Hey everyone. I noticed that the classes guilds here were a bit heavy on the magic side, so I decided to balance things out a bit by introducing a new thread.

Welcome to the Mundanes' Guild, the guild for everyone who relies on a strong sword arm and quick wits, rather than on earth shattering magics. (I mean mundane simply as neither arcane, devine nor psionic, not in its derogatory sense as boring or un-interesting.) I envision this as the place for any character class who never has and never will receive caster levels, such as fighters, rogues, and barbarians. Anything to do with the mundane aspect of the gameworld, such as warfare, thievery, trading, etc. is welcome here. There will be chapters set up for all the mundane classes, such as fighters, rogues, barbarians, etc. As always, discussion should be in black, and role-play should be in red. A few guidelines, though.
*As stated previously, all discussion of mundane classes (those without caster levels ie. wizards and priests) are welcome.
*Aspects of the mundane world ie. not dealing with massive amounts of magic are also welcome. It doesn't have to be completely mundane, though. For example, discussion of how a merchant would set up a caravan, with some assistance from magic would be welcome, but please no discussions of trans-planer trading guilds or the creative uses of teleport or gate for mercantile purposes.
*Discussions of elves, dwarves and orcs, and other races not inherently magical ie. not having supernatural, spell-like or psionic abilities are welcome, as long as it doesn't have to do with, for example, elven magic. Also, the races under discussion must also interact significantly with the mundane human world, eg. elves are fine, but please no drow (while they do sometimes raid human settlements, they don't interact enough with humans to warrent being included).
*I'm envisioning eventually having this guild be a place where we examine and discuss the ways in which the mundane world operates, especially where it intersects with the magical or divine worlds. (otherwise it would be a medieval history thread, which wouldn't be bad, but would no longer really be DnD)
*No flame wars with the arcane guilds, for they have ready access to meteor swarm. :P

Recruitment...... it is a word that brings both terror and excitement to the minds of the common person. For a magus, it is simply a word that brings to mind a temporary reprieve from terrible loneliness, discussing esoteric details of magic craft with his fellows. For the cleric, it is a non-word, for she is such a part of the clerical world that she feels that she was born into it..... for the common person, though, recruitment is a word that brings with it the promise of an escape from drudgery and entry into a path of glory, excitement and untold wealth.....

Somewhere on Oearth..... in the Flanness.... a young peasant is bored and dissatisfied with his daily toil. Suddenly, a recruiting party stops for a while in his village. The recruiting sergeant barely needs to give his spiel about service to crown and country, before the young peasant eagerly signs up, his head full of images of valorous knights, the excitement of battle and of course, retiring wealthy and famous. Little does the young man know that he will spend the rest of his life cold, wet, and hungry, not knowing if today will be the day an orcish spear buries itself in his guts........

Somewhere else on Oearth...... a young woman, born broke, living in poverty on the streets of the city, is tired of the prospect of missing a meal yet again...... she sees a merchant stroll by, his purse full of coin. Desperate, she takes her knife, and with a grace and stealth that surprises even her, she cuts the purse without the merchant even knowing it, and snatchs some silver coins. Later, while celebrating her success at the tavern, a young man approachs her. She knows of him, he always seems to have a ready supply of coins to spend, and always wears clothing that seems outlandishly expensive to her. He tells her that he was impressed by her performance in cutting the merchant's purse, and that the thieves' guild could use someone like her. When he tells her that he was once like her, a guttersnipe, and that he found his fortune in the guild, she eagerly agrees to join. What he didn't tell her was of the times he almost was caught, and the men he had to kill........

Somewhere in the north of the Flanness....... many barbarian tribes have gathered to hear a great warrior speak. He recounts the monsters he slew, the treasure he won in battle, and how he gave the plunder he won to the warriors following him. He tells them that even now, the soft kingdoms to the south plan on turning the brave young warriors of these tribes into slaves, tilling the earth in order to eat grass instead of hunting. He asks them if there are any amoung them brave enough to follow him south, and win treasure and fame from the kingdoms there in glorious battle. Many young barbarians are whipped into a frenzy by the great warrior's words, and rush towards him in order to join his band and win names for themselves.......

Recruitment...... its everywhere.....

This is just a bit of friendly advise from one threadkeeper to another. Post a few rules, and guidlines, they help in preventing problems before they start. Have a member list, so that you can keep track of who is a member, and most importantly, proudly advertise this guild in your sig, preferably with a hyperlink.

A young looking red dragon looks in. "Ah, just getting starte, eh? I remember when I started out, it took a while for members to come along. Don't lose hope, they will come. They always do. Good luck." After the dragon says this, he vanishes

Thanks for the advice, Sssargoth. :)

The guildmaster of the Mundanes' guild, a non-descript human, thanks the dragon for the kind words, and is glad that he didn't become the dragon's next meal. ;)
