| Stev Beren08-11-05, 11:07 AM | I want, to fill a very specific role in a campaign world, something much like a force adept from the Star Wars game: The question is, do you think it would be balanced in a D&D universe? ALso am, by the by, importing the wound/vitality rules. |
| Xeviat-DM08-11-05, 07:34 PM | I'm slightly familiar with the starwars rules, but I'm not sure what role you're wanting this to fill. I'm assuming you're wanting a spellcaster that has the potential to cast all the spells? Take the NPC Adept, we'll switch it to arcane and give it a spell-book. Then, let them scribe any spell they get a scroll of into their book, and change the skill to scribe spells from spellcraft to Knowledge (arcane, nature, or religion, depending on if it is wizard, druid, or cleric in nature). Give them some bonus feats to balance out their lower spell total. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for? |
| Klidor08-12-05, 10:25 PM | The way that the force works in Star Wars is very similar to psionics in D&D. The force skills that they get are not restricted in how often they can be used per day. It could be a little unbalanced to move over without some sort of limitation like a limited point cost to power a skill. You could just have the force skills be class abilities that the new class can select from and use a certain number of times a day. You may just want to take a look at the Expanded Psionics Book for other ideas. |
| Xeviat-DM08-13-05, 03:01 AM | I'll give a nod to psionics as well. It will be very tough to impliment a starwars style skill system (remember, they use HP for MP in that system). |
| Stev Beren08-13-05, 06:53 AM | It needs to not be magic and the Psionics style just doesn't . ._fit_ for some reason> One of those things which is hard to explain. Part ot the deal is that their abilities come from something(Unknown to most) completely different from magic. THe force skills and system seemed to fit that bill to me. It doesn't have to be _extremely_ balanced, as it is passingly unlikely a PC will ever play one - not because they would be forbidden, as such, but because they are members of a society that would make them untenable adventurers. |

Your best bet then would be to attempt to use the Force Adept and Force Skills as written, simply give the Force Adept light armor proficiency and remove their class based AC bonus. Remember, that using the "Force" costs HP. You could also read the following thread ( http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=470229 ), as it may help you to change your mind about Psionics; part of many people's issue with the style of Psionics is that the current names they use make it feel too scientific and not fantastic enough. Then again, atributing the Force to microscopic bacteria in Force users' blood goes a long way to making Starwars feel to scientific and not fantastic enough as well ... :P Ahah! Zinged you Lucas! |
