| Prime3202-04-08, 01:16 PM | I've been meaning to post this for ages, but kept putting it off. Ahem. In the current gestalt system, there are massive disparities in power between the various combinations - fighter//barbarian is a joke compared to monk//druid. I aim to remedy that. Similar to my demiclass system used in this (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D972406) thread, I suggest that you see the barbarian, for instance, not as "d12 HD, good Fort saves", but, using the commoner class as a base, as "+d8 HD, +2 skill points, +1 good save". Now, a knight//barbarian has d20 Hit Dice(!), while the wizard//barbarian has "only" a d12. Poor saves for formerly "suboptimal" combinations are less of a problem, as if two classes boost the same save, you can select a second save to increase to the good progression. BAB can increase beyond its normal limits, with a two-martial gestalt gaining +2 BAB per level (but still gaining additional attacks at the rate of a +1 BAB character). As for rogue//ninja, the +20d6 sneak attack issue is up to you - I would suggest accumulation as normal, but only allowing the character to use +1d6 per two character levels (so that if they switch to another class, they will continue to gain access to more of their sneak attack) |

All HD become D12s automatically when you're undead, so by your rules they get d20HD. Whee. Also, all good saves. Not to mention the fact that Warblade//Crusader is already an awesome gestalt combo. No no no. JaronK |

Also, all good saves. Well, I don't think it's fair to apply the boost to both sides - just d12//d4, resulting in d12. Not to mention the fact that Warblade//Crusader is already an awesome gestalt combo. Can it beat monk//druid or swordsage//druid? |

As written, it would be d12//d12. Can it beat monk//druid or swordsage//druid? No, not really. But it can smash almost anything else that's not a full caster. The problem here is you've just buffed up everyone else without slowing down the big builds at all. It means a ton of raw power available to everyone... which may not be what you want. JaronK |

A wizard/cleric or a barbarian/wizard that uses their abilities is better than a wizard/warblade that only casts spells, but wants a god fort and d12 hit die. |
| navar10002-05-08, 09:42 PM | That some gestalt combinations are better than others is a feature, not a bug. Gestalt doesn't need "fixing". Personally I find a fighter-barbarian to be quite fine. The barbarian in him gets all those juicy feats to synergize with rage. The fighter in him gets rage and the skill points and class skills. Mileage varies on whether he wants heavy armor or the fast movement. If allowed, Lion Totem for Pounce instead for the win. Crusader-Warblade for the jackpot, definitely. |

That sounds a strange lot like my custom Psychen Lifecaster class, and you wouldn't even have to go Gestalt for it. >.> |
