| Dnjscott01-24-06, 02:38 PM | Two bloodlines interested me... First, one of the draconic bloodlines granted breathe water at will, which would come in handy for a long-threatened Stormrack-based game. Second, the Titan bloodline with levitate and the fairly unique(as in, Epic Feat) Wield Oversized Weapon seemed at least reasonably cool. But... three levels? Owwwww. Anyone have any luck with these? |
| Darkmatter2001-24-06, 03:38 PM | Game I did once I just gave everyone a major bloodline for free. We had just got the book and everyone wanted to try it out. It was just the abilities not the caster level increase etc. Gave a nice touch to when you levelled up and wasn't exactly game breaking :) the abilities aren't really that strong. |
| Dnjscott01-24-06, 04:41 PM | LOL. Yeah, I could see them being worth it at free... but three levels..! I really like the idea, too. Bummer. |
| Darkmatter2001-24-06, 05:11 PM | Yeah its unfortunate but they're not actually worth the three levels. Since you have unearthed arcana you might may a look at the level adjustment buyoff. This is just a house rule that I can across once. Basiclly the buy off level adjustment varient comes from unearthed arcana. By not giving the caster level increases etc and just giving the abilites you could kinda treat it as a level adjustment. The rules in unearthed arcana for buying of level adjustments gave us the idea that follows(this is a total house rule by the way so if you're not DMing you have to ask them): Upon reaching the bloodline level, instead of gaing a caster level etc increase, you immediately drop back down in experience to what was needed for your last level. (i.e. I think one of the bloodlines occurs at level 3, needing 6000xp, so you drop down to 3000xp what you needed for level 2) Since your still only level 2 you gain experience faster then your party (who are level 3) and level up faster and will "eventually" catch up with them. So you never gain bloodline levels just rather slow down how quickly you reach the next level every so often. |
| Temmogen01-24-06, 07:04 PM | Have a look at this thread... http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=221172 The originator of the post sparked a huge positive response, from me included and it actually made Bloodlines worth while. I use the Cultural Templates in my game and it works. Apply some restraint when using these and other add-ons like the VoP, it can tend to overpower characters. There was another suggestion I saw at one time, but I cant remember what thread it was in. The general idea was to break down the Barbarian base class into a bloodline format. Basically eliminating the Barbarian as a class and leaving it as an option for other classes, where you gained the barbarians class features at certain levels. |
| Dnjscott01-24-06, 07:09 PM | Hey, thanks! I'll scope that and maybe show the DM... |
