Koga:The ninja trick

After observing incantations as expressed in unearthed arcana, this would seem perfect for how to finnaly make the classes balanced to a large extent. They still have spells per day, but they must follow the requirements to do said spell, and must make a dice-check equal to 10+ the spell's level inorder to succesfuly cast it. Though it would take some time to give every spell an appropiate drawback, the main just of this lower magick style is given..

Rangers/Paladins:
The Koga personaly believes they shouldn't have spells and drops thier ability to cast incantations in favour of hit die d10 for ranger and double the smite evils for the paladin.

The Sorcerer:
To keepup with the wizard, cleric, and druid, he needs something more. So hit hit die is changed to d8, he gets intimidate as a class skill, he gains +1 of every spell known, and maximum spell-per-day.

Mind you this is only a theory, havn't applied this to any real games yet. Just an idea The Koga is throwing out there..
