Angelic Monks

Monks are proficient with all available weapons. Classic weapons include the long sword, spear, and long bow.

Monks are proficient with shields but can only use light armor. The monk may add his Wisdom to his AC.

Monks no longer get an AC bonus for leveling up.

The monk’s base attack is replaced by the Unarmed Attack Bonus for all attacks except for archery.

The monk’s unarmed damage bonus starts at 1d6 and improves by 1 die at levels 6, 11, 16, and 20.

The monk’s speed bonus only applies while not wearing armor.

The monk’s special hand to hand attacks such as Stunning Fist and Ki Strike can be performed with a weapon.

03-04-08, 06:28 PM It's an interesting concept and I like the angelic influence (though maybe this could be an alternate monk class?) I'm trying to figure out what problem you're aiming to solve, or what you hope this will bring to the table, other than the (very delicious) fluff.

I could see monks in long robes, wielding scythes like their master did.

The problem was two-fold. The first was that the east is a long way away in my game world and I'm tired of the lone fighting monk travelling dark age europe idea. It doesn't really make sense and is kinda played out.

The other problem was that the working class in my game world not only have weapons, but it is the law that they train with the bow each week. They are a northern barbarian race. There isn't any reason for someone to be super good with improvised weapons and empty hand fighting.

One of my players wanted to play a monk anyway, so I had to come up with something. His character is by the book, but we decided it was because he had a special liking for empty handed fighting and progressed differently than other monks.

Anyway, that is my story. (:
