As far as I have been able to comprehend there is a difference between Unearthed Arcana and almost everything else in this matter. Reason I ask is that I try to build something completely by the official book, for the heck of it. And when I am on it, do you lose affiliation bonus-feats if you lose the rank you originally obtained the feat at? For example, can you suddenly lose Improved critical (dwarven waraxe) by loosing affinity? It makes little sense, but I want the RAW rules. |

However, rules from supplemental books (anything other than PHB, DMG and MM) are never assumed to to be part of any D&D game. Even some core rules are officially optional. |

I use that as an example sisnce it is in the PHBII :) And I have always thought Anearthed Arcana to be less "official" than other books in that its supposedly just suggestions and home rules, as opposed to official rules. If I am correct may be a different matter though. |

A collection of optional and variant rules which aren't intended to be mixed indiscriminately with the existing game. |
