Is there a better way to get rid of level adjustments then the way in unearthed arcana? :confused:

Yeah. Don't require Class Level (3 x LA) for your first LA buyoff. Let them buy it down 1 every 3 Class Levels. Flat-out.

You could applie a constant expirence penalty, been doing some thinking along this line myself. When starting off at level 1, a adjustment slows someone progression early on to much, and at higher levels it just puts you to far behind if more then LA 1.

A moderate Expirence penalty will keep someone moderatly behind the group without slowing them to much in terms of levels (since they should normally be only 1 level lower then a normal character)

Either a constant 10% penalty per level ajustment or one that goes:

LA - XP Penelty%
1 - 15%
2 - 25%
3 - 35%
4 - 40%
Then aditional 5% each level beyond LA 4
