Androgynous Trait (Need Help Please!) [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-21-07, 10:31 PM I am trying to figure out mechanically a balanced androgynous trait. Here is what I have so far:

Androgynous
You are neither overly masculine or feminine and are often confused with being either gender.
Benefit: You do not take the normal -2 penalty for Disguise checks when attempting to disguise yourself as the opposite gender.
Penalty: ?

I was also wondering if it would affect the ability to use Charisma based skills with an emphasis on seduction or charming with people not normally attracted to your base sex, like a androgynous guy trying to charm a straight male.

Help?

05-21-07, 10:41 PM Penalties for androgyny? Maybe a penalty for undisguised seduction because you naturally have features of both genders. Meaning you need to be in disguise to properly seduce people. I dunno, just a suggestion.

EDIT: Well, regular genders suffer a -2 penalty to disguise themselves as members of a different gender. I guess that counts as a "mechanic".

05-22-07, 03:17 AM Make it a circumstance penalty. It usually applies, but there are many people who don't care about it, like elves or lizardfolks.

05-22-07, 09:12 AM Yeah, this'd be a very circumstantial thing. Some races are pretty androgynous by default, and wouldn't really care for the difference very much. They'd probably be better at noticing it, too.

05-31-07, 02:01 PM It is about eliminating a penalty to a single Stat's Skill, just add a like penalty to a few of the other Skills of that Stat. Seducing someone would be harder if they 'don't swing that way' or are looking for a dominate sexuality (A he-man or Boopsy). But with a cosmopolitan, multi-race world to play in...?

Yeah, I bet that the party will meet V's spouse and it will answer no questions. The alternative is that Pompey is V's son, they never met during the Cliffport story arc, and since Pompey's a half-elf meeting V's spouse would answer too many questions.
