| Vacerious08-02-05, 07:14 PM | hey everyone, i was thinking about implementing a character's alignment into how well they are liked in a town. here's what i was thinking: *presume Bob the Barbarian is CE. Bob's party has walked into a LG town to look for work. *after having his bowl of babies for breakfast, Bob realizes he needs to enchant his greataxe to +1. *when Bob goes to the smithy/enchanter, the smithy charges him 3,000 gp instead of 2000 gp because of Bob's alignment (i.e. the smithy doesn't trust the CE barbarain with such a powerful weapon.) *Bob gets angry and slaughter's said smithy, forcing his party to flee the city. *Next Bob's party comes across an LE city. when Bob goes the smithy here, he charges Bob the regular price (2000 gp) to enchant his greataxe because he sees eye-to-eye with Bob's previous situation (their alignments are similar.) does anybody know of any variants that work like this or any ways i could refine this? btw, this variant applies to all alignments, so a paladin in a LE city will be charged more for items. -------edit------- also, how can i make this to where it is not gimped towards naturally chaotic classes/races (i.e. orcs, bards, rogues, etc.)? |

Since PCs and NPCs don't walk aroudn with name tags that read Hello, My name is Bob the Chatoic Evil Baby Eater I have more to comment on, but like... your style of play at least in this reduced example seems really juvenile... so hopefully you were just being hyperbolic with that example. Otherwise, I have no experience with baby-eating campaigns and players that kill blacksmiths over a high price quote. We tend to have a bit more maturity in our games. |

| Vaalingrade Ashland08-03-05, 04:20 PM | I think you fail to grasp what alignment is, Vacerious. *after having his bowl of babies for breakfast, Bob realizes he needs to enchant his greataxe to +1. *Bob gets angry and slaughter's said smithy, forcing his party to flee the city. The prosecution rests. Not everyone in a city is the same alignment and even if they were, they couldn't tell by looking. Further, its bad buisness to raise the price on a valuable, but limited demand item like magic for something so frivlous. |
| Seraph of Babel08-03-05, 11:54 PM | Basing it on alignment is not so fesible since most people cannot detect alignment like a paladin or spellcaster. Reputation (famous/infamous) might be a better measure. Alternatively, look at Ravenloft PHB/DMG for Outcast Rating, which is based off race (or class). A elven purist/racist community probably charges more for a human or a half-elf. This of course does not apply if the race (or class) is not recognized due to disguise, alter self, or somehow concealed. d20 Bestiary of Krynn also has something similiar called Acceptance. |
