Requirments too join: A love of sci-fi, making a few scif-fi things would help but aren't required. You have to alert the rest of the club of any online sci-fi games you gm here on wizards.

Sweet, I love Sci-Fi. I have never played in any Sci-Fi games, but I want to. :)

I have a question for all of you Sci-Fi lovers. What invokes a sense of awe in you in Sci-Fi?? Is it deep space? Or Alien cities? What is it?

Sounds interesting. But I feel I must parrot my Science Fiction teacher (yes, its a class I'm taking): "Its either 'Science Fiction' or 'SF,' never 'Sci-Fi'."

I'm definitely in. Star Wars isn't really my thing, but I'm a huge Trekkie (no, not a Trekker) and read a lot of SF.
For me, SF is about exploration- finding out what's out there, or down there, or in here.
Has anyone discovered a decent D20 Star Trek system? Or, for that matter, a general SF system? How's D20 future?
Silvanus

10-10-04, 10:54 AM

I just got D20 Future. It's pretty good if you want alot of rules and/or you want to read lots of description stuff that will take alot of your time to read. I'm going to read the whole book once I've got the time.

10-14-04, 09:40 AM

lightman

10-14-04, 05:26 PM
how about someone make d20 future stats for the enterprise?
thasis

10-14-04, 05:34 PM
Sounds cool. I'll do what I can. I stopped watching TV other then movies and music video's last year so I don't know much about Star Treck.
lightman

10-16-04, 07:52 AM

actually, a borg cube could then come in, destroy the impstar, then be wiped out by a ssd. then that in turn would be wiped out by ssi-ruuk fleets. and it would be an endless circle of destruction.
dont mess with the starwars master ;)

I think it was a lot of Biotechnology. I know the main characters were some undead guy, a very pretty woman :) , a guy in a uniform that sort of looked like that of a Bellhops(He was the captain of the ship I think) and a robot head computer thingy that was very protective of the woman. They were on a giant bug ship and it had a very powerful beam it could fire. There was also another woman who infiltrated an enemy ship, and she lived in a plant pod. They were fighting against some kind of powerful entity that manifested as a golden head.

Ummm, yeah it was pretty weird.

Here is an excpet from a fan site about it.

The Lexx is a biomechanical insectoid spaceship about the size of Manhatten with an IQ of around 3. It also happens to be the most powerful weapon of destruction in the universe, capable of blowing up entire planets with one blast from its occular parabola (that's eyes to you and me). Its eclectic crew is comprised of one handsome, dead, 6,000 year old assassin - Kai, last of the Brunnen-G; one beautiful, genetically-modified, love slave/cluster lizard hybrid - Xev Bellringer of B3K; and one Security Guard class four - the Lexx's Captain, Stanley Tweedle. There's also 790, the de-bodied robot drone.

Here is a link to it.

Ta dude. Sounds fab - l reckon the stuff could be build/coded up - for game use.

Makes me nervous, thinking that something with an IQ of a cat having the most powerful force in the universe!

The beam - what was its nature or form or mode or basis?

Well, it looked like a very large sidewasy crescent that was golden in color. They tried to use it on a BUNCH of the enemies drones(which look like undead arms and a hand with tubes in them) in space, but they all parted perfectly and avoided it. In the first episode there was also a weird guy in clothes that looked like they were from the Renaissance period who said he was going to help them defeat their enemy, but he attached himself through a tube to the woman and basically was a :censored: for a while. He left to defeat their enemy but got killed.

I remeber the second episode ended with a universe being destroyed and them being in a different universe. They also killed the weird gold head thing that was their enemy.

I think the one on the far left is Xev, the one in the middle is the captain, and Kai is the one of the right.

Hi there Lightman - welcome aboard. Saw you at Champions of Pelor and glad to see you here.

Sounds like a good idea (last post). The sorts of science for Guild House Interfoundation Wars - hmm, let me see.

a. Using science to replicate some magical effects - but that which are immune to normal anti-magic tools, such as dispel magic.
b. Something destructive
c. Something constructive....

It seems to me this foundation is flouandering because this is primarily a Fantasy based forum, and with the Guild War, some foundations with not a lot of members are just being bumped down the queue. Hmmmm, I am thinking of creating a character for me for this foundation. He would be Aeseant, the Bio-Vizier.

Nope, but if I can ever get it, I would read it. :)

I am watching that Lexx show again, and one thing I have noticed is that 99.9% of people with the exception of the crew of the Lexx could be considered either Neutral Evil, Lawful Evil, or Chaotic Evil. I mean like everyone they meet tries to kill them.

I'm not that much of a Sci-Fi buff when it comes to classics and such, but I do have my own sort of odd Sci-Fi-ish world in my head at times.

I have a question for all of you Sci-Fi lovers. What invokes a sense of awe in you in Sci-Fi?? Is it deep space? Or Alien cities? What is it?
For me, I'd have to say the awe I get from Sci-Fi is in the same vein as the awe I get from fantasy. I sorta treat high-level technology as magic in some ways.
I mean, in your world you can't cast fireball, what do you do? Hello flamethrower. Time goes on, much closer to being able to do a fireball.
It's the doing what we can't do that's my awe I'd guess.

Best shows (prove me wrong :D ):

I agree with StarGate, BattleStar Galacatica (new) and Star Trek (All).
Have you seen the new Star Gate Atlantis?
I'm afraid 3rd Rock ended up to silly for me to watch it much.

I haven't seen enough of the Ghost in the Shell to know yet,
and my kids would want to vote for Ineyash (sp?).

@ Jagggar
I think my awe of sci-fi started with the first Star Wars movie.
Some how it seemed so real and ..... well... familar.
Maybe I was there in another life.?

:bump: I'll be joining this foundation or creating another one like it. I plan on making an Imperial Moff character. It should be interesting to have your own personal Star Destroyer.

Also, for any who play the Star Wars RPG, and for any who are interested, I adapted the Starship Combat rules to something more realistic and doable (people will actually be able to hit each other, I hope).
Dyne

03-20-05, 03:21 PM
JoyLynn, many of the events in Star Wars were based on real life. For example, the Empire was based on World War II, and they even used some of the real guns for props (some of them were modified for the movies, of course). Tatooine greatly resembles the Wild West (especially the Cantina, which is like a saloon). And the Galactic Civil War seems to be based on the American Revolutionary War.
