Orcy The Green Wonder

Nestled in a rocky valley sits a huge structure of stone and wood. The great building is covered with artwork depicting Orcish figures in thick robes with long flowing manes of neatly-kept hair. Pillars stand on either side of large stone stairs that lead to the entrance. There, the traveler is met by large draped animal hides serving as an entryway and curtain to the inside of the building. As one walks the stairs they pass by many statues of finely dressed and powerful orcs weilding ornate weapons and wearing well made armor. These statues look down upon the stairs and out over the valley with proud and regal expressions.

Inside, the walls are decorated with carvings, some old and some newer, cruder markings along with them. Tapestries hang over the walls, the tops of which are decorated as elaborately as much else, depicting great and handsome orc and half orc warriors. However, lower down the tapestries are torn and some have had crude paintings placed over their original artwork. Following a carpet that has seen far too much use for it's own good, one comes to a large meeting hall. Rough hewn tables and benches fill the room. At eat of these tables sits Orcs and half orcs of all kinds, eating and speaking in their own tounge. Most are clad in rough armor and dirty hides, though some have made an effort to appear more regal and powerful. Sitting in a seat of honor, a large table set with animals of all sorts, is a powerfully built orc. His frame is bent with age and his hair is white with streaks of black hair remaining here and there.

Standing slowly, he steps forward and raises his arms into the air. Instantly the room begins to quiet, a few orcs of red coloring making jokes until the glares of their bretheren silence them. Clearing his throat the old orc bows to the others in the room. Standing and placing his fist over his heart his voice booms with power despite his age.
"I, Dul Gar, Son of Dul Grek, Combiner of the hordes, welcome you to these ancient halls. In this place, we the Orcish people, who at one time ruled this land with courage and spirit that no human can match! We, the Orcish people, gather to grow stronger, to reclaim our birthright! Here we come to teach the world that we are not simple brutes, but that we are a noble race of warriors! Eat, and speak. Teach your brothers and share your stories. Tell your brothers and sisters of the past, of the present, and what hopes for the future you may hold. For united in our goal, we shall regain the respect and power that is ours by birth!"

This foundation is dedicated to Orcs and Orc-related material. Orcy names it Orc-Kin because here we welcome those of any Orcish descendance. We also welcome goblinoids and ogres as well, since they are brothers in that which they have suffered. Any material related to these "Orc-Kin" races is welcome here, as is any roleplay or discussion on the topic. Feel free to post anything that relates to this topic.

Orcy hates to create a new orc foundation, but it seems the half- section of the Half-Orc foundation's title throws a few off. So he has opted to change the name but leaves the member list of the half orc foundation here out of respect to those orcs and half orcs that have come before.

Orcy will kick things off with his Blood Orcs... Orcs from his world of Ogbanar.

Blood Orc

- History: The orcs of the Black Forest were once a powerful force. However, with the coming of man they lost more and more territory, being forced to retreat into their forest beneath the thick and dark canopy of their home. There, they gathered in a great meeting to decide what was to be done about their problems. They knew that soon their people would not be able to hold out against the human threat, and threats from the rest of the world. None are quite sure who first suggested the idea, but one of the captive humans carried with him a book of rituals. From this book they spoke the ritual, sacrificing the man to the demon threat, and with his final drop of blood... the Orcs were transformed. Their bodies growing more hearty and their minds growing sharper. These orcs were forever tainted, causing their skin to turn blood red. From then on, Blood Orcs have come to make it their business to rule over other orcs.
- Personality: Blood Orcs are extremely arrogant and believe themselves to be superior to all other creatures, being 'touched by the great masters' as they call themselves. Blood Orcs believe they are the rulers of the orcish race and demand to be treated as such by their bretheren. They are however, more cunning than other orcs, and are not as reckless.
- Physical Description: Blood Orcs are typically blood red in color though their shade varies a bit between darker and lighter reds. They are about the same size as other orcs, but a bit taller, and slightly bulkier. Their tusks and fingernails are a black color, and their tusks sometimes bear red markings. This is usually seen as a sign of importance.
- Relations: Blood Orcs believe they are superior to the other races of the world and act as such. Often treating others as lesser beings and owning as many slaves as they can afford to keep with them. They don't care much for divine casters, seeing them as servants of their lord's enemies. They see the more mundane classes as tools to use so that their will shall be done.
- Alignment: Blood Orcs are almost always Lawful Evil, this fits their dominating personalities.
- Blood Orc Lands: Blood Orcs live in the Black Forest (now called the Blood Orc Forest). A dark forest with a canopy so thick it gets pitch black during most times of the day and night.
- Languages: Common, Orc, and more intelligent blood orcs often speak Infernal and Abyssal.
- Names: As orcs.
- Adventurers: Blood Orcs often adventure to prove their dominance over others. They seek slaves in their travels so that they can return home with many slaves, proving their dominance over others. This gains them a higher rank in Blood Orc society.

Blood Orc Racial Traits
- Ability Scores: +2 Strength, +4 Con, +2 Wis
- Medium: As medium humanoids, Blood Orcs have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
- Speed: A Blood Orc's base land speed is 30 ft.
- Darkvision: Blood Orcs have darkvision out to 60 feet.
- Dark Blood: A Blood Orc's demonic or devlish heritage (none know which and indeed they seem to be varied) gives them fire resistance equal to their Hit Dice.
- Flames of Hell: A Blood Orc's fiendish bloodline allows it to bring fires from within itself. Once per day it can summon from the fire of it's blood and hurl it upon an enemy. This ability works as a produce flame spell with a caster level equal to his/her HD.
- Languages: Automatic Languages: Orcish; Bonus Languages: Infernal, Abyssal
- Favored Class: Male: Barbarian
- Level Adjustment: +2

Request to join.

Just a thought: Would it unbalance Blood Orcs to remove the maximum limit of 5 on their fire resistance? It would only be able to get up to Fire Resistance 20 at 20th-level, which isn't really all that high. Especially considering their LA +2....

You are on the list.

Orcy doesn't know if it would be a good thing to increase their fire resistance. They already have very favorable ability modifiers and a few other abilities, it might tip them a bit further up the LA scale to increase their fire resistance. Orcy would be interested to hear what others might have to say on the matter.

Looking at the Savage Species discussion on energy resistance and ECL, a single resistance of up to 20 would be fine. If you want a reason to trust Savage Species, the rules in it still work well with determining things like this.

Mixed with a little common sense, anyway, it's a good rough guide. Some of the ratings it gives are a good bit off in my opinion. The problem being, I'd say, that the higher the LA is pushed the more it should take to push it up another point. And by association, the less certain things should affect the overall rating.

As a specific example, Azers are rated with too high of an LA for what they get. By +2-3 as I recall.

But that's similar to second edition's penchant for punishing players for doing anything outside the norm.

Thanks to this (http://goblinscomic.com/) comic, I have the sudden urge to play a Goblin character. So, expect some Goblin-specific material in the near future (assuming I ever actually get around to all these "near future" plans that I keep making).

Yes, Goblins is a great comic that Orcy, to the suprise of none he would imagine, reads regularly. Good to see us 'savage races' as stars and whatnot rather than the great heroes who kill all the low level savages.

Don't forget the kobolds. They have to be the most underestimated race in the entire monster manuel.

Orcy isn't sure if it is balanced yet... but heres a PrC he has been thinking of for Orcs.

Orcish Bowbreaker
The elves made their way toward the border of the forest swiftly and silently. They were trained in the defese of their home, and a scout had recently reported a pair of orcs making their way through the forest and heading straight toward the hidden elven village. Coming to a clearing the elves new well, they spotted an orc standing out in the open, leaning on an axe.

Removing their bows the elves took aim and fired upon the orc, a number of arrows came down upon him but the orc, while startled, didn't seem phased in the least. Hefting his axe and roaring angrily the orc charged blindly toward the position of the elves, bursting through their bushy cover he started swining. The elves of course, were well trained, moving away and firing upon the orc with their bows. However he either blocked the arrow or seemed unphased by the attacks. In fact, everytime he blocked an attack he moved swiftly to close the gap between him and the archer that had fired.

The orc's axe bit home again and again, felling a number of the elves. Their leader dropped his bow quickly, drawing his fine blades and lunging at the powerful orc. Swinging his swords about with style and finesse he met the orc's barbaric strikes. Cutting into the orc's flesh with his swords seemed to harm the beast much more than their arrows. Finally, the orc fell to the ground. The elves stabbed him repeatedly to ensure that he was indeed dead. As the elves panted and tried to regain their breath the leader checked the orc over. It wasn't until they heard the twig snap that they remembered the scouts had reported two orcs.

Requirements:
Race: Orc or Half Orc
Base Attack Bonus: +5
Feats: Deflect Arrows or Block Arrow, Weapon Focus (any melee)
Skills: Intimidate 4 ranks
Special: Fast Movement class skill

Hit Die: d12

BAB Fort Ref Will Special
1. +1 +2 +2 +0 Try It!
2. +2 +3 +3 +0 Is that it!?
3. +3 +3 +3 +1 Cowards!
4. +4 +4 +4 +1 No pain!
5. +5 +4 +5 +1 Get back here!

Class Skills:
Climb (str), Craft (int), Handle Animal (cha), Intimidate (cha), Jump (str), Listen (wis), Profession (wis), Ride (dex), Spot (wis), Survival (wis), Swim (str).
Skill points: 2+int mod

Class Features:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Orcish Bowbreaker gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Try it!:
The orcish bowbreaker may use his deflect arrows or block arrow feat an additional number of times per round equal to half his class level (rounded down and at least once).

Is that it!?:
Through intensive training, typically involving crude arrows and plenty of wounds, the bowbreaker's skin becomes very resistant to all but the most deadly ranged weapons. At level 2 he gains Damage Reduction 5/- against ranged weapons only (this does not count melee weapons that can be thrown that are used in melee).

Cowards!:
The bowbreaker's training has advanced to a point at which he knows the workings of the body when using ranged weapons. Because of this, he can place devistating blows on those using ranged weaponry. When attacking an enemy in melee who is weilding a ranged weapon (this does not count melee weapons that can be thrown that are used in melee) he gains a bonus to the attack and damage rolls equal to his class level. This ability does not work on creatures immune to critical hits.

No pain!:
Because of his intense training, the bowbreaker's skin is even more resistant to damage by ranged attacks. Once he reaches level four his damage reduction improves to 10/- against ranged attacks of all types. In addition, the bowbreaker may use his delfect arrows or arrow block ability against a ranged touch spell once per round.

Get back here!:
The bowbreaker has learned to take the time between an archer's shots to move closer. If he readies a move action anytime before his next turn, after using his deflect arrows or block arrow feat he may move up to half his speed toward the attacker. He may do this each time he uses deflect arrows or block arrow before his next turn, and immediately after the attack.

In addition, whenever he threatens an enemy who weilds a ranged weapon at the begining of his turn he treats that enemy as threatened until his next turn. He may also take a five foot step before taking an attack of opportunity on this target. For example: An Orcish Bowbreaker threatens an elven ranger at the begining of his turn. The elf takes a five foot step away from the bowbreaker and fires an arrow. Since this provokes an attack of opportunity, the bowbreaker may take a five foot step to place himself next to the ranger before taking his attack of opportunity against him. This ability only functions if the bowbreaker is currently benefiting from his Fast Movement ability.

Ok...

Requirements: Combat Reflexes shoulb be a definate Requirement. Multiple AoOs against archers in melee would be a must.
- Try It!: I think you mean per Round, but reasonable.
- Is that it!? and No Pain!: DR 10/adamantine would put it above and beyond (magic arrows are easier to come by than adamantine ones) a Protection From Arrows spell (equivalent of a 12,000 gp item; compared to the normal 19k starting GP a 7th level character has). Should be lessened to DR 5/- against all ranged weapons and then DR 10/- against all ranged weapons (basically negating normal damage from most Longbows and Shortbows with an enhancement of +2 or lower).
- Cowards!: I like the ability but I have to add in my few thoughts of course. Instead of double damage it should be Attack and Damage bonus on AoOs against those wielding ranged weapons equal to class level with no AC penalty. It is quite reaonable, you are able to strike more precisely and hard yet you don't let up your own guard.
- Get Back Here!: I like.

I wanna add a feat that I thought of while typing this.

Arrow Guard [General]
You are adept at blocking incoming ranged attacks targetting your allies.
Prerequisites: Base Attack Bonus +4, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows
Benefit: As long as an ally is adjacent to you, you can utilize your Deflect Arrows feat to block any ranged attack targetting them. This counts as a use of your Deflect Arrows feat for the round. Additional you can perform your Deflect Arrows ability 1 additional time per round.
Special: This feat can be taken as a Fighter Bonus Feat.

Hmm... Very good class and races. Thoough I'd like to add that a fire resitence of 1 per HD is a bit too few. you should just give him fire resistance 5, or don't put a maximum.
turalisj

03-30-07, 05:25 PM
If not for the fact that it is overspecialised, I would have called it as overpowered. For 5 mesely levels, you become the greatest weapon against archers.

The fluff for some of the stuff makes no sense. Like for Cowards!, it states you know how an archer uses his ranged weapon. Ok, I know how a soldier uses a gun, does that mean I can stab a person accuratly enough to impair his aiming?

Just my 2cp

It isn't about knowing HOW they use their weapon. It is about knowing how their body works when they're using the weapon. If you are aware where the muscles are the most stressed, or if you are aware where an archer is more vulnerable when firing his bow... you can strike a more dangerous blow.
NightScreamer20

03-31-07, 02:12 AM
Good PEACHing Turalisj, an inspiration for all of us. Firing a gun and a bow are COMPLETELY different. A Bow requires you to notch the arrows, pulls the string, hold your bow steady and fire, requiring the use of most if not all, your upper body. Orcy's point is, knowing what muscles you are utilizing and your stances for firing a bow, he can place his strikes into unguarded areas of your anatomy, much like that of a Critical. although I believe, myself, the ability requires revision being that x2 damage is too extreme for the situation, the basic principal is the same.... not to mention the 'impair his aiming' thats not even part of the ability...

Orcy has made a few modifications to the PrC. It should be a bit better balanced now. As well... he has removed the limit posted on the blood orc's resistance.

Somewhere in Tyrannor...

A pair of elves come stumbling through a portal. They carry with them a number of trinkets, taken from the corpses of orcish travelers.
"Hah, those filthy beasts didn't put up as much of a fight as I'd thought they would. Though that young one had a hell of a right hook. I think it was angry that it's beast mother fell in battle to an elf! Hah! Those filthy piggarts."
"These objects should be enough to pay for some of the damage the filthy things did in their raids last year. Of course... we killed those orcs, but they're all the same. I think I'll buy my wife a new dr-"
The elfs turn and stare at the portal, rather shocked to see that it is still open.
"Shouldn't that thing close once the last of us was through it?"
"Yeah... unless... we weren't the last ones to enter."
The elves drop their raided spoils and draw bows as a large, aged orc leaps through the portal. Swinging a chain edged with wicked barbs he charges the two elves, striking wildly. Behind him more orcs step through, many more. The lead orc and his retinue make quick work of the pair as many more come through the portal.

The orc looks around his surroundings when his rage has worn itself down. Kicking the body of one of the elves off of some of their ill-gotten goods and cleaning off what was once an orc child's toy.
"Filthy elves. What place is this that they've fled to... this... strange land?"
An orc woman clad in black leather and a veil approaches. She bows to the larger, older orc and waits for his nod to speak.
"Lord Dul-Gar, I will take the scouts and see what we can find of this place. We will return tonight with our report."
The elder orc nods and waves a hand, she silently bows and slips away quickly and quietly. Hefting the body of one of the elves the orc takes a spear and sets it into the ground. Thrusting the elven body onto the weapon he completes his gruesome standard and turns.
"Set up camp! We await the reports of the scouts. Be ready, there may be elves in this land who wouldn't think twice about attacking us. Make your spear your mate tonight and keep one eye open!"

A ghostly elven figure floated from the ground below, looking around at the mess. Such a mess you orcs have made here. No, no, I'm not here to fight, so put down those weapons. Allow me to be the first one to introduce you to the lands. I am Zik Flamewaver, archamge of Serpents, member of the Elven Foundation and Merchants Guild. You'll find there are a great deal more elves here than orcs, although not all of them are looking for a fight. If you need a medium between your people and those who would seek your destruction, just stomp your foot, I honestly no no where else to be. Zik floated back downwards, dissapearing in the earth.

"They elves infest this land so badly their ghosts live in the very ground! Double watch tonight... I don't want those filthy pointy ears coming on us unaware. I've seen enough elven tricks to know that ghosts just don't lurk in the ground of fields. Unless this was the site of some great battle... but I see no signs of that! Sometimes I wonder if elves ever learn the proper way to greet someone... instead of poping out from behind trees or.. other places and shouting things. You'd think with a hundred years of childhood they'd be more mature! Stop listening to me and get to work!"
turalisj

04-02-07, 12:25 AM
Zik reapeared, this time garbed in his Archmages outfit. Look you stubbrn orc, and I mean that in the most literral way, I didn't come here to start a fight. I came here, peacefully, to welcome you to these lands. A word of warning, sticking to racial stereotypes while around the more powerfull denziens of this land will get you killed and fast. Now, if you excuse me, there seems to calamari being serving on an island nearby. He vanished once more, serpents crawling up his body and wrapping around him, then dispersing with no sight of him.

"Hah! An ELF talking about racial steryotyping! Elves have insulted and killed our people for generation after generation because we are orcs. They feel themselves better, despite knowing that we orcs once ruled the world. Or at least, our world. Fool elves. Arrogant and proud. They come and think they can opress our people... they learn too late that they can't. I've nothing against the elves of this land... yet. Despite the fact that two of their kind killed some of my people. No... not against them all... but if the rest prove to be as foolish... there is nowhere they can hide."

A snake pokes his head out of the ground and watches the orc, two sapphires for eyes glinting in the moonlight.
