Armor as Damage Reduction-Magic Items and Spells [Archive] - Wizards Community

Ok, I am starting to lay groundwork for a possible campaign (a strange fusion of D&D and Arcana Unearthed, with various Unearthed Arcana variants thrown in) and I plan on using the Armor as Damage Reduction (and Class Defense Bonus) rules from UA in some version or other (probably pretty much ignoring Armor Bonuses and most Natural Armor bonuses and have those things that grant them mostly just give DR).

I am just having trouble deciding how I want to handle, and price, magic items and spells that grant armor or natural armor bonuses (amulets of natural armor, bracers of armor, various spells).

With the items, my impulse is to simply have them give DR instead of an AC bonus, but I'm just not sure how or if I should change their prices when doing so, and what sort of increments I should use (magic items have never been my best area).

And much the same with spells. Take a Barkskin spell for example, I'd want it to give DR, I'm just not sure how much.

So basically I'm just looking for suggestions and opinions on these topics.
