I think I remember the 3rd ed. splatbook for druids having something similar to the Aspect of Nature variant in Unearthed Arcana. I was thinking about using a variant on this variant for my own campaign to replace wildshape. I was thinking of having a 1st level cosmetic aspect, a progressive aspect, a prowess aspect, and also scaling aspects.

The cosmetic aspects of nature would appear every 2 or 3 levels, thing like feathers for hair, light fur, cat eyes, etc.

The progressive aspect would be an aspect chosen at 1st level that grows with the druid like elephantine skin (+1 natural armor at 1st level and every three levels after up to +7 at 19th level), cheetah's speed (+5 base speed at 1st level and every three levels up to +35 at 19th level), etc.

The prowess aspect is simply an ability score increase at every fourth level.

The scaled aspects would be level appropriate like natural attacks at 3rd level up to wings at high levels (16-20th).

Any help is appreciated. I would love input or other aspects that you could think of, perhaps help with scaling the ability as appropriate for replacing wildshape.

This is how I see it breaking down:

At 1st level you select your progressive aspect (be it cheetah's speed, elephantine hide, unicorn horn, etc.) which comes with it's own cosmetic aspect (light fur, grayed skin, ivory bump on forehead etc.).

At third level and every third level after you select another cosmetic aspect.

At fourth level you get your first prowess aspect boost to an ability score of your choice, and every fourth level thereafter. You also get your first progressive aspect increase.

At 5th level you get your first scaled aspect for things like cat eyes (low-light vision), tusks (gore attack), claws, etc.

At 10th level you get your next scaled aspect for things like wolf's snout (scent), feline tail (+8 racial bonus on Balance checks), crocodile tail (+8 racial bonus on swim checks), etc.

At 15th level you get your next scaled aspect for things like ???

And finally at 20th level you can get scaled aspects like wings, breath weapons, etc. Also at 20th level you become a native outsider.

Have you seen the Geomancer PrC in Complete Divine? It includes a set of evolutionary "drifting" almost exactly like what you have. Might want to take a look at it.
