| Commander of Chaos07-26-04, 12:57 PM | I've been working on a prestige for a while now. Battle Mage is the name I've given to it. All i know about what I want to happen is that the class require casting prowess and get some fighting capabilities. So far I've gotten two main suggestions. One is that the class focus entirely on evocation, somewhat ignoring fighting but getting better DC for evocation. The other idea is that the class get a magically produced blade. Similar to the blade of the soulknife, but a longsword. With this idea i was thinking it get something like the class in the oriental adventures that lets you add your wisdom to attack and damage, but int or cha instead. Any ideas. We just had a TPK and I need the class to present to the DM now. Thanks for the imput. |

Do you have an overall level limit (i.e. 5 levels or 10 levels)? What other abilities do you have in mind for this new prestige class? Such as HD, BAB, Saves, etc. Or are these some of the things you're looking for help with? |

Then it gets +1 DC to evocation at levels 1,4,7,10. Then at 3, 8 it gets spell penetration and greater spell penetration. No real ideas for the other. |
| Bard-of-all-trades07-27-04, 02:20 PM | Well I'm not entirely sure how you want to work this Battle Mage prestige class but here are a couple ideas you might find interesting ... To hold with the battle aspect of the Battle Mage, you also might want to: - have full attack bonus at each level. - have d6 for HD per level. - have good saves for fortitude and will. - add the benefit of ignoring a certain percent of arcane spell failure for casting in light armor (see the Battle Sorcerer in Unearthed Arcana). - add a new level of spell casting at every EVEN level of the prestige class or two levels every three (i.e. 0 @ 1st, +1 lvl @ 2nd, +1 lvl @3rd, 0 @ 4th, etc.). You should have a fairly focused set of prerequisites for this prestige class to set it apart from others. Like: +5 Base Attack Cast level 3 Arcane spells Spell Focus/Evocation Martial Weapon proficiency These prerequisites would make the character multiclass at least one level into fighter and have to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 7th to 10th level before being eligible for this prestige class. And, if you incorporate the advantages you've already listed at the levels you mentioned, this could be a real nasty prestige class. Hope this is what you were looking for. |
