| necrodude1608-10-05, 12:59 AM | A History of Tyrannor by Sir grimclaw and His Infernal Majesty necrodude16 The people gathered around the steps of the Great Library in anticipation... for the Lore Keeper appeared only once each year, at the harvest festival, to recite the history of the city, adding a new line each year. That time was now and from throughout the entire city the people came, rich and poor, noble and common, to listen to the tale. A hush fell over the crowd as the doors to the library opened and a small elderly human shuffled forward, leaning on a tall oaken staff. Old and bent, his hairless head shining in the sun, with his long white beard reaching his waist, he moved to the top of the steps and looked down at the crowd with clouded eyes. Feeling thier anticipation he smiled down at them as he waited for an acolyte to set a chair out for him. The crowd waited patiently as he settled himself onto the cushioned seat. Many children wormed thier way through the crowd to sit on the ground in front of the steps... even as thier parents had. The Lore Keeper let his staff rest against his shoulder and seemed to draw in upon himself; when he spoke his voice rolled across the plaza -- full of power and knowledge... "In the beginning, there was nothing but the Ultimate, and the Ultimate was all and the potential for all. Within the nothingness the Ultimate concieved of the IDEA of CREATION. With the THOUGHT came REALITY. But creation was empty and vast, the Ultimate saw infinite possibilities. From within the Ultimate drew forth others, lesser reflections of himself. Each went forth to find a piece of creation to fill with their own vision. From each sprang a version of reality, and gods to fill it; from others sprang the planes of existance, high and low; the elements sprang to life. Each worked alone with his or her vision, but each fufilled the thought of the Ultimate. Content, the Ultimate faded into the nothingness -- to watch his creation unfold... "He left a legacy, however. "In the center of all creation, where the Ultimate had stood a land like no other came into being. Surrounded by a veil of mist, it was connected to all places, all worlds, and yet was apart and seperate from them. In the center of this land a great beacon of energy and light blazed forth, a remnent of the power of creation. "Over time people of many races and worlds wandered through the veil and into the land. Drawn by the power of the energy eruption they called "the source." A simple village grew. This village was peaceful and content with the blessings of the Source. Thier crops were always plentiful, sickness was rare and the hand of time touched the people only with the gentlest of hands. Eventually a great mage came through the veil... Antridus. Wise in the ways of magic and stronger than all others in the Art, he was drawn to the Source as a moth to flame. In a simple cottage he lived as he studied the Source and strove to master its many mysteries. For centuries he studied it as the simple village became a prosperous town and then a mighty city. The people turned more and more to him to solve their disputes, for they trusted his wisdom. "In time another mage came through the veil, as well drawn by the power of the Source. Coradin he named himself, and begged Antridus to take him as student and apprentice. Antridus, lonely in his power and eager to share his knowledge with one who could understand its intricacies, agreed. Together the two mages delved ever deeper into the mysteries of the Source, and learned its secrets over the centuries. "These then are the secrets learned by Antridus and Coradin: "First, those who dwelt within the light emmited by the Source were untouched by the hand of time, while those who dwelt further away but within its sight aged gently and without extremes. "Second, any being who was placed within the stream of the source was healed of all injuries, diseases, curses, even death regardless of whether they could otherwise be ressurected or healed. "Third, any mage within the radius of the light of the Source no longer needed components for his spells, could cast his spells without thier loss from his mind or a lessoning of the number of spells he could cast. This power applied to all spellcasters -- arcane or divine. To those psionically gifted individuals, it provided limitless power, as well. "Fourth, any being who stood within the source, and for as long as he remained within reach of its light, gained the ability to cast spells as a sorcerer at the height of his power. Even those already of sorcerous blood were benefitted. "All these things were great abilities indeed, but one final thing was learned. Any being who created an item of magic within the radius of the light of the Source lost nothing of his personal energies, for the Source supplied not only the energy, but also the knowledge of the crafting -- so that a crafter could create any item he wished. "Antridus was wise with these discoveries and used them for the benifit of the city, which he named Tyranor (teer'ahhnor). Coradin, however, grew arrogant and demanding, and beganto view himself as a god, and all other beings as less than he. Concerned, Antridus confronted his companion and begged him to turn from the darkness that was consuming him. In answer, Coradin stuck his old teacher, and proclaimed himself god and ruler of Tyranor. However, he erred in his presumption... for Antridus was ancient in his power and wise in his knowledge. "Long they battled within the shed light of the Source -- great and terrible energies were unleashed. The ground trembled, the sky burned and the sea crashed upon the land. For hours, for days, they fought untill at last Antridus threw down his treacherous opponent and destroyed him uterrly. "He wept as he saw the destruction they had wrought upon the peaceful city, and with the knowledge that others would come seeking the power for dark purposes. Then did he proclaim himself King of Tyranor and directed the people as they rebuilt the city. A fortress he made it with mighty walls and great towers. Around the Source he had cause to build a citadel, whose walls defined and contained the power... and the two became one. The city prospered under Antridus' guidance, and became a mighty metropolis as many newcomers entered the city. With newcomers, though, came those whose hearts were dark with greed and the lust for power. "Antridus grew cautious and wary because he knew the darkness within them. After long and careful thought he proclaimed the formation of the Guilds. Only through the Guilds could the people of Tyranor gain power, or access to the throne. Carefully he played one guild against another, ensuring that they focused on one another and could never unite against him. "This state of affairs lasted for many centuries untill at last Antridus grew weary of life. Knowing his time to be limited he took a wife and sired a son. He waited patiently for his son to grow to adulthood, then crowned him king. Finally, with a great sigh of relief he walked to the center of the citadel, where the light of the Source still burned pure, and gave himself to the power.. his body dispersing, his soul free to seek the afterlife. "Velestin, Second King of Tyranor, reigned for five hundred years before he crowned his daughter Syllestra Queen and followed his father into oblivion. And so it was, as ruler after ruler sat upon the throne untill life no longer held joy, at which time they proclaimed an heir and followed Antridus into the afterlife. "Now the people are troubled; the king, Valestan, is weary; the light dies from his eyes... and yet he has no hier. By decree of Antridus himself should a king vacate the throne without an heir then the guilds must elect one to take the throne from amongst thier ranks. The people await a time of strife and intrigue as each guild seeks to place one of its members on the throne, and each member strives to be the one. Tyranor holds its breath, waiting for the chaos to come. The guilds wait for the chance to take what they believe is theirs, by right. Will it be settled by the whispered word, the swinging sword, or daggers in the dark? Not even destiny can say." Suddenly, in a flash of black and blue raw magic, there stood a figure, writhing in shadows and looking out regally over the crowds, he steps forward and says, " I am Kayne Shadowborne. I have been sent as a disciple of the ultimate to bring forth a warning to the world of tyrannor. If a leader is not found in one year from now, Tyrannor will be thrown into a state of Chaos. As a direct order from the ultimate, I am to declare a Guild War as of this day. The winning guild will select one member to ascend as heir to the throne of Tyrannor." The many gasps and murmurs spreading through out the crowd are silenced with a flick of Kayne's wrist. He then speaks oncemore. " Any guild not wishing to participate, and therefore forfiet their claim to the throne shall place a blue flag above the main doors of their Guild Halls. Any guild that attacks a blue flagged guild will automatically forfiet their claim to the throne" "In one year, I shall return to crown a new king of Tyrannor. Good Luck." With that he is gone, replaced by a giant hourglass, standing as tall as the cathedral behind it, it drops small grains of sand every minute. The murmers then return to the crowd. Above the chatter you can here one sentance repeated more than any other, "The Guild Wars have begun." Please Post only information relevent to this thread. Everything else should go in the meta thread. |
| jagggar08-19-05, 10:59 PM | A short time had since passed since Lord Shadowborne had announced the beginning of the Guild War. The people of Tyranor had felt blessed that the Lords of Tyranor had decided to keep them from harm. However, such a state peace was not what the Lords of Tyranor had announced, only what they had not announced. "I, jagggar, Lord of Tyranor, hereby call forth all Guilds which wish to make a bid for the throne." As she stood upon the hourglass the grains were suspended in time. "For in a short time the lands of Tyranor shall be divided among the Guilds. Each Guild may use these territories as they see fit. To some this means profit, spiritual following, power, both magical and mundane." "Declare yourself Guilds so that you shall be entered into the lottery for the lands and the lives of these poor folk." This thread may be used to make announcements to the whole of Tyranor. However, please try to keep it non-spammy. (This means no playing of games such as "my wood".) |
| Orcy The Green Wonder08-19-05, 11:09 PM | Arcanus and a small group of Knights Von Drache approach and stand before Jaggar. Arcanus bows low before rising again and looking Jagggar in the eyes. "I, Arcanus of the Knights Von Drache hereby announce that we shall do battle against the forces of evil here in Tyrannor. We shall never let them take the throne to do with as they please. We are here for the people, and here to free them from any tyranny that arises. Are these lands under request or shall they be given by you to those you see fit?" If we can go by request, personally Orcy would like to be in the sunrise mountains or wooded slopes (what with the whole keep that rests in the mountains and all). |
| jagggar08-19-05, 11:24 PM | Good thing to mention: You don't have to know what district your guild wants in order to announce the guild. That detail can be worked out later if necessary. Unless any of the other GMs have a problem with it, I'll be handing them out based on a combination of guild background/setting and request. "First-come, first-serve" and chance both work to some degree but I'm not exactly where those lines are drawn. For example, if two guilds request the same district and one describes the territory it's in as being of that district while the other has no description, the one with the description will likely get the district. |
| Arshes08-19-05, 11:30 PM | Lane and the highest ranking royal guard members approched Jagggar. They bowed low before rising again. the Royal Guard shall do all within it's power to defeat the forces of evil. It shall aid the knights efforts in any way possible. hmm, perhaps i could have a training ground for my men within each of the diffrent area's. if not, then I'd like to make a bid for the horehound jungle. then the W.A.S.P unit will have a training area in the Barren Dunes. |
| Xen15508-20-05, 01:28 AM | The elf Xen appears suddenly without so much as a flash or a bang. He shakes off the teleportation daze quickly and announces, The Council of Arch-Mages will stand strong in this time of war, will shall remain here and continue to further the cause of magic and balance in this realm! |
| Dyne08-20-05, 02:45 AM | Lord William Bristol, The Stormhand, strides forward, his violet cloak billowing behind him. However, instead of his usual armor he dons regal and expensive clothing of blue and violet, with a white surcoat and the blue coat of arms of the Bristol legacy. "I represent the Kingdom of Bristol and the Stormhand Federation. In the interests of the Kingdom, I hereby claim the Town of Bristol and the surrounding territory of the Mendal Plains to be under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Bristol. Additionally, the Stormhand Federation claims ownership of the Storm Peaks. "I would also like to announce our intention to acquire the Throne of Tyranor, and we believe it to be in the interests of all the inhabitants of the land. In due time, the entire face of this land shall be united as one great people, under one great banner, and working for the mutual benefit and peace of one another." |
| Xen15508-22-05, 11:28 PM | The Council of Arch-Mages requests the Misty Island. And, if a guild can have more than one starting district, also requests the Wooded Slopes. |
| Ever08-23-05, 02:21 PM | yeah um how dose this damn message stuff work would it not be better to have a chat room how are you all goin to have a guild war on a message bored |
| jagggar08-23-05, 03:18 PM | We plan to have it just as we have been having it. Well, except that now there are a few more rules about territory. Chat rooms require the presence of all participants at once. Something we don't have. They also move much too fast and are not archived. A messanger comes forward. "The Merchant's Guild officially requests to participate in the Guild Wars." I'll edit that when I have more time on the computer so it's nice and pretty and long. |
| Aramar the Black08-23-05, 03:21 PM | yeah um how dose this damn message stuff work would it not be better to have a chat room how are you all goin to have a guild war on a message bored Few things: 1: Welcome 2: Please be nice; we don't want to hurt you. Please 3: Probably not. Not after all this work 4: Visit places like the Mountaintop Arena and find out. 5: Please look around in Read-before-posting threads, FAQ thread, and places like that. |

I think we've figured out how to make it work pretty well. Now, I assume you play D&D? Or something similar? Now, you can go around and look at the different guilds, looking at what they focus on on, whether it be Evil, Magic, or Order and World Conquest. (Within Fantasy, of course) If there are any that interest you, please feel free to join the discussions. Most members have links to thier guilds in thier signitures, and I believe the Welcome to the Guild House Thread has a list of Open Guilds. :) |

| Dyne08-26-05, 07:30 PM | Stormhand once again steps onto the platform, a look of absolute anger on his face drawing the crowd's attention to him. "I hereby declare that the entirety of Tyranor to be under the dominion of the Bristol Empire and the Stormhand Federation. The only exception to this are lands possessed by those who have allied with us. All others will accept us as their rulers, or they shall die." Stormhand then vanishes, leaving the crowd to murmur over his words. |
| Dyne08-26-05, 09:20 PM | A man in fine robes, bearing the royal crest of Bristol, takes to the platform. He unrolls a piece of parchment and addresses the masses. "War has been declared between the Stormhand Federation and the Royal Guards of Tyranor. The common people are cautioned to be careful in these treacherous times. Bristol is organizing a Service Corps to ensure that no man shall want for food. Additionally, our soldiers shall strive to protect the common people, even in the midst of battle, and to keep order in the lands in which they are stationed. The Kingdom of Bristol declares that crimes against humanity shall not be tolerated, regardless of whether they are inhabitants of an enemy land." |
| jagggar09-14-05, 12:10 PM | "The lands shall be divided shortly. I shall return once it has been done." Let's just say that was before the whole war declaration and such. |
| jagggar09-14-05, 01:45 PM | "Each guild is to be given control of a total of two assets in up to two districts. These assets come at no cost to the guilds. Any further assets must be built by the guilds from their own resources. "Each guild is to decide upon their chosen assets in their reserved districts. You must return with your answer within one week. "The districts are reserved as follows: Tyranor's Royal Guard may create assets in the Horehound Jungle and in the Baren Dunes. The Stormhand Federation may create assets within the town of Bristol and the Storm Peaks. The Knights Von Drache may create assets in the Sunrise Mountians. The Council of Arch-Mages may create assets on the Misty Island. The Knights Von Drache and the Council of Arch-Mages are to first attempt peaceful negotiations reguarding the the Wooded Slopes. Either party may cede the territory in favor of choosing another unchosen district. Both guilds may build an asset upon the Wooded Slopes so long as they are of different types. Should no agreement be reached the decision shall fall to Orcy's Arena. The Merchant's Guild may create assets within the Tyranorian Marketplace. After the matter of the Wooded Slopes is decided the Merchant's guild may choose an additional district in which to build an asset should they so desire." Okay, now in English: Except for the matter of the Wooded Slopes, everyone got what they wanted. I'm pretty sure you guys can work it out. You get a free asset in each of your chosen districts, unless you'd like to place two different assets in one district. For reminders and those who don't quite understand it: The five assets are: Hard Power Source: Pretty much government. Collects taxes (gp) and can take resources collected by others in same district. Magical Foci: Collects magic power which can be turned into any resource. Marketplace: Earns money (gp) and may be used to sell resources at a higher profit. Resource Collection Facility: Collects resources of course. (Resources are things like wood and stone if you haven't figured that out yet.) Temple: Place of worship. Collects thithes (gp) and can rally the people to halt production of resources. |
| jagggar09-27-05, 06:41 PM | Have any of the guilds made any attempts at deciding on said stuff? |
| Wilds09-27-05, 07:46 PM | A robed figure walks into the halls. "The Shadow's Breath and Blade announces its entry to the guild wars." With that he walks out |
| Wilds09-27-05, 08:03 PM | "If the Swamps are still open, the SBB would like to claim them as our own" |
| Abicus Acton10-02-05, 08:31 PM | A figure on a broomstick flies overhead. He points his staff, and sparks fly out, forming words: Come One, Come All! To the 1st Annual Quidditch World Cup To Take Place on the 5th of October At Conscientia, the Academy of Magic Bring Your Broomsticks! The figure then flies off into the distance. |
| Demonfey11-14-05, 01:57 PM | The Guild of Ultimate Evil shall stand strong in this war, and we wish to possess the Deeping Quarry. |
| Dyne11-14-05, 08:48 PM | A figure in a hooded black robe with a black skull mask covering his face appears on the platform. "The Stormhand Federation shall stand strong through any conflicts. In the interests of the people, Bristol Kingdom has made great strides in fighting corruption within its government, and it is pleased to announce it is recovering fully from the loss of several important leaders. The traitor responsible for Lord Stormhand's downfall and eventual death is in custody, and his punishment shall be served before the great people of Tyranor." He then vanishes just as instantly as he appeared. |
| Orcy The Green Wonder11-28-05, 10:07 PM | A snakelike man with thick green scales and a head topped with red fins slithers before Jagggar. Coiling up he rests before her, looking her over it claps it's hands together and bows infront of her. "ThollJut Kutotaz lays claim to de Seal Rocks area, because dat be where we rise from de sea floor. We lay claim to all of de sea, but dat be where we be located so you be knowin if ya lookin. Da sea be our home, and we be protectin it, no matter what dat means we need ta be doin." |
