Welcome to The Dwarf Foundation

Aye, thats right Lads and Lassies, I'm taking responsibility for the new Dwarf Foundation. Too long have our halls been silent, our forges lay cold, and our alehouses gone empty. The Stoutfolk shall make a glorious return and let all ye who would claim Dwarven blood congregate here. Be you Mountain, Hill or Gully, Shield or Gold, Derro or Deep. If you claim the blood of the Mountain-folk, you may call me Brother!

My hope for this Foundation is to discuss the development and usage of Dwarves in Dungeons and Dragons. If you've got Prestige Classes, Core Classes, spells, equipment, feats or skills that pertain to us, place them here and I shall organize a compedium of our accomplishments. If you want to discuss published material pertaining to us, do it here.

Please, though I know we Dwarves can be a rowdy bunch (especially where ale is concerned), abide by the Code of Conduct (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=community/coc). I must insist that you follow the rules that the Greater Powers That Be (read WizOs and GMs) place before us. Lead by example, my Dwarven Brethren.

Also, for those of you whose beards are not as long as others', you can find out what the Longbeards are talking about through the use of Trollbill's Dictionary. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=109235) Do not begrudge him for his Giant heritage, for he knows great things and can mold you younger Dwarves into reputable Longbears.

The Clan List

Here be the (hopefully) long list of noble Dwarves to enter the foundation. Foundation numbers are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. I will take a list of all the applicants and add them in the order they applied. I show no favoritism here and the number you are awarded is absolutely arbitrary. If you want to put it in your signature, go ahead, but all Dwarves are on a level field here.

If you want a title next to your name, ask and you shall receive. Just please please do not try to one up my title, for then I will feel like a jerk when I have to deny it and ask you to choose a new one. Remember, I am the High Thane here and my word is law. Take notice, though, that I shall award titles as I see fit for active participants and donators. You cannot gain recognition in my eyes by submitting the work of others, though I do think that having all Dwarf related material in one place is a good idea. If you think the owner of material posted on this site wouldn't mind, go ahead and post it here, but cite your sources.

Also, I though that I should provide a link to the old Dwarven Foundation. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45096) I welcome our brothers upon their return to the holds.

The Great Grimoire

This tome will house the workings of we Dwarf laborers. Submit your prestige classes, core classes, feats, spells, skills, and other crunch in the thread and it shall be chronicled here so that the Dwarves of the future may remember you great smiths.

Rules for submitting material:
Provide me only with the thread number, do not post entire urls because that just makes things messy.
Tell me what it is you are submitting so that I may chronicle it accordingly (i.e. PrC, Core class, Magic items, mundane equipment, spells, feats, or skills).
Please be patient and give me my time to organize everything, it takes time.
If it isn't your creation, note that so I can give proper dues.
Don't post the whole entry here, if its a PrC or a Class, give me the thread number. If it is something that we are discussing and have created in the Foundation, then I will link to the final post directly.

Count me in. I have a bit of interest in dwarves, and they seem to be quite underplayed in D&D (Stupid elves......taking all the dwarven Glory...). I will work on some magic items that can be added to the Great Grimoire. Until then, I wish to point out already published items (Thanks to wizards.com):

Hammer of Flatlander's Doom (Minor Artifact): A somewhat unbalanced dwarf priest named Mardiak crafted these +4 adamantine warhammers. Mardiak had strange fears that those who dwelt in the lowlands surrounding his precious mountains had plans to raze the mountains down and transform them into plains and rolling hills. He forged no less than two dozen hammers of flatlander's doom before being carried off by a roc. The story goes that Mardiak killed the roc, but himself died when the bird plummeted into the heart of a large region of grasslands. Some say that Mardiak's insane ghost haunts the crater this fall created.

A hammer of flatlander's doom deals +2d6 points of damage when used against creatures native to nonmountainous regions. Additionally, against such targets, the hammer's threat range for critical hits becomes 19-20. A nonmountain-dwelling creature who is critically hit by a hammer of flatlander's doom must make a successful DC 18 Fortitude saving throw or be stunned for 1d4 rounds. The Dungeon Master is free to decide what creatures are not mountain dwellers. At a minimum, a creature whose environment entry does not include mountains is not a mountain dweller.

If used against a creature that dwells in mountainous regions, though, the hammer loses all of its magic properties for 24 hours, right after it bestows a curse on the wielder. The wielder can resist this curse with a successful DC 20 Will save; otherwise he loses all of his weapon proficiencies (including those gained from feats) until the curse is lifted.

Strong transmutation; CL 20th; Weight 5 lb.

Yrthak Hunter's Cloak: A dwarven wizard originally invented this pale green cloak to outfit a specialized strike force of warriors formed to clean out a particularly strong infestation of yrthaks in a secluded mountain range. While designed to aid specifically against an attack by an yrthak, the cloak has proven to be quite helpful when fighting any creature that uses sonic attacks or is particularly vulnerable to sonic damage.

A yrthak hunter's cloak grants the wearer a +4 resistance bonus on all saving throws against sonic attacks, as well as sonic resistance 20. More impressive, the cloak can absorb one sonic attack that specifically targets the wearer; the cloak cannot so absorb sonic attacks that affect areas or multiple targets. Absorbing a sonic attack requires no action on the part of the user if the cloak is worn at the time, and the cloak wearer can use this power even during another creature's turn. The next time the wearer takes damage from a physical melee attack, the stored sonic energy explodes outward, dealing an amount of sonic damage to the creature that made the melee attack equal to the amount of damage the original source would have dealt. If no melee attack successfully strikes the wearer within 1 minute of the sonic attack's absorption, the energy dissipates harmlessly. A yrthak hunter's cloak can absorb a sonic attack only once per day.

Strong abjuration; CL 12th; Craft Wondrous Item, protection from energy, resistance, shout; Price 40,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Ah, good. The first of many hopefully to join the great foundation. And a spectacular donation you bring too. Can you PM me the thread number from your post so I can link to it in the Grimoire?

(Stupid elves......taking all the dwarven Glory...).

Aye, those silly elves and their capers. Its only a matter of time though before we can show them...

Right now, I'm trying to develop some variants on the core classes to make them specifically for we dwarves. The ones that I think there is real promis in are:
Bard
Cleric
Druid
Paladin
Ranger
Wizard

The other classes could be made, but I think these will be a good lot for some customization. So, we'll start with my idea for the bard. What I think of as a Dwarven Bard is a teller of epic tales and a recorder of ancient history. None of this sissy prancing around with a lute. Give him a Warhorn or a Wardrum or something. Maybe switch some of his bardic music abilities around to be more Dwarf oriented (bonuses to craft and other dwarf-ish skills). Any other good ideas?

I know we've only got 2 members, but I think the sooner we start discussion, the sooner others will want to join in our effort.

(Stupid elves......taking all the dwarven Glory...)

And always trying to kill us dragons. I wonder if dragons and dwarves can get along long enough to crush those pansy, weak-wristed, tree huggers...

Aye, yes, Dragon and Dwarves. No more fearsome creatures exist than we. However, preventing us from getting along is a dragon's desire for gold and gems and a Dwarf's desire for gold and gems.

High Thane Khazur sat in his throne hall, looking through the dim darkness at the empty hall. The sounds of the forge were gone and the merriments of the alehouses had followed suit. Not a soul had come in many days and he now feared that he alone was the last dwarf beneath the Mountains. Eyes saddened, the Thane looked down, laying the great hammer across his lap.

Seriously though, what happened to all the Dwarf enthusiasts? The old foundation had 59 memebers and we have but 2. This is a sad day in under the mountain.

Anyway, I'm developing a Dwarf PrC. Trying to make it geared toward earth spells and the such. If anyone would like to help me, lets discuss it.

There are dragons who do not desire gold and gems. And we get along fine with Dwarves. Elves are much too snooty and fragile to get along with though I must admit that I like trees as much as I like stone and earth.

Its been this old Dwarf's experience that most dragons have some fancy for gold and gems. But, its also been my experience that not all Dwarves love these things.

There is one thing that seems to be the same between un: we both have our eyes on the Elves.

There is one thing that seems to be the same between un: we both have our eyes on the Elves.

Sil casts a great spell - her senses are greatly enhanced and her vision vast. She focuses on hearing - and extends the sense outwards - leagues away - and you rapidly approach the Eastern Ranges, then down, down and through the Earth you fly - into the Vaults of the Mountains - where the Anvils of the Dwarves are busy as a Great Armoury is being prepared.....She muses to herself <A rival clan to the Hosts of Ouro - or perhaps his allies. No word from the Dwarves of Ouroborus for some time now. Mayhap evil has befallen them.....>

She incants - a parchment - incribed with Mithril runes falls at the feet of the Dwarf Lords.....

Earthmasters and Lords of Stone

The lands are in peril. The Sovereign power is shaken and the earth rumbles in protest. Far away, the Crystal Keep of the Psions is alive with many Voices. They devise strange powers of the mind that not even the Archmages can fathom.

Deep within the Great Forest, the Pereldar - Half-Elven - nurse their new children, and their laboratories are alive with new Lore.

But - in the Lands of Darkness - the sky darkens and it is said that Dark Lord has learned how to project an Avatar, in defiance of Mythal Arnandaher into the lands.

We - the Pereldar - declare our Fealty to the Dwarves.

Long may your beards grow

The High Thane leans from his throne, the great hammer sliding from his lap but securely teathered to his wrist by a leath thong. The parchement was lifted so that his old eyes could look at the mythril runes inscribed upon it. The black beard twitched slightly as the dawrf smiled and rolled the parchment back up. Some life had been breathed into the forges and there was now cheerful merriment in the alehouses.

"Even the Elves know to offer their fealty to us... I must remember to pay a visit to their wood as a gesture of goodwill."

Hey there Sil and welcome to the best Dwarf Foundation around! Albeit, its the only one here, but best none-the-less.

What kinds of Dwarves reside here? All kinds, of all subraces and all paths of life. The High Thane Khazur is many and varied in his talents and would require an in-depth explanation of them. However, his are the Ivory Dwarves. Their racial traits will be provided here shortly...

...Sssargoth, check out the Great Grimoire for the Stonemage. He can use any kind of advice and help you'd be willing to give. The Wisdom of Dragons is always welcome here.

Ivory Dwarves

Personality: Ivory Dwarves act towards others as most dwarves do, with an air of caution and mistrust of strangers. But, accompanying this is a steadfast loyalty and dedication that is unwavering for all the long years of an Ivory Dwarf's life. They are slow to laugh or make merry, but they are celebretors without peer once they get strated.

Ivory Dwarves do not particularly enjoy fighting, but are warriors without peer none-the-less. They do not fight in a situation that does not suit them and they are endless strategists, applying only the perfect amount of force to defeat their foe.

Physical Description: Ivory Dwarves are slightly taller than their mountain cousins, standing between 4-1/2 feet and 5-1/2, the latter rarely acheived. But, they are not quite as well muscled as their counterparts, so they tend to run a little leaner. Earning them their name is the color of their skin, which is pale even for spending their days beneath the earth. Their eyes are often light colors, running normally in blues and greens. The occasional Ivory Dwarf has pale lavender or rose colored eyes. The Dwarves are usually taken into the clergy at a young age as their eye color is said to be the blessing of the gods.

Standing in stark contrast to their skin is their hair. Ivory Dwarves often boast manes of dark browns and blacks. Rarer is blonde and rarer still is red. Ivory Dwarf males wear their hair long in their youth, as they do their beards, twisting both into elaborate braids to signify their status. Later in their life, most Ivory Dwarf males sport bald hair, finding that white hair does not suit their pale countenance. Ivory Dwarf women wear their hair long throughout their lives, usually opting for simple braids or no braid at all. About half od all Ivory Dwarf females are capable of growing beards, which are usually worn shortly cropped and is thought to be a symbol fo status among the higher echelons of Ivory Dwarf society.

Clothing in their culture is oftentimes utalitarian; solid colors on clothing that breathes well. Cotton, wool, and some animal furs are most often used to create their clothing. Ivory dwarves favor jewelry, usually silver adorned with vibrant rubies or emeralds. All Ivory Dwarves carry a weapon, the make of which can be used to identify their prosperity. Males carry one-handed weapons, usually warhammers or waraxes, while women favor small, lighter weapons, such as daggers or kukris.

Relations: Ivory Dwarves get along well with other Dwarves, as their humor runs along the same veins and they are fond of similar endeavors. Ivory Dwarves find Gnomes and Halflings to be flighty and rarely desire to engage one in conversation for long. Humans are viewed as a middle between Gnomes and Halflings, dedicated on one hand and hastey on the other. Elves and Half-elves are treated with respect by the Ivory Dwarves, but the Dwarves tend to find Elves and Half-elves to be too chaotic for their own tastes. Half-orcs, however, do not earn the same ire as they do from other Dwarves. Ivory Dwarves have remained relatively unmolested by the Half-orcs' full-blooded brethren, and thus have no innate racial prejudice.

Alignment: Like most Dwarves, Ivory Dwarves favor a strict set of rules to govern them. Their culture is very structured and everyone knows their place. Most Ivory Dwarves tend to be on the benevolent side of good and evil. However, evil Ivory Dwarves are not shunned or segregated as long as they can live within the confines of the established society.

Ivory Dwarf Lands: The center of the Ivory Dwarf culture is known as the Hall Under the Mountain in the common tongue. It lies far to the east, in a broad expanse of mountains that the Ivory Dwarves call the Aumn heights. It is believed that it was here that Ushmanzur, the first Ivory Dwarf, came to the earth and placed his forge. The mountain range and the lowlands surrounding it for miles in all directions are considered the domain of the Ivory Dwarves. However, the Dwarves are less concerned with the lowlands and do not seem to have a decisive preference whether it is or is not populated by other races. Given this, human settlements have sprouted in the plains like petals on a flower, trading foodstuffs and other luxuries for the weapons, armor, precious metals and gems of the Ivory Dwarves.

The Ivory Dwarves are, however, very adament about not allowing other races to build permanent settlements in their mountains. Most settlements that sprout up in such places receive a warning soon after they are noticed. The residents either remove themselves or are removed by the dwarves. Their settlements are meticulously deconstructed in the later case. Rumors persist of fertile valleys in the mountains filled with barley and hops and wheat and harvested by dwarven farmhands. These remain rumors.

Religion: Above all, Ivory Dwarves revere Moradin. The crafting aspect of the All-Father draws most Ivory Dwarves to his pantheon. However, there is a large following of Clangeddin Silverbeard, the Father of Battle. Ivory Dwarves also worship, Ushmanzur, the Giantsbane as he is believed to be the propegator of their subrace.

Language: Ivory Dwarves speak Dwarven.

Names: An Ivory Dwarf's name is very important, it holds both prestige and a certain prohpetical power, or so the Ivory Dwarves believe. However, given this particularl belief, the Ivory Dwarves do not name their children for the first year of their life. The reasoning behind this is to see what sort of name a dwarf child should have. It would not be proper for a Dwarven Smith to have a name concerning the art of war.

Ivory Dwarves prefer hard sounds at the beginning of their names, to draw attention to the person, followed by a softer syllable. It is not uncommon for an Ivory Dwarf to have several hard syllables and several soft ones in their name. For an unknown reason, Ivory Dwarves prefer female names that are hyphonated. Some religious Ivory Dwarves claim that this is because Ushmanzur's wife's name was hyphonated. It is also not uncommon for an Ivory Dwarf's name to change over their lives. Usually this happens after some significant event in their life that has changed them as an individual. Married Ivory Dwarves often change their name ever so slightly to incorporate part of their partner's name.

Male Names: Khazur, Rokkin, Guttan, Tholfhild, Irkar.

Female Names: In-Dri, Kik-en, Krina, Arka, Kol-dur.

Clan Names: Berrik, Martak, Ushmanzur (reserved for followers of the deity), Pentor, Peldi.

Adventures: Ivory Dwarves most commonly adventure to build upon the experience they have received at their home. An Ivory Dwarf artisan may travel to an elven forest to learn their techniques or a blacksmith may travel to distant lands to learn of new weapons and better ways to forge. Usually, their adventuring has something to do with their skill in life, though Ivory Dwarves do travel for the sole purpose of fame and fortune.

Ivory Dwarf Racial Traits
+2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom: Ivory Dwarves are hardy and stong like their cousins, but often times they are quick to judgement.
Medium: As Medium creatures, Ivory Dwarves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Dream Dwarf base land speed is 20 feet. However, due to their exceptional stability and hardiness, they can move at this speed even while wearing medium or heavy armor or carrying a medium or heavy load.
Darkvision: Ivory Dwarves can see in the dark out to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it otherwise like normal vision.
Stonecunning: Ivory Dwarves have a knack for finding unusual stonework. They receive a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notive usual stonework. An Ivory Dwarf that merely comes within 10 feet of unusual stonework can make a Search check as if he were actively searching and an Ivory Dwarf can use the Search skill to find stonework traps as a rogue can.
Weapon Familiarity: Ivory Dwarves treat Dwarven Waraxes and Dwarven Urgroshes as martial weapons rather than exotic ones.
Stability: An Ivory Dwarf gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped while standing on the ground..
+2 racial bonus to saving throws to resist poison.
+2 racial bonus to saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities.
+4 dodge bonus to Armor Class against monsters of with the giant type. Any time an Ivory Dwarf would lose his Dexterity bonus to AC, he loses this bonus as well.
+2 racial bonus on Appraise checks that are related to stone or metal items.
+2 racial bonus on Craft checks that are related to stone or metal.
+2 racial bonus to any craft skill (however, the Ivory Dwarf must still put ranks in that skill to count as being trained in it). Ivory Dwarves are craftsmen at heart and, thus, are dedicated to a certain craft.
Automatic Languages: Common and Dwarven. Bonus Languages: Giant, Gnome, Goblin, Orc Terran, and Undercommon.
Favored Class: Fighter.

A middle-aged dwarf with a pipe in his one hand and an incredibly beautiful axe in his other makes his way through the yet empty and silent halls of this new dwarven settlement. He looks around, his face frowned as he is painfully confronted with the dwindling of the dwarven population. He seems a little lost, but more in his mind then in the physical world. Sometimes he stops to mumble something to his weapon, but he gets no response. All he says is undiscernable, and he pays no heed yet to the few others that stand by.

His beard is red, carefully groomed as every dwarf tends to do. A chain shirt he wears and a small, simple iron helmet is placed shoddily on his head. His boots are firm and wearied, the leather peeling of at some points even.

After another one of these pauses, he raises his head to scan the surroundings once again. Obviously to his surprise he finds himself being observed by a few of the apparent residents of this place, and he takes a few steps back as he receives the shock. Seeing that he just stumbled unknowingly into a king's presence, he hesitates on how to regain his stature.

"Ahem... I, uh, lost my, uh... tabacco! Yes, that's it, how can I smoke without that eh? Ha!" Suddenly reconsidering the people around him, and probably especially the king, stare at him with split emotions, he bows and tightens his chain shirt afterwards, caughing twice quickly after eachother before he speaks.

"Forgive me, your royal highness, as you see I didn't expect such high authority here. I see you have established yourself here as a new dwarven foundation? My name is Garth...", he seems to wait a little before continuing after giving his first name, as if he is going to add his clan name shortly as per dwarven standards, but instead he sighs and continues, "...and I am a member of the Old Foundation, established here by our own royalty long before you came here. Forgive me my indoctrination if it sounds like it so far, but I'm merely here to tell that the Old Foundation started to crumble down and suddenly I received note of a new one being founded in neighboring lands. I seek shelter here as the dwarves of my old Foundation seem to have abandoned their forges and left their king, in hopes of becoming part of a new unity. Will you grant me entrance to your foundation in return of my loyalty? I promise you my loyalty is a big prize for me to pay as I actually never broke my old loyalty to the old Foundation, and I don't intend to do it should the dwarves there ever come back.

My strengths lay in my Bloodaxe, magically enchanted by an old aquaintant of mine, who gave it a life of its own, and ever since we have been inseperable. If you accept me, please also accept him."

The dwarf again bows to you and waits for your answer.

The High Thane looks up from the mythril runed parchement to inspect the new dwarf. Light eyes focus on him as he makes his first speech about having lost his tobacco. A slight smile cracks the stern visage of the dwarf king as listens to his continued introduction.

I have heard but legends of your hosts, the Dwarves of Ouroboros I assume you to be. Welcome to the Hall Under the Mountain, good Garth. I am High Thane Khazur and this is my realm. Indeed I sent message to the most notable among the old foundation and I am glad that you, at least, have answered the call. You are welcome here, brother. But first thigns first, he motioned to one of the attendants about the great hall, Get this traveller some tobacco.

Good to have you JackRipper, I'm sure others that I have PMed have just not addressed the message. Hope you feel at home here.

Get this traveller some tobacco.

A rather young-looking red dragon shakes his head and rolls his eyes. "How can any respectable dwarf smoke without any mead? It's an unheard of act, even among the dragons."

High Thane Khazur looked at the dragon. The crafty creatures were everywhere it seemed and he was not safe from scrutiny even in his own halls. Clasping the attendant on the shoulder berfor he could get too far, the High Thane conintued.

"And bring a cask fine mead from my personal stores, this traveller must be parched. Bring a dozen horns to drink it from as well."

Garth is so pleased he is admitted as a member of the new foundation with such kindness, he almost forgets he is in the presence of the High Thane of the foundation and reaches out for the mead and tobacco offered to him with uncontrolled desire. He takes a big pull at his mead and prepares his pipe for another smoke. Busy as he is concentrating on these simple activities, he again disregards anyone in the surroundings for a while. When he finishes, he frantically looks around at all the others and his face changes to a tomato-red colour in mere seconds, but then he remembers the friendliness of the place and dares to accept it at last; as he raises his mug, he laughs with a deep tone and says: "Cheers everyone, thank you so much for the welcome!"

For the remainder of the time, Garth listens to the ongoing discussions and his ears catch the discussion on the low sign-up rate and such, and he thinks for a while before sharing his opinion:

"If you'll excuse me for the interruption, High Thane of the dwarves, but your concerns have concerned me as well. I left the emptied halls of dwarven kin in hopes to find a more densely populated stronghold, and I find a small group of lonely dwarves whose voices echoe through the empty caves. Is it not our duty to make sure that the dwarves will not go under and dissapear in the big crowds of humans, elves and even orcs? We must think of something to ensure new members, even though I realise gathering the same amount of dwarves as Ouroboros did, over fifty of them, is a lengthy process and we should not bother about the amount of members just yet. Instead we must arouse the popularity of dwarves altogether! If we do that members will follow!"

The dwarf stops his speech as he realises it has run out into a ramble with a question of which he can't even find an answer himself: 'How are they going to do that? Start a pro-dwarf campaign?' What was he thinking? He was just intending to ease the pain of the High Thane when he started speaking, and now he ended up with this... But then, he thinks of something, something he himself finds so genious he jumps in the air and waves his (luckily already empty) mug into the air.

"In the Old Foundation I come from we dwarves had carved giant halls into the mountains like our people tend to do to create their homes well fortified and comfortably stable. The halls with columns hundreds of feet high, build from eternities of true dwarven craftmanship, and bridges that crossed chasms tenfold of the height of those columns, even more! It was craft as wel as art, and even the florid elves couldn't leave those tunnels without a feeling of being impressed that overwhelmed them.

Now I come here, and find a nice settlement for dwarves to begin with, but not even near grand enough for us to house the amount of dwarves we wish for. Why don't we gather around a table with more of this magnificent ale and brainstorm about how we can make our future homes just as great, or even better, then those I came from? Let's make an outlay of what we will build, let's think of what we need to attract more people to these yet dank caves? Bath-houses and barbers to groom our beards and wash them, temples to make sure Moradin will bless this enterprise as well as he did so with the Old Foundation, a fort for all to come to and fight from when our race is under siege! We need it all lest the numerous other foundations, tribes and clans that fill these lands (read 'The Guild House' ;)) will laugh at us and even take not only our pride but also our lives! Are you interested in this project to run here on this foundation? I mean, have us dwarves design a true dwarven capital that will be the envy of the world, of all other dwarves even! That will surely catch the attention of fellow dwarves and dwarf-friends all over the world!"

Garth breaths heavily as he ends his uninterrupted flow of words, enthousiast as he is, and happy that he may have found something for the dwarves to participate in, as the hard workers they are. It will be a fun thing to do; to think about the way dwarves build their halls and design their homes, something really fitting he thinks for such a foundation.

The High Thane sits back in his seat, drinking deeply from the mead horn. This dwarf did seem to be energetic about such an endeavor. It was a good idea, one that needed more attention.

"Aye, Garth, I think this to be an excellent undertaking. One that we dwarves will be remembered through history for. Indeed, if we can begin this, process and hopefully build ourselves a great city and attract many dwarves in the making and afterward. I do hope it is in time though, as I have received word from the Elves of Pereldar that a darkness falls over the land. For this we must be ready." Khazur motioned to one of the seats beside him, "Please sit and tell me more of your grand ideals for these halls of mine."

In other news, I've begun designs on a PrC molded after the Hammer of Moradin but devoted to the Dwarven god of war, Clanggedin Silverbeard. I was planning on calling it a Silverbeard. Have any ideas on abilities and the such?

Listening to what the High Thane has to say about his ideas, Garth bows and answers:

"If what the Pereldar say is true, and we have no reason to doubt that, wise master, then we'd better put some emphasis on that mighty fortress that is part of the plan I was talking about.

We will build a wonder of the world, a refuge for all fellow dwarves and all who are allowed by your supreme sense of justice, the hopes upon which all will focus when times will become more dreaded then we could've ever foreseen. But you are right to say there is much to be done and haste is needed. Let me explain my plans, lord."

He sucks briefly at his pipe before he continues, as if the burning tobacco inside it is needed to fuel his mind.

"The idea, fellow dwarves, is to together build a city for ourselves. Some goals we must heed in this have already become clear, as it must be able to house many dwarves comfortably but also especially safe, even in these dangerous times. In order to achieve this, however, careful planning will be necessary, lest we will certainly fail. I am no engineer, nor am I a great and inspiring leader, but let me ask of you to join in the process of brainstorming; what will we need in our grand halls? With which materials will we build? Where shall we place the buildings in relation to eachother? What style shall we give our buildings? Ask yourselves these questions and more, and answer as a true dwarf! Show us what you can come up with, and if you have ideas, work them out and show us it's complete version! Then we can put it in our city and this foundation will be the true example of a dwarven home for all other's to learn from."

Garth finishes his speech with the standard words: "Any questions?"

Ok, I'll go out of my character for just a while to be a bit more clear :P:

if everyone just comes up with great ideas of how their visions are of what a true great dwarven kingdom should look like, then we could put that together if things run well and 'assemble' an empire. :) I don't think we really need a tight organisation; if everyone who wants to just posts his insights and everything relating to dwarves and their architecture etc., we can go on from there. Good idea? This way, as is one of the purposes of foundations, we can provide forum visitors with ideas on how they can design their dwarven kingdoms in their own worlds. (I myself have nothing yet, but working on it. I thought it would be best if the first brick is put into place not by the instigator but by other enthousiasts :). Let's get this thing going!

Thane Khazur smirked slightly as he listened to Garth speak. He drank deeply from his cup of mead before answering in reply.

"What material, you ask? What material is better than stone, by Brother? Our vast halls crafted of the same stuff that sits atop it and holds it up. But more to our task, what will our halls consist of. You currently sit in the Great Hall Under the Mountain, built from the rock itself by my grandsire's great grandsire" (thats, great, great grandfather) "I plan this to be the center of our city, the seat at which we sit and deliberate matters. We will need a vast forge, filled with fire garnered from the belly of the mountain and manned by now more than four score of smiths. An armory to be paired with this that holds the armaments for great sieges. Each dwarf carries his own axe, but here would lie the foundation of an army need we muster it. A great vault to house our treasure, of which we have much, would best be carved directly into the wall of the mountain. To house our kin should be no less than a district or two of housing, multilayered flats with each family receiving a layer. And alehouses and breweries to quench their the thirst of the Smith, for there is no thrist greater in this realm."

The Thane obviously needed fuel for his own brain, as he drew again deeply from the cup in his hand.

"Certainly not least among our worries should be a grand chamber dedicated to the All Father, Moradin. Praise be to Him. Now fewer than a dozen of our brothers should tend the temple, lifting the prayers to the heavens each day and letting the moutain ring with his name. It would be wise to offer praise to the other deities as well so that fortune may smile on us. A vast library ajoined here, filled with books as old as our people and on as many varying subject as there are hairs in my beard. Here will lie the Great Grimoire, record of our Hold and the Stonemages' study."

Smiling wide at such a vision, Khazur looked across at Garth, eyes full of hope.

"I have offered much thought on this, tell me Brother, what council can you give me on this?

Whew, that was a mouth full. But that is the basis of every Dwarven keep that I think of. Ale, smiths, and gods. In other news, I created the Silverbeard Knight, a PrC for Paladin Dwarves devoted to Clanggedin Silverbeard. Check out the link in the Grimoire and leave me some feedback, it'd be much appreciated.

What material is better than stone? Adamantine, for one. I'd at least use it to lend support to the stone.

Garth listens to the High Thane attentively, and takes a few lurks from his pipe while he speaks. Every time he finishes his lurk, he nods a little and when the Thane is done giving his insight, Garth answers the Thane's interest in his opinion:

"Indeed you give us a good starting point from where we can build upon, High Thane. Of course we must have many places where we can spill our ale shamelessly and get together to alleviate our spirits, and they must be accessable to all of us. If we divide our halls into districts, then we should build one such alehouse in every district.

And speaking of districts; we must split the residential areas from the industrial ones, so the forges don't blacken our faces with soot while we sit at the hearth with our family. The flats you describe sound like a fine idea to me, as every clan/family will receive enough privacy to go about their businesses.

Now this great and wonderfull temple is just a great idea. Moradin and the other gods will dwell there and bless our glorious people. This temple should be in the absolute center of our city, perhaps next to your throne hall, High Thane. This way both you and Moradin can be considered the center of our lives, and all dwarves will always be reminded about the gods and the government when leaving their houses to go to work and vice versa when they see the great pinacle of the temple that should reach highest of all buildings in our city. And of course this way you and any other guides of our people can go to consult the All Father, the other gods and the knowledge of the many books stored their in an instant.

But how will we put up our defenses when the warnings of our half-elven friends prove insurmountable? Will we let ourselves be overrun by hordes of orcs and other dark scum or will we organize our defenses and build structures to keep ourselves safe from harm's way? Indeed the armoury will be huge, and should not stand far from the main entrance to ensure the dwarves will not have to run for their weapons and return to late and find our walls breached. But there is much more to be discussed in this matter I think; should we build walls? Should we build a keep? What will our main entrance to the mountain look like and be protected by, other then by the blessings of the All Father? And what about the barracks and training grounds? I leave these questions for the strategists among us for now, and possibly adress them myself later.

But there are more things to think about: where and how will we grow our crops or tend our herds? Or will we simply import it all? I know that us living within the mountains itself has given birth to the rumours among other folk of how we keep our people fed, which has even led to the assumptions that we fill our stomaches solely with mead and ale, or even that we torture our teeth as we gnaw upon rocks and stones! Well now, can anyone explain how we will get the abundance of food we will want when these halls are filled with dwarve kind?

And more... yes, there is much more to think of: is it only drinking that we dwarves care about? Drinking and working till we fall on the ground fast asleep? Are there no other provisions we dwarves use in our lives then alehouses? Where can I go when I want my beard groomed? Where can I go when I want my clothes cleaned? Or when I am filthy after a hard day's work at the forges? Where will our people rest after this life? Where will they first see the majestic halls of our people? Where will they marry? Where can I go to when I am sick, or wounded even? Will this all be done in that one temple? However large it is, can we make one building that can provide all these servives and more to our community?"

Garth sighs and thinks he has made enough questions for now. He decides to end with the words:

"I leave you now with all these questions, just to get the juices going. I will, when I get my own ones working, add my own ideas on these matters. And again: all of you dwarves and visitors are allowed to voice their opinions and questions etc. So join the creation of our majestic halls and share in the construction of something that will stand forever!"

Stepping out of character for this post.

Jack, are you planning on joining in on the Inter-Foundation Wargames? I'm planning or representing the Dwarf Foundation, and I'd hate to go at it alone. If you haven't been following it, there are a couple threads floating around the Guild House that would explain things in length. The same goes for you, DM (though I have a sneaking suspicion he doesn't check this thread).

Anyway, I hope to see you both participating, though I understand if you don't have time enough to dedicate to it.

Garth was still envisioning large temples and great mountain halls when suddenly the question asked at him was received by his fuzzy mind. His eyes widen, then he frowns, points his hands at himself and looks at the High Thane puzzled:

"You would ask me to accompany you to the Inter-Foundation Wargames, and stand besides you when facing the many curious eyes as they first witness two brave dwarves enter the arena, and thereby be honoured to represent my very species? I just can't begin to express the gratitude I owe you now for honoring me by choosing me. Of course my answer is, with no doubt, yes! We shall put our kin back into the world's arena, where the truly important matters are discussed and fought over, and at the same time put our dwarven race back into the spotlights!

Now this is a great idea, but I must warn you: I have no true experience with politics. I have never addressed such an inter-foundation gathering before, and..."

For a moment Garth starts stumbling over his own words as if ashamed for something, and his face again grows the colour red. He hesitates, he hesitates even more, but then he speaks up, as if he just breached a big barrier and now is ready to do what he could not before:

"I must tell you a bit of my past before I can simply forget about it and take this honor without bad feelings. And since you have been kind to your fellow dwarves and I trust you, I feel you have the right to know.

When previously I introduced myself as Garth, I almost wanted to lie to you and make up a clan name that instant. But I didn't, and now I'm happy for that, but the fact remains that I am a clanless dwarve, banished from my old clan Balderk, and also from my family and kingdom, never allowed to attone myself. It is a large tale to tell you the reason for that, but I will tell it and hopefully find your mercy, and still receive the respect from you to go with you to the War Games."

Garth takes a deep breath and goes on, readying himself for a long haul:

[i]"I lived in the dwarven kingdom of the Iron Mountains range, and grew up as a noble dwarve. My father and mother both were clerics of Muradin, and, according to the birth right, I was to follow in their footsteps.

But there were more clans in the Iron Mountains kingdom, and the Tarduk clan, also a line of dwarves associated with the worship of Muradin, claimed that it was their son who would take the exact same place. For many decennia there had been a disturbing feud between both clans, and the moment when I or the Tarduk son would have to come forward came closer.

Until war emerged. It was completely unexpected and the reasons are still oblivious to the Iron Mountains dwarves, but a surprising alliance of kobolds and humans from the kingdom of Arhim assaulted us, and I was called upon to fight. Of course we did this, but the attack was to unexpected and to big, and our defenses breached and a large battle inside our very halls took place.

I fought as hard as I could, but this distracted me from the other enemies, the Tarduk clan, that now took their chances and attempted to assasinate my father and mother and forever silence the voices of my clan. After all, during this war it would be no surprise when my parents would be dead. But both my parents escaped and the Tarduk assasin was slayn, luckily. However, when I heared of the tale, I got furious and the adrenaline of the ongoing battle was enough to drive me insane. I went to the Tarduk Estate, bend on revenge.

There, to my greatest regret, I went berserk. I... I slaughtered the entire family, even the unarmed children, not older then ten to twenty years old, and I went outside and noticed the battle had now turned hopeless. All was lost to me in an instant, and the retreat of the dwarves was the saddest thing I've ever experienced. But I was not allowed to partake in it for long.

As my dwarven brethren went to seek new lands away from the kobolds and Arhimeans, it turned out that my acts did not go unnoticed. My father had followed me, and saw me murder and kill innocent children. The dwarven community demanded that my clan would banish me, and so they did, and I was expelled and not allowed to follow the retreat any longer.

Many tales followed of journeys I had thereafter, as I adventured alongside my only remaining childhood friend Golmir, who took my side when the trial took place. When both of us settled down, we lost contact, and I arrived in the old dwarven foundation, that now seems deserted. Now I stand here, asking you to 'forgive' my heinous acts, but expect none really.

I hope you still want me representing this foundation with you, but don't feel bad turning me down..."

Garth now looks at you with tears in his eyes, as he is relieved that his tale of shame is over, and now the next action is up to the High Thane.

Out of Character:
Now that you now all about Garth's earlier history, that's out of the way. ;)

If you want me to go with you, I'd be interested, but I've yet to read through the immense amount of discussion that has been posted so far on these topics; Indeed I haven't followed it so far. However, I'm really interested and like all I've read till now. I will go and do some more research.

The High Thane looked at the new Dwarf while he spoke, his face a mask of stoic indifference. When Garth was done, the High Thane leaned back in his seat, arms folded over his chest as he thought. After several long moments, Khazur responded.

"An unfortunate happenstance I am certain. We Dwarves have long memories, which is both a boon and a curse. Yours seems to be a curse. But, as High Thane Under the Mountain, do I have it in my power to forgive you? On one side, your actions were grave and of such a heinous manner as to cause you to be banished. However, the Tarduk clan acted in a manner unbefitting of Dwarves. We do not stab eachother in the back in the dark. Leave that to the humans that the dread drow who dwell far below us."

Khazur stood from his throne and approached Garth's chair, "I have not the power to ease your mind about your actions, the mind of others is not a kingdom over which I can hold sway. Moradin is the only one who can forgive you and settle your restless spirit. I can, however, do one thing." The High Thane held his hand out to Garth, the palm weathered and strong from years spent in a forge, "I can tell you that I would still be honored if you marched beneath my banner, the banner of Clan Khalad. And I believe that your dedication to our cause can and will make up for your actions through hard work and good deed. Will you honor me by carrying my crest?"

I'd certainly like to see our foundation have a couple members in the games. Can't be letting those Half-elves or humans or dragons have all the fun.

Good to see you Jack Ripper - I've seen you around here I'm sure.
And ditto for Fuzzy Logic.

I like the Dwarven concepts being introduced very much. The Ivory Dwarves - who's idea was that - very well structured materials.

I'd be curious to know more about magic and Dwarves. How does the Thane relate to magic? And do these Dwarves have spell casters - or are we a community of stone-cunning craftsmen with arms and weapons?

Also - what about the cultural aspects? How are we organised, and ....Silmarien's presence is suddenly in the room. Her apparition - a projection from a remote location. "Forgive me Thane if I have insulted the Dwarven sensibility. But I am ignorant of your customs and need education. I would seek your Counsel - if I may be granted access to your lands The apparition bows, low before the Thane.

Fuzzy: I just noticed this foundation is not in the foundation compendium of orcy the green wonder. The link named 'dwarven' still goes to the old foundation. Perhaps it might help member-flow-in or at least this foundation's noticability a bit if we pm orcy if he could add our foundation to his list.

Also; I'm as good as done with researching the wargames and still plan on going for it. All we gotta do now is wait for the beginning, or did you have other things in mind?

Going over to Garth: :)

The old dwarf had been keeping his breath almost for the entire duration of Khazur's answer, and he gives a sigh of relieve when he hears his reply, but the tears in his eyes do not dissapear. It was this or living of the land again... Now he gets to march alongside the High Thane of the dwarven foundation in every encounter on the Inter-Foundation WarGames.

You remind me of my old foundation's leader, good Thane! He too forgave my actions with such benevolence and mercy, I can't even begin to comprehend. Your hearth is large, and as solid as rock, king Khazur. I will never led you down, so swears Garth on... on his Bloodaxe...

Wow, that was a vow he made there. On his Bloodaxe, his one and only companion if he ever had one, any good acquaintant of Garth would think now. Yet, Garth seems to mean every word of it.

When Lady Silmarien's appearance enters the halls of the dwarves, Garth takes a few steps back, realising that the Lady requires the attention of his noble High Thane. Yet, his current state of enthousiasm (he just got his forgiveness) makes him reply to the questions of the half-elf.

Good to see you Jack Ripper - I've seen you around here I'm sure.
Thank you, Silmarien, for your acknowledgement. Garth bows. I have been at the guild house for quite some time now, having been a member of the old dwarven foundation back in the days when the now empty halls still echoed the booming voices of dwarves singing, but have always been used to keep things to myself and dont make much of a fuss; that might explain your reaction. It is likewise very good to see you, Lady Silmarien Aldalome.

Ah, the Ivory dwarves; you'll have to ask our inventive Fuzzy Logic for that. I still have to look at it myself, but I will soon.

Also, I am no arcane specialist, my only knowledge of magic, divine though it is, lies in the ways of Moradin, the All Father. I have, to my regrets, never had the privilege of accepting my birth right, but I have learned much of our creator nevertheless, in my younger years. But I am not even a divine caster, as those gifts would be bestown upon me only after my acception of the birth right. I regret that I can help you little, but perhaps one of my fellow dwarves can. Oh, and perhaps we should discuss the matter here once.

And our culture you ask? Well, for that you can look around you. These halls we are constructing are our culture in every way possible: we are the best craftsmen of this world, and we are building our houses inside the world itself.

In it, you'll find everything we need, from barbers to taverns to temples, and we're even planning on a library with all great knowledge dwarves hold. Also we are still in the process of developing our military defenses, like gates and a keep, but war is most certainly one of the dwarve's specialties. I know I tell you only things you perhaps already know, but if you would like to learn more, might I suggest you follow the progress of our project of creating these immense halls? Once it is finished the marvelous image of it alone will tell you more then a thousand words.

I will return hopefully with more ideas on the halls construction and some feedback of the ivory dwarves.

The Ivory Dwarves - who's idea was that - very well structured materials.

*Miss America wave, crying and fanning face* Thank you... Thank you. The Ivory Dwarves are one of the several subraces of Dwarves in my home brew setting (also inclduing the Hill Dwarves who are farming specialists, and Sea Dwarves. Can you believe it? Dwarves that like water? More importantly, like creating battelships).

The Thane had only just returned to his throne, smiling widely as Garth accepted. His retinue was growing and soon the Dwarves would be a force to reckon with once more. Then, the apperation that was the fair leader of the Elves of Pereldar.

"Welcome to the great Hall Under the Mountain, Archmage of the Elves. You caused no interruption, the allies and friends of the Mountain Folk are forever welcome in these halls. I would offer you to sit, but your preferred form of transposition want not for chairs. I shall tell you of our people so that it may be entered into the books of the elves...

...No great race may call themselves smiths without the use of enchantment to power their weapons. And, though I am sure that our limited view of knowledge is nothing in comparison with the vastness of your peoples', we have the power to enchant our armor and weapon with special properties. I myself am a servant of the Soulforger, to whom we offer our lives and spirits. But, I leave the arcanic devices to the Stonemages and Runesmiths, who are our greatest magical allies. They control the power of the ley lines, drawing magical energy from the earth itself, much as you draw your power from the dust of dead stars. Unlike my Mountain cousins, or even those living in the Lower Lands, my kinfolk do not shun magic to near exclusion. We promote that which makes our forges strong and, if you were to go below my halls to the furnace of the forge, you would find our anvils to be crusted with sigils and glyphs.

Our culture is rich and would take up a fortnight to relay to you. I shall have an aide fetch the tomes from our collection so that you can verse yourself on our affairs and occasions, if it be your wish to."

Thane Khazur layed the great hammer across his lap, placing his hand on the head of the weapon.

"But I do not believe you expended your power to come here for a History lesson. Is there more that the Ivory Dwarves can do for you?"

Meaning... I'll make a write-up later, something akin to what you might find in the Races of Stone book, but specific for the Ivory Dwarves.

For it is the simple things that are most valuable. Could I count myself among your ranks? For I am a mighty warrior, and a loyal servant."

I'm thinking on joining this foundation. I've always admired dwarves, and I figure they are much more simpler and agreeable than many of the other races. Elves can be too proud, and humans too random. Dwarves are rock-solid, and lead simpler lives.

P.S.
I could use some help on a dwarven accent, if anyone cared to explain it to me.

A lone dwarf warrior wanders through the abandoned halls of the Dwarven Lords. It has been a long time since they have been in use, the condition of the place gives this away. The dwarf sighs at the loneliness of these halls, despairing that such a great kind no longer graces this place. He continues to wander, looking over the many accomplishments of the dwarves that were once here, learning from them.

I hope this foundation can get brought back from inactivity. Dwarves are some of the coolest characters in the game. Also, for any of you who will play a dwarf in the IFWG, my character will have a Thunder Twin, and rather than make an NPC for his twin, it would be better to have another person play as his twin. Any takers?

yes we should not let the guild fall and if you want i could play the twin a dwarf mage female. thats whats i would make her a mage, studying to be a great mage some day. Ring the dinner bell loud enough and they will come out.

For dwarfs all start or most do with being a fighter then move on to be a cleric or wizard. They have to learn how to fight and how to forge weapons and armor. Minw ound be a fighter and stop at fifth or sixth level then study to be a mage. Thats what the dwarfs say, You ave to know how to fight first. Then you can learn all that other none since like magic! The dwarf say that one dwarf is worth ten orc's any day, thats why we leasrn to fight first.
Rolindin started as a fighter then when on to magic, the dwarven customs. Learn how to fight, if your magic fails you can still use your axe.

Or hammer. Or both, if you can. I'm thinking on making my character use two weapons at once, but that might hurt my AC 'cause I won't be able to use a shield.

I usually run my dwarf characters as straight Fighters, and maybe multiclass them into other martial classes. They're usually honorbound warriors who serve as protectors of all dwarvenkind from giants, goblinoids, orcs, and any other enemies who would seek to destroy them. Afterall, nothing beats a Dwarf Fighter, and there is no one with a better defense than a Dwarven Defender.

a good last name for the family is imporatant, and what does the dwarf wear in their hair. This is important wearing items in the hair. exsample, in the players hand book drawing of a dwarf with the rings in the beard, that tell another dwarf what clan, what family. So for the twins we need to come up with a clan item, a family item. things to choose from, gold rings, silver rings, stones with ruins on them, rubies, diamons, sappafires, what kind of item for the clan and family do you think. What do you think is a good family name. I like Bloodrock, it means to the dwarf family one who makes weapions to kill their enemys. Think about hair items and family name. Like battlehammer, to me means one who uses a battle hammer in battle and can make then as well. this is how dwarfs know what clan the others are from, if they don't know they ask the dwarf, because they don'y recanize the items and how worn in hair.

dwarven armor is accourding to the clan and a defender will wear the armor of the clan. what type of decaration is on the armor, one like in the players handbook or maybe a dragon head is the clan symbol. the families will have thier own family armor that will indentify to the family and clan. So what kind of armor decaration is for the clan, or the family.
Somthing to think about.

I don't know about a last name. I've used Balderk as a last name for one of my dwarf characters before. I also like Stoneshield.

For family items, I like rubies. And putting rings in your beard or hair sounds pretty interesting. I wonder if that would let us use more than just two rings at once? :D

I'm not totally certain about armor decoration. Maybe we could have armor and weapons encrusted with rubies? I kinda like the idea of a dragon design, but that's probably been done millions of times. Also, perhaps our armor and weapons should all be adamantine (3.5 instead of 3.0).

I was thinking of running my dwarf with the first name Rurik.

If you look in the dmg 3.5 at the dwarfs drawings, a lot have more than on gold or silver rings. This could be a family or clan design. as fo female dwarf Cloren, what does the family name you Balderk mean, its family name meaning.
There is Goldthorn, Hillsvein, Axesmith. alot more.
in the drawings you could have a dragon tie back with leather on the breard. look at the drawings. The dwarfs men with the metal (I think ones a gargly)are wearing tie backs.
Dyne

12-10-04, 08:49 PM
I have no idea what Balderk means, if it really means anything. I just got it out of the PHB.

I currently don't have a DMG. I use the SRD for magic items and such, but I can't look at the drawings.

I know of a lot of dwarves that braid their beards and hair. We could also put rings in our hair (and my beard). Your character doesn't have a beard, does she? I know that some females can grow beards.
Lady Rolindin

that is a clan descion, some do when adventuring. W'll have to talk about the clan and if females wear bears or not, it don't matter to me.Some familes don't and some do clan and family thing.

It really depends on what you want to do, whether or not you want to have a beard. Though, I've always thought the thought of a female with a beard to be rather, strange.

Lady Rolindin, can you craft magic items? If so, perhaps you can make my character a few items? He's a good weapon and armor smith, so he could make armor and weapons for you.

Rurik Bloodrock, the twin of Coren, pulls up to the gates of the Dwarf Foundation in a wagon pulled by two large horses, the wagon packed with all sorts of things. He begins unloading, taking rather large amounts of stuff at a time due to his great strength. He chooses a room, and begins unloading. Within a few moments, he has a smithy set up, and furniture to make himself comfortable. He then relaxes in a chair that is made of fine wood with intricate carvings, and begins to think.

That never bothered me, anymore than the thought that female apes are covered in fur bothered me - beards are just a physical feature of the dwarf species.

The thought of a dwarf without a beard, now THAT I find most passing strange.

Of course, in my worlds it's moot anyway as there are no female dwarves - dwarves reproduce by sculpting their offspring from stone (preferably from the root of a mountain) and performing a creation ritual that they instinctively know.

A dwarf without a beard?! [shudders] Male dwarves HAVE to have a beard, otherwise they're not really a dwarf.

That works too. That's basically how the dwarves came about in the first place.

I just need some general items crafted. If you can craft Weapons/Armor or Wondrous Items, it would be very helpful to have an items or two enchanted.

Specifically, you're the only Dwarf Wizard I know, so you're the only one who can make a Dwarven Thrower. Also, if you could enchant a suit of Adamantine Full Plate (aka Dwarven Plate) for me, it would be most helpful. I'll pay for the raw materials, but your character would need to put in a few XP. I have an awesome concept for my character, but to get all the items I want would cost a little more than 200,000 gp otherwise.

If you're gonna buy something, PLEASE shop at Dyne's Magic Shop. The Hammerforge Corporation has taken away all business from there, so we're about ready to close up shop. I don't really want to do that, since I spent a lot of feats for Item Creation. We'll even give you a rebate, so you save more money!

Because comparing them to elves would just be insulting.

Seriously - I just wanted a real-world example of a species that is similar to humans but had racial features which many humans might find unattractive in females. The point being that it's absurd to transfer human aesthetics (such as finding a bearded female unattractive) onto another species (i.e. dwarves).

Lady Rolindin, we need to work on our Dwarf characters some more. We need to collaborate on them, since they're supposed to work as a team. There are plenty of magic items and such that are designed for friends or allies. I think we should get some of them, since their purpose is to allow people to work better as a team.

Some of the items I've been looking at:

Bracelet of Friends
Ring Gates
Rings of Friend Shield

Plus, we could have like a Permanent Rary's Telepathic Bond.

Oh, and I'm trying to get Sssargoth to give you a better deal on the gems. :D

Another thing:
Our foundation needs defenses. We are the Dwarves, defenses are supposed to be our specialty.

someone did somthing and i haven't been posting, but i,ve been in contact with people about dragon scales. I had Coren working on the hall defenies inbetween trying to get the dragon scales. she put up ten wards, so far cansend list latter wher they are and what type. you should look at her sheet at the players thread somthing different , I realized I made a mistake and corrected that. So she's a pure wizard now and she has been working on the halls, she just needs to have the master smith and her go and help make some of the items. the dragon scales would be a better ward. much better having dragon breath strike some one. and Redhase is my friend I've know her a long time, that's right she a women and she still teases me about bringing me into d&d in the 70ths. she was already dm when i met her, and we become firends. She has called me, she called me after reading your post, I don't want ot post to much just work on the hall and get my dragon scales for the wards spells. the person might be waiting to say things again, and i don't want to talk to him right now. wher not the same person, redhase brought me into d&d, and we still talk on the phone. I play in her games once a year, can't stand her evil style dming. even the good are still a little evil, and does things I think a palatin would not do. like attack a village of peasent because the caputerd orc's trying to raid their village. I think the palatin's would talk to them first and find out whats going on, then make up their mind about if holding orc's as slaves is a evil thing.

A cloaked figure enters these halls proudly holding a serpent decorated staff in his hand. Once he was seen as the leader of the dwarven foundation. It wasn't know by how or what but he was apsorbed into the Deamon web pits to a other material plain. The old foundation begane to fall even faster then the evil being had hoped. As the dwarven gods searched the planes for the champion a other made himself heard turalisj. The gods had to stop there search to help there new avatar to protect him from the the evil power.

Nobody is paying attention it seems

Let's see a dwarven bard should be called a loremaster.
That is the task of a dwarven bard making the dwarvenlore childern nown in dwarven lore.
Dwarven bards are no loners and inspire the dwarves when it is war.
The non lawful has to go.
More armor and less spells (maybe more like the warlock from complete arcane)
The abblity the inspire fear on the enemy. When you hear dwarven drums and hoorns a dwarven army is not far.

A Loremaster doesn't have to be a Wizard, and indeed the Bard class fits the Loremaster PrC better conceptually.

If I were inclined to call a Dwarven bard something other than "bard" it would be "Clan-sayer" or "Clan-speaker" for he would pass on all the deeds of the clan. I'd also consider making a PrC for Dwarven Bards called a War-chanter or Battle-chanter.

What i learned in a short while is that each foundation has to pick 10 champions to battle in Orcy his arena. But this sounds more like the Foundation games then a war.

Now that Ouro's here, Lady Rolindin - he can tell you himself - in any case - there's lots of room for lots of dwarves.

Lady Rolindin's developing a Dwarven city concept - and - that makes Three Dwarf Halls -

The Rilla Mountains
Lady Rolindin's (surprise)
The Dwarf Foundation

Ouro - basically - think LotRings - with various races, an imprisoned Dark lord about to bust loose, a trans-dimensional star-port (Tyrannor), a Guild of Ultimate Evil with various abominations.

Elves, Planetouched, Shadow Weave, Weave, Mystra, Bane, Shar and co, and you have the basic idea.

You can develop any alliance you wish with any guild - and it's pretty much up to you what your Dwarves should be up to.

In any case - rules (MetaThread) are not so far away. Post at MetaThread if you like to join in there.

Regards

Ouro, you have to post your charicter on the Player Charicter stats thread. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=360911&page=1&pp=50) and we also start at 15th level with enough experience to get us half way to 16th.

I unfortunatly must with draw my character from the IFGW. I was going to play but We are only allowed 3 characters.
I would love to lead the dwarves in the war but I am streched thin in the RPing and I do not think that the other characters of mine would be allowed in to the guild since they are not dwarves. I will still come advertise and discus dwarves with anyone who is willing to listen.

Sorry for the inconvience in the IFGW :raincloud :raincloud :raincloud This is my luck and your misfortune I accept all blame for either inspireing someone who dose not want to lead and is no longer participationg in the IFGW or for allowing the guild to be takenover due to our short reaction time, and lack of preparedness.
Balin, Son of Fundin

07-04-05, 10:28 PM
Balin, son of Fundin, approached the warded door.

"Mellon," he said in a low voice. Suddenly, the door to Moria opened. Balin entered, and it shut behind him.

Ahead of him, many dwarves were at work: mining metals and jewels; forging tools, weapons, and armor; and many other errands that dwarves do. The sound of metal clanging was all around, though no sound passed through the door to the outside world. In this place beneath the earth, the dwarves felt safe: cut off from the dangerous surface world.

'A red-bearded Dwarf enters the halls. He is dressed in brown and green studded leather armor and bearing a crossbow and a warhammer. He aproaches the throne and bow's face to the floor. "I am Gras {Groz} Hammerclapper, son of Dirk Hammerclapper. I have long dreamed of joining your foundation. I have come with not to offer but me weapons, me life, and me skills. I only hope that you find this meager offer enough." He looks up and, from closely examining his face, you realize how young this adventurer really is.'

This is the character i'm making. Dwarven Ranger :) .

May I join?
