| jagggar06-27-04, 06:00 PM | I was messing around, trying to find a pattern in the frequency of spell points handed out to the Sorcerer by the book. I didn't really find any. I might scan in my results later, but I'm too lazy to type them up at this point. In my messings, I attempted making a more logical progression, and would like some opinions on it. Level is obviously the level at which you get the number of Spell Points. SpellPoints is the number of spell points obviously. Increase shows how many SP were gained from the level previous to it, shown so you don't have to calcualate yourself. Level SpellPoints Increase 1 3 -- 2 4 1 3 6 2 4 10 4 5 16 6 6 25 9 7 36 11 8 49 13 9 64 15 10 81 17 11 100 19 12 121 21 13 144 23 14 169 25 15 196 27 16 225 29 17 256 31 18 279 23 19 302 23 20 325 23 Yes, one could cast 19 9th level spells, but realized that that is one less than a 20th level Psion could manifest. This make gives the Sorcerer just a tad bit more SP than needed so that he could match a standard wizard spell for spell. This was not made to balance with the other spell point classes as given in UA; those would be reworked (though I prefer only spontaneous casters to use the SP system myself). Comments? Rants? Flames? |

A sorcerer at 20 th level gets: 6x17=102 6x15=90 6x13=78 6x11=66 6x9=54 6x7=42 6x5=30 6x3=18 6x1=6 Total = 496 power points. Is that the right amount? If not my theory is wrong. |
| jagggar06-28-04, 01:15 PM | Even though that would be the correct calcuation, that's not what they did for the book. A 20th level sorcerer by the book gets 249 SP. Paladin and ranger don't get shorted anything if you calcualte it, but the other casting classes all get shorted, but none so much as the Sorcerer. |
| Ertai Planeswalker06-30-04, 01:03 PM | Well i can imagine they give the bigger spellcasters (Those with a progression up to 6th or 9th level spells) a little less than normal because of the added flexibility. I thinkt that the spell point equivalent of one spell per day per spell level less is a nice trade-off for the flexibility the spell point system grants. But besides that, it should be linear. Time for rule 0 i guess. |
| jagggar07-08-04, 10:29 AM | I probably wouldn't complain so much, except that even when comparing the sorcerer and wizard, there's a huge gap in the percentage that the power was cut. The sorcerer was by far the most nerfed when the sorcerer is supposed to be considered the spontaneous caster of the group even before spell points. |
