| Anaxim08-29-07, 11:21 AM | I was having a browse through UA yesterday and today and ran across 2 rules that don't fit too well for me. Level Adjustment Decrease is one of them. In my campaign, the char start at level 10 and my Goliath (Races of Stone) has an LA of +1, but I decided to take an approach of "She starts 3000 XP behind everyone, but at level 10". This makes sense with the normal system, yes. Now the second rule, that doesn't fit with the above, at all: Level-Independent XP Awards. The tables show much higher goals, and award much more XP. How do I transform the LA Decrease rule to fit the Level-Independent XP table and awards? Thanks in advance for the answer. EDIT: Figured it out, it as per ECL in accordance to class levels, but the trick is to cover the distance from the level in the same formula. Instead of lower ECL by 1 and multiply by 1000, add all extra distance from level to level. I.e: This makes 3rd class level with LA+1 and no racial HD be: 4 ECL, 1000 for level 1 to 2, this will be base; 2000 from level 2 to 3, (1000 already got, another 2000 to go) which means the added distance is 1000; Now 3 to 4 would be 3000 (3000 to 6000 is 3000) This means the added distance is 2000; This makes 1000+2000=3000, LA buyout for +1. 6th for LA+2 with no racial HD, first deduction, would make: 8 ECL, We'll start counting from 4 to 5; 4 to 5 is 4000 (You should trust me now), which makes 3000; 5 to 6 is 6000, which makes 5000; 6 to 7 is 8000, which makes 7000; 7 to 8 is 12000, which makes 11000; 3000 (from old one), 3000+3000+5000+7000+11000=29000, LA buyout for first bonus from +2. Now a small comparison - EXP for 8th level in PHB: 28000; EXP for 8th level in UA new system: 36000. The difference is 8000. I could be wrong, but this is the most likely way I see. EDIT 2: Disregard the above method, I was wrong. I just now understood how the orig LA buyout worked. Originally it was always 1000 in between level, but in the new system, the difference grows after a certain level. I made a new analysis. ECL 4 for LA+1 with no racial HD is still 3000, since level 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 are still 1000 apart each time. Still 6K EXP for level 4. ECL 8 for LA+2 with no racial HD is now 13000 instead of 7000. Counting from level 4, we already have 3000. Now we do something like this. 4 to 5 makes another increase in 1000, still 10000 to 5; 5 to 6 we get a jump, 16K instead of 15K, making the new difference suddenly 2000; 6 to 7 makes another 2K difference, as we have 8000 to next level now; We are already up to 9000 now, keep up with me; Suddenly, 7 to 8 is a whopping 12K, so that's a 4K difference, making the LA buyout a whopping 6K more then normal. This is better then the above though, isn't it? Also makes sense. Note the difference between PHB and UA level 8 EXP is 8000, and the difference between the buyout is 6000, you technically just won 2000 free EXP. Hope this helps anyone. |

About what you suggested, there seem to be no direct calculus to take into account...
