Aimed Shot
Base AC is increased to 15 and dexterity bonus is doubled^1 when calling a shot. All other modifiers are calculated too like size and deflection.

Area Specific Damage
Arm: -1 attack & damage; halve HP damage
Leg: -5ft speed, -1 reflex saves; halve HP damage
Head: Concentration check DC 10+damage vs stun for 1 round; HP damage x1.5^2

Helmets
Helmet stats are determined by taking stats of armor equivalent
Armor check penalty applied to Listen & Spot checks
1 round per heaviness of armor type to equip helmet (light=1 medium=2 heavy=3). Double if nonproficient
Helmet costs are 10% of armor equivalent if purchased separately. Helmets are normally included in purchase of suit of armor

1: +1 dex AC for every -2 in the case of negative dexterity bonus.
2: Calculated before increased damage such as sneak attack.

I hope this isn't a double post. There's no Search option and I scanned for similar topics but that doesn't mean they don't exist
I made these rules to be balanced, not so much for realism. The fact that they exist at all adds realism and risks imbalance enough.
Maybe I'll write this well and submit it to Regdar's Repository if it gets enough positive feedback.
Comments & criticism appreciated :)

Hmmm...I been looking to add this to my games. I am an old fan of Cyberpunk 2013 and 2020 which has this mechanic. I'll play test it and let you know.

Torn Asunder d20 book has rules for called shots.

Not sure if they are any good though....

Alos has rules for an arm stump attatchment including a grappling hook, very cool :)

I wrote a called shot system which past the editors of the Campaign Builder's Guild's "Campaign Builder's Guide". It's in the second issue, which you can find at http://www.thecbg.org/downloads/CBGuideOct06.pdf.

It utilizes mechanics that already exist within the game, so it should be pretty easy to integrate.

Oh, and my helmet idea was pretty simple. All helms grant a bonus to AC vs. critical confirmation checks, and a penalty to listen and spot checks.

Leather Cap: +1 AC, -1 listen and spot
Chain Hood: +2 AC, -2 listen and spot
Plate Helm: +3 AC, -3 listen and spot
Full Helm: +4 AC, -4 listen and spot

My players like them.
