First I'd like to say that my other foundation is still welcoming members. Second I am unsure if there are any foundations dedicated to Illithids but I wanted to start one.

The first request I have from anyone who wants to join is a Half-Illithid template. I would like it to be basically like half-celestials, half-fiends, half-dragons, etc. a template to show that the creature is an offspring of the base creature and an Illithid. I would like it to have tentacles and an extract ability most of all. This would of course make the result an abberation. i have no experience in the making of templates and therefore need this help.

Anything else Illithid related is welcome too.:D

Look in the Fiend Folio, it has the half-illithid template and even shows the secret information on how illithid's reproduce!

I would join, as I like the concept of brain-eating squids. but the whole 'no weapon or armor proficiency' Savage Species thing kind of kills it for me.

Glad to have you aboard mate!

Brain-Eating Intelligent Bipedal Squid With Hands appealed to me too.:D

I too shall join, for brains are full of juicy goodness. I have eaten the brains of many adventurers through my Monsters, and I have always secretly desired a place where this would not be frowned upon. Those who oppose us shall need to make many DC17 will saves.

I'd like to join. Any species with an average IQ of 210, thought reading and the ability to knock out people who **** you off with a psionic glare is fine by me. And if you follow it with vigorous brain eating (cooked medium-rare in butter sause), all the better.

(You can find out if annoying people's brains taste different from, like, other brains you may have ate recently.)

Hello, fellow brain connoisseurs--Jontg here, also known as :88E:Sassthmar, Eater of Thoughts:88E:. I'm actually not using my Illithid Psion at the moment, but my current character is based in Greyhawk, whereas Sassthmar is from the Realms--I'm also running an OA campaign with an Akutenshi sorcerer, but that's another story altogether!
P.S. I know that's not actually a mind flayer--I do read H.P. Lovecraft, after all--but one must admit, there's a resemblance!

I'd like to join up. And as an offering to the foundation, I'd like to say that Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook offers an excellent system for Psychic Abilities which I feel better simulates the feeling of 2nd edition AD&D Psionics then the new one: It's essentally a Feat and Skill system, where the raw talent is in a Feat and the stunts are in the Skills. Telepathy itself is a Feat, for exemple, which allows the Psychic to Mindread, Dominate, implant Suggestions or even perform Psychic Surgery on others by buying ranks in those Psychic Skills.

So, you could build an Illithid that's a master telepath -without- having to get high levels in a Psion class, simply by altering the basic Monster write up to replace it's Psionic abilities by bonus Psychich Feats and by using it's Skillpoints to buy Psychic Skills.

Thank God. My Gestalt Psion/Wizard/Epic Illithid Savant has had no place in the World as of yet.... And his Will Saves are at DC 32, so you know. He's slurping up Archmages, champions and Warlords 8 days a week, and actually has ranks in Profession (Brain-cooking) from his occupation. He rocks, especially now that he has multiple Major Artifacts at his disposal... But back to the point.

May I join up? If so, may I have a title?

I'd like to join your wonderful society. Muave, tentacle faced, brain eating aliens from the Astral Plane with psychic powers have been a passion of mine ever since I first saw the Mind Flayer in my 2nd Edition Monstrous Manual.

That almost reminds me of the old Lucasarts game "Day of the Tentacle" It's about 3 hours long if you know what you're doing, and it's fun.

But, anyway...:88E: :88E: :88E:
LONG LIVE IILITHIDS!!

What's my member number? Baneofkobolds, you, as founding member, should edit the first post and add all our names in order for our numbers :D :D

Oh, and one of my favorite illithid quirks was the keeping of intellect devourers, both as pets and occasional snacks:rofl:

In my home campaign, high-level Illithid psions have basically kidnapped an entire city (structures and all) and taken it to the Underdark, where they scour it looking for a powerful artifact that belonged to one of the city's archmages.

Kidnapped just a city? In my campaign, they send hundreds of inquisitions out into the planes to find the long-lost relics and artifacts of their ancient empire, before the times of Gith.

In fact, in my world, they arrived at this world in a gigantic spaceship, but much like the Elder Things of Cthulhian myth, slowly lost their technology. However, their psionics and magic remains. They then built their remembered empire in ademi-plane they themselves crafted. It is a legend among them.

One inquisition has found the remains of their ancient colossal craft. And they are slowly beginning to understand their race's history. :88E::88E::88E:

Uhhh, how about mind blank? :D ;) Let me be the first to welcome you to the new Guild House, or foundations board. All it costs to stay here is to send a magic item worth at least 20,000 GP to each of your GM's (me, sil and orcy) once per month.

Seriously: Welcome to the new board. You are now free of the shackles of having to stay on topic for the particular board you are in. Now you can role-play, discuss rules or just generally chat. Enjoy!

So, who here -hasn't- seen the new Psionic Illithid from the Expanded Psionics Handbook? They've just gotten even cooler.. Psionic Charm, Psionic Suggestion and Psionic Domination, Body Equilibrium, Body Adjustment, Psionic Dimension Door... The Psionic Illithid can do even more then the arcane version..

...And personally, I think the perfect Psionic Class for the Mind Flayers is the Erudite from Dragon #319; a class which explores the limits of psionic knowledge and mastery, without being biased towards one Discipline over another...

I do not think that they are worth a +7 LA, I give them a +4 or 5 (5 at the most).

A small group of figures enters the building the Illithids are gathered. They suddenly pull forth weapons and attack. It are the dreaded Illithids slayers from the psionics foundation. Some of the attackers are different and use psionics to attack. They are protected by strong psionics. But as always the Illithids gain the upper hand after extracting some brains and the attackers flee

Greetings,

As you can see i'am from the psionics foundation and ofcourse i have to hate and fear Illithids.

But i think our two foundations can build a nice synergy between them. On our foundation we are preparing defences against Illithids.
We have a lot in common, psionics.

Oh and to make certain this is clear, it is not my intention to start some flame war, just a little IC compentition and OOC thinking about psionics.
So i am looking foward to friendly OOC interaction and some fun IC.

Hope we all can have some fun

Sign me up, I love the brain-stealing monsters, with genetic experiments and stuff. Forward the reclamation of the Empire. Now to find a copy of the Illithiad.... And for those who want Cthulu, I'm putting an illithid savant through Darkhelms Dragon transformation (adventure I'm making-if I get some time- mainly to give the illithids life-shaping techniques, since it fits our methods), then if I buy him divine ranks....

A single scout from the psionics foundation silently sneaks into the Illithids foundation. He is send to check out the activity. It doesn't take him long to find out that since the recent attack there has been little activity. He wonders if the Illithids are brooding on soem devious plan to counter attack.

Greetings,

So nobody has read my earlier post, or nobody wants to respond.

I'am not that familiar with the Illithids. What is their history
Mindbreaker

06-22-04, 07:10 PM
:88E: Illithids have a long and ancient history. Before recorded times, the Illithids had a vast empire spanning across the E, A, I, planes and Toril (Prime Material Plane in FR) called Penumbra. It was broken by a slave uprising, helped by their newfound psionics and led by Gith, a githerzai/githyanki (before the race split) female slave champion. Some Illithids retreated underground, some other planes, and some other planets (via Nautiloids, Illithid spaceships). Some say Illithids came from The Void (space), some say another realm, some say they evolved, and some say Illsensine created them.:teach:

That seems to confirm the alien feel i always get from the Illithids. Me and my DM think they're cool, but that they're just to..alien for our campaign world.

On the post about the LA adjustment for the Illithids. I think they should have a relative high LA. They have an instant kill ability with the extract brain. In theory they could kill anything with a brain fast. This power should not be underestimated.

A deep green Illithid looking creature walks into the room. With a closer look, everyone realizes that the newcomer is not jsut any ordinary Illithid, but one of the most powerful half-Illithids of all time: the Son of Cthulhu.

All I have to say is that Illithids rule. Being able to dominate the minds of others and then eat out their brains are golden abilities. Sign me up.

I'm kinda new to DnD and Ihave no clue what Cthulhu is:embarrass
Son_Of_Cthulhu

07-03-04, 03:17 AM
To make this short, Cthulhu is an elder god in H P Lovecraft's story The Call of Cthulhu. Cthulhu was locked away underwater in some sort of coma effect, and the story says that he will one day "waken up" and call the other gods in order to destroy the world. Cthulhu is a giant greenish illithid-looking thing with wings and all.

As would I. The illithid have always fascinated me, and my teuthilid came from this. But, what shall we discuss? We need some good topics, and since the Psionics Foundation (which I am a member of) have been developing powers and feats to protect their brain, how about this?

Sthatchar, the teuthilid nomad, smiles as he scries on the escaping saboteur. He assumes his illithid guise as Psethyr, and procceeds to use his catapsi power to eliminate the mindleech threat. He sighs in the great underground hall of the illithid, he is pondering on how he will aid his brothers here. The members of the Psionics Guild are attacking the illithid. This must be stopped, for the illithid must live, for now. He smiles, as Dagon whispers in his ear, and he begins to write in his grimoire, devising plans and putting thought into text.

(An average looking-illithid walks into the guild room, accompanied by several slaves, and begins to communicate telipathicly.) <On behalf of the Psionics Foundation, I would like to apologize for the for their recent activities. The truth is, they are simply overwhelmed by our obvious supirior-> (the slaves and illithid begein to fliker and fade, leaving a somewhat starved looking illithid in their place. While three of this illithid's tentacles undulate, one hangs limp, a cruel lookins scar running up it, marking this illithid as an exile. A single thought emenates from this illithid before it teleports away. <Oh dear.>

I'm fairly new, and I would also like to know more about Cthulhu. Just from reading the boards I was under the impression that he was from a D&D comic. If I recal, I saw a quote in someones sig that went something like this:

Name I can't remember: Cthulhu, What are you doing out? Get back in your fishbowl.
Cthulhu: No, no more fishbowls.
Name I can't remember: Cthulhu, is something wrong?

Anyone have any idea what this means? Also will someone tell me what "Iä iä! Cthulhu Fthang!!" means?
Silvanus

An extremely well-dressed human walks in, looking around cautiously. "While it should be obvious from my appearance that I am not, in fact, a mind flayer, I consider myself a scholar of your race. I hope you won't mind if I drop in occasionally."

Cthulhu is from a set of books by (mostly) H.P Lovecraft. They're basically horror stories (they gave me the creeps, anyway) with strong elements of fantasy/sci-fi. Cthulhu has been referenced in several comics, I believe, but that wasn't his origin. I myself was unaware of the connection between Cthulhu and mind flayers- I thought of him as more of a giant toad.
