If there is a player that is fighter8/rogue8, how do you figure the challange rating?

CR Should stay about the same. The AC doesn't go up neither does the ability to hit. The character created from the mix of Fighter/Rogue is a Rogue with a Good BAB and Fort save plus bonus Feats. Its not a fighter with sneak attack and Skills because if he put on heavy armor he wouldn't be Stealthy and he wouldn't get Sneak attack then. Send creatures you would normally send at a rogue or a fighter. High AC mixing in Critical immune creatures. If you up the CR the creatures would have higher ACs then even the Fighter could hit if you over did it.

Sneak Attack does not rely on being light armored. And Rogues have more skills than just Stealth ones, lots of personality skills as well as the useful UMD.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.

Your party is gestalt and you need to figure out an appropriate CR? In UA, they reccomend party level +2 or +1 for opponents that will use save-or-die tactics.

You're pitting your (regularly-leveled) party against a gestalt NPC? The NPC's CR is probably his level +2

You have one character that is gestalt in a party with regularly-leveled characters? Probably a bad idea, but if you give him a +2 Level Adjustment, things might work out alright.

I suspect the idea is to find out what CR of monsters is appropriate for a gestalt group.

In other words, for example, if you have four gestalt characters at level 14, what dragon is appropriate to throw against them?

The CR system is a little simplified to begin with- throw in gestalt and you really have a headache trying to figure out appropriate CR.

A fighter rogue would highly depend on his choice of feats- if he's used all his fighter feats to max out TWF and found some way to pick up pounce, his CR is going to be significantly different from one who picked up toughness and weapons focus.

best way to get CR for a gestalt character is to just estimate, and experiment.

I ran a gestalt campaign for some time, and I am about to start it back up in a few weeks. I have not notived that much of a power increse with the players. I would recommending treating the party as 1-2 level higher than they actually are. If it is either too bloody or too easy change things up.

To be honest, I think that increasing the CR is a mistake - you still have the problem of offense escalation trumping defense, since while the PCs have more powers, they don't have more powerful powers.

A better approach is to keep the CR the same, but expect the party to be able to handle a greater number of encounters before needing to rest. They can probably manage 5 or 6 rather than 4 if you go by the book.

If you really want to beef up the encounters then do it by adding more creatures of similar CR rather than higher CR creatures: Instead of two APL-2 creatures, give them 3.

You can always throw gestalt NPCs at them.
