Hey everbody; I was wondering what people through of the druid/monk gesalt combination. While not the most powerful, its usually considered a pretty solid build that can hold its own even in a high-powered gesalt game.

Anyways I was looking through the variant rules and saw the different options for a druid and ranger and was wondering what people though of the Variant Druid/Variant Ranger options- here's how I see them:

You gain the monk's AC bonus, the monk's fast movement as well as an additional Barbarian's fast movement, and track and swift tracker.

You lose the combat styles and the ability to wildshape into anything other than small and medium.

This causes you a bit of grief, but allows easy multiclassing into other prestige classes (Master of Many Forms) with less penalty and the druid aspect focuses heavily on their spellcasting. Whats your thoughts?

there are a lot of varient rangers and varient druids, which do you mean?

In the book unearthed arcana alone there are 2 diffrent druid varients, and 3 ranger ones.

a normal gestalt monk druid is probably a pretty great gestalt combo though.

of course, your Alignment is now LN (monk must be lawful, druid must have a nuetral component to alignment), unless your DM rules otherwise for one/both of those classes.

Now, if you are able to pull of a Good alignment, and think you can play Exalted-ly good, might I reccomend the Book of Exalted Deeds and the Vow of Poverty?

I'm refering to the only ones without names called "variant" options (these (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#ranger) ones (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druid)); typically if it has a name its referred to as it.

Ok, thanks, i wasn't even sure which book you ment. You never really said.

I personally wouldn't do this because wildshape is hugely powerful and cool once you get large and above.

In a gestalt game your character might have a hard time filling 2 roles which is one of my goals in gestalt. If thats not your reason for gestalting, then go for it. You will have a pretty powerful spellcaster.

If you have Tome of Battle, then gestalt swordsage//druid is a significantly better choice...but then gestalt any spellcaster with ToB is a good choice.

Even better than lv30 arcane casting level, lv20 divine casting, full sublime casting, and full sorcerer casting (spells) all at level 20? With all spells determined by your Charisma modifier? And your Charisma bonus to normal AC, Will Saves, and deflection AC?

(Mind you I haven't read through Tome of Battle, so I might be wrong, but I would definitely submit my build kicks ass.)
