I see a few threads pertaining to mixing Gestalts with non-Gestalts within a party, but since the Search function here is either broken or doesn't like me, I can't see if my following question has been answered elsewhere...

Does anyone have ideas on how to calculate the Challenge Rating of a Gestalt enemy?

In my campaign world I use both gestalts and non-gestalts depending upon the number of players and the uniqueness of the character/NPC. For instance, if I'm running a solo or 2-player adventure, I'll rule that the characters are exceptional heroes (perhaps blessed by the gods) and are thus a Gestalt. On the flip-side, right now I'm running a game for 5 players and since the extra fire-power isn't needed, everyone is a non-Gestalt.

The problem is, many of the *major* villians and heroes in the world are of the divinely-blessed Gestalt variety — eventually the non-Gestalt PCs are going to encounter them. Thus, I could use some help figuring out the best way to calculate the Gestalts' CRs.

Counting the Gestalt as two characters of the same level doesn't really work since they are not two characters and don't have two HP pools, two full sets of actions, can't team up and flank a person, etc. So, either I need to count the Gestalt levels as a 2nd character of a fractional level OR apply some sort of level adjustment to just a single creature entry.

Does anyone have any play-tested advice for me?

+2 CR if the enemy is Gestalted and the PC's aren't, -2 CR if the PC's are and the enemy isn't.
