Action Point Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-11-04, 08:44 AM I have an idea for action points. Instead of giving them 5+1/2 character level, how about giving them 1 per 5 levels, and they recharge every day. Does this seem fair? This way that can be crazy and stupid everyday. :D

03-11-04, 11:33 AM Every day seems a bit much. Recharging per "adventure" (however long the DM determines that is) wouldn't be out of line. That's how Spycraft does their Action Dice--a farily similar mechanic.

In my games players fotget that they have action points until they level up so as a result they end up with a whole bunch of points that they never use! And from what I have heard I dont think that would be really nessaceary. second I've found this to be true as well.
In a d20 Modern Campaign I was in for a few months none of us ever used the action points, when we ended I believe my character had upwards of 30.

I presented two ideas I wanted playtested to the DM Action Points and Gestalt class characters.
I wanted to see if Gestalts were that over powered. The DM decided that he would use Action points closer to how Starwars uses Force points, you acumulate every level but you also gain them for heroic actions.

Thats not a bad method, makes me think... But I think my players will be aware because the enemies will have them too. I believe in equal power for all, PCs and BBEG. :schemes:

Minions shouldn't have any because they are minions but I agree BBEGs should have some AP's if the players do.
