| The Vorpal Tribble12-03-04, 03:59 AM | The Beastmaster's Preserve Roars, warbles, hoots, mumbles, screams, growls and creaks. Singing and howling and booming... your senses are bombarded with the sounds, voices and mental projections of innumberable inhabitants. All the planes are covered in their own form of life. Be it creatures that must needs be in lava to the deepest dwellers of the Underdark and those that flourish in the recesses of the Negative Energy Plane. There are none who can say they know them all, or have seen even the tiniest portion, be they mortal or ever-living. However, a number of individuals are said to know more of these monstrosities than any others. Warriors and druids, rangers and barbarians, amongst other walks of life seek out the Beastlands, home to a mass profusion of flora and fauna. Here they hunt and are hunted by creatures of cunning and spirit unknown in the tamer planes. Learning the ways of the beasts, and adapting to their ways But those that live and become wealthy and reknowned, where do they go after that? What do they do with their earnings? Once the White Stag has become predictable to their minds what is left to challenge? Such were the thoughts of Umbra, a bestial man of such a wild, feral nature that he could pass for an animal of nature himself. Prowling all the varieties of existence and joining with bands of creatures to defy the imagination he eventually came to be summoned by a mage of great power. Aware of Umbra's abilities but questioning even his prowess, he gave the feral man a quest. Umbra was to locate a creature that the mage had found mentioned in an ancient text. It was located and the mage promptly killed the beast. Though the spell-caster promptly transported away Umbra hunted him for years and captured him. Faced with death the mage made a binding promise. He would make for Umbra an artificial realm to his specifications and wishes if he would be allowed to live. This was reluctantly excepted, and so it came to be. A land that rivaled even the Beastlands in terrain variety. There was here a pocket of land that could be found anywhere on the planes. Umbra captured rare and common beasts alike and kept them here, where they would be protected, a far greater challenge than a simple hunt. Protected by loyal fey and elementals, creatures few if any have witnessed may thrive. A preserve that would attract the greatest of the multiverse's hunters and trackers. Here they could retire or continue in their trade, bringing in live, untamed beasts from all corners of existence to gain the admiration and praise of their fellows. Cities and empires could call upon these men known as the Beastmasters to remove ravaging monsters and terrifying horrors of flesh (and many not flesh) without the wrathe of druids plaguing them later. Come Beastmasters and join the Preserve. |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-03-04, 04:07 AM | How To Gain Elite Membership to the Beastmaster's Preserve #1. You must bring in a creature unseen and unheard of in its healthy state. A truley original beast that is to be released within the preserve. (I.E. To join you must write up a new, naturally occuring creature. One that has not yet been submitted on these forums or any others if possible. Note: Constructs are only allowed if they have evolved naturally, and the same goes for undead. An undead must not be the remains of any once living creature, but creatures that are born and powered by negative life as others are of positive life.) #2. Needs to be willing to travel to any plane or world if their services are called for in the capture and removal or handling of dangerous beasts. #3. Druids who give their services to contain, care, and watch over these beasts are automatically considered 'Elite Members'. -- Preserve Rules #1. No inhabitants of the Preserve may be hunted to the death unless Umbra (me) deems them of such risk that there is no alternative. Hidden fey will kill any who disreguard this rule. Hunts to capture a beast unharmed for the thrill and gaining of valuable experience costs a fee of 10,000 GP up front. #2. Hunts are at the risk of the hunter and if gone missing no official search parties will be issued, though any may go in search. #3. No littering. --- Hunt Rules Like the Mountaintop Arena, others may come here to gain experience points. However, unlike the Arena, if you do anything but capture unharmed (i.e. render unconscious, dominate etc) then powerful fey and elementals will capture you and keep you as a bargaining chip for the Beastmasters if you are useful, and simply kill you if not. Umbra will be alerted instantly if these laws are broken, as well as if you are successful in your capture. There is however nothing keeping these creatures from killing YOU. This is not a petting zoo. Resurections upon possible death are left to the hunters, though for a fee of 500 GP notice of your death will be instantly sent to any party, person, or organization you designate beforehand for possible retrieval. For 5,000 GP you will be transported to said party, person, or organization. The creature or creatures that the hunting person or party wish to persue must needs be specified before the hunt. A list of possible beasts for hunt may be found here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=155813) The exclusion to these are those of a nature banned from the Preserve such as those already mentioned. Bets and wagers are allowed. Any aid to beast or hunter from outside, nondesignated sources will be escorted forcefully from the Preserve. Repear offenders will be banned from the Preserve permanently and a Puppeteer (http://srd.pbemnexus.com/psionicMonsters.html#puppeteer) attached to the base of their skulls. -- All alignments, races and classes are welcome. :coolcthul |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-03-04, 01:03 PM | Note: None who wish to join will be turned down, but those who bring their own creatures will have a place of high standing. |

| Tenzhi12-05-04, 12:56 AM | Query: Why non-construct and non-undead? It is not inconceivable that such creatures might occur naturally somewhere (the planes of Mechanus and Negative Energy come to mind, for instance). |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-05-04, 01:11 AM | We only deal with the living :dragon: |
| Tenzhi12-05-04, 01:21 AM | We only deal with the living :dragon: Constructs may be alive. And undead are a form of life based on negative energy rather than positive. |
| thasis12-05-04, 01:22 AM | This is a cewl foundation. I'm not hear to join. Just to say it's cewl. I hope it gets some activity because this could be a asome guild in the IFGW. |
| turalisj12-05-04, 01:47 AM | i'll join. but can we have constucts? i have some pretty grotesce ones already made. such as the sewage golem. :D |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-05-04, 01:57 AM | Nothing that is fashioned is allowed. It may have a mind, but a construct is not considered alive. Undead creatures that are naturally undead are allowed, but cannot be the remains of a once 'positive-living' creature. |
| Tenzhi12-05-04, 02:17 AM | A construct need not be fashioned - it is conceivable that somewhere in the multiverse they are born rather than crafted - which is to say they reproduce themselves via instinct just as any organic creature might. Indeed, I seem to recall that Clockwork Horrors fit this bill. Modrons might be considered to as well. I can see where they must-needs be naturally occurring critters, but ruling out whole types seems rather anti-thetical to a guild purported to house original creatures from throughout the multiverse. I have a few things in mind I might post here, but I'm telling you in advance that I don't join guilds just so ya' don't add me to your list. |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-05-04, 03:05 AM | Have a point. I'll adjust the prerequisites to mean these things must be naturally occuring. |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-05-04, 03:35 AM | Have adjusted and added rules for Elite Membership and terms of Preserve use. Like the Arena, others may come here to gain experience points. However, unlike the Arena, if you do anything but capture unharmed (i.e. render unconscious, dominate etc) then powerful fey and elementals will capture you and keep you as a bargaining chip for the Beastmasters if you are useful, and kill you if not. |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-09-04, 10:12 PM | :dragon: So does anyone have any ideas for how the Beastmasters, those who specialize in all manners of beasts and tracking could be of use to the other Guilds? Ideas: #1. Locating missing persons #2. Being hired as bounty hunters #3. Put in charge of large mounts or looking after guild guardians --- Also, Turalis, you making up a hunter for the Preserve (or a beastie?) |
| thasis12-09-04, 10:21 PM | I have a little club called the Monster PC Club or something like that down in the monster forums. I'm going to relode it again so come check it out. |
| turalisj12-09-04, 10:42 PM | he's in the works, but would there be room in the desert region for a 80ft long shark? :D edit: oh, and sirianth is going hunting here to relieve stress. |
| The Vorpal Tribble12-12-04, 03:58 AM | 80 foot long shark :uh-huh: |
