| Master_Vega08-16-07, 02:22 PM | After reading a thread on the "What's a DM to do?" board (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=906658), I came up with what I think is an interesting idea to prevent metagaming. I don't know if it's covered in the books, though. Here goes: When readying an action in plain sight, you may choose to make a bluff check to hide your intent until the last second (let's go with a problem noted in the aforementioned thread and say you're setting against a charge). Your opponents roll Sense Motive to see if they still catch on. If you win the opposed check, the guy charging you doesn't realize you're going to impale him 'soon as he comes into range. If he wins, he gets to change his mind, if he wants to. The other situation mentioned in the thread referenced above was a wizard taking cover the moment the archer readied an action to shoot him in the middle of his spell. This would follow the same rules as the last situation; the archer rolls bluff, the wizard rolls sense motive and if the archer wins the wizard doesn't see him aiming. If the wizard wins he sees the archer aiming and can go ahead and take cover. Alternatively, you could use slight of hand/hide checks vs. spot checks. This house rule is really only necessary if you have a compulsive metagamer in the group, and he's getting on everyone's nerves. So, what do you guys think? |

In fact, it's pretty similar to a couple of the ones in the book: Conceal Spellcasting lets you make a Sleight of Hand check to hide the fact that you're casting a spell, for instance. |
