| ChaosEvoker12-17-04, 11:57 PM | This is a guild made to cente around using, applying, and creating things with divine magic. Be ye a cleric of Cyric or Helm or Lathandar, all are welcome here. RP is fully allowed if you wish though make sure to keep with the discussion of divine magic and not to go exclusively RPing. Phillip knew that founding this Guild would serve his purpose. He was a cleric of Mystra after all, his purpose was to spread magic and indeed this Guild woudl do just that. here all clerics coudl come and learn and expand their knowledge. Not only of their own dogma, but the beliefs of otehrs as well. Mystra woudl be pleased, he hoped he and all other divine magic users woudl be as well. The sign on the front of the foundation reads: Come one and all divine magic users! The Divine Magics Guild Welcomes You! Member's List: 1) ChaosEvoker, Cleric of Mystra (Founder) 2) Dyne, Paladin of Tyr 3) jagggar 4) Aramar the Black, Cleric of Boccob I haven't found any threads that address this subject, so here's one! So join up if you have any interest in divine magic! |
| Demonfey12-17-04, 11:59 PM | This is a guild made to cente around using, applying, and creating things with divine magic. Be ye a cleric of Cyric or Helm or Lathandar, all are welcome here. This is definately an RP thread and we will be participating in the IFWG. I haven't found any boards that address this subject, so here's one! So join up if you have any interest in divine magic! Ah, the foundation that all the smart people are friends of... |
| ChaosEvoker12-18-04, 12:01 AM | Indeed, I mean can you imagine what cool stuff we could do with the IFWG, plus Divine Magic is just cool. Now if only we had more members than....well....me. |
| Dyne12-18-04, 12:20 AM | Well, Bren is a Divine Magic user, so I guess he can be part of this foundation. That, and I'm not very experienced in Divine Magic (even though my first character was a Cleric  ) Count me in. |
| jagggar12-18-04, 12:29 AM | My next upcoming character's gunna be my first cleric, so if you can help me learn to cast effectively as a cleric, I'm in. |
| Dyne12-18-04, 12:41 AM | My next upcoming character's gunna be my first cleric, so if you can help me learn to cast effectively as a cleric, I'm in. I usually just prepare spells the enhance the other PC's, and stay ready to spontaneously cast cure spells. Unless your an Evil Cleric, in which case I prepare enhancing spells for allies, debilitating spells for enemies, and spontaneously cast inflict spells. Oh, and all my Evil Clerics have a force of undead. Remember: Good Clerics never have to prepare a cure spell, and Evil Clerics never have to prepare an inflict spell, thanks to spontaneous casting. |
| jagggar12-18-04, 11:10 AM | Hehehehe. . . Actually going to be a Cloistered Cleric (yay stupid RP reasons). Gotta go get my UA, Draconomicon, and maybe some issues of Dragon before making him. |
| Dyne12-18-04, 02:26 PM | What's a Cloistered Cleric? |
| ChaosEvoker12-20-04, 11:24 AM | Ok added you guys to the members list, btw to add spice here, declare who you are a cleric/druid/paladin/whatever of. Kind of like the Counsil of Archmages works. You'll get to be the only one with that title. So everyone pick their favorite deity to be a cleric of and post it up! I will be the Cleric of Mystra. (There can be a Druid and Cleric and Ranger of a Nature deity, Paladin and Cleric of Good and Lawful Deities, you get the idea) |
| Dyne12-20-04, 06:00 PM | Well, my character was originally a Paladin of Helm. But, hearing some of what Helm has done in the past, I don't like him so much. Hmmm.... |
| Aramar the Black12-20-04, 06:34 PM | Ah, divine magic. A most intesting feild of study. Mind if I join? Aside from my arcane studies, I work a little divine magic, and spend a great of deal of time in the company of a ranger and druid. I could could be cleric of Boccob, or Magic and Knowledge, whatever fits best around here. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 12:55 AM | Does anyone know what the FR Greater Deity version of Heironeous is? I think it's Tyr, or Torm, or something like that. Man, I need to get my FRCS back.... |
| jagggar12-21-04, 02:24 PM | *pulls out Draconomicon* Whoops, wrong book, that's where my character's god's from. *switches for FRCS* You're right, either Tyr or Torm. --edit- Tyr's greater, Torm's lesser- Cloistered Cleric has d6 hitdice, poor BAB, simple weapon and light armor prof. only, but gains the knowledge domain for free as a third domain (even if deity doesn't normally have it) the Bardic knowledge ability, 6 skill points per level, and some spells added to the spell list. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 03:42 PM | *pulls out Draconomicon* Whoops, wrong book, that's where my character's god's from. Huh. So, basically a Cleric who's less of a warrior and even more of a Cleric. I will be the Paladin of Tyr. Wait, what is his portfolio again? And his domains? |
| jagggar12-21-04, 03:49 PM | Guess so. Though I'd say "scholar cleric" as opposed to just more of a cleric. Wow, that's an easy portfolio to have: "Justice" The obvious Good and Law with Knowledge, Retibution, and War. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 04:11 PM | What about Favored Weapon? I prefer the Bastard Sword. |
| jagggar12-21-04, 04:42 PM | Sorry, longsword. And if you switched to Torm it'd be a greatsword. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 04:45 PM | Sorry, longsword. And if you switched to Torm it'd be a greatsword. What deities are there with the Favored Weapon of Bastard Sword? |
| jagggar12-21-04, 04:53 PM | Helm and Kelemvor, both LN. No LGs or NGs with bastard sword as favored weapon. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 04:59 PM | Helm and Kelemvor, both LN. No LGs or NGs with bastard sword as favored weapon. Who's Kelemvor? |
| jagggar12-21-04, 05:11 PM | God of death and the dead. Death, Fate, Law, Protection, Travel are domains. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 05:18 PM | God of death and the dead. Death, Fate, Law, Protection, Travel are domains. Whoops. Definitely not him. You would think that his favored weapon would be the scythe though.... Paladin of Tyr it is, then. But, I use a Bastard Sword anyway. By-the-way, I created my own custom sword, using the Item Creation rules. Would you guys want me to post it? I also created a custom Shield, Tunic, Bracers, Gloves, Belt, Amulet, Boots, Cloak, and Headband. Each one only works for me, and I can afford all of them for just under 200,000 gp (that is, with the Merchants Guild discount). |
| jagggar12-21-04, 05:29 PM | Probably the reason it isn't. Hehehehe. . . Have a god of death who walks around in a pink bunny suit whose favored weapon is a feather duster. . . heheheheh . . . Tha'd be a classic if you did that for a BBEG. "Whew, we finally defeated him. Let's see what his cool toys can do!" |
| ChaosEvoker12-21-04, 05:35 PM | Wow, this is getting a little creepy...... So, has anyone ever some up with some interesting divine epic spells or items or anything that run of divine, rather than arcane, magic? I think Divine magic is often underestinmated in both its offensive and defensive capabilities, and I'd like to see what creations and ideas you guys have in relation to divine magic. ALSO recruit recruit recruit!! :D |
| Aramar the Black12-21-04, 05:55 PM | Well, among ther many ideas that float around in my head, that never seem to fully materilize, no matter how much I say they will, are ideas for truly divine spells, ones that an athesistic (I think) arcane caster could never understand, nor cast or prevent. And one of a group of "Spell-Songs" that I am currently writing down is "Song of Faith", which though meant for bards, could be sung by devoutly religious types, and provides all kind of special, divine benefits. Very little of the stuff is epic, however. And who else is (fearunian, I guess) a diety of knowledge and/or winter and/or magic? Preferably non-evil, non-chaotic. |
| ChaosEvoker12-21-04, 05:57 PM | I don't believe there is one that is non evil Shar and another guy who is related to death are magic deities too. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 06:05 PM | Wow, this is getting a little creepy...... :D All of my items work on Divine Magic. But, they only work for Lawful Good Paladins, and you have to have enough ranks in a certain skill for each one. I'm still working out how to do the skills, so any input would be appreciated. Sword: My sword, by far, is the most in-depth. It is an intelligent item with a special purpose and many unique points. The sword is a +5 Axiomatic Holy Cold Iron Bastard Sword. It has Intelligence 10, Wisdom 19, and Charisma 19. It can communicate through speech and telepathy, and it can sense through 120 ft. darkvision, blindsense, and hearing (with the ability to read languages and read magic). It is of Lawful Good alignment, with Ego 32, and it has the special purpose of defeating Evil and Chaos. It has the following minor powers: Item can bless its allies 3/day Item can activate zone of truth 3/day Item can use cure moderate wounds (2d8+3) on wielder 3/day Item has 10 ranks in Knowledge (Religion) It also has the following major powers: Item can create magic circle against evil and chaos at will Item can create daylight 3/day The sword has the following dedicated power: Wielder gets +2 luck bonus on attacks, saves, and checks when fulfilling the purpose of defeating Evil and/or Chaos. The sword requires 10 ranks in a skill to function (haven't really decided which skill yet) The sword requires that the wielder be Lawful Good to function The sword requires that the wielder be a Paladin to function If the wielder does not meet any of the above 3 requirements, the weapon only functions as a mundane Cold Iron Bastard Sword. When the sword accepts a new owner, that owner's hair grows 1 inch longer, turns white, and they bear an identifying mark (maybe a tattoo, or possibly a glow). The sword also requires that it have bless cast on it everyday, as well as be cleansed with holy water on a daily basis. Lastly, the wielder must undertake a quest before the sword will function for him. Until then, it is just a +5 Bastard Sword. The sword also only functions for a person of a specific name (still working on that), so the wielder must change his name for it to work for him. All this for the grand total Market Price of 99,070 gp. An item that would really only work for you, and that gives you awesome bonuses, for a rather cheap price. |
| ChaosEvoker12-21-04, 06:12 PM | Fascinating item...you don't see many good-aligned intellegent items. I like it. |
| Dyne12-21-04, 06:25 PM | That's the only intelligent item that I really have. But, all my other ones also only work for Lawful Good Paladins, and they require ranks in a certain skill (haven't totally decided yet). Knight's Shield (14,870 gp): +5 Blinding Bashing Heavy Steel Shield Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Tunic (40,800 gp): Spell Resistance 16 Damage Reduction 5/Evil Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Bracers (18,900 gp): +6 Strength +3 Natural Armor Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Gloves (19,800 gp): +6 Dexterity Same ability of Glove of Storing (on both gloves) Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Belt (18,900 gp): +6 Armor bonus +3 Deflection bonus Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Amulet (18,000 gp): +6 Constitution +4 on all Saves (as a Cloak of Resistance) Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Boots (3,900 gp): +10 ft. movement speed +5 Climb, Jump, and Swim Requires ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Cloak (15,840 gp): +6 Charisma Charm Person 1/day (Will DC 16) Require ranks in a certain skill (???) Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class Knight's Headband (16,200 gp): +6 Wisdom +4 LV for Turn Undead Same ability as Phylactery of Faithfulness Requires ranks in a certain skill Requires Lawful Good alignment Requires Paladin class And that's all of them. I was thinking on requiring 5 ranks in a skill for each magic item. The requirements so far are: Sword: 10 ranks in Knowledge (religion) (stacks with Headband) Shield: 5 ranks in Knowledge (nobility and royalty) Tunic: 5 ranks in Spellcraft Bracers: 5 ranks in Climb Gloves: 5 ranks in Sleight of Hand Belt: 5 ranks in Concentration Amulet: 5 ranks in Heal Boots: 5 ranks in either Climb, Jump, or Swim (if Climb, stacks with Bracers) Cloak: 5 ranks in Diplomacy Headband: 5 ranks in Knowledge (religion) EDIT: Actually, I think I figured out the skill rank requirements. |
| Aramar the Black12-21-04, 07:21 PM | Wow, Dyne, fasinating items, truely. :) Spell-Songs: these are powerful, magical tunes and ballads that create wondrus effects. Normally Bards are the only persons who sing these to a great extent, skill, or power, but the following, Song ofd Faith, is sung by clerical members as well. term definitions: Afterduration: the amount of time for which the effects of the song last after the musician has stopped making music. Level: The level a character must be to weave the song Perform DC: The Dc that must be met to successfully create the effects of the Song. Alright, here's a rough version of the Spell-Song "Song of Faith" Song of Faith Casting Time: 5 rounds-1 hour Range: 50 ft. per Tier level Targets: All creatures within range Afterduration: 5d10 minutes + 2 minutes per Tier level Saving Throw: Will negates A song to grant power to divine casters, and possible bring divne effects upon others. Tier One: By making music for at least 6 rounds, the musician can cuase all divine casters within range to gain a +2 bonus on Concentration checks. Level One; Perform DC 12 Tier Two: By making music for at least 2 minutes, the musician may increase the effective caster level of a divine caster by +1, or grant a +3 bonus on Concentration checks. Level 3; Perform DC 16 Tier Three: By making music for at least 10 minutes, the musician may choose to cause one of the fllowing effects upon all divine casters within range: +4 bonus on Concentration checks +2 bonus to effective caster level +2 bonus to Will and Fortitude saves +2 bonus to attack rolls Atonement as the spell Level 6; Perform DC 23 Tier Four: By making music for at least 30 minutes, the musician may to choose to effect all divine spellcasters within range in one of the following ways: +5 bonus on Concentration Checks +3 bonus to effective caster level +2 bonus to attack rolls and armor class Or, and this effects non-divine characters as well, the musician may create music which invokes feeling related to the portfolio of the diety or religion sung about. For example, if a bard were to sing of Erythul might start feeling wild and agessive, while of song about Nerull might invoke feelings of fear or cruelty, while a song about Obad-Hai might bring fellings of wildness or naturistic peace. Level 10; Perform DC 28 Tier Five: By making music for at least 1 hour, the musician may choose to cause any of the following effects on divine casters: +6 bonus on Concentration checks +4 bonus on effective caster level +3 bonus to Will and Fortitude saves Also, and this effects non-divine characters as well, this Tier of the Song is so powerful that those who fail saving throws may even begin to move toward the alignment or outlook of the religion or diety sung of. The more one fails the saving throw by, the more that move toward that dogma. Level 15; Perform DC 35 Now, there exist mechanical issues that must be fixed, and I'll go over the PHB when I have the chance. But what do you guys think of the Song itself, and general approach to Spell-Songs? |
| ChaosEvoker12-21-04, 09:32 PM | Nice job guys, keep it up, this stuff is cool! |
| Demonfey12-23-04, 01:39 AM | {You hear strange noises. Suddenly, water rises from the ground, and a small tornado coalesces, and they both form into women. The one rising from the water forms into what appears to be a half elf, half celestial form, while the other becomes an elven woman. The half celestial looks at the group.} We would like to join your ranks. I am known mainly as "Doc", and she is known as Listre. NPCs: LG half celestial/elf Water elemental savant/shugenja; CN Elf Air elemental savant/druid They know Crowley, and have the same mother (divorce and death.) |
| Dyne12-23-04, 01:44 AM | You know what I think we need (if it hasn't already been created somewhere)? A Divine Bard. Instead of specializing in illusions, he would be good at healing and inspiring. |
| ChaosEvoker12-23-04, 11:19 AM | Divine Bard...interesting concept..... |
| Dyne12-23-04, 05:32 PM | The concept was mentioned in the DMG. I can't remember what they called it, though.... |
| Demonfey12-23-04, 05:35 PM | The concept was mentioned in the DMG. I can't remember what they called it, though.... Alternate bard, probably. You could probably get away with it, using a copy of Unearthed Arcana. |
| Dyne12-24-04, 08:25 PM | I've never seen Unearthed Arcana, so I know it's not it. It was in the DMG, under creating and altering classes. I can't remember what they called it. Diviner? No, that's a Wizard with the Divination Specialty School.... |
| Aramar the Black12-26-04, 04:22 PM | I've never seen Unearthed Arcana, so I know it's not it. It was in the DMG, under creating and altering classes. I can't remember what they called it. Diviner? No, that's a Wizard with the Divination Specialty School.... Ayh, the briefly mentioned cantor. That is what a divine bard is called. Apparently, it functions the same as a Bard, but takes all his spells from the cleric spell list. But the idea of a cantor as a more evolved variant class or PrC sounds like a very good idea. Full of interesting possibilities. |
| Dyne12-26-04, 06:02 PM | That's it: a Cantor. I think we should work out a Cantor more in-depth as a character class. Maybe even give them the ability to Turn Undead? |
| Aramar the Black12-26-04, 11:51 PM | Roskar looked over the battle and shuddered again. The undead army of skeletons and zombies was marching ever closer, outnumbering the castle guard by incredible amounts. As he was unstrapping the warhammer from his back, a tall figure came to stand beside him. The half-elf carried no weapon save a mandolin, but everyone knew that in a Bard's, or Cantor's, hands, this was a weapon enough. "My my my" said the cantor, looking over the infested plains, "what an ugly army. And all mindless, too. What a shame. I fear I must get rid of them. The mindless can only be dead already, and I must say, the noise those undead are making is an affront to the spoken word." As Roskar stared at the newcomer with increduality, the cantor strummed a few notes on the mandolin, and closed his eyes, as if remembering something. Then he suddenly burst forth in song, fingers dancing gaily over the strings, and a stong tenor voice riding over cresendos and slurs. The song was uplifting, but in more than the usual way. Roskar not only felt younger, but more vigorous, and it was as though his god was smiling upon him, and all was peaceful. But as he looked around in his bliss, he was stuck by a most wondrous sight: The cantor was enveloped in faint winds of magic, power flowing from his song. And as these winds wafted down to the fields below, the first rows of undead started to wail and turn around, as though the powerful song was pain in thier ears. And then the cantor reached the chilling apex of his song, in a mighty cresendo of ringing sound that would make even the most hardened of warriors drop thier weapons and look to the heavens. And the bard stopped his wild strumming, and lifted his instrument up like a blade after a victory. And light of the heavens burst forth from the mandolin and blasted the ranks of undead, sending all to the endless sleep or fleeing back to thier masters. And that would have been all that day, but for an evil cantor who sat on the other side of the field, beside the mighty necromancer, conjurer of this undead army. Smirking in a mix of smugness and anger, the dark cantor closed his eyes and muttered to the necromancer "Conjure a spell shield, Balcaan. And I shall show you the true might of the shadows of death." With that, he placed a small, ebony amulet in front of him, and drew out a small pair of drums. Beating softly, he began to chant a dirge, one that, on a grander scale, might have sent weak men cowering under thier covers. As he continued, in his own chilling harmony, the amulet lifted off the ground of its own accord the shone with a black light. The undead near them were covered with a dark mist, and, red eyes glowing with a new light, started off again for the castle. Balcaan shuddered as the ground quaked and the dark winds of music drifted from the drums of the cantor and toward the light of the holy singer, fields away. It was as though a shadow filled the sky, seeking to strangle the light of the heavens. The shadow cantor broke his dirge for a moment, to mutter again. "Conjure a spell-shield, you dolt. You are about to witness a battle between the forces of two cantors, the agents of the Divine Song. There is no greater power. Unless you wish to join the undead siege, I suggest you summon that shield, and quick." And he began the dirge once more. Arrogant, but no incredible fool, Balcaan did as he was told. |
| Dyne12-28-04, 01:37 AM | The door of the foundation slams open, and a man walked through. Nay, he is no man, for you can see wings on his back and his countenance shines with the light of heaven. The being wears nothing but white. A white tunic matching his white feathery wings, white gloves adorning his hands, white bracers with intricate carvings protecting his arms, and white boots on his feet. And there is a golden headband across his forehead, of gold that shines like no other metal you have ever seen. And there are carvings on the headband. And though you can not decipher the carvings, you sense there is truth in them, and that their message is of utmost importance. This beings strides toward you, and you see seriousness in his eyes. Meet the new Dyne. Instead of an Elven Wizard/Fighter, he is a Half-Celestial Human Cleric. Thought I'd make him different for a change. |
| Aramar the Black10-17-05, 06:56 PM | Alright, this place has been dead for a great amount of time, but I was wondering if there were still some people out there who would be interested in this guild, and would like to it alive. |
| Aramar the Black11-08-05, 09:31 PM | Anybody at all? |
| Demonfey11-08-05, 10:43 PM | *Crickets chirping* |
| Aramar the Black12-12-05, 07:10 PM | One last time, just for luck...... Then I'll let it die. |
| thasis12-13-05, 03:25 PM | This guild could proove to be intressting. I have a new Blaphsemy Domain (yes, I know Blaphesmy and God-Given powers don't seem to work but I have a god to go along with it that makes it sound better) and a new god. |
| I wish I was12-14-05, 11:10 PM | Hello all. I've been gone from the house for quite a while, and figured what better way to return but to join a dwindling guild. So here I am. I find devine magic quite interesting. I've played a fair share of clerics and druids, and find that I am still not very good at it. All the same, the concept is quite interesting to me. Being agnostic myself, I find the idea of someone who has so much faith that they are able to perform amazing magical feats through it. Fun fun fun. I have never created any unique devine spells or equipment myself, but maybe i'll work on some ideas. Or not, we'll see how this guild does. Perhaps I should stop by my former guild... but i digress. I guess that's all i have to say for now. bye |
