| Rowan_Whispercloak10-24-05, 05:58 AM | I've noticed that the other hybred classes (Paladin and Hexblade) each use the 3 lower than a member of the spellcasting class feature. Example Paladin turn undead as if 3 levels lower and the Hexblades familiar is treated as if her were a Sorercer 3 levels lower. SO why not set the Ranger's animal companion at the same rate. |
| Master of the Wild10-24-05, 06:46 AM | So, instead of the following list: Rgrlevel/EquivalentDruidLevelForAnimalCompanion 4/2 5/2 6/3 ... 16/8 18/9 20/10 you'd have 4/1 5/2 6/3 .. 16/13 18/15 20/17 Hmz... Take Animal Bond (I think that's the featname) and his animal companion is as good as the druid. Now add the proficiency, bonus feats, abilities, high skill points and full bab and which is better: the druid of the ranger? Okay, perhaps the druid is still better, but at least the ranger isn't that far behind. And he hits harder in melee - at least bab-wise, which also means he has more attacks (or at least earlier). I don't know... It sort of makes up for the downgrade that the ranger got from 3.0 to 3.5. I won't mind. |
| Lord Schpungus10-24-05, 11:40 PM | As it is, the ranger's companion is worthless past the level you get him at. The ranger's going to want his companion to help in battle, and with 1/2 druid level, it's one hit-new companion. Sooner or later they're going to stop coming, because they don't want to die. 3 may be too little, but 10 is too much. 5 maybe? |
