Ok, I'm hoping that I may be able to start running a game some time soon. It will be a strange mix of D&D and Arcana Unearthed/Evolved, with various stuff from Unearthed Arcana thrown in, including Armor as DR, and Class Defense bonus

However, I am thinking of making some changes to those last two...making Class Defense indepedent of armor profciency, and slightly increasing the DR from armor, as well as making it so that wearing Heavy armor reduces your Class Defense bonus. My goal is to have certain classes such as the Monk be extremely good at avoiding blows, but due to having no armor and thus no DR, take more damage when they are hit, and likewise some classes (such as Warmain) are slightly less good (but still good due to heavy combat training) at getting out of the way, but due to their armor, they arent hurt as much when they are hit.
I havent decided yet though if I want wearing heavy armor to bump you back one column on class defense, or two. So I'd like feedback on that, and also the list I am about to post which includes which Class Defense column that would be used by each of the base classes I plan to include, along with the DR granted by various armors.

Column A: Magister, Runethane, Druid,

Column B: Witch, Bard

Column C: Mageblade, Akashic, All Other Totems

Column D: Fighter, Monk, Unfettered, Warmain, Champion, Hawk Totem, Snake Totem, Ranger, Rogue

Chain Shirt: 3 DR

Hide: 2 DR

Scale Mail: 3 DR

Breastplate: 3 DR

Splint/Banded Mail: 3 DR

What do you think?

I completly divorced the DR from the class Defense bonus. I use the listed armor bonus as the DR - actually, as damage conversion, and it worked fine. So I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work for you.

Maybe you'd like to give Iron Heroes (another book published by Malhavoc Press) a good look. It has pretty much everything you're trying to include in your game and more (like the amazing stunts and challenges mechanics).

I strongly recomend it; it is a great book!

'Hope I helped...
