What about spells with a duration (and thus a set amount of time until the spell is normally available)? I can't try and look myself, as a friend has my book currently. |

I'll look into it... from what I can tell...if you metamagic a spell into a new spell level, it's treated as a separate spell in that instant. So a magic spell metamagiced onto multiple spell levels can be used multiple times in that respect...scary... but handy for sorcerers with Heighten magic, lol. Obviously there's some abuse risk to it, but...well, we'll see how it goes. |

Generally speaking, your higher-level spells are better spells. The only time that's not true is in certain tactical scenarios. For example, if there's a field of goblins charging your way, that Fireball is better than your 4th or 5th level (can't remember which) Drown spell. On the flipside, your Drown spell is probably better than Fireball or even Chain Lightning if you're just fighting one or two BBEGs, especially if they look like they might be frail casters or rogues with a poor Fort save. In either case, a sorceror can spam the lower-level spell regardless of whether or not you're using the Recharge Magic variant. Remember, a sorceror can already use higher-level spell slots to cast lower-level spells, regardless of whether or not he's got the Heighten metamagic feat. The Heighten feat makes your high-level spell wasting more worthwhile by increasing save DCs, but isn't necessary to use higher-level slots or recharge times. |
