| kirellagen11-03-03, 10:39 AM | Alright! We are looking for stuff on the tauric races like Wemics, Bariaurs, Hybsils, centaurs, dracons, Driders, Formians, Lamias, Choldriths, Stingers, Abeils, Scorpionfolk, and anything else that has four legs and a humanoid torso. Kire |
| ebaatezu11-04-03, 08:08 AM | i am assuming that you hae checked out the planescape sites? as well as the spelljammer sites? they both have some useful material for you there :) |
| ebaatezu11-04-03, 08:09 AM | dont forget the dracons too :) they are in spelljammer kinda like a centaur but is armored and is kinda reptilian in nature :) hope that helps |
| kirellagen11-04-03, 10:32 AM | yah, currently i'm trying to find hybsil ECL. one online thing said ECL +6, but thats silly. Kire |
| ebaatezu11-04-03, 11:12 AM | :OMG! +6 ecl wow waaaay to wierd ..have you ever seen the darcons? |
| kirellagen11-04-03, 11:29 AM | no, what are they like? If you like them, would you join this foundation? Kire |
| Tenzhi11-04-03, 01:39 PM | ::actually looks at Hybsil entry:: Small size 50' Speed Pass w/o Trace, Dancing Lights, Mirror Image, and Jump 1/day each See Invisible at will Poison immunity +4 racial bonus to Disable Device and Search in regards to outdoor traps +2 racial bonus on Jump checks +4 racial bonus on Wilderness checks Mobility as a bonus feat Ability adjustments: -2 Str, +6 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Int +2 natural armour That's a boat-load of abilities to account for. By-the-books an LA +5-6 is probably correct. I'm fairly lenient on Level Adjustment and even I would probably give them at least a +4. |
| Simeon38X11-04-03, 03:40 PM | I'll join!. That tauric template is really useful. I created this cretin the other day... THE SHADOW STALLIONS Invisible Stalker + Umbral Dire Horse The infamous Shadow Stallion's terrorized a village in my campaign world. They looked like gigantic horses with night black incorporeal bodies. However when my party took them on it turned out they weren't the living dead, but a new breed of elemental that mimicked ghosts to scare other competitors out of their hunting ground. From waist they were actually invisible roughly humanoid shapes. |
| ebaatezu11-04-03, 04:16 PM | Yeah I love the Dracons for I am a necromancer and they make wonderful guards, steeds, and baggage carriers :) unfortunately I am not joking here ,I know of the dracons for my character at one point went out and hunted for their homeworld so that he could raise them as an undead army... It was quite an informative campaign that one was :) |
| kirellagen11-04-03, 05:16 PM | Simeon38x, glad to have you with us!:D Ebaatezu, Sweet race, i'll add it to my first post. Kire |

| Xavim11-04-03, 05:27 PM | I'm in, my favourite tauric is Dark One/Giant Octopus. Too cool for words. Its the character I'm named after. I have stats and a pic of him somewhere... |
| Tenzhi11-04-03, 08:54 PM | Originally posted by kirellagen Tenzhi #3 Aha... you must be new around here. I don't join Foundations. I may assist or harangue them from time to time, but I am opposed to their existence on principle. :behold: |
| Skar11-05-03, 12:46 AM | I don't see why the Tauric races have such high ECLs. I remember when I first saw the stats for Wemics back in 2nd edition AD&D and they weren't that great. They got a slight bonus to Strength, an equal penalty to dexterity, a few bonus hit points at first level, a +4 bonus to AC (natural armor), a weak claw attack and the ability to jump for longer distances. Now I hear on the board that they have an ECL of 8 or 7 or something absurd like that! What gives? |
| ebaatezu11-05-03, 12:46 AM | oh oh oh does that make me #3 then??? lol :) i am in the top three!!!! yaaaay but seriously there are alot of 4 legged being out there i find most of them by having bots do my searched for me when i am offline that way when i come back online i have this nice big list of stuff to look at :) i shall keep looking for other 4 legged beings as well for ya :) |
| Degobah11-05-03, 12:53 AM | When I'm DMing, my favourite tauric creature is the Chuulithid... no prizes for guessing what I crossed to make it...its only slightly illegal. Go the Tauric foundation! |
| ebaatezu11-05-03, 01:00 AM | hmmm... i thought this list was the taurica foundation??? |
| Tenzhi11-05-03, 01:04 AM | Originally posted by Skar I don't see why the Tauric races have such high ECLs. As I recall they get a rather substantial Str bonus and I believe a Dex & Con bonus as well. Natural Armour didn't stack with regular armour in previous editions so it was worth less than it is now. I'm not sure what other bonuses Wemics get, but based on my previous experience with ECLs I can guess that their proposed ECL is overshot by at least 2-3 levels. |
| Skar11-05-03, 01:39 AM | Thanks Tenzhi. Kirellagen, I did find this cool picture of a Hybsil here (http://www.battleduck.com/pages/imagepages/wotcimagepages/hybsil.html) and this site (http://members.tripod.com/dndrealmsofadventure/hybsil.htm) that seems to have some info on Hybsil. I'll keep looking for more. |
| Simeon38X11-05-03, 07:11 AM | Thanks for letting me join kirellagen!. Dont forget to add the following onto the tauric lists... Driders http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/tn_MM35_PG89.jpg Formians http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/tn_MM35_PG108.jpg Lamias http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/tn_MM35_PG164b.jpg Choldriths http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mof_gallery/tn_MonFaePG27.jpg Stingers http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mof_gallery/tn_MonFaePG81.jpg Wemics http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mof_gallery/tn_MonFaePG84.jpg Abeils http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mm2_gallery/tn_88268_620_1.jpg and finally... | Tenzhi11-05-03, 07:46 AM | ::looks up the Wemic now that he's at home:: Large Size 5 Monstrous Humanoid HD Speed 40' +4 Natural Armour Natural Attacks: 2 Claws 1d6 Ability mods: +8 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Cha +8 Racial Bonus on Jump checks Some hefty advantages there, but one must consider the fact that they're already saddled with 5 Monstrous Humanoid HD that aren't as good as Class Levels. Still, I'd give them at least a +1 or maybe even a +2 Level Adjustment for a total ECL of +6 to +7 - looks like the estimates you heard before weren't that far off. |
| Simeon38X11-05-03, 12:49 PM | Whats everyones actual favorite tauric monster?. I think kirellagen likes his Hybsils ;), but I might be mistaken. Mt favorite are definately Stingers, secondly Choldriths... http://www.geocities.com/leaves_or/Simeonsparty.txt |
| ebaatezu11-05-03, 04:31 PM | i like the formians myself ya give them an order and they follow it and once they are dead they follow your orders just as well as skeletons :) |
| kirellagen11-05-03, 07:18 PM | yah, i like hybsils. Ebaatezu, yah, i'll update the list. Simeon38X, thanx for the pix. cheers, Kire |
| kirellagen11-05-03, 07:25 PM | cool hybsil pix skar! Kire |
| Simeon38X11-06-03, 09:13 AM | Flavor question. What do you think would make a good tauric if I were to use a Gnoll as the base creature?. I would prefer a non-magical creature...:) |
| Tenzhi11-06-03, 10:01 AM | Originally posted by Simeon38X Flavor question. What do you think would make a good tauric if I were to use a Gnoll as the base creature?. I would prefer a non-magical creature...:) A dire Boar. |
| Simeon38X11-06-03, 12:26 PM | Originally posted by Tenzhi A dire Boar. Nah, I think Boars are more of an Orc thing...:) |
| baoban sith11-06-03, 12:58 PM | A dire hyena (do they still have hyenadons?) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder11-06-03, 03:58 PM | I wouldnt really consider Choldriths, Formians, or Abeils really Tauric races. They're entire bodies are insectoid or arachnid or whatnot. Instead of being more like two parts of something. |
| SkaterDM11-06-03, 05:04 PM | OO! I want on! My first monster character was a dragonne/elf! |
| ebaatezu11-06-03, 05:18 PM | I want a race that is half pitfiend and half giant poisonous snake thats my race of choice!!!:D |
| Tenzhi11-06-03, 08:44 PM | Originally posted by Simeon38X Nah, I think Boars are more of an Orc thing...:) Well, the obvious choice is some sort of big cat... but that would be redundant. I would suggest anything with hooves as the combination of "predator" with erstwhile prey has a certain charming irony, IMO. |
| Skar11-07-03, 04:24 AM | I agree with Tenzhi. A Gnoll/Horse hybrid would be cool. All will tremble before the charge of the Gnolltaurs! Now can anybody think of good combination to go with a Cylops torso? |
| Tenzhi11-07-03, 07:47 AM | I was thinking of Gnoll/Cows and the joys of fermented Gnoll milk... |
| ebaatezu11-07-03, 08:19 AM | How about a troll/lizard, or a bugbear/dire wolf? |
| Tenzhi11-07-03, 08:21 AM | That's an interesting idea... a Trolligator. It's kind of like a Vrockodile but it's not. |
| ikkonoishi11-07-03, 09:38 AM | Originally posted by Tenzhi That's an interesting idea... a Trolligator. It's kind of like a Vrockodile but it's not. I ahm the trolligator! |

Do you have the epic level handbook, because these might work... Bracyurus - a gigantic wolf Phaethon - a quadupredal, powerful fire-elemental Devastation Vermin - colossal ancient insects http://www.geocities.com/leaves_or/Simeonsparty.txt |

A Snake Fiend's natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as evil-aligned and lawful-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Constrict (Ex): A Snake Fiend deals 2d8+26 points of damage with a successful grapple check with its tail. Disease (Su): A creature struck by a Snake Fiend's bite attack must succeed on a DC 27 Fortitude save or be infected with a vile disease known as devil chills (incubation period 1d4 days, damage 1d4 Str). Caster level 18th. The save DCs are Charisma-based. Once per year a Snake Fiend can use wish as the spell (caster level 20th). Supernatural Abilities: can rebuke/command snakes as a cleric does undead at level equal to hit dice. Summon Snake(Sp): Thrice per day a Snake Fiend can automatically summon 3 large fiendish dire constrictors snakes or 1 huge Fiendish dire constrictor snakes.. This ability is the equivalent of an 8th-level spell. Regeneration (Ex): A Snake Fiend takes normal damage from good-aligned silvered weapons, and from spells or effects with the good descriptor. so what do you think there? |

| ebaatezu11-09-03, 01:39 AM | thank you very much kire (blushes here) it was not that hard all you have to do is take two or (my favorite) 3 races and meld thm together.in the case of mosters i generally try to make the CR as tough as the strongest monster i threw into the bunch,if i was for a pc class i use the weakest :) I want to do the same as above but for undead moncters like a nightwing and maybe a balor..... Hell of a mix (literally) later |

| The Ethereal Wickerman01-08-04, 03:44 AM | YAY!, were back from the dead!... What about this for an idea. I wanted a strange opponent for my players to go against. I thinking of making a Beholder + Desert Land Wyrm tuaric. So basicly its a Land Wyrm with a Beholder instead of its draconic head. What do you think?. I'll post stats later... :behold: |

This might lead to a myriad of Dragonbreath Beholders (which I will now refer to as DBB's, because I hate spelling it over and over again!). You could use the same stats, just different dragon heads. But we should probably move this topic elsewhere, because what started as a tauric beast has become totally different... |

| Yipwyg the Mighty01-30-04, 02:34 PM | Let me tell you, GREAT fun can be had with a Dekanter Goblin/Dire Wolf. Deadly, and cool. Now, for the Mooncalf... I'd say either an Elf, because the mental image in my head is incredibly graceful, creepy, and cool in my head at the same time, or a Dwarf, because it seems to fit. |
| Quartermain01-30-04, 02:44 PM | Someone should make a tauric race called... THE WYLD STALLYNZ! |
| kedi01-30-04, 06:13 PM | Welcome. I’m here to tell you all that the all races foundation is now opened. Wish to see you soon there. <<All Races Foundation>> (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=173715) :D The bard has sung! |

| Finwe04-15-04, 12:15 AM | Hello, My little ponies! ;) Let me be the first to welcome you to the new Guild House, or foundations board. All it costs to stay here is to send a magic item worth at least 20,000 GP to each of your GM's (me, sil and orcy) once per month. Seriously: Welcome to the new board. You are now free of the shackles of having to stay on topic for the particular board you are in. Now you can role-play, discuss rules or just generally chat. Enjoy! |
| Silmarien Aldalome04-15-04, 12:33 AM | Yes - Welcome to everyone - great to see you all here. ....we'll also be putting together some "council" threads to discuss what you guyz would like from the Forum. regards stav |

| kirellagen06-09-04, 02:47 PM | Well, I'm back. I was swamped in stuff for a while. I am not sure what Finwe and Silmarien Aldalome are planning to do here, but I suspect I will find out soon. Meanwhile, I am working on a Winged Werechipmunk Tauric Blink Dog/Myconid.:D Kire:smirk: |
| SwordMaster07-17-04, 09:57 PM | First of all, I want to apologize for not reading this thread before posting...please excuse any repeated ideas. :) Looking through Savage Species one day, I came across the section on anthropomorphic creatures. I flipped back to the tauric template and had an idea: you take an anthropomorphic creature--say, a lion person--and use the tauric template to give it the body of--you guessed it--a lion! You could do it with any animal: a toad anthropomorph × (giant) toad, etc. |
