Fey are have been the most neglected creature type since the release of 3rd edition. This foundation was created in response to that fact.

The Fey Foundation's goal is to create new fey and material utilizing fey of all kinds.

At this early point, I have little planned for RP or the like, but more will likely be added later.

This foundation is a long-delayed extension of a foundation I was part of before the site overhaul in 2003 (Member #54 of the Give Us More Fey Foundation). I was long ignorant that the Guildhouse had even been created, but kept the foundation references in my sig anyway.

A honeybee buzzes toward you with a strange intent. As it approaches, you can make out an extra pair of insect wings of similar form. A moment later, you can see that the second set of wings belongs to a miniscule woman, riding on the bee’s back.

Pillywiggins are flower fairies, pollinators closely associated with bees and wind. They ride bees among the flowers, training the bees to be as efficient as possible in their pollination of those flowers. They build their tiny cities around beehives, and they harvest honey and care for the bees in the colony. If the bees leave, the pillywiggins follow. During the fall and winter, the pillywiggins guard the sleeping queen bees – since this is a small job, most of the city takes time to relax and rest. The ruler usually presides over well-organized winter games that encourage community and relaxation. A pillywiggin ruler is simply known as the lady of her people (or, rarely, the lord), and usually has 9 or more levels of druid.

Pillywiggin culture emphasizes hard work, growth, family, culture, and loyalty. They are firmly aligned with the Seelie Court.

Pillywiggins look like tiny elves, with gossamer wings similar in texture and size to those of their bee mounts. They usually stand about three quarters of an inch tall.

Pillywiggins speak Sylvan.

COMBAT
A pillywiggin that is interrupted in her duties will most likely hide until the intruders leave. If the intruders don’t leave within about twenty minutes, the pillywiggin will try to complete any other duties she may have. If her only remaining objective can’t be completed without alerting the intruders to her presence, the pillywiggin will politely but firmly ask them to leave. If they don’t listen, she will carry out her duties and ignore them. If attacked, she will flee. Pillywiggins can be aroused to violence if the flowers they are tending are harmed, or if their homes or hives are threatened. When defending an area, pillywiggins like to surprise intruders and entangle them. Then, they seek out fey or vermin allies to handle their enemies.

Spell-like Abilities: Always active – speak with vermin*; 1/day – calm vermin* (DC 14), charm vermin* (DC 14), entangle (DC 14), gust of wind (DC 15), magic fang. Caster level 1st. Save DCs are Charisma-based.
* as the animal spells, but they work on vermin instead.

Skills: A pillywiggin’s wings and low density grant it a +4 racial bonus on Balance and Jump checks. A pillywiggin can use the Handle Animal skill on vermin as if they were animals with Intelligence scores of 1.

Honeybees are industrious insects well-known for producing honey and pollinating plants. Honeybees are favored as mounts by pillywiggins. A bee that has been trained to be a pillywiggin’s mount is called a riding bee. Riding bees act much like ordinary bees, except that they are trained not to attack fey.

A riding bee looks like a normal honeybee, but usually bears a tiny saddle for a pillywiggin rider.

COMBAT
Honeybees are generally only aggressive when defending their hive or when significantly disturbed by themselves. They are more likely to attack when they perceive hair, dark colors, and/or carbon dioxide.

Poison (Ex): Injury, Fortitude DC 8, initial damage 1 nonlethal, secondary damage 1 Constitution. Note, however, that secondary does not usually occur. A creature is only vulnerable to the secondary damage if it has already suffered a number of bee stings equal to 16 + the creature’s size-based grapple modifier. This number resets after each saving throw against Constitution damage that is provoked, whether the save is successful or not. Removing the stinger within 1 round of being stung, which requires a standard action and a Heal check (DC 8), prevents secondary damage from being suffered. However, the count of stings suffered is not reduced or reset.

Sting: A honeybee that successfully stings a creature with skin leaves its stinger embedded in that creature’s skin (effectively disemboweling itself), and dies 1 round later. It usually tries to distract its victim during that time by acting like it will attack again, which allows the bee’s hive-mates more time to attack.

Skills: A bee has a +4 racial bonus on Spot checks and a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks. * It also gets a +4 bonus on Survival checks to orient itself.

A honeybee uses its Dexterity modifier instead of its Strength modifier on Climb checks. It can always choose to take 10 on a Climb check, even if rushed or threatened.
