Bloodline level increases Character level? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-17-04, 01:37 PM First off: this has probably been asked loads of times, but the search function is currently disabled so I had to post it to get an answer.

I was wondering wether taking a Bloodline level increases your character level. I know it says it doesn't increase it like it normally would (no hit points, skill points, etc.) But does your (effective) character level rise by one of you take a bloodline level?

08-17-04, 05:20 PM Yes, it does. That is why it increases your maximim skill ranks.

"Class levels of 'Bloodline' do not increase a character's character level the way a normal class does..."

So aparently it doesn't.

08-20-04, 01:19 PM I think bloodline levels do nothing except allow for a higher max ranks in skills.

Its pretty much to make up for the LA of many templates.

08-20-04, 02:09 PM It also counts as an effective character level for determining how much money you start with when creating a character beyond first level, and what sort of monsters you should be (theoretically) coming up against.

It also increases your effective level for determining where you are on the bloodline chart, so that a major gold dragon bloodline with 7 hit dice and 3 "levels" in bloodline would have waterbreathing.

Also on page 19:

"It counts as a normal class level (with no class skills) for the purpose of determining max skill ranks."

"Include the characters bloodline level when calculating any character abilities based on his class levels (such as caster level for spellcasting characters or save DCs for characters with special abilities whose DCs are based on class levels)."

On page 20 it then gives an example at the top of the page.
