are spell points balanced when used in conjunction with typical d&d's magic system.

What i mean is if im playing a druid and theirs a wizard that doesn’t want to use the new Spell Point system could he continue to use the classic d&d spell slot system while my character uses the spell point system. Even with the suggested 30% increase in spell points? link

Something you can try that is somehwhat of a 'balance' between spell points and spell slots is an alternate I use:

Memorization: No change. You still can only memorize a certain number of spells. The difference is, that the memorized spells are not 'locked in' to your spells slots. If you have three third level spell slots, you can cast any of your memorized third level spells once, twice or three times. Or any combination thereof.

Spell slot substitution: You can use a higher level spell slot to cast a lower level spell. For example, you can use a 4th level spell slot to cast a 1st through 3rd level spell. The 'extra energy' is lost, unless you happen to have an open spell slot available. For example, a wizard with this variant is out of 1st level spell slots, he uses up a 2nd level spell slot to cast magic missile. The remaining energy left over from the 2nd level spell slot is retained. Basically re-charging a 1st level spell slot.

Improved spell slot substitution: You can add lower level spell slots together to cast a higher level spell (you can not exceed your normal spell level). For example, a 15th level wizard has used up all his 8th level spell slots and needs to cast an 8th level spell. He could spend two 4th level spell slots, a 5th and 3rd level spell slot, or any combination up to 8 to cast the spell. (You can implement this as a special ability after 10th level or as a feat. Either way works).

Metamagic: No prior preparation necessary. Simply use a higher level spell slot determined by however much the original spell was modified. For example an empowered fireball would use a 5th level spell slot. Whether or not it is a full round action is up to debate.

Fundamentally it works the same way the spell point system but takes the majority of the math involved out of it. It's much simpler and quicker. That and is has less of an issue with 'abuse' than the spell point system. Wizards come out ahead with more spells, Sorcerers come out ahead with more spells per day.

Sounds cool. Although, I really like magic Points however. Reminds me of dragon quest. Its more of a late 80's thing. I could see how someone could dislike spell points if they played d&d in the 70's, however magic points I think would really give me nostalgia and bring back memories of all those amazing snes games. I think spell points really make it feel as if the spell is more apart of the character. I never liked how a slot system worked with wizards. So they have to memorize each spell they want to use a day? Sure I will buy that. However using up a spell per a day they suddenly forget the spell? Doesn’t seem very intelligent to me.

No, sorcerers can use their abilities a LOT more now compared to anyone else.

Take a look at arcana unearthed for the spell point system.

Also that post that is linked to in the OP has more.

yeah. sourcers are more balanced with the chart in the link i beleave. I did the math and he gave Sorcerer more then 30% more mp MAGIC POINTS NOT MIND POINTS hehehe :) i think its balanced that way. But was wondering if this system is ok if one charicter uses spell points and the other charicter uses slots. what about players using this and dm using slots? the dm knows what tricks you have so he doesent need lots of versitility.

Actually, I belive you mean Unearthed Arcana (a WotC product). Arcana Unearthed (Put out by Monte Cook's Malhavoc Press Label), while having many nice additions to a d20 magic system, does not feature a spellpoint system.
