| Karn Dragonsbane01-17-06, 09:02 AM | In some faraway place, a small manor stands out. It has a small green hedge around itself, white walls, several pine trees inside with small benches below them, two floors, and a concrete path lined on its sides with golden bear statues. There are a lot of windows, evenly spaced. Strangely, on a nearby plateau, there is a flattened dirt zone with several piles of weird-shaped blocks of different colors. Welcome to the Puzzle Makers guild. This is the place for those who know of puzzles, and mean to share their wisdom. Puzzles are some of the most important parts of fantasy, about as important as everything else. If you can make puzzles, please join. No quote. If you mean to learn about puzzles, you can either join, or simply enter, ask, then sit down and listen. As a secondary fuction, we provide alternatives for those things youīre simply bored of, or donīt mean to use. You know, like the Drizzīt clone, the lich necromancer in the middle of the crypt, the ex-paladin blackguard, the ancient red dragon in the middle of his hoard in a cave at the top of a mountain ready to devour the princess, the maze that can be solved simply bordering your left, and those. A puzzle can solve many things, and it might even be better than a combat. Besides, there is much that we can learn from each other. If you wish to share some wisdom, then Iīd agree to it. I do requests. Other members might, and as well might not. Those requests take a reasonable amount of time, though. Requests, members, shared wisdom, and finished puzzles/alternatives will be posted on post 1. In-Character: A neck-length black-haired, tall man with brown eyes, wearing a formal suit, is sitting on one of the benches. He caresses a white cat... "At last in peace, Dhole. Still, I want to thank whoever it was who cremated me... And I still have this damned necklace. I donīt need it anymore, but someone might..." "Nevermind, I wonder if this time I will get dragonstruck. Last time was almost a disaster... Fortunately cremation to ashes tends to delete scars. And without that overheavy stress, I have regrown my hair. Like in the old times... I feel like 10 years younger." The cat purrs a bit. Then shifts his tail. "Right. Not so much younger... Age still has set itself afoot. And the anger that fed my strength... Gone like the wind. Still, I am a better man, I think. I mean, I think much clearer now. I can see Iīm no use now. Perhaps this redeems me." The cat nods. "And, now nature has answered to me after all. Finally I can do that trick with the fire." The cat suddenly stands up and looks at him, like pleading. "Hey, no way. Iīm no circus lion." The cat gives a bored look. "Weīll see action soon, I believe. I donīt think they could leave my trail that easily... Just that this time, Iīm afraid I might die." The cat gives a concerned look. "Yes... Thereīs no more anger in my veins, no more vengeance in my soul, no more time in my hands, no more cards up my sleeve, no more friends answering. If they do that again, Iīm as good as dead." The cat gives a pondering look. "Of course, thereīs that I can do now. But itīs useless. Weīre talking 50 to 1 odds, and that counting you. My sword is now got that last enhancement... Letīs hope it is of aid." The cat looks away. "Of course, thereīs still the possibility that they simply donīt come. I hope for the last one. Iīve had enough of blood for this lifetime, at least." The cat seems to sigh. Then meows. "Yeah, back on topic. How to properly counter that tactic on a maze... easy. If you go for the left border, Iīll make sure it closes upon itself. That way, youīll end back where you started. Itīs hard to close things like that... It makes for far less dead ends, though." "MEOW!" "Ok, then you have to create a larger maze." "meesh..." "Of course, enclosing the maze is necessary unless you want an infinite maze or an extremely easy exit. So, how to properly disguise the outer walls as inner walls?" "..." "Actually... I have no idea. A strange-shaped border might do, but a faithful person might end up out anyway. Some magic might aid... perhaps creating two areas that look exactly equal, but one being both the entrance and exit, with a portal that leads those walking out to the other area, unless they know itīs the exit... or have a key." "Purr... Meow?" "A compassī aid is limited when the maze is properly aligned. And if anybody reasons that two or more exactly equal areas is a clue, then it can be countered, too. Perhaps if the maze doesnīt rely on simply expanding an area in width and length, then an impression that the place folds upon itself... A small twisting might do." "Meowtoor." "Right. Those can escape out of anywhere... I wonder if they are a real pain in the ass to some gods. Nah... If a god had a problem with a minotaur, then the minotaur would be done with before he even attempted to stand away." "Phoor. Mewl." "Oh, right. Where was I... Yes, to enter the puzzle makers guild... Thereīs no real requisite. Nothing really to attend, and as a new guild, it has no allies nor enemies. Not yet, at least, and it has no importance of any type. The only benefit of entering, if you consider it a benefit, is the possibility of meeting people with your same interests... or whatever made them join. As a final benefit, you might gain access to a little, itty, bitty, minor, tiny, fine, diminutive, negligible time of boards roleplaying." "MEOW!" "Right. If you want, you can use the nearby plateau for beta testing your puzzles. Just give me a map of it in whatever way you want, Iīll compile it and give you some unbelievable images." Come on, join. There is much to do. And thereīs room enough on the nearby plateau for it all. |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-17-06, 09:16 AM | GUILD DATA Members: Guild starter: Karn Dragonsbane as... Karn Dragonsbane, disguised as someone else, under the name of Kevin Talbot (likes puzzles involving hints, and icons; perhaps jewels that shouldnīt be taken away, or continuous restarts unless specific clause.) Member 2: Mith_The_Godling as... kobold, not named yet. (no data) Member 3: Aramar the black as Aramar the Black. (likes puzzles involving numbers and words, and those which might require one to think many steps ahead. And, let us say that heīs not opposed to a hint every now and then.) Member 4: Thasis as... Alastor, leader of the guild of ultimate evil. Pearls of Wisdom: Karn Dragonsbane: "As long as you donīt royally screw up, there should always be another day." Aramar the black: "Never let your decisions be set in stone. Always be prepared to change what you have done in order to reach your goal." |
| Mith_The_Godling01-17-06, 03:12 PM | A kobold appeared before the large man and his cat. Looking at them both, he studied the man and shrugged as he hopped up to the man. "May I join your Guild?" He asked, stertching out a clawed hand. |
| Aramar the Black01-17-06, 05:27 PM | A half-elf, cloaked in the colors of night, walks up to the man and his cat, and looks at them. "Perhaps, I might also be welcome here?" |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-21-06, 08:03 AM | After a long pause, the man lets go of his cat. The cat immediately jumps to a tree, in an incredibly graceful backflip, and then looks around. The man, instead, says "Of course. May I know your names, and what else you wish to be told about you in our membersī data? Nothing too personal, just things like... What kind of puzzles have you done, what small pieces of wisdom do you desire to share, and what puzzles you like the most. That kind of... data. If you will, of course. You are already members, if you will." |
| Aramar the Black01-23-06, 06:43 PM | "Certainly. Often I am called Aramar the Black. I prefer puzzles involving numbers and words, and those which might require one to think many steps ahead. And, let us say that I am not opposed to a hint every now and then. Wisdom? Perhaps I might say: Never let your decisions be set in stone. Always be prepared to change what you have done in order to reach your goal." |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-24-06, 08:36 AM | The man grins, takes a small book and begins scribbling. "Okay, thereīs some new people on our guild. Aramar, kobold... Let me guess. You, kobold, entered because you were expected something that you arenīt because of your name, thus somehow finding that here we fix clichés too. At the risk of sounding too full of myself... Is your name Meepo, by any chance?" After a while, the man shrugs again. "Nevermind, people. Now that our intro is over, I have to change those clothes. So if you excuse me..." He goes into the house. |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-28-06, 10:49 AM | (he exits the house, wearing a gardenerīs outfit) Okay, whoīs ready for some puzzle talk? |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-31-06, 09:34 AM | After seeing that no one begins, the man begins instead. Nevermind, people. Does anybody know how to immunize a maze against the "spin left" trick? |
| Aramar the Black01-31-06, 06:15 PM | And the "spin-left" trick is what? |
| Lady Rolindin01-31-06, 08:08 PM | magical puzzle's are interesting, like the portals. what do you do to open an unknown portal, what things are needed to open the portal. Thats just the start of magical puzzles, many other kinds too. gems that open portals to other demsion and hide secrets within. |
| Karn Dragonsbane02-07-06, 08:11 AM | First: The "spin left trick" is to place your hand against the left wall of a labyrinth as you enter. Then simply border the left wall as you go on. That cannot be overcome in any way, as you will simply return to the place you were on. Try it out; draw a labyrinth and try to do the trick. You will see, you will end up invariably in the place you began... under normal circumstances. This means, unless you place a portal (which may be noticed and thus treated as a wall), or close the entrance door in a way that disables its recognition. Does anybody know how to counter that trick? From the entrance, itīs impossible without magic. Even after entering, youīll have a bit of problem. You need to make the target lose its grip and then run through something confusing, then perhaps attempt to lull it into placing his hand against the wrong wall, through similarity perhaps. Even though, it is too hard for me to think. Second: Lady Rolindin... do you wish to enter this foundation? |
| Aramar the Black02-07-06, 05:47 PM | In a labyrynth where there are two outside portals, the enterance and the exit, it is fairly tricky to overcome the left-hand spin. In a maze where once must reach the center, it is much easier. Simply design the outermost sections as complete circle (or somthing similar), with openings leading inward. However, being a complete circle, the left continue just to go around and around. The center will never be reached until they take thier had off and go to the right. Include a couple more levels of this, protecting against repeated attempts at the right- and left- spin tricks. Then devle into the basic labyrinthine trickiness. |
| Karn Dragonsbane02-11-06, 08:10 AM | (The man grins) Right, when the entrance and the exit are different, and not on the edges... That spin-left trick is useless unless you mean to escape. So, thatīs it for today on labyrinths, unless someone else can tell us more on them... Now letīs pass on to other kinds of puzzles, if no one minds. Letīs warm up with a classic riddle... "Times it has been posed, times it has been rightly answered. As its answer is trivia passed down from generation on generation, yet only one man genuinely answered it, perhaps more. Now, tell me what riddle am I talking about." The answer I expect is the riddle Iīm talking about. Does anybody know what riddle I am talking about? Itīs terribly hard to answer on your own, but everyone knows the answer. Please. Itīs so easy. Clue: The riddle was posed by someone within the MM1... OOC: Also, one thing Iīm going to suggest, guys. You all could try to subscribe to threads, Mith_the_godling first. |
| Aramar the Black02-13-06, 05:17 PM | What's scarier than one illithid? Oh, and whenever I post in a thread, I am automatically subscribed to that thread. Thus, I have 60-70 subscriptions. |
| Karn Dragonsbane02-14-06, 09:30 AM | The man shrugs for a while. "I donīt know. I havenīt seen any ilithids in my life, but I heard some stuff about them. Jess the stuff scarier than ilithids might be some other aberrations, of the style of what ilithids consider aberrations, like neothelids and urithelids. Possibly the answer might be two ilithids, but Iīm not sure." |
| Karn Dragonsbane02-25-06, 10:24 AM | :bump: |
| thasis02-25-06, 02:04 PM | "Hello, I'm not familiar with this guild, but I do like the concept. I'll join. My name is Alastor. I am the leader of the Guild of Ultimate Evil" |
| Karn Dragonsbane02-28-06, 08:59 AM | "Sure, you can. We havenīt felt the need to turn away anybody, and I hope we never do... I suppose, Alastor, you lead an organization yourself. Iīve heard a lot of it. Sounds you really have gained power around... itīll be an honor to have you in our... among us." Then the man lowers his voice to a whisper... "I hope you donīt really mind, but if you could aid us a bit... weīre in dire need of an ice breaker. Do you have any puzzle ideas, questions or needs?" |
| Aramar the Black02-28-06, 09:44 PM | heh, I know it;s real world, but..Anyone have strategies for solving a Rubik's cube? |
| thasis03-01-06, 12:11 PM | I recently came up with a puzzle where the players get trapped in a room with three keys and a orb. Basically the players eventualy realize that they have to break the orb. Inside the orb is a peice of paper that has a hint of which key is the right key. Each key opens the door needed to exit, but only one does so without activating a trap or to :P |
| Karn Dragonsbane03-04-06, 10:33 AM | The man sighs. "Iīm no pro, but well, here goes nothing" "A rubik cube... That is a wicked one. This is the secret: the only way to solve a rubik cube is to undo each step consecutively. There are only 6 sides to it, and each side can be rotated to three positions different to the first. So you cannot possibly solve it eliminatively, because it will only further jam itself." "Those 6 sides, and 3 movements, allow a total of 18 different turns at each position. Then you must imagine how many turns were taken. Itīs that number to the 18th power the number of different positions the cube might adopt. I would recommend you to, before you even start, begin keeping track of how do you move, so you can always come back." |
| Aramar the Black03-06-06, 10:19 PM | The man sighs. " I would recommend you to, before you even start, begin keeping track of how do you move, so you can always come back." Well, in most cases, one doesn't get that luxury, or it's too late even if they once might have. I don't even want to do the math for the possible movements that I could make our cube at home. |
| Karn Dragonsbane03-07-06, 08:52 AM | "So... It might be a big problem then. I never managed to solve a fully jammed rubik, so the trick is to take not many steps away from its original position. Your only solution might now be to disarm the cube and then remake it." BTW, as an incentive to joining, Iīm going to add this. I suppose this is gonna be what it takes... Letīs see some labyrinth. Woo-hoo! Check īt out! M S still hot... nearly right from the oven! Iīm no pro at this, and I expected all of us to learn together, but well, seems Iīm the only one interested. This maze could be exitted almost immediately with simply spin-left. However it is not a maze meant for entrapment of those who enter. It is a maze meant for safeguarding of something. The red dot points to a place that cannot be acceeded with the usage of tricks. It is the best place to place the target, which should ideally be the entrance to a lower level. The blue dots marks the places where to trap first. In this example level, all places that allow short-term choices to the adventurers are considered the ideal ones to trap. It is recommended, in a multi-leveled dungeon, to alternate between short-term choices (marked blue), long-term choices (marked black), and options with results unknown (marked white) at each level. The metal-colored zones are places that only someone who is either a fool or explores for the sake of exploring would touch, since the edges of their accesable zones are perfectly clear, and should be trapped immediately. For any purposes, a short-term choice is a differentiated path that clearly allows the same result for all choices. A long-term choice is a differentiated path that seems to show the same outcome (and most of the time does) through both branchings. Options with unknown results are branchings of a path that lead to obviously different places (most of the time they do) and allow no peeking at all. Keys should ideally be placed on dead ends, which become then the best place to trap. In this case, the keys (yellow) will be placed on them. Always a trap will be protecting them, but only from one of the possibilities; trap two, and the navigators will become wary and careful instead of confidently trying to choose the right one... There is also the possibility that the navigator will become careful anyway, in those cases it is best to place an obvious trap and a not-so-obvious one together. The doors are marked with brown. I imagine a door would be a clue as to which one is the right path. So they can be used as red herrings... I have marked with dark green those places where a door would mislead someone with more brawn that brains. They should be trapped not immediately after the door, but much later. Monsters function well as such traps, yet sustenance would be lacking in most cases. I imagined that you would notice that most doors consisting of red herrings have traps right before them. You can expect the navigator to notice it, too... Thus, this makes it useful to conceal the last true doors with the same markers that the red herrings use. I havenīt done this last step. I suppose this might encourage some people to join the puzzle makers guild. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=599907 |
| Aramar the Black03-07-06, 10:39 PM | Yeah....gonna need a picture to better understand what your talking about.... ;) P.S. My grandfather's trick with a rubik's cube is to relize that the colored stickers actually come off..... |
| Karn Dragonsbane03-11-06, 08:24 AM | Ogh, nevermind about the whole labyrinth thing. I suppose I suck about CGI anyway... And my program to create them is the one I use for Half-life V1.0 levels, and it doesnīt even work to create them... I had bad news: Iīm beginning the next school year past tomorrow, and I wonīt be able to post here as often. Iīm sorry, really. I expected a greater attendance, and I began this identity for the summer break. It seems it wasnīt such a good idea... |

I've complicated my life, and my posting/contribution is horribly limited. |
| Karn Dragonsbane03-18-06, 09:06 AM | Hmm, no problem with that... Iīd recommend you something. Iīd recommend you to use this guild only as a reference, perhaps sig a link to it. Then unsubscribe from the thread, and only post when RP-ing, your forest dwelling dudes need some puzzle aid. Iīll always be here awaiting for someone to join. :) |
| Karn Dragonsbane03-25-06, 09:47 AM | (suddenly shifting into existence) "Uh, what an horrible mistake. This was confusing... I thought Aramar the Blackīs presence had brought in Lady Rolindin because she recognized him as the same A from her guild... Seems I was kinda mistaken." "Duh, nevermind. Just wait a week until the teleporting anklet reloads, Talbot... And begin thinking about something to do. Just that thereīs nothing to do here... Hmmm, Iīll take a nap. How did that beauty rest spell go... Oh right. Abra Kadabra Pikachu... No... Abra Kadabra... eh... Grimer... No... I got it... Abra Kadabra Megaman X... No... Abra Kadabra fleshy fruit with a green or red tone, which stablishes when exposed to the sun... No... Abra Kadabra Alakazam... No, it didnīt go like this. Iīah! Cthulhu Ftagn...?" "How was it... Oh, right." "absnaappa trenus ``^s thumawe=?" Then he punches himself in the face and falls asleep. |
| Lady Rolindin03-25-06, 04:22 PM | lets see a puzzle box that crossed my mind. a black laquered box with no hinges or lid, on the top part as your holding the 3 inch box is shooting star. On both sides is the sun, on the other side as you turn the box over you see a full moon. This is a box made by the elves, you must know the word to open the box and reviel what is in side. as always the clues are on the box, elven cluse to speek the word that will open the box. the cluse are a full moon, a shooting star, and 2 suns one on each side. now what word would the elves use as a actavation word to open the box and reviel its contents. think of the heaveans. alll has been quite of late we all wait for thr gm's to come out with their rules. another elven mystery. a stone with ruins ectched upon its surface, what word would you have to say to open the rock and find out what is in side. answer is this: the ruin on the rock is a l shape with 2 short lines going at a slant through the l shape. inside is a ring an elf hide long ago, for safe keeping.. fighure out the activation word and you can get thering, you must study elven ruins to know the words they repsent. a 1 inch tall, by 1 inch wide emerald 1/2 inch flat with an 5 pointed star on one side. On one end it is cut to a small v shape, on the other end it is a half moon shape. what other pieces are missing to reviel what is inside the flat emerald. it is used for a elven tomb to open the door, or are ther more pieces that are ajoined to make an larger more compalced peice. the answer is both the emerald has 3 other gems of different kinds that once put together and you hold them reveil magic spells and some elven lore. With a location to an elven tomb, you must have all the 4 gems and place them in the spot cut out for them or the traps will stay active. the tomb of the elven grand arch wizard known as Moon Light. |
| Lady Rolindin03-25-06, 04:55 PM | You hold a staff, half way from the middle are 2 rings made of gems 1/2 inch thick each gem ring. the gem rings are 1 inch apart, the first is a ring made of ruby, the second ring is made from some kind of blueish-green gems. if you know the actavation word , you would be able to do this. the staff can turn in to two elven long swords +3, and they absorb 2 spells each. the swords also have the ability to cast chain lighting each sword. when you say hold the swords pummels to each other and say the word the swords turn into the staff again. the staff is elven wizard guardian staff. You hold a ring in your hand that has elvish inscription on the inside, made of a goldish materal. when you say the actavation word aromor sourounds your body, the armor is a full suit of armor. But the armor weight 1 pound and is flexabile and moves with your body, they armor has magic resistance of +15. the armor will allow you to travel into voids with out air, for 12 hours. the armor takes 75 hit point of damage before it disappears and you take damage. it's called a ring of armor. |
| Lady Rolindin03-25-06, 05:03 PM | You see a box 1 foot by 1 foot with no hinges or lid, light blueish with elven ruins on it. if you can figure out the activation word , you will find the box opens into and their are some books inside on small shelves. if you reach inside and take out abook you wil find the writing is elvish not common elvish but another dilect of elvish. the book become full size as you pull it off the small shelf, as you look back at the open box you notice that their is room for more books, alot more. the box can hold 500 books of the of your choice. a small traveling box elven wizard use to carry their magic library with them. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest03-25-06, 05:03 PM | I would like to proposition the construction of a puzzle. If anyone is willing to make it, let me know; I will give you details on its exact specifications. |
| Lady Rolindin03-26-06, 01:18 AM | what are the specifis, might be interesting to make. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest03-26-06, 09:00 AM | It is a device to be designed to test the true alignment of the one trying to solve it. If they are true to the order which they serve, they are unharmed, and rewarded. If they have wronged their organization or seek to do so in the future, they are harmed, even killed by the device. It is to be much like a 10-Sided cube, with alternate effects on each side; 5 good, 5 bad it is to be an artifact item, and each face of the cube is to be uniquely constructed, and each side must have a high CR on it. if you need more info, let me know thanks. Priest |
| Lady Rolindin03-26-06, 05:44 PM | Kobold_Ur_Priest It is a device to be designed to test the true alignment of the one trying to solve it. If they are true to the order which they serve, they are unharmed, and rewarded. If they have wronged their organization or seek to do so in the future, they are harmed, even killed by the device. It is to be much like a 10-Sided cube, with alternate effects on each side; 5 good, 5 bad it is to be an artifact item, and each face of the cube is to be uniquely constructed, and each side must have a high CR on it. as for the high cr the item wiuld have this plus and high sr also, if my dwarf Grand arch arcanast made the item it would have a sr of spell level +caster level + 10d10. since she is a 35 level wizard + spell level + any magic device she cast a spell on adds this to all spells she casts +10d10 have come up with spells to use already. Scurying Hawk fr spell 5th level False Aligment Fr spell 3rd level detect good or evil 1st level Memiory spell fr (red wizard spell I don't like the red wiazards spells my self) 8th level change aligment fr spell (red wizard spell) 8th level oath of service 5th level and a few more Im looking at. cr would also be very high. what i rolled at invisible castle.com for + 10d10 rolls 70, 52, 58, 60, 60 53, 61, 54, 65, 70, 50, 53, 63 all pluses to sr and others. exsample of one of the side I though of so far: has a ruin on the side with an A, but with a half moon where the line in the A is. memorie spell, this spell capturies all your memoires the characters has when the object is touched, or cast ont them. the spell if cast on an item will have all the memories on the ruin and with false aligment and lighting bolt also cast on the ruin. it will this; if the character is a spy for another guild then the ruin will detect by the false aligment spell that they are not the aligment they say they are and cause a lighting bolt to strike the character. spells can use are these lightning bolt 3rd memorie spell 8th flase aligment 3rd level wish spell to combine the 3, so can work all the time ruin sr ( spell resistance)is caster level 35 + 70 (plus from 10d10)+ spell levels diveded by 4 (average of spells used is 8) ruin spell restanince. so a spell resistance of 113 for the character to not be effected by ruins effects. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest03-26-06, 06:44 PM | uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what? |
| Lady Rolindin03-26-06, 06:54 PM | the ruin spell resistance for the spells she could use would be 113 for the one ruin for character to beat with their spell resistance save. and not to be effected by the ruin spells cast on the ruin. In the exsample i made. that is what i'm saying. remember that every character gets a spell resistance saving throw and if the spell resistance is from an higher level character or even made by a higher level character most likely the character will not make the sr. remember that every character gets a spell resistance saving throw, and a item sr ( for all characters have to make saving throw for item) is alraedy made when the wizard makes the item, the caster level + spell level. such if she was to make a ring of lighting bolt, this is an esample. the ring sr would be spell level + caster level + (for her a 10d10 added to it) regular wizard is spell resistance of this: say 35 level wizard + 3 level spell (lighting bolt), the character has to beat with their spell resistance saving throw the item sr of 38. my character would be spell level 3 + 35 level + 10d10, for the character to make their saving throw against. it's the same thing if a wizard cast a spell against your character, you get an saving throw for spell resistance. my character is just higher and more powerful, any item she makes gets the 10d10 added to it. Or any spell she casts the same effect a +10d10 added to spell. even though they get an sr save, if made by an higher character, it will be very hard to beat, you did want high numbers. and my dwarf grand arch mage if she made such an item would be very high. as for the cr, since she has an high cr her self. the ruins or ruin would have her cr per ruin or with all the ruins divided by all the ruins and have an avarage cr for the item if held. this is why the a magic item would have an high cr, the wizard making the item and the spells used. you want a multi object right, so the item would have a high cr for one ruin and while held all the ruins divided in to the added cr of all the ruins numbers by the number of ruins. avarage cr for the item is that while held. it is a multi ruin item. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest03-26-06, 07:21 PM | i honestly have no idea what you're saying...but yes, a high level item... |
| Lady Rolindin03-26-06, 07:30 PM | every character gets a spell resistance saving throw. with my character making the item, it would be higher than normal. a character making a saving throw against a magic item has to make this. a spell resistance saving throw against the caster level + spell level used on the magic item. the character has to beat the magic item spell resistance to not be effected by the item, a ring, wand, staff, or any other magic item. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest03-26-06, 07:36 PM | i know that, now should we work on the effects? |
| Lady Rolindin03-26-06, 07:55 PM | the spell reisitance for the one ruin is a 113 for that one ruin, the character has to beat that. the ruin would have this effect: if the character failes their sr saving throw. this happens. a lighting bolt will strike them from the object. doing this much damage, 10d6 + 10d10. the way it would be activated is by the false aligment spell and detect thoughts spell and lighting bolt spell tied in by a wish spell. the false aligment spell would detect any aligment not from that aligment, like an detect evil spell. except that the spell detects the aligment in question. good evi, or what ever aligment is used to check. my dwarf mage is a 35 level wizard, 25 level sorcereress, 20 level cleric, 5th level fighter.. so she can make items for clerics and wizards. you just can't use them in this game though, too powerful with the +10d10 she gets. |

If a charcter is a spy or turns against the guild , which ever ruin they are touching will do damage to them. 5. the ruins have a spell resistance to beat, in each case 35 for her level and damage done by the spells used. 6. in some cases the runes have no saving spell throw becuase of the spell 7. the spell effects are lised above in order, and any character touching any rune will feel the affects of the ruins touched, even if the character has the 10 sided die in their back pack, or other place not touching their body. since the dice will attune it self to the character, it will fell thier presents and make sure they stay in line with the guild. 8. the die has the attune spell so a character can get rid of the die. used. |

| Karn Dragonsbane04-01-06, 08:38 AM | Suddenly, the man awakens. "Ugh, yeah, all too pretty, but alas, Lady Rolindin. I donīt think you quite got the guild idea... ALL THOSE ITEMS YOU POSTED CONTAINED NO PUZZLES! THEY WERE MERELY COMMAND-WORD ACTIVATED MAGICAL ITEMS! And the emerald was a three-part key, not a puzzle!" Heavily winded, the man faces Kobold Ur-Priestīs character... Who was it? Tell me in a later post, Iīll edit this part. I donīt think I know you, but if you desire, Iīll create said puzzle. Iīm no great grand archmage, but I know a string bit or two of the art since... little ago... and I could planify its construction. As for Lady Rolindinīs attempt at it... Itīs inspiring. I just wish she had a stronger grasp on reality... An itemīs resistance to magic, banning any custom technique used in the process, is a reasonable base verging on the average of a full random, adding the casterīs power. Not ten times half a full random adding the casterīs power and then each spellīs power. That assuming the item has resistance to magic." OOC: "the average of a full random" is 10, and "the casterīs power"... if youīre paying attention, I donīt have to tell you. "Ten times half a full random" is 10d10. "For such an item, I doubt any spell will really do. Youīll need something that can subdue and go beyond the powers even at the Dragon Foundation, which is impressive even for a living onslaught like me... Er... Like Karn Dragonsbane, I mean. Iīm just Talbot." The man laughs nervously for a while. "The ways to actually create an item like you say, are beyond anybody in your guild. Attempting to create an item capable of infinite rewards has been a holy grail since the dawn of time... Youīll need someone FAR beyond our scope, someone a long way cool out of our league, and willing to help." "I know of someone, but... I donīt... well... think itīs... healthy to meet him. I mean, Entropy wonīt forgive life if it can help it. If you desire to know more of him... err... letīs say nothing is free. Just cross my palm with silver." OOC: He means a silver piece. Although Iīd like a more creative answer, like impaling his hands in silver. As for the person Iīd like you to meet... Letīs keep it a surprise. If you can tell me who is it, you need not pay me. A clue: Its name isnīt Entropy, donīt be a fool. PS: Iīll be working on your request. OR you may use Lady Rolindinīs one... though youīll only be encouraging the Dragon Foundationīs member, Turalisj (AKA dragon-boosting happy) to go even more munchkin. I think he would REALLY be willing to create a 50 HD-advanced great wyrm gold dragon Sor 90 just to break a box. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 09:51 AM | Karn, if you can create it that'd be good,...i cant really understand her stuff too much...i would appreciate a list like: side 1: blah blah blah DC whatever side 2: blah blah etc |
| Karn Dragonsbane04-01-06, 10:41 AM | The man sighs. "When I tell you to cross my palm with silver, it means to pay me. Well, nevermind. Iīll get working on it. If you can tell me who is the person Iīll recommend you, you donīt have to." "The power calculations, I imagine you know. About being both an attack and a reward..." The man then goes to a small bench, takes a notebook, and begins writing a recipe. "You just have to take this Iīll give you to the one Iīll tell you, but that part isnīt free. Then do as he says." Then he goes on with his writing... Stops suddenly, and takes a new vial. One with a golden, reddish ink. "And please donīt read it. Just give it to the person Iīll tell you... or you guess." OOC: RP a little, Kobold! O servant of Entropy I am but a mere bringer of destruction, and my path is finished. However more devastation is required, and for that purpose I will contact you. There are those who are untrue to their cause. They dull the blade of destruction, since the forces must clash as raw as possible. Please help this messenger of chaos with his mission. I have written the most raw details of the work here. I have also attempted to gain a certain insight into the materials which shall be required. This is a list of those materials... -A material even you, O forger of destruction, have discarded. I think that might be hard to obtain, in the heat of your forge it might have dissolved or burnt. So with this letter I brought some worthless junk, or the closest Iīve found. -A terror bloom... Those come from a desertical world from which there is no escape. Fortunately I have one, which Iīve sent too. -The most raw of fires. I have a small globe of it here, mailed with this item. -A wealth of five million gold pieces in non-metallic material. So Iīm including a portal key that will let the messenger reach a location Iīve heard of in the plane of Minerals. A reintegration key is also here. -An eternal dying cry trapped within the last of prisons. I imagine such a thing might be in Carceri, but I donīt know how to get one. -An entire efreetīs essence. Thatīs going to be a tough one. -Light broken. Dunno where to find it, I imagine the plane of radiance might have something like that. -A manīs last copper. -Silver exchanged for teeth. -Stable disembodied lifeforce: thereīs some at Burst Cluster in the Positive. -A fallen angelīs blood. -A risen fiendīs blood. -A rogue modronīs gears, beaten to pulp. -Something like the blood of a chaotic monster who turns to law... that one will be hard. -A voidstone about 1 foot across. -The rest of the material should be up to you, brother of metals. Iīve been only able to compile those. The one known as Coaxmetal, I imagine you know how to test whether someone is true to his essence. That is what the item has to do. It has to test whether each entity who hold is has been true to the cause, faith and beliefs he claims to uphold. Can you? I know youīre not limited to weapons. You created once the most impressive birdcage ever. "I suppose it should have the shape of a die with 10 faces. There is NO such thing as a 10-sided cube, since cubes have 6 sides. Side 1: This side punishes with elemental damage (fire). Should clause in question be broken and the item held with the itemīs user holding it, a meteor swarm (insert appropiate metamagic until youīre scaled to desired damage) engulfs the caster, centering on him. Average damage by meteor swarm: 6d6x4 (84 damage average). Metamagic (empower): 1.5 (6d6) x 4 attacks (124 damage average). Metamagic (maximize): MAX (6d6) x 4 attacks (144 damage average). Metamagic (twin): 6d6 x 8 attacks (168 damage average). Metamagic (Intensify): 2xMAX (6d6) x 4 attacks (288 damage average). Multiple attack combinations: Metamagic (max and empower): 216 damage. Metamagic (Twin Max): 288 damage. Metamagic (Twin Pow): 248 damage. Metamagic (Twin Intense): 576 damage. ONSLAUGHT!!! Improved metamagics suggested: 3 Always remember, kids: Intensify spell doesnīt mix with Maximize and Empower, itīs in the feat description. Youīll need to have the guy whoīll make this get the "Improved Metamagic" feat thrice if you want the Intense Twin spells. That will reduce the levels added to just 5. Itīs from each metamagic feat. I WUV abuses! However not everything can be damaged with fire. For those purposes, I imagine youīll need the following cube sides. I entrust the damage maps to you. Side 1: Fire spell, 20d6 up. Side 2: Cold spell, with Piercing Cold metamagic. It was mentioned in the boards, that the Piercing Cold metamagic caused cold to ignore resistance and immunity not based in structural issues. Side 3: Sonic damage. Side 4: Special harmful effect (see Prismatic Sphere for details.) Side 5: Devastating, structural-harming death spell. Side 6: (Only works for those who are true to their cause, or something) Creates 2.000.000 cp. Side 7: Creates 300.000 sp. Side 8: Creates 40.000 gp. Side 9: Creates an item of up to 50.000 gp in value. Side 10: Grants three wishes." Thankful, awaiting demise, Karn. P.S: Coaxmetal, I doubt this messengerīs intent about destruction. "As for the spells involved to scan the target, artifacts are immune to mortal magic... and in some cases to divine powers too. So it should simply work." "Now wait for me a while. I have to assemble some components." The man goes into the house, leaving the paper unattended, to the wind. But a white cat jumps and steps on the paper, preventing it from being blown away. Fifteen minutes later, he returns with a small oakwood box. "The fee is... let me see... 100 gp. Or you can guess who am I talking about." |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 11:35 AM | The small figure looks quizzically at the being before him. "I have little time for idle chat, we need this item for the new Guild." He hands him a small pouch containing 500 gp. "Keep the rest, I may require you to enhance the product after the final model is made, or to make some other useful items." With that, he and the werewolf accompanying him turn and leave quickly, folllowed by a small form composed of utter darkness. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 11:53 AM | The shadow demon turns, flowing back into the room as the others continue out the door. It drops a small note at Karn's feet. PREFERENCES: or if you can do better, please do (MAKE EVERYTHING MAXED/twin-spell/etc if possible) SIDES- 1- heavy damaging spells (empowered, twined, etc) 2-boosting spells, etc 3-draining spells, etc 4-permanent deformity/damaging effect (template/graft/symbiot/etc) (if unfaithful) 5- Eternity of torture (empowered,etc..) 6-permanent enhancement (template/graft/symbiot/etc) (if faithful) 7-Forcecage/ high summoning(maybe epic) spell 8- high summoning(maybe epic) to aid faithful 9-Nailed To The Sky (if unfaithful) 10- 3 wishes (if true to organization) After delivering the message, it also drops another small pouch, with another 500 gp. It then turns away, exiting with the others. I gave you 1,000 gp so far, if more is needed, it will be provided. I will not tolerate traitors within the new guild. This is their test. some text/flavour will be needed along with the descriptions of the sides, if you dont mind. Also- when the item is done, I'll give Karn a nice fee too. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 11:56 AM | "As for the spells involved to scan the target, artifacts are immune to mortal magic... and in some cases to divine powers too. So it should simply work." ah yes, i forgot--need the detection spells and others such like them also...thanks |
| Lady Rolindin04-01-06, 02:24 PM | each rune is made witha a detect good (i believe that you want an evil guild), and the character will get a different effect depending on what runes they arr touching. the runes are listed in order, with rune discrption and their effects. you can not touch them your self, you as guild master will have to leave tthe small 10 sided die in the magic reperduction box so the box can make more 10 sided dice. it's not hard to understand what i wrote, the runes and their effects. I will put the 10 sided die in the magic reperdouction box, (not touched by any one's hands, this is to allow their memories to not bo inputted in one of the runes.) you want a 10 sided die so keep your guild characters in line righ this 10 sided die will do that and the character wil not be able to get rid of the 10 sided die. the 10 sided die will stay with the character, becuase of a spell and if they leave it somewhere it will go to them. this is to keep your guild characters in line and they won't know about the 10 sided die pwoers or effects. I can make not such a strait forward magic de3vices, that are puzzles. such as the High elven book box, I allready put down. the 10 sided die is for Kobld ur pries and his guild. each rune has a spell resistanc for the character to beat and spell saving throw and damage. Kobold_Ur_Priest just becuase I did not do a write up on the 10 sided die does not mean it won't work, i can do write up on the powers, the stats are listed. and you can keep your gold, my dwarf archwizard don't need gold in any way, she has the metal polymorph spell (fr spell) and she can take rocks or any other type things and make them into gold or silver, or copper or any other metal. she can also use a shape spell and make all rocks turned into gold in to trade bars, gold coins or what ever kind of metal coin they are. the spell even puts the design on the coins, or trade bars. please keep your gold. if you want a write up i can add that to the die runes powers. she don't need gold of any kind she can make it by her self. edit I was thinking of making the dice out of Nehterilan Silver skin metal. my dwarf mage knows how to make sliver skin, dark skin (dark metal), gold skin metal, wood metal, rock metal, water metal. do you have a choice of metals, all Netheril metals have a hardness of 20 to 30 and hit points. just like the ring of armor, thats how the armor is made (the netheril learned it from the elves). |
| Lady Rolindin04-01-06, 03:01 PM | Karn Dragonsbane you want another puzzle here's one. a round black ball that once a character passes it will follow them. why does the black ball follow them? what powers does the ball have? the character will have to catch the black ball and take it to a wizard who can tell them the powers of the ball. once the charcters take the black ball to the wizard and the wizard finds the powers of the ball, they will find thisout. the black ball has flyimg ability, and has serval spell input into the black ball to proctet the person. chain lightning bolt upon command word, distrangation ray and an anti magic zone all spell are usable once per day. The black ball has a attune spell so it can attune it self to a person and follow them around. The history of the black ball. the wizard Zerhmen made the black ball 1,000 years ago to proctect him self while he went on his travles seeking magical knowledge. Zerhmen was in a dwarven cave whne he triggered a gate to another world and has not found a way to get back to this world as of yet. the blck ball was not able to go throught the gate because the gate only allows living things to travel throught the gate, and the black ball is a magical item and can not go through the gate unless held by a person. the dwarfs made the gate so they could travel back to their home world. A small wood 2 inch cube that once the character touches the wood cube changes shape. from a six sided cube to a hexogon, then to an round circle. what does the shapes mean and what powers do they hold? by touching one side of the cube the character will find them selves inside a building with no windows, with 4 levels of different kinds of rooms. each one is different from the cube form, circle form, hexagon form, each has different kinds of rooms with different sizes and shapes. how does one escape from the object, what is the key to getting out of the object. whereare you at in another demsion, another place that is it's own space with in it's self. spells used polymorph X5 wish spell 5x permancy 10x |
| Lady Rolindin04-01-06, 03:22 PM | Karn Dragonsbane all magical items i posted have the command word so the dm or gm can know how to use them. the character will not know the command word or how to use the item posted, they have to experment wil the item and find out how it works. they are puzzles that have to be solved by the character, a character will not know how to use the staff of the elven guards unless they play with it. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 03:30 PM | I shall wait on Karn. The gold was offered to him, since he knows slightly what I have in mind. Look @ the sig i put into a comment earlier, that has basically what i want |
| Lady Rolindin04-01-06, 05:04 PM | Karn, if you can create it that'd be good,...i cant really understand her stuff too much...i would appreciate a list like: side 1: blah blah blah DC whatever side 2: blah blah etc Kobold_Ur_Priest you need the cr (challenge rateing), and sp (spell resistance) noted, this is why. say your group for the goue starting in the new game has a cr of 7 average (4 characters of 7th level added together and then divided by 4= cr of 7 group average). if the gm's have Hoborcs with a cr of 10 attack your group your out powered and out fought by the Hoborcs. the gm's can lower the amount of hoborcs to make them an cr of 7, cut the group by half or so. the 10 side cube my dwarfs mage made has an cr of 35, so any character in your guild will be out matched and so will anything Karn Dragonsbane wizard makes 9he has to put down his wizards cr rateing and sr). this is why, you have to be a high arch wizard to make such items in the first place. second to use the twin feat spell or triple spell feat your wizard has to be a high level to use these feats. so any item Karn Dragonsbane makes has to have the cr and sp added so you know what they are. I put mine down and she did use the triple spell feat plus the twin spell feat to make the 10 side cube. the cube has most of what you asked for, and will keep your characters in line. the spell were specificaly chosen to do this. if you want a 3 wish spells added then that can be added to on of the runes. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 08:37 PM | let him make it off of my list i posted before i WANT a HIGH CR/SR; i may use it in my real life game..which was the original idea |
| Lady Rolindin04-01-06, 08:53 PM | he can make it thats fine. most wizards do not have an high sr, even the chosin of mystra don't have an high sr, they can't match my wizard sr. my wizard with her +10d10 added to her sr makes her's very high( and i played her to that level). most wizards have get to beyond 60 or 70th level to obtain that level of of sr. most players don't play a character to 35 level wizard, after reaching 25 level it's hard to find a game to play a wizard of even 25 level in, much less a 35 level wizard, 25 level sorcereress. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-01-06, 11:12 PM | ok- you two can co-op on it, see what works out |
| Mith_The_Godling04-03-06, 05:54 PM | The kobold's brain seems to start working again. "Sorry, my brain froze up. I forgot my name as it is, but just call me Mith." |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-03-06, 06:28 PM | Mith is...alive how'd that RPG turn out? any chance of unbanning me? |
| Mith_The_Godling04-06-06, 12:50 PM | beats me, I was wondering what had happened to the game their. I came back and it was gone. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-06-06, 03:35 PM | beats me, I was wondering what had happened to the game their. I came back and it was gone. well our little friend got power hungry, made up some BS! about me & u, contacted the admin,...and had me kicked before revieweing both sides of the story |
| Karn Dragonsbane04-08-06, 09:22 AM | The man then looks around, surprised. "Wow, the trio went off so quickly, they even forgot their stu..." Then he looks at the table. His recipe is gone, the box too, even the pen he wrote the recipe with. So he screams a bit. "DHOLE!!! I KNOW HE DIDNīT TAKE THE PEN!!!" Then he calms down, and says... "Oh, a pleasure to meet you, Mith. I suppose, you know what has transpired till now... nothing at most. Hehehe, sorry, forgive my bad joke." "Use it in his real game... that is going to be helluva hard. How does he imagine he can use something the likes of that, except by tailoring the powerlevel to his targets? At the level he sounds like, a difference of twenty is easy to overlook. I wish him luck... wait a moment. I forgot to send him the name of the one he has to contact to fulfill the recipe." The man then whispers something into the air, and a few runes appear in his hand... "Coaxmetal... Within Sigil, which I suppose youīre familiar with, there is an abandoned siege tower in the lower ward. The portal key is to not want to get in. The inhabitant of the tower should help you." OOC: Ideal CR/SR/CL would be: CR no more than (3= hard, 2= normal, 1= easy, 0= very easy) levels above your party. SR around your partyīs maximum casterlevel plus (15= hard, 10= normal, 5= easy). CL around the highest SR around your party minus (5= hard, 10= normal, 15= easy). |
| Mith_The_Godling04-08-06, 02:42 PM | To Kobold ur Priest: Which is why I will never co-dm my own game over the web. To Karn: Thanks, now I just have to think up of a puzzle... |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-08-06, 03:34 PM | true true... |
| Karn Dragonsbane04-22-06, 09:36 AM | Then the man says "Iīll hear of your puzzle... Iīm sorry not having been much help. But thatīs the pretty thing about puzzles... They make everyone equal. No matter whether youīre as strong as your wolf, or if youīve just started... Strength matters not, intelligence neither, insight perhaps." "A puzzle to keep someone of that caliber... they might have a lot of resources to merely research their solution. A labyrinth will require an enormous size and they might even tear the walls off because they are so bothersome... Riddles can be consulted. Iīd say youīll need some kind of jigsaw puzzle, with pieces that interlock with all the other ones. Since that might not be enough, make them interlock with the outer edges, which shall come as a single piece, fixed into place. With such people Iīd rather be overkill than merciful. And if you still believe it isnīt enough, erase all sense from the pieces, so that an alternate method is required to decide which is which. Perhaps you could place four furnances in a room where the puzzle is, and then make the piece placement based on several layers, one visible with infravision, denied by the light of the furnances, one by heat, denied by the massive heat around, one by texture, denied by the dryness of the area, and one by color, denied by the lack of light. Perhaps some more, one layer based on magic... but that is a puzzle that favors the patient, not the heroic. To counter that, place the pieces apart from each other, scattered around the area. Do not forget to add at least three red herrings..." "I hope thatīs enough of a puzzle for your challengers." OOC: Really, I do... and I want to hear about the puzzle you finally used. |
| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-22-06, 11:57 AM | are you ever going to finish the cube thing for me? |

| Kobold_Ur_Priest04-22-06, 12:23 PM | ok thanks man, i appreciate it |
| Karn Dragonsbane04-29-06, 11:52 AM | Promises are debts... "I usually donīt help with magical item construction. I think someone should create a magical artisans guild, here I only make puzzles. While Coaxmetal makes his artifact, want to play the guessing game, Dhole?" "I think itīll wind up like this..." ???? (Major artifact): This is a ten-sided object of strange manufacture. At first sight it seems to be marble, yet after it it seems not at all like marble. Its colors are pure and different at each facet. Only its purpose is known: to test those who actually uphold the ideas they believe in, and tell them apart from the living after the ???? has made itself clear. In order to operate it, it is necessary to clasp it with at least one hand and gaze to the center of one face. Creatures without hands may simply gaze to the center of one face, those without sight need just clasp it and concentrate, and those without hands and eyes simply need physical contact and concentration. A creature also devoid of physical form may simply stand within 30 feet and concentrate to operate it. In those cases where a certain facet cannot be determined, the facet facing the entity is considered to be the one. In the case of bizarre entities that can englobe the item, all facets operate at once. The number of the facet concentrated upon determines the effects. Any facet: Any facet begins by scanning the user for weaknesses. There is no way to fool it; and it has no way of conveying them to anybody else. Then it does the following. I will try to be clear enough... Iīm NOT inspired about it. Facet 1: Tests: whether the character is actually willing to start over with a new alignment. Fooled by: May not be fooled. Attacks with: four alignment-based one-word utterance spells, 60th caster level, if wronged. Rewards with: a special limitless atonement (Use your imagination...) Facet 2: Tests: whether the character has changed recently alignment. Fooled by: Mind Blank, but then does nothing. Attacks with: ten summoned tarrasques, lasting 60 rounds, also counterspelling any Wish or Miracle cast within 5 miles. Rewards with: similar regeneration (30, no bypass) as long as the item is posessed by user. Facet 3: Tests: whether the character has used his power for the goals of another alignment. Fooled by: Raryīs telepathic bond, but then does nothing. Attacks with: a storm of vengeance, and an earthquake, centered on the user, once every round by 60 rounds. Rewards with: the power to cast spells as a 30th level sorcerer (spells limited to spells known well enough by character). Facet 4: Tests: whether the character has been attacked by something of his own alignment, and why. Fooled by: undetectable alignment, but then does nothing. Attacks with: 1 summoned outsider of the characterīs alignment per round, 24 HD max, stopping after 60 rounds. Rewards with: the same thing, usable once per day during a month. Facet 5: Tests: whether the character has supported something against his alignment (organizations, individuals, etc.). Fooled by: vacancy, but then does noting. Attacks with: 1 summoned great wyrm dragon of the characterīs alignment/round, stopping after 60 rounds. Rewards with: the same thing, usable once per day during a month. Facet 6: Tests: whether the character has used an element against his alignment (i.e. spells, items, whatever). Fooled by: antimagic field, but then does nothing. Attacks with: an intensified Mordīs sword. Rewards with: an appropiate epic magical item of their own alignment (i. e. Chaosbreaker axe, Holy Devastator sword, Unholy despoiler sword...), toned up a bit if worthy. Facet 7: This facet will test whether the character has ever killed any of his own alignment. It will agree to twisted logics, however. It will forgive acts previous to an atonement spell, assuming the user has the same general mentality he had at the time of atoning (intentions and alignment) Any kill of that kind will cause it to attack. This facet shoots out a barrage of twinned intensified magic missiles, dealing a total of 90 points of damage per round, and will continue its barrage for ten rounds. Retrying its usage will lead to the item casting a quickened timestop before attacking every round, throwing an additional barrage every round per previous try. Should it find nothing to punish, the facet will grant the user the ability to cast a sorcerer/wizard spell of his choice, 8th level or lower, at 60th caster level, as well as paying for up to 10.000 XP per day. Facet 8: This facet will test whether the character has ever killed any outsider of his own alignment on his own will. It wonīt justify in any way any such act, and will not ignore them for "greater causes". It can be foiled by a mind blank spell, but after recognizing its presence, it will avoid working for such an individual. It, however, will forgive acts previous to an atonement spell, assuming the user has the same general mentality he had at the time of atoning (intentions and alignment) Any kill of that kind will spring its vengeance. The facet immediately will shoot out a twinned, intensified, 20th level heightened delayed blast fireball right on whatever hole the user has at the moment. If there are no holes to aim at, it will instead place it right over the userīs nose, or above itself. If the user has any hand ready, it also is a good location. The blast from the ball will immediately cause 480 points of fire damage, also dealing it to a 20 foot radius spread. The main target is denied a save if he has any hole to shoot at (mouth, ears, nose...). The fire damage can and will pierce immunity, as well as any resistance but 30. Retrying this will lead the facet to use timestop, then shoot an additional delayed blast fireball at the target per previous retry. Should it find nothing to punish, it will grant its user the ability to cast Greater Planar Ally at will, but with a limit of 24 HD, and will pay for any costs involved in the spell. Facet 9: This facet will test whether the character has ever said something against his alignment. This facet allows, however, for ends justifying means, and will accept acts not immediately described by alignment. It functions as a zone of truth spell, followed by a question. As such, it is foiled by any effect that also foils a zone of truth. However, it wonīt work at all if so affected. It, however, will forgive acts previous to an atonement spell, assuming the user has the same general mentality he had at the time of atoning (intentions and alignment) Any act as the ones it hates will spring a trap. The facet immediately unloads a maximized energy drain heightened to 20th level at its user. The caster level is 60, and the save DC is 54. It causes 8 negative levels on its user. If the target is an undead or construct, then it will cast a custom spell to create an adamantine anvil capable of bypassing any DR except for silver right above the user. The anvil weighs about 24.700 pounds, dealing 126d6 damage to any corporeal target. The anvil also hits incorporeal, ethereal and out of phase opponents. The anvil allows a reflex save (DC 54) for half damage. Assuming the user survived and then attempted again to use the item, it will instead cast time stop on itself, then creating an additional anvil per previous try, up to a maximum of 9 additional anvils. The damage is the same. Should it find nothing to punish, it will instead reward its user with wealth beyond imagination. Treat as a custom treasure, with about 12d10 gems and 24d6 art, as well as 3.000.000 gp divided into 75.000 pp, 750.000 gp, 7.500.000 sp, and 75.000.000 cp. My, it makes me drool. And you? Facet 10: This facet will test whether the character has ever done anything incompatible at first sight with his alignment. This facet does NOT allow for ends justifying means, and will NOT accept any act which isnīt immediately described by alignment. It can trace beyond any barrier, penetrate any protection, and neither time nor space are of any matter to its powers of knowing. Mind blank spells, divine ranks, amnesia, NOTHING can fool it. It, however, will forgive acts previous to an atonement spell, assuming the user has the same general mentality he had at the time of atoning (intentions and alignment) If it tests and finds anything it searches for, then it attacks. The facet immediately shoots a five maximized, heightened to 20th level destruction spell at its user. The caster level is 60, and the save DC is 54. Total damage is 510 per failed save, assuming the optional rule is used. Should the target be death warded, then it uses disintegrate instead, dealing similar damage. Using the facet again will result on the facet using first time stop on itself, then using an additional spell every time; this means, one destruction spell the first time, two the second, and so forth, up to a limit of 10 spells after the 10th try. If no rejected acts are found, the item will instead become a servant to the user. It can grant 10 wishes per day, and will last a month. Then it wonīt accept any more commands. Should the user attempt to use the item another time, it will be warned. An additional try will result in the target being threated as untrue to its alignment. Iīm sorry itīs not enough of a guess, Dhole. I wonder whether I have said something against my own alignment ever... I should create a table for a 60th level encounterīs treasures." Lv Total 38: 442.000 gp 39: 486.000 gp 40: 534.000 gp 41: 587.000 gp 42: 645.000 gp 43: 709.000 gp 44: 779.000 gp 45: 856.000 gp 46: 941.000 gp 47: 1.035.000 gp 48: 1.138.000 gp 49: 1.252.000 gp 50: 1.377.000 gp 51: 1.514.000 gp 52: 1.666.000 gp 53: 1.832.000 gp 54: 2.016.000 gp 55: 2.217.000 gp 56: 2.439.000 gp 57: 2.683.000 gp 58: 2.951.000 gp 59: 3.246.000 gp 60: 3.581.000 gp "Can you imagine the actual pile, Dhole? | DeimosDeMalus04-29-06, 02:31 PM | thanks man! |
| Karn Dragonsbane05-20-06, 11:43 AM | Eh? Excuse me... youīre Deimos de Malus! What happened to Kobold_Ur_Priest? |
| Karn Dragonsbane05-27-06, 12:07 PM | Excuse my double post/bump, I need to call the whole of us puzzle makers. I had been making some recruitment posters, and I need a place to upload them to. Only I mean to ask: is it too much to make a recruitment poster for our guild? I mean, does it deprive us somehow of dignity, or in any way, break a forum rule? To avoid tripleposting, Iīll do the thing I had already ready here... In the plateau near the house, a slightly-tanned man with a green hood and a purple, bloated humanoid spider with a red fez stand in a rock square the size of a tenis field. Some crates stand near them. The man speaks... -For the purposes of having more people flock to our banner, we at the puzzle makers guild are giving free trapping classes. This is Akhog, our resident master trapsman, and Iīm... well... Talbot, leader of the puzzle makers guild and its assistant. The spider then takes a wooden empty square from a crate.. -Uh-right, we here are giving trapping classes. This is a way just so that you know how to do REAL traps that will keep the bad stuff away. First, we have here a normal door frame. Ye see, itīs jussīa door frame. So what do we do with a door frame when we want people away from it? What do we do, Karn? I mean Talbot? The man sighs, and then says with a childish voice: -I know! We add a door! -Uh-rong! A door isnīt good for keeping people away. It only slows stuff down. Lest you wanta pay for a big screaminī lock and a big screaminī door, at which point itīs gunna be ethereally bypassed by īnyone wurth the salt the door guards, keep them off with this. Spider-webs! The spider takes another door frame from a crate, this one full of cobwebs. -Yah see, thuse webs arenīt gunna just stand there as they get through...! But then the man interrupts: -Spider silk isnīt known for its strength, Akhog. -No it ainīt! It ain known for SPIDERS!! -Spiders die easily with fire. -Thatīs being not the spirit. This being the spirit! Spiders die with fire, flies die with fire, scorpions die with fire, mices die with fire, iron can die with fire, cats and dogs die with fire, people die with fire, elefants die with fire! Everything die with fire!! -And what do you suggest? -When someone burn cobwebs, they believe they burn cobwebs and thatīs it. Now, letīs do a small testiny. -Itīs "test". -Whatever the feck it can hugging be, just you watch. The spider takes a box from the crate, and opens it. Inside there are some rocks. -Now lookat this. When this stuff burns, it burns well. If things burn well, others burn as well. So add a fuse from cheapy peachy cobweb, and watch how duwe burn the transgressor. The spider places the rocks on the ground, takes a roll of cobwebs from a crate, spreads the cobweb with its hands, places some more rocks, and then places the webbed frame near the makeshift trapped floor. -Jess what happen when it burns? -Err... The floor bursts in flames? -Nuh-uh, nut yet. Uh, reminded me of something!! Waita minion... -Minute. -Waita minion minute... The spider takes some chemicals from a crate, and spews them over the makeshift floor. -Ta-daa!! Ya-taa!! Je-swhaa!! -Err... heck? -Now gimme a dummy... -...? -Dummy, the thing that hurts. Looks like a guy, and takes punches as a man. Is used for testing damage. -Dummy? Oh, right. The man takes a test dummy (car crash doll) from the crates, and hands it to the spider. -Now juice you wantch how it burns. The spider places the dummy on the makeshift rock floor. -When the suckas wanttas burn the spideys... The spider looks at the guy. -Burn da cobwebs! -Uh? Oh, right. My part. The man takes a light crossbow and a bolt from the crate, then burns the tip of the bolt with an orb he carries. He loads the crossbow, and then notices something. -Thereīs nothing to stop the arrow. -Eh? -Place a target behind the door! -There arenīt targets behind doors! -People usually burn those things with torches. -Burn it with a torch! -It might burn me, then! -Duh, whatever. Hope this does. The spider pulls a wooden plank from the crate, and then fixes it into place with some glue. -It should do. Now stand away... The spider stands back. The man shoots the bolt, and the cobwebs burn. Then the cobwebs ignite the extra webs below the layer of rock... And in turn ignite the chemicals embedded... And a small explosion shreds the dummy into pieces... Lots of burning pieces... -Yeh see??? It ainīt so bad to think a little before placing a door! -We have a problem. -Uh. Now what? -Assuming that they donīt survive the trap, what are you going to do with the next ones? -Ne... never thought offit. Jess ye maight jussa place a door behind the trap. -... And if... they survive? -If they survive, youīre pretty much screwovered. Unless... You know, people can think themselves so xnork sometimes. They canīt outxnork me, though; Meīs too X-N-O-R-K for them. Hoo! They cannīt even spell good! Itīs Xnork, whatīs the "A" doing there in the middle? And why do they say itīs tarts with S? The T at the end wanīt a good idea lest yehīs stupid. Hehe! When they believe themselves smart, you can cheat them out! Look, if you place the same trap thrice in a row, you donīt waste any traps. The first will hurt them, the second one will make them believe the next one is going to be the same thing, and in the third one, leave a bit of space between the trigger and the burns, and when they set it from afar, look at them burn!! Hoo-hooo! And it gets better... Thereīs a spell to protect from fire, right? Well, there comes my favourite technique! -Something new, perhaps? -You bet! My favourite damage isnīt fire, it burns! I like log damage! -Log? Diary? -Log! What you get from using an axe on a tree! -How does a log damage anyone? -Easy! Look at those things meīs gonna I pull off... The spider takes a rope, a flask, and some logs. -Jess whatīs this in a flask? -Err... no, I donīt know what that is. -This in a flask be some strange stuff. All I know, itīs black, it burns, and itīs oily. Mussa be some kinda coal-tar. -Petrol? -Do I look like capitalist? -...? -Dah, nevermind. Soak the rope in the stuff, itīs invisible underground with such light. It likes to burn a lot, logs really donīt. -So? -A section of the rope soaked in this, itīs gunna burn very well. When the cobwebs burn, this burns too. When this burns, the logs hanged on it fall. When they fall, logs out! -...? -Logs out? -Ayup, logs out! -... -See us the next time in "Logs out with Karn Drago... Kevin Talbot Weaver and Akhog!" |

| Karn Dragonsbane09-23-06, 11:46 AM | -Ah, damn! The man rang a bell, calling all of the members back. -Iīm calling you all to a meeting, people. We have something to discuss. You know, things like this... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40260769/ -I designed and drew it myself. What do you think? |
| Lady Rolindin09-23-06, 08:33 PM | the singn looks good Karn, this depends on how others view challenges. A good puzzle always challenges one intellect and their moral fiber. The sign could help to attract others. such as a trunk that has a lock on it , that has no key hole, no runes, just a plain metal lock with out a key hole. a uncommon rouge would think to try some kind of magic to open the lock, while the common rouge would give up and walk away. the answer to the keyless lock, could be a rune stone, maybe a magic word, or maybe a both. what would a keyless lock do to those who tryed to open it, lightning bolt maybe, teleport them to a force cage maybe, reduce thier size permentanly to that of a mouse's size and have the wizards cat play with them could be. The keyless lock could even turn their hand to stone, or turn them skin color purple permintly and then teleport them on too a mojor city street picked at ramdom. so many things to do with a keyless lock, so many ways to have rouges try to find out what they do, or if you spot on in a used lock store do pick one up. many suprise's to the one who can open it and used it. |

| Karn Dragonsbane09-30-06, 11:55 AM | Good job! Yes, good... Iīm running out of time. Wait for later for my conclussion! EDIT: Thanks for waiting... Devastar will tell you how do I feel about it. BTW, I was thinking we could do a crossover with the Foundation of the Fortress... No one minds, do you? P.S: Ah. Also, I designed a new spell. Most people donīt use illusions all they could, just because theyīre so easy to become immune from... but there are many things that True Seeing canīt decode outright, such as phantasms or shadow illusions. I was thinking of something along the lines of a creation/summoning spell, but illusions were better for this task. Theyīve got all that nice "was it here?" flavor... Whatever. A few puzzle-making spells... Containing Mirage Conjuration, Illusion (Shadow, Creation) Level: Sor/Wiz 7 Components: V, S, M, F Casting time: 1 hour Range: Touch Area: 1 space no larger than a 40 ft. cube Duration: Permanent until triggered (if delivering), otherwise permanent. Saving Throw: Will disbelief; see text. Spell Resistance: No This spell functions like programmed image, except it is permanent and includes a special shadow component. The shadow component can create anything that can be created by the spells shadow evocation or shadow conjuration, allowing the contents of up to one casting per caster level, with the additional power of lasting as long as the containing mirage spell, but anything it creates winks back to its starting position if taken from the area of the spell. Any element destroyed or consumed in the sub-spells takes 24 hours to reset. With a sucessful will save, a target can disbelieve the mirage and ignore the shadow componentīs effects (alongside anything that can be ignored in programmed image), but ignoring the shadow componentīs effects might render any good effect of the mirage as useless (i.e. a staircase wouldnīt bother to support a disbelieverīs weight, for example). The target may choose to believe the mirage in order to use it (i.e. fail his will save), but he must take the mirage as a whole (if the target wants to cross a shadow bridge, it must accept the fireballs and attacking griffons together with it). As a final effect, if the caster so desires, he may program a certain object weighing no more than 50 pounds, to be delivered under a certain condition (as an example, if a globe of light created within the puzzle is placed in the mouth of a shadow winged dire shark, then the +2 shortsword appears at the foot of the person who places the globe in the dire shark). Unfortunately, if this option is used, the Containing Mirage ends immediately after the set condition is managed, unless it has been augmented through the use of a permanency spell. Containing Mirage can be made permanent with a permanency spell. Material component: Fleece and jade, worth 1.000 gp. Focus: If thereīs a spell effect or item tied to a certain programming, the item or spell becomes the focus of the mirage. Attendant Conjuration (Summoning) Level: Sor/Wiz 6 Components: V, S, F. Casting time: 1 hour Range: Touch Target: 1 space no larger than a 40 ft. cube Duration: Permanent, but no more than 1 round/level at a time. Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Using this spell, the caster binds an indefinite outsider from the 7th level Summon Monster list to a certain set of conditions (come when somebody flips this switch) and a certain programming, to which it will respond. When the conditions are met, the outsider comes and acts accordingly to the programming. As an example, a LG celestial elephant may come when a certain button is pushed, and carry the person who pushes the button through a patch of razor-sharp, poisonous bushes. As well, a CE succubus might answer a few questions with data provided by the caster, appeearing when somebody lights a brazier. Another possibility might be a djinni offering a ride to another plane to whoever answers his riddle, appearing when anyone crosses through a certain door. Focus: Depends. It usually requires a parchment with the script to provide to the creature, and, if the condition involves something else than just a space in the middle of nowhere, the trigger for the spell becomes the focus, be it a rock, a bounded space, a brazier or a chain. |
