet? or do i have to eldritch blast you? |
| Dyne08-07-05, 12:53 AM | Perhaps threatening the Character_DM is not the best way to go about things. He is a volunteer, afterall, he's lending his time and energy to provide a service to the forum. And perhaps it'd be better to "remind" him on the character thread. |
| Ashariana08-07-05, 01:00 AM | Why is it I already want to dominate Master of Flames and make him do embarassing things? |
| Master_of_Flames08-07-05, 01:15 AM | my good looks? :D ;) |
| Dyne08-07-05, 01:21 AM | Why is it I already want to dominate Master of Flames and make him do embarassing things? It'd be easy to get away with because he already does embarassing things? |
| Master_of_Flames08-10-05, 01:48 AM | tssk tssk. watch it dyne. my newest character, Mirk'Lae, may have to teach you soem manners. he can shoot a guard from several miles away, while inside of a castle. :D |
| Tenzhi08-10-05, 02:39 AM | Wolverine and Juggernaut would win, because mutants are better than the antagonists of horror movies. Juggernaut is not a mutant in normal continuity. |
| Ashariana08-10-05, 02:43 AM | I wonder how Master of Flames plans to kill someone without his character approved... or even finished. Please save the taunts and wild claims for finished characters ;) It just makes you sound funny when you claim to have a really powerful character though he isn't even finished... or started if the Player character thread is any example of how far you've gotten on it ;) |
| Master_of_Flames08-10-05, 02:43 AM | nope, he's a magicaly altered being. who would win: orcy the green wonder or tenzhi the elf bane. :D |
| Ashariana08-10-05, 02:44 AM | nope, he's a magicaly altered being. who would win: orcy the green wonder or tenzhi the elf bane. :D Neither? They would be too busy killing elves. |
| Tenzhi08-10-05, 03:03 AM | who would win: orcy the green wonder or tenzhi the elf bane. :D Orcy would apparently win. |
| gabrion09-24-05, 10:00 AM | Hey all, just stopping in to see how things are going. Summer was busy and left me little time for things like this, but now that I'm back at school I may very well get back into the forum life. With any luck I will revise my character for the SBB and he can start killing people for money in the near future. Unfortunately I left my books at home so I won't be able to do anything until I get them back, but I suppose that will give me time to catch up on what I've missed. I haven't had a chance to read too much so far, but it seems that things are officially underway here, which is something you all should be proud of. I saw a few posts by KB somewhere, is he back in the game? Cause that would be sweet... |
| Silmarien Aldalome10-15-05, 09:50 PM | Silmarien is smiling hard. She's got Elf-Wine and it's quite potent - even for an Elf. She is holding court, telling a story. She gestures with her hands, and her hair falls about her, as she gathers the folds of her robes about her, and continues.... ...and thence, the Undead did bring their fell breath and dead stares upon Silimna. For she was descried by True Seeing, so that the veil of her invisibility was pierced. Thence, did they see her in her native form. Blazing with Eilistraee's wyrding, her Holy Aura burning unsullied at the Royal Tyranorian Guard. Against the odds, was the fight. Many fell, dark spells all about, and the chilling cold of darkness, sucking life away from our World, through terrible conduits to the negative material plane. But, unafraid was she, and no stranger to the things Undead try. For she has faced the Undead before, and the Thought Vampire that did enslave her once. Great love she had for life, which was how she survived, at Peredhil Halls, from her sickness. And with the courage to live, did she thence return to her Deity and stronger she grew, hallowed and alive with Living Force. She stood ten feet tall, her blazing form alive with the joy of life. And thence, did the Damned and their ghastly wyrding fall upon her. For a horrible iron cage was beset upon her, encasing her in bands to entrap her, so that she could be helpless. For the Undead fear Silimna, as well they ought. And upon her body, did the Minotaur and another of them fall, their foul breath and sharp teeth upon her. But Silimna was healthy, well beyond the wont of most and her whole body filled with the drive to live. Well she had prepared for the encounter, and so, in but a blink of an eye, she vanished her words of Life ringing through the air on the heels of her feet....[/color] |

| Silmarien Aldalome10-15-05, 10:15 PM | One simple word can describe what really happened. Pawned  *smiles* hi there wilds, good to see you. Silmarien smiles warmly at Wilds (splashing some Elf-Wine), and, grinning broadly she says, her eyes smiling as well, with a bright-eyed stare, as her green eyes find you, discerning your soul whatever do you mean, Wilds. OoC: is that an OoC request for 'facts' - or..... (*looks at evil team* - I wanna hear your account of events, RP - that witch Silimna |

| Silmarien Aldalome10-15-05, 11:02 PM | "I didnt know that being bound with metal and having your blood drained was a good thing." Silmarien smiles, and says "verily Wilds, a good thing it is not. A great evil and a terrible pain. A struggle for life, under hazardous circumstances. But, today, we celebrate! and raising her glass, she looks out to your scrying portal, and says "Long Live Silimna! Praise her brave heart and courage. Into the very maws of death she marched and yet lives!" With a gentle face, she finishes "All Praise Eillistreee - for her Grace and for her Gifts. For she is a generous goddess, and if not but for Eilistraee, Silimna would have perished! Praise the goddess! We are humbled before you and awed by your beauty. Praise Eilistraee! Praise Rh'iel! |
| Wilds10-16-05, 12:03 PM | "True your acts were couragoues. But ill concieved at best, more allies and a distraction might have made it work better." |
| Silmarien Aldalome10-16-05, 08:17 PM | Silmarien gestures to Wilds, with a shrewd smile. She says "Brave she was, and brave she remains. Much has been leared about the enemy". Again, she gives thanks to the Goddess. Looking out to your scrying portal she finds you and says "lose the battle and win the war. But, tread on the path of Grace, where only love guides the burning heart." |
| jagggar11-16-05, 09:07 AM | As long as we're hunting down and finding nearly-dead threads, here's another. And so this isn't just a worthless :bump: post, a question/poll I didn't really feel was appropriate elsewhere. I'm trying to decide on my third character. Narrowed it down to two characters I think. I'll answer some questions, but not too many (or worshiped diety). Half-dragon cloistered cleric. Human (OA) shaman. |
| Dyne11-16-05, 08:53 PM | Ever seen Saw? Do that. |
| gabrion11-16-05, 09:16 PM | I'm trying to decide on my third character. Narrowed it down to two characters I think. I'll answer some questions, but not too many (or worshiped diety). Half-dragon cloistered cleric. Human (OA) shaman. I'd go for the second option (although if I could tell you to play anything it would be an archivist, since I really wanna see someone run one of them). The half-dragon CC seems too strange of a combo IMO, but if that's what you're looking for then go for it. |
| jagggar11-16-05, 09:36 PM | Nope, sorry, haven't seen Saw. I wish I'd saw Saw. Need to see Saw. Aki's got quite the strange family. . . (come to think of it, he's kinda related to jagggar in a way. . .) I'd have to jot down the family tree to remember who broke his heart (They're royalty though, so it shouldn't matter!) I think I'll go with the shaman first, cause he might be kinda suicidal in the way he goes about things. |

I think I'll go with the shaman first, cause he might be kinda suicidal in the way he goes about things. You never saw Saw? Everyone has to see Saw. I would love to see a truly gothic, scary character. Maybe I should just get Heroes of Horror. |
| Blasphemous Revenant11-16-05, 10:07 PM | You never saw Saw? Everyone has to see Saw. Indeed, I really enjoyed it. Has a very interesting plot. I would love to see a truly gothic, scary character. You have no idea what's in store. :plotting: |
| Demonfey11-16-05, 10:20 PM | Mind if I just mention you poofing into the stands at the fight, Jagggar? With an AoO, you were hit for 101 damage, and you could only take 93 before being a corpse... |
| jagggar11-16-05, 10:21 PM | I don't really know. When I think gothic, I think occult in a mundane world. And as we can tell by everyone's magic items, this is not a mundane world. . . Oh, and I figured it out. Aki's grand aunt was the one who broke his heart. (Translation: His great grandfather was her father.) |
| lordempwin12-06-05, 12:36 PM | After many leagues and trials the stranger arrives. This is obvious by the miles of dust coating his outer cloak, he removes it. Hangs it on a hook by the door. Oblivious to the stares of the other patrons or just disdaneful which is hard to determine. His weather worn features show the signs of battles and age. He moves to the bar. His voice echoes with tone of a man used to being in command. "May I have a cup of your finest mead. Mulled if you please." He is polite and very well spoken for one so travel warn. "At last I have finally found the great guilds now how does one find employment or membership here?" He says as he slips a strangly marked gold coin across the bar. |
| Demonfey12-06-05, 12:48 PM | Current PC actions: :whatsthis You go into a guild you believe you'd fit in at, and ask for membership. Depending on the guild, you may be allowed without test, tested, or rejected. |
| lordempwin12-06-05, 01:52 PM | Thank you Demonfey. I'm still working on the character generation deal. Don't quite understand why so many characters are available. Three fifteenth level and three tenth level. Seems like a lot to keep up with. I guess its a matter of choice and experience though or is it a generate them all and the GM's pick one that you use? |
| Demonfey12-06-05, 01:56 PM | Not quite sure it's another 3 at 10th level. I'll check into that... as a default, just make 3 at 15th level to be on about equal footing as most others, and introduce them where you want them. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder12-06-05, 02:02 PM | Three characters are not required. You can make one if you'd like. We aren't going to force anybody to play more characters than they want to. |
| Demonfey12-06-05, 02:05 PM | I keep forgetting that some people might see it as a minimum... You can make up to three characters, no more. Also, Orcy, you have a lot of business at the Merchant's guild... |
| jagggar12-06-05, 02:09 PM | No one's really used 10th level characters. Mayhaps we should drop them. It was the compromise we came to on the rules team 'cause one was going all "Let's have tons and tons of PCs!" some weird thing about promoting guild followers to PCs was thrown around too. . . yeah, weird. . . |
| Demonfey12-06-05, 02:12 PM | If it's not being used, then you might as well get rid of it. |
| lordempwin12-06-05, 08:23 PM | It does get a little confusing 3 15th lvl and 3 10th just didn't quite make sense to me. I should have a character posted by tommorow thanks for all the heads ups ya'll (that's southern for you all). It might ought to be dropped if no one uses it. It just causes a little confusion that is unnecesary. Looking forward to gaming with everyone :D |

| Piano Man12-07-05, 04:01 PM | Hello... Im the Piano Man, was playing a game called World of Warcraft one day and relized I prefered actuall RP and interaction with decent humanbeings, I was pointed here by a Wiz_O (The moderators are a helpfull bunch!) I've read a little of the apparent required reading to join the Game and was wondering what foundation a Bard should join. He ain't good I was thinking CN, CG sounded to crazy and CE sounded to evil. And another question.. whats with the blah blah blah ? |
| Demonfey12-07-05, 05:13 PM | Ghashmal Keep, Stormhand Federation, Pyro's Anonymous (if you like burning stuff), Halls of Refuge, Tholljutz (for the aquatic bard) And what do you mean the blah blah blah? |
| gabrion12-07-05, 06:30 PM | Demonfey gives some good options for you to look into. Mainly, just click on a thread that sounds interesting, and then read the guild charter in the opening post. The charter is suppossed to describe the function and goals of the guild (or something like that), so you can get a good feel of where you want to be from that. And another question.. whats with the blah blah blah ? If I understand your question right, I think you may be refering to people using tags that don't actually work. For instance, something like... I should have also mentioned that we will be killing the GoPG soon, so don't join there. The tags (edit and /edit) follow the format for writting script of some kind on these pages. For instance, using [ QUOTE=x]blah blah blah[ /QUOTE] (without the spaces), will actually produce the following: blah blah blah People often use these things when they don't have a function, such as /edit to show that a change has been made to the post or /rant when they get done making a rant. Does that make any sense? Edit: Replace GoPG above with GoUE. My bad. |
| Demonfey12-07-05, 07:00 PM | What's this about killing the GoPG? Surely you mean the GoUE is killing the GoPG... |
| gabrion12-07-05, 07:31 PM | Ooops....I meant to say killing the GoUE. Wow, that could have been confusing. |
| Demonfey12-07-05, 07:32 PM | It was. That's why I asked. Also: Are you, by any chance, immune to a medusa's gaze? Or +1 sizing orc shotputs dangling from a rope outside the zepellins that will be dropped from a minimum of 400 feet up after being made colossal? Because I'm planning on having both around the GoUE... |
| gabrion12-07-05, 07:48 PM | Also: Are you, by any chance, immune to a medusa's gaze? Or +1 sizing orc shotputs dangling from a rope outside the zepellins that will be dropped from a minimum of 400 feet up after being made colossal? | Demonfey12-07-05, 07:51 PM | Excellent, the first targets for operation omnigod besides Father Dagon and Mother Hydra... :plotting: |
| jagggar08-30-06, 10:50 PM | Is there anything that a prospective DM could say to lose you as a player before the game even started? |
| turalisj08-30-06, 11:25 PM | I can think of a few.... 1. Got any joint? 2. I'm a Bush supporter, what about you? 3. Psionics is not allowed in this game. Not now, not never. I refuse to read the expanded psionics handbook. I've already seen the 3.0 version of psionics and that proves it's brokeness. Need I go on? |
| Dyne08-30-06, 11:57 PM | 1. Any mention of politics whatsoever (especially if said person doesn't know anything about politics). I don't care whether or not you hate Bush, keep your stupid opinions to yourself. 2. I have the book of Grimtooth Traps. 3. I hate Elves. |
| CaptainShar01-18-07, 04:27 PM | Hello, I followed the "Welcome to the Guilds" thread to here, so I'm introducing myself. Joining a guild sounds like fun, but I'm not exactly sure how involved this is - how often are we expected to check up and post? Also, I might need a little help, because I've never played a play-by-post game before, or anything at epic levels. So, yeah. How much of an expert do you have to be to join? And is your starting character really supposed to be at 15th...I've seen people much higher than that, or maybe they just level quickly. |
| Dyne01-18-07, 05:14 PM | Hello, I followed the "Welcome to the Guilds" thread to here, so I'm introducing myself. Welcome to the Guild House. Joining a guild sounds like fun, but I'm not exactly sure how involved this is - how often are we expected to check up and post? However often you feel like, really. Unless you're involved in a game, in which you should probably show up on a reasonable basis, especially during battles (once a day, preferably). Also, I might need a little help, because I've never played a play-by-post game before, or anything at epic levels. So, yeah. How much of an expert do you have to be to join? And is your starting character really supposed to be at 15th...I've seen people much higher than that, or maybe they just level quickly. The 15th-level thing was from a past game that is no longer going on. Instead, we have individual games of various levels going on in the sub-forum "Legends of the Guilds". The main one that's going on is Orcy's Ogbanar thing, which starts at 8th-level. It can be found here: Ogbanar: Rise of the Guilds (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=751579) That's not any requirement on experience that I'm aware of, but if you're inexperienced you should make a reasonable effort to familiarize yourself with the rules. It'll only bite yourself in the butt if you don't. You should get the hang of things in time. |
| Zombomaniac01-18-07, 09:01 PM | CaptainShar welcome to the Guilds and we are gald to have you. On your Play-by-post issue its not really all that different from normal play. Instead of saying what you do you type what you do. |
| turalisj01-18-07, 09:04 PM | I have a question for you all: What kind of book should I grab next? I'm tied between complete scroundrel, and complete mage. |
| Dyne01-18-07, 10:04 PM | CaptainShar welcome to the Guilds and we are gald to have you. On your Play-by-post issue its not really all that different from normal play. Instead of saying what you do you type what you do. And people tend to type it in a more interesting way, since "I move to X and attack Y" gets very boring to read after awhile. |
| Zombomaniac01-19-07, 12:04 AM | I have a question for you all: What kind of book should I grab next? I'm tied between complete scroundrel, and complete mage. I dont much like CS myself so far. I need to read more of it but it wasn't much to my liking. |
| CaptainShar01-19-07, 05:19 PM | OK, so the Guilds listed on the main The Guild House page are not actually games? I'm kind of confused... I'm attempting to join the Guild of Paladins - does statted play occur related to that thread? |

I'm attempting to join the Guild of Paladins - does statted play occur related to that thread? it may it may not. it kind of depends on the people. so far hey havent been using stats as far as I know, but they may be or might in the future. I know Ogbanar: Rise of the Guilds uses stats. |
| Dyne01-19-07, 06:45 PM | OK, so the Guilds listed on the main The Guild House page are not actually games? I'm kind of confused... I'm attempting to join the Guild of Paladins - does statted play occur related to that thread? All games are in the Legends of the Guilds sub-forum (as far as I know, since that's where they are supposed to be). The guild threads are more discussions on a particular topic, often including some diceless roleplaying of some sort. |
| CaptainShar01-19-07, 07:39 PM | Ah. So, I join a guild on the main Guilds page, then make a character which can play in Ogbanar's campaign, from that guild? And what level are characters supposed to be, anyway? I made a level 15, as per the character creation guidelines on the Welcome thread, but now it seems like that was something old and I need to make a level 8. |
| Sssargoth01-19-07, 08:15 PM | Ah. So, I join a guild on the main Guilds page, then make a character which can play in Ogbanar's campaign, from that guild? You don't have to play a charicter from that guild, or even have to join a game if you don't want to. For example, I pretty much run the psionics foundtion here, but I'm playing a pair of Rogues in Orcy's game. And what level are characters supposed to be, anyway? I made a level 15, as per the character creation guidelines on the Welcome thread, but now it seems like that was something old and I need to make a level 8. Yeah, that thread hasn't been used in about a year, and we sorta forgot about it, or else we would have locked it...so, pay no attention to it. If you are joining Orcys game, just remember to PM him your charicter, and not post it. Also, just make sure it fits the guidelines on the Ogbanar: Rise of the guilds (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=751579) thread. |
| CaptainShar01-19-07, 08:25 PM | Thanks, I'll see. I just spent all last night making the level 15...but I'll probably end up making a playable one anyway. |
| turalisj01-19-07, 10:03 PM | Thanks, I'll see. I just spent all last night making the level 15...but I'll probably end up making a playable one anyway. Meh, I'm working on the ultimate assassin (ninja/ranger gestalt with the spel-less variant) |
| jagggar01-20-07, 08:11 PM | Ultimate Assassin: DM: You're dead. Player: What? What happened?! Don't I get a save or anything? DM: No. You're dead. |
| turalisj01-20-07, 08:26 PM | More like... Pc: I sit down and order an ale Dm: As you sit down, the guy next to you falls dead with your sword in him. :D |
| CaptainShar01-21-07, 12:16 AM | OK, found my way around, made a level 8 - all good now (I hope). Thanks to all the friendly people over here! |
| Sssargoth01-21-07, 01:30 AM | This seems like the most appropriate place to post this. I made a new item. The Orb of Life. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=11242960#post11242960) Hope y'all like. |
